Rhodiola rosea (RR) is a plant whose bioactive components may function as adaptogens, thereby increasing resistance to stress and improving overall resilience. Some of these effects may influence exercise performance and adaptations. Based on studies of rodents, potential mechanisms for the ergogenic effects of RR include modulation of energy substrate stores and use, reductions in fatigue and muscle damage and altered antioxidant activity. At least sixteen investigations in humans have explored the potential ergogenicity of RR. These studies indicate acute RR supplementation (∼200 mg RR containing ∼1 % salidroside and ∼3 % rosavin, provided 60 min before exercise) may prolong time-to-exhaustion and improve time trial performance in recreationally active males and females, with limited documented benefits of chronic supplementation. Recent trials providing higher doses (∼1500 to 2400 mg RR/d for 4–30 d) have demonstrated ergogenic effects during sprints on bicycle ergometers and resistance training in trained and untrained adults. The effects of RR on muscle damage, inflammation, energy system modulation, antioxidant activity and perceived exertion are presently equivocal. Collectively, it appears that adequately dosed RR enhances dimensions of exercise performance and related outcomes for select tasks. However, the current literature does not unanimously show that RR is ergogenic. Variability in supplementation dose and duration, concentration of bioactive compounds, participant characteristics, exercise tests and statistical considerations may help explain these disparate findings. Future research should build on the longstanding use of RR and contemporary clinical trials to establish the conditions in which supplementation facilitates exercise performance and adaptations. Purpose: Aspects of ESG have become key considerations during many M&A transactions. This ranges from the type of assets a firm purchases, to evaluating the management practices of target firms, to incorporating ESG assessments into due diligence checklists and valuation models, to including specific ESG provisions in the sale and purchase agreement (SPA). Companies are increasingly concluding that a more robust focus on ESG in deal-making allows for greater value to be captured. This article identifies how companies can go about incorporating ESG throughout the deal process, from pre-deal analysis through post-transaction integration. A case example is provided. Design/methodology/approach: This article provides key actions firms can take to incorporate ESG throughout the deal process, from pre-deal analysis through post-transaction integration. A case example from a large state-owned Norwegian utility is provided. Findings: Various components of ESG have rapidly become key considerations in transactions. Firms that incorporate ESG across their M&A process, both pre- and post-deal can reap significant benefits. While firms that ignore ESG during M&A not only miss the upside potential, but also risk making damaging and costly deal mistakes. Practical implications: M&A practitioners will find this article particularly useful, as many firms struggle with how to effectively include ESG in their transactions. Objective. Lung cancer is commonly diagnosed and is the leading cause of cancer-related death, morbidity, and burden of disease globally. There is an ongoing need to ensure patients receive optimal evidence-based care and to identify and reduce unwarranted clinical variation to achieve best possible outcomes. The EnRICH program has developed evidence-based clinical quality indicators to measure processes and outcomes of lung cancer care, and a feedback dashboard to report comparative performance data, which highlight variation in both care and outcomes. The aims of this study were to evaluate the acceptability and utility of the quality indicators and feedback dashboard and identify benchmarks for performance monitoring and priorities for future quality improvement interventions to address observed clinical variation. Method. Clinicians from lung cancer multidisciplinary teams (MDTs) at six tertiary clinical sites across regional and metropolitan NSW were invited to participate in evaluation interviews. Interviews were conducted via videoconference and recorded with consent. Data were analysed thematically using framework methods. Results. Thirteen clinicians participated in interviews, with representation from each clinical site and specialty. All participants considered the quality indicators to be clinically meaningful. Three main themes were identified: (i) the importance of timely, local, quality data; (ii) implementable versus nonimplementable clinical practice changes; and (iii) the need for ongoing performance monitoring. Clinicians prioritised two areas of unwarranted clinical variation that could be immediately addressed through easily implementable quality improvement interventions to positively impact patient care: (i) a process to ensure that all stage III patients are discussed by a multidisciplinary team prior to commencing treatment; (ii) a referral pathway to palliative care within eight weeks for patients diagnosed with stage IV disease. The importance of lung cancer nurse specialists for improved care coordination was highlighted. Conclusion. Clinicians would like to continue to receive close-to-real-time quality data for ongoing performance monitoring to identify and address unwarranted clinical variation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
