274. The GaPS2Se2 monolayer: a novel stable 2D Janus semiconductor with anisotropic properties for spontaneous water splitting under the irradiation of solar light.

Abstract

Considering the issues of energy shortage and global warming in the near future, developing sustainable and CO2 emission-free energy sources is necessary for industrialization and civilization. Pure hydrogen is a promising source of clean energy due to its high energy density and sustainable production. In this regard, using density functional theory calculations, a novel two-dimensional (2D) Janus material GaPS2Se2 is predicted to be a promising candidate for the photocatalytic water-splitting application to produce hydrogen. After ascertaining its stability, it was found that the new material shows an anisotropic Young's modulus (Poisson's ratio) of 9.04–29.09 N m−1 (0.05–0.34). Notably, the GaPS2Se2 Janus material shows a moderate direct bandgap of 2.64 eV and anisotropic carrier mobilities for electrons (284.61/37.60 cm2 V−1 S−1) and holes (528.83/550.63 cm2 V−1 S−1), making it suitable for the photocatalytic water splitting catalyst. Interestingly, when applying strain-engineering modulation, the electronic properties, effect mass, and optical properties can be well-tuned. Importantly, both oxygen evolution and hydrogen evolution can spontaneously occur at pH = 3 and 2% tensile strain by calculating the Gibbs free energy of each intermediate. Through systematic investigations, the GaPS2Se2 monolayer is a promising candidate for electronics, photoelectronics, and photocatalytic water splitting applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The coordination environment of photocatalytic active sites is determined by the type of surface termination on an α-SnWO4 semiconductor. However, the stability of these surface terminations has not been thoroughly explored. In this work, the stability of the α-SnWO4(010) surface termination was studied using a thermodynamic analysis based on density functional theory (DFT). Under appropriate thermodynamic equilibrium conditions, it is possible to stabilize the O–W, O–Sn, R–OOSn and ST3 terminations of the α-SnWO4(010) surface. The electronic structures of these three potential stable surface terminations are also calculated using a Heyd–Scuseria–Ernzerhof (HSE06) hybrid functional to determine the conceivable bandgap values. It is found that there are numerous surface states in the bandgap of these terminations. This is due to the evident reconstruction of these terminations after geometry optimization. In addition, work functions are substantially different for possible surface terminations. The results suggest that Z-scheme heterostructures based on SnWO4 can be regulated by securing the thermodynamically favorable surface terminations under suitable physical/chemical conditions. At last, O–Sn termination exhibits a low overpotential value of 0.51 V, showing remarkable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) performance among all stable surface terminations considered in this work. 299. Mesozoic hydrothermal overprint on carboniferous bauxite in China.

Abstract

Bauxite is the world’s main source of aluminium and typically consists of gibbsite, boehmite, and minor amounts of diaspore. However, bauxite deposits from the North and South China blocks consist mostly of diaspore and associated minerals, including anatase and illite. Much of this illite is authigenic and occurs as three polytypes (1M, 1Md, and 2M1), with Kübler indices ranging from 0.23 to 0.47 indicating precipitation temperatures of 175 to 300 degrees C. The Raman spectra of anatase show an intensity ratio less than 1.5 for G (ca. 1 600 cm–1) and D bands (ca. 1 350 cm–1) diagnostic of organic matter, suggesting its presence during bauxite sedimentation followed by heating (165 to 270 degrees C). The K-Ar ages of authigenic illite from the South China block (178–137 Ma) and the North China block (214–203 Ma) are synchronous with known regional Mesozoic tectono-thermal events generating hydrothermal overprints resulting in the formation of illite, the conversion of some diaspores from thermal of gibbsite and boehmite, and the heating of anatase postsedimentation of the Carboniferous bauxites. 300. TSNAT: Two-Step Non-Autoregressvie Transformer Models for Speech Recognition

Abstract

The autoregressive (AR) models, such as attention-based encoder-decoder models and RNN-Transducer, have achieved great success in speech recognition. They predict the output sequence conditioned on the previous tokens and acoustic encoded states, which is inefficient on GPUs. The non-autoregressive (NAR) models can get rid of the temporal dependency between the output tokens and predict the entire output tokens in at least one step. However, the NAR model still faces two major problems. On the one hand, there is still a great gap in performance between the NAR models and the advanced AR models. On the other hand, it's difficult for most of the NAR models to train and converge. To address these two problems, we propose a new model named the two-step non-autoregressive transformer(TSNAT), which improves the performance and accelerating the convergence of the NAR model by learning prior knowledge from a parameters-sharing AR model. Furthermore, we introduce the two-stage method into the inference process, which improves the model performance greatly. All the experiments are conducted on a public Chinese mandarin dataset ASIEHLL-1. The results show that the TSNAT can achieve a competitive performance with the AR model and outperform many complicated NAR models., Comment: Submitted to Interspeech2021
