Objective: To determine the prevalence of surgical wound infections in scheduled HRAEV cesarean sections. Materials and method: Retrospective, descriptive, observational cross-sectional study to determine the prevalence of IHC in patients undergoing scheduled cesarean section with antibiotic prophylaxis in HRAEV. Results: 185 records of patients undergoing scheduled cesarean section were evaluated, aged between 28 to 37 years (48.1%) with an average weight of 81 kg (SD = 10.1) with an average body mass index (BMI) of 30 (SD = 4.24) that is, a BMI between 25.76 and 34.24. Of these, 4 patients (2.16%) presented surgical wound infection during scheduled cesarean section, who received ceftriaxone as PA greater than 120 minutes prior to skin incision, these patients are classified as ASA II and had a BMI greater than 30 kg/m2 and without recorded comorbidities. The most frequent antibiotic prophylaxis time in patients undergoing scheduled cesarean section was >120 minutes (34.08%) and ceftriaxone was administered in 84.86% of the population, which is mostly ASA II (97.83%). 100% of the wounds were superficial. Conclusions: In the present study, it was found that the prevalence of IHC in cesarean sections scheduled in HRAEV was 2.16%, a figure that is below the worldwide prevalence, given that the selected patients did not have some of the risk factors. added risk that increased the risk of SSI compared to other studies. La gestión de la movilidad de personas y vehículos es un aspecto de continuo estudio debido a la relevancia que tiene en la contribución a la polución. El control de los semáforos determina las colas que en los cruces se pueden formar. Habitualmente este control no está adaptado al tráfico existente en un momento concreto, dado que la adaptación implica conocer los peatones y vehículos que se encuentran circulando en cada momento. Para resolver este problema, en el artículo se propone el uso de unos dispositivos inteligentes modulares que permiten detectar los vehículos y cambiar los tiempos de acceso al cruce dependiendo de las circunstancias. Para validar el sistema se ha realizado una simulación generando cargas en MatLab y simulando el control con Simulink. Se ha simulado un ciclo de semáforo con tiempos fijos y se ha comparado con ciclos de tiempos variables en función de la carga de peatones y de vehículos. En el artículo se proponen los indicadores Op y Sat como método de medición de la optimización del algoritmo de control sobre el estado del cruce. Por medio de dichos indicadores se ha comprobado que en el mejor de los casos es posible optimizar en un 50 % el tiempo de espera de forma casi independiente de la carga de tráfico.

Road safety has always been a crucial priority for municipalities, as vehicle accidents claim lives every day. Recent rapid improvements in video collection and processing technologies enable traffic researchers to identify and alleviate potentially dangerous situations. This paper illustrates cutting-edge methods by which conflict hotspots can be detected in various situations and conditions. Both pedestrian–vehicle and vehicle–vehicle conflict hotspots can be discovered, and we present an original technique for including more information in the graphs with shapes. Conflict hotspot detection, volume hotspot detection, and intersection-service evaluation allow us to understand the safety and performance issues and test countermeasures comprehensively. The selection of appropriate countermeasures is demonstrated by extensive analysis and discussion of two intersections in Gainesville, Florida, USA. Just as important is the evaluation of the efficacy of countermeasures. This paper advocates for selection from a menu of countermeasures at the municipal level, with safety as the top priority. Performance is also considered, and we present a novel concept of a performance–safety trade-off at intersections.

Abstract Background Research on gene duplication is abundant and comes from a wide range of approaches, from high-throughput analyses and experimental evolution to bioinformatics and theoretical models. Notwithstanding, a consensus is still lacking regarding evolutionary mechanisms involved in evolution through gene duplication as well as the conditions that affect them. We argue that a better understanding of evolution through gene duplication requires considering explicitly that genes do not act in isolation. It demands studying how the perturbation that gene duplication implies percolates through the web of gene interactions. Due to evolution’s contingent nature, the paths that lead to the final fate of duplicates must depend strongly on the early stages of gene duplication, before gene copies have accumulated distinctive changes. Methods Here we use a widely-known model of gene regulatory networks to study how gene duplication affects network behavior in early stages. Such networks comprise sets of genes that cross-regulate. They organize gene activity creating the gene expression patterns that give cells their phenotypic properties. We focus on how duplication affects two evolutionarily relevant properties of gene regulatory networks: mitigation of the effect of new mutations and access to new phenotypic variants through mutation. Results Among other observations, we find that those networks that are better at maintaining the original phenotype after duplication are usually also better at buffering the effect of single interaction mutations and that duplication tends to enhance further this ability. Moreover, the effect of mutations after duplication depends on both the kind of mutation and genes involved in it. We also found that those phenotypes that had easier access through mutation before duplication had higher chances of remaining accessible through new mutations after duplication. Conclusion Our results support that gene duplication often mitigates the impact of new mutations and that this effect is not merely due to changes in the number of genes. The work that we put forward helps to identify conditions under which gene duplication may enhance evolvability and robustness to mutations.

