251. Effect of synchronization system errors on the reception noise immunity of amplitude-phase shift keyed signals

Abstract

Objectives. An urgent task in the context of modern radio and television systems is to improve the quality and quantity of transmitted information. For example, the use of multiple amplitude-phase shift keyed (APSK) signals—16-APSK and 32-APSK—in digital satellite television systems of the Digital Video Broadcasting-Satellite2 (DVB-S2) standard made it possible to transmit 30% more data in the same frequency bands in comparison with the previous DVB-S standard. Such increases in information transmission rates impose more stringent requirements on hardware. An important role in the reception of APSK signals, as well as the signals of other coherent signal processing systems, is played by the stability of synchronization systems. The presence of operational errors can significantly reduce the quality of information reception. The aim of the present work was to analyze the effect of phase and clock synchronization errors on the reception noise immunity of APSK signals with a ring signal constellation structure.Methods. The study used statistical radio engineering methods informed by optimal signal reception theory.Results. The effect of phase and clock synchronization errors on the reception noise immunity of APSK signals having a signal constellation ring structure is analyzed. The dependencies of the bit error probability on the magnitude of the phase shift and the clock offset were characterized. The effect of synchronization errors on reception quality were compared with the known results for quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) signals.Conclusions. At an acceptable energy loss of no more than 1 dB, the critical phase error can be considered as 2°-3°, while the critical clock error is 3-4%. A coherent receiver of APSK signals is more sensitive to the phase error of reference oscillations than a similar receiver of QAM signals, whereas clock errors have the same effect on the reception quality of these signals.

Abstract

We study the frame properties of the Gabor systems $$\mathfrak{G}(g;\alpha,\beta):=\{e^{2\pi i \beta m x}g(x-\alpha n)\}_{m,n\in\mathbb{Z}}.$$ In particular, we prove that for Herglotz windows $g$ such systems always form a frame for $L^2(\mathbb{R})$ if $\alpha,\beta>0$, $\alpha\beta\leq1$. For general rational windows $g\in L^2(\mathbb{R})$ we prove that $\mathfrak{G}(g;\alpha,\beta)$ is a frame for $L^2(\mathbb{R})$ if $0<\alpha,\beta$, $\alpha\beta<1$, $\alpha\beta\not\in\mathbb{Q}$ and $\hat{g}(\xi)\neq0$, $\xi>0$, thus confirming Daubechies conjecture for this class of functions. Abstract

The quasifree $\overrightarrow{\gamma} d\to\pi^0n(p)$ photon beam asymmetry, $\Sigma$, has been measured at photon energies, $E_\gamma$, from 390 to 610 MeV, corresponding to center of mass energy from 1.271 to 1.424 GeV, for the first time. The data were collected in the A2 hall of the MAMI electron beam facility with the Crystal Ball and TAPS calorimeters covering pion center-of-mass angles from 49 to 148$^\circ$. In this kinematic region, polarization observables are sensitive to contributions from the $\Delta (1232)$ and $N(1440)$ resonances. The extracted values of $\Sigma$ have been compared to predictions based on partial-wave analyses (PWAs) of the existing pion photoproduction database. Our comparison includes the SAID, MAID, and Bonn-Gatchina analyses; while a revised SAID fit, including the new $\Sigma$ measurements, has also been performed. In addition, isospin symmetry is examined as a way to predict $\pi^0n$ photoproduction observables, based on fits to published data in the channels $\pi^0p$, $\pi^+n$, and $\pi^-p$., Comment: 11 pages, 9 figures, 5 tables; fixed 2 glitches

Abstract

Finding exact circuit size is a notorious optimization problem in practice. Whereas modern computers and algorithmic techniques allow to find a circuit of size seven in blink of an eye, it may take more than a week to search for a circuit of size thirteen. One of the reasons of this behavior is that the search space is enormous: the number of circuits of size $s$ is $s^{\Theta(s)}$, the number of Boolean functions on $n$ variables is $2^{2^n}$. In this paper, we explore the following natural heuristic idea for decreasing the size of a given circuit: go through all its subcircuits of moderate size and check whether any of them can be improved by reducing to SAT. This may be viewed as a local search approach: we search for a smaller circuit in a ball around a given circuit. Through this approach, we prove new upper bounds on the circuit size of various symmetric functions. We also demonstrate that some upper bounds that were proved by hand decades ago, nowadays can be found automatically in a few seconds.

