Coastal zones, including a large number of sea islands, have experienced profound and often lasting landscape changes over the past half century. Understanding the drivers and ecological effects of these changes is a prerequisite for large-scale integrated coastal zone management (ICZM). In this study, landscape patterns of Tantoushan Island, China, for 1966, 2004, and 2012 were produced through landscape identification and classification of multi-resource remote sensing KH-7 homochromatic, QuickBird multispectral, and WorldView-2 multispectral imageries, and contemporaneous historical data. Analysis of landscape changes and drivers has shown drastic changes from 1966 to 2012, caused by afforestation, changes in exploitation methods, human-induced fire and diseases, as well as natural succession. Here, a simple weighted sum of CN values representing the runoff potential of specific landscape types from the TR-55 runoff prediction model was calculated to reflect the runoff potentials of the three different periods. The results suggest a marked fluctuation in runoff potential of Tantoushan Island from 1966 to 2012, despite an afforestation program since 1949 to optimize the vegetation structure of the island. Abstract: To study the fluvial interaction between Changjiang River and Poyang Lake, we analyze the observed changes of riverine flux of the mid-upstream of Changjiang River catchment, the five river systems of Poyang Lake and Poyang Lake basin. Inter-annual and seasonal variations of the water discharge and sediment exchange processes between Changjiang River and Poyang Lake are systematically explored to determine the influence of climate change as well as human impact (especially the Three Gorges Dam (TGD)). Results indicate that climate variation for the Changjiang catchment and Poyang Lake watershed is the main factor determining the changes of water exchanges between Changjiang River and Poyang Lake. However, human activities (including the emplacement of the TGD) accelerated this rate of change. Relative to previous years (1956–1989), the water discharge outflow from Poyang Lake during the dry season towards the Changjiang catchment increased by 8.98km3 y−1 during 2003–2010. Evidently, the water discharge flowing into Poyang Lake during late April–late May decreased. As a consequence, water storage of Poyang Lake significantly reduced during late April–late May, resulting in frequent spring droughts after 2003. The freshwater flux of Changjiang River towards Poyang Lake is less during the flood season as well, significantly lowering the magnitude and frequency of the backflow of the Changjiang River during 2003–2010. Human activities, especially the emplacement and operation of the TGD and sand mining at Poyang Lake impose a major impact on the variation of sediment exchange between Changjiang main river and Poyang Lake. On average, sediments from Changjiang River deposited in Poyang Lake before 2000. After 2000, Changjiang River no longer supplied sediment to Poyang Lake. As a consequence, the sediment load of Changjiang River entering the sea increasingly exists of sediments from Lake Poyang during 2003–2010. As a result, Poyang Lake converted from a depositional to an erosional system, with a gross sediment loss of 120.19Mty−1 during 2001–2010, including sand mining. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]

In order to investigate obscuration in high-luminosity type 2 active galactic nuclei (AGNs), we analyzed Chandra and XMM-Newton archival observations for 71 type 2 quasars detected at 0.05 < z < 0.73, which were selected based on their [O III] λ5007 emission lines. For 54 objects with good spectral fits, the observed hard X-ray luminosity ranges from 2 × 1041 to 5.3 × 1044 erg s–1, with a median of 1.1 × 1043 erg s–1. We find that the means of the column density and photon index of our sample are log NH = 22.9 cm–2 and Γ = 1.87, respectively. From simulations using a more physically realistic model, we find that the absorbing column density estimates based on simple power-law models significantly underestimate the actual absorption in approximately half of the sources. Eleven sources show a prominent Fe Kα emission line (EW>100 eV in the rest frame) and we detect this line in the other sources through a joint fit (spectral stacking). The correlation between the Fe Kα and [O III] fluxes and the inverse correlation of the equivalent width of the Fe Kα line with the ratio of hard X-ray and [O III] fluxes is consistent with previous results for lower luminosity Seyfert 2 galaxies. We conclude that obscuration is the cause of the weak hard X-ray emission rather than intrinsically low X-ray luminosities. We find that about half of the population of optically selected type 2 quasars are likely to be Compton thick. We also find no evidence that the amount of X-ray obscuration depends on the AGN luminosity (over a range of more than three orders of magnitude in luminosity). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The laser ranging interferometer onboard the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment Follow-On mission proved the feasibility of an interferometric sensor for inter-satellite length tracking with sub-nanometer precision, establishing an important milestone for space laser interferometry and the general expectation that future gravity missions will employ heterodyne laser interferometry for satellite-to-satellite ranging. In this paper, we present the design of an on-axis optical bench for next-generation laser ranging which enhances the received optical power and the transmit beam divergence, enabling longer interferometer arms and relaxing the optical power requirement of the laser assembly. All design functionalities and requirements are verified by means of computer simulations. In many estuaries, current velocity, suspended sediment concentration (SSC), and water depth have notable flood-ebb asymmetries in magnitude or duration. Such asymmetries can make marked impact on estuarine sediment transport and require in-depth analysis of the underlying mechanism. Based on field measurement over a neap-spring cycle in the Changjiang Estuary in January 2015, net suspended sediment transport modulated by multiple asymmetries were analyzed. The results showed that there were notable flood-ebb asymmetries in the current velocity, current duration, SSC, and water depth. The former two were ebb-dominated, while the latter two were flood-dominated. The net suspended sediment transport was landward and exhibited remarkable tidal fluctuation in magnitude. Ebb-dominated velocity and duration asymmetries favored seaward transport, but flood-dominated SSC and water depth asymmetries promoted landward transport. The relative contribution of these asymmetries to the net sediment transport was different and closely related to their asymmetry intensities. The magnitude of net sediment transport was highly modulated by the combined effects of these asymmetries. Further analyses revealed that the ebb-dominated asymmetries in velocity and duration were controlled by river flow, tidal wave deformation, and compensation flow of Stokes drift. The flood-dominated water depth asymmetry was related to the progressive tidal wave. The flood-dominated SSC asymmetry was mainly attributed to the lower SSCs in early ebbs, notable sediment supply limitation in late ebbs, wind wave height asymmetry, and gravitational circulation. Additionally, it is worth noting that the progressive tidal wave can yield strong current asymmetry, notable water depth asymmetry, and obvious wind wave height asymmetry during strong wind periods. • Multiple important flood-ebb asymmetries coexist in a tidal cycle in natural estuaries. • Net sediment transports are highly modulated by the combination of multiple asymmetries. • Flood- and ebb-dominated asymmetries play opposite roles in net sediment transport. • Compensation flow of Stokes drift has important influence on current asymmetry. • Variation in sediment availability for resuspension can yield notable SSC asymmetry. The quantitative analysis of sediment sources in a sink is an important scientific topic and challenge in provenance research. The characteristics of heavy minerals, combined with the geochemical constituents of detrital grains, provide a reliable provenance-tracing approach. We developed a mineral identification method to analyze the multiple grain-size fraction of sediments, from which the elemental geochemistry of hornblende was used to compare the characteristics of sediments from the Huaihe River and Huanghe (Yellow) River in eastern China. Elements that were statistically identified as being able to discriminate sediment provenance were employed to perform a quantitative analysis of the sources of sediments of the abandoned Huanghe River. Results reveal that the Huaihe River is characterized by a high amphibole content of >60% and that the Huanghe and abandoned Huanghe rivers have greater abundances of limonite and carbonate minerals compared with those of the Huaihe River. The contents of trace elements and rare earth elements in hornblende show that the sediments of the abandoned Huanghe River are similar to those of the Huanghe River but different from those of the Huaihe River. Furthermore, chemical mass balance was used to calculate the relative contributions of different provenances of sediment from the abandoned Huanghe River, and nine trace elements of hornblende were identified as discriminators of provenance. Approximately 2% of the hornblende in the abandoned Huanghe River is derived from the Huaihe River and 98% from the Huanghe River. Considering the proportion of hornblende in the total sediment, it is inferred that the contribution of Huaihe River sediment to the abandoned Huanghe River is approximately 0.5%. This study shows that mineral analysis using multiple grain-size fractions (within the wide range of 1Φ to 6Φ) with assessment in elemental geochemistry of hornblende can characterize the provenance of fluvial material in coastal zones. Two field campaigns in Dafeng and Jianggang were organized to compare spatial variations of hydrodynamic characteristics and sediment transport patterns on intertidal flats of different types with distinct human interferences along middle Jiangsu coast, China. The major contributors to the different patterns of sediment dynamics between the two tidal flats were offshore tidal current field and human interference. Offshore tidal force provide the basic setup of tidal current patterns on tidal flats, which is then modified by local