Motion Estimation (ME) is a critical part of video compression. This paper describes in-depth performance analysis of three most recent motion estimation algorithms based on motion activity in video sequences. Latest H.264/AVC video compression standard has been used for the performance analysis of three types of ME algorithms, which are: Enhances Predictive Zonal Search (EPZS), Unsymmetric-cross Multi Hexagon-grid search (UMHex) and Simplified Unsymmetric-cross Multi Hexagon-grid search (SUMHex). Performance of these algorithms is evaluated based on ME time and Mean Square Error (MSE). Results show that SUMHex has taken minimum ME time for low activity video sequences while EPZS took lowest time for the video sequences having high and moderate motion activities, whereas MSE is approximately same for all the algorithms. Cervical laminoplasty is a valuable procedure for myelopathy but it is associated with complications such as increased kyphosis. The effect of ligament damage during cervical laminoplasty on biomechanics is not well understood. We developed the C2–C7 cervical spine finite element model and simulated C3–C6 double-door laminoplasty. Three models were created (a) intact, (b) laminoplasty-pre (model assuming that the ligamentum flavum (LF) between C3–C6 was preserved during surgery), and (c) laminoplasty-res (model assuming that the LF between C3–C6 was resected during surgery). The models were subjected to physiological loading, and the range of motion (ROM), intervertebral nucleus stress, and facet contact forces were analyzed under flexion/extension, lateral bending, and axial rotation. The maximum change in ROM was observed under flexion motion. Under flexion, ROM in the laminoplasty-pre model increased by 100.2%, 111.8%, and 98.6% compared to the intact model at C3–C4, C4–C5, and C5–C6, respectively. The ROM in laminoplasty-res further increased by 105.2%, 116.8%, and 101.8% compared to the intact model at C3–C4, C4–C5, and C5–C6, respectively. The maximum stress in the annulus/nucleus was observed under left bending at the C4–C5 segment where an increase of 139.5% and 229.6% compared to the intact model was observed for laminoplasty-pre and laminoplasty-res model, respectively. The highest facet contact forces were observed at C4–C5 under axial rotation, where an increase of 500.7% and 500.7% was observed compared to the intact model for laminoplasty-pre and laminoplasty-res, respectively. The posterior ligaments of the cervical spine play a vital role in restoring/stabilizing the cervical spine. When laminoplasty is performed, the surgeon needs to be careful not to injure the posterior soft tissue, including ligaments such as LF.

The present study was designed to investigate the effect of noise and heat stress on operators of various age groups performing die casting operation at varying exposure durations. The independent variables selected were age of operator (20-25, 25-30 and 30-35 years), equivalent levels of noise (90, 95 and 100 dB(A)), heat stress (35, 40 and 45°C wet bulb globe temperature) and exposure duration (5, 10 and 15 minutes) while the dependent variable was heart rate measured with the help of pulse-oximeter. The results of the study showed that the main effects of heat stress, equivalent noise level, age group and the interaction between levels of equivalent noise and exposure duration were all had a statistically significant effect on operators performing the task. Abstract Background The purpose of this study was to evaluate the frequency with which free papers presented at the 2008 and 2010 European Society of Sports Traumatology Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) congress were ultimately published in peer-reviewed journals. Moreover, this study evaluated whether any correlations exist between the level of evidence of the free papers and their frequency of publication or the impact factor of the journals in which they are published. Methods Free papers presented at the 2008 and 2010 ESSKA congresses were included for assessment. Clinical papers (observational studies and trials involving direct interaction between an investigator and human subjects) were graded for level of evidence by two independent reviewers. A comprehensive strategy was used to search the databases PubMed, Ovid (MEDLINE), and EMBASE for all publications corresponding to the included free papers. Results Three hundred-ninety presentations were evaluated, of which 215 (55%) were ultimately published in a peer-reviewed journal within five years of the presentation date. The mean time from presentation to publication was 16 months (SD 25 months). There was no significant difference in the distribution of the level of evidence between studies that were ultimately published, versus those that were not published (n.s.). The level of evidence of the published study was not a significant predictor of the impact factor of the journal in which it was published (n.s.). Presentations were most commonly published in Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy (24%) and The American Journal of Sports Medicine (22%). Conclusion Free papers at the 2008 and 2010 ESSKA congress were published at a frequency that is comparable to that at other orthopaedic meetings. The publication rate was similar across all levels of evidence. Further encouragement of manuscript preparation and submission following these meetings could help to ensure important research findings are disseminated to large audiences.

