In the context of water scarcity, soil erosion, and biodiversity decline, the Mediterranean basin urges to manage its nearly hundred coastal watersheds in a coordinated manner. To this end, we propose an integrated approach to model socio-ecologic scenarios with Sustainable Land Management (SLM) options at the watershed scale to strengthen the functioning of multiple Ecosystem Services (ES). This is tested in the Mijares watershed in eastern Spain. As a first step, we propose using integrated modeling technology to quickly assess areas of ecosystem goods and services supply and demand within the case study. To this end, we applied ARIES, an AI-driven online modeling platform widely used in the ES community. Then, we use this information to identify suitable SLM options documented in the WOCAT global database for providing the identified ES. Lastly, to adjust the results to the social-ecological context, we carry out consulting and participatory processes with key stakeholders to incorporate local knowledge of ES and capabilities to adopt SLM measures into the final proposal. As a result of this work, we can model various SLM scenarios, easing decision-making toward more integrated and sustainable land management in the watershed. • DIAPS, a tool designed for quantifying damage in APS, presents limitations that need attention. • Our survey included the opinion of a large number of APS ACTION members. • Efforts for updating DIAPS should consider the APS ACTION "Damage" Working Group recommendations. To gather the perspectives of APS ACTION members regarding the strengths and limitations of Damage Index for Antiphospholipid Syndrome (DIAPS); and establish recommendations for the improvement of DIAPS. APS ACTION members were invited to answer a survey regarding their satisfaction with DIAPS scoring system and individual items. The level of agreement (LoA) among members with the inclusion of individual items in DIAPS was calculated (LoA of <75% was considered disagreement). Respondents' open-ended comments about DIAPS limitations were also collected, which helped formulate our recommendations for DIAPS improvement. Forty-two APS ACTION members (58.3%) answered the survey. Of them, 26 (61.9%) were satisfied, 4 (9.5%) were neutral, and 12 (28.6%) were dissatisfied with the current DIAPS scoring system. Fifteen items (39.5%) presented a LoA <75% regarding the inclusion in DIAPS. Respondents provided comments that were grouped under six main categories related to concerns about: a) definitions and attribution of damage (including causality and temporal relationship); b) scoring system; c) overlapping items; d) specific items (exclusion of redundant items and inclusion of additional ones); e) the need to incorporate multiple events; and f) feasibility and practicality. Finally, the APS ACTION "Damage" Working Group developed 7 recommendations that should be considered for the next generation DIAPS. Approximately 60% of respondents were satisfied with DIAPS and its definitions; however, our survey demonstrated that there is substantial room to improve the current damage index for APS. To identify the associations between cardiorespiratory fitness and quadriceps muscle strength and the occurrence of minor adverse events in a cardiac rehabilitation (CR) program. Prospective cohort study. Output of a CR programme for primary or secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD). Seventy individuals who were diagnosed with CVD and/or risk factors and 7 who were excluded due to a low adherence rate in exercise sessions (<70%), 4 due to errors in oxygen consumption recorded during the cardiopulmonary exercise test (CPET) and 11 because they decided to withdraw from the study. The data of 38 participants were analyzed. Not applicable. Quadriceps muscle strength was assessed by an isokinetic dynamometer and by a manual dynamometer. Functional capacity was assessed by the CPET and by a six-minute walk test (6MWT). Participants were monitored by a physiotherapist during 24 exercise sessions to identify and register adverse events. Significant associations were detected between adverse events and quadriceps muscle strength assessed by an isokinetic dynamometer (peak torque, B=-2.0(-2.0;0.0), p=0.047), between functional capacity assessed by the CPET (peak torque, B=-0.3(-2.4;0.0), p=0.019), between fatigue and functional capacity assessed by the CPET (VO2max, B=-1.3(-2.9;0.0), p=0.005) and between quadriceps muscle strength assessed by an isokinetic dynamometer (peak torque, B=-10.0(-2.7;0.0); p=0.010). • Earth Observation (EO) provides accurate and timely spatial data to compile ecosystem accounts. • Spatial data is required to connect ecosystem extent, condition, and services • Harmonise input data with nomenclature is needed to facilitate better use of EO for accounting. • Open-access processing pipelines with EO data are missing. • Both technical and conceptual issues need to be resolved to operationalise EO in accounting. The European Space Agency (ESA) project "Pioneering Earth Observation Applications for the Environment – Ecosystem Accounting" (PEOPLE-EA) aimed to study and demonstrate the relevance of Earth Observation (EO) for ecosystem accounting in terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems. Ecosystem accounts are inherently spatial accounts, with the implication that they strongly depend on the availability of spatially explicit datasets. In the project's framework, an in-depth literature review of 113 scientific papers has shown EO data streams can be integrated to accelerate ecosystem account reporting. However, these workflows need to be further extended to support extent accounting that involves a more disaggregated ecosystem classification compared to land cover types. EO provides wall-to-wall monitoring and hence can contribute to provide reliable and consistent metrics on ecosystem condition, next to ecosystem extent. EO contribution is mainly to delineate and characterize ecosystem extent, structure, function and composition indices, and probably their distance from a reference condition, if not set too far back in time. The use of EO data for ecosystem services is more challenging, despite the well-established conceptual framework. EO data can support and accelerate ecosystem accounting under the standardised SEEA EA framework providing the most cost-effective way to collect large amounts of data in a standardised form with consistency in space and time.