morphology. Seawalls parallel to coast reduce tidal flat width, forcing tidal energy to dissipate within a shorter distance and thus influencing tidal flat morphology. Seawalls vertical to coast and major tidal current significantly reduce tidal current speed, which favors sediment deposition on tidal flats. Two seawalls built on both sides of the observational tidal flat profile caused much reduced current speed at Dafeng tidal flat, comparing to the offshore station. Being exposed to offshore radial tidal currents, hydrodynamics at Jianggang was much stronger than that at Dafeng. Residual currents at both areas showed net landward transport at the lower flat and net seaward transport at the upper flat, in favor to sediment accumulation at the middle flat. Sediment flux over tidal cycles showed net landward sediment transport at Dafeng, and net seaward transport at Jianggang, consistent with the convex-up accretion-dominated profile observed at Dafenge, and concave-up erosion-dominated profile observed at Jianggang. The instantaneons sediment flux changed significantly due to variations in velocity and sediment concentrations, but these terms counteracted with each other within tidal cycles, leading to the dominant role of Eulerian flux in determining net sediment flux over tidal cycles. Rip currents are narrow, powerful seaward currents that frequently occur on sandy shores, posing a significant hazard by quickly pulling swimmers into deeper waters, leading to numerous drowning incidents. As such, they are among the most dangerous natural threats in coastal zones. The Ω-RTR (dimensionless fall velocity-relative tide range) model is a widely recognised framework for classifying the geomorphic and dynamical states of beaches. Although this model does not explicitly predict the location, timing, and intensity of rip currents, it estimates the likelihood of rip currents forming at specific beach types. In this study, 33 representative touring beaches along the coasts of China were studied and the rip current risk of these beaches was evaluated with the Ω-RTR model. According to this classification, beaches can be categorised into eight types, seven of which are presented among the 33 Chinese beaches studied in this paper, and notably, the Ultra-Dissipative (UD) type is absent. The most common three beach types identified are Barred (B), Low Tide Bar/Rip (LTBR), and Non-Barred Dissipative (NBD). The former two are predominantly located in Shandong, Fujian, and Hainan provinces, while the latter is mainly found in Zhejiang, Fujian, and Guangxi provinces. The rip current risk across these beaches is primarily assessed as medium to high, with low-risk beaches primarily situated in Zhejiang, Fujian, and Guangxi provinces. There is minimal month-to-month variation in beach type and rip current risk along the Yellow Sea, Bohai Sea, the coast of Zhejiang Province, and the coasts of Hainan Island and Guangxi Province. However, notable seasonal variations in beach type and rip current risk are observed in Fujian Province. This study provides a comprehensive assessment of rip current risk across key coastal touring beaches in China. Additionally, it contributes to the expansion of data sources for the beach geomorphic-dynamical classification system. Analyzing the spatial-temporal changes in tropical cyclone (TC) tracks in the east China coastal ocean (ECCO) to quantify the magnitude of poleward and landward migration of TCs is of significant importance for coastal disaster mitigation and planning due to its susceptibility to the impacts of TCs. In this study, the TCs that affected the ECCO from 1949 to 2022 are classified into three typical types of tracks using the k-means clustering method, mass moments, and track interpolation based on TC location, shape, and intensity information. Type 1 is a northwestward track, Type 2 is a northwest to northeast-turning track, and Type 3 is a northwest to northeast-turning offshore track. Type 1 tracks mainly make landfall in southern China, while Type 2 predominantly makes landfall in eastern China. Moreover, the proportion of Type 1 decreases while their landfall percentage increases over time, and the proportion of Type 2 tracks is increasing. The probability of TC effects on the eastern and northern parts of the ECCO is increasing, and the boundary where the TC center reaches after landfall is shifting landward. During the period from 1994 to 2022, there has been a significant migration in TC tracks, with the mean centroid of the TCs affecting the ECCO shifting westward by 0.66° in longitude and northward by 1.26° in latitude, which means the magnitude of the poleward shift is about twice that of the landward shift. The stable and high-precision acquisition of attitude data is crucial for sustaining the long-term robustness of laser links to detect gravitational waves in space. We introduce an effective method that utilizes an adaptive weight optimization approach for the fusion of attitude data obtained from charge-coupled device (CCD) spot-positioning-based attitude measurements, differential power sensing (DPS), and differential wavefront sensing (DWS). This approach aims to obtain more robust and lower-noise-level attitude data. A system is designed based on the Michelson interferometer for link simulations; validation