The main characteristics of photovoltaic (PV) energy and its current development in Latin American and Caribbean countries (LAC); its impact on the electrification of homes, health institutions, and schools in isolated or difficult-to-access communities; and, the advantages thereof are presented and discussed by replacing the use of traditional fuels such as firewood and kerosene in order to improve inhabitants ’health as well as reducing CO2 emissions. Countries like Nicaragua, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, and Chile stand out for their growing PV energy development in the region. A case study of the electrification process by PV systems shows very positive changes are manifested in terms of improving the quality of life of the inhabitants, and especially their physical and mental health state. In addition, CO2 emission reductions from electrifying 216 houses in the nine communities reach an annual amount of 2,164.19 t/yr, reducing firewood consumption by 2,123.39 t/yr and kerosene consumption by 40.80 t/yr However, LAC countries must adopt laws and regulations that regulate the use of PV energy, with an emphasis on recycling systems at the end of their life cycle.

The different models that predict the distribution of species are a useful tool for the evaluation and monitoring of forest resources as they facilitate the planning of their management in a changing climate environment. Recently, a significant number of algorithms have been proposed for this purpose, making it difficult to select the most appropriate to use. The evaluation of performance and predictive stability of these models can elucidate this problem. Distribution data of 17 pine species with high economic importance for Mexico were collected and distribution models were carried out. We carried out a pre-modeling design to select the prediction variables (climatic, edaphic and topographic), after which nine algorithms and an ensemble model were contrasted against one another. The true skill statistic (TSS) and the area under the curve (AUC) were used to evaluate the predictive performance of the models, and the coefficient of variation of the predictions was used to evaluate their stability. The number of predictive variables in the final models fluctuated from 6 to 12; the mean diurnal range and the maximum temperature of warmest month were included in the models for most species. Random forests, the ensemble model, generalized additive models and MaxEnt were the ones that best described the distribution of the species (AUC >0.92 and TSS >0.72); the opposite was found in Bioclim and Domain (AUC0.055); on the contrary, Maxent and the ensemble model attained high predictive stability (CV

The purple non-sulfur bacterium Rhodopseudomonas palustris is recognized as a critical microorganism in the nitrogen and carbon cycle and one of the most common members in wastewater treatment communities. This bacterium is metabolically extremely versatile. It is capable of heterotrophic growth under aerobic and anaerobic conditions, but also able to grow photoautotrophically as well as mixotrophically. Therefore R. palustris can adapt to multiple environments and establish commensal relationships with other organisms, expressing various enzymes supporting degradation of amino acids, carbohydrates, nucleotides, and complex polymers. Moreover, R. palustris can degrade a wide range of pollutants under anaerobic conditions, e.g., aromatic compounds such as benzoate and caffeate, enabling it to thrive in chemically contaminated environments. However, many metabolic mechanisms employed by R. palustris to breakdown and assimilate different carbon and nitrogen sources under chemoheterotrophic or photoheterotrophic conditions remain unknown. Systems biology approaches, such as metabolic modeling, have been employed extensively to unravel complex mechanisms of metabolism. Previously, metabolic models have been reconstructed to study selected capabilities of R. palustris under limited experimental conditions. Here, we developed a comprehensive metabolic model (M-model) for R. palustris Bis A53 (iDT1294) consisting of 2,721 reactions, 2,123 metabolites, and comprising 1,294 genes. We validated the model using high-throughput phenotypic, physiological, and kinetic data, testing over 350 growth conditions. iDT1294 achieved a prediction accuracy of 90% for growth with various carbon and nitrogen sources and close to 80% for assimilation of aromatic compounds. Moreover, the M-model accurately predicts dynamic changes of growth and substrate consumption rates over time under nine chemoheterotrophic conditions and demonstrated high precision in predicting metabolic changes between photoheterotrophic and photoautotrophic conditions. This comprehensive M-model will help to elucidate metabolic processes associated with the assimilation of multiple carbon and nitrogen sources, anoxygenic photosynthesis, aromatic compound degradation, as well as production of molecular hydrogen and polyhydroxybutyrate.

