The proliferation of radar technology has given rise to a growing demand for advanced, high-performance transmitter front-ends operating in the 24 GHz frequency band. This paper presents a design analysis of a radio frequency (RF) transmitter (TX) front-end operated at a 24 GHz frequency and designed using 65 nm complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology for radar applications. The proposed TX front-end design includes the integration of an up-conversion mixer and power amplifier (PA). The up-conversion mixer is a Gilbert cell-based design that translates the 2.4 GHz intermediate frequency (IF) signal and 21.6 GHz local oscillator (LO) signal to the 24 GHz RF output signal. The mixer is designed with a novel technique that includes a duplex transconductance path (DTP) for enhancing the mixer's linearity. The DTP of the mixer includes a primary transconductance path (PTP) and a secondary transconductance path (STP). The PTP incorporates a common source (CS) amplifier, while the STP incorporates an improved cross-quad transconductor (ICQT). The integrated PA in the TX front-end is a class AB tunable two-stage PA that can be tuned with the help of varactors as a synchronous mode to increase the PA bandwidth or stagger mode to obtain a high gain. The PA is tuned to 24 GHz as a synchronous mode PA for the TX front-end operation. The proposed TX front-end showed an excellent output power of 11.7 dBm and dissipated 7.5 mW from a 1.2 V supply. In addition, the TX front-end achieved a power-added efficiency (PAE) of 47% and 1 dB compression point (OP1dB) of 10.5 dBm. In this case, the output power is 10.5 dBm higher than the linear portion of the response. The problem of accurate source localization has been an area of focus in high-frequency surface wave radar (HFSWR) applications. However, antenna pattern distortion (APD) decreases the direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation performance of the multiple signal classification (MUSIC) algorithm. Up to now, limited studies have been conducted on the calibration of antenna pattern distortion for phased arrays in HFSWR. In this paper, we first analyze the effect of APD on the performance of the MUSIC algorithm through estimation of accuracy and angular resolution. We demonstrate that using the actual pattern (or say APD) can improve DOA estimation performance. Based on this proposition, we propose a novel iterative calibration method that employs the first-order sea clutter data and can jointly estimate DOA and APD in an iterative way. To obtain available calibration points, we introduce the extraction methods of the first-order sea clutter spectrum and single-DOA spectrum points. Meanwhile, in each iteration, the Beamspace MUSIC algorithm and artificial hummingbird algorithm (AHA) are utilized to estimate the DOA and APD, respectively. Numerical results reveal a good coincidence between the actual pattern and the estimated APD. We also apply this method to process the experimental data of HFSWR. We obtain the APD vector of the real phased array and improve the direction-finding performance of several real ship targets using this vector. In this study, we utilized dual-polarization weather radar and disdrometer data to investigate the kinematic and microphysical characteristics of an extreme heavy rainfall event that occurred on 20 July 2021, in Zhengzhou. The results are as follows: FY-2G satellite images showed that extremely heavy rainfall mainly occurred during the merging period of medium- and small-scale convective cloud clusters. The merging of these cloud clusters enhanced the rainfall intensity. The refined three-dimensional wind field, as retrieved by the multi-Doppler radar, revealed a prominent mesoscale vortex and convergence structure at the extreme rainfall stage. This led to echo stagnation, resulting in localized extreme heavy rainfall. We explored the formation mechanism of the notable ZDR arc feature of dual-polarization variables during this phase. It was revealed that during the record-breaking hourly rainfall event in Zhengzhou (20 July 2021, 16:00–17:00 Beijing Time), the warm rain process dominated. Effective collision–coalescence processes, producing a high concentration of medium- to large-sized raindrops, significantly contributed to heavy rainfall at the surface. From an observational perspective, it was revealed that raindrops exhibited significant collision interactions during their descent. Moreover, a conceptual model for the kinematic and microphysical characteristics of this extreme rainfall event was established, aiming to provide technical support for monitoring and early warning of similar extreme rainfall events. In order to achieve miniaturization, short-range radar (SRR) generally adopts millimeter-wave (MMW) radar with a frequency-modulated continuous-wave (FMCW) system, which may make the stop–go–stop assumption in traditional synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imaging algorithms invalid. In addition, in order to observe a large enough area, SRR often needs a wide radar beam, which may cause serious range–azimuth coupling when using SRR for SAR imaging. The above two problems may make the traditional SAR imaging algorithm invalid in SRR SAR imaging. Taking the SRR SAR imaging application into account, traditional frequency domain SAR imaging algorithms are analyzed and improved in this paper. Firstly, the intra-pulse motion (IPM) caused by the FMCW system and the two-dimensional coupling (TDC) in the case of a wide beam are analyzed. Subsequently, the applicability of the range Doppler algorithm (RDA), the frequency scaling algorithm (FSA) and the range migration algorithm (RMA) for SRR SAR is analyzed. Then, improvement measures are put forward to address the aliasing and folding phenomena caused by the wide-beam problem in the FSA and RMA, respectively. With the widespread application and functional complexity of deep neural networks (DNNs), the demand for training samples is increasing. This elevated requirement also extends to DNN-based SAR object detection. Most public SAR object detection datasets are oriented to marine targets such as ships, while data sets oriented to land targets are relatively rare, though they are an effective way to improve the land object detection capability of deep models through SAR sample generation. In this paper, a synthesis generation collaborative SAR sample augmentation framework is proposed to achieve flexible and diverse high-quality sample augmentation. First, a semantic-layout-guided image synthesis strategy is proposed to generate diverse detection samples. The issues of object location rationality and object layout diversity are also addressed. Meanwhile, a pix2pixGAN network guided by layout maps is utilized to achieve diverse background augmentation. Second, a progressive training strategy of diffusion models is proposed to achieve semantically controllable SAR sample generation to further improve the diversity of scene clutter. Finally, a sample cleaning method considering distribution migration and network filtering is employed to further improve the quality of detection samples. The experimental results show that this semantic synthesis generation method can outperform existing sample augmentation methods, leading to a comprehensive improvement in the accuracy metrics of classical detection networks. Precise knowledge of the antenna pointing direction is a key facet to ensure the accuracy of observations from scanning weather radars. The sun is an often-used reference point to aid accurate alignment of weather radar systems and is particularly useful when observed as interference during normal scanning operations. In this study, we combine two online solar interference approaches to determine the pointing accuracy of an X-band mobile weather radar system deployed for 26 months in northern England (54.517°N, 3.615°W). During the deployment, several shifts in the tilt of the radar system are diagnosed between site visits. One extended period of time (>11 months) is shown to have a changing tilt that is independent of human intervention. To verify the corrections derived from this combined approach, quantitative precipitation estimates (QPEs) from the radar system are compared to surface observations: an approach that takes advantage of the variations in the magnitude of partial beam blockage corrections required due to tilting of the radar system close to mountainous terrain. The observed improvements in QPE performance after correction support the use of the derived tilt corrections for further applications using the corrected dataset. Finally, recommendations for future deployments are made, with particular focus on higher latitudes where solar interference spikes show more seasonality than those at mid-latitudes. For very