experiments are also conducted. The experimental results demonstrate that the fused data exhibit higher robustness. Even in the case of a single sensor failure, valid attitude data can still be obtained. Continental shelf islands are contributors of terrestrial sediment supply to shelf regions, and the sediment flux from these islands shall be quantified. We calculated the sediment flux of continental shelf islands in the southeastern China using two empirical equations under two preconditions. The first, the sediment load/yield of the islands has the same pattern as the adjacent small, mountainous rivers along the coastline; and the second, each of the islands was treated as a single catchment. The results show that the sediment supply from these islands reached an order of magnitude of 1 Mt/a, which is comparable to the supply from the local smaller rivers. A sensitivity analysis indicates that this value represents the lower limit of estimate; if the accurate amount of sub-catchments of any island is considered, then this value will be enhanced slightly. This study demonstrates that the sediment supply from continental shelf islands to oceans is an important factor affecting the regional sedimentation and, therefore, should be paid with attention. To detect low-frequency gravitational waves, it is necessary to eliminate the interference of geo-noise and build a laser interference gravitational-wave detection device in space. Space gravitational-wave detection missions, namely Taiji, LISA, and Tianqin, have been planning to achieve picometer sensitivity on an interferometer arm of several million kilometers to meet the gravitational-wave detection requirements. Because of the orbit evolution and the time delay in interferometer arms, the direction of the transmitted laser beam changes; consequently, a remote telescope cannot receive the laser beam to complete the inter-satellite laser interference. In this study, a two-dimensional point-ahead angle mechanism (2DPAAM) is designed and demonstrated to solve the aforementioned problem. Based on the design concept of aligning the rotation center with the mirror surface center, the 2DPAAM employs a four-link flexible-hinge structure, length expanding and contracting piezoelectric stack actuators, and closed-loop control of capacitive sensors to realize two-dimensional picometer-stable, high-precision rotation. A static model is established to analyze the rotational characteristics, and finite element analysis is performed to study the mechanical properties and to verify the rotational characteristics. The yaw and pitch stiffness errors are ∼0.93% and 5.9%, respectively, when the theoretical results are compared with the simulation results. A series of experiments are conducted on the developed 2DPAAM, and the results show that the rotary ranges of yaw and pitch motions attain ±270 and ±268 µrad, respectively. The rotational accuracies of both yaw and pitch motions attain ∼0.35 µrad, and the optical path difference is less than 10 pm / Hz when the frequency is between 1 mHz and 1 Hz, by analogy. Background: Gut microbiota could affect the onset and development of vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) through modulating metabolic and immune pathways. However, the vascular mechanisms involved remain unclear. Objective: To investigate the gut microbiota associated with VCI and examine the mediating effects of regional cerebral blood flow (CBF) to explore potential therapeutic targets for VCI. Methods: This prospective study enrolled patients with VCI (n = 16) and healthy controls (n = 18) from the Chinese Imaging, Biomarkers, and Lifestyle study between January 1 and June 30, 2022. The gut microbiota composition and diversity were determined by 16 S ribosomal RNA gene sequencing. The association between gut microbiota and Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) scores was determined using Spearman's correlation analysis. Regional CBF was calculated using pseudo-continuous arterial spin labeling. The mediating effects of regional CBF on the relationship between specific gut microbiota and cognition in VCI were investigated using mediation analysis. Results: Compared to healthy controls, patients with VCI had significantly greater abundance of Bifidobacterium, Veillonella, R uminococcus gnavus , Fusobacterium, and Erysipelatoclostridium and smaller abundance of Collinsella. The abundance of Ruminococcus gnavus was negatively associated with MoCA scores in patients with VCI, with the CBF in the left hypothalamus, right hypothalamus, and left amygdala accounting for 63.96%, 48.22%, and 36.51%, respectively, of this association after adjusting for confounders. Conclusions: Ruminococcus gnavus is associated with cognition in VCI, which is strongly mediated by CBF in the bilateral hypothalamus and left amygdala. Future GRACE-like geodesy missions could benefit from adopting accelerometer technology akin to that of the LISA Pathfinder, which employed laser interferometric readout at the sub-picometer level in addition to the conventional capacitive sensing, which is at best at the level of 100 pm. Improving accelerometer performance holds great potential to enhance the scientific output of forthcoming missions, carrying invaluable implications for research in