The value of the human capital as well as sociocultural specificities considered by the Russian venture company and Institute of national projects to be an important factors of technological development of the society and individual innovation activity. Despite existing demand for people creative, tolerant to uncertainty and able to be productive in the hard and unstable VUCA-world, there are problematic tendency in crisis to reject creative potential in favor of more pragmatic or hedonistic lifestyle. In the context of development of creative life path, it’s important to study high school student’s attitude towards creative person. The purpose of this research is to identify peculiarities of the role identification and tolerance towards different types of creative people among high school students. The sample consisted of 66 high school students from Chelyabinsk city. For the research purpose we used «Role Relations between Social Subjects and Creative Personalities» (RRSSCP) methodology, developed by Gryazeva-Dobshinskaya V.G., Bakunchik N.Y., Glukhova V.A., Maltseva A.S., based on Kelly's Repertory Grid Technique. Results calculated through method of factor analysis.Following peculiarities of high school student’s tolerance towards creative person were identified: high level of tolerance towards the role of «Creator» in organizational structure and towards those creative people, who either show leadership potential or already hold high-status positions; identification of own self with creative persons with low levels of intolerance.The analyzed data shows necessity of development of vocational guidance programs and trainings, focused on development of attractive images of creative person with differential life strategies.

The Repertory Grid Technique (RGT) has been applied within the software engineering domain to investigate a variety of topics. These include topics relating to architectural knowledge, team level tacit knowledge, and project success mechanisms. The technique is based on Personal Construct Theory (PCT) and is claimed to be suitable for gaining a deep understanding of peoples’ perspectives on a topic. The essence of RGT is a consideration of similarities and differences, for example, between different project instances. In this paper, we describe a case study in which we applied the technique with the aim of eliciting practitioners’ viewpoints on contextual factors for situated software practices. We interviewed twelve practitioners in three organisations. We found that the RGT approach was challenging to implement for several reasons. Participants had difficulty in choosing specific instances of a software practice, identifying similarities and differences tended to be problematic and causal pathways were not always easy to establish. Our contributions are the highlighting of the challenges that may occur when implementing this technique, an analysis of the issues encountered and some possible mitigation approaches. These may serve as support for SE researchers considering an RGT based study.

Оценка человеком самого себя как морального субъекта представляется важным предиктором социального поведения индивида, его установок и качества жизни, а также позволяет пролить свет на механизмы конструирования, поддержания и защиты моральной Я-схемы как особого вида социальной идентичности. В рамках двухэтапного эксперимента нами были разработаны и апробированы инструменты для измерения моральной самооценки: шкала моральных конструктов с использованием техники репертуарных решеток в идиографической (ШМК-И) и конвенциональной (ШМК-К) версии, заведомо адаптированные для русскоязычных респондентов. Обнаружены значимые связи в предсказанном направлении обеих версий инструмента с подшкалой морального самоодобрения, а также с теоретически релевантными конструктами (общая самооценка, удовлетворенность жизнью, моральные эмоции вины и стыда), что служит свидетельством в пользу их валидности, однако паттерны отношений указывают на то, что речь может идти о разных типах или компонентах моральной оценки себя. Отмечается многокомпонентность обеих версий ШМК, отражающая их большую чувствительность в сравнении с предшествующими инструментами для измерения моральной идентичности и самооценки. Обсуждаются некоторые возможные направления для будущих исследований с использованием предложенного инструментария.

Current research and clinical practice in person-centred approaches highlight the importance of self, identity, and personal meanings in psychosis. Previous research has focused on dimensions of self, but less attention has been paid to the personal meanings involved in identity. The personal construct theory framework and the repertory grid technique (RGT) allow the study of identity and personal meanings within person-centred approaches of psychopathology and treatment in psychosis, as suggested by studies that began more than 40 years ago. However, their contributions have not yet been reviewed. We aimed to systematically review the evidence for the role of identity and personal meanings in psychotic disorders. We performed a systematic search using personal construct and RGT terms in PsycINFO, Web of Science, PubMed, EBSCO, Scopus, and Google Scholar. After identifying 2,574 articles, 15 were included. Nine studies followed an idiographic assessment, and six were nomothetic. Patients reported their subjective experience of isolation in terms of high self-ideal discrepancy and high perceived discrepancy with their significant others, which some studies associated with a lower degree of recovery or with the way in which positive symptoms were construed. Self-fragmentation either decreased with interventions or was associated with recovery. Evidence regarding interpersonal construing was less consistent, but there was a tendency for patients to show a more rigid cognitive structure than controls. To conclude, we found some evidence that self-discrepancies, fragmentation of self, and interpersonal construing are affected in psychosis and potentially modifiable through psychotherapy.

