Abstract: Evolution in the surgical treatment of intracranial aneurysms is driven by the need to refine and innovate. From an early application of the Hunterian carotid ligation to modern-day sophisticated aneurysm clip designs, progress has been made through dedication and technical maturation of cerebrovascular neurosurgeons to overcome challenges in their practices. The global expansion of endovascular services has challenged the existence of aneurysm surgery, changing the complexity of the aneurysm case mix and volume that are referred for surgical repair. Concepts of how to best treat intracranial aneurysms have evolved over generations and will continue to do so with further technological innovations. As with the evolution of any type of surgery, innovations frequently arise from the criticism of current techniques.

Abstract: The origin of positive-gate-bias-stress (PGBS)-induced instability and the effects of fluorine treatment on the instability of an InGaZnO thin-film transistor (TFT) are investigated. The fluorine treatments on the dielectric/InGaZnO interface and InGaZnO back channel of the device can effectively modulate their electrical properties. By characterizing the TFTs with various fluorine treatments, it is found that the back channel rather than the dielectric/InGaZnO interface dominates the PGBS instability. Electrons induced by moisture absorption near the back channel migrate from the back channel to the interface under PGBS at room temperature, thus resulting in a threshold-voltage decrease. Moreover, the fluorine treatment on the back channel effectively suppresses the PGBS instability due to reduced moisture absorption caused by the fluorine passivation.

Abstract: Magnetic nanostructures have potential applications in ultrahigh-density magnetic storage. In this paper, the dynamics of the dual magnetic vortices in elliptical Permalloy nanodisk are investigated using micromagnetic modeling. Under the stimulation of the short-axis ( $y$ -axis) Gaussian field pulse and long-axis ( $x$ -axis) constant field, the equilibrium positions of dual-vortex cores can be driven away from the initial positions. The displacement in the $y$ -direction is proportional to the magnitude of the $x$ -axis constant field. The displacement in the $x$ -direction exhibit periodic reliance on the pulsewidth of the $y$ -axis Gaussian field pulse. The threshold value of pulse strength for dual-vortex motion increases with the magnitude of the $x$ -axis constant field. The mechanism of polarity and chirality switching in dual-vortex cores are studied through analyzing the trajectories of vortex cores in the annihilation and nucleation processes. The switching of polarity exhibits an oscillatory dependence on the pulsewidth and strength. The minimum pulse strength required for chirality switching is 120 mT, while the corresponding pulsewidth is influenced by the $x$ -axis constant field. This paper provides insights on the magnetization dynamics of nanostructures containing dual vortices subject to external excitations.

Abstract: Pentacene organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) using La x Nb(1– x )O y as gate dielectric with ${x}= \mathsf {1}$ , 0.946, 0.850, and 0.648 have been fabricated on vacuum tape at a temperature of 200 °C. Among them, the OTFT with La0.850Nb0.150O y as gate dielectric has the highest carrier mobility of 4.63 cm $^{\mathsf {2}}\text{V}^{\mathsf {-1}}\text{s}^{\mathsf {-1}}$ , negligible hysteresis of −0.032 V, small subthreshold swing of 0.174 V/decade, and small threshold voltage of −1.90 V. AFM and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy reveal that Nb incorporation can alleviate the hygroscopicity of La oxide, resulting in a smoother dielectric surface. Pentacene grain size first increases with Nb content due to smoother dielectric surface, and then decreases due to Nb-induced traps acting as nucleation sites for the growth of pentacene grains on the dielectric surface. Therefore, there exists an optimal Nb content in La x Nb(1– x )O y that can result in the largest grain size and, hence, the highest carrier mobility.

Abstract: The current literature on adolescent problematic Internet use (PIU) does not provide an adequately comprehensive picture of the possible dynamics between different aspects of life in the shaping of PIU. Particularly, it is currently unknown how socioeconomic background could exert indirect influences. Adolescents from particular social strata who require assistance remain unidentified. Based on Problem Behavior Theory, a conceptual model with three layers, namely socioeconomic indicators, school-related psychosocial variables and pattern of Internet use, was formulated and tested with the survey data of 744 students from two Hong Kong secondary schools. Path analysis was conducted to yield an explanatory model of PIU. Findings suggested two different roles socioeconomic background plays. First, it potentially exerts influence as an antecedent through intermediary determinants, such as educational stress. Second, it potentially moderates the mechanism. In particular, it was found that parental education and family income significantly moderate the association between the amount of Internet use and severity of PIU. According to these findings, public health policies could be more focused on adolescents belonging to certain social strata who require additional assistance. Also, school policies and parenting strategies could be better informed with reference to the relevant psychosocial variables and pattern of Internet use.