Objetivo: Describir el nivel de competencias profesionales para elaborar una planeación didáctica en los docentes de enfermería de una universidad pública del estado de Puebla y Tabasco. Métodos: El diseño del estudio fue cuantitativo, transversal, descriptivo comparativo de dos Instituciones de Educación Superior. El muestreo fue por conveniencia, con una muestra final de 20 docentes de enfermería de pregrado; 10 del estado de Puebla y 10 de Tabasco. Se utilizó una cédula ex profesa de datos personales y se aplicó un instrumento para evaluar las competencias del docente de enfermería en la planeación didáctica, con un total de 12 reactivos. Este instrumento tiene dos dimensiones; conocimientos y habilidades prácticas del docente. Resultados principales: Se muestra que el 40% de los docentes de enfermería tiene un nivel de competencia bajo y el 30% se encuentra entre un nivel moderado y alto con respecto al conocimiento de la planeación didáctica. Asimismo, referente a las habilidades prácticas, el 65% se ubica en nivel de competencia bajo y tan sólo el 15% presenta un nivel de competencia alto. Conclusión general: La planeación didáctica en enfermería es esencial para asegurar que los estudiantes reciban una educación de calidad y estén preparados para enfrentar los desafíos del campo de la enfermería.

Passionfruits (Passiflora sp.) are widely grown throughout tropical regions of the world. Burgeoning new interest in this fruit in both its fresh and processed forms has led to an increase in planting outside of traditional growing zones. Passionfruit production has increased steadily in the United States and its territories since the 2002 US Department of Agriculture Census of Agriculture; however, little is known about how the industry functions across production areas. To assess passionfruit growers’ production practices and support their needs, we conducted a survey during 2021. That survey consisted of 45 questions pertaining to various aspects of passionfruit production, including horticultural practices, pest management, cultivars grown, and industry challenges and needs. The objectives of the survey were to identify where passionfruit is currently grown in the United States, what production practices are being used, and what problems are being encountered so that researchers and extension personnel could provide remedies in the future. Forty-four surveys were complete and allowed for data analyses. Florida had the most responses (21), followed by Puerto Rico (12), California (6), Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, and the Virgin Islands. Most of the passionfruit production in the United States comprises purple passionfruit (Passiflora edulis f. edulis) or intraspecific red types at 68.2%. This value is driven by the high amounts of purple passionfruit and red passionfruit in Florida and other states. In contrast, nearly all farms in Puerto Rico grow yellow passionfruit (P. edulis f. flavicarpa) and fewer purple types. The main obstacle to obtaining optimum production was labor availability. Managing passionfruit, like many other specialty crops, is labor-intensive and includes many activities that require manual labor, such as weeding, training, pruning, pollination, and harvesting. Other obstacles that were noted were weather variability, vine decline, poor pollination, and availability of high-quality cultivars. Diseases, especially fungal diseases, are of particular concern to growers of passionfruit in the United States, although the identification of specific diseases was limited. Online delivery methods of information ranked high on the list of desired products. Online articles, such as those offered by extension services, were the most preferred, followed by webinars, which comprise a more recently developed method of information delivery. Overall, the survey provided baseline information to further develop initiatives to aid passionfruit production within the United States.

