The effects of β-carotene and vitamin A on progesterone production by cultured granulosa cells of cows were studied. The granulosa cells were isolated from medium-sized follicles (8-10mm) by the needle aspiration. When granulosa cells were treated with 50μg/dl of β-carotene for 4 days, progesterone production was increased slightly. luminescence and its excitation spectra are investigated on TlBr and TlCl single crystals. The luminescence spectra of both halides consist of three characteristic emissions, a broad emission band and two kinds of narrow emission lines. The highest energy emission line is ascribed to the resonance emission of the direct exciton. The low energy threshold of the excitation spectra is interpreted as the contribution from the indirect interband transition, In TlBr, an oscillatory phonon structure is observed above this threshold, from which the indirect-exciton energy is estimated to be 2.630 ±0.005 eV. A similar edge in TlCl is supposed to lie around 3.20 eV. The sharp emission lines appearing below this indirect edge are attributable to the radiative recombination of the indirect exciton bound to some impurities. Discussions are presented on the radiative decay of these direct and indirect excitons in thallous halides.

ビーグル犬における血中遊離テストステロン(T)濃度の動態について検討し,以下の結果を得た。1.雄成犬の血中遊離T値(平均391±37Pg/ml)は雌成犬の値(平均47±16Pg/ml)よりも有意に高い値を示した。2.雄成犬の血中遊離T値は年間を通して有意な変化を示さなかった。3.雄イヌの血中遊離T値は幼若期では低値を示し,性成熟とともに増加し,性成熟に達した1年以降10年までは高値を持続することが明らかとなった。

• A 20-year-old man had systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and a skin eruption that consisted of pruritic, tense, clear, bullous, and vesicular lesions. Histopathological examination of the bullous lesions disclosed papillary microabscesses of neutrophils and subepidermal bulla formation. Direct immunofluorescence microscopy demonstrated linear bandlike depositions of IgA and IgG at the basement membrane zone in both peribullous and normal-appearing skin. By immunoelectron microscopy, the IgA and IgG deposits were found beneath the basal lamina, extending beyond the anchoring fibril zone into the deeper portion of the dermis. The immunoelectron microscopic features supported the conclusion that this patient had SLE with vesiculobullous lesions rather than SLE concurrent with dermatitis herpetiformis, linear IgA bullous dermatosis, or bullous pemphigoid. Oral dapsone therapy gave the patient dramatic relief from the cutaneous lesions, although he was unable to tolerate extended treatment with the drug. ( Arch Dermatol 1984;120:1497-1501)

We propose and demonstrate a novel scheme for the generation of polarization entanglement from spatially correlated photon pairs generated by parametric down-conversion. Using the state, we also demonstrate the violation of Bell's inequality.

Polarization entanglement of photons provides a superior environment to demonstrate quantum info-communication protocols. Thus far, several methods using parametric down-conversion process have been realized to generate polarization-entangled photon pairs. In this report, we propose a novel method to generate polarization entanglement from spatially correlated photon pairs and demonstrate its experimental verification.

This paper describes 5 1/4-in. high track-access performance magneto-optic disk drive. The drive employs a split optical system with a swing-arm actuator, the inertia of which is 160 g cm2(equivalent to a linear actuator of 10 g weight). An avarage seek time was estimated less than 35ms in the absence of latency. It is noticeable that both its mechanism and control systems are very simple.
