Kematian bayi adalah kematian yang terjadi antara saat setelah bayi lahir sampai bayi belum berusia tepat satu tahun. Angka Kematian Bayi (AKB) adalah banyaknya kematian bayi berusia di bawah satu tahun per 1.000 kelahiran hidup pada satu tahun tertentu. Rata-rata jumlah kematian bayi perlu diketahui sebagai upaya untuk mengurangi angka kematian bayi. Pada penelitian ini akan diduga rata-rata kematian bayi tiap puskesmas di Kabupaten Padang Pariaman menggunakan metode Bayes. Data yang digunakan adalah data jumlah kematian bayi di puskesmas di Kabupaten Padang Pariaman sepanjang tahun 2019 dan 2020. Telah diperlihatkan bahwa jumlah kematian bayi menyebar menurut sebaran Poisson. Sebaran prior yang digunakan adalah sebaran Gamma, Uniform dan dengan metode Jeffrey. Rata-Rata jumlah kematian bayi diduga dari sebaran posterior Gamma, diperoleh dugaan rata-rata kematian bayi adalah sebesar 0, 83 per puskesmas. Disimpulkan juga bahwa pendugaan Bayes dengan distribusi prior Gamma lebih baik dibandingkan distribusi prior lainnya.

Objectives: To characterize the kinetics of humoral and T-cell responses in rheumatoid arthritis (RA)-patients followed up to 4-6 weeks (T3) after the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine booster dose. Methods: Health care workers (HCWs, n = 38) and patients with RA (n = 52) completing the messenger RNA vaccination schedule were enrolled at T3. In each cohort, 25 subjects were sampled after 5 weeks (T1) and 6 months (T2) from the first vaccine dose. The humoral response was assessed by measuring anti-receptor-binding domain (RBD) and neutralizing antibodies, the T-cell response by interferon-γ-release assay (IGRA), T cell cytokine production, and B cell phenotype at T3 by flow cytometry. Results: Patients with RA showed a significant reduction of antibody titers from T1 to T2 and a significant increase at T3. T-cell response by IGRA persisted over time in patients with RA, whereas it increased in HCWs. Most patients with RA scored positive for anti-RBD, neutralizing antibody and T-cell responses, although the magnitude was lower than HCWs. The spike-specific-cytokine response was mainly clusters of differentiation (CD)4+ T cells restricted in both cohorts and significantly lower with reduced interleukin-2 response and CD4-antigen-responding naïve T cells in patients with RA. Unswitched memory B cells were reduced in patients with RA compared with HCWs independently of vaccination. Conclusion: COVID-19 vaccine booster strengthens the humoral immunity in patients with RA even with a reduced cytokine response.

Abstract Eye movements and other rich data obtained in virtual reality (VR) environments resembling situations where symptoms are manifested could help in the objective detection of various symptoms in clinical conditions. In the present study, 37 children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and 36 typically developing controls (9–13 y.o) played a lifelike prospective memory game using head-mounted display with inbuilt 90 Hz eye tracker. Eye movement patterns had prominent group differences, but they were dispersed across the full performance time rather than associated with specific events or stimulus features. A support vector machine classifier trained on eye movement data showed excellent discrimination ability with 0.92 area under curve, which was significantly higher than for task performance measures or for eye movements obtained in a visual search task. We demonstrated that a naturalistic VR task combined with eye tracking allows accurate prediction of attention deficits, paving the way for precision diagnostics.

Abstract The populational heterogeneity of a disease, in part due to comorbidity, poses several complexities. Individual comorbidity profiles, on the other hand, contain useful information to refine phenotyping, prognostication, and risk assessment, and they provide clues to underlying biology. Nevertheless, the spectrum and the implications of the diagnosis profiles remain largely uncharted. Here we mapped comorbidity patterns in 100 common diseases using 4-year retrospective data from 526,779 patients and developed an online tool to visualize the results. Our analysis exposed disease-specific patient subgroups with distinctive diagnosis patterns, survival functions, and laboratory correlates. Computational modeling and real-world data shed light on the structure, variation, and relevance of populational comorbidity patterns, paving the way for improved diagnostics, risk assessment, and individualization of care. Variation in outcomes and biological correlates of a disease emphasizes the importance of evaluating the generalizability of current treatment strategies, as well as considering the limitations that selective inclusion criteria pose on clinical trials.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to characterize the SARS-CoV-2-specific T cell response detected by the QuantiFERON SARS-CoV-2 research use only assay in terms of accuracy and T cell subsets involved compared with a homemade interferon (IFN)-γ release assay (IGRA).Methods: We evaluated T cell response by the standardized QuantiFERON SARS-CoV-2 tubes (antigen [Ag]1 and Ag2) and a homemade IGRA quantifying IFN-γ response to SARS-CoV-2 spike peptides (homemade-IGRA-SPIKE test). We evaluated the T cell subsets mediating the specific response using flow cytometry.Results: We prospectively enrolled 66 individuals: COVID-19 or post-COVID-19 subjects and NO-COVID-19-vaccinated subjects, including healthy donors and immunocompromised subjects. The standardized kit detected 62.1% (41/66) of T cell responders. Ag2 tube showed a higher IFN-γ quantitative and qualitative response. Ag1 tube response was mainly mediated by CD4+ T cells; Ag2 tube response was mediated by CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. The homemade-IGRA-SPIKE test detected a higher number of responders (52/66, 78.8%) than the QuantiFERON SARS-CoV-2 assay (P = 0.056). The response was found in both T cell subsets, although a higher magnitude and response rate was observed in the CD4+ T cell subset.Conclusion: The QuantiFERON SARS-CoV-2 response is mediated by CD4+ and CD8+ T cells. A lower number of responders is found compared with the homemade-IGRA-SPIKE test, likely because of the different peptide composition.

