Geographic atrophy (GA) is an advanced form of age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and a leading cause of vision loss for which there are currently two FDA-approved treatments (pegcetacoplan and avacincaptad pegol). The complement system, a major effector arm of innate and adaptive immunity, has been implicated in the pathogenesis of GA. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the mechanisms underlying complement dysregulation in GA and the current therapeutic strategies to treat GA via targeting the complement system. This review covers the pathogenesis of GA with a focus on the role of the complement system, the mechanisms of complement dysregulation in GA, current therapeutic strategies targeting the complement system for GA, and ongoing clinical trials. We also discuss the challenges and future directions of complement-targeted therapy for GA. Despite the challenges, the complement system remains a promising target for developing novel therapeutics for GA and AMD. Further research is needed to optimize treatment strategies, identify predictive biomarkers, and understand the contributions of complement dysregulation to the pathological processes in GA and other retinal pathologies. Introduction: Drug abuse is a global public health issue that poses significant challenges to healthcare systems particularly in intensive care units (ICU). This study aims to assess the clinical profile and outcomes of drug abuse patients admitted to ICU of a tertiary care hospital in North India. Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted over period of 3 years involving drug abuse patients admitted to the ICU. Demographic data, clinical characteristics, substance abuse patterns, co-morbidities, severity scores and outcomes were recorded. Results: A total of 35 patients were included in the study. All patients were males with a mean age of 29.1(± 11.68). 25 patients were from rural areas. 42.8% were unemployed. Most of the patients (85.7%) were unmarried. 34.3% were students. Mean APACHE II score on ICU admission was 13. Most of patients were admitted for heroin overdose (60%). All 35 patients admitted in ICU had low Glasgow coma scale (GCS< 7). 32 (91.4%) patients had associated respiratory failure. 7 patients had cardiovascular instability. 4 (11.4%) patients developed multi-organ failure during the ICU stay. Mean duration of ICU stay was 3.4 (± 2.68). 23 (65.7%) patients got extubated within 24 hours of ICU admission. 4 patients expired (11.4% mortality) in study group. Sepsis was cause of death in one patient, 3 patients died of multi-organ failure Conclusion: Most of the overdose was due to opioids specifically of heroin. CNS depression was found in all drug overdose patients followed by respiratory failure. Multi organ involvement have poor outcome. Mortality ensued in 11.4% of admitted patients as a result of sepsis and multi-organ failure. Majority of the patients had good outcome especially patients who presented early to healthcare facility. Purpose: The study aims to examine whether job resourcefulness affects task performance through job crafting at the within-person level. Design/methodology/approach: The data were collected from employees of the tour and travel firms and their supervisors. Multilevel structural equation modeling (MSEM) was used for analysis due to the repeated data structure, for example, days (n = 900) nested in individuals (n = 180). Findings: Results show a positive association between job resourcefulness and task performance, with the full mediation of job crafting at the within-person level. Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disease, characterized by the elevated levels of blood glucose, known as hyperglycemia. It is one of the serious health challenges, and is rapidly becoming a significant cause of morbidity, and mortality, worldwide. The persistent hyperglycemic state in diabetes mellitus leads to the formation of advanced glycation end products (AGEs), which is identified as a key factor involved in the progression of diabetes, and diabetes‐associated late complications. keeping in view the medicinal properties of indole, and thiazole, in the present study, novel indole‐based thiazoles (1–26) were synthesized, and evaluated for their in vitro α‐glucosidase, and antiglycation activities. These indole‐based thiazoles were characterized from their spectral data. All these compounds showed moderate to excellent antiglycation activity (IC50 between 642.2±0.013 to 46.93±0.003 μM) including compounds 17, 20, 22–26 which showed a significant antiglycation activity as the reference molecule, rutin (IC50=56±0.008 μM) used as standard. Further, these derivatives exhibited significant α‐glucosidase inhibition activity (P<0.001) with IC50 in the range of 111.8±0.9001 and 666.5±1.0111 μM (standard drug acarbose: IC50=855.8±1.2001 μM). Binding interactions of these compounds with α‐glucosidase enzyme were studied in silico, which showed strong correlation with the experimental data. Inhibition of α‐glucosidase enzyme, and AGEs formation by these compounds suggest them as promising scaffolds for further studies. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In mathematical analysis, the q-analogue of a function refers to a modified version of the function that is derived from q-series expansions. This paper is focused on the q-analogue of the exponential function and investigates a class of convex functions associated with it. The main objective is to derive precise inequalities that bound the coefficients of these convex functions. In this research, the initial coefficient bounds, Fekete–Szegő problem, second and third Hankel determinant have been determined.