high frequency (VHF) phased array radar, the key problem to be solved in altitude measurement is the super-resolution spatial spectrum estimation under the condition of coherent sources. The spatial smoothing algorithm is a kind of decorrelation algorithm with excellent properties, but the decorrelation process is at the expense of the effective array aperture. Because it only uses the autocorrelation information of the subspace, its performance is significantly reduced, when the positions of the coherent sources are very close. In order to solve the above problems, this paper proposes an altitude measurement method of VHF radar based on the space smoothing of autocorrelation and cross-correlation matrix, which is used to realize the correlation and super-resolution processing of echo signals and multipath signals. The proposed method does not need to construct a weighting matrix, and can make full use of the received data, enhance the signal components in the equivalent spatial smoothing matrix, reduce the impact of noise, and improve the resolution of coherent sources. Highlights: Fe3+, Co2+, H3BTC, and collagen peptide are used to achieve a one-step assembly of stable FeCo-MOG/CP by manipulating the complexation effect and solution polarity. By optimizing pyrolysis, two kinds of nitrogen-doped carbon aerogels loaded with virus-shaped and nanospherical magnetic particles are obtained. FeCo/Fe3O4/NC and FeCo/NC aerogels exhibit excellent electromagnetic wave absorbing and radar stealth performances. Metal–organic gel (MOG) derived composites are promising multi-functional materials due to their alterable composition, identifiable chemical homogeneity, tunable shape, and porous structure. Herein, stable metal–organic hydrogels are prepared by regulating the complexation effect, solution polarity and curing speed. Meanwhile, collagen peptide is used to facilitate the fabrication of a porous aerogel with excellent physical properties as well as the homogeneous dispersion of magnetic particles during calcination. Subsequently, two kinds of heterometallic magnetic coupling systems are obtained through the application of Kirkendall effect. FeCo/nitrogen-doped carbon (NC) aerogel demonstrates an ultra-strong microwave absorption of − 85 dB at an ultra-low loading of 5%. After reducing the time taken by atom shifting, a FeCo/Fe3O4/NC aerogel containing virus-shaped particles is obtained, which achieves an ultra-broad absorption of 7.44 GHz at an ultra-thin thickness of 1.59 mm due to the coupling effect offered by dual-soft-magnetic particles. Furthermore, both aerogels show excellent thermal insulation property, and their outstanding radar stealth performances in J-20 aircraft are confirmed by computer simulation technology. The formation mechanism of MOG is also discussed along with the thermal insulation and electromagnetic wave absorption mechanism of the aerogels, which will enable the development and application of novel and lightweight stealth coatings. The electromagnetic and radio-absorbing characteristics of ferrite-polymer composites with conductive inclusions based on polyvinyl alcohol are investigated. The Ni–Zn spinel ferrite powder of 2000NN grade with composition Ni0.32Zn0.68Fe2O4 was used as filler. It is shown that the obtained composites are effective absorbers in the frequency range of 2–5 GHz with peak reflection loss less than ~20 dB. Through the analysis of the permittivity spectra and permeability spectra, as well as the calculated reflection loss spectra, critical factors of the electromagnetic wave absorption in obtained composites are established. We present a comprehensive quality-controlled 15-month dataset of remote sensing observations of low-level mixed-phase clouds (LLMPCs) taken at the high Arctic site of Ny-Ålesund, Svalbard, Norway. LLMPCs occur frequently in the Arctic region and extensively affect the energy budget. However, our understanding of the ice microphysical processes taking place in these clouds is incomplete. The dual-wavelength and polarimetric Doppler cloud radar observations, which are the cornerstones of the dataset, provide valuable fingerprints of ice microphysical processes, and the high number of cases included allows for the compiling of robust statistics for process studies. The radar data are complemented with thermodynamic retrievals from a microwave radiometer, liquid base height from a ceilometer, and wind fields from large-eddy simulations. All data are quality controlled, especially the cloud radar data, which are accurately calibrated, matched, and corrected for gas and liquid-hydrometeor attenuation, ground clutter, and range folding. We finally present an analysis of the temperature dependence of Doppler, dual-wavelength, and polarimetric radar variables, to illustrate how the dataset can be used for cloud microphysical studies. Hail is a type of severe convective weather disaster characterized by abundant water vapor and strong updrafts, resulting in intense and high reflectivity echoes in hail clouds, often accompanied by an overhanging form. Although hail research has made great progress, it is still challenging to achieve accurate identification of hail. Compared with traditional radar, dual-polarization radar can output a variety of polarization parameters and provide information about the shape and phase of precipitation particles, which is conducive to the identification of hail particles. In this study, dual-polarization radar data are used to explore more hail features from various perspectives, starting with the morphological characteristics of hail clouds and using common feature extraction methods in the field of image processing. A comprehensive approach to high-dimensional features is developed. Using machine learning methods, hail identification models are constructed in both the traditional mechanism feature space and the new feature space constructed in this study. Gravity wave (GW) activities play a prominent role in the complex coupling process of wave–wave and wave–background circulation around mid-low-latitude and equatorial areas. The wavelengths are wide, from about 10 m to 100 km, with a period from minutes to hours. However, the oscillations of GW activities are apparently different between the period bands of 0.1 to 1 h (HF) and 1 to 5 h (LF). To further understand the characteristics of GW activities, the neutral winds during 2008–2009 with a resolution of 3 min obtained from a medium-frequency (MF) radar in Kunming (25.6° N, 103.8° E) were analyzed. Using two numerical filters, the HF and LF GWs were estimated. Interestingly, the power spectral density grows larger as the frequency increases. It linearly falls with decreasing frequency when the period is less than 2 h. The seasonal variations in both HF and LF GWs are strongly demonstrated in August–September, November, and February–March with maximum meridional variances of 1100 m2 s−2 and 500 m2 s−2 and maximum zonal variances of 800 m2 s−2 and 350 m2 s−2 in, respectively. The turbulent velocity was also calculated and shows similar oscillations with GW activities. Furthermore, the GW propagation direction exhibits strong seasonal variations, which may be dependent on the location of the motivating source and background wind. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

So far, the least is known about the D-region ionosphere out of the entire ionosphere due to the lack of a conventional detecting method and continuous data accumulation. Medium frequency (MF) radar is an important conventional tool for understanding the D-region ionosphere by measuring the electron density (Ne) within the height range of 60–90 km. To investigate the statistical variation of the D-region, especially at the mid-low latitude area, this study presents the statistical variations in the D-region Ne with the solar zenith angle (SZA), season, and altitude observed by Kunming MF radar (25.6° N, 103.8° E) under low solar activity (2008–2009). The diurnal variation of Ne behaves like typical diurnal changes, which are closely consistent with the SZA. The outstanding feature, the diurnal asymmetry phenomenon, significantly appears in different seasons and at different altitudes. The Ne has obvious semi-annual characteristics, and is larger in summer and fall and the smallest in winter. Compared to other seasons, the variation in the Ne with altitude is the most stable in summer. Due to the impacts of the highest SZA, the value of Ne in winter is the smallest, with a maximum value of less than 300 electrons/cm3, and the largest in summer and fall, with a maximum of 472 electrons/cm3. Particularly, the peaks of Ne above 76 km do not always appear at the time when the SZA is the smallest (at noon). Both the simulations by the International Reference Ionosphere (IRI2016) and observations using MF radar