Investigating the composition and distribution of pelagic marine sediments is fundamental in the field of marine sedimentology. The spatial distributions of surface sediment are unclear due to limited investigation along the Emperor Seamount Chain of the North Pacific. In this study, a suite of sedimentological and geochemical proxies were analyzed, including the sediment grain size, organic carbon, CaCO3, major and rare earth elements of 50 surface sediment samples from the Emperor Seamount Chain, spanning from ∼33°N to ∼52°N. On the basis of sedimentary components, we divide them into three Zones (I, II, and III) spatially with distinct features. Sediments in Zone I (∼33°N–44°N) and Zone III (49.8°N–53°N) are dominated by clayey silt, and mainly consist of sand and silty sand in Zone II. The mean grain size of the sortable silt shows that the hydrodynamic condition in the study area is significantly stronger than that of the abyssal plain, especially at the water depth of 1,000–2,500 m. The CaCO3 contents in sediments above 4,000 m range from 20 to 84% but decrease sharply to less than 1.5% below 4,000 m, confirming that the water depth of 4,000 m is the carbonate compensation depth of the study area. Strong positive correlations between Al2O3 and Fe2O3, TiO2, MgO, and K2O (R > 0.9) in the bulk sediments indicate pronounced contributions of terrigenous materials from surrounding continent mass to the study area. Furthermore, the eolian dust makes contributions to the composition of bulk sediments as confirmed by rare earth elements. There is no significant correlation between grain size and major and minor elements, which indicates that the sedimentary grain size does not exert important effects on terrigenous components. The exploitation and utilization of renewable energy have become the important measures taken by countries all over the world to solve the contradiction among energy shortage, economic development and ecological environment. As an important bridge and energy conversion channel between renewable energy and electric energy, power converter is a basic form of transformation and control of electric energy, which plays a vital role in the exploitation and utilization of renewable energy. In the past few decades, due to the significance of both theory and practical applications, the study of power converter has become one of the hotspots of research in the field of power electronics and automation. The study of power converter control strategies is an important study research of power converter. The control strategy as the core of the control system directly determines the dynamic and static performance of the power converter. The power converter system is a typical nonlinear system. However, most of power converter control strategies are designed based on linearization control methods, which makes the control system sensitive to system parameter variations, slow dynamic response speed and poor steady-state performance, etc. Thus, in order to further improve the dynamic and static performances of power converters, the investigation of using nonlinear control methods for power converters is a challenging and meaningful work. Based on modern control theory utilizing nonlinear control approaches, this dissertation investigates the nonlinear control strategies design for several typical power converters, and the main contributions are as follows: (1) The important role of power converters in renewable energy power generation systems is introduced. This paper investigates the problem of optimal tracking control for cyber-physical systems (CPS) when the cyber realm is attacked by denial-of-service (DoS) attacks which can prevent the control signal transmitting to the actuator. Attention is focused on how to design the optimal tracking control scheme without using the system dynamics and analyze the impact of DoS attacks on tracking performance. First, a Riccati equation for the augmented system including the system model and the reference model is derived under the framework of dynamic programming. The existence and uniqueness of its solution are proved. Second, the impact of the successful DoS attack probability on tracking performance is analyzed. A critical value of the probability is given, beyond which the solution to the Riccati equation cannot converge. The tracking controller cannot be designed. Third, reinforcement learning is introduced to design the optimal tracking control schemes, in which the system dynamics are not necessary to be known. This article investigates the secure control problem for cyber-physical systems when the malicious data are injected into the cyber realm, which directly connects to the actuators. Based on moving target defense (MTD) and reinforcement learning, we propose a novel proactive and reactive defense control scheme. First, the system (A,B) is modeled as a switching system consisting of several controllable pairs (A,Bl) to facilitate the construction of the MTD control scheme. The controllable pairs (A,Bl) can be altered to update system dynamics under certain unpredictable switching probabilities for each subsystem, which can prevent the adversaries from effective attacks. Second, both attack detection and isolation schemes are designed to accurately locate and exclude the compromised actuators from a switching sequence. Third, a reinforcement learning algorithm based on the zero-sum game theory is proposed to design the defense control scheme when there exist no controllable subsystems to switch. Three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) converter is widely used in energy conversion systems due to its good properties for high-power systems presenting output waveforms with reduced harmonic distortion. To obtain better system performance, an integral sliding-mode control (ISMC)-based direct power control (DPC) strategy is proposed for NPC converters. The controller achieves three objectives. First, an extended state observer (ESO)-based ISMC strategy, to enforce the active and reactive power to their reference values, is applied in the power tracking loop. ESO is used to reduce the influence of parameter uncertainties. Next, in the voltage regulation loop, a radial basis function neural network (RBFNN)-based adaptive ISMC strategy is applied to regulate the DC-link voltage. RBFNN is used to estimate the load variation, which is considered as a disturbance, to improve the system disturbance rejection ability. An adaptive law is used in the controller to reduce the chattering of reference active power which can reduce the current harmonic distortion. Finally, a proportional-integral (PI) control strategy is applied in the voltage balancing loop to achieve voltage balance between two DC-link capacitors. Experimental results show the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed control strategy for the NPC power converter compared with PI-based DPC strategy.

Acting as an interface between the grid and many energy systems, the active front-end (AFE) has been widely used in a large variety of industrial applications. In this paper, in order to ensure the fast dynamic performance and good disturbance rejection ability of the AFE, a high-gain observer (HGO) plus adaptive super-twisting algorithm (STA) for the three-level neutral-point-clamped (NPC) converter is proposed. Comparing with the conventional PI control strategy, the proposed controller implements the adaptive STA in the voltage regulator to provide a faster transient response. The gains of the adaptive STA keep varying according to the rules being reduced in steady state but increasing in transient conditions. Therefore, the chattering phenomenon is mitigated and the dynamic response is guaranteed. Additionally, to undermine the impact of external disturbances on the dc-link voltage, a high-efficiency HGO is designed in the voltage regulation loop to reject it. Experimental results based on a three-level NPC prototype are given and compared with the conventional PI method to validate the fast dynamic performance and high disturbance rejection ability of the proposed approach.