This is a technique guide for open anterior capsule reconstruction in unstable native hips due to Ehlers–Danlos syndrome. Ehlers–Danlos syndrome is a connective tissue disease that predisposes an individual to hypermobility of their soft tissues and recurrent subluxations and dislocations of their joints. This may lead to constant instability, guarding of the hip, and subsequent arthritic changes and poor quality of life. We demonstrate anterior capsule reconstruction of the hip using an Achilles tendon allograft performed through a direct anterior approach to the hip (Heuter's approach). This technique guide outlines in detail the surgical steps required to accomplish this reconstructive procedure. Furthermore, a narrated surgical video is provided that clearly depicts the anticipated result of the increased constrained provided to the hip from the anterior capsule reconstruction using an Achilles tendon allograft.

This study reveals the detailed conceptualization of integrity, ethics, freelancing, entrepreneurship, and role of integrity in the success of freelance and entrepreneurship. The paper is supported through conceptual review of an existing literature. It is found that integrity and ethics are well thought of similar but theoretically they are different; integrity is wholeness, pure, moral, and consistent characteristics; whilst the principles or set of rules within which one works are called ethics; a freelancer works on contract basis, is responsible for own-skill development, risks, commitments, business development, and maintenance of integrity in self, profession, and business; however, an entrepreneur is person who establishes a business with innovation, risk-taking and proactiveness. Current study found that the integrity is a core element for the success of any business whether it is freelancing or entrepreneurship; to main the integrity in business is an equal responsibility of both the employees and management. Furthermore, as the global culture is diverse in nature, some countries are liberal, some are under religious influence, and others are mixed cultured. Thus, the parameters for ethics and integrity may be different contextually, geographically, sociologically, and temporally. In order to further understand and determine such parameters an empirical research may be performed in future.

Background: The lifetime prevalence of intimate partner violence (IPV) for women presenting to health care settings is estimated to be 38–59%. With the goal of providing help to victims of abuse, numerous IPV assistance programmes have been developed and evaluated across multiple health care settings. Objective: Our scoping review provides an overview of this literature to identify key areas for potential evidence-based recommendations and to focus research priorities. Methods: We conducted a search of MEDLINE, Embase, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and psycINFO. We used broad eligibility criteria to identify studies that evaluated the effectiveness of IPV assistance programmes delivered within health care settings. We completed all screening and data extraction independently and in duplicate. We used descriptive statistics to summarize all data. Results: Forty-three studies met all eligibility criteria and were included in our scoping review. Nine categories of assistance programmes were identified: counselling/advocacy, safety assessment/planning, referral, providing IPV resources, home visitation, case management, videos, provider cueing, and system changes. Characteristics of programmes amongst studies frequently reporting positive results included those in which one type of active assistance was used (77.8% of studies reported positive results), a counsellor, community worker, or case manager provided the intervention (83.3% of studies reported positive results), and programmes that were delivered over more than five sessions (100.0% of studies reported positive results). Conclusions: IPV assistance programmes are heterogeneous with regards to the types of assistance they include and how they are delivered and evaluated. This heterogeneity creates challenges in identifying which IPV assistance programmes, and which aspects of these programmes, are effective. However, it appears that many different types of IPV assistance programmes can have positive impacts on women.