present a strong positive correlation with solar radiation. Meanwhile, it cannot be ignored that there were still large differences between the simulations and observations. To quantitatively analyze the differences between the observations and simulations, the observed value was subtracted from the simulated value. The results show that the maximum value between them was up to 350 electrons/cm3, and the minimum difference appeared at around 72 km, with a value less than 100 electrons/cm3. Dual-polarization radar data are useful for numerical models to improve precipitation forecasts. For an extremely heavy precipitation event that occurred in Central China on 11 August 2021, the hydrometeor concentration and water vapor content used in the initial field of the Weather Research and Forecasting (version 4.1) model are retrieved by the statistical relationship of relative humidity with dual-polarization radar reflectivity in Suizhou City of Central China. Three experiments are conducted, and the simulation results are compared after assimilating the radar data. The results indicate that the multiple factors contributing to this extreme heavy precipitation event included the divergence of upper-level airflows, the middle- and low-level low vortex/shear, the easterly jet stream in front of the low vortex, and the continuous intrusion of cold air on the ground. In addition, with the retrieval of the hydrometeor concentration and water vapor content, the composite reflectivity forecast results are more similar to the observations. Also, the location and intensity of the short-term extremely heavy precipitation event are less different from the observations. In addition, by cyclically adjusting the hydrometeor concentration and water vapor content in the initial field, we can obtain better forecasts of the reflectivity and short-term extremely heavy precipitation, and this improvement can be maintained for approximately 3 h. The recent development of satellite products for observing precipitation based on different technologies (microwaves, infrared, etc.) allows for near-real-time meteorological studies. The purpose of this article is to evaluate 11 satellite products (GHE, PDIR, IMERG-Early v6, IMERG-Late v6, CMORPH v0.x, CMORPH-RT v0.x, GSMaP-NRT v7, GSMaP-NRT-GC v7, GSMaP-NOW v7, GSMaP-NOW-GC v7, and DATABOURG) currently available and compare them to 2 ground-based radar networks (PANTHERE and OPERA) and the French rain-gauge network RADOME. Two case studies of intense precipitation over France (22 to 25 April 2022 and 24 to 29 June 2022) were selected. The radar estimations are closer to the RADOME observations than the satellite-based estimations, which tend to globally underestimate the precipitation amounts over the areas of interest while OPERA tends to strongly overestimate precipitation amounts during the June case study. The PANTHERE radar product and the carrier-to-noise product DATABOURG shows promising results. Near-real-time satellite products tend to have closer precipitation amounts to the reference dataset than satellite products with a shorter latency. Radar reflectivity plays a crucial role in detecting heavy rainfall and is an important tool for meteorological analysis. However, the coverage of a single radar is limited, leading to the use of satellite data as a complementary source. Consequently, how to bridge the gap between radar and satellite data has become a growing research focus. In this paper, we present MAFormer, a novel model for reconstructing radar reflectivity using satellite data within the Transformer framework. MAFormer consists of two modules: the Axial Local Attention Module and the Mixup Global Attention Module, which extract both local saliency and global similarity. Quantitative and qualitative experiments demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method. Specifically, the MAFormer model exhibits notable advancements when compared to state-of-the-art deep learning techniques. It demonstrates an improvement ranging from 0.01 to 0.05 in terms of the Heidke skill score, indicating its superior performance. Additionally, MAFormer effectively mitigates false alarm rates by approximately 0.016 to 0.04, which further highlights its enhanced accuracy and reliability. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

A great interest has been directed towards high frequency surface wave radar (HFSWR), because it is applied as long‐range early warning and real‐time measurements of sea surface condition tools in maritime surveillance. However, the unwanted reflection from the ionosphere (ionosphere clutter) damages the consistent detection performance of HFSWR. Target detection and environmental information extraction from radar echoes are primarily determined by the extent to which the medium contaminates the transmitted signals. Although the ionospheric signal corruption mechanisms are complex and various, a number of eliminating contamination approaches have been developed in the last 50 years. The purpose of this paper is providing an overview of the past and current clutter theoretical models and clutter suppression techniques for HFSWR system. The experimental results involved in the complex long‐term ionosphere observation and ionosphere echo analysis are first discussed. Special attention is paid to the correlation between the signal degradation sources and eliminating clutter techniques. Furthermore, the clutter suppression methods are classified based on the design idea. The specific clutter suppression methods as well as its operation principle are briefly introduced. Finally, several research trends and open issues are presented, with emphasis on the need for proactively controlling the radar design cost and generally agreed‐upon standards. Active deception jamming recognition has gained significant attention as a crucial aspect of modern electronic warfare, and a large quantity of jamming recognition methods based on either artificial or deep learning methods have been proposed to date. In actual complex battlefields, the abundant deceptive jamming signals are extremely difficult to obtain and the deceptive jamming signals leveraged by the adversarial jammers are often significantly influenced by noise. To address these challenges a Siamese squeeze wavelet attention network (SSWAN) for radar active deception jamming recognition method is proposed. By constructing a wavelet attention module (WAM), the fine‐grained time‐frequency texture features of echo and jamming signals are preferably extracted even under prohibitively strong noise scenarios. Specifically, the Siamese structure is employed as the main backbone network to measure the similarity between jamming signals and make full use of the training samples; besides, the squeeze learning module is embedded to maintain lightweight and prevent overfitting. Experimental results demonstrate that at a jamming‐to‐noise ratio (JNR) of −8 dB, the proposed method achieves recognition accuracies above 96.3% for 6‐class and multi‐class combinational active deceptive jamming types. The transmit waveform with ambiguity function specifications in the range‐Doppler plane has been of great interest in traditional single antenna radar systems in recent years. This paper considers the design of waveform sets with a desired slow‐time ambiguity function for multiple‐input multiple‐output radar. Specifically, it is desirable that the ambiguity function has low sidelobes where clutter occurs, as this reduces the impact of the clutter on target detection. Instead of unimodular waveforms, the authors consider amplitude modulation signals and introduce the bound constraint on signal amplitudes into the optimisation for the consideration of transmitter efficiency. The design problem is formulated as minimising the weighted integrated sidelobes level of the ambiguity function over the range‐Doppler plane under bound constraints. The resulting problem has a highly non‐linear objective function and is constrained by bound constraints and quadratic equality (constant energy) constraints, making it difficult to solve. The authors develop an efficient algorithm based on the sequential quadratic programming technique and non‐linear conjugate gradient method to solve it. Short‐wave source localisation has an important role in many fields. A two‐stage iterative algorithm is proposed based on the ionospheric virtual height (IVH) model using the direction of arrival (DOA) and time difference of arrival (TDOA) measurements, which is divided into DOA stage and TDOA stage. The optimisation problem of the TDOA stage can be obtained by using the result of DOA stage and TDOA measurements. During the solution process, the non‐convex quadratic equation constraints are converted to linear constraints, which can lead to the algorithm converges to the