Abstract

We developed FRAM(FRAM is a registered trademark of Ramtron International Corporation that stands for FeRAM) technologies that are fully compatible with half-micron CMOS logic's. The technologies achieve 1T/1C FRAM cell 12.5um 2 in a size and 68k-FRAM embedded 8bit-MCU. The CMOS transistors work at 5V for a cell operation and 3V for a logic operation. We did not use a COB to employ a present CMOS processing, and used the local interconnect to reduce a chip size. We used the W plug to contact to deep diffusion layers through high-aspect contact holes. The CMP planarization was used to relax PZT deposition and Pt etching. To prevent the process degradation of PZT, we used single Al wiring with SOG as an interlayer dielectric. The cover dielectric was formed with plasma TEOS-CVD without SiN to prevent the process degradation at this case. The SiN cover will be indispensable in real products. These technologies achieved a cell size 6.95× 1.8=12.5(um 2 ) for 1T/1C and 4.2× 6.5=27.3(um 2 ) for 2T/2C that are the smallest cell size in FRAM's that do not use a COB structure and a poly-plug as a storage.

Abstract

The objectives of this paper are to propose a method that can accurately estimate the human heart rate (HR) using an ultrawideband (UWB) radar system, and to determine the performance of the proposed method through measurements. The proposed method uses the feature points of a radar signal to estimate the HR efficiently and accurately. Fourier- and periodicity-based methods are inappropriate for estimation of instantaneous HRs in real time because heartbeat waveforms are highly variable, even within the beat-to-beat interval. We define six radar waveform features that enable correlation processing to be performed quickly and accurately. In addition, we propose a feature topology signal that is generated from a feature sequence without using amplitude information. This feature topology signal is used to find unreliable feature points, and thus, to suppress inaccurate HR estimates. Measurements were taken using UWB radar, while simultaneously performing electrocardiography measurements in an experiment that was conducted on nine participants. The proposed method achieved an average root-mean-square error in the interbeat interval of 7.17 ms for the nine participants. The results demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed method. The significance of this study for biomedical research is that the proposed method will be useful in the realization of a remote vital signs monitoring system that enables accurate estimation of HR variability, which has been used in various clinical settings for the treatment of conditions such as diabetes and arterial hypertension. Abstract

A new type of high voltage generator has been designed with the aim of developing a compact, inexpensive and easily maintained generator for energetic ion beam analyses such as Rutherford backscattering and particle induced X-ray emission. It consists of several rotating disks and fixed plates made of insulator with metal plates. Since the structure is similar to a rotating disk-type generator, such as the Disktron, it should basically have the potential to display indicators such as compact size and reliable generated voltage stability. Its generating mechanism is, however, rather similar to rectifier-type generators, such as the Cockcroft- Walton and the Schenkel types, so that there are no friction components which might produce a lot of dust, thus opening the high pressure tank for cleaning is an infrequent operation. The proposed generator can be produced relatively inexpensively. A single module model has been built and its generating ability was studied. 297. Impact of immediate breast reconstruction on postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy: a single center study.

Abstract

Background: Various studies have indicated a worldwide increase in the number of immediate breast reconstruction surgeries. However, breast reconstruction should not delay or prevent postoperative cancer therapeutics such as adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In response to these developments, our team researched the impact of immediate breast reconstruction on postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Methods: From April 2006 to March 2011, 116 patients at Saitama Cancer Center underwent postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy following mastectomy with or without immediate breast reconstruction. Fifty patients received postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy following mastectomy with immediate breast reconstruction (IBR group), and 66 patients received the same treatment but without immediate breast reconstruction (non-IBR group). The outcomes were studied retrospectively by chart review. Patients' average age, body mass index, postoperative complication rate, and days to adjuvant chemotherapy were calculated. Results: Mean age and body mass index of patients were 47.0 ± 9.0 years, 22.2 ± 3.0 kg/m and 55.5 ± 10.1 years, 23.0 ± 3.6 kg/m in IBR group and non-IBR group, respectively. Postoperative complication rate was 10.0 % in IBR group and 6.1 % in non-IBR group. Days to adjuvant chemotherapy was 61.0 ± 10.5 days in IBR group and 58.0 ± 12.3 days in non-IBR group. Conclusions: Although complication rate and days to adjuvant chemotherapy were slightly increased in IBR group, the delay was not critical to the initiation of adjuvant chemotherapy in these patient groups. Abstract

Background: Cancer subtype has recently become an increasingly important consideration when deciding the treatment strategy for breast cancer. For the estrogen receptor positive (ER+) subtype, the efficacy of adjuvant endocrine therapy is definitive, but that of adjuvant chemotherapy is controversial. Methods: In order to evaluate the effect of adding doxorubicin (A) and cyclophosphamide (C) to tamoxifen (TAM) (ACT) on the overall survival (OS) of node-positive postmenopausal breast cancer (PMBC) patients, we conducted a randomized trial. Eligibility criteria included pathologically node-positive ( n = 1-9) PMBC, stage I-IIIA disease. Patients were randomized to receive either TAM (20 mg daily) for 2 years or A (40 mg/m) and C (500 mg/m) plus TAM (ACT) as adjuvant therapy following surgery. Results: One hundred twenty-nine patients were recruited (TAM 64, ACT 65) between October 1994 and July 1999. The hazard ratios for OS and relapse-free survival (RFS) were 0.58 (95 % CI 0.24-1.39; log-rank p = 0.22) and 0.45 (95 %CI 0.24-0.86; log-rank p = 0.013), respectively, in favor of ACT. The 5-year OS and RFS were 76.9 % (ER+ 87.1 %, ER− 53.3 %) and 54.9 % (ER+ 59.3 %, ER− 42.9 %) for TAM and 85.0 % (ER+ 90.0 %, ER− 77.1 %) and 76.7 % (ER+ 76.9 %, ER− 76.0 %) for ACT. A higher proportion of the patients receiving ACT than those receiving TAM experienced grade 3 decreased white blood cell count and grade 2-3 nausea. Conclusion: The efficacy of adding AC to TAM was not high for ER+, node-positive PMBC. However, adjuvant ACT therapy was considered to be effective for ER−, node-positive PMBC.