Abstract Background Asthma with NSAID‐exacerbated respiratory disease (NERD) is associated with uncontrolled or severe asthma. NERD patients are more prone to severe allergic reactions and their asthma exacerbations lead to hospitalisations twice as often compared to patients with non‐NERD‐asthma. NERD patients are prone to recurrent nasal polyposis requiring frequent endoscopic sinus surgeries. However, the early risk factors of NERD are not fully understood. The aim was to identify risk factors of NERD among patients with adult‐onset asthma. Methods We used data from 1350 population‐based adult asthmatics with adult‐onset asthma from Finnish national registers. NERD was defined as self‐reported wheeze or other typical respiratory symptoms after ingestion of NSAIDs. Thirty‐six covariates covering several domains (personal characteristics, life‐style, early life factors, asthma characteristics and multimorbidities) were selected based on literature and were studied in association with NERD using logistic regressions. Objective To leverage large scale genetic association data to investigate the interplay between circulating cytokines and cardiometabolic traits, and thus identifying potential therapeutic targets.Design Bi-directional Mendelian randomisation study.Setting Genome-wide association studies from three Finnish cohorts (Northern Finland Birth Cohort 1966, Young Finns Study, or FINRISK study), and genetic association summary statistics pooled from observational studies for expression quantitative trait loci and cardiometabolic traits.Participants Data for 47 circulating cytokines in 13 365 individuals from genome-wide association studies, summary statistic data for up to 21 735 individuals on circulating cytokines, summary statistic gene expression data across 49 tissues in 838 individuals, and summary statistic data for up to 1 320 016 individuals on cardiometabolic traits.Interventions Relations between circulating cytokines and cardiovascular, anthropometric, lipid, or glycaemic traits (coronary artery disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes mellitus, body mass index, waist circumference, waist to hip ratio, systolic blood pressure, glycated haemoglobin, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol, total cholesterol, triglycerides, C reactive protein, glucose, fasting insulin, and lifetime smoking).Main outcome methods Genetic instrumental variables that are biologically plausible for the circulating cytokines were generated. The effects of cardiometabolic risk factors on concentrations of circulating cytokines, circulating cytokines on other circulating cytokines, and circulating cytokines on cardiometabolic outcomes were investigated.Results Genetic evidence (mendelian randomisation P0.5) suggested that coronary artery disease risk is increased by higher concentrations of circulating tumour necrosis factor related apoptosis-inducing ligand (TRAIL), interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL1RA), and macrophage colony-stimulating factor (MCSF).Conclusion This study offers insight into inflammatory mediators of cardiometabolic risk factors, cytokine signalling cascades, and effects of circulating cytokines on different cardiometabolic outcomes.

This article presents a theoretical-normative instrument for climate policymakers to address the climate issue from the social studies’ sociological perspective intersected with political ecology. Climate initiatives and policies are on the agenda of various social groups; at the same time, climate policymakers need instruments. Brazil lacks such theoretical-normative instruments. Based on a comprehensive review of the literature on climate ethics from a sociological perspective, this study developed and tested ‘PLANB Index’ in twenty-two Brazilian climate instruments formulated by the state, the private and third sectors, and academia. The index is composed of five modeled analytical categories: plurality in decision-making, energy locality, epistemic and material access, planned naturalness, and generational benefit. The results show that there is a mix of anthropocentric and ecocentric principles in the contents created by multisectoral arrangements – including private superclusters and international state investment funds. ‘PLANB Index’ proved to be an effective tool to identify the guiding principles in Brazilian climate policies; it might also contribute to future climate policymaking. ‘PLANB Index’ is an original contribution because it was not only empirically tested in the Brazilian context but also modeled from a sociological perspective, in close connection to other social science fields, with an emphasis on the ethical-political dimension.

Resumo Este artigo analisa, sob a ótica da ética climática, as políticas de Pagamento por Serviços Ambientais nas dimensões local (PSA em São Paulo) e nacional (Plano Nacional de PSA) e o nexo indissociável entre a ética e a dimensão política brasileira. Essa conexão remete a uma reflexão teórica entre as políticas de PSA e o confronto de princípios éticos, por vezes antagônicos. As práticas observadas nas arenas políticas brasileiras foram avaliadas via análise de conteúdo à luz das seguintes categorias: Pluralidade decisória, Localidade energética, Acesso ao conhecimento e ao recurso material, Naturalização planejada e Benefício geracional (PLANB Index). As análises dos resultados transferem à urgência de políticas climáticas alinhadas a um horizonte ético normativo que reduza as iniquidades sociais e climáticas simultaneamente, as quais devem considerar, em termos de escala, as perspectivas locais e o tempo de implementação em sintonia com os acordos globais multilaterais.

As open access publishing has become more widespread and required by research funders and the research community, the management and monitoring of article processing charges (APCs) have emerged as an important task in research organisations around the world. Within this tendency, a question of the comprehensiveness of organisational APC monitoring has become relevant. This case study demonstrates how the comprehensiveness of in-house APC monitoring can be evaluated using international bibliographic information sources like Web of Science and Scopus, where it is possible to identify the corresponding author, as well as Unpaywall and DOAJ, which contain information about the open access statuses and APCs of articles. Based on study results, it can be assumed that the organisation’s in-house bookkeeping has succeeded in registering 52 percent of APC invoices while 48 percent have not been identified. The results show that the number of unreported publications that have been openly published and whose corresponding author is affiliated with the university is almost equal to those registered in the university’s institutional APC report. The study describes the stages of data collection and processing in order of implementation, which allows a similar review to be feasible in another organisation. At the end of the article, development proposals are presented for both the organisations’ in-house data collection and the content of publishers’ invoices.