Abstract

The Spin Physics Detector, a universal facility for studying the nucleon spin structure and other spin-related phenomena with polarized proton and deuteron beams, is proposed to be placed in one of the two interaction points of the NICA collider that is under construction at the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (Dubna, Russia). At the heart of the project there is huge experience with polarized beams at JINR. The main objective of the proposed experiment is the comprehensive study of the unpolarized and polarized gluon content of the nucleon. Spin measurements at the Spin Physics Detector at the NICA collider have bright perspectives to make a unique contribution and challenge our understanding of the spin structure of the nucleon. In this document the Conceptual Design of the Spin Physics Detector is presented.

258. Numerical Modeling of Extreme Sea Levels on the Laptev Sea Coast

Abstract

The present study is devoted to the analysis of extreme sea level oscillations of the Laptev Sea using the ADCIRC model. The numerical modeling is performed on a high-resolution grid and verified for sea level observations from three tide gauges. We have revealed regional characteristics of extreme sea level oscillations for different parts of the Laptev Sea coast. The maximum total sea level range was 544 cm in Ebelyakh Bay, while the minimum was 267 cm in Khatanga Bay, where maximum tidal ranges were obtained. Some areas in Khatanga Bay and Anabar Bay had maximum tidal ranges exceeding 200 cm. The study provided an estimation of the possible magnitude of coastal flooding by calculating the extreme total and residual sea levels for different return periods: 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, and 100 years. The amplitude of extreme surges calculated for the 100-year return period can exceed 300 cm for several sections of the Laptev Sea coast, with the maximum sea level range being about 680 cm for Anabar and Ebelyakh Bays.

Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of factors causing the change in the real gage factor of high-temperature strain gages installed with ceramic cements. A calibration tool to mimic the load on the strain gage during the testing of gas turbines and to determine the real gage factor is described. Calibration data obtained for two samples of nickel–chromium strain gages and two samples of iron–chromium–aluminum strain gages are given and analyzed.

Abstract

Background. Aplastic anemia proceeds with bone marrow failure and is associated with immunological suppression of normal blood stem cells’ proliferation, which lead to bone marrow aplasia. autoimmune aggression and internal defects of blood stem cell that cause abnormal hematopoiesis are being actively studied. An important role in the pathogenesis of the aplastic anemia is played by instability of telomere length (TL). determination of the initial TL makes it possible to clearly differentiate between the aplastic anemia and dyskeratosis congenita. also, it helps to identify the group of patients with short telomeres for prediction of therapy response. Aim. To investigation the TL of various blood and bone marrow cells in patients with aplastic anemia before treatment. Materials and methods. The group of patients with aplastic anemia was investigated (n = 45). blood donors (n = 32) and bone marrow donors (n = 10) of different ages were included in the reference group. adult patients with dyskeratosis congenita (n = 5) were included in the comparison group. Relative and absolute tl was identified in peripheral blood and bone marrow mononuclear cells, monocytes, lymphocytes by flow-FISH technique (combination of flow cytometry and fluorescence in situ hybridization). Results. Relative and absolute TL was comparable in different blood and bone marrow cells in patients with aplastic anemia before treatment. TL in peripheral blood and bone marrow mononuclear cells wasn’t significantly differed in groups of patients with aplastic anemia and healthy donors. Telomeres in patients with dyskeratosis congenita were identified as “ultrashort” and were significantly shorter than in patients with aplastic anemia. Conclusion. Determination of TL in patients with aplastic anemia is modern examination method, which is a necessary step of differential diagnosis between aplastic anemia and dyskeratosis congenita, which is the disease from group of constitutional bone marrow aplasia. It is preferred to identify the TL in adult patients with aplastic anemia by the flow-FISH. It is necessary to investigate the TL to predict treatment response and to identify risks of developing adverse experiences, which include relapse and clonal evolution.