Abstract: Problematic Internet use (PIU) in adolescents has been widely conceptualized as heavy Internet use that interferes with life. Although heavy use typically indicates severe PIU, their relationship is not one-to-one. Without interferences to life, mere heavy use does not constitute PIU. Accordingly, the association between them depends on how much disturbance to life is caused. While this might systematically differ by environmental factors, especially peer influences, no previous study was conducted to investigate such interaction. Hence, this study aims to test for the variation in this association in the presence of heavy Internet using peers. A cross-sectional self-administered survey on Internet use pattern was conducted with 723 Hong Kong secondary school students. Class average was used to measure peer normative use. A linear mixed model was constructed to test for interaction between the individual amount of Internet use and class normative use in relation to PIU. Abstract: Background: Objective assessment and quantification of the severity of cerebral vasospasm following aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage is not routinely utilized. We investigated the feasibility of angiographic perfusion imaging derived from digital subtraction angiography (DSA) following endovascular vasospasm treatment procedures. Methodology: Real-time blood flow analysis was performed using parametric color coding on pre- and postintervention DSA. Semiquantitative parenchymal perfusion parameters (arrival time [AT] of contrast, time to peak [TTP] opacification, and mean transit time [MTT] of contrast) were calculated across 3 vascular territories (anterior cerebral artery [ACA], middle cerebral artery [MCA], and lenticulostriate arteries) using standard 2-D angiographic perfusion software. The pre- and postintervention arterial vessel diameters were compared. Results: Twelve endovascular vasospasm treatments in 6 patients were performed. All patients received intra-arterial vasodilator therapy with either nimodipine, milrinone, or both. Following intra-arterial intervention, parenchymal flow analysis showed improvement in TTP and MTT across all vascular territories (p < 0.002) and improvement in AT in the ACA and MCA territories (p < 0.03). Improvement in parenchymal perfusion parameters was associated with improvement in vessel diameters in all territories following treatment (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Real-time parenchymal perfusion imaging during endovascular vasospasm treatment procedures is feasible and provides reliable semiquantitative measurement of angiographic treatment response.

Abstract: Grounded cognition accounts of semantic representation posit that brain regions traditionally linked to perception and action play a role in grounding the semantic content of words and sentences. Sensory-motor systems are thought to support partially abstract simulations through which conceptual content is grounded. However, which details of sensory-motor experience are included in, or excluded from these simulations, is not well understood. We investigated whether sensory-motor brain regions are differentially involved depending on the speed of actions described in a sentence. We addressed this issue by examining the neural signature of relatively fast (The old lady scurried across the road) and slow (The old lady strolled across the road) action sentences. The results showed that sentences that implied fast motion modulated activity within the right posterior superior temporal sulcus and the angular and middle occipital gyri, areas associated with biological motion and action perception. Sentences that implied slow motion resulted in greater signal within the right primary motor cortex and anterior inferior parietal lobule, areas associated with action execution and planning. These results suggest that the speed of described motion influences representational content and modulates the nature of conceptual grounding. Fast motion events are represented more visually whereas motor regions play a greater role in representing conceptual content associated with slow motion.

Abstract: BackgroundPrevious research has suggested a socioeconomic gradient of mental health in the face of potentially traumatic events. Nevertheless, few studies examined the intermediary mechanisms of this gradient. This study tested a hypothesised mediating effect of disruptions to daily routines (eg, eating/sleeping habits) between socioeconomic status (SES) and depression among participants and non-participants of the anti-extradition bill protests in summer 2019 in Hong Kong.MethodsA territory-wide telephone survey was conducted during the movement in the first 3 weeks of July 2019 to collect self-report data from 1112 Cantonese-speaking Hong Kong citizens. Stratified by participation in the anti-extradition bill protests, logistic regression was conducted to examine the inverse relationship between SES and depression. Subsequently, path analysis was conducted to test the hypothesised indirect effect through daily routine disruptions.ResultsIn total, 581 (52.2%) respondents participated in the anti-extradition bill protests. Logistic regression showed that higher educational attainment was protective of depression among both participants and non-participants, while the protective effect of household income level HK$40 000–HK$79 999 (compared with ConclusionsDaily routine disruptions partially explain the association between low SES and depression, especially among participants of the anti-extradition bill protests. To improve population mental health, such disruptions should be mitigated.

Abstract: This paper shows that signals from the offshore Hong Kong, China spot market for the currency of the People’s Republic of China (PRC), the renminbi (listed as CNH), directly affect the volatility of share prices of PRC banks and the overall risks to banking stability in the country. This is especially so amid heightened uncertainty about global trade of the PRC. Thus, CNH market volatility is a leading indicator of onshore PRC banking sector volatility. The results suggest that further offshore exchange market movements arising out of news such as increasing trade friction with the United States will generate greater volatility in the PRC’s banking sector. Far from being a shock absorber for the financial system of the PRC, the CNH market appears to be a shock transmitter of risk from offshore economic policy uncertainty to the PRC’s banking system.

Abstract: Antibiotic resistant infections are projected to cause over 10 million deaths by 2050, yet the development of new antibiotics has slowed. This points to an urgent need for methodologies for the rapid development of antibiotics against emerging drug resistant pathogens. We report on a generalizable combined computational and synthetic approach, called antibody-recruiting protein-catalyzed capture agents (AR-PCCs), to address this challenge. We applied the combinatorial protein catalyzed capture agent (PCC) technology to identify macrocyclic peptide ligands against highly conserved surface protein epitopes of carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae, an opportunistic Gram-negative pathogen with drug resistant strains. Multi-omic data combined with bioinformatic analyses identified epitopes of the highly expressed MrkA surface protein of K. pneumoniae for targeting in PCC screens. The top-performing ligand exhibited high-affinity (EC50 ∼50 nM) to full-length MrkA, and selectively bound to MrkA-expressing K. pneumoniae, but not to other pathogenic bacterial species. AR-PCCs that bear a hapten moiety promoted antibody recruitment to K. pneumoniae, leading to enhanced phagocytosis and phagocytic killing by macrophages. The rapid development of this highly targeted antibiotic implies that the integrated computational and synthetic toolkit described here can be used for the accelerated production of antibiotics against drug resistant bacteria., Antibody-recruiting protein-catalyzed capture agent (AR-PCCs) are a new class of all-synthetic and highly targeted antibiotics that recruit endogenous immune responses to eliminate drug-resistant microbes.