Between 38 and 59 percent of women presenting to health care professionals have experienced intimate partner violence. Consequently, multiple intimate partner violence identification or screening programs within health care settings have been developed; however, substantial variations in program content and interpretation of program effectiveness has resulted in conflicting practice guidelines. The purpose of our scoping review is to broadly identify and synthesize the available literature evaluating intimate partner violence identification programs within health care settings to identify key areas for potential evidence-based recommendations and to focus research priorities in the field.We conducted a search of MEDLINE, Embase, Cumulative Index of Nursing and Allied Health Literature, Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and psycINFO. We used descriptive statistics to summarize all data.We identified 59 eligible studies evaluating intimate partner violence identification programs within health care settings. The most commonly reported outcome themes were IPV disclosure (69%, n = 35), number of patients screened (39%, n = 20), HCP opinions towards screening (37%, n = 19), and patient opinions towards screening (29%, n = 15). The majority of studies (36 studies (70.6%)) reported positive program evaluation results.The majority of studies reported positive program evaluation results. This may suggest that many different intimate partner violence identification programs are beneficial for identifying victims of abuse, however, it remains unknown as to whether identification programs prevent future episodes of abuse. Additionally, the substantial heterogeneity of the intervention characteristics, study methodology, and outcome measures assessed limits the ability to make clear recommendations as to the optimal method(s) of screening.

The structural parameters, elastic constants, electronic and optical properties of the bi-alkali antimonides (NaKSb, NaRbSb, NaCsSb, KRbSb, KCsSb and RbCsSb) were calculated using state-of-the-art density functional theory. Different exchange-correlation potentials were adopted to predict the physical properties of these compounds. The calculated structural parameters are found in good agreement with the available experimental and theoretical results. All the compounds are mechanically stable. The compounds NaKSb, KRbSb, KCsSb and RbCsSb have direct bandgaps, in which chemical bonding among the cations and anions is mainly ionic. Furthermore, the optical properties of these compounds are described in detail in terms of the dielectric function, refractive index, reflectivity, optical conductivity and absorption coefficient. Glanzmann thrombasthenia and clotting factor VII deficiency are rare autosomal recessive bleeding disorders. But the occurrence of both in the same person is an extremely rare phenomenon. Here, we present the case of a young female from Sindh, Pakistan that got diagnosed with Glanzmann thrombasthenia and concomitant moderate factor VII deficiency, a combination not previously reported in the country. The patient exhibited typical clinical manifestations including menorrhagia, nasal bleeds, and prolonged bleeding after minor injuries, compounded by a positive family history and consanguinity. Laboratory investigations revealed marked anemia, prolonged bleeding time, and abnormal platelet aggregation studies consistent with Glanzmann thrombasthenia. The identification of this rare combination relied on comprehensive clinical evaluation, emphasizing the importance of family history in suspected cases. Management involved platelet transfusions, tranexamic acid, and Factor VII replacement, resulting in clinical improvement., (© 2024. Purpose: To assess the effect of various pelvic fixation techniques and number of rods on biomechanics of the proximal junction of long thoracolumbar posterior instrumented fusions., Methods: A validated spinopelvic finite-element (FE) model was instrumented with L5-S1 ALIF and one of the following 9 posterior instrumentation configurations: (A) one traditional iliac screw bilaterally ("2 Iliac/2 Rods"); (B) T10 to S1 ("Sacral Only"); (C) unilateral traditional iliac screw ("1 Iliac/2 Rods"); (D) one traditional iliac screw bilaterally with one midline accessory rod ("2 Iliac/3 rods"); (E) S2AI screws connected directly to the midline rods ("2 S2AI/2 Rods"); and two traditional iliac screws bilaterally with two lateral accessory rods connected to the main rods at varying locations (F1: T10-11, F2: T11-12, F3: T12-L1, F4: L1-2) ("4 Iliac/4 Rods"). Range of motions (ROM) at T10-S1 and T9-T10 were recorded and compared between models. The T9-T10 intradiscal pressures and stresses of the T9-10 disc's annulus in addition to the von Mises stresses of the T9 and T10 vertebral bodies were recorded and compared., Results: For T10-S1 ROM, 4 iliac/4 rods had lowest ROM in flexion and extension, while 2 S2AI/2 