Abstract

The study of heavy nucleus acoustic (HNA) periodic and solitary waves in degenerate relativistic magneto-rotating quantum plasma (DRMQP) composed of relativistic degenerate electrons, light nuclei and non-degenerate mobile heavy nuclei is presented. Reductive perturbation technique is adopted to derive the Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) type equation for studying the characteristics of HNA periodic waves. Further energy balance equation is derived by using Sagdeev potential approach and HNA cnoidal wave solution is determined. Only positive potential nonlinear periodic and solitary structures are observed. The impact of number density ratio, charge density, magnetic field strength and rotational effect is analyzed on the characteristics of HNA cnoidal and solitary waves. The results of this investigation may shed light on the salient features of different nonlinear HNA waves in different astrophysical environments, especially in white dwarfs. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

An investigation of nonlinear dust-acoustic cnoidal waves in a magnetized quantum dusty plasma consisting of inertial dust, inertialess electrons and ions is presented. The Korteweg–de Vries (KdV) equation is obtained by employing reductive perturbation technique and analytical solution of KdV equation is derived by employing the Sagdeev pseudopotential approach. Numerical analysis of the solution is performed to study the characteristics of the dust-acoustic cnoidal waves. In this study, positive (negative) potential dust-acoustic cnoidal waves are observed for the case of positive (negative) dust grains. The influence of various parameters such as quantum diffraction parameter of electrons and ions, magnetic field strength, obliqueness, concentration of ions and Fermi temperature (electrons and ions) has been studied. In the limiting case, dust-acoustic cnoidal wave solution is found to reduce to solitary wave solution. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

286. Signaling activated by nucleolar localised Notch4 Intracellular Domain underlies protection from genomic damage

Abstract

The assembly of signaling hierarchies and their spatiotemporal organization together, contribute to diverse signaling outcomes. This is evident in the Notch pathway, which regulates an array of cellular processes, despite a small number of core components. Here, we describe a Notch4 activated signaling cascade, dependent on the nucleolar localization of the Notch4 Intracellular Domain (NIC4), that protects cells from genotoxic damage. Localization was assessed by immune-staining for endogenous Notch4 and visualization by confocal microscopy, in breast cancer cell lines. Live-cell, imaging-based, biophysical analysis of NIC4-GFP expressing cells, indicated unhindered mobility between the nucleolus and nucleoplasm and a stable nucleolar pool of NIC4-GFP. RNAi-mediated ablations, coupled with analysis of recombinant forms of NIC4 with modifications of its nucleolar localization sequence, confirmed nucleolar localization and identified the nucleolar proteins, Nucleolin and Fibrillarin, as key intermediates in the NIC4-activated signaling cascade. The transcriptional control of ribosome biogenesis (47s and 45s pre-rRNA transcription), emerged as another unexpected consequence of the subcellular distribution of NIC4. Taken together, this study describes intrinsic features of NIC4 that confer spatial flexibility and expand the repertoire of Notch4 signaling.

Abstract

The local structure of La(Fei(1-x)Mn(x))AsO, showing suppression of long-range magnetic order by Mn-substitution, has been studied. Extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements at As K-edge and Fe K-edge are used to probe the atomic correlations in the FeAs-layer. We have found that both Fe-As and Fe-Fe bondlengths tend to increase with increasing Mn concentration. The associated mean square relative displacements (MSRD) reveal a gradual increase indicating increased local disorder in the FeAs-layer with Mn content. The results reveal that the FeAs-layer thickness, measured by the As-height (h(AS),) from the Fe-Fe plane, is correlated with the Neel temperature. Furthermore, Fe K beta X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) shows a sharp increase in the Fe local magnetic moment with Mn substitution. The importance of the FeAs layer thickness in describing magnetic correlations in La(Fe1-xMnx)AsO is discussed.

Abstract

We have studied the electronic structure of Eu3F4Bi2S4 using a combination of Eu L3-edge x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and space-resolved angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES). From the Eu L3-edge XAS, we have found that the Eu in this system is in mixed valence state with coexistence of Eu2+/Eu3+. The bulk charge doping was estimated to be ∼0.3 per Bi site in Eu3F4Bi2S4, which corresponds to the nominal x in a typical REO1−xFxBiS2 system (RE: rare-earth elements). From the space-resolved ARPES, we have ruled out the possibility of any microscale phase separation of Eu valence in the system. Using a microfocused beam we have observed the band structure as well as the Fermi surface that appeared similar to other compounds of this family with disconnected rectangular electronlike pockets around the X point. The Luttinger volume analysis gives the effective carrier to be 0.23 electrons per Bi site in Eu3F4Bi2S4, indicating that the system is likely to be in the underdoped region of its superconducting phase diagram.
