We compute the pair entanglement between two interacting bosons in a two dimensional (2D)isotropic harmonic trap. The interaction potential is modeled by a 2D regularized pseudo-potential. By analytically decomposing the wave function into the single particle basis, we show the dependency of the pair entanglement on the scattering length. Our results turn out to be in good agreements with earlier results using a quasi-2D geometry., Comment: 5 figures

We study the dynamics of a two-species Bose-Einstein condensate in a double well. Such a system is characterized by the intraspecies and interspecies s-wave scattering as well as the Josephson tunneling between the two wells and the population transfer between the two species. We investigate the dynamics for some interesting regimes and present numerical results to support our conclusions. In the case of vanishing intraspecies scattering lengths and a weak interspecies scattering length, we find collapses and revivals in the population dynamics. Spectral line width broadening in Rydberg gases, a phenomenon previously attributed to the many-body effect, was observed experimentally almost a decade ago. The observed line width was typically 80-100 times larger than the average interaction strength predicted from a binary interaction. The interpretation of such a phenomenon is usually based on the so-called diffusion model, where the line width broadening mostly originates from the diffusion of excitations. In this paper, we present a model calculation to show that diffusion is not the main mechanism to the line width broadening. We find that the rare pair fluctuation at small separation is the dominant factor contributing to this broadening. Our results give a width of about 20-30 times larger than the average interaction strength. More importantly, by turning off the diffusion process, we do not observe order of magnitude change in the spectral line width.

It is argued that orbital electron-capture decays of neutral $^{142}$Pm atoms implanted into the lattice of a solid (LBNL experiment) do not fulfil the constraints of true two-body beta decays, since momentum as well as energy of the final state are distributed among three objects, namely the electron neutrino, the recoiling daughter atom and the lattice phonons. To our understanding, this could be a reason for the non-observation of a periodic time modulation in the number of electron-capture decays of implanted neutral $^{142}$Pm atoms., Comment: 2 p. comment on arXiv:0807.0649v1

We compute the dynamics of excitation and two-body correlation for two-level "pseudoatoms" in a 1D lattice. We adopt a simplified model where pair excitation within a finite range is perfectly blocked. Each superatom is initially in the ground state, and then subjected to an external driving laser with Rabi frequency satisfying a Poissonian distribution, mimicking the scenario as in Rydberg gases. We find that two-body quantum correlation drops very fast with the distance between pseudoatoms. However, the total correlation decays slowly even at large distance. Our results may be useful to the understanding of Rydberg gases in the strong blockade regime.

The ground-state properties of the recent reported proton emitter 145Tm have been studied within the axially or triaxially deformed relativistic mean field (RMF) approaches, in which the pairing correlation is taken into account by the BCS-method with a constant pairing gap. It is found that triaxiality and pairing correlations play important roles in reproducing the experimental one proton separation energy. The single-particle level, the proton emission orbit, the deformation parameters beta = 0.22 and gamma = 28.98 and the corresponding spectroscopic factor for 145Tm in the triaxial RMF calculation are given as well., Comment: 17 pages, 7 figures and 1 table. accepted by Physical Review C

We report on time-modulated two-body weak decays observed in the orbital electron capture of hydrogen-like $^{140}$Pr$^{59+}$ and $^{142}$Pm$^{60+}$ ions coasting in an ion storage ring. Using non-destructive single ion, time-resolved Schottky mass spectrometry we found that the expected exponential decay is modulated in time with a modulation period of about 7 seconds for both systems. Tentatively this observation is attributed to the coherent superposition of finite mass eigenstates of the electron neutrinos from the weak decay into a two-body final state., Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures

We report on the first measurement of the $\beta^+$- and orbital electron capture decay rates of $^{140}$Pr nuclei with the most simple electron configurations: bare nuclei, hydrogen-like and helium-like ions. The measured electron capture decay constant of hydrogen-like $^{140}$Pr$^{58+}$ ions is about 50% larger than that of helium-like $^{140}$Pr$^{57+}$ ions. Moreover, $^{140}$Pr ions with one bound electron decay faster than neutral $^{140}$Pr$^{0+}$ atoms with 59 electrons. To explain this peculiar observation one has to take into account the conservation of the total angular momentum, since only particular spin orientations of the nucleus and of the captured electron can contribute to the allowed decay., Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures

To clarify whether or not (Ga,Cr)As is an intrinsic diluted magnetic semiconductor, a systematic study of the magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) was carried out for a series of (Ga,Cr)As epilayers grown by the low-temperature molecular-beam epitaxy technique. The present work provides unambiguous evidence for the intrinsic ferromagnetism of the (Ga,Cr)As epilayers with all the necessary properties in accordance with that of a diluted magnetic semiconductor, especially the hysteresis characteristics, which is opened up in the magnetic field dependence of MCD., Comment: 13 pages

A new mass table calculated by the relativistic mean field approach with the state-dependent BCS method for the pairing correlation is applied for the first time to study r-process nucleosynthesis. The solar r-process abundance is well reproduced within a waiting-point approximation approach. Using an exponential fitting procedure to find the required astrophysical conditions, the influence of mass uncertainty is investigated. R-process calculations using the FRDM, ETFSI-Q and HFB-13 mass tables have been used for that purpose. It is found that the nuclear physical uncertainty can significantly influence the deduced astrophysical conditions for the r-process site. Density dependent parametrization models of the nucleon-meson effective couplings, including the isovector scalar \delta-field, are applied to asymmetric nuclear matter. The nuclear equation of state and the neutron star properties are studied in an effective Lagrangian density approach, using the relativistic mean field hadron theory. It is known that the introduction of a \delta-meson in the constant coupling scheme leads to an increase of the symmetry energy at high density and so to larger neutron star masses, in a pure nucleon-lepton scheme. We use here a more microscopic density dependent model of the nucleon-meson couplings to study the properties of neutron star matter and to re-examine the \delta-field effects in asymmetric nuclear matter. Our calculations show that, due to the increase of the effective \delta coupling at high density, with density dependent couplings the neutron star masses in fact can be even reduced., Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures

We investigate quantum entanglement between two (spin-1/2) fermions inside a cylindrical harmonic trap, making use of the von Neumann entropy for the reduced single particle density matrix as the pure state entanglement measure. We explore the dependence of pair entanglement on the geometry and strength of the trap and on the strength of the pairing interaction over the complete range of the effective BCS to BEC crossover. Our result elucidates an interesting connection between our model system of two fermions and that of two interacting bosons., Comment: to appear in PRA

We show that atomic dipolar effects are detectable in the system that recently demonstrated two-atom coherent spin dynamics within individual lattice sites of a Mott state. Based on a two-state approximation for the two-atom internal states and relying on a variational approach, we have estimated the spin dipolar effect. We propose a scheme for the controlled generation of Einstein-Podosky-Rosen (EPR) entangled photon pairs from an atom coupled to a high Q optical cavity, extending the prototype system as a source for deterministic single photons. A thorough theoretical analysis confirms the promising operating conditions of our scheme as afforded by currently available experimental setups. Our result demonstrates the cavity QED system as an efficient and effective source for entangled photon pairs, and shines new light on its important role in quantum information science., Comment: It has recently come to our attention that the experiment by T. The FRS-ESR facilities at GSI provide unique conditions for precision measurements with stored exotic nuclei over a large range in the chart of nuclides. In the present experiment the exotic nuclei were produced via fragmentation of $^{152}$Sm projectiles in a thick beryllium target at 500-600 MeV/u, separated in-flight with the fragment separator FRS, and injected into the storage-cooler ring ESR. Mass and lifetime measurements have been performed with bare and few-electron ions. We extend an earlier model by Law {\it et al.} \cite{law} for a cavity QED based single-photon-gun to atom-photon entanglement generation and distribution. We illuminate the importance of a small critical atom number on the fidelity of the proposed operation in the strong coupling limit. Our result points to a promisingly high purity and efficiency using currently available cavity QED parameters, and sheds new light on constructing quantum computing and communication devices with trapped atoms and high Q optical cavities., Comment: 7 figs