rods showed lowest ROM in rotation. Constructs with 3 or 4 rods had lower stresses on the primary rods compared to 2-rod constructs. At the proximal adjacent disc (T9-10), 4 iliac/4 rods showed lowest ROM, lowest intradiscal pressures, and lowest annular stress in all directions (most pronounced in flexion-extension). Under flexion and extension, 4 iliac/4 rods also showed the lowest von Mises stresses on the T10 vertebral body but the highest stresses on the T9 vertebral body., Conclusions: Dual iliac screws with 4 rods across the lumbosacral junction and extending to the thoracolumbar junction demonstrated the lowest T10-S1 ROM, the lowest adjacent segment disc (T9-T10) ROM, intradiscal pressures, and annular stresses, and the lowest UIV stresses, albeit with the highest UIV + 1 stresses. Purpose: To systematically review studies comparing outcomes of allograft versus autograft for hip labral reconstruction., Methods: A systematic review following guidelines established by PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses) was performed in 3 databases using the terms "labrum," "hip," "acetabulum," "reconstruction," "augmentation," "allograft," and "autograft." Data on study characteristics, patient demographic characteristics, follow-up time, patient-reported outcomes (PROs), rates of revision surgery, and rates of conversion to total hip arthroplasty (THA) were collected., Results: Three studies were included, with Methodological Index for Non-randomized Studies (MINORS) scores ranging from 17 to 23. Among 92 patients receiving allografts, the mean ages ranged from 30.6 to 34.8 years; mean follow-up times, from 34.6 to 66.1 months; revision rates, from 0% to 23.6%; and conversion-to-THA rates, from 0% to 20%. Among 185 patients receiving autografts, the mean ages ranged from 34.6 to 35.9 years; mean follow-up times, from 32.7 to 80.8 months; revision rates, from 0% to 7.3%; and conversion-to-THA rates, from 0% to 6.7%. One study reported significantly higher revision rates in the allograft group. All studies reported no statistically significant differences in postoperative PROs, and all postoperative PROs significantly improved compared with preoperative PROs. Rates of achievement of the minimal clinically important difference and patient acceptable symptomatic state, reported by 1 study, were statistically similar between the 2 groups and ranged from 55.6% to 100% for the allograft group and from 53.8% to 84.6% for the autograft group., Conclusions: There were no significant differences between allograft and autograft patients in terms of postoperative PROs; however, all PRO measures were slightly higher in allograft patients. Both revision and conversion-to-THA rates were higher in allograft patients in 2 studies, with the level of significance being reached in terms of revision in 1 study. Background: Stiffness following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) is often treated with manipulation under anesthesia (MUA). However, there is debate regarding the timing of MUA, with many recommending against MUA beyond 3 months after TKA. Therefore, the purpose of this systematic review was to evaluate the functional and clinical outcomes of early versus delayed MUA for stiffness following TKA., Methods: A search following Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-analyses guidelines was performed in the PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Cochrane databases in November 2023. Data regarding study characteristics, demographics, knee flexion and extension, patient-reported outcomes, complications, and revisions were collected. A quality assessment was performed using the Methodological Index for Non-randomized Studies. Included were 14 studies analyzing 13,445 knees, 72.1% of which underwent early MUA and 27.8% of which underwent delayed MUA. Of the 14 studies, 10 defined early MUA as being performed within 3 months of the index TKA., Results: Pre-MUA and post-MUA knee flexion for the early/delayed groups was 71.3°/77.9° and 103.0°/96.1°, respectively. Upon meta-analysis, pre-MUA knee flexion was significantly higher in the delayed group (P = .003), whereas post-MUA flexion was similar in both groups (P = .36). The mean gain in knee flexion for the early and delayed groups was 32.0°/19.2°. The surgical complication and revision TKA rates for the early and delayed groups were 4.9%/10.3% and 5%/9%, respectively. A meta-analysis found the risk of surgical or medical complications and revision TKA to be significantly higher in the delayed MUA group (P < .00001 and = .002, respectively)., Conclusions: Although post-MUA knee flexion was similar in patients undergoing early and delayed MUA following TKA, the mean gain in flexion for early patients was nearly double that of delayed patients. Background: Pedicle subtraction osteotomy (PSO) is effective for correcting spinal malalignment but is associated with high complication rates. The biomechanical