See paper for full list of authors; We present an analysis of the Λ(1405) resonance produced in the reaction p+p→Σ±+π∓+K++p at 3.5 GeV kinetic beam energy measured with the High Acceptance Dielectron Spectrometer (HADES) at the Gesellschaft für Schwerionenforschung (GSI). The two charged decay channels Λ(1405)→Σ±π∓ have been reconstructed for the first time in p+p collisions. The efficiency and acceptance-corrected spectral shapes show a peak position clearly below 1400 MeV/c2. We find a total production cross section of σΛ(1405)=9.2±0.9±0.7−1.0+3.3 μb. The analysis of its polar angle distribution suggests that the Λ(1405) is produced isotropically in the p−p center-of-mass system (CMS).

Data on inclusive pion and eta production measured with the dielectron spectrometer HADES in the reaction p+93Nb at a kinetic beam energy of 3.5 GeV are presented. Our results, obtained with the photon conversion method, supplement the rather sparse information on neutral meson production in proton-nucleus reactions existing for this bombarding energy regime. The reconstructed e+e-e+e- transverse-momentum and rapidity distributions are confronted with transport model calculations, which account fairly well for both pi0 and eta production., 12 pages, 9 figures, submitted to Physical Review C

- Abstract
We present a search for the e+e- decay of a dark photon, also known as U vector boson, in inclusive dielectron spectra measured by HADES in the 3.5 GeV p+p and p+Nb reactions, as well as the 1.756 GeV/u Ar+KCl reaction. An upper limit on the kinetic mixing parameter squared ε2 at 90% CL has been obtained for the mass range MU = 0.02 - 0.55 GeV/c2 and is compared with the present world data set. For masses 0.03 - 0.1 GeV/c2, the limit has been lowered with respect to previous results, allowing now to exclude a large part of the parameter region favoured by the muon g -2 anomaly. Furthermore, an improved upper limit of 2.3x10-6 has been set on the helicity-suppressed direct decay of the eta meson, η-> e+e-, at 90% CL.

A high-statistic data sample of Ar(1.76 AGeV)+KCl events recorded with HADES is used to search for a hypertriton signal. An upper production limit per centrality-triggered event of $ 1.04\times 10^{-3}$ on the 3 $ \sigma$ level is derived. Comparing this value with the number of successfully reconstructed $ \Lambda$ hyperons allows to determine an upper limit on the ratio $ N_{_{\Lambda}^{3}H}/N_{\Lambda}$ , which is confronted with statistical and coalescence-type model calculations.

Results on the deep sub-threshold production of the short-lived hadronic resonance K*(892)0 are reported for collisions of Ar + KCl at 1.76A GeV beam energy, studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at SIS18/GSI. The K*(892)0 production probability per central collision of \( P_{K^{*0}}=(4.4\pm 1.1 \pm 0.5)\times 10^{-4}\) and the K*(892)0/K0 ratio of \( P_{K^{*0}}/P_{K^0}=(1.9\pm 0.5\pm 0.3)\times 10^{-2}\) are determined at the lowest energy so far (i.e. deep below the threshold for the corresponding production in nucleon-nucleon collisions, \( \sqrt{s_{NN}}-\sqrt{s_{thr}}=-340\) MeV). The K*0/K0 ratio is compared with results of other experiments and with the predictions of the UrQMD transport approach and of the statistical hadronization model. The experimental K*0 yield and the K*0/K0 ratio are overestimated by the transport model by factors of about five and two, respectively. In a chemically equilibrated medium the ratio corresponds to a temperature of the thermalized system being systematically lower than the value determined by the yields of the stable and long-lived hadrons produced in Ar + KCl collisions. From the present measurement, we conclude that sub-threshold K* production either cannot be considered to proceed in a system being in thermal equilibrium or these short-lived resonances appear undersaturated, for example as a result of the rescattering of the decay particles in the ambient hadronic medium.