Abstract

Background. Tumor cell proliferation in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) may manifest with high leukocyte counts. In our work, we evaluate the association of high leukocyte counts with individual mutations, as well as their total contribution to the development of leukocytosis in AML. The results obtained should improve our understanding of pathogenic mechanisms leading to the leukocytosis in AML.Aim. To study the genetic landscape of AML with leukocytosis.Materials and methods. The laboratory data of 214 AML patients admitted to the National Medical Research Center for Hematology (Moscow) from 2010 to 2022 were retrospectively examined. Real-time PCR, capillary electrophoresis and NGS (next generation sequencing) methods were used to detect mutations of FLT3, NPM1, CEBPA, IDH1/2, DNMT3A, TET2 genes, and CBFB::MYH11, RUNX1::RUNX1T1 chimeric gene transcripts.Results. Mutations of the FLT3 gene (odds ratio 5.45; p < 0.0001), inv(16)/CBFB::MYH11 (odds ratio 10.03; p = 0.0009) are most associated with leukocyte counts higher than 30 × 109 / L in the debut of AML. Translocation t(8;21)/RUNX1::RUNX1T1 and adverse cytogenetic aberrations, such as -5/del(5q); -7 / del(7q); -17 / abn(17p), complex and monosomic karyotype were significantly associated with leukocyte counts lower than 30 × 109 / L at the time of disease manifestation (p < 0.0001). In the group of patients with intermediate cytogenetic risk bearing only IDH1/2, DNMT3A, and TET2 gene mutations, leukocyte counts at AML debut were significantly lower, whereas the most pronounced leukocytosis was observed in patients with a combination of driver mutations with IDH1/2, DNMT3A, and TET2 gene mutations or FLT3, NPM1, and CEBPA gene mutations.Conclusion. In addition to the individual effect of certain genetic lesions and cytogenetic aberrations on the proliferative potential of tumor cells, there is a total contribution of various types of genetic events to the development of leukocytosis in AML. High leukocyte counts at the time of AML manifestation in patients with intermediate cytogenetic risk can serve as an indirect marker of the presence of a large number of genetic aberrations with a combination of IDH1/2, DNMT3A, and TET2 gene mutations or FLT3, NPM1, and CEBPA gene mutations.

Abstract

Background. The relevance of the topic of this work is due to the need to increase the reliability and quality of the results of measuring control of modules of various levels and antenna arrays that are part of the onboard radio engineering complex, as well as to increase the reliability and parametric efficiency of the radio engineering complex. Aim. Development of a method and methodology for integrated control of radio frequency modules of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd levels in the process of design, production and testing based on modern automation tools and processes. Methods. Full-scale experiment, computer modeling, programming, expert assessments, research, autonomous and acceptance tests were used. Results. The choice of a working control model was made. Based on it, an automated workplace has been developed. It includes integrated control and measuring equipment controlled by special software, a software package with a common operator interface. To control the testing process, a software package has been developed that automatically sets the necessary operating modes of the modules and provides a stimulating signal from the vector network analyzer in accordance with the specified parameters. After the end of testing, a test report is generated and printed. If the modules are tested for compliance with technical specifications, the protocol is formed in accordance with GOST. The test sequence is developed using the NI TestStand automated testing environment, and the routines that control the operating modes of the products are developed using C/C++ and NI LabVIEW graphical development tools. The automated workplace implements the following functions: functional electronic control of circuits and nodes of radio frequency modules and the product as a whole, electrical integrity control of circuits and nodes of frequency modules, programming of digital components, conducting complex tests of frequency modules, conducting complex tests of antennas and antenna arrays. The developed algorithm includes a stage of self-testing of the automated workplace hardware. After entering the necessary information, a step-by-step cycle of monitoring the module parameters is started. It begins with the connection of the device under test to the automated workplace and ends with the preparation of a test report and a message about the validity or unfitness of the totality of the measured parameter values. The final conclusion about the operability of the control object is made automatically after the measurement of all parameters is completed in the form of a pop-up dialog box. Abstract

