Summary. Pipeline transport is used worldwide in many sectors of the economy. Its main advantages are continuity of transport, large transportation volumes, small energy consumption, safety, reliability and high environmental benefits. However, the safety problems of pipes attract much interest in science and industry. This paper deals with a cracked pipe with a static scheme of a simply supported beam. It rests along its entire length on a Pasternak elastic foundation. The flowing fluid is considered non-compressible and heavy. The Galerkin method is employed to approach the problem numerically. Conclusions are drawn based on the influence of the crack and the parameters of the Pasternak elastic foundation on the critical flow velocity of the fluid. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Strike-slip faults developed in the middle lower Ordovician carbonate formation in the T-SH area of Tarim Basin play an important role in controlling the migration and accumulation of hydrocarbon. The reservoir in the study area is reformed by multi-period fluid, and the influence of different component fluid on different positions of fault is of great significance to define the reservoir development model and determine the reservoir quality. Based on core samples observation, the characteristics of water–rock interaction along the fault in the study area are analyzed by scanning electron microscope and electron probe. The results show that the strike-slip fault in T-SH area is affected by two periods of fluid. The first period fluid flows from top to bottom. Its CaCO3 is supersaturated, alkaline environment and rich in clay elements (Al, Si, K and Fe). The clay elements in the fluid come from the upper Qiaerbake Formation. In the second period, the composition of the fluid is obviously single, the CaCO3 is under saturated. The fluid is in an acidic environment and contains a small amount of Al and Si elements. The fault core is only affected by the first period fluid and is dominated by cataclasis-cementation system. The broken breccia at the top of Yijianfang Formation is filled with clay and asphalt and cemented with bright calcite, and no open space is found. Fractures are well developed in the damage zone, which are affected by two periods of fluid. In the damage zone, not only the cataclasis-cementation system, but also the cataclasis-corrosion phenomenon can be seen. The wall rock is only affected by the first period fluid, cementation and no corrosion. The internal structure of strike-slip fault determines the difference of fluid permeability in different parts of the fault, and affects the later fluid migration and transformation. The fault structure formed by cataclasis is transformed and shaped by fluid, thus forming the present fractured-vuggy reservoir. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Clinical importance: Feline infectious peritonitis (FIP) is one of the most important infectious diseases and causes of death in cats; young cats less than 2 years of age are especially vulnerable. FIP is caused by a feline coronavirus (FCoV). It has been estimated that around 0.3% to 1.4% of feline deaths at veterinary institutions are caused by FIP. Scope: This document has been developed by a Task Force of experts in feline clinical medicine as the 2022 AAFP/EveryCat Feline Infectious Peritonitis Diagnosis Guidelines to provide veterinarians with essential information to aid their ability to recognize cats presenting with FIP. Testing and interpretation: Nearly every small animal veterinary practitioner will see cases. FIP can be challenging to diagnose owing to the lack of pathognomonic clinical signs or laboratory changes, especially when no effusion is present. A good understanding of each diagnostic test's sensitivity, specificity, predictive value, likelihood ratio and diagnostic accuracy is important when building a case for FIP. Before proceeding with any diagnostic test or commercial laboratory profile, the clinician should be able to answer the questions of 'why this test?' and 'what do the results mean?' Ultimately, the approach to diagnosing FIP must be tailored to the specific presentation of the individual cat. Relevance: Given that the disease is fatal when untreated, the ability to obtain a correct diagnosis is critical. The clinician must consider the individual patient's history, signalment and comprehensive physical examination findings when selecting diagnostic tests and sample types in order to build the index of suspicion 'brick by brick'. Research has demonstrated efficacy of new antivirals in FIP treatment, but these products are not legally available in many countries at this time. Vancomycin is widely used in neonatal sepsis but proportion of newborn reaching recommended concentration is variable. Fluid status impact on vancomycin level remains understudied. We aimed to study fluid factors impacting vancomycin concentration at 24 h of treatment. We performed a prospective and retrospective observational monocentric study of NICU patients requiring a vancomycin treatment. We used a continuous infusion protocol, with age-appropriate loading and maintenance doses. Vancomycin target serum concentration after 24 h (C24h) was above 20 mg/L. Demographic, infections, and organ failure variables were analyzed as potential predictors of C24h. Over the study period, 70 