Psychometric validity requires construct, predictive, and content validity. However, existing methods for ensuring content validity are limited in their ability to identify attributes missing from a content domain or attributes that should be removed from a content domain. In particular, rather than capturing how consumers conceptualize a market construct, existing methods capture how consumers respond to how researchers conceptualize a market construct. The authors propose a market-based procedure for capturing how consumers conceptualize market constructs, including metrics for (1) identifying attributes missing from a content domain and (2) attributes consumers consider outside a content domain.

Body, movement and mind are united. Depression can be embodied, and the movement of people with depression is often different from people without depression. This embodiment will most likely vary from culture to culture because depression is a condition that profoundly reflects cultural and social patterns. This article firstly explores a study which examined the movement characteristics and the psychological constructs of women with depression in Taiwan. Secondly, interpretations of cultural meanings from the perspective of individualism/collectivism are made. Data gathering tools employed in this study are repertory grid technique from personal construct psychology and Laban Movement Analysis (LMA). Initial results showed that women with depression use less sagittal movement than women without depression. In addition, it was found that the distances between social roles and actual/ideal self were correlated to depression. The results might illustrate the difficulties these women experience in finding themselves while maintaining stressful social connections and striving to meet society’s expectations on the social roles they are expected to play in a collectivistic culture such as Taiwan. The understanding of the connection between depression, culture and movement is beneficial for embodied psychotherapies such as body psychotherapy and dance movement psychotherapy. This awareness of cultural differences for therapists, and the corresponding therapy strategies, approaches and techniques can then be adopted.

The essence of authentic leadership is alignment of actions with an identity grounded in the “true self.” Theoretically, achieving such alignment requires self-awareness of discrepancies between current leadership capacity and elements of aspirational identity. Using personal constructs psychology, this study explores evidence that doctoral education serves as a catalyst for developing authentic leader identity. Repertory grid technique was used to elicit the implicit leadership theories of students enrolled in their first and final Leadership Core courses in an interdisciplinary doctoral program. Data analysis revealed significant differences in the complexity and integration, but not differentiation of leader identity.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to adopt the perspective of personal construct theory to conceptualise employability. The study explores differences in the implicit employability theories of those involved in developing employability (educators) and those selecting and recruiting higher education (HE) students and graduates (employers).Design/methodology/approachA repertory grid technique (RGT) was employed to uncover the implicit theories of 22 employers and 14 educators across the UK.FindingsA total of 717 constructs were elicited. A differential analysis of data gathered demonstrated several areas of consensus among employers and educators (including emotional management, confidence, professionalism), as well as divergence in representations of commitment, proactivity, interpersonal competencies and vision to the conceptualisation of employability.Practical implicationsFindings from this analysis indicate a need to integrate group process assessments within undergraduate programmes and recruitment procedures.Originality/valueThis study represents a personal construct approach to employability, utilising the unique value of RGT to further inform our understanding of employability within an HE context. This study contributes to an understanding of employability as a continually re-constructed concept. This study provides insights to its nature via two information rich cases that have extensive knowledge on the topic.