Introduction: The study of the pharmacokinetics of glucocorticosteroids is often required to solve fundamental and applied tasks of pharmacology. HPLC methods based on ultraviolet detection are attractive due to their availability, but their sensitivity is low enough to study in vivo kinetics. In this study, we propose a method for the determination of dexamethasone in biological objects, based on the use of HPLC with UV detection and having sufficient sensitivity to determine the drug in biological media (blood and periarticular tissues). Materials and methods: Extraction of dexamethasone from biosamples was carried out by liquid-liquid extraction with acetone in an acidic medium using atenolol as an internal standard. The analysis was carried out on a Kromasil-100 C18 column. A mixture of methanol with phosphate buffer in the ratio 50÷50, pH=5.6 was used as the mobile phase. Detector - UV, wavelength - 254 nm. The LLOQ of the method was 50 ng/mL; the calibration curve demonstrated linearity in the con-centration range of 50-1000 ng/mL.The method was used to detect the medicinal product in peri-synovial tissues of rats with an autoimmune arthritis model. Results: This study demonstrated that intraarticular injection of the liposomal form of dexamethasone, compared with its water-soluble form, allows maintaining the active concentration of the product in the joint and periarticular tissues for a longer time, which creates prerequisites for enhancing its therapeutic effect. Conclusion: The proposed method provides a sensitive and specific approach for measuring dexamethasone in biological samples, such as blood and periarticular tissues. Preliminary findings indicate that the liposomal form of dexamethasone may exhibit better pharmacokinetic properties than the water-soluble form, which could lead to improved therapeutic outcomes.

Актуальность. Существуют доказательства, что инсульт, ассоциированный с фибрилляцией предсердий, имеет кардиоэмболический генез, при этом основной источник тромбов — ушко левого предсердия. Изоляция данного образования может стать дополнением или альтернативой пожизненному приему антикоагулянтов. Цель. Оценить отдаленную эффективность сопутствующей рутинной изоляции ушка левого предсердия в профилактике ишемического инсульта для кардиохирургических пациентов, прооперированных с использованием искусственного кровообращения. Методы. В ретроспективное одноцентровое исследование включили пациентов старше 18 лет, прооперированных с использованием искусственного кровообращения в ИНВХ им. В.К. Гусака с декабря 2017 г. по январь 2022 г. Критерии исключения — отсутствие информации об отдаленных исходах; гемодинамически значимое поражение брахиоцефальных сосудов; фарфоровая аорта; инфекционный эндокардит; злокачественные новообразования, аутоиммунные заболевания и системные васкулиты в анамнезе; острый коронарный синдром, повторные вмешательства на открытом сердце, а также процедуры с использованием мини-доступа. Разделили пациентов на 2 группы: первая — с сопутствующей изоляцией ушка левого предсердия, вторая — с интактным ушком левого предсердия. Дополнительно разделили пациентов с дооперационной фибрилляцией предсердий и без данной аритмии. Первичная конечная точка — ишемический инсульт. Вторичные конечные точки — выживаемость, периоперационный инфаркт миокарда и фибрилляция предсердий, время искусственного кровообращения и пережатия аорты, количество рестернотомий по причине кровотечения, продолжительность пребывания пациентов в отделении интенсивной терапии и кардиохирургическом стационаре. Результаты. После первичного анализа и применения критериев исключения сформировали группы с изоляцией ушка левого предсердия из 216 пациентов, с интактным ушком левого предсердия — из 179. Среди 129 пациентов с дооперационной фибрилляцией предсердий сопутствующая изоляция ушка левого предсердия в 69 случаях выполнена и в 60 — нет. Среди 266 пациентов без фибрилляции предсердий в анамнезе данная процедура в 147 случаях проведена и в 119 — нет. Согласно многофакторному регрессионному анализу Кокса с включением всех пациентов, изоляция ушка левого предсердия — независимый предиктор снижения частоты ишемического инсульта (отношение рисков 0,20; 95% доверительный интервал 0,06–0,62; p = 0,006). Исключение больных с фибрилляцией предсердий из анализа приводит к потере преимуществ данной процедуры. По вторичным конечным точкам различий не выявили. Заключение. Изоляция ушка левого предсердия — эффективный и безопасный метод профилактики отдаленного ишемического инсульта для пациентов с фибрилляцией предсердий, оперируемых в условиях искусственного кровообращения. Abstract