Hadron modifications in nuclear matter are discussed in connection to chiral symmetry restoration and/or hadronic many body effects. Experiments with photon, proton and heavy ion beams are used to probe properties of hadrons embedded in nuclear matter at different temperatures and densities. Most of the information has been gathered for the light vector mesons ρ ω and ø. HADES is a second generation experiment operating at GSI with the main aim to study in-medium modifications by means of dielectron production at the SIS18/Bevelac energy range. Large acceptance and excellent particle identification capabilities allows also for measurements of strangeness production. These abilities combined with the variety of beams provided by the SIS18 allow for a characterization of properties of the dense baryonic matter properties created in heavy ion collisions at these energies. A review of recent experimental results obtained by HADES is presented, with main emphasis on hadron properties in nuclear matter. 420 1 Conference code: 96468 Cited By :6

- Abstract
A high-statistic data sample of Ar(1.76 AGeV)+KCl events recorded with HADES is used to search for a hypertriton signal. An upper production limit per centrality-triggered event of 1.04 x10-3 on the 3σ level is derived. Comparing this value with the number of successfully reconstructed Λ hyperons allows to determine an upper limit on the ratio N3HΛ/NΛ, which is confronted with statistical and coalescence-type model calculations.

Nuclear Theory ,Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Data on inclusive pion and η production measured with the dielectron spectrometer HADES in the reaction p+93Nb at a kinetic beam energy of 3.5 GeV are presented. Our results, obtained with the photon-conversion method, supplement the rather sparse information on neutral-meson production in proton-nucleus reactions existing for this bombarding energy regime. The reconstructed e+e-e+e- transverse-momentum and rapidity distributions are confronted with transport-model calculations, which account fairly well for both π0 and η production. © 2013 American Physical Society. 88 2 Cited By :8

High Energy Physics::Phenomenology ,Nuclear Theory ,Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Hadron modications in nuclear matter are discussed in connection to chiral symmetry restoration and/or hadronic many body eects. Experiments with photon, proton and heavy ion beams are used to probe properties of hadrons embedded in nuclear matter at different temperatures and densities. Most of the information has been gathered for the light vector mesons ρ, ω and φ. HADES is a second generation experiment operating at GSI with the main aim to study in-medium mass modication by means of dielectron production at SIS18/Bevelac energy range. Large acceptance and excellent particle identication capabilities allows also for measurement of strangeness production. These abilities combined with the variety of beams provided by the SIS18 allows for characterization of properties of the dense baryonic matter properties created in heavy ion collisions at these energies. A review of recent experimental results obtained by HADES is presented, with main emphasis on hadron properties in nuclear matter.

- Abstract
Results on the deep sub-threshold production of the short-lived hadronic resonance K^{*}(892)^{0} are reported for collisions of Ar\,+\,KCl at 1.76A~GeV beam energy, studied with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES) at SIS18/GSI. The K^{*}(892)^{0} production probability per central collision of P_{K^{*0}}=(4.4 \pm 1.1 \pm 0.5)\times10^{-4} and the K^{*}(892)^{0}/K^{0} ratio of P_{\mbox{K}^{*0}}/P_{\mbox{K}^0}=(1.9 \pm 0.5 \pm 0.3)\times10^{-2} are determined at the lowest energy so far (sqrt{s_{NN}}-sqrt{s_{thr}}=-340~MeV). The K^{*0}/K^{0} ratio is compared with results of other experiments and with the predictions of the UrQMD transport approach and of the statistical hadronization model. The experimental K^{*0}/K^{0} ratio is in fair agreement with the results of the transport model. In a chemically equilibrated medium the ratio corresponds to a temperature of the thermalized system being systematically lower than the value determined by the yields of the stable and long-lived hadrons produced in Ar\,+\,KCl collisions. From the present measurement, we conclude that sub-threshold K^* production either can not be considered to proceed in a system being in thermal equilibrium or these short-lived resonances appear undersaturated, for example as a result of the rescattering of the decay particles in the ambient hadronic medium.