One of the consequences of the latest Swedish teacher education reform from 2011 is that a student teacher is required to write two student theses during her studies. These student theses should together represent 30 ECTS. One common way to implement this requirement is that the student writes two theses, where the first one is a systematic review of earlier research and the second one a more traditional empirical thesis. This article investigates if this new type of student thesis – that is, systematic reviews written by students as the first part of the requirements for teacher qualification, also involves a new kind of assessment practice for the examiners at the teacher education programmes. In the student thesis the student is supposed to demonstrate skills concerning several formal learning aims of the teacher education to obtain their qualifications. These include to follow the development of knowledge within a field and solve problems. The student thesis is not only important for the individual student to obtain qualifications, but has also been used to evaluate the teacher education programmes. Despite its significance for students and schools of education, very little research has been conducted on practices in the assessment of systematic reviews. Earlier research related to assessment of student theses demonstrates the difficulties with agreement in assessment practice. The results from earlier studies regarding the importance of the examiners’ background present a divided picture. While some research point to the examiners’ own subject or experience as important when judging theses, other studies do not.The purpose with this study was to examine if a systematic review, as a new phenomenon at the teacher education programmes, has entailed a new assessment practice for the examiners at the universities. Supervisors and examiners at six universities with teacher education have been interviewed and have also answered a survey concerning these systematic reviews. The interviews were conducted through a combination of comparative judgement and repertory grid technique. The interviews were conducted after the respondents had read 5-8 student theses. In the interviews, criteria which were pointed out as decisive for the quality of a thesis by the respondents were discussed. The survey was a Q-sort survey where the respondents ranked different assessment criteria. A total of 45 criteria from the interviews were ranked from 0-10 by the respondents with respect to how important they are when judging a student thesis.The results demonstrate a width in the assessment repertoire among the respondents. Examiners in the study do not see notable differences between a systematic review and a more traditional student thesis. The reasoning concerning criteria was mostly made on a relatively general level, which could be applied both to systematic reviews and empirical theses. Only 27 per cent of the respondents in the survey set a criterion which was more important for a systematic review. Those differences which were mentioned related to the structure of the thesis, the method and how the relation to research is described. Results suggest that examiners’ assessment criteria is a potentially important area for educational development within schools of education, and would also deserve attention in wider national and international discussions.

The aim of the study is to propose an ontology-based approach that provides a framework as a strategy decision tool for urban service design. The research methodology includes two phases to acquire the knowledge needed for urban service management of a city, as a case study. The first phase provides the priority list, through the Principal Component Analysis, for an age-friendly city determined by the citizens through a quantitative research. The second phase is a qualitative research among the public service providers, focusing on 'adequate community support and health services' feature which was the top priority of phase one. The repertory grid as a mapping tool consists of elements (age-friendly cities' features) and constructs (municipality provided services) that interconnect the tacit knowledge with the external knowledge. The findings indicated the importance of the necessity of a shared understanding and conceptualization of what a service is among service providers and consumers. This paper makes an important contribution to urban service management by making the interconnection between tacit and external knowledge as a strategic decision support tool.

This paper presents a case study of end users and designers and how they perceive different mobile shopping app user interfaces (UIs). This paper aims to explore the UI preference differences between users and designers and elucidate specified UI attributes that are reflective of user preferences. This paper contains three procedures: 1) eliciting users’ and designers’ UI perceptual similarity by sorting to identify UI perceptual similarity space; 2) eliciting users’ and designers’ overall preferences by rating, which displays the preference dimensions; and 3) eliciting users’ and designers’ idiosyncratic perceptions by using the repertory grid technique (RGT), which indicates the UI perceptual differences between the users and the designers. The specified inter-group perceptual differences were detected by comparing RGT-elicited perceptions. The UI design features were explored, which influenced the designers’ and users’ subjective evaluations. The results showed four typical mobile shopping app UIs, and the distribution of ideal preference UIs for users and designers was evaluated. Through the experiments, rich qualitative insights were quantified, and valuable information from the participants was obtained. The specified design attributes of UI on the mobile shopping app, which improved user satisfaction, were found out. Moreover, those attributes will help designers know which important attributes should be noted.

Human and environmental health are important globally. Reduced car use could improve human health by promoting physical activity and consequent decreases in carbon dioxide emissions would help achieve greenhouse gas emissions targets. The aim of this study was to explore how travellers evaluate seven transport choices. We compared the evaluative spaces of two distinct groups of transport users: predominantly non-car users and above-average mileage car users. The Repertory Grid technique was used to elicit 448 constructs from 15 non-car users and 15 high-mileage car users. Thematic analysis, content analysis, cluster analysis, analysis of means and principal component analysis were used to identify similarities and differences between the construct systems. Results revealed that non-car users and high-mileage car users apply broadly similar constructs to evaluate transport modes. They differ, however, in the structure of their construct systems. Both groups share constructs related to time and route flexibility. Effects on the environment and benefits of physical activity were important for non-car users but not for high-mileage car users. Non-car users view travel modes with greater differentiation, while high-mileage car users use a looser construal of travel modes. We discuss implications for future intervention design and ramifications for policy and practice.