global optimal solution and the optimal solution can be analytically solved. The theoretical analysis demonstrates that the localisation accuracy of both stages can reach the corresponding constrained Cramér‐Rao lower bound (CCRLB). Due to the controllable degrees of freedom of frequency diverse array in the distance dimension, the frequency diverse multiple‐input multiple‐output (FDA‐MIMO) radar can easily deal with mainlobe interference, which is often difficult to solve in traditional phased arrays. Nevertheless, the performance of FDA‐MIMO radar will suffer from degradation in the scenario where spectrum interferences and signal‐dependent interferences coexist. In order to solve this problem, a novel FDA‐MIMO radar framework via antenna switching is proposed. Based on this framework, an effective method for jointly optimising antenna selection and beamforming against spectrum interferences and signal‐dependent interferences is developed. The resulting optimization problem is nonconvex and NP‐hard owing to the integer constraints caused by antenna selection. By relaxing the integer constraints, the original problem can be transformed into a convex optimization form and an iterative reweighting strategy is used to force the obtained solution to satisfy the integer constraints. Simulation examples show that the proposed algorithm has better performance in output signal‐to‐interference‐plus‐noise ratio (SINR) and beampattern radiation performance than the existing competitive methods. Interrupted sampling repeater jamming can produce numerous active false targets with high fidelity, which is a significant challenge for coherent pulse radar. This poses a threat to the effectiveness of anti‐jamming technology, such as time‐frequency analysis and frequency agility for conventional constant pulse repetition interval (PRI) radar, which will render the radar inoperable to detect and track the actual target. A random PRI and intra‐pulse frequency agile radar waveform with low interception properties is proposed, which can effectively restrict the acquisition of radar waveform parameters by the jammer, destroy the coherence of jamming signals, and capture the range‐dimensional centroid feature of the echo. This paper discusses the adaptive detection of extended radar targets buried in Gaussian clutter, assuming a diffuse multipath environment. The target return signal from each range cell is modeled as the sum of a deterministic data vector, which includes an unknown scaling factor representing the direct path component, and a randomly distributed data vector in a Gaussian distribution with unknown covariance matrix representing multipath echoes. During the design phase, it is assumed that the primary data covariance matrix falls within the vicinity of a sample covariance matrix that is devised from the secondary data set. The paper proposes a constraint Generalized Likelihood Ratio Test (GLRT) for the adaptive detection problem of extended radar targets in diffuse multipath environments, and conducts a performance analysis comparing the developed algorithm with well-known adaptive detectors in the literature. The results and performance analysis demonstrate that the proposed approach enhances the detection performance of extended radar targets in environments with diffuse multipath. In recent years, super-resolution imaging techniques have been intensely introduced to enhance the azimuth resolution of real aperture scanning radar (RASR). However, there is a paucity of research on the subject of sea surface imaging with small incident angles for complex scenarios. This research endeavors to explore super-resolution imaging for sea surface monitoring, with a specific emphasis on grounded or shipborne platforms. To tackle the inescapable interference of sea clutter, it was segregated from the imaging objects and was modeled alongside I/Q channel noise within the maximum likelihood framework, thus mitigating clutter's impact. Simultaneously, for characterizing the non-stationary regions of the monitoring scene, we harnessed the Markov random field (MRF) model for its two-dimensional (2D) spatial representational capacity, augmented by a quadratic term to bolster outlier resilience. Subsequently, the maximum a posteriori (MAP) criterion was employed to unite the ML function with the statistical model regarding imaging scene. This hybrid model forms the core of our super-resolution methodology. Finally, a fast iterative threshold shrinkage method was applied to solve this objective function, yielding stable estimates of the monitored scene. Through the validation of simulation and real data experiments, the superiority of the proposed approach in recovering the monitoring scenes and clutter suppression has been verified. Frequency modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar is increasingly used for various detection and classification applications in different fields, such as autonomous vehicles and mining fields. Our objective is to increase the classification accuracy of objects detected using millimeter-wave radar. We have developed an approach based on millimeter-wave radar. The proposed solution combines the use of an FMCW radar, a YOLOv7 model, and the Pix2Pix architecture. The latter architecture was used to reduce noise in the heatmaps. We create a dataset of 4125 heatmaps annotated with five different object classes. To evaluate the proposed approach, 14 different models were trained using the annotated heatmap dataset. In the initial experiment, we compared the models using metrics such as mean average precision (mAP), precision, and recall. The results showed that the proposed model of YOLOv7 (YOLOv7-PM) was the most efficient in terms of mAP_0.5, which reached 90.1%, and achieved a mAP_0.5:0.95 of 49.51%. In the second experiment, we compared the models with a cleaned dataset generated using the Pix2Pix architecture. As a result, we observed improved performances, with the Pix2Pix + YOLOv7-PM model achieving the best mAP_0.5, reaching 91.82%, and a mAP_0.5:0.95 of 52.59%. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This paper describes a methodological analysis of the Brillouin precursor formation to understand the impairments undergone by like-noise and random noise waveforms propagating through naturally dispersive media commonly found in radar applications. By means of a frequency-domain methodology based on considering the frequency response of the medium under study, the effect of these dispersive media on the evolution of an input signal can be seen as frequency filtering. The simulations were performed at a center frequency of 1.5 GHz and for a signal bandwidth of 3 GHz. Four random noise signals were considered: Barker codes, PRBS codes, Frank codes, Costas codes and additive white Gaussian noise. The experienced impairments were assessed in terms of cross-correlation function (CCF) degradation. The differences in the behavior of each type of phase and frequency coded signal to face the dispersive propagation have been demonstrated in terms of parameters used for information retrieval: peak amplitude decay, CCF secondary sidelobe level and multipath detectability. 4D millimeter wave (mmWave) imaging radar is a new type of vehicle sensor technology that is critical to autonomous driving systems due to its lower cost and robustness in complex weather. However, the sparseness and noise of point clouds are still the main problems restricting the practical application of 4D imaging radar. In this paper, we introduce SMIFormer, a multi-view feature fusion network framework based on 4D radar single-modal input. SMIFormer decouples the 3D point cloud scene into 3 independent but interrelated perspectives, including bird's-eye view (BEV), front view (FV), and side view (SV), thereby better modeling the entire 3D scene and overcoming the shortcomings of insufficient feature representation capabilities under single-view built from extremely sparse point clouds. For multi-view features, we proposed multi-view feature interaction (MVI) to exploit the inner relationship between different views by integrating features from intra-view interaction and cross-view interaction. We evaluated the proposed SMIFormer on the View-of-Delft (VoD) dataset. The mAP of our method reached 48.77 and 71.13 in the fully annotated area and the driving corridor area, respectively. Human movement recognition is the use of perceptual technology to collect some of the limb or body movements presented. This practice involves the use of wireless signals, processing, and classification to identify some of the regular movements of the human body. It has a wide range of application prospects, including in intelligent pensions, remote health monitoring, and child supervision. Among the traditional human movement recognition