Around the globe, natural reserves are depleting consistently. In this undeniable situation, it has become essential to find out substitute resources for the ingredients of cement concrete. To encounter this issue, the present study aims to utilize electronic waste (e-waste) as a substitute source of natural aggregates in the production of concrete. In this experimental-based investigation, shredded e-waste is utilized as a partial replacement of coarse aggregate (CA) in concrete with a constant volume replacement of 30% to study the mechanical, durability, and microstructural features. However, to cope with the poor mechanical efficiency, and brittleness of e-waste concrete, polypropylene fibers (PPF) were utilized in concrete. The testing results show that the mechanical efficiency of concrete was reduced by the replacement of natural CA with e-waste aggregate. Fibrous materials have a better impact on the mechanical efficiency of e-waste concrete. The incorporation of 0.5% dosage of PPF, as by volume fraction, in concrete, resulted in an increment in flexural strength and splitting tensile strength (STS) values of about 42% and 78%, respectively. However, the permeability-based durability parameters (sorptivity coefficient, chloride penetration, and porosity) are inversely influenced by an enhanced dosage of PPF. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that the incorporation of PPF resulted in improved microstructure while the incorporation of e-waste aggregates led to a weak internal matrix. The significance of this research work is the reduction of elevated consumption of natural resources in concrete production accompanied by the improvement in the efficiency of e-waste aggregate concrete by the incorporation of a suitable dosage of fiber reinforcement to make it more practical and sustainable.

Nagari Piobang is the hometown of Haji Piobang, one of the purization figures of Islam in Indonesia. As his homeland, the Piobang people should also inherit the spirit of Haji Piobang's struggle to uphold Islamic teachings. But in reality, people are no longer passionate about religious activities. This action research aims to revive the community's spirit of implementing Sharia in Nagari Piobang, West Sumatra. This research method is Action Based Community Development, which is action research that seeks to revive the spirit of the community by bringing up the glory of its characters in the past. Through this action research, it is hoped that it can regenerate the spirit of the community to uphold sustainable Islamic law with positive activities for the young generation of Piobang. Several programs are designed to spark public interest in religious activities, including Tahfiz Quran and Tahsin. Both of these programs are very popular, considering that this kind of activity has been absent in the community for a long time. The program's sustainability is also guaranteed by special funds from the community, amounting to approximately 30 million, for the fulfillment of infrastructure facilities. The Action Based Community Development activity carried out during Ramadan 1444 H was very satisfying. All success standards designed at the beginning of the activity are achieved with indicators that exceed expectations. Although it had dimmed, it turned out that the spirit of Hajj Piobang did not die in the Nagari Piobang, West Sumatra community. This is evidenced by the revival of religious programs for the younger generation with a form more following the times.

Background: Herein, a newly synthesised mixed ligand artemisinin/zinc (Art/Zn) is chemically characterised and examined against SARS-CoV-2. Methods: The synthesised complex was thoroughly characterised using various spectroscopic methods (FT-IR, UV and XRD). Its surface morphology and chemical purity were investigated using transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis. The synthesised Art/Zn complex was tested for its inhibitory effects against SARS-CoV-2 using inhibitory concentration 50 (IC50) and cytotoxicity concentration 50 (CC50). Results: The results reveal that the Art/Zn complex exhibits a moderate in vitro inhibitory effects against SARS-CoV-2, with a CC50 index of 213.6 μg/ml and an IC50 index of 66.79 μg/ml. Notably, it exhibits the inhibitory effect (IC50 = 66.79 μg/ml) at a very low concentration without any observable cytotoxic effects on host cells (CC50 = 213.6 μg/ml). Its mode of action against SARS-CoV-2 involves inhibiting the viral replication. The predicted target classes that Art/Zn may affect include kinases, which can regulate and inhibit the viral replication and binding to the angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE2) receptor and the main protease inhibitor (MPro), thereby inhibiting the activity of SARS-CoV-2 and proved by the molecular dynamics simulation. Conclusion: We recommend using the Art/Zn complex owing to its moderate inhibitory and antiviral effects against the SARS-CoV-2 with a low cytotoxic effect on host (Vero E6) cells. We suggest conducting further prospective studies to investigate the biological effects of Art/Zn in animal models at different concentrations for testing its clinical efficacy and safety in inhibiting SARS-CoV-2 activities.

Intelligent technology solutions have revolutionized banking and enhanced the overall efficiency of financial institutions worldwide. As banks endeavor to evolve into comprehensive financial service hubs, this study examines the impact of intelligent technology solutions on the efficiency of a sample of Chinese banks and analyzes efficiency trends over time based on two vectors affecting intelligent technology (enterprise-side innovation and consumer-side co-creation). The study builds upon the parameter non-frontier method (ACF) to measure efficiency and examines intelligent technology solutions and channel usage in China from 2007 to 2017. The results indicate that intelligent innovation and consumer co-creation within intelligent channels both have significant positive impacts on banking efficiency. Moreover, these impacts have gradually surpassed traditional banking innovations and consumer participation in traditional self-service channels. In some ways, consumer participation’s positive impact on banking efficiency is even greater than banks’ institutional innovation. Notably, the relative influence of intelligent innovation and consumer participation on bank efficiency has shifted, and customer participation now occupies a more important position. Based on these findings, banks would be well advised to develop intelligent technology solutions along two paths: enhancing institutional technology and supporting consumer participation.

