258. Improved Duty Compensation Control-Based Bidirectional Resonant DC−DC Converter With Reduced Input-Current Ripple for Battery Energy Storage Systems

Abstract

This article proposes an improved duty control-based resonant bidirectional dc–dc converter (BDC) to remarkably minimize input-current ripple for battery energy storage systems. The proposed converter offers a resonant-boost operation using a pulsewidth-modulation (PWM) full-bridge circuit with a push-pull transformer under the forward mode. Whereas, in the backward mode, a resonant-buck operation is implemented with a PWM neutral-point-clamped (NPC)-type. Unlike conventional current-fed BDCs, the most appealing characteristic of the proposed converter is the NPC-type structure with a push-pull transformer, which can significantly mitigate the input-current ripple without using extra input-inductors. Moreover, the proposed BDC minimizes the conduction loss of the low-voltage side bottom switches by alleviating unbalanced dc offset-currents via proposed duty-compensation control under mismatched magnetizing inductances of the transformer's primary windings. The designed circuit operation is analyzed in detail and its practicability has been fully confirmed with the proportional-integral and spider-monkey-optimization control techniques-based experimental verifications using a prototype 1-kW test bed.

259. Bridgeless Filterless Neutral-Point-Clamped Resonant AC/DC Converter

Abstract

In this article, we present a bridgeless filterless neutral-point-clamped (NPC) resonant ac/dc converter. By using the push–pull transformer itself, with the primary-side switching modulation fixed at 0.5, the proposed ac/dc converter accomplishes theoretically zero input-current ripple and so does not need the extra input filter. Semibridgeless configuration reduces the conduction loss associated with an input full-bridge diode rectifier. The resonant NPC structure much reduces the voltage stress at turn-off instant; this aspect reduces the turn-off loss occurred at the secondary-side switches. Therefore, the proposed converter features low cost, high power density, and high efficiency. A prototype with 1-kW output power is implemented to verify the superior properties of the proposed ac/dc converter.

Abstract

The unique mechanism by which leaf margin cells regain potency and then form a plantlet in Kalanchoë spp. remains elusive, but involves organogenesis and embryogenesis in response to age, day length, nutrient availability and drought stress. In light of this, we investigated whether Target Of Rapamycin (TOR), a conserved protein kinase in eukaryotes which controls cell growth and metabolism in response to nutrient and energy availability, may regulate plantlet formation. KdTOR was expressed in the leaf margin at the site of plantlet initiation, in the early plantlet cotyledons and in the root tip of the developed plantlet. Both chemical and genetic inhibition of TOR Kinase activity in Kalanchoë daigremontiana leaves disrupted plantlet formation. Furthermore, downregulation of KdTOR in transgenic plants led to wide-ranging transcriptional changes, including decreased KdSTM and KdLEC1 expression, whereas auxin treatments induced KdTOR expression in the plantlet roots. These results suggest that the KdTOR pathway controls plantlet development in cooperation with auxin, organogenesis, and embryogenesis pathways. The ancient and highly conserved TOR Kinase therefore controls diverse and novel developmental pathways such as asexual reproduction within the land plant lineage.

Abstract

We consider smooth locally Hamiltonian flows on compact surfaces of genus $g\geq 2$ to prove their deviation of Birkhoff integrals for smooth observables. Our work generalizes results of Forni and Bufetov which prove the existence of deviation spectrum of Birkhoff integrals for observables whose jets vanish at sufficiently high order around fixed points of the flow. They showed that ergodic integrals can display a power spectrum of behaviours with exactly $g$ positive exponents related to the positive Lyapunov exponents of the cocycle so-called Kontsevich-Zorich, a renormalization cocycle over the Teichm\"uller flow on a stratum of the moduli space of translation surfaces. Our paper extends the study of the spectrum of deviations of ergodic integrals beyond the case of observables whose jets vanish at sufficiently high order around fixed points. We prove the existence of some extra terms in deviation spectrum related to non-vanishing of the derivatives of observables at fixed points. The proof of this new phenomenon is based on tools developed in the recent work of the first author and Ulcigrai for locally Hamiltonian flows having only (simple) non-degenerate saddles. 275. A metal–organic framework modulated to site-isolate Cl˙ pendants via radical inter-conversion for degrading hard-to-ionize aqueous organic wastes.

Abstract

Compared with conventional ˙OH, Cl˙ is longer-lived, more selective to destabilizing refractory electron (e−)-donating aqueous aromatics via radicalization, and renewable via e− transfer from aromatics to enable Cl˙ ↔ Cl− inter-conversion. To demonstrate the merits of Cl˙, a Cl pendant (ClSUP)-functionalized Zr-based metal–organic framework (UiO-66-Cl) was synthesized/modulated to impart mesoporosity for facilitating the diffusion of bulky aromatics into the porous architecture. UiO-66-Cl could site-isolate Cl− anions (Cl−SUP) near Lewis acidic Zr4+ cations (LA) and Brønsted acidic –OH (BA), on which ˙OH was produced via homolytic H2O2 dissection, desorbed, and bound to Cl−SUP to yield Cl˙SUPvia exothermic radical inter-conversion of ˙OH → Cl˙SUP (referred to as the overall ˙OH → Cl˙SUP route). UiO-66-Cl provided greater LA/BA strengths than UiO-66 un-functionalized with ClSUP/Cl−SUP, thus requiring a lower energy for ˙OH desorption, which was identified as the rate-determining step of homolytic H2O2 dissection on UiO-66 or the overall ˙OH → Cl˙SUP route on UiO-66-Cl. Consequently, Cl˙SUP productivity on UiO-66-Cl was higher than ˙OH productivity on UiO-66 (activity↑). Moreover, UiO-66-Cl exploited Cl˙SUP as the major decomposer of e−-donating aromatics (selectivity↑) via the e− transfer pathway (recyclability↑), as proved by DFT calculations, EPR spectroscopy, and filtration/scavenging/isotope control runs. Furthermore, UiO-66-Cl was more resistant to structural deformation upon exposure to extreme reaction environments than UiO-66 (stability↑), as verified by DFT calculations/XRD analysis. Hence, UiO-66-Cl (Cl˙SUP) outperformed UiO-66 (˙OH), SO42−-functionalized iron oxide (SO4˙−SUP), or NO3−-modified Mn oxide (NO3˙SUP) in degrading e−-donating, ionization-resistant aqueous aromatics (phenol, aniline, acetaminophen, sulfanilamide, and sulfamethoxazole) in terms of activity, selectivity, stability, and/or reusability. 300. A 105 dB Effective Dynamic Range Self- Capacitance Proximity Sensing System With Consecutive Double-Sided Conversion Technique

Abstract

This article presents a self-capacitance sensing system for proximity sensors with a wide offset capacitance range. Auto-calibration technique is adopted to compensate for the large sensor offset capacitance and achieve high sensitivity and dynamic range (DR). Sensor capacitance is converted to a voltage by a capacitance-to-voltage ( ${C}/{V}{)}$ converter that performs conversions during both the charge and discharge phases of operation, which we call consecutive double-sided conversion (CDSC). The conversion technique doubles the number of conversions compared to a conventional structure to improve the power efficiency. The adjustment of an appropriate duty cycle for the clock signal applied in the ${C}/{V}$ converter and delta-sigma modulator reduces the power consumption. A prototype chip has been fabricated in a 0.13 $\mu \text{m}$ CMOS technology. The analog circuits occupy an area of 0.264 mm2, dissipating 4.04 mW. It achieves an effective DR of 105 dB in a conversion time of 4.1 ms when the offset capacitance is 215 pF.