methods, the widely used ones are video image-based recognition technology and Wi-Fi-based recognition technology. However, in some dim and imperfect weather environments, it is not easy to maintain a high performance and recognition rate for human movement recognition using video images. There is the problem of a low recognition degree for Wi-Fi recognition of human movement in the case of a complex environment. Most of the previous research on human movement recognition is based on LiDAR perception technology. LiDAR scanning using a three-dimensional static point cloud can only present the point cloud characteristics of static objects; it struggles to reflect all the characteristics of moving objects. In addition, due to its consideration of privacy and security issues, the dynamic millimeter-wave radar point cloud used in the previous study on the existing problems of human body movement recognition performance is better, with the recognition of human movement characteristics in non-line-of-sight situations as well as better protection of people's privacy. In this paper, we propose a human motion feature recognition system (PNHM) based on spatiotemporal information of the 3D point cloud of millimeter-wave radar, design a neural network based on the network PointNet++ in order to effectively recognize human motion features, and study four human motions based on the threshold method. The data set of the four movements of the human body at two angles in two experimental environments was constructed. This paper compares four standard mainstream 3D point cloud human action recognition models for the system. The experimental results show that the recognition accuracy of the human body's when walking upright can reach 94%, the recognition accuracy when moving from squatting to standing can reach 84%, that when moving from standing to sitting can reach 87%, and the recognition accuracy of falling can reach 93%. Forward collision warning (FCW) is a critical technology to improve road safety and reduce traffic accidents. However, the existing multi-sensor fusion methods for FCW suffer from a high false alarm rate and missed alarm rate in complex weather and road environments. For these issues, this paper proposes a decision-level fusion collision warning strategy. The vision algorithm and radar tracking algorithm are improved in order to reduce the false alarm rate and omission rate of forward collision warning. Firstly, this paper proposes an information entropy-based memory index for an adaptive Kalman filter for radar target tracking that can adaptively adjust the noise model in a variety of complex environments. Then, for visual detection, the YOLOv5s model is enhanced in conjunction with the SKBAM (Selective Kernel and Bottleneck Attention Mechanism) designed in this paper to improve the accuracy of vehicle target detection. Finally, a decision-level fusion warning fusion strategy for millimeter-wave radar and vision fusion is proposed. The strategy effectively fuses the detection results of radar and vision and employs a minimum safe distance model to determine the potential danger ahead. Experiments are conducted under various weather and road conditions, and the experimental results show that the proposed algorithm reduces the false alarm rate by 11.619% and the missed alarm rate by 15.672% compared with the traditional algorithm. The results are presented of combined measurements by the SWARM spacecraft (SC) and European incoherent scatter radar on Svalbard for two events of simultaneous observations: in the nighttime ionosphere during substorm activation on January 9, 2014, and in the daytime ionosphere under quiet conditions on February 5, 2017. Onboard magnetometers of the SWARM SC provide measurements of field-aligned current density over the ionosphere. The radar, which is under the flyby trajectory at this time, measures the vertical distribution of the electron density (Ne). Experiments have shown that, under disturbed nighttime conditions, at the location of the field-aligned current flowing from the ionosphere, the plasma density increases throughout the entire slab of the ionosphere and the change in Ne is in agreement with theoretical estimates. In the daytime quiet ionosphere, Ne increases only in the F layer, but practically does not change in the E layer. The differences may be due to the fact that, in the first case, the carriers of the upward directed current are represented by the entire energy spectrum of auroral electrons of 1–10 keV, and in the second case only by the low-energy part. Planetary radar observations have provided invaluable information on the solar system through both ground-based and space-based observations. In this overview article, we summarize how radar observations have contributed in planetary science, how the radar technology as a remote-sensing method for planetary exploration and the methods to interpret the radar data have advanced in the eight decades of increasing use, where the field stands in the early 2020s, and what are the future prospects of the ground-based facilities conducting planetary radar observations and the planned spacecraft missions equipped with radar instruments. The focus of the paper is on radar as a remote-sensing technique using radar instruments in spacecraft orbiting planetary objects and in Earth-based radio telescopes, whereas ground-penetrating radar systems on landers are mentioned only briefly. The key scientific developments are focused on the search for water ice in the subsurface of the Moon, which could be an invaluable in situ resource for crewed missions, dynamical and physical characterization of near-Earth asteroids, which is also crucial for effective planetary defense, and a better understanding of planetary geology. The feasibility of using millimeter-wave radars for wave observations was investigated in this study. The radars used in this study operate at a center frequency of 77.572 GHz. To investigate the feasibility of wave observations and extract one-dimensional and two-dimensional wave spectra, arrays consisting of multiple radar units were deployed for observations in both laboratory and field environments. Based on the data measured with the millimeter-wave radars, one-dimensional wave spectra and two-dimensional wave directional spectra were evaluated using the periodogram method and the Bayesian directional spectrum estimation method (BDM), respectively. Meanwhile, wave parameters such as the significant wave height, wave period, and wave direction were also calculated. Via comparative experiments with a capacitive wave height meter in a wave tank and RADAC's WG5-HT-CP radar in an offshore field, the viability of using millimeter-wave radars to observe water waves was validated. The results indicate that the one-dimensional wave spectra measured with the millimeter-wave radars were consistent with those measured with the mature commercial capacitive wave height meter and the WG5-HT-CP wave radar. Via wave direction measurement experiments conducted in a wave tank and offshore environment, it is evident that the wave directions retrieved with the millimeter-wave radars were in good alignment with the actual wave directions. Radar reflectivity images have the potential to provide vital information on the development of convective cloud interiors, which can play a critical role in precipitation prediction. However, traditional prediction methods face challenges in preserving the high-frequency component, leading to blurred prediction results. To address this issue and accurately estimate radar reflectivity intensity, this paper proposes a novel reflectivity image prediction approach based on the Spatial Memory in Memory (Spatial MIM) networks and the Pix2Pix networks. Firstly, a rough radar reflectivity image prediction is made using the Spatial MIM network. Secondly, the prediction results from the Spatial MIM network are fed into the Pix2pix network, which improves the high-frequency component of the predicted image and solves the image blurring issue. Finally, the proposed approach is evaluated using data from Oklahoma in the United States during the second and third quarters of 2021. High-frequency radars (HFRs) are important for remote sensing of the marine environment due to their ability to provide real-time, wide-coverage, and high-resolution measurements of the ocean surface current, wave height, and wind speed. However, due to the intricate multidimensional processing demands (e.g., time, Doppler, and space) for internal data and effective suppression of external noise, conducting quality control (QC) on radar-measured data is of great importance. In this paper, we first present a comprehensive quality evaluation model for both radial current and synthesized vector current obtained by direction-finding (DF) HFRs. In