Abstract: Phishing emails constitute a major public health problem, linked to negative health outcomes due to fraud and exploitation. Because of their sheer volume and because phishing emails are designed to deceive, purely technological solutions such as filters only go so far, leaving human judgment as the last line of defense against phishing. However, in part because it is difficult to phish people under controlled laboratory conditions, little is known about the cognitive and neural mechanisms underlying phishing susceptibility. There is therefore a critical need to develop an ecologically valid measure of phishing susceptibility that can be used in the lab to test cognitive models of phishing detection. In this work, we present such a task: PEST, the Phishing Email Suspicion Test, in which participants rate a series of phishing and non-phishing emails according to their level of suspicion. By comparing suspicion scores for each email to its real-world efficacy (assessed in a field experiment in an independent group of participants), we find support for the ecological validity of PEST in that phishing emails that were more effective in the real world were more effective at deceiving people in the lab. By modeling behavior in PEST, we find evidence that the suspicion level of emails is assessed using a comparison process in which the current email is compared with previously encountered emails to determine its suspicion level. Together our task and model provide a framework for studying the cognitive neuroscience of email phishing detection in the lab.

Abstract: In this work, we have shown that betagallium oxide (Ga2O3) thin films of differing thickness could be obtained by physical vapor deposition method, employing proper annealing conditions. These enable us to compare the variation of optical properties like transparency, band gap in these phases. Apart from these, our analysis of transmittance spectra of beta-Ga2O3 indicated the reduction of structural disorders (amorphous to crystalline) with increase in annealing temperature. The calculated band gap based on Density Functional Theory (DFT) for bulk beta-Ga2O3 thin films ~ 4.9 eV (direct) at room temperature is in excellent agreement with our experimentally measured values. This work will serve as design guidance for the new Ga2O3 based thin film electronics.

Abstract: ObjectivesThis is a prospective study evaluating NEPA in patients with breast cancer (the NEPA group), who received (neo)adjuvant AC chemotherapy (consisting of doxorubicin 60 mg/m2 and cyclophosphamide 600 mg/m2). The primary objectives were to assess the efficacy and safety of NEPA in controlling chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV). The secondary objectives were to compare CINV between the NEPA group and historical controls (the APR group) who received aprepitant in an earlier prospective randomised study.Patients and methods60 patients participated in the NEPA group; 62 were in the APR group. Eligibility criteria of both groups were similar, that is, Chinese patients with breast cancer who were treated with (neo)adjuvant AC. NEPA group received NEPA and dexamethasone; APR group received aprepitant, ondansetron and dexamethasone. Individuals filled in self-reported diary, visual analogue scale for nausea and Functional Living Index-Emesis questionnaire.ResultsWithin the NEPA group, 70.0%, 85.7% and 60.0%, respectively reported complete response in the acute, delayed and overall phases in cycle 1 AC. When compared with the historical APR group during cycle 1 AC, NEPA group achieved significantly higher rates of complete response, complete protection, total control, ‘no significant nausea’ and ‘no nausea’ in the delayed phase; similar findings were noted in the overall phase with significantly better quality of life. Superior efficacy of NEPA was maintained over multiple cycles. Both antiemetic regimens were well tolerated.ConclusionIn this study on Chinese patients with breast cancer who were uniformly receiving AC, NEPA was effective in controlling CINV.Trial registration numberNCT03386617.

Abstract: We report the results of a search for the decay $B^0 \to X(3872)(\to J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-) \gamma$. The analysis is performed on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $711\,{\rm fb}^{-1}$ and containing $772 \times 10^6 B\bar{B}$ pairs, collected with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^+ e^-$ collider running at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance energy. We find no evidence for a signal and place an upper limit of $\mathcal{B}(B^0 \to X(3872)\gamma)\times \mathcal{B}(X(3872) \to J/\psi \pi^+ \pi^-) < 5.1 \times 10^{-7}$ at 90% confidence level.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the branching fraction and final-state asymmetry for the $\bar{B}^{0}\to K^{0}_{S}K^{\mp}\pi^{\pm}$ decays. The analysis is based on a data sample of 711 $\rm{fb}^{-1}$ collected at the $\Upsilon(4S)$ resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider. We obtain a branching fraction of $(3.60\pm0.33\pm0.15)\times10^{-6}$ and a final-state asymmetry of $(-8.5\pm8.9\pm0.2)\%$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Hints of peaking structures are seen in the differential branching fractions measured as functions of Dalitz variables.