The process of recrystallization occurring at temperature of +80°C in aluminum (Al) conductors of integrated circuits (IC) designed to operate in the range -40°C -+60°C has been studied experimentally by the method of cross sections obtained with a focused ion beam (FIB). Using the data of a comparative analysis of IC used in various operating conditions, the mechanism of electromigration caused by the supply of operating voltage to IC under the influence of elevated temperature was revealed. Defects, caused by the electromigration of the substance, which appeared as a result of recrystallization processes in the Al conductors of the IC, were investigated. The cause was determined and technological solutions were proposed to improve the reliability of Al conductors at elevated temperatures under conditions when it is impossible to change the technological process of the IC production. The obtained results can be used for the development of IC as well as in the educational programs related to the microelectronics and materials sciences.

The article presents a methodical approach to the management of the innovative potential of enterprise, this approach consists of principles and provisions, tasks, stages, methods and parameters for identification, analysis, assessment of sectoral, competitive, market conditions of activity of domestic enterprises, their problems, threats, and opportunities for development. The shortage of capital, technology, staffing for the development of domestic enterprises under martial law indicates the need to solve problems, develop and use new approaches, management tools, methodological provision for the formation and implementation of their innovative potential. Taking into account the results of the analysis of economic conditions, which are characterized by signs of circularity, combine various regularities and hybrid forms of scientific and technological development, the article determines regularities of innovative processes, features and signs of their growing digital transformation, the use of innovative tools of production, organization and management in terms of support and development of business. It is substantiated that the directions of formation of methodological provision in order to implement and support the innovation potential and innovation activity of enterprise are fully determined by the sequence and content of the processes of development and implementation of its innovation strategy. In general, the process of developing a strategy for innovative development of an enterprise is a certain set of tasks to determine the strategic priorities of innovative development, to develop an effective business model, organize and invoke the innovation activity, form an innovative strategic portfolio of enterprise.

In this review, we have summarized the data on currently available imaging techniques which help to improve diagnosis and our understanding of LD pathogenesis. Ultra-wide field imaging provides reliable color fundus capturing for the primary diagnosis of LD and may also be used as a screening tool. Wide-field imaging can be used for targeted documentation of LD lesions using true colors and with minimal optical distortions. Information on the status of the vitreoretinal interface, including detection of retinal holes, detachments, and vitreous tractions, can be obtained with peripheral structural optical coherence tomography (OCT) or scanning laser ophthalmoscopy in retro-mode. These techniques clarify the associated risks of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment. Fundus autofluorescence can provide details on atrophic changes. However, the risk of retinal detachment by means of this technique requires further investigation. OCT angiography may be successfully performed for some lesions. Taken together, OCT and OCT angiography demonstrate thinning of the choroid, alteration of local choroidal microcirculation, and, in severe lesions, involvement of the sclera. OCT angiography confirms loss of retinal microcirculation within LD lesion, which was previously shown with fluorescein angiography. In conclusion, despite relatively simple primary diagnosis, imaging of LD lesions remains challenging due to their peripheral localization. Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is the most common cause of death worldwide. In this regard, there is a need to find and implement effective methods for the prevention and treatment of such diseases. Lifestyle modification is an important component of a complex of preventive and therapeutic measures, including nutrition optimization, increased physical activity, and breaking bad habits. Currently, an actively developing area is the use of biologically active additives to food, in order to replenish the missing nutrients in the diet and maintain health. In the course of the present review, an analysis was made of randomized clinical trials performed over the past 5 years. The studies investigated both the short-term effects of taking omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (effect on the blood lipid spectrum, blood pressure levels) and longterm results (development of myocardial infarction, stroke, cardiovascular mortality). This supplement has demonstrated a positive effect on immediate outcomes, namely the reduction of total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein, triglycerides (lipid-lowering effect). However, there was no significant effect on long-term results. It also provides information on studies that have examined the cardioprotective effects of supplements such as resveratrol, red yeast rice, L-arginine, and curcumin. An analysis of publications has shown that these supplements have the potential to reduce the risk of development and progression of cardiovascular diseases due to possible hypolipidemic, endothelial protective, and antihypertensive effects. Nutraceutical support can be an effective addition to the basic treatment and help reduce morbidity and mortality due to cardiovascular disease.