Kaonic bound state ,Meson-baryon interaction ,Partial wave analysis ,Λ(1405) - Abstract
The reaction p(3.5 GeV) + p → p + Λ + K + can be studied to search for the existence of kaonic bound states like p pK - leading to this final state. This effort has been motivated by the assumption that in p + p collisions the Λ(1405) resonance can act as a doorway to the formation of the kaonic bound states. The status of this analysis within the HADES Collaboration, with particular emphasis on the comparison to simulations, is shown in this work and the deviation method utilized by the DISTO Collaboration in a similar analysis is discussed. The outcome suggests the employment of a partial wave analysis do disentangle the different contributions to the measured pK +Λ final state. © 2013 Elsevier B.V. 914 60 68 Cited By :26

See paper for full list of authors; This document describes the technical layout and the expected performance of the Straw Tube Tracker (STT), the main tracking detector of the P−− ANDA target spectrometer. The STT encloses a Micro-Vertex-Detector (MVD) for the inner tracking and is followed in beam direction by a set of GEM stations. The tasks of the STT are the measurement of the particle momentum from the reconstructed trajectory and the measurement of the specific energy loss for a particle identification. Dedicated simulations with full analysis studies of certain proton-antiproton reactions, identified as being benchmark tests for the whole P−− ANDA scientific program, have been performed to test the STT layout and performance. The results are presented, and the time lines to construct the STT are described.

We present exclusive meaurements of the pp→pnπ+ and pp→ppπO reactions at 1.25 GeV, 2.2 GeV and 3.5 GeV and of the pp→ppπ+π- reaction at 1.25 GeV with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer at GSI. Total and differential cross-sections for the one-pion production channels are analyzed with the resonance model to extract the differential baryonic resonance contributions. A comparison of the two-pion production channels to effective lagrangian model predictions is on-going. The two-pion invariant mass and opening angle distributions show sensitivity to the double Δ(1232) and N(1440) → Δπ decays. 541 546 Sponsors: Conference code: 103419

Beam energies ,Isospin ,Nuclear physics ,Incident beam energy ,Pion production ,Hadrons ,Dilepton production ,Dileptons - Abstract
Significant isospin effects are observed by the HADES collaboration in inclusive dilepton production channels in the pp and quasi free np experiments at 1.25 GeV kinetic beam energy. Triggered by this observation, analyses of several exclusive channels within either dilepton or pion production have been started to shed more light on the possible explanations. Furthermore, the exclusive π+π- production in np and pp collisions provide tests for a consistent description of double pion production in different isospin states, which is necessary to understand contributions of double δ(1232) and N*(1440) production. This is also important in the context of the recent results from the WASA collaboration on the ABC effect with reference to a d* dibaryon resonance in the isospin 0 channel. © Copyright owned by the author(s) under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike Licence. The reaction p(@3.5\,GeV)+p -> p++ K^+ can be studied to search for the existence of kaonic bound states like ppK^- leading to this final state. This effort has been motivated by the assumption that in p+p collisions the (1405) resonance can act as a doorway to the formation of the kaonic bound states. The status of this analysis within the HADES collaboration, with particular emphasis on the comparison to simulations, is shown in this work and the deviation method utilized by the DISTO collaboration in a similar analysis is discussed. The outcome suggests the employment of a partial wave analysis to disentangle the different contributions to the measured pK^+final state., 9 pages, 6 figures, proceeding of the HYP2012 conference Nucl. We present measurements of exclusive \pi^{+,0} and \eta\ production in pp reactions at 1.25 GeV and 2.2 GeV beam kinetic energy in hadron and dielectron channels. In the case of \pi^+ and \pi^0, high-statistics invariant-mass and angular distributions are obtained within the HADES acceptance as well as acceptance corrected distributions, which are compared to a resonance model. The sensitivity of the data to the yield and production angular distribution of \Delta(1232) and higher lying baryon resonances is shown, and an improved parameterization is proposed. The extracted cross sections are of special interest in the case of pp \to pp \eta, since controversial data exist at 2.0 GeV; we find \sigma =0.142 \pm 0.022 mb. Using the dielectron channels, the \pi^0 and \eta\ Dalitz decay signals are reconstructed with yields fully consistent with the hadronic channels. The electron invariant masses and acceptance corrected helicity angle distributions are found in good agreement with model predictions., Comment: 22 pages, 18 figures, to be published in EPJA