climate, water resource management, and disaster risk reduction. To reach sub-picometer displacement sensing precision in the millihertz range, laser interferometers rely on suppression of laser-frequency noise by several orders of magnitude. Many optical frequency stabilization methods are available with varying levels of complexity, size, and performance. In this paper, we describe the performance of a Mach–Zehnder interferometer based on a compact monolithic optic. The setup consists of a commercial fiber injector, a custom-designed pentaprism used to split and recombine the laser beam, and two photoreceivers placed at the complementary output ports of the interferometer. The structural stability of the prism is transferred to the laser frequency via amplification, integration, and feedback of the balanced-detection signal, achieving a fractional frequency instability better than 6 parts in 10 13 , corresponding to an interferometer pathlength stability better than 1 pm / Hz . The prism was designed to host a second interferometer to interrogate the position of a test mass. This optical scheme has been dubbed "single-element dual-interferometer" or SEDI. A new off-axis optical design alternative to that of the GRACE Follow-on mission for future NGGM missions is considered. In place of the triple-mirror assembly of the GRACE Follow-on mission, a laser retro-reflector is instead generated by means of lens systems. The receiving (RX) beam and transmitting (TX) beam are enforced to be anti-parallel by a control loop with differential wavefront sensing (DWS) signals as readout, and a fast-steering mirror is employed to actuate the pointing of the local beam. The tilt-to-length (TTL) coupling noise of the new off-axis optical bench layout is carefully studied in the present work. Local TTL originated from piston noise as well as assembly and alignment errors of optical components are studied. Effort is also made to have an in depth understanding of global TTL due to relative attitude jitter between spacecraft. The margin of TTL noise in the position noise budget for laser ranging is examined. With an open loop control of the offset between the reference point of the optical bench and the centre of mass of a satellite, the TTL noise of the new off-axis optical bench design may be suppressed efficiently. This paper evaluates the potential application of Raman baselines in characterizing organic deposition. Taking the layered sediments (Stromatolite) formed by the growth of early life on the Earth as the research object, Raman spectroscopy is an essential means to detect deep-space extraterrestrial life. Fluorescence is the main factor that interferes with Raman spectroscopy detection, which will cause the enhancement of the Raman baseline and annihilate Raman information. The paper aims to evaluate fluorescence contained in the Raman baseline and characterize organic sedimentary structure using the Raman baseline. This study achieves spectral image fusion combined with mapping technology to obtain high spatial and spectral resolution fusion images. To clarify that the fluorescence of organic matter deposition is the main factor causing Raman baseline enhancement, 5041 Raman spectra were obtained in the scanning area of 710 μm × 710 μm, and the correlation mechanism between the gray level of the light-dark layer of the detection point and the Raman baseline was compared. The spatial distribution of carbonate minerals and organic precipitations was detected by combining mapping technology. In addition, based on the BI-IHS algorithm, the spectral image fusion of Raman fluorescence mapping and reflection micrograph, polarization micrograph, and orthogonal polarization micrograph are realized, respectively. A fusion image with high spectral resolution and high spatial resolution is obtained. We present a Chandra observation of IRAS 19254–7245, a nearby ultraluminous infrared galaxy also known as the Superantennae. The high spatial resolution of Chandra allows us to disentangle for the first time the diffuse starburst (SB) emission from the embedded Compton-thick active galactic nucleus (AGN) in the southern nucleus. No AGN activity is detected in the northern nucleus. The 2-10 keV spectrum of the AGN emission is fitted by a flat power law (Γ = 1.3) and an He-like Fe Kα line with equivalent width ∼1.5 keV, consistent with previous observations. The Fe Kα line profile could be resolved as a blend of a neutral 6.4 keV line and an ionized 6.7 keV (He-like) or 6.9 keV (H-like) line. Variability of the neutral line is detected compared with the previous XMM-Newton and Suzaku observations, demonstrating the compact size of the iron line emission. The spectrum of the galaxy-scale extended emission excluding the AGN and other bright point sources is fitted with a thermal component with a best-fit kT of ∼0.8 keV. The 2-10 keV luminosity of the extended emission is about one order of magnitude lower than that of the AGN. The basic physical and structural properties of the extended emission are fully consistent with a galactic wind being driven by the SB. A candidate ultraluminous X-ray source is detected 8″ south of the southern nucleus. The 0.3-10 keV luminosity of this off-nuclear point source is ∼6 × 1040 erg s–1 if the emission is isotropic and the source is associated with the Superantennae. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