Abstract

Background: During the new COVID-19 coronavirus infection pandemic, a growing incidence of autoimmune encephalitis cases has been observed. One of the primary problems related to patients with this highly lethal pathology is its timely early diagnostics and prescription of an optimal individual course of immunotherapy. In a debut of anti-NMDA receptor (inotropic glutamate receptor, selectively binding N-methyl D-aspartate) encephalitis, mental disorders are observed, prompting the initial admission of such patients to a psychiatric hospital. Then, the clinical picture of the disease is characterized by a significant polymorphism. In such cases, it is not always possible to suspect an autoimmune lesion of the nervous system. Clinical case description: In this article, we present a clinical case of a female patient with serologically confirmed autoimmune encephalitis against the background of the new coronavirus infection (U07.1 according to ICD-10). The disease onset involved psychiatric symptoms; the patient was transferred to the Department of neurology of the VGK BSMP No. 1 Municipal Clinical Hospital of Emergency Care No.1 from the municipal psychiatric hospital, when generalized cerebral symptoms appeared. According to the diagnostic criteria, mental disorders and generalized epileptic seizures are the most significant signs in the verification of autoimmune encephalitis. Autoimmune encephalitis was suspected based on the developed neurological symptoms and generalized epileptic seizures and confirmed by the detected anti-NMDA antibodies in the blood serum. The anti-NMDA antibody analysis in the blood and cerebrospinal fluid is the most informative way of autoimmune encephalitis diagnosis. Conclusion: Autoimmune encephalitis requires vigilance of physicians of all specialties who may encounter this disease. Timely diagnostic procedures and prescription of pathogenetically justified treatment are of importance.

Abstract

Background. Furanocoumarin-based drugs are used for photochemotherapy of various diseases. Sosnovsky’s hogweed can be an available source of furanocoumarins for the development of drugs.The aim of the study. To obtain stable emulsions containing furanocoumarins from Sosnowski’s hogweed and to evaluate their photocytotoxicity.Materials and methods. To obtain the emulsions, furanocoumarins were extracted with chloroform from the sap of the aerial part of the Sosnowski’s hogweed. The chloroform extract was clarified by silica gel gradient column chromatography. The extractive fraction containing furanocoumarins was analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography with ultraviolet (UV) detection. An extract with a high content of 8-methoxypsoralen was used to prepare two types of emulsions. The extract was dissolved in peach oil and emulsified in water with tween-80 (emulsion No. 1) and in an aqueous glycerin solution with lecithin (emulsion No. 2).The emulsions were tested for dark and photo-induced toxicity for human lung fibroblasts. The dose of UV radiation for the photoactivation of furanocoumarins was 9 J/cm2. A solution of chlorine e6 was used as a comparison photosensitizer.Results. The obtained emulsions contained 1 mg/ml 8-methoxypsoralen. Both emulsions were homogeneous at macro- and microscopic visualization, remained stable when stored under various temperature conditions for 14 days. Emulsion No. 2 did not show dark toxicity and caused a statistically significant inhibition of cell viability under UV irradiation at a concentration of 12.5–31.3 µg/mL. Emulsion No. 1 had a toxic effect on cells regardless of UV irradiation due to the content of tween-80. According to fluorescent microscopy, the phototoxic effect of emulsion No. 2 was manifested mainly due to apoptosis, in contrast to the effect of chlorine e6, in which there were more pronounced signs of cell necrosis.Conclusion. The developed experimental emulsions of furanocoumarins from Sosnovski’s hogweed are an example of promising medicinal photosensitizers of plant origin for phototherapy of various dermatological and oncological diseases.