Abstract: Improvement in the performance of pentacene organic thin-film transistor has been demonstrated by using fluorine plasma-treated or ion-implanted HfO 2 as its gate dielectric. The carrier mobility of the OTFT on HfO 2 with 900-s plasma treatment can reach a carrier mobility of 0.662 cm2/Vs, about 7 times higher than that of the control sample without fluorine incorporation. The reason is larger pentacene grains due to trap passivation, smoother surface and higher surface energy. On the other hand, the carrier mobility of the OTFT on HfO 2 with a fluorine implant dose of (1 ×10)14/cm2 is improved to 0.251 cm2/Vs, about 2.7 times higher than that of the control sample. The smoother surface of the gate dielectric with fluorine implant results in the growth of larger pentacene grains, leading to an increase of carrier mobility. However, excessive fluorine implant dose or plasma treatment time could cause damage to the gate dielectric, thus decreasing the carrier mobility of the device.

Abstract: Carrier mobility of MoS 2 transistor can be greatly improved by screening the Columbic scattering by a high-k gate dielectric. In this work, different TiO 2 amounts are incorporated into HfO 2 to form Hf 1-x Ti x O gate dielectrics to investigate its effects on the electrical properties of MoS 2 transistor. It is found that enhanced carrier mobility and decreased gate leakage current can be achieved by optimizing the Ti content, i.e. with ${\rm{Hf}}_{0.9}{\rm{Ti}}_{0.1}O (x\ =\ 0.1)$ as the gate dielectric, the device exhibits the highest carrier mobility of 31.5 ${\rm{cm}}^{2}/Vs$, which is $ 1.3\times$ improvement as compared to the sample with HfO 2 as gate dielectric $(24.1\ {\rm{cm}}^{2}/Vs)$. The main mechanism lies in that Hf 1-x Ti x O has higher k value than HfO 2 to increase the Coulomb screening effect and thus carrier mobility. However, with further increase of Ti content, e.g. ${\rm{Hf}}_{0.85}{\rm{Ti}}_{0.15}O (x=\ 0.15)$, the device exhibits larger off current and degraded subthreshold swing. This is probably attributed to Ti-related oxide traps, a decreased conduction-band offset between ${\rm{Hf}}_{0.85}{\rm{Ti}}_{0.15}{\rm{O}}$ and MoS 2 , and degraded $MoS_{2}/{\rm{Hf}}_{1-x}{\rm{Ti}}_{x}{\rm{O}}$ interface quality.

Abstract: Acrylamide (AA) and glycidamide (GA) can be produced in carbohydrate-rich food when heated at a high temperature, which can induce a malignant transformation. It has been demonstrated that GA is more mutagenic than AA. It has been shown that the proliferation rate of some cancer cells are increased by treatment with GA, however, the exact genes that are induced by GA in most cancer cells are not clear. In the present study, we demonstrated that GA promotes the growth of prostate cancer cells through induced protein expression of the cell cycle regulator. In addition, we also found that GA promoted the migratory ability of prostate cancer cells through induced epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT)-associated protein expression. In order to understand the potential prognostic relevance of GA-mediated regulators of the cell cycle and EMT, we present a three-gene signature to evaluate the prognosis of prostate cancer patients. Further investigations suggested that the three-gene signature (CDK4, TWIST1 and SNAI2) predicted the chances of survival better than any of the three genes alone for the first time. In conclusion, we suggested that the three-gene signature model can act as marker of GA exposure. Hence, this multi-gene panel may serve as a promising outcome predictor and potential therapeutic target in prostate cancer patients.

Abstract: Protein-catalyzed capture agents (PCCs) are synthetic and modular peptide-based affinity agents that are developed through the use of single generation in situ click chemistry screens against large peptide libraries. In such screens, the target protein, or a synthetic epitope fragment of that protein, provides a template for selectively promoting the non-copper catalyzed azide-alkyne dipolar cycloaddition click reaction between either a library peptide and a known ligand, or a library peptide and the synthetic epitope. The development of epitope-targeted PCCs was motivated by the desire to fully generalize pioneering work from the Sharpless and Finn groups in which in situ click screens were used to develop potent, divalent enzymatic inhibitors. In fact, a large degree of generality has now been achieved. Various PCCs have demonstrated utility for selective protein detection, as allosteric or direct inhibitors, as modulators of protein folding, and as tools for in vivo tumor imaging. We provide a historical context for PCCs, and place them within the broader scope of biological and synthetic aptamers. The development of PCCs is presented as: (i) Generation I PCCs, which are branched ligands engineered through an iterative, non-epitope targeted process, and (ii) Generation II PCCs, which are typically developed from macrocyclic peptide libraries and are precisely epitope targeted. We provide statistical comparisons of Generation II PCCs relative to monoclonal antibodies in which the protein target is the same. Finally, we discuss current challenges and future opportunities of PCCs.