This document describes the technical layout and the expected performance of the Straw Tube Tracker (STT), the main tracking detector of the PANDA target spectrometer. The STT encloses a Micro-Vertex-Detector (MVD) for the inner tracking and is followed in beam direction by a set of GEM-stations. The tasks of the STT are the measurement of the particle momentum from the reconstructed trajectory and the measurement of the specific energy-loss for a particle identification. Dedicated simulations with full analysis studies of certain proton-antiproton reactions, identified as being benchmark tests for the whole PANDA scientific program, have been performed to test the STT layout and performance. The results are presented, and the time lines to construct the STT are described., Comment: accepted for publication on EPJA

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The aim of the present analysis is to determine the relative production cross sections of the $\Lambda$(1405) and $\Sigma(1385)^{0}$ resonances in p+p collisions at E$_{kin}$=3.5 GeV measured with HADES. Upper and lower limits have been determined for the ratio $\sigma_{(\Sigma(1385)^{0}+p+K^{+})}/\sigma_{(\Lambda(1405)+p+K^{+})}=0.76_{-0.26}^{+0.54}$. The knowledge of this ratio is an essential input for the analysis of the decay $\Lambda(1405)\rightarrow\Sigma^{\pm}\pi^{\mp}$, where an unambiguous separation of the $\Lambda$(1405) and $\Sigma(1385)^{0}$ signals is not possible.

High Energy Physics::Experiment ,Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
Data on inclusive dielectron production are presented for the reaction 2.2 GeV p + p measured with the High Acceptance DiElectron Spectrometer (HADES). Our results supplement data obtained formerly in this bombarding energy regime by DLS and HADES. The comparison with the DLS data for the reaction p + p at 2.09 GeV is shown. The reconstructed e+e− distributions are compared with a simulated pair cocktail, which points to an excess yield of invariant masses at around 0.5 GeV/c2. Inclusive cross sections of neutral pion and eta production are obtained as well.

P+p collisions ,Λ(1405) - Abstract
We study the production of σ ±π ∓ pK + particle quartets in p + p reactions at 3.5 GeV kinetic beam energy. The data were taken with the HADES experiment at GSI. This report evaluates the contribution of resonances like Λ(1405), σ(1385) 0, Λ(1520), δ(1232), N* and K *0 to the σ ±π ∓ pK + final state. The resulting simulation model is compared to the experimental data in several angular distributions and it shows itself as suitable to evaluate the acceptance corrections properly. © 2012 Elsevier B.V. 881 178 186 Cited By :13

- Abstract
We present an analysis of the hyperons Λ(1405) and Σ(1385)+ for p+p reactions at 3.5 GeV kinetic beam energy. The data were taken with the High Acceptance Di-Electron Spectrometer (HADES). A Λ(1405) signal could be reconstructed in both charged decay channels Λ(1405) → Σ±π∓. The obtained statistics of the Σ(1385)+ signal allows also differential studies.

The angular range of 69°-125° in the center of mass system is covered. The obtained results are compared with the relativistic multiple scattering model calculation using the CD-Bonn deuteron wave function. The data at fixed scattering angles in the c.m. are in qualitative agreement with the constituent counting rules prediction. 2012-January Sponsors: Conference code: 117673

The results of double pion production in np and pp collisions at an incident beam energy of 1.25 GeV with the HADES spectrometer at GSI are presented. The np-reactions were studied in d p collisions at 1.25 GeV/u using Forward Wall hodoscope aimed at registering spectator protons. High statistic invariantmass and angular distributions are obtained within the HADES acceptance which are compared with phase-space distributions. 2012-January Sponsors: Conference code: 117673

- Abstract
We present results of an exclusive measurement of the first-excited state of the Σ hyperon, Σ(1385)+, produced in p+p→Σ++K++n at 3.5GeV beam energy. The extracted data allow the detailed study of the invariant mass distribution of the Σ(1385)+. The mass distribution is well described by a relativistic Breit-Wigner function with a maximum at m 0=1383.2±0.9MeV/c2 and a width of 40.2±2.1MeV/c2. The exclusive production cross section comes out to be 22.27±0.89±1. 56-2.10+3.07μb. Angular distributions of the Σ(1385 )+ in different reference frames are found to be compatible with the hypothesis that 33% of Σ(1385 )+ result from the decay of an intermediate broad Δ++ excitation at about 2000MeV/c2. © 2012 American Physical Society. 85 3 Cited By :34

We present data on dielectron emission in proton induced reactions on a Nb target at 3.5 GeV kinetic beam energy measured with HADES installed at GSI. The data represent the first high statistics measurement of proton-induced dielectron radiation from cold nuclear matter in a kinematic regime, where strong medium effects are expected. Combined with the good mass resolution of 2%, it is the first measurement sensitive to changes of the spectral functions of vector mesons, as predicted by models for hadrons at rest or small relative momenta. Comparing the e+e invariant mass spectra to elementary p+p data, we observe for e+e momenta Pee < 0.8 GeV/c a strong modification of the shape of the spectrum, which we attribute to an additional rho-like contribution and a decrease of omega yield. These opposite trends are tentatively interpreted as a strong coupling of the rho meson to baryonic resonances and an absorption of the omega meson, which are two aspects of in-medium modification of vector mesons.

- Abstract
We present an analysis of the Λ(1405) hyperon produced in p+p collisions at 3.5GeV kinetic beam energy measured with HADES at GSI. The two charged decay channels Λ(1405)->Σ±π∓ have been reconstructed for the first time in p+p collisions. The efficiency and acceptance-corrected spectral shapes show a peak position clearly below 1390MeV/c2 and a total production cross section of σΛ(1405)=9.2±0.9±0.7+3.3−1.0 μb has been extracted. The analysis of its polar angle distribution suggests that the Λ(1405) is produced isotropically in the p-p center of mass system.

We study the production of Sigma^+-pi^+-pK^+ particle quartets in p+p reactions at 3.5 GeV kinetic beam energy. The data were taken with the HADES experiment at GSI. This report evaluates the contribution of resonances like Lambda(1405$, Sigma(1385)^0, Lambda(1520), Delta(1232), N^* and K^*0 to the Sigma^+- pi^-+ p K+ final state. The resulting simulation model is compared to the experimental data in several angular distributions and it shows itself as suitable to evaluate the acceptance corrections properly., Comment: 15 pages, 5 figures

We present the inclusive invariant mass, transverse momentum and rapidity distributions of dielectrons (e+e- pairs) in p+p interactions at 3. 5GeV beam kinetic energy. In the vector meson mass region, a distinct peak corresponding to direct ω decays is reconstructed with a 2% mass resolution. The data is compared to predictions from three model calculations. Due to the large acceptance of the HADES apparatus for e+e- invariant masses above 0. 2 GeV/c2 and for transverse pair momenta pt < 1 GeV/c, acceptance corrections are, to a large extent, model independent. This allows us to extract from dielectron data for the first time at this energy the inclusive production cross-sections for light vector mesons. Inclusive production cross-sections for π0 and η mesons are also reported. The obtained results will serve as an important reference for the study of vector meson production in proton-nucleus and heavy-ion collisions. Furthermore, using this data, an improved value for the upper bound of the branching ratio for direct η decays into the electron-positron channel is obtained. © 2012 The Author(s). 48 5 1 11 Cited By :9

The knowledge of baryonic resonance properties and production cross sections plays an important role for the extraction and understanding of medium modifications of mesons in hot and/or dense nuclear matter. We present and discuss systematics on dielectron and strangeness production obtained with HADES on p+p, p+A and A+A collisions in the few GeV energy regime with respect to these resonances. © Owned by the authors 2012. 36

This document illustrates the technical layout and the expected performance of the Micro Vertex Detector (MVD) of the PANDA experiment. The MVD will detect charged particles as close as possible to the interaction zone. Design criteria and the optimisation process as well as the technical solutions chosen are discussed and the results of this process are subjected to extensive Monte Carlo physics studies. The route towards realisation of the detector is outlined., 189 pages, 225 figures, 41 tables
