Abstract

Closed shell charmed hypernuclei $^5_{\Lambda_c}$Li, $^{17}_{\Lambda_c}$F, $^{41}_{\Lambda_c}$Sc, $^{57}_{\Lambda_c}$Cu, $^{133}_{\Lambda_c}$Sb and $^{209}_{\Lambda_c}$Bi are calculated within Hartree-Fock approach by using three different force sets derived from microscopic Brueckner-Hartree-Fock calculations of $\Lambda$ hypernuclei. Ground state properties (binding energies, $\Lambda_c$ separation energies, $\Lambda_c$ single particle energies and $\Lambda_c$ densities) of charmed nuclei are examined. Due to the Coulomb repulsion between protons and the $\Lambda_c$ baryon, charmed hypernuclei are most bound for $16\leq$A$\leq 41$, where $^{17}_{\Lambda_c}$F can be considered as an excellent candidate to measure charmed hypernuclei. The competition between the attractive nucleon-$\Lambda_c$ interaction and the Coulomb repulsion is discussed, and we compare $\Lambda$ and $\Lambda_c$ hypernuclei properties., Comment: 9 pages, 6 figures

Abstract

In end-to-end optimized learned image compression, it is standard practice to use a convolutional variational autoencoder with generalized divisive normalization (GDN) to transform images into a latent space. Recently, Operational Neural Networks (ONNs) that learn the best non-linearity from a set of alternatives, and their self-organized variants, Self-ONNs, that approximate any non-linearity via Taylor series have been proposed to address the limitations of convolutional layers and a fixed nonlinear activation. In this paper, we propose to replace the convolutional and GDN layers in the variational autoencoder with self-organized operational layers, and propose a novel self-organized variational autoencoder (Self-VAE) architecture that benefits from stronger non-linearity. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed Self-VAE yields improvements in both rate-distortion performance and perceptual image quality., Comment: Accepted for publication in IEEE International Conference on Image Processing (ICIP) 2021

Abstract

In this work, a non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) based transmission between two sources and two end-users is examined over independent non-identically distributed (i.n.i.d.) slow Nakagami-$m$ fading channels, where a single relay using decode-and-forward (DF) protocol is selected out of a set of full-duplex/half-duplex (FD/HD) multiple relays in accordance with the quality of service criterion. Two relay selection (RS) strategies, selecting a relay to maximize data rate of user 1 at selected relay and selecting a relay out of a set of relays providing service quality for user 1 to maximize data rate of user 2, are analyzed. Additionally, not only perfect successive interference cancellation (pSIC) but also imperfect SIC (ipSIC) is considered. The exact and asymptotic outage probability (OP) expressions are derived and validated via Monte Carlo simulation technique. Unlike existing works, our expressions are unique and valid for all cases such as FD and HD together with pSIC and ipSIC, i.e. expressions are not given separately but in a single compact form. Effect of each component such as pSIC, ipSIC, and self-interference (SI) for FD transmission on error floor of OP is demonstrated. Moreover, the optimum relay location is illustrated for a plenty of scenarios consisting of combination of different power allocations, data rates, pSIC/ipSIC, and total transmitted powers., Comment: 27 pages, 7 figures, 4 tables

Abstract

Many undergraduate and graduate physics students participate in some form of public engagement throughout the course of their studies, often through groups supported by physics departments and universities. These informal teaching and learning programs can offer unique opportunities for physics identity development. Understanding how physics identities can be fostered will allow us to work toward a field that is inclusive of more identities. In this study, we build on previous work to investigate student-facilitator experiences in three informal physics programs using an operationalized Communities of Practice framework. Through our analysis, we identify different structures within these programs that support physics identity development.