Abstract: We report the case of a young adult who became unresponsive after insufflating what he believed to be "crushed Xanax." Naloxone was administered, reversing his altered mental status and respiratory depression. Clinicians suspected opioid toxicity; however, the patient adamantly denied opioid use. Because of unclear etiology of his symptoms, blood and urine specimens were obtained. A urine specimen was split and then submitted for a clinical comprehensive drug screen using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The blood specimen and the remaining urine specimen were sent to a reference laboratory for analysis using liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry. The standard, clinical gas chromatography-mass spectrometry urine drug testing procedure only detected caffeine; however, analysis by liquid chromatography quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry confirmed the presence of U-47700 (a high-potency clandestine opioid) and its metabolites in the urine and blood. These findings implicate U-47700 as the agent responsible for the patient's signs of opioid toxicity. In this case, a young adult intending to use alprazolam encountered U-47700 with life-threatening effect. Clinicians must remain vigilant for symptoms consistent with opioid overdose, especially with increasing prevalence of counterfeit drugs containing clandestine opioids. Clinicians must also consider obtaining specimens for appropriate analytical testing to improve surveillance and facilitate public health interventions.

Abstract: We report the study of B+→pΛ¯K+K- and B+→p¯ΛK+K+ decays using a 772×106 BB¯ pair data sample recorded on the ϒ(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at KEKB. The following branching fractions are measured: B(B+→pΛ¯K+K-)=(4.10-0.43+0.45±0.50)×10-6, B(B+→p¯ΛK+K+)=(3.70-0.37+0.39±0.44)×10-6, B(ηc→pΛ¯K-+c.c.)=(2.83-0.34+0.36±0.35)×10-3 and B(B+→pΛ¯ϕ)=( 7.95±2.09±0.77)×10-7, where c.c. denotes the corresponding charge-conjugation process. The intermediate resonance decays are excluded in the four-body decay measurements. We also find evidence for B(ηc→Λ(1520)Λ¯+c.c.)=(3.48±1.48±0.46)×10-3 and B(B+→Λ(1520)Λ¯K+)=( 2.23±0.63±0.25)×10-6. No significant signals are found for J/ψ→Λ(1520)Λ¯+c.c. and B+→Λ¯(1520)ΛK+; we set the 90% confidence level upper limits on their decay branching fractions as

Abstract: We search for CP violation in the singly-Cabibbo-suppressed decay D0→K+K-π+π- using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 988 fb-1 collected by the Belle detector at the KEKB e+e- collider. We measure a set of five kinematically dependent CP asymmetries, of which four asymmetries are measured for the first time. The set of asymmetry measurements can be sensitive to CP violation via interference between the different partial-wave contributions to the decay and performed on other pseudoscalar decays. We find no evidence of CP violation.

Abstract: ObjectivesPrevalence of multimorbidity has been increasing worldwide. While population ageing undoubtedly contributes, secular trends have seldom been decomposed into age, period and cohort effects to investigate intergenerational differences. This study examines the birth cohort effect on morbidity burden and multimorbidity in Hong Kong community.DesignSex-specific age-period-cohort analysis with repeated cross-sectional surveys.SettingA territory-wide population survey database.Participants69 636 adults aged 35 or above who participated in the surveys in 1999, 2001, 2005 or 2008.Main outcome measuresMorbidity burden was operationalised as number of chronic conditions from a list of 14, while multimorbidity was defined as a dichotomous status of whether participants had two or more conditions.ResultsFor both sexes, there was an upward inflection (positive change) of risk of increased morbidity burden starting from cohort 1955–1959. For men born after 1945–1954, there was a trend of lower risk (relative risk=0.63, 95% CI 0.50 to 0.80 for 1950–1954 vs 1935–1939) which continued through subsequent cohorts but with no further declines. In women, there had been a gradual increase of risk, although only significant for cohort 1970–1974 (relative risk=1.90, 95% CI 1.08 to 1.34 vs 1935–1939). Similar results were found for dichotomous multimorbidity status.ConclusionsThe trend of lower risk starting from men born in 1945–1954 may be due to a persistent decline in smoking rates since the 1980s. On the other hand, the childhood obesity epidemic starting from the late 1950s coincided with the observed upward inflection of risk for both sexes, that is, notably more drastic increase of risk in women and the levelling-off of the decline of risk in men. These findings highlight that the cohort effects on morbidity burden and multimorbidity may be sex-specific and contextual. By examining such effects in different world populations, localised sex-specific and generation-specific risk factors can be identified to inform policy-making.