infective episodes in 52 patients were included. At treatment initiation, the median post-natal age was 12.5 days (IQR 7-23), post menstrual age 30 weeks (IQR 28-35), and median weight 1140 g (IQR 835-1722). Germs isolated were mainly gram-positive with 73.5% being coagulase-negative Staphylococci. Median C24h was 18.7 mg/L (IQR 15.4-22.4). Overall, 41 (58.6%) treatments had a C24h < 20 mg/L. After multivariate analysis, higher creatinine level (OR 1.03 (95% CI 1.002-1.06)) was associated with C24h ≥ 20 mg/L; weight gain the day before infection (OR 0.21 (95% CI 0.05-0.79)) and positive biomarkers of inflammation (OR 0.22 (0.05-0.94)) were associated with C24h < 20 mg/L.Conclusion: Vancomycin C24h was underdosed in 60% of patients and factors linked to changes in vancomycin pharmacokinetic such as volume of distribution and clearance, linked to creatinine level, inflammation, or weight gain, were identified.What Is Known: • Adjustment of vancomycin regimen remains difficult due to inter- and intra-individual variability of vancomycin pharmacokinetics. • Impact of fluid status on vancomycin concentration in critically ill neonates is incompletely studied.What Is New: • Proportion of patients with adequate vancomycin concentration using a target adapted to nosocomial gram-positive bacteria MIC is low. • We confirmed the role of creatinine level and report two new factors associated with low vancomycin concentration: presence of systemic inflammation and weight gain. The turbulence jet centerline velocity and temperature decay intensely along the centerline flow direction. Thus, improving it could benefit engineering applications, such as air conditioners. However, active flow control techniques with high-aspect-ratio jets, especially for controlling the temperature, have not been widely investigated. This paper presents the velocity and temperature performance of a high-aspect-ratio rectangular jet controlled by two dielectric barrier discharge plasma actuators located on the longer sides of the nozzle and controlled by high-voltage and high-frequency pulse-width modulation sinusoidal waves. The scanning method was used to cover 362 cases as combinations of working parameters (modular frequency vs. duty vs. phase difference) for the velocity and temperature performances of the jets. Results show that plasma actuators can control both velocity and temperature distribution with minor input power compared with the rectangular jet's kinetic energy and heat flux. The velocity increased up to 4% and decreased to 11%, measured at the interest position where x / h = 70 on the centerline. There were a 5% increase and a 4% decrease compared to the temperature-based case. Distinctive velocity and temperature distributions were observed under noteworthy cases, indicating the potential of the actuator to create various flow features without installing new hardware on the flow. Initial experiments in the design process of a novel 3D printed conformal propellant tank for small satellites are conducted. Contact angle measurements of static colored water droplets on printed PLA, PMMA, and PETG sample plates are performed. Additionally, the optical characteristics of transparent printed tanks of two to five millimeter wall thickness and with three illumination setups are evaluated. The results indicate that the influence of fluorescein as a colorant in the useful concentration only slightly affects the contact angle measurements. The combination of well scattered UV light and use the smallest possible wall thicknesses, on the order of two millimeters, made out of PLA provides the best visibility. This study examined sweat rate, sweat sodium concentration [Na+], and ad-libitum carbohydrate and fluid intakes in elite female soccer players during training (n = 19) and a match (n = 8); eight completed both for comparisons. Body mass (kg) was obtained before and after exercise to calculate sweat rate. The sweat [Na+] was determined from absorbent patches on the thigh or back. Sweat rate, percentage body mass change, and sweat [Na+] for 19 players during training were 0.47 ± 0.19 L·h−1, +0.19 ± 0.65%, and 28 ± 10 mmol·L−1, respectively. Sweat rate was higher during a match (0.98 ± 0.34 L·h−1) versus training (0.49 ± 0.26 L·h−1, p = 0.007). Body mass losses were greater post-match (−1.12 ± 0.86%) than training (+0.29 ± 0.34%, p = 0.003). Sweat [Na+] was similar for training (29 ± 9 mmol·L−1) and a match (35 ± 9 mmol·L−1) (p = 0.215). There were no differences in match versus training carbohydrate intakes (2.0 ± 2.3 g·h−1, 0.9 ± 1.5 g·h−1, respectively, p = 0.219) or fluid intakes (0.71 ± 0.30 L·h−1, 0.53 ± 0.21 L·h−1, respectively, p = 0.114). In conclusion, female soccer players' sweat rates were higher during a match than during training, and carbohydrate intakes were below recommendations for matches and training. Bilothorax, the accumulation of bile in the pleural space, is an uncommon but serious condition often linked to biliary tract or diaphragmatic injury. This case report describes a 70-year-old female with decompensated liver cirrhosis due to primary sclerosing cholangitis, who developed a moderate sized pleural effusion following ERCP and biliary stenting. The patient's pleural effusion persisted for 2 months without respiratory symptoms, indicating a self-limited low-volume leak. She eventually underwent