effect of different PSO levels remains unclear, and no finite element (FE) analysis has compared L2-, L3-, L4-, and L5-PSOs., Purpose: To assess the effects of PSO level on the spine's global range of motion, stresses on posterior instrumentation, load sharing with the anterior column, and proximal junctional stresses., Study Design: A computational biomechanical analysis., Methods: A validated 3D spinopelvic FE model (T10-Pelvis) was used to perform PSOs at L2, L3, L4 and L5. Each model was instrumented with a 4-rod configuration (primary rods + in-line satellite rods) from T11-Pelvis. Simulation included a 2-step analysis; (1) applying 300 N to thoracic, 400 N to lumbar, and 400 N to sacrum, and (2) applying a 7.5 Nm moment to the top endplate of the T10 vertebral body. Acetabulum surfaces were fixed in all degrees of freedom. The range of motion, spinopelvic parameters (lumbar lordosis [LL], sacral slope [SS], pelvic incidence [PI], and pelvic tilt [PT]), PSO force, and von Mises stresses were measured. All models were compared with the L3-PSO model and percentage differences were captured., Results: Compared to the intact alignment: LL increased by 48%, 45%, 59%, and 56% in the L2-, L3-, L4-, and L5-PSO models; SS increased by 25%, 15%, and 11% while PT decreased by 76%, 53%, and 45% in L2-, L3-, and L4-PSOs (SS and PT approximated intact model in L5-PSO); Lumbar osteotomy did not affect the PI. Compared to L3-PSO: L2-, L4-, and L5-PSOs showed up to 32%, 34%, and 34% lower global ROM. The least T10-T11 ROM was observed in L5-PSO. The left and right SIJ ROM were approximately similar in each model. Amongst all, the L5-PSO model showed the least ROM at the SIJ. Compared to L3-PSO, the L2-, L4-, and L5-PSO models showed up to 67%, 61%, and 78% reduced stresses at the UIV, respectively. Minimum stress at UIV+ was observed in the L3-PSO model. The L2-and L3-PSOs showed the maximum PSO force. The L5-PSO model showed the lowest stresses on the primary rods in all motions., Conclusion: Our FE investigation indicates that L5-PSO results in the greatest lumbar lordosis and lowest global, SIJ, and T10-T11 ROMs and stresses on the primary rods, suggesting potential mechanical benefits in reducing the risk of rod breakage. However, L4- and L5-PSOs led to the least force across the osteotomy site, which may increase the risk of pseudarthrosis. Purpose: To survey the ACL study group (ACLSG) members to determine the current practice patterns surrounding the use and methodology of lateral extra-articular procedures (LEAPs), including anterolateral ligament reconstruction (ALLR) or lateral extra-articular tenodesis (LET) during ACL reconstruction (ACLR)., Methods: A web-based questionnaire was distributed to members of the ACLSG during the 2016, 2018, 2020, and 2023 biennial meetings. Questions explored the indications and techniques when incorporating LEAPs in ACLR., Results: Analysis of survey responses found that the reported use of LEAPs in both primary and revision ACLR significantly increased between 2016 and 2023 and that surgeons were using lateral augmentation more frequently over time. Surgical techniques were stable across survey years, with most surgeons using iliotibial band (ITB) autograft attached at Gerdy's tubercle, passed under the lateral collateral ligament (LCL), and anchored proximal/posterior to the lateral femoral epicondyle., Conclusion: Survey responses demonstrate that LEAPs are becoming more common among ACL surgeons in the ACL SG, with the modified Lemaire LET being the predominant technique. This study aims to investigate the impact of interactivity and perceived humanness on trust toward AI chatbots in the e-commerce setting. Moreover, this study also aims to examine the mediation effect of trust toward AI chatbots in the relationship between interactivity and intention to adopt AI chatbots for e-commerce as well as in the relationship between perceived humanness and intention to adopt chatbots for e-commerce. This study used a time lag approach to collect the data from 343 customers from the southern region of China. The data were collected online through a questionnaire designed in Chinese language using a survey firm. The findings of this study indicated that there is a significant impact of interactivity and humanness on the trust toward chatbots. Moreover, the findings of this study indicated that there is a significant mediating effect of trust toward chatbots in the relationships of interactivity and perceived humanness to adopt chatbots for e-commerce. In addition, this study found a significant moderating influence on the perceived enjoyment of using chatbots in e-commerce settings. This study provides a unique perspective of expectation-confirmation theory for adopting emerging technologies for online shopping and also provides insights for designers and business firms to develop businesses to facilitate the AI chatbot feature for e-commerce., (© 2024.