Abstract: Contains fulltext : 215333.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Closed access) BACKGROUND: Patients with stable coronary artery disease and diabetes with previous percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), particularly those with previous stenting, are at high risk of ischaemic events. These patients are generally treated with aspirin. In this trial, we aimed to investigate if these patients would benefit from treatment with aspirin plus ticagrelor. METHODS: The Effect of Ticagrelor on Health Outcomes in diabEtes Mellitus patients Intervention Study (THEMIS) was a phase 3 randomised, double-blinded, placebo-controlled trial, done in 1315 sites in 42 countries. Patients were eligible if 50 years or older, with type 2 diabetes, receiving anti-hyperglycaemic drugs for at least 6 months, with stable coronary artery disease, and one of three other mutually non-exclusive criteria: a history of previous PCI or of coronary artery bypass grafting, or documentation of angiographic stenosis of 50% or more in at least one coronary artery. Eligible patients were randomly assigned (1:1) to either ticagrelor or placebo, by use of an interactive voice-response or web-response system. The THEMIS-PCI trial comprised a prespecified subgroup of patients with previous PCI. The primary efficacy outcome was a composite of cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, or stroke (measured in the intention-to-treat population). FINDINGS: Between Feb 17, 2014, and May 24, 2016, 11 154 patients (58% of the overall THEMIS trial) with a history of previous PCI were enrolled in the THEMIS-PCI trial. Median follow-up was 3.3 years (IQR 2.8-3.8). In the previous PCI group, fewer patients receiving ticagrelor had a primary efficacy outcome event than in the placebo group (404 [7.3%] of 5558 vs 480 [8.6%] of 5596; HR 0.85 [95% CI 0.74-0.97], p=0.013). The same effect was not observed in patients without PCI (p=0.76, pinteraction=0.16). It offered a platform where theorists and experimentalists could work together to elucidate the potential impacts of the Belle II program, which includes a wide scope of physics topics: B physics, charm, τ , quarkonium physics, electroweak precision measurements, and dark sector searches. Kou et al. are coordinated by teams of theory and experiment conveners: WG1, Semileptonic and leptonic B Decays; WG2, Radiative and Electroweak Penguins; WG3, φ1 and φ2 (Time-Dependent CP Violation) Measurements; WG4, φ3 Measurement; WG5, Charmless Hadronic B Decay; WG6, Charm; WG7, Quarkonium(-like); WG8, τ and Low-Multiplicity Processes; WG9, New Physics. We organized workshops twice a year from 2014 until 2016, which moved from KEK in Japan to Europe and the Americas, gathering experts in the respective fields for discussions with Belle II members. One of the goals for B2TiP was to propose so-called “golden and silver channels”: we asked each working group to choose, among numerous possible measurements, those that would have the highest potential impact and to focus on them for the writeup. Theorists scrutinized the role of those measurements in terms of understanding the theory behind them, and estimated the theoretical uncertainties now achievable as well as prospects for the future. For flavor physics, having tight control of hadronic uncertainties is one of the most crucial aspects in the field, and this is considered an important criterion in determining the golden or silver channels. Experimentalists, on the other hand, investigated the expected improvements with data from Belle II. For the channels where the errors are dominated by statistical uncertainties, or where systematic errors are reducible, the errors can decrease rapidly as more data becomes available. The impact of the upgraded performance from Belle II is a crucial element in reducing the uncertainties: we therefore include the latest available studies of the detector efficiency using Monte Carlo simulated events.We list the golden and silver channel table in the introductory chapter, as a guide for the chapters that follow. This book is not a collection of reports based on talks given at the workshops. The working group conveners endeavored to construct a coherent document that can be used by Belle II collaborators, and others in the field of flavor physics, as a reference. Two books of a similar type have been produced in the past: The BaBar Book [1] and The Physics of the B Factories [2]. In order to avoid too much repetition with respect to those references, we refer to them wherever possible for introductory material. Abstract: We report the synthesis of the first stable, solution-processable and photocrosslinkable hybrid organic/\ud inorganic titanium dioxide nanorods as ‘hairy rods’ coated with phosphonate ligands with photoreactive\ud coumarin groups located in a terminal position. The relationships between the chemical structure of the\ud diethyl-u-[(7-oxycoumaryl)-n-alkyl]phosphonate ligands on the ligand exchange rate (LER) and the\ud solubility of the resultant ligand-stabilized titanium dioxide nanorods in organic solvents are elucidated.\ud These TiO2 nanorods, with an organic ligand coating, are short enough (aspect ratio ¼ 5–8) to be\ud dissolved in chlorobenzene at high concentrations, but long enough to form lyotropic nematic liquid\ud crystals. These colloidal solutions are used to deposit a thin, uniform layer of hybrid organic/inorganic\ud TiO2 nanorods with their long axes in the plane of a flat, smooth substrate through a self-organization\ud process. Standard photolithographic patterning creates an insoluble dielectric layer of the desired\ud thickness, smoothness and uniformity and with a dielectric constant of sufficient magnitude, k ¼ 8,\ud suitable for the fabrication of multilayer, plastic electronic devices using solution-based fabrication\ud techniques, such as ink-jet printing, used in roll-to-roll manufacturing.