Platinum group metals (PGMs) assume an important role within the chemistry and chemical engineering due to their exceptional chemical stability in high temperatures and various environmental conditions. Their unique attributes make them highly demanded materials across an array of industries. Nevertheless, the gradual depletion of PGM reserves underscores necessitates of recycling PGM-containing waste as a means to ensure the reasonable utilization of resources. Recycling of catalytic waste, in particular, presents a more cost-effective and environmentally sustainable approach acquiring these metals, in contrast to the conventional practice of mining from natural ores. Of particular importance are spent automotive catalysts, which represent a valuable source of platinum group metals, featuring substantially higher PGM concentrations than their naturally occurring counterparts. Conventionally, the recovering of PGMs from waste materials predominantly employs hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical processes. Unfortunately, these established techniques entail the utilization of potent oxidizing acidic solutions, including aqua regia and hydrochloric acid with chlorine gas, which exert adverse ecological consequences. In recent years, there has been a growing focus on the development of alternative methodologies that are both environmentally friendly and economically viable for the recovery of PGMs from spent catalysts. Notable among these emerging techniques are solvometallurgy, molecular recognition technology, and magnetic separation. This comprehensive review endeavors to study and assess the latest advancements in the recovery of platinum group metals from spent catalysts, meticulously evaluating their respective advantages and disadvantages. Through an analysis, this review aspires to identify the most promising method - one that combines environmental friendliness and economic feasibility.

Abstract

A small series of alkyne polycarbodiimides was thoroughly examined using electrospinning technique. To generate various elongated morphologies including fibers with a diameter ranging from 446 nm to 3.3 µm, we utilized solvents such as pyridine, dichloroethane, and tetrachloroethane. The choice of solvent was dictated by particular polycarbodiimide backbone structure bearing alkyne terminated alkyl pendants. In addition to our findings of continuous fibers by the scanning electron microscopy (SEM), we also applied optical microscopy to discover secondary structures, such as hemispheres and beads which may result from concentration/ solubility issues. The major finding is that heavily grafted alkyl polycarbodiimides are more prone to form discrete fibers, i.e., the presence of n-hexyl and n-dodecyl side chains may facilitate electrospinning. Overall, rigid polymer scaffolds carrying modifiable flexible pendants with functional groups seemed to be highly important and practical for various material science applications, such as development of carbonized fibers and novel drug delivery platforms.

Abstract

Mass measurements of $^{49,50}$Sc, $^{70}$As, $^{73}$Br and $^{196}$Hg nuclides produced at CERN's radioactive-ion beam facility ISOLDE are presented. The measurements were performed at the ISOLTRAP mass spectrometer by use of the multi-reflection time-of-flight and the Penning-trap mass spectrometry techniques. The new results agree well with previously known literature values. The mass accuracy for all cases has been improved.

Abstract

A calorimetric polarimeter based on inorganic LYSO scintillators is described. It has been designed for use in a storage ring to search for electric dipole moments (EDM) of charged particles such as the proton and deuteron. Its development and first use was on the Cooler Synchrotron (COSY) at the Forschungszentrum J\"ulich with 0.97 GeV/c polarized deuterons, a particle and energy suitable for an EDM search. The search requires a polarimeter with high efficiency, large analyzing power, and stable operating characteristics. With typical beam momenta of about 1 GeV/c, the scattering of protons or deuterons from a carbon target into forward angles becomes a nearly optimal choice of an analyzing reaction. The polarimeter described here consists of 52 LYSO detector modules, arranged in 4 symmetric blocks (up, down, left, right) for energy determination behind plastic scintillators for particle identification via energy loss. The commissioning results of the current setup demonstrate that the polarimeter is ready to be employed in a first direct search for an EDM on the deuteron, which is planned at COSY in the next two years.