thoracentesis for a non-resolving unilateral effusion, which drained 435 mL of bilious fluid with an elevated pleural fluid bilirubin level, confirming the diagnosis of bilothorax. This case highlights the importance of considering bilothorax as a cause of pleural effusion in patients with biliary tract disease and who undergo high risk procedures including ERCP., Competing Interests: None declared., (© 2024 The Author(s). Objectives: To compare the accuracy of transvaginal ultrasound (TVUS) with laparoscopy in detecting and characterizing uterosacral ligament (USL) nodules of deep infiltrative endometriosis (DIE) between patients with and without pouch of Douglas (POD) fluid., Methods: This prospective study was conducted between June 2021 and July 2023. We included patients from the Second People's Hospital of Shenzhen with two TVUS tests: no POD fluid on the first TVUS test and POD fluid on the second TVUS test. POD fluid was obtained in two ways: naturally occurring fluid during the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle and SonoPODography. Laparoscopic results are the gold standard. To compare the diagnostic performance of TVUS in the diagnosis of DIE on USLs with and without POD fluid., Results: We included 42 patients with a mean age of 36.4 ± 5.4 years. The maximum length diameter for DIE nodules on USLs with and without POD fluid was 13.3 ± 3.3 mm and 10.2 ± 2.5 mm (P < .001), respectively, while the depth of infiltration was 8.1 ± 2.4 mm and 6.1 ± 1.4 mm (P < .001), respectively. When compared to laparoscopic findings, TVUS findings with and without POD fluid resulted in a sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value, negative predictive value area under the curve, and Cohen kappa of 92.3%, 93.8%, 92.9%, 96.0%, 88.2%, 0.930, and 0.850 and 61.5%, 93.8%, 73.8%, 94.1%, 50.0%, 0.766, and 0.499, respectively. Laparoscopy showed USL involvement in up to 59.5% of patients. With or without fluid, the most common ultrasound features of DIE lesions were USL thickening, irregular morphology, clear boundaries, low echo, and no blood flow signal., Conclusions: For patients with clinical suspicion of DIE, TVUS with POD fluid has a higher accuracy for diagnosing USL DIE than TVUS without POD fluid., (© 2024 American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.)

Background: Paediatric kidney transplantation has an increased risk of surgical and vascular complications, with intensive care monitoring required postoperatively. This study aimed to determine if perioperative management affects early graft function in living donor paediatric kidney transplantation., Methods: Clinical data was extracted from the electronic medical record for living donor kidney transplants at two paediatric centres covering the state of New South Wales (NSW), Australia from 2009 to 2021. Estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) of 7 days and 1-month post-transplant were calculated as measures of early graft function., Results: Thirty-nine eligible patients (female n (%) 13 (33%)) with a median (IQR) age of 6 (3-9) years and pre-transplant eGFR of 7 (6-10) mL/min/1.73 m 2 were analysed. Mean (SD) central venous pressure (CVP) after revascularisation was 11 (4) mmHg. Intraoperatively, mean volume of fluid administered was 84 (39) mL/kg, and 34 (87%) patients received vasoactive agents. Average systolic blood pressure (BP) in the first 24-h post-transplant was 117 (12) mmHg. Postoperatively, median volume of fluid administered in the first 24 h was 224 (159-313) mL/kg, and 17 (44%) patients received vasoactive agents. Median eGFR 7 days and 1-month post-transplant were 115 (79-148) and 103 (83-115) mL/min/1.73 m 2 , respectively. Linear regression analyses demonstrated that after adjusting for age, the average CVP after revascularisation and average systolic BP in the first 24-h post-transplant were not associated with eGFR in the first month post-transplant., Conclusions: Targeted intraoperative and postoperative fluid and haemodynamic characteristics were achieved but did not correlate with early graft function., (© 2024. Background: Fluid therapy with normal saline (NS) in diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) can cause hyperchloremic acidosis and delay DKA resolution. Balanced crystalloids may address this concern, though results with Ringer lactate and Plasma-Lyte have been mixed., Aim: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of Sterofundin (SF) vs. NS in the management of DKA., Methods: A prospective, intervention trial with historical controls was conducted at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, India. Patients aged 13 years or older with DKA were enrolled. The primary outcome was the time taken to DKA resolution, with a predefined superiority margin of a one-fourth reduction in resolution time. Secondary outcomes included total intravenous fluid and short-acting regular insulin requirements, the need for 0.45% saline, hospital stay duration, and in-hospital mortality., Results: A total of 150 patients (mean age 36.8 years, 56.7% males) were included, with 75 receiving SF (intervention group) and 75 receiving NS (historical control group). The SF group showed a significantly shorter mean time to DKA resolution (13.8 ± 6.0 hours) compared to the NS group (18.1 ± 5.5 hours; P < 0.001). SF patients required less total