the proposed model, the quality factor (QF) is calculated for each current cell to evaluate its reliability. The QF for the radial current depends on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and DF factor of the first-order Bragg peak region in the range–Doppler (RD) spectrum, and the QF for the synthesized vector current can be calculated using an error propagation model based on geometric dilution of precision (GDOP). A QC method is then proposed for processing HFR-derived surface current data via the following steps: (1) signal preprocessing is performed to minimize the effect of unwanted external signals such as radio frequency interference and ionospheric clutter; (2) radial currents with low QFs and outliers are removed; (3) the vector currents with low QFs are also removed before spatial smoothing and interpolation. The proposed QC method is validated using a one-month-long dataset collected by the Ocean State Monitoring and Analyzing Radar, model S (OSMAR-S). The improvement in the current quality is proven to be significant. Using the buoy data as ground truth, after applying QC, the correlation coefficients (CCs) of the radial current, synthesized current speed, and synthesized current direction are increased by 4.33~102.91%, 1.04~90.74%, and 1.20~62.67%, respectively, and the root mean square errors (RMSEs) are decreased by 2.51~49.65%, 7.86~27.22%, and 1.68~28.99%, respectively. Inland shipping is of great significance in economic development, and ship surveillance and classification are of great importance for ship management and dispatch. For river ship detection, ultrahigh-frequency (UHF) radar is an effective equipment owing to its wide coverage and easy deployment. The extension in range, Doppler, and azimuth and target recognition are two main problems in UHF ship detection. Clustering is a necessary step to get the center of an extended target. However, it is difficult to distinguish between different target echoes when they overlap each other in range, Doppler, and azimuth and so far practical methods for extended target recognition with UHF radar have been rarely discussed. In this study, a two-stage target classification method is proposed for UHF radar ship detection. In the first stage, grid-based gradient descent (GBGD) clustering is proposed to distinguish targets with three-dimensional (3D) information. Then in the second stage, the inverse synthetic aperture radar (ISAR) imaging algorithm is employed to differentiate ships of different types. The simulation results show that the proposed method achieves a 20% higher clustering accuracy than other methods when the targets have close 3D information. The feasibility of ISAR imaging for target classification using UHF radar is also validated via simulation. Some experimental results are also given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method. This paper comprehensively analyzed two consecutive tornado events associated with heavy precipitation during the Mei-yu season (a period of continuous rainy weather that occurs in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China from mid-June to mid-July each year) and detailed the formation and development process of the tornadoes using Doppler weather radar, wind profiler radar, ERA5 reanalysis data, ground automatic station data and other multi-source data. The results showed that: (1) Small-scale vortices were triggered and developed during the eastward movement of the low vortex, forming two tornadoes successively on the eastern section of the Mei-yu front. (2) The presence of a gap on the front side of the reflectivity factor profile indicated that strong incoming airflow entered the updraft. Mesocyclones were detected with decreasing heights and increasing shear strengths. The bottom height of the tornado vortex signature (TVS) dropped to 0.7 km, and the shear value increased to 55.4 × 10−3 s−1. Tornado debris signatures (TDSs) could be seen with a low cross-correlation coefficient (CC) value area of 0.85–0.9 in the mesocyclone. The difference between the lowest-level difference velocity (LLDV) and the maximum difference velocity (MXDV) reached the largest value when a tornado occurred. (3) The continuously enhanced low-level jet propagated downward to form a super-low-level jet, and the strong wind direction and wind speed convergence in the boundary layer created a warm, moist and unstable atmosphere in Suzhou. With the entrainment of dry air, the northwest dry jet and the southeast moist jet stimulated the formation of a miniature supercell. (4) The low-level vertical wind shear of 0–1 km increased significantly upon tornado occurrence, which was more conducive to the formation and intensification of horizontal vorticity tubes. Encountering updrafts and downdrafts, the vorticity tubes might have been stretched and intensified. The first lightning jumps appeared 15 min and 66 min earlier than the Kunshan Bacheng tornado and the Taicang Liuhe tornado. The use of radial velocity information from the European weather radar network is a challenging task, because of a heterogeneous radar network and the different ways of providing the Doppler velocity information. Preprocessing is therefore needed to harmonize the data. Radar observations consist of a very high resolution dataset, which means that it is both demanding to process as well as that the inherent resolution is much higher than the model resolution. One way of reducing the number of data is to create "super observations" (SO) by averaging observations in a predefined area. This paper describes the preprocessing necessary to use radar radial velocities in the data assimilation where the SO construction is included. Our main focus is to optimize the use of radial velocities in the HARMONIE-AROME numerical weather model. Several experiments were run to find the best settings for first-guess check limits as well as a tuning of the observation error value. The optimal size of the SO and the corresponding thinning distance for radar radial velocities was also studied. It was found that the radial velocity information and the reflectivity from weather radars can be treated differently when it comes to the size of the SO and the thinning. A positive impact was found when adding the velocities together with the reflectivity using the same SO size and thinning distance, but the best results were found when the SO and thinning distance for the radial velocities are smaller than the corresponding values for reflectivity. Objectives: The ground-based radar has features such as working all-time in all-weather, providing continuous observations with high spatiotemporal resolutions and can monitor landslides with high precision in near real-time. However, atmospheric effects represent one major limitation of ground-based radar, due to the spatiotemporal variations of the troposphere, especially in mountainous areas. Atmospheric variations are often treated as static signals and corrected by the range function model which can be unreliable, particularly when strong dynamic atmospheric turbulence occurs. Methods: Based on its successful experience in the generic atmospheric correction online service for interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR), the ground based iterative tropospheric decomposition (GBITD) model is utilized to decompose the tropospheric delay into stratification and turbulence components, and perform atmospheric correction. The GBITD model doesn't require global navigation satellite system or any external meteorological observations, which makes it flexible for InSAR atmospheric correction. Results: The application of the GBITD model to the 2018 Baige landslide suggests that the root mean square of two interferograms with temporal baselines of 2 min and 10 min decreased from 1.43 mm and 1.69 mm to 0.21 mm and 0.24 mm, respectively. The maximum cumulative displacement derived from the 778 images acquired during the period from 4 to 10 December 2018 was 1.4 m with the maximum displacement rate of 0.23 m/d. Conclusions: The experimental results show that the GBITD method performes best compared against the homogeneous model and the stratified model in complex mountainous areas. Furthermore, Ground-based radar has obvious unique advantages in landslide monitoring, which can provide strong technical support for landslide emergency monitoring and risk assessment. The three-dimensional (3D) structure of precipitation systems is highly dependent on hydrometeor formation processes and microphysics. This study aims to characterize distinct vertical profiles of precipitation regimes by relying on the availability of a high-quality, spatially dense radar network and its capability to observe the 3D structure of the storms. A deep-learning-based framework, coupled with unsupervised clustering methods, is