Introduction Two blood brain-derived biomarkers, glial fibrillar acidic protein (GFAP) and ubiquitin carboxy-terminal hydrolase L1 (UCH-L1), can rule out intracranial lesions in patients with mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) when assessed within the first 12 hours. Most elderly patients were excluded from previous studies due to comorbidities. Biomarker use in elderly population could be affected by increased basal levels. This study will assess the performance of an automated test for measuring serum GFAP and UCH-L1 in elderly patients to predict the absence of intracranial lesions on head CT scans after mTBI, and determine both biomarkers reference values in a non-TBI elderly population.Methods and analysis This is a prospective multicentre observational study on elderly patients (≥65 years) that will be performed in Spain, France and Germany. Opuntia ficus-indica has always interacted with many phytophagous insects; two of them are Dactylopius coccus and D. opuntiae. Fine cochineal (D. coccus) is produced to extract carminic acid, and D. opuntiae, or wild cochineal, is an invasive pest of O. ficus-indica in more than 20 countries around the world. Despite the economic and environmental relevance of this cactus, D. opuntiae, and D. coccus, there are few studies that have explored volatile organic compounds (VOCs) derived from the plant–insect interaction. The aim of this work was to determine the VOCs produced by D. coccus and D. opuntiae and to identify different VOCs in cladodes infested by each Dactylopius species. The VOCs (essential oils) were obtained by hydrodistillation and identified by GC-MS. A total of 66 VOCs from both Dactylopius species were identified, and 125 from the Esmeralda and Rojo Pelón cultivars infested by D. coccus and D. opuntiae, respectively, were determined. Differential VOC production due to infestation by each Dactylopius species was also found. Some changes in methyl salicylate, terpenes such as linalool, or the alcohol p-vinylguaiacol were related to Dactylopius feeding on the cladodes of their respective cultivars. Changes in these VOCs and their probable role in plant defense mechanisms should receive more attention because this knowledge could improve D. coccus rearing or its inclusion in breeding programs for D. opuntiae control in regions where it is a key pest of O. ficus-indica.

Cholesterol-7-alpha hydroxylase (CYP7A1) is a key enzyme in the synthesis of bile salts, and its activity can contribute to determining cholesterol levels and, consequently, the risk of developing coronary atherosclerotic disease. We evaluated whether seven (rs3808607 G/T, rs9297994 G/A, rs10504255 A/G, rs8192870 G/T, rs2081687 C/T, rs1457043 C/T, and rs10107182 C/T) polymorphisms located in the promoter and enhancer regions of the CYP7A1 gene, which have not been sufficiently explored, are candidates of risk markers of acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in the Mexican population. These polymorphisms were determined in a group of 1317 patients with ACS and 1046 control subjects. The results showed that, under different inheritance models, the alleles rs9297994 G, rs10504255 G, rs8192870 T, rs2081687 T, and rs10107182 C were significantly associated with an increased risk of ACS (pC < 0.05). In addition, the incidence of dyslipidemia among patients with ACS, notably high total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol, and low HDL-cholesterol plasma levels, were more frequent in carriers of the same five risk alleles associated with ACS (p < 0.05). There was also an unexpected increased incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in patients with ACS who are homozygous for the rs2081687 T, rs9297944 G, rs10504255 G, and rs10107182 C alleles of the CYP7A1 gene, suggesting that such gene variants enhance the development of coronary complications in patients with diabetes (p < 0.05). In summary, our study demonstrated that five polymorphisms situated in the promoter and enhancer regions of the CYP7A1 gene are associated with the risk of ACS and higher incidences of dyslipidemia and T2DM in Mexican patients with ACS.

Because of the physiological and cardiac changes associated with cardiovascular disease, tissue engineering can potentially restore the biological functions of cardiac tissue through the fabrication of scaffolds. In the present study, hybrid nanofiber scaffolds of poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA) and bioglass type 58S (58SiO2-33CaO-9P2O5, Bg) were fabricated, and their effect on the spontaneous activity of chick embryonic cardiomyocytes in vitro was determined. PVA/Bg nanofibers were produced by electrospinning and stabilized by chemical crosslinking with glutaraldehyde. The electrospun scaffolds were analyzed to determine their chemical structure, morphology, and thermal transitions. The crosslinked scaffolds were more stable to degradation in water. A Bg concentration of 25% in the hybrid scaffolds improved thermal stability and decreased degradation in water after PVA crosslinking. Cardiomyocytes showed increased adhesion and contractility in cells seeded on hybrid scaffolds with higher Bg concentrations. In addition, the effect of Ca2+ ions released from the bioglass on the contraction patterns of cultured cardiomyocytes was investigated. The results suggest that the scaffolds with 25% Bg led to a uniform beating frequency that resulted in synchronous contraction patterns.