Germination of Ceratopteris richardii spores is initiated by light and terminates 3-4 days later with the emergence of a rhizoid. Early studies documented that the photoreceptor for initiating this response is phytochrome. However, completion of germination requires additional light input. If no further light stimulus is given after phytochrome photoactivation, the spores do not germinate. Here we show that a crucial second light reaction is required, and its function is to activate and sustain photosynthesis. Even in the presence of light, blocking photosynthesis with DCMU after phytochrome photoactivation blocks germination. In addition, RT-PCR showed that transcripts for different phytochromes are expressed in spores in darkness, and the photoactivation of these phytochromes results in the increased transcription of messages encoding chlorophyll a/b binding proteins. The lack of chlorophyll-binding protein transcripts in unirradiated spores and their slow accumulation makes it unlikely that photosynthesis is required for the initial light reaction. This conclusion is supported by the observation that the transient presence of DCMU, only during the initial light reaction, had no effect on germination. Additionally, the [ATP] in Ceratopteris richardii spores increased coincidentally with the length of light treatment during germination. Overall, these results support the conclusion that two distinct light reactions are required for the germination of Ceratopteris richardii spores.

Pulse profile modeling (PPM), the technique used to infer mass, radius, and geometric parameters for rotation-powered millisecond pulsars using data from the Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER), relies on relativistic ray-tracing of thermal X-ray photons from hot spots on the neutron star surface to the observer. To verify our ray-tracing codes we have in the past conducted cross tests for simple hot spot geometries, focusing primarily on the implementation of the spacetime model. In this paper, we present verification for test problems that explore the more complex hot spot geometries that are now being employed in the NICER PPM analyses. We conclude that the accuracy of our computed waveforms is in general sufficiently high for analyses of current NICER data sets. We have however identified some extreme configurations where extra care may be needed.

Tokamak à configuration variable (TCV), recently celebrating 30 years of near-continual operation, continues in its missions to advance outstanding key physics and operational scenario issues for ITER and the design of future power plants such as DEMO. The main machine heating systems and operational changes are first described. Then follow five sections: plasma scenarios. ITER Base-Line (IBL) discharges, triangularity studies together with X3 heating and N2 seeding. Edge localised mode suppression, with a high radiation region near the X-point is reported with N _2 injection with and without divertor baffles in a snowflake configuration. Negative triangularity (NT) discharges attained record, albeit transient, β _N ∼ 3 with lower turbulence, higher low-Z impurity transport, vertical stability and density limits and core transport better than the IBL. Positive triangularity L-Mode linear and saturated ohmic confinement confinement saturation, often-correlated with intrinsic toroidal rotation reversals, was probed for D, H and He working gases. H-mode confinement and pedestal studies were extended to low collisionality with electron cyclotron heating obtaining steady state electron iternal transport barrier with neutral beam heating (NBH), and NBH driven H-mode configurations with off-axis co-electron cyclotron current drive. Fast particle physics. The physics of disruptions, runaway electrons and fast ions (FIs) was developed using near-full current conversion at disruption with recombination thresholds characterised for impurity species (Ne, Ar, Kr). Different flushing gases (D2, H2) and pathways to trigger a benign disruption were explored. The 55 kV NBH II generated a rich Alfvénic spectrum modulating the FI fas ion loss detector signal. NT configurations showed less toroidal Alfvén excitation activity preferentially affecting higher FI pitch angles. Scrape-off layer and edge physics. gas puff imaging systems characterised turbulent plasma ejection for several advanced divertor configurations, including NT. Combined diagnostic array divertor state analysis in detachment conditions was compared to modelling revealing an importance for molecular processes. Divertor physics. Internal gas baffles diversified to include shorter/longer structures on the high and/or low field side to probe compressive efficiency. Divertor studies concentrated upon mitigating target power, facilitating detachment and increasing the radiated power fraction employing alternative divertor geometries, optimised X-point radiator regimes and long-legged configurations. Smaller-than-expected improvements with total flux expansion were better modelled when including parallel flows. Peak outer target heat flux reduction was achieved (>50%) for high flux-expansion geometries, maintaining core performance ( H _98 > 1). A reduction in target heat loads and facilitated detachment access at lower core densities is reported. Real-time control. TCV’s real-time control upgrades employed MIMO gas injector control of stable, robust, partial detachment and plasma β feedback control avoiding neoclassical tearing modes with plasma confinement changes. Machine-learning enhancements include trajectory tracking disruption proximity and avoidance as well as a first-of-its-kind reinforcement learning-based controller for the plasma equilibrium trained entirely on a free-boundary simulator. Finally, a short description of TCV’s immediate future plans will be given.

We report an updated analysis of the radius, mass, and heated surface regions of the massive pulsar PSR J0740+6620 using Neutron Star Interior Composition Explorer (NICER) data from 2018 September 21 to 2022 April 21, a substantial increase in data set size compared to previous analyses. Using a tight mass prior from radio-timing measurements and jointly modeling the new NICER data with XMM-Newton data, the inferred equatorial radius and gravitational mass are ${12.49}_{-0.88}^{+1.28}$ km and ${2.073}_{-0.069}^{+0.069}$ M _⊙ , respectively, each reported as the posterior credible interval bounded by the 16% and 84% quantiles, with an estimated systematic error ≲ 0.1 km. This result was obtained using the best computationally feasible sampler settings providing a strong radius lower limit but a slightly more uncertain radius upper limit. The inferred radius interval is also close to the $R={12.76}_{-1.02}^{+1.49}$ km obtained by Dittmann et al., when they require the radius to be less than 16 km as we do. The results continue to disfavor very soft equations of state for dense matter, with R < 11.15 km for this high-mass pulsar excluded at the 95% probability. The results do not depend significantly on the assumed cross-calibration uncertainty between NICER and XMM-Newton. Using simulated data that resemble the actual observations, we also show that our pipeline is capable of recovering parameters for the inferred models reported in this paper.