intravenous fluid (4500 mL vs. 6000 mL; P = 0.004), less insulin (98 units vs. 112 units; P = 0.017), and had a lower need for 0.45% saline (8% vs. 74.3%; P < 0.001). Patients receiving SF had shorter hospital stays (4 [IQR 3-5] days vs. 4 [IQR 4-6] days; P = 0.020). Abstract Background The end-expiratory occlusion (EEXPO) test detects preload responsiveness, but it is 15 s long and induces small changes in cardiac index (CI). It is doubtful whether the Starling bioreactance device, which averages CI over 24 s and refreshes the displayed value every 4 s (Starling-24.4), can detect the EEXPO-induced changes in CI (ΔCI). Our primary goal was to test whether this Starling device version detects preload responsiveness through EEXPO. We also tested whether shortening the averaging and refresh times to 8 s and one second, respectively, (Starling-8.1) improves the accuracy of the device in detecting preload responsiveness using EEXPO. Methods In 42 mechanically ventilated patients, during a 15-s EEXPO, we measured ∆CI through calibrated pulse contour analysis (CIpulse, PiCCO2 device) and using the Starling device. For the latter, we considered both CIStarling-24.4 from the commercial version and CIStarling-8.1 derived from the raw data. For relative ∆CIStarling-24.4 and ∆CIStarling-8.1 during EEXPO, we calculated the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) to detect preload responsiveness, defined as an increase in CIpulse ≥ 10% during passive leg raising (PLR). For both methods, the correlation coefficient vs. ∆CIpulse was calculated. Results Twenty-six patients were preload responders and sixteen non preload-responders. The AUROC for ∆CIStarling-24.4 was significantly lower compared to ∆CIStarling-8.1 (0.680 ± 0.086 vs. 0.899 ± 0.049, respectively; p = 0.027). A significant correlation was observed between ∆CIStarling-8.1 and ∆CIpulse (r = 0.42; p = 0.009), but not between ∆CIStarling-24.4 and ∆CIpulse. During PLR, both ∆CIStarling-24.4 and ∆CIStarling-8.1 reliably detected preload responsiveness. Conclusions Shortening the averaging and refresh times of the bioreactance signal to 8 s and one second, respectively, increases the reliability of the Starling device in detection of EEXPO-induced ∆CI. From a variety of yield stress fluid models, an elastoviscoplastic Herschel-Bulkley (EVPHB) model written in 3D is selected and coupled with a Finite Element Method with Lagrangian Integration Points (FEMLIP) to solve boundary value problems with large deformation process. By tracing the historical variables of a material point, it is verified that in a time-independent flow the elastic strain and viscous strain rate could be accurately reproduced by EVPHB model. For a time-dependent flow, because of the addition of elasticity, the EVPHB model makes the material experience a deformation process which is significantly distinctive from that produced by a pure regularized Herschel-Bulkley model. Benchmarks also show that in FEMLIP the yielded and unyielded zones could be easily defined by EVPHB model according to the stress of a material point. Lastly, it is shown that EVPHB model also induces a stress relaxation process for materials under constant strain. The suitability of FEMLIP to model elastoviscoplastic fluid is verified.

Fluid volume homeostasis in health and heart failure (HF) requires a complex interaction of 2 systems, the intravascular and interstitial‐lymphatic circulations. With the development of HF both the intravascular and interstitial compartments undergo variable degrees of volume remodeling which can include significant expansion. This reflects the impact of multiple pathophysiologic mechanisms on both fluid compartments which initially play a compensatory role to stabilize intravascular circulatory integrity but with progression in HF can evolve to produce the various manifestations of volume overload and clinical HF congestion. The intent of this review is to help enhance recognition of the pathophysiologic and clinical importance of the interlinked roles of these 2 circulatory systems in volume regulation and chronic HF. It would also be hoped that a better understanding of the interacting functions of the intravascular and interstitial‐lymphatic fluid compartments can potentially aid development of novel management strategies particularly addressing the generally undertargeted interstitial‐lymphatic system and help bring such approaches forward through a more integrated view of these 2 circulatory systems.

ObjectiveContinuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is the standard treatment for critically ill patients with acute kidney injury (AKI). Electrolyte disturbance such as hypokalemia or hypophosphatemia occurs paradoxically in patients undergoing CRRT due to high clearance. We developed a fluid management protocol for dialysate and replacement fluid that depends on serum electrolytes and focuses on potassium and phosphate levels to prevent electrolyte disturbance during CRRT. The impact of our new fluid protocol on electrolyte stability was evaluated.MethodsAdult patients who received CRRT between 2013 and 2017 were included. Patients treated 2 years before (2013–2014; pre-protocol group) and 2 years following development of the fluid protocol (2016–2017; protocol group) were compared. The primary outcomes were individual coefficient of variation (CV) and