The deficient management of plastic waste has caused a serious worldwide environmental problem. Thus, one of the main challenges for the industry in the plastics sector in contributing to sustainability and a circular economy consists of providing a subsequent service life to this waste. For that purpose, the appropriate incorporation of antioxidants will play a key role in preventing or postponing the degradation of plastic waste, where the formation of radicals is initiated during its previous lifetime by the action of degrading agents. Functionalized particles, based on mesoporous MCM-41 silica with Irganox 1076, were prepared with two different protocols and were further incorporated into a material containing virgin PP and 30 wt.% of recycled PP, with the purpose of guaranteeing thermal stability during its next service life. A very significant increase in the thermal stability of the resulting composites was found, attributable to the synergistic action between the Irganox 1076 antioxidant and the MCM-41 particles. In addition, the presence of hybrid particles leads to an important nucleating effect for the crystallization of PP. Moreover, a reinforcing role was also played by these modified mesoporous silicas in the resultant systems. The presented methodology constitutes, therefore, a promising strategy for contributing to the circular economy—since the synergy between the Irganox 1076 antioxidant and MCM-41 particles was found to play an important role in the ultimate performance of recycled polyolefins.

In this study, we examine Society 5.0, defined as a future framework where advanced technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and other digital innovations are integrated into society for sustainable resource management. Society 5.0 represents an evolution from the industrial focus of Industry 4.0, aiming for a harmonious balance between technological progress and human-centric values, consistent with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Our methodology involves a detailed literature review, focusing on identifying and evaluating the roles of AI, IoT, and other emerging technologies in enhancing resource efficiency, particularly in the water and energy sectors, to minimize environmental impact. This approach allows us to present a comprehensive overview of current technological advancements and their potential applications in Society 5.0. Our study’s added value lies in its synthesis of diverse technological strategies, emphasizing the synergy between circular economy practices and sustainable economic development. We highlight the necessity for resilience and adaptability to ecological challenges and advocate for a collaborative, data-informed decision-making framework. Our findings portray Society 5.0 as a holistic model for addressing contemporary global challenges in resource management and conservation, projecting a future where technology aligns with sustainable, equitable, and human-centered development.

Well-preserved mRNA in circulating tumor cells (CTCs) offers an ideal material for conducting molecular profiling of tumors, thereby providing a noninvasive diagnostic solution for guiding treatment intervention and monitoring disease progression. However, it is technically challenging to purify CTCs while retaining high-quality mRNA.Here, we demonstrate a covalent chemistry-based nanostructured silicon substrate ("Click Chip") for CTC purification that leverages bioorthogonal ligation-mediated CTC capture and disulfide cleavage-driven CTC release. This platform is ideal for CTC mRNA assays because of its efficient, specific, and rapid purification of pooled CTCs, enabling downstream molecular quantification using reverse transcription Droplet Digital polymerase chain reaction. Rearrangements of ALK/ROS1 were quantified using CTC mRNA and matched with those identified in biopsy specimens from 12 patients with late-stage non-small cell lung cancer. Moreover, CTC counts and copy numbers of ALK/ROS1 rearrangements could be used together for evaluating treatment responses and disease progression.

Tumor-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs) present in bodily fluids are emerging liquid biopsy markers for non-invasive cancer diagnosis and treatment monitoring. Because the majority of EVs in circulation are not of tumor origin, it is critical to develop new platforms capable of enriching tumor-derived EVs from the blood. Herein, we introduce a biostructure-inspired NanoVilli Chip, capable of highly efficient and reproducible immunoaffinity capture of tumor-derived EVs from blood plasma samples. Anti-EpCAM-grafted silicon nanowire arrays were engineered to mimic the distinctive structures of intestinal microvilli, dramatically increasing surface area and enhancing tumor-derived EV capture. RNA in the captured EVs can be recovered for downstream molecular analyses by reverse transcription Droplet Digital PCR. We demonstrate that this assay can be applied to monitor the dynamic changes of ROS1 rearrangements and epidermal growth factor receptor T790M mutations that predict treatment responses and disease progression in non-small cell lung cancer patients.

Rationale: Our objective was to develop a circulating tumor cell (CTC)-RNA assay for characterizing clinically relevant RNA signatures for the assessment of androgen receptor signaling inhibitor (ARSI) sensitivity in metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer (mCRPC) patients. Methods: We developed the NanoVelcro CTC-RNA assay by combining the Thermoresponsive (TR)-NanoVelcro CTC purification system with the NanoString nCounter platform for cellular purification and RNA analysis. Based on the well-validated, tissue-based Prostate Cancer Classification System (PCS), we focus on the most aggressive and ARSI-resistant PCS subtype, i.e., PCS1, for CTC analysis. We applied a rigorous bioinformatic process to develop the CTC-PCS1 panel that consists of prostate cancer (PCa) CTC-specific RNA signature with minimal expression in background white blood cells (WBCs). We validated the NanoVelcro CTC-RNA assay and the CTC-PCS1 panel with well-characterized PCa cell lines to demonstrate the sensitivity and dynamic range of the assay, as well as the specificity of the PCS1 Z score (the likelihood estimate of the PCS1 subtype) for identifying PCS1 subtype and ARSI resistance. We then selected 31 blood samples from 23 PCa patients receiving ARSIs to test in our assay. The PCS1 Z scores of each sample were computed and compared with ARSI treatment sensitivity. Results: The validation studies using PCa cell line samples showed that the NanoVelcro CTC-RNA assay can detect the RNA transcripts in the CTC-PCS1 panel with high sensitivity and linearity in the dynamic range of 5-100 cells. We also showed that the genes in CTC-PCS1 panel are highly expressed in PCa cell lines and lowly expressed in background WBCs. Using the artificial CTC samples simulating the blood sample conditions, we further demonstrated that the CTC-PCS1 panel is highly specific in identifying PCS1-like samples, and the high PCS1 Z score is associated with ARSI resistance samples. In patient bloods, ARSI-resistant samples (ARSI-R, n=14) had significantly higher PCS1 Z scores as compared with ARSI-sensitive samples (ARSI-S, n=17) (Rank-sum test, P=0.003). In the analysis of 8 patients who were initially sensitive to ARSI (ARSI-S) and later developed resistance (ARSI-R), we found that the PCS1 Z score increased from the time of ARSI-S to the time of ARSI-R (Pairwise T-test, P=0.016). Conclusions: Using our new methodology, we developed a first-in-class CTC-RNA assay and demonstrated the feasibility of transforming clinically-relevant tissue-based RNA profiling such as PCS into CTC tests. This approach allows for detecting RNA expression relevant to clinical drug resistance in a non-invasive fashion, which can facilitate patient-specific treatment selection and early detection of drug resistance, a goal in precision oncology.

Forest management planning requires a permanent collection of data on the distribution, composition, and structure of the stands that conform a woodland. These data serve as the basis for suggesting the most appropriate management scheme according to the natural resource conditions and management objectives. It is common for the collected databases’ structure and dimension to hinder their analysis using traditional descriptive techniques. Therefore, alternative methodologies are required to facilitate both the exploration of data properties and their collective behavior. We used complex networks analysis to identify distribution patterns of topographic, biological, and productive conditions of a managed forest, suggesting its functional zoning. The forest was considered a graph consisting of nodes and edges; the stands served as nodes and interactions between them as edges. Degree, clustering coefficient, triangles, and modularity were used as segregation and connectivity metrics to evaluate forest properties and allocate stands to five predefined potential forest uses (zones). The clustering coefficient metric provided the better graph partition, allowing to obtain the best alternatives for zoning the forest in conservation areas, areas with potential for timber production, and carbon storage. Proposing forest functional zoning through complex network theory is a powerful methodological option to represent the spatial and nonspatial interactions among the relevant attributes defining a forest ecosystem condition.