Experiments on ASDEX Upgrade (AUG) in 2021 and 2022 have addressed a number of critical issues for ITER and EU DEMO. A major objective of the AUG programme is to shed light on the underlying physics of confinement, stability, and plasma exhaust in order to allow reliable extrapolation of results obtained on present day machines to these reactor-grade devices. Concerning pedestal physics, the mitigation of edge localised modes (ELMs) using resonant magnetic perturbations (RMPs) was found to be consistent with a reduction of the linear peeling-ballooning stability threshold due to the helical deformation of the plasma. Conversely, ELM suppression by RMPs is ascribed to an increased pedestal transport that keeps the plasma away from this boundary. Candidates for this increased transport are locally enhanced turbulence and a locked magnetic island in the pedestal. The enhanced D-alpha (EDA) and quasi-continuous exhaust (QCE) regimes have been established as promising ELM-free scenarios. Here, the pressure gradient at the foot of the H-mode pedestal is reduced by a quasi-coherent mode, consistent with violation of the high-n ballooning mode stability limit there. This is suggestive that the EDA and QCE regimes have a common underlying physics origin. In the area of transport physics, full radius models for both L- and H-modes have been developed. These models predict energy confinement in AUG better than the commonly used global scaling laws, representing a large step towards the goal of predictive capability. A new momentum transport analysis framework has been developed that provides access to the intrinsic torque in the plasma core. In the field of exhaust, the X-Point Radiator (XPR), a cold and dense plasma region on closed flux surfaces close to the X-point, was described by an analytical model that provides an understanding of its formation as well as its stability, i.e., the conditions under which it transitions into a deleterious MARFE with the potential to result in a disruptive termination. With the XPR close to the divertor target, a new detached divertor concept, the compact radiative divertor, was developed. Here, the exhaust power is radiated before reaching the target, allowing close proximity of the X-point to the target. No limitations by the shallow field line angle due to the large flux expansion were observed, and sufficient compression of neutral density was demonstrated. With respect to the pumping of non-recycling impurities, the divertor enrichment was found to mainly depend on the ionisation energy of the impurity under consideration. In the area of MHD physics, analysis of the hot plasma core motion in sawtooth crashes showed good agreement with nonlinear 2-fluid simulations. This indicates that the fast reconnection observed in these events is adequately described including the pressure gradient and the electron inertia in the parallel Ohm’s law. Concerning disruption physics, a shattered pellet injection system was installed in collaboration with the ITER International Organisation. Thanks to the ability to vary the shard size distribution independently of the injection velocity, as well as its impurity admixture, it was possible to tailor the current quench rate, which is an important requirement for future large devices such as ITER. Progress was also made modelling the force reduction of VDEs induced by massive gas injection on AUG. The H-mode density limit was characterised in terms of safe operational space with a newly developed active feedback control method that allowed the stability boundary to be probed several times within a single discharge without inducing a disruptive termination. Regarding integrated operation scenarios, the role of density peaking in the confinement of the ITER baseline scenario (high plasma current) was clarified. The usual energy confinement scaling ITER98( p,y ) does not capture this effect, but the more recent H20 scaling does, highlighting again the importance of developing adequate physics based models. Advanced tokamak scenarios, aiming at large non-inductive current fraction due to non-standard profiles of the safety factor in combination with high normalised plasma pressure were studied with a focus on their access conditions. A method to guide the approach of the targeted safety factor profiles was developed, and the conditions for achieving good confinement were clarified. Based on this, two types of advanced scenarios (‘hybrid’ and ‘elevated’ q -profile) were established on AUG and characterised concerning their plasma performance.

The DIII-D tokamak has elucidated crucial physics and developed projectable solutions for ITER and fusion power plants in the key areas of core performance, boundary heat and particle transport, and integrated scenario operation, with closing the core-edge integration knowledge gap being the overarching mission. New experimental validation of high-fidelity, multi-channel, non-linear gyrokinetic turbulent transport models for ITER provides strong confidence it will achieve Q ⩾ 10 operation. Experiments identify options for easing H-mode access in hydrogen, and give new insight into the isotopic dependence of transport and confinement. Analysis of 2,1 islands in unoptimized low-torque IBS demonstration discharges suggests their onset time occurs randomly in the constant β phase, most often triggered by non-linear 3-wave coupling, thus identifying an NTM seeding mechanism to avoid. Pure deuterium SPI for disruption mitigation is shown to provide favorable slow cooling, but poor core assimilation, suggesting paths for improved SPI on ITER. At the boundary, measured neutral density and ionization source fluxes are strongly poloidally asymmetric, implying a 2D treatment is needed to model pedestal fuelling. Detailed measurements of pedestal and SOL quantities and impurity charge state radiation in detached divertors has validated edge fluid modelling and new self-consistent ‘pedestal-to-divertor’ integrated modeling that can be used to optimize reactors. New feedback adaptive ELM control minimizes confinement reduction, and RMP ELM suppression with sustained high core performance was obtained for the first time with the outer strike point in a W-coated, compact and unpumped small-angle slot divertor. Advances have been made in integrated operational scenarios for ITER and power plants. Wide pedestal intrinsically ELM-free QH-modes are produced with more reactor-relevant conditions, Low torque IBS with W-equivalent radiators can exhibit predator-prey oscillations in T _e and radiation which need control. High- β _P scenarios with q _min > 2, q _95 –7.9, β _N > 4, β _T –3.3% and H _98y2 > 1.5 are sustained with high density ( $\bar n$ = 7E19 m ^−3 , f _G –1) for 6 τ _E , improving confidence in steady-state tokamak reactors. Diverted NT plasmas achieve high core performance with a non-ELMing edge, offering a possible highly attractive core-edge integration solution for reactors.

Within the 9th European Framework programme, since 2021 EUROfusion is operating five tokamaks under the auspices of a single Task Force called ‘Tokamak Exploitation’. The goal is to benefit from the complementary capabilities of each machine in a coordinated way and help in developing a scientific output scalable to future largre machines. The programme of this Task Force ensures that ASDEX Upgrade, MAST-U, TCV, WEST and JET (since 2022) work together to achieve the objectives of Missions 1 and 2 of the EUROfusion Roadmap: i) demonstrate plasma scenarios that increase the success margin of ITER and satisfy the requirements of DEMO and, ii) demonstrate an integrated approach that can handle the large power leaving ITER and DEMO plasmas. The Tokamak Exploitation task force has therefore organized experiments on these two missions with the goal to strengthen the physics and operational basis for the ITER baseline scenario and for exploiting the recent plasma exhaust enhancements in all four devices (PEX: Plasma EXhaust) for exploring the solution for handling heat and particle exhaust in ITER and develop the conceptual solutions for DEMO. The ITER Baseline scenario has been developed in a similar way in ASDEX Upgrade, TCV and JET. Key risks for ITER such as disruptions and run-aways have been also investigated in TCV, ASDEX Upgrade and JET. Experiments have explored successfully different divertor configurations (standard, super-X, snowflakes) in MAST-U and TCV and studied tungsten melting in WEST and ASDEX Upgrade. The input from the smaller devices to JET has also been proven successful to set-up novel control schemes on disruption avoidance and detachment.

Superconducting (SC) tokamak JT-60SA plays an essential role in fusion research and development by supporting and complementing the ITER project, providing directions to the DEMO design activity and fostering next generation scientists and engineers. Since the short circuit incident at the terminal joints of equilibrium field coil #1 during the integrated commissioning (IC) in March 2021, both EU and JA implementing agencies (IAs) have examined how to ensure safe operation of JT-60SA by mitigating the risk of possible discharge occurrence inside the cryostat. Based on the experience of the global Paschen tests, the IAs have established a strategy of risk mitigation measures, which is a combination of (i) reinforcement of insulation, (ii) avoiding unnecessary voltage application to the coil systems and (iii) immediate de-energization of the coils when deteriorated vacuum conditions are detected. Thanks to the considerable efforts of the Integrated Project Team members, the IC restarted in May 2023. After confirmation of the SC state of the coil systems (TF, EF and CS), the coil energization test and the plasma operation phase 1 (OP-1) started. The first plasma was successfully achieved on 23 October 2023 with a limited value of voltage and current applied to the coils. The plasma configuration control was also confirmed with low plasma current and low auxiliary heating power conditions. Based on the IO–F4E–QST collaboration, activities of JT-60SA have been shared with the IO and provided an important lesson for ITER assembly and commissioning, and will provide an outstanding contribution to fusion research at large. After OP-1, maintenance & enhancement phase 1 (M/E-1) starts from January 2024, in which in-vessel components are installed, and heating and diagnostic systems are extensively upgraded to allow a high power heating experiment planned in OP-2. In order to make the best use of JT-60SA, a newly organized JT-60SA experiment team will refine the research plan for the future high heating power operation phase.

In 2021 JET exploited its unique capabilities to operate with T and D–T fuel with an ITER-like Be/W wall (JET-ILW). This second major JET D–T campaign (DTE2), after DTE1 in 1997, represented the culmination of a series of JET enhancements—new fusion diagnostics, new T injection capabilities, refurbishment of the T plant, increased auxiliary heating, in-vessel calibration of 14 MeV neutron yield monitors—as well as significant advances in plasma theory and modelling in the fusion community. DTE2 was complemented by a sequence of isotope physics campaigns encompassing operation in pure tritium at high T-NBI power. Carefully conducted for safe operation with tritium, the new T and D–T experiments used 1 kg of T (vs 100 g in DTE1), yielding the most fusion reactor relevant D–T plasmas to date and expanding our understanding of isotopes and D–T mixture physics. Furthermore, since the JET T and DTE2 campaigns occurred almost 25 years after the last major D–T tokamak experiment, it was also a strategic goal of the European fusion programme to refresh operational experience of a nuclear tokamak to prepare staff for ITER operation. The key physics results of the JET T and DTE2 experiments, carried out within the EUROfusion JET1 work package, are reported in this paper. Progress in the technological exploitation of JET D–T operations, development and validation of nuclear codes, neutronic tools and techniques for ITER operations carried out by EUROfusion (started within the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme and continuing under the Horizon Europe FP) are reported in (Litaudon et al Nucl. Fusion accepted), while JET experience on T and D–T operations is presented in (King et al Nucl. Fusion submitted).

In the JET DTE2 campaign a new method was successfully tested to detect the heating of bulk electrons by α-particles, using the dynamic response of the electron temperature T _e to the modulation of ion cyclotron resonance heating (ICRH). A fundamental deuterium (D) ICRH scheme was applied to a tritium-rich hybrid plasma with D-neutral beam injection (NBI). The modulation of the ion temperature T _i and of the ICRH accelerated deuterons leads to modulated α -heating with a large delay with respect to other modulated electron heating terms. A significant phase delay of ∼40° is measured between central T _e and T _i , which can only be explained by α -particle heating. Integrated modelling using different models for ICRH absorption and ICRH/NBI interaction reproduces the effect qualitatively. Best agreement with experiment is obtained with the European Transport Solver/Heating and Current Drive workflow.