developed to identify types of precipitation structures irrespective of their physical properties. A 6-month period of 3D reflectivity profiles from the Multi-Radar Multi-Sensor (MRMS) network is used to identify different regimes and investigate their properties with respect to the underlying environmental conditions. Dominant features retrieved from radar reflectivity profiles using convolutional neural-network-based autoencoders are employed to identify similar-looking vertical structures using coupled k-means and agglomerative clustering algorithms. The k-means method identifies distinct groups, while the agglomerative clustering visualizes intercluster relationships. The framework identifies 18 clusters that can be broadly combined into five groups of varied echo-top heights. The 18 clusters demonstrate variability with respect to structural features and precipitation rate/type, implying that profiles in each group belong to a physically different precipitation regime. An independent analysis of the regime properties is conducted by matching the MRMS reflectivity profiles with environmental parameters derived from the High-Resolution Rapid Refresh model forecasts. The distribution of the environmental variables confirms cluster-specific feature properties, confirming the physics-based regime separation across the clusters and their dependence on the vertical structure. The identified precipitation regimes can assist in developing physics-guided retrievals and studying precipitation regimes. Significance Statement: This study proposes a systematic model to identify precipitation profiles of distinct vertical structures and evaluate their dependence on environmental conditions. The model was developed using ground-based radar observations; however, there is potential to extend this model to reflectivity profiles from both ground- and satellite-based sensors. In addition, the identified precipitation regime clusters could be a proxy for the vertical structure of precipitation systems and assist in determining the structural variability within traditional precipitation type classification (e.g., convective versus stratiform). Moreover, identifying the precipitation regimes could also be used to improve satellite-based precipitation retrievals. Calibrating the relative positional posture of the roadside sensor with respect to the road is crucial for target tracking and sensor fusion. However, most previous studies rely on prior information or require additional manual measurements, which increases calibration error and labor costs. This paper proposes an automatic extrinsic parameters calibration method for roadside integrated radar camera fusion sensors for the first time. In particular, we leverage the radar camera fusion framework to automatically reconstruct the road plane. Specifically, to integrate sensing abilities, a stable bidirectional selection association method is adopted to match radar and camera trajectories. Based on the association results, the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) is adopted to fuse pixel positions and three-dimensional (3D) velocities of vehicles, and then a series of 3D positions of vehicle bottoms are obtained to reconstruct the road plane. Due to limitations in computing power, the passive radar based on GNSS signal may not be able to use all the GNSS signals, requiring to make signal selection. Based on CRLB, a new radiation sources adaptive selection method for passive radar is proposed. With the goal of minimizing the CRLB of GNSS signals and the number of GNSS signals as constraints, an adaptive selection model is established. Simulation experiments were conducted using the selection model and particle filter algorithm. Experimental results show that the calculation accuracy of this algorithm is slightly lower than the tracking results obtained using all six satellites, but the calculation time is greatly reduced, reducing the requirement for radar computing power. The interferometric radar altimeter (IRA) is an innovative remote sensing sensor that enables the observation of mesoscale and submesoscale (meso–submesoscale) ocean dynamic phenomena. The charge-neutral atmosphere introduces path delay and bending in signal propagation. In this study, three types of sea surface height (SSH) errors caused by charge-neutral atmosphere propagation path for IRA were identified: differential delay error (DDE), path delay error (PDE), and path bending error (PBE). Among them, DDE exhibits a proportionality to the negative zenith neutral delay (ZND) and demonstrates a significant increase with the incident angle; PDE is solely reliant on the ZND; PBE is like DDE in trend and magnitude resembling a ramp. Intriguingly, PBE exhibits insensitivity to variations in the charge-neutral atmosphere, behaving more like a systematic error. Theoretically, PBE leads to an increase in the SSH error of about 1.2 cm at far range for SWOT. The ZND spectrum fitted from the Jason-3 zenith delay correction data is additionally utilized to simulate the spatial distribution of ZND anomaly within the SWOT observation swaths. Then, the impact of PDE anomaly (PDEA), PBE, and DDE anomaly (DDEA) on the observation performance of SWOT is also considered in conjunction with SSH data provided by HYCOM. The findings indicate that both PDEA and PBE significantly reduce IRA's performance in oceanic phenomena, while the impact of DDEA can be disregarded. The PBE can distort the sea surface trend and increases the mean sea level within the range, requiring further attention. Significance Statement: This paper focuses on how the signal path affects the accuracy of measuring sea surface height (SSH) using the interferometric radar altimeter (IRA) in the charge-neutral atmosphere. The present paper defines three types of SSH errors caused by propagation path to IRA, namely, differential delay error (DDE), path delay error (PDE), and path bending error (PBE). Three types of SSH errors will make a significant impact on the altimetry performance of IRA. Among them, PDE spatial anomaly and PBE will reduce the expected observation performance of the meso–submesoscale ocean phenomena in IRA's swath, while PBE has not received enough attention in previous studies. In this research article, we propose a practical methodology for evaluating the affecting potential of detachment areas in rockfalls. Our innovative approach combines an assessment of the visibility of rockfall source areas, with reference to specific rockfall scenarios and elements at risk, considering the rockfall Susceptibility Index to Failure (SIF) of these areas. The result is the characterization of source areas through a rockfall Source Affecting Index (SAI), which considers both the morphology of the slope and the geostructural conditions of the rock walls. This information can be very useful since it aids in optimizing more in-depth analyses, as well as the placement of monitoring instruments or stabilization systems. The proposed methodology has been implemented in the open-source software QGIS through the development of an easy-to-use plugin named Ranking of the Affecting Potential of Detachment Areas in Rockfalls, or "RADAR". RADAR is designed to be used in conjunction with QPROTO, a well-known QGIS plugin for preliminary rockfall susceptibility/hazard analyses based on a visibility analysis and a simplified mechanical method. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach, an application to a case study located in the Western Alps (Bardonecchia, Italy) is presented and discussed in the paper. As theoretical research further develops, coding metasurfaces have been widely studied and applied due to their uniqueness in digital characterization and sequence arrangement. In this work, based on highly conductive graphene‐assembled film (GAF), an ultralight anisotropic broadband coding metasurface (ABCM) is proposed. The GAF ABCM consists of 16 units with specific phase responses and enables complete metal substitution. By arranging the unit cells in a specific order, the GAF ABCM realizes the functions of anomalous reflection, polarization conversion, and radar cross‐section (RCS) reduction. Results validate that the GAF ABCM has a measured 10 dB normal incidence backward RCS reduction within the working frequency band of 7–18 GHz, which fully covers the X‐band and Ku‐band for radar application. Furthermore, due to the lightweight property of GAF, the density of the GAF ABCM is only 0.06 g/cm3 (surface mass density of 0.038 g/cm2). The aims of the present study were to: 1) investigate the within and between-session reliability of the Trackman 4 launch monitor system, and 2) determine the inter-relationships of some of these commonly used metrics. Golfers attended two test sessions at an indoor golf academy and performed 10 shots using their own driver. Results showed excellent within and between-session reliability for CHS (ICC = 0.99; SEM = 1.64–1.67 mph), ball speed (ICC = 0.97–0.99; SEM = 2.46–4.42 mph) and carry distance (ICC = 0.91–0.97; SEM = 7.80–14.21 mph). In contrast, spin rate showed the worst reliability (ICC = 0.02–0.60; SEM = 240.93–454.62 º/s) and also exhibited significant differences between test sessions (g = –0.41; p < 0.05), as did smash factor (g = 0.47; p < 0.05) and dynamic loft (g = –0.21; p < 0.05). Near perfect associations were evident in both test sessions between CHS and ball speed (r = 0.98–0.99), CHS and carry distance (r = 0.94–0.95), ball speed and carry distance (r = 0.97–0.98), and launch angle and dynamic loft (r = 0.98–0.99). Collectively, CHS, ball speed and carry distance serve as the most consistently reliable metrics making them excellent choices for practitioners working with golfers. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Background: Informal and unregulated rural medical practitioners (RMPs) provide healthcare services to about two-thirds of people in Bangladesh, although their service is assumed to be substandard by qualified providers. As the RMPs are embedded in the local community and provide low-cost services, their practice pattern demands investigation to identify the shortfalls and design effective strategies to ameliorate the service. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in 2015–16 using a convenient sample from all 64 districts of Bangladesh. Personnel practising modern medicine, without any recognized training, or with recognized training but practising outside their defined roles, and without any regulatory oversight were invited to take part in the study. Appropriateness of the diagnosis and the rationality of antibiotic and other drug use were measured as per the Integrated Management of Childhood Illness guideline. Results: We invited 1004 RMPs, of whom 877 consented. Among them, 656 (74.8%) RMPs owned a drugstore, 706 (78.2%) had formal education below higher secondary level, and 844 (96.2%) had informal training outside regulatory oversight during or after induction into the profession. The most common diseases encountered by them were common cold, pneumonia, and diarrhoea. 583 (66.5%) RMPs did not dispense any antibiotic for common cold symptoms. 59 (6.7%) and 64 (7.3%) of them could identify all main symptoms of pneumonia and diarrhoea, respectively. In pneumonia, 28 (3.2%) RMPs dispensed amoxicillin as first-line treatment, 819 (93.4%) dispensed different antibiotics including ceftriaxone, 721 (82.2%) dispensed salbutamol, and 278 (31.7%) dispensed steroid. In diarrhoea, 824 (94.0%) RMPs dispensed antibiotic, 937 (95.4%) dispensed ORS, 709 (80.8%) dispensed antiprotozoal, and 15 (1.7%) refrained from dispensing antibiotic and antiprotozoal together. Conclusions: Inappropriate diagnoses, irrational use of antibiotics and other drugs, and polypharmacy were observed in the practising pattern of RMPs. The government and other stakeholders should acknowledge them as crucial partners in the healthcare sector and consider ways to incorporate them into curative and preventive care. A new dual-frequency Stratospheric Tropospheric (ST) / Meteor radar has been built and installed at the Langfang Observatory in northern China. It utilizes a novel two-frequency system design that allows interleaved operation at 53.8 MHz for ST mode and at 35.0 MHz for Meteor mode, thus optimizing performance for both ST wind retrieval and meteor trail detection. In dedicated meteor mode, the daily meteor count rate reaches over 40,000 and allows wind estimation at finer time resolutions than the 1-hour typical of most meteor radars. The root mean square uncertainty of the ST wind measurements is better than 2 m/s when estimating the line of best fit with radiosonde winds. Preliminary observation results for one month of winter gravity wave (GW) momentum fluxes in the mesosphere, lower stratosphere and troposphere are also presented. Measuring the radar backscatter characteristics of glacier ice at different frequencies and incidence angles is fundamental to predicting the glacier mapping performance of a sensor. However, such measurements at 94 GHz do not exist. To address this knowledge gap, we collected 94 GHz radar backscatter data from the surface of Rhônegletscher in Switzerland using the All‐Weather Volcano Topography Imaging Sensor (AVTIS2) real‐aperture Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave radar. We determine the mean normalized radar cross section σmean0 $\left({\sigma }_{\text{mean}}^{0}\right)$ to be −9.9 dB. The distribution closely follows a log‐normal distribution with a high goodness of fit (R2 = 0.99) which suggests that radar backscatter is diffuse and driven by surface roughness. Further, we quantified the uncertainty of AVTIS2 3D point clouds to be 1.30–3.72 m, which is smaller than other ground‐based glacier surface mapping radars. These results demonstrate that glacier surfaces are an efficient scattering target at 94 GHz, hence demonstrating the suitability of millimeter‐wave radar for glacier monitoring. Plain Language Summary: Radar sensors map glacier surfaces by transmitting a signal at a specific frequency and measuring its return strength when reflected back. This returned signal strength, called radar backscatter, is determined by the characteristics of the glacier surface and varies with radar frequency and sensor viewing angle. Millimeter‐wave radars operating at 94 GHz can acquire high resolution measurements of glaciers in most weather conditions. However, there are currently no measurements of radar backscatter from glacier surfaces at this frequency. We therefore acquired the first ever measurements of 94 GHz radar backscatter from glacier ice. The results are consistent with those expected from randomly rough surfaces, hence we conclude that the roughness of the glacier surface is the primary driver of 94 GHz radar backscatter. We also show that 3D glacier surface mapping at this frequency is more accurate than other ground‐based radars that are employed to map glacier geometries. The results overall indicate that 94 GHz radar is an effective tool for glacier monitoring and thus opens up new possibilities for studying glacier processes. Non-contact gesture recognition is a novel form of human–computer interaction. It has broad prospects in many applications, such as Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality, smart homes and intelligent medical systems. Therefore, it has become a research hotspot in recent years. This paper investigates a lightweight micro-motion gesture recognition method based on Multiple Input and Multiple Output millimeter wave radar. We employ TI's MMWCAS radar, comprising four cascaded AWR1243 radar boards, to collect gesture data. During the data pre-processing stage, we extract the Range-time Map, Doppler-time Map, Azimuth-time Map and Elevation-time Map of the dynamic gestures to characterize the dynamic motion features. These maps are then simplified into a one-dimensional vector to reduce data volume. We propose an 8HBi-GRU model, which combines the Bidirectional Gate Recurrent Unit (Bi-GRU) with a multi-head self-attention mechanism, to identify twelve types of micro-motion gestures using feature vectors. The model achieves an accuracy of 98.24 % , with precision and recall rates exceeding 0.97 and 0.98, respectively, for ten of the gesture types. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed 8HBi-GRU model achieves lightweight gesture recognition rapidly and requires minimal storage space compared to image-based deep learning methods. In radar entomology, one primary challenge is detecting small species (smaller than 5 cm) since these tiny insects reflect radiation that can be poorly observable and, therefore, difficult to interpret. After a literature search on radar entomology, this research found few works where it has been possible to sense insects with dimensions smaller than 5 cm using radars. This paper describes different methodologies to detect Mediterranean fruit flies with 5–6 mm sizes using a pulsed W-band radar and presents the experimental results that validate the procedures. The article's main contribution is the successful detection of Mediterranean fruit flies employing the shadow effect on the backscattered radar signal, achieving an 11% difference in received power when flies are present. So far, according to the information available and the literature search, this work is the first to detect small insects less than 1 cm long using a pulsed radar in W-Band. The results show that the proposed shadow effect is a viable alternative to the current sensors used in smart traps, as it allows not only detection but also counting the number of insects in the trap.