Abstract Background Emotional and stress-related disorders show high incidence, prevalence, morbidity, and comorbidity rates in Mexico. In recent decades, research findings indicate that cognitive behavioral interventions, from a disorder-specific perspective, are the effective front-line treatment for anxiety and depression care. However, these treatments are not often used. Reasons include limited access and low availability to effective interventions and comorbidity between mental disorders. Emotional deregulation of negative affectivity has been found to be a mediating factor in addressing emotional disorders from a transdiagnostic perspective, aimed at two or more specific disorders. In addition, technological advancement has created alternatives for psychological assistance, highlighting the possibilities offered by technologies since Internet-supported intervention programs have been empirically tested for effectiveness, efficiency and efficacy and can be key to ensuring access to those who are inaccessible. The aim of the study is to evaluate the efficacy, moderators of clinical change and acceptability of a transdiagnostic guided Internet-delivered intervention versus a transdiagnostic self-guided Internet-delivered intervention for emotional, trauma and stress-related disorders, and waiting list in community sample. Methods A three-armed, parallel group, superiority randomized controlled clinical trial with repeated measurements at four times: pretest, posttest, follow-up at 3, 6 and 12 months. Outcomes assessor, participant, care provider and investigator will be blinded. Participants aged 18 to 70 years will be randomly allocated 1:1:1 to one of three study arms: a) Transdiagnostic guided internet-delivered intervention with synchronous assistance, b) Transdiagnostic self-guided internet-delivered intervention, c) Waiting list group. Based on sample size estimation, a minimum of 207 participants (69 in each intervention group) will be included. Discussion The study could contribute to improving the efficacy of transdiagnostic internet-delivered interventions to promote the dissemination of evidence-based treatments and eventually, to decrease the high prevalence of emotional and trauma-related disorders in the Mexican population. El presente estudio persiguió tres objetivos, de los cuales el primero fue comparar entre estudiantes bajo modalidad a distancia, pertenecientes a dos comunidades rurales, la capacidad de memoria operativa en sus dominios verbal y viso-espacial. El segundo fue contrastar entre ambos grupos la fluidez de inteligencia, y el tercero comparar los puntajes de memoria operativa de ambas comunidades con los obtenidos por una comunidad urbana de características parecidas. Siguiendo un enfoque cuantitativo, se realizó un estudio descriptivo con 33 universitarios por cada grupo, de los cuales 45% eran mujeres con edad promedio de 20.9 años y 20.6 años en hombres. Para medir la memoria operativa, se aplicaron tareas de alcance complejo con estímulos de los dominios verbal y viso-espacial. Para medir la fluidez de inteligencia, se aplicó la prueba de matrices progresivas de Raven escala general. En ambas mediciones, los puntajes fueron similares entre ambas comunidades rurales y en cuanto a la comparación con la comunidad urbana, para esta última, se encontraron mayores puntajes en las tareas del dominio viso-espacial. Lo anterior sugiere que el contexto del estudiantado pudo desempeñar un papel importante en las mediciones obtenidas, de acuerdo con trabajos anteriores similares.

Se presenta una metodología basada en el procesamiento del modelo digital del terreno en SAGA-GIS para determinar los escenarios de inundaciones en caso de lluvias intensas o prolongadas en la subcuenca del río Cunas, Junín, Perú. Las variables calculadas a partir del DTM ALOS PALSAR fueron: Depresiones cerradas (CD), Distancia vertical a la red de drenaje (VD), Área de captación modificada (MCA), Escorrentía superficial - Escorrentía terrestre flujo D8, y el índice de humedad topográfico (TW1). La susceptibilidad a las inundaciones se obtiene como CD + MCA + D8 + TW1- VD. El mapa resultante validado en el campo, muestra diferentes grados de susceptibilidad a inundaciones, destacando tres sectores donde un grupo significativo de núcleos de población se encuentran expuestos a potenciales inundaciones de grado medio a alto.

There are several investigations on the use of food waste to remove contaminants by adsorption. However, a simple route, without chemical activation reagents, is needed for the development of adsorbents. The aim of this study was to develop an adsorbent from plantain peel, using a simple procedure, and to evaluate its capacity to remove phosphate from aqueous solutions at phosphate concentrations similar to those of water sources at risk of eutrophication (0.30 mg/L). The simple pyrolysis method was used in an electric muffle, without chemical activation, using plantain peel as precursor. The variables evaluated were pyrolysis temperature and solution pH. The specific surface area BET, zero loading point of the developed treatments, was determined. Phosphate adsorption was studied in a batch experiment in the presence of calcium ions in solution. Phosphate adsorption was favorable at all three pyrolysis temperature levels (500, 600 and 700 °C) and two solution pH levels (pH 7 and 10). the pseudo-second order kinetic model was the best fit for the experimental data to describe the adsorption mechanism. The best fit to the experimental equilibrium data was obtained with the Langmuir isotherm model. It was found that a 1 g/L dose of the adsorbent was able to reduce 92% of phosphate in water, with a removal capacity 0.14 mg/g at pH 10 and pyrolysis temperature of 700 °C. This study lays the groundwork for future research on the use of this type of adsorbent in water treatment to facilitate access to clean water for rural populations.