Abstract

The J\"ulich Electric Dipole moment Investigation (JEDI) collaboration aims at a direct measurement of the Electric Dipole Moment (EDM) of protons and deuterons using a storage ring. The measurement is based on a polarization measurement. In order to reach highest accuracy, one has to know the exact trajectory through the magnets, especially the quadrupoles, to avoid the influence of magnetic fields on the polarization vector. In this paper, the development of a beam-based alignment technique is described that was developed and implemented at the COoler SYnchrotron (COSY) at Forschungszentrum J\"ulich. Well aligned quadrupoles permit one to absolutely calibrate the Beam Position Monitors (BPMs). The method is based on the fact that a particle beam, which does not pass through the center of a quadrupole, experiences a deflection. The precision reached by the method is approximately 40 micro meter. Some consequences for the design of a new high precision storage ring for EDM mesasurements are discussed., Comment: Submitted to "Journal of Instrumentation (JINST)"

Abstract

New high precision total and differential cross sections are reported for the $dp\to {}^3\textrm{He}\,\eta$ reaction close to threshold. The measurements were performed using the magnetic spectrometer ANKE, which is an internal fixed target facility at the COSY cooler synchrotron. The data were taken for deuteron beam momenta between $3.14641~\textrm{GeV}/c$ and $3.20416~\textrm{GeV}/c$, which corresponds to the range in excess energy $Q$ for this reaction between $1.14~\textrm{MeV}$ and $15.01~\textrm{MeV}$. The normalization was established through the measurement in parallel of deuteron-proton elastic scattering and this was checked through the study of the $dp\to {}^3\textrm{He}\,\pi^0$ reaction. The previously indicated possible change of sign of the slope of the differential cross sections near the production threshold, which could be explained by a rapid variation of the $s$- and $p$-wave interference term, is not confirmed by the new data. The energy dependence of the total cross section and the $90^{\circ}$ slope parameter are well explained by describing the final state interaction in terms of a complex Jost function and the results are significant in the discussion of $\eta$-mesic nuclei. In combination with recently published WASA-at-COSY data [P. Adlarson $et\, al.$, Phys. Lett. B 782, 297 (2018)], a smooth variation of the slope parameter is achieved up to an excess energy of $80.9~\textrm{MeV}$., Comment: 12 pages, 11 figures, preprint submitted to Physical Review C

Abstract

An in-situ study of Hall sensors based on single-layered graphene in neutron fluxes of a nuclear reactor to the fluence of 1.5e20 n/sq,m was conducted. The sensitivity of the sensors to the magnetic field remained stable throughout the experiment, while the resistance changes correlated with the increase in sample temperature due to radiation heating. The experiment confirmed the theoretical expectations regarding the high stability of graphene sensors to neutron irradiation. Necessary further improvement of sensor technology to optimize their characteristics, as well as radiation testing to determine the maximum permissible neutron fluence.

Abstract

A measurement of vector analyzing powers in elastic deuteron-carbon scattering has been performed at the Cooler Synchrotron COSY of Forschungszentrum J\"ulich, Germany. Seven kinetic beam energies between 170 and 380 MeV have been used. A vector-polarized beam from a polarized deuteron source was injected, accelerated to the final desired energy and stored in COSY. A thin needle-shaped diamond strip was used as a carbon target, onto which the beam was slowly steered. Elastically scattered deuterons were identified in the forward direction using various layers of scintillators and straw tubes. Where data exist in the literature (at 200 and 270 MeV), excellent agreement of the angular shape was found. The beam polarization of the presented data was deduced by fitting the absolute scale of the analyzing power to these references. Our results extend the world data set and are necessary for polarimetry of future electric dipole moment searches at storage rings. They will as well serve as an input for theoretical description of polarized hadron-hadron scattering.

Abstract

Shashlyk-type electromagnetic calorimeter (ECal) of the Multi-Purpose Detector at heavy-ion NICA collider is optimized to provide precise spatial and energy measurements for photons and electrons in the energy range from about 40 MeV to 2-3 GeV. To deal with high multiplicity of secondary particles from Au-Au reactions, ECal has a fine segmentation and consists of 38,400 cells ("towers"). Given the big number of "towers" and the time constraint, it is not possible to calibrate every ECal "tower" with beam. In this paper, we describe the strategy of the first-order calibration of ECal with cosmic muons.