This study analyzed the characteristics and the bearing capacity of water surge disasters in Boao Bay, a typical estuarine lagoon. The Danish Hydraulic Institute's (DHI's) MIKE 21 modeling suite was used to numerically simulate the water surges from flood, storm, and combined flood and storm processes. The results show that, in Boao Bay, the peak water surge level caused by the combination of flooding and storm surges is very similar to the level caused by flooding or storm surges alone. Additionally, the storm surge bearing capacity is much greater than the flood bearing capacity. When there is only one entrance, the bay's flood bearing capacity increases with the entrance width, but when the entrance width exceeds 550 m, the flood bearing capacity stabilizes rapidly. However, opening an additional entrance to the south can further increase the flood bearing capacity. Based on hydrometeorological forecasts, this study suggests that the risk of water surge disasters can be reduced by proactively modifying the shape of the entrance. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

The sediment source-to-sink process is an important topic in marine sedimentology. However, how sedimentary signals evolve along source-to-sink path remains less clear. This study focuses on the southward shift of the Huanghe River course between AD 1128 and 1855, and the manifestation and variation of sedimentary signals in a natural diffusion system were investigated through sedimentological analysis of three spatially adjacent regions, the abandoned Huanghe Delta, the central coast of Jiangsu, and the Changjiang Delta. Laboratory analyses including Optically Stimulated Luminescence (OSL), geochemical element analysis, and grain size analysis, were conducted. The results show that sedimentary signals manifest in various forms, primarily manifested in two ways: grain size refinement and sedimentation rate acceleration. The fining of grain size is most pronounced in the abandoned Huanghe delta, followed by the central coast of Jiangsu, and is least pronounced in the Changjiang subaqueous delta. The response of the coastal system to the event was delayed by approximately 0–100, 100–300, and 300–500 years for the abandoned Huanghe Delta, the central coast of Jiangsu, and the Changjiang River Delta, respectively. These findings indicate that sediment transport processes exhibit sedimentary signal attenuation and response lag. This study not only highlights the variation along the source-sink path of coastal sedimentary signals but also illuminates the sedimentary record of drastic changes in sediment flux, which will help study the source-to-sink process given the variable changes in sedimentary fluxes. • The contribution of Huanghe derived sediments to the Changjiang Delta illustrates the remote connectivity of the coastal system. • The sedimentary signals vary in the coastal system induced by shifts in the Huanghe River course. • The sedimentary signals are quantified to be gradually lagged from the abandoned Huanghe delta to the Changjiang subaquous delta, ranging from 0 to 500 years. [Display omitted] • Hederagenin inhibits ferroptosis in HT22 cells induced by glutamate. • Hederagenin blocks ferroptosis by regulating the PPARα/Nrf2/GPX4 signaling pathway. • We conducted molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations on key targets in this signaling pathway. Hederagenin (HG), derived from ivy seeds, is known to offer protection against Alzheimer's disease (AD). However, the specific molecular pathways through which it counters ferroptosis-induced neurotoxicity are not fully elucidated. This investigation seeks to delineate the processes by which HG mitigates neurotoxic effects in HT22 cells subjected to glutamate (Glu)-induced ferroptosis. HT22 cell ferroptosis was prompted by Glu exposure. Cell viability was assessed using CCK-8 and LDH assays, while Fe2+ fluorescence and assays of iron-related proteins served to gauge intracellular Fe2+ concentrations. Evaluations of mitochondrial structure and functionality employed JC-1 staining and transmission electron microscopy. Assessments of ROS, lipid peroxidation, MDA, 4-HNE, and the GSSG/GSH ratio were conducted to ascertain HG's antioxidative efficacy. The expression of proteins within the PPARα/Nrf2/GPX4 pathway was quantified via western blotting, with molecular docking (MD), and molecular dynamics simulations (MDS) used to explore protein interactions. HG diminished the cellular toxicity triggered by Glu in HT22 cells, lowered Fe2+ within cells, and rejuvenated mitochondrial morphology and performance. Concurrently, it modulated proteins critical to Fe2+ metabolism, diminished ROS and lipid peroxidation, and elevated GSH/GSSG ratios. Enhanced PPARα/Nrf2/GPX4 protein levels were corroborated by western blot results. Furthermore, molecular docking revealed favorable binding of HG to the proteins PPARα, Nrf2, and GPX4, with binding energies of −7.751, −7.535, and −7.414 kcal/mol, respectively. MDS confirmed robust interactions between HG and these pivotal targets. The evidence suggests that HG effectively mitigates Glu-induced ferroptosis in HT22 cells by activating the PPARα/Nrf2/GPX4 signaling pathway.