The present study aims to fill a gap in the literature on the estimation of the bond strength of fiber reinforced polymer sheets bonded to concrete, via the externally bonded reinforcement on grooves (EBROG) technique, employing the curve-fitting on existing datasets in the literature and the methodology of Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs). Therefore, a dataset of 39 experimental results derived from EBROG technique is collected from the literature. A mathematical equation for the bond strength of FRP sheets applied on concrete via the EBROG technique was suggested using curve-fitting and general regression. The proposed mathematical equation is compared and validated with experimental results. The developed ANN model was constructed after testing diverse hidden layers and neurons to find the optimal predictions. The validation of the model is carried out using the experimental results and a statistical analysis is applied to assess the proposed mathematical equation and the proposed ANN model. Furthermore, a parametric study using the ANN model was also performed to investigate the influence of various factors on the bond strength of FRP sheets bonded to concrete. The parametric study proves that the bond strength increases with increasing the tensile stiffness per width, the FRP sheet width, and the concrete compressive strength; however, the effect of the Groove’s width and depth is found to be not monotonous.

The new diprotic ligand 3,5-di-tert-butylsalicylaldehyde 4-ethyl-3-thiosemicarbazone, abbreviated H2(3,5-t-Bu2)-sal4eT, exists as the thio-keto tautomer and adopts the E-configuration with respect to the imine double bond, as evidenced by single-crystal X-ray analysis and corroborated by spectroscopic characterisation. Upon treatment with Cu(OAc)2·H2O in the presence of either 2,9-dimethyl-1,10-phenanthroline (2,9-Me2-phen) or 1,10-phenanthroline (phen) as a co-ligand in MeOH, this thiosemicarbazone undergoes conformational transformation (relative donor-atom orientations: syn,anti → syn,syn) concomitantly with tautomerisation and double deprotonation to afford the ternary copper(II) complexes [Cu{(3,5-t-Bu2)-sal4eT}(2,9-Me2-phen)] (1) and [Cu2{3,5-t-Bu2)-sal4eT}2(phen)] (2). Crystallographic elucidation has revealed that complex 1 is a centrosymmetric dimer of mononuclear copper(II) complex molecules brought about by intermolecular H-bonding. The coordination geometry at the copper(II) centre is best described as distorted square pyramidal in accordance with the trigonality index (τ = 0.14). The co-ligand adopts an axial–equatorial coordination mode; hence, there is a disparity between its two Cu–N coordinate bonds arising from weakening of the apical one as a consequence of the tetragonal distortion. The axial X-band ESR spectrum of complex 1 is consistent with retention of this structure in solution. Complex 2 is a centrosymmetric dimer of dinuclear copper(II) complex molecules exhibiting intermolecular H-bonding and π-π-stacking interactions. The two copper(II) centres, which are 4.8067(18) Å apart and bridged by the thio-enolate nitrogen of the quadridentate thiosemicarbazonate ligand, display two different coordination geometries, one distorted square planar (τ4 = 0.082) and the other distorted square pyramidal (τ5 = 0.33). Such dinuclear copper(II) thiosemicarbazone complexes, which are crystallographically characterised, are extremely rare. In vitro, complexes 1 and 2 outperform cisplatin as antiproliferative agents in terms of potency and selectivity towards HeLa and MCF-7 cancer cell lines.

Machine learning-based classification algorithms allow communication and computing (2C) task offloading from the end devices to the edge computing network servers. In this paper, we consider task classification based on the hybrid k-means and k′-nearest neighbors algorithms. Moreover, we examine the poisoning attacks on such ML algorithms, namely noise-like jamming and targeted data feature falsification, and their impact on the effectiveness of 2C task allocation. Then, we also present two anomaly detection methods using noise training and the silhouette score test to detect the poisoned samples and mitigate their impact. Our simulation results show that these attacks have a fatal effect on classification in feature areas where the decision boundary is unclear. They also demonstrate the effectiveness of our countermeasures against the considered attacks.

In 2019 the NICER collaboration published the first mass and radius inferred for PSR J0030+0451, thanks to NICER observations, and consequent constraints on the equation of state characterizing dense matter. Two independent analyses found a mass of ∼1.3–1.4 M _⊙ and a radius of ∼13 km. They also both found that the hot spots were all located on the same hemisphere, opposite to the observer, and that at least one of them had a significantly elongated shape. Here we reanalyze, in greater detail, the same NICER data set, incorporating the effects of an updated NICER response matrix and using an upgraded analysis framework. We expand the adopted models and also jointly analyze XMM-Newton data, which enables us to better constrain the fraction of observed counts coming from PSR J0030+0451. Adopting the same models used in previous publications, we find consistent results, although with more stringent inference requirements. We also find a multimodal structure in the posterior surface. This becomes crucial when XMM-Newton data is accounted for. Including the corresponding constraints disfavors the main solutions found previously, in favor of the new and more complex models. These have inferred masses and radii of ∼[1.4 M _⊙ , 11.5 km] and ∼[1.7 M _⊙ , 14.5 km], depending on the assumed model. They display configurations that do not require the two hot spots generating the observed X-rays to be on the same hemisphere, nor to show very elongated features, and point instead to the presence of temperature gradients and the need to account for them.