Abstract: ImportanceAlthough IgA nephropathy (IgAN) is the most common glomerulonephritis in the world, there is no validated tool to predict disease progression. This limits patient-specific risk stratification and treatment decisions, clinical trial recruitment, and biomarker validation. ObjectiveTo derive and externally validate a prediction model for disease progression in IgAN that can be applied at the time of kidney biopsy in multiple ethnic groups worldwide. Design, Setting, and ParticipantsWe derived and externally validated a prediction model using clinical and histologic risk factors that are readily available in clinical practice. Large, multi-ethnic cohorts of adults with biopsy-proven IgAN were included from Europe, North America, China, and Japan. Main Outcomes and MeasuresCox proportional hazards models were used to analyze the risk of a 50% decline in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) or end-stage kidney disease, and were evaluated using the R-D(2) measure, Akaike information criterion (AIC), C statistic, continuous net reclassification improvement (NRI), integrated discrimination improvement (IDI), and calibration plots. ResultsThe study included 3927 patients; mean age, 35.4 (interquartile range, 28.0-45.4) years; and 2173 (55.3%) were men. The following prediction models were created in a derivation cohort of 2781 patients: a clinical model that included eGFR, blood pressure, and proteinuria at biopsy; and 2 full models that also contained the MEST histologic score, age, medication use, and either racial/ethnic characteristics (white, Japanese, or Chinese) or no racial/ethnic characteristics, to allow application in other ethnic groups. Compared with the clinical model, the full models with and without race/ethnicity had better R-D(2) (26.3% and 25.3%, respectively, vs 20.3%) and AIC (6338 and 6379, respectively, vs 6485), significant increases in C statistic from 0.78 to 0.82 and 0.81, respectively (Delta C, 0.04; 95% CI, 0.03-0.04 and Delta C, 0.03; 95% CI, 0.02-0.03, respectively), and significant improvement in reclassification as assessed by the NRI (0.18; 95% CI, 0.07-0.29 and 0.51; 95% CI, 0.39-0.62, respectively) and IDI (0.07; 95% CI, 0.06-0.08 and 0.06; 95% CI, 0.05-0.06, respectively). External validation was performed in a cohort of 1146 patients. For both full models, the C statistics (0.82; 95% CI, 0.81-0.83 with race/ethnicity; 0.81; 95% CI, 0.80-0.82 without race/ethnicity) and R-D(2) (both 35.3%) were similar or better than in the validation cohort, with excellent calibration. Conclusions and RelevanceIn this study, the 2 full prediction models were shown to be accurate and validated methods for predicting disease progression and patient risk stratification in IgAN in multi-ethnic cohorts, with additional applications to clinical trial design and biomarker research.

Abstract: A model for the dimeric form of the human TSPO (hTSPO) protein is constructed homologically using the RsTSPO dimer template. Then, Molecular dynamics simulation of 1μs is carried out on the model to investigate its stability as well as to study its various physicochemical properties. Our model shows good stability, with various important conserved residues involving in monomer–monomer interactions, in good agreements with available experimental data. Several functioning motifs are well demonstrated. This model hence can serve as a good basis for further study of this system as well as for discoveries of candidate radioligands targeting TSPO protein as a biotracer for medical imaging of brain inflamation.

Abstract: The private writings of two Southern Baptist women missionaries in China are analyzed to deepen our understanding of women’s perspectives on their daily lives. After reviewing secondary research on married and single women’s work in China, the author uses primary source examples from family letters and diaries to illustrate differences in responsibilities and opportunities for single and married women, and how motherhood changed their relationship to their work even further. Requirements for “homemaking”, and a “civilizing mission” expected of married women, increased pressure on missionary wives. Single women, arriving in larger numbers in the early 20th century, were able to focus only on the mission work and accomplish more. The success and productivity of single women further marginalized married women, particularly those with children, who could not keep up with their single counterparts in the mission work. By exploring these two exemplars we can draw an even more nuanced picture of the many ways Baptist women missionaries negotiated their callings in light of their family status.

Abstract: We report a measurement of the branching fraction and final-state asymmetry for the B0?KS0K±p± decays. The analysis is based on a data sample of 711 fb-1 collected at the ?(4S) resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB asymmetric-energy e+e- collider. We obtain a branching fraction of (3.60±0.33±0.15)×10-6 and a final-state asymmetry of (-8.5±8.9±0.2)%, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. Hints of peaking structures are found in the differential branching fractions measured as functions of Dalitz variables.

Abstract: The charge-trapping properties of Y-doped BaTiO3 (Y-BTO) are investigated using an Al/Al2O3/Y-BTO/SiO2/Si structure. Compared with the memory capacitor with pure BaTiO3, the one with Y doping shows better charge-trapping characteristics, including larger memory window (7.4 V at ±14 V sweeping voltage), higher program speed (7.5 V at +14 V for 100 $\mu \text{s}$ ) and better retention (96% retained charge at 298 K after $10^{4}$ s) due to its higher trapping efficiency resulted from the higher trap density of Y-BTO and higher-quality Y-BTO/SiO2 interface, both induced by the Y doping. Therefore, Y-BTO is a promising candidate as the charge-trapping layer for nonvolatile memory applications.

Abstract: The origin of contact-resistance reduction induced by Ar plasma treatment and the effects of the treatment on the down-scaling of amorphous InGaZnO thin-film transistor are investigated. The treatment induces more TiOx and oxygen vacancies at the InGaZnO/Ti interface which facilitate electron flow between the InGaZnO film and source/drain (S/D) electrodes by trap-assisted tunneling, thus resulting in smaller width-normalized S/D contact resistance ( $\text{R}_{\mathrm {S/D_{n}orm}} = 19.9~\Omega $ .cm) than that without Ar treatment ( $75.6~\Omega $ .cm). Mainly owing to the reduction in $\text{R}_{\mathrm {S/D_{n}orm}}$ , the Ar-treated device presents improved down-scaling behaviors than the untreated one. The Ar-treated device with a channel length of $5~\mu \text{m}$ still has good performance with a small sub-threshold swing of 252 mV/decade, a high field-effect mobility of 11.1 cm2/V.s, and a large ON – OFF current ratio of $1.7\times 10^{7}$ .