A future circular collider (FCC) with a center-of-mass energy of 100 TeV and a circumference of around 100 km, or an energy upgrade of the LHC (HE-LHC) to 27 TeV require bending magnets providing 16 T in a 50-mm aperture. Several development programs for these magnets, based on Nb3Sn technology, are being pursued in Europe and in the U.S. In these programs, cos-theta, block-type, common-coil, and canted-cos-theta magnets are explored; first model magnets are under manufacture; limits on conductor stress levels are studied; and a conductor with enhanced characteristics is developed. This paper summarizes and discusses the status, plans, and preliminary results of these programs.

Abstract Aims The purpose was to examine the prevalence and determinants of self‐reported eating problems in old home care clients, screened separately by a clinical nutritionist and a dental hygienist. Methods and Results The data came from the Nutrition, Oral Health and Medication (NutOrMed) study, the participants of which were ≥75‐year‐old home care clients living in Finland. The structured interviews were conducted at the participants' (n = 250) homes. Of the participants, 29% reported poor appetite, 20% had problems with chewing, and 14% had problems with swallowing when asked by a clinical nutritionist. Additionally, 18% reported oral health‐related eating problems when asked by a dental hygienist. Participants with continuous xerostomia (odds ratio [OR]: 3.0, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 1.0–9.0) or poor self‐reported oral health (OR: 4.3, 95% CI: 1.4–13.0) had a higher risk for problems with chewing when asked by a clinical nutritionist. Edentulous participants (OR: 3.5, 95% CI: 1.2–10.9) and participants with toothache or problems with dentures (OR: 10.3, 95% CI: 4.0–26.0) had a higher risk for oral health‐related eating problems when asked by a dental hygienist. Conclusion Eating problems are common in older adults, and interprofessional collaboration is required for their identification and alleviation.

Objective Sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) is a commercial plant that extracts more than 70% of the sugar produced worldwide. Salinity in many arid and semi-arid regions of the world is considered as a major problem and limiting factor for growth, quality and yield of crops including sugarcane. Chromosome manipulation of the plant species is one of the most powerful methods of plant breeding because of its effect on some morphological, physiological and genetic variation. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of different levels of colchicine mutagen on changes in DNA content and to investigate the effect of increasing DNA content on the transcription rate of catalase gene. Materials and methods In this experiment, sugarcane seedlings were treated with colchicine (concentrations of 0, 100, 200 and 400 mg / L) in two CP48 and CP69 cultivars for 8, 24 and 48 hours, respectively. The plants were then examined for morphological and physiological characteristics. Plants were then exposed to saline stress (200 mM NaCl) and normal. After applying stress, plants with probable polyploidy were examined for genetic content using flow cytometry. Also, to investigate the expression pattern of Catalase gene (CAT2), leaf sampling was done 24 h after salinity stress from control and stressed plants. Results The results showed that viability, height and density of stomata decreased with increasing colchicine concentration and duration of treatment. However, stomata size increased with increasing colchicine concentration and duration of treatment and chlorophyll and photosynthesis increased with increasing duration of treatment. The results showed that the expression of this gene was significantly increased in both CP48 and CP69 cultivars under salinity stress. The expression of this gene was increased in CP69 cultivar treated with colchicine and this increase was significant at 200 mg / L colchicine. While in CP48 cultivar the effect of colchicine treatment was not significant. Conclusions Based on the above results, it can be concluded that increasing the genetic content of sugarcane can improve salinity resistance.

During the last decade, the constant improvement in computational capacity led to the development of the first limited-area, kilometer-scale ensemble prediction systems (L-EPS). The COSMO-D2 EPS (now ICON-D2) was the operational L-EPS at the German weather service (DWD) and has a spatial resolution of around 2.2 km. This grid resolution allows large scale, deep convective processes such as thunderstorms or heavy showers to be handled explicitly, without any physical parametrization. Special parameters involving both clouds microphysics and large scale lifting – such as the Lightning Potential Index, or LPI – have also been developed in order to try to bring the forecasting of deep convection and therefore also of lightning activity to a new level of spatial accuracy. With such high resolution forecasts comes however also a higher error potential, at least for gridpoint-verification. The use of this high resolution setup in an ensemble prediction system might however bring huge benefits in terms of skill and predictability. This work is a preliminary attempt to apply innovative verification approaches such as the dispersion Fractions Skill Score (dFSS) and the ensemble-SAL (eSAL) to the LPI in the COSMO-D2 EPS. Aim of this work is to assess the relationship between the ensemble error and the ensemble dispersion at different spatial scales. For the summer months 2019, the COSMO-D2 EPS shows a general tendency to overestimate the predictability (underestimate the ensemble spread) of the lightning events, though the spread-error relationship varies greatly for different forecast lead times. With the help of the dFSS, one can also express this relationship in terms of skillful scales. On average, the system produces a useful forecast during the afternoon hours for horizontal scales of around 200 km. However, the ensemble members show an average horizontal dispersion that amounts to around half of that value, at more or less 100 km.

Abstract The gas transport infrastructure is frequently localized in areas subjected to anthropogenic movements and strains. The potential impact of the ground movements on the gas pipeline in the aspect of its damage can be properly assessed e.g. by predicting strains, taking into account the causes of terrain movement. On the other hand, the hazard is also related to technological factors like design of the pipeline. The presented method is based on artificial intelligence methods allowing for evaluation of probability of failure risk in gas supply pipeline sections. The Mamdani fuzzy inference was used in this study. Uncertainty of variables characterizing the resistance of the gas pipeline and predicted continuous deformations of ground surface were accounted for in the model by using triangular-shaped membership functions. Based on the surface deformations and gas pipeline resistance and the inference model one can make prediction when the gas pipeline is hazarded. There were estimated two the most hazarded parts for two pipelines. We proved that the proposed model can contribute to the protection, costoptimization of the designed pipelines and to the repairs of the existing gas pipelines.