Abstract: Inclusive teaching tasks have consistently been found challenging for teachers, but it is unclear how they are ranked in terms of the extent of self-efficacy required. This study aimed at deriving such a hierarchy. A survey was conducted on 107 primary school teachers in Hong Kong using the Teacher Efficacy for Inclusive Practices scale. A Rasch rating scale model was applied to empirically examine the hierarchical structure. Good person reliability (0.89) and model fit (MNSQ 0.6–1.4) were achieved. Managing physical aggression was found at the top of the hierarchy; this and other results could facilitate the identification of training needs.

Abstract: ObjectiveTreatment outcomes for unruptured anterior communicating artery (ACoA) aneurysms are not well established. We aimed to investigate the safety and effectiveness of microsurgical clipping (MC), endovascular coiling (EC), and stent assisted coiling (SAC) of unruptured ACoA aneurysms to aid pretreatment clinical decisions.MethodsA systematic review of the literature was conducted using the Ovid Medline and EMBASE electronic databases, encompassing all English language studies reporting treatment outcomes for unruptured ACoA aneurysms published between 2005 and 2015. The analyses were directed towards patient focused outcomes: good therapeutic outcome (Glasgow Outcome Score of 5 (GOS 5), modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score of 0–1), poor therapeutic outcome (GOS 1–4, mRS 2–6), 30 day mortality, recurrence/retreatment rates, and post-treatment subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH).Results14 studies with 862 treated aneurysms were included (EC, n=372; MC, n=401; SAC, n=89). EC resulted in significantly lower treatment related morbidity compared with MC or SAC (EC 0.8%, MC 4.4%, SAC 7.9%; p=0.001); treatment related mortality occurred in 0%, 0.3%, and 1.1%, for EC, MC, and SAC, respectively. MC resulted in significantly lower angiographic recurrence (EC 7.2%, MC 0%, SAC 12.3%; pConclusionsWhile there are limitations to the data, EC resulted in a more favorable clinical outcome, and MC resulted in more robust aneurysm repair, for unruptured ACoA aneurysms. SAC had a higher treatment morbidity risk than EC, without reduction in retreatment rate. All treatments were effective in preventing SAH. The current pooled analysis of treatment outcomes provides a useful aid to pretreatment clinical decision making.

Abstract: This work proposes a method for extracting the barrier height, ideality factor, series, and shunt resistances of Schottky diodes with high accuracy and consistency. By defining the voltage boundaries for the three regions of the current–voltage curve that are controlled by shunt resistance, thermal emission, and series resistance, respectively, the method can avoid the problems of traditional methods through nonlinear fitting and iterations. The application on Schottky-diode-type hydrogen sensor with a structure of Pd/WO3/SiC reveals excellent agreement between the extracted voltage boundaries and the turning points on the current–voltage curve under different temperatures and hydrogen concentrations. The average mean-squared error of the model current–voltage data vs. experimental data is 0.371, more than five times smaller than that of traditional methods based on least-squares linear regression.

Abstract: Thoreliolides A and B, two new polyisoprenylated benzoylphloroglucinol derivatives with a novel carbon skeleton, together with four known compounds, were isolated from the fruits of Calophyllum thorelii and their structures elucidated using spectroscopic methods. Thoreliolide B showed moderate activity against three cancer cell lines, MCF-7, HeLa and NCI-H460, with IC 50 values of 9.7, 16.6 and 24.2 μg/mL, respectively, using the sulforhodamine B assay.

Abstract: In this paper we examine a four-good, four-factor model of trade with two agents: domestic residents and temporary migrants. This modelling framework has three important features: first, there are two tradable and two non-tradable goods; second, there exists Kaldorian disaggregation in consumption; third, the structure incorporates a combination of price adjustment. The results emphasize the influence of factor accumulation at constant traded goods prices on the variable prices of non-traded goods. We also analyse the impact of temporary migration and other structural parameters on domestic welfare. To highlight our results, our model is calibrated on a typical small open economy, Hong Kong, and a wide array of situations are presented when temporary migration and Kaldorian disaggregation can reduce domestic welfare in response to exogenous shocks.

Abstract: The effects of positive gate-bias stress (PGBS) and temperature on the electrical instability of amorphous InGaZnO thin-film transistor with a thin ZrLaO film as gate dielectric were investigated. An abnormal negative PGBS-induced $V_{\mathrm {th}}$ shift ( $\Delta V_{\mathrm{ th}}$ , up to −3.3 V) without subthreshold swing (SS) degradation was found at 300 K, while a positive PGBS-induced $\Delta V_{\mathrm{ th}}$ (+1.0 V at 250 K and +0.7 V at 200 K) without SS degradation appeared at low temperature. The negative PGBS-induced $\Delta V_{\mathrm{ th}}$ at 300 K is due to carrier creation in the InGaZnO film, which is mainly resulted from the enhanced control ability of the gate on the channel by using thin high- $k$ ZrLaO as the gate dielectric of the transistor. The positive PGBS-induced $\Delta V_{\mathrm{ th}}$ at low temperature is caused by electron trapping happening near the ZrLaO/InGaZnO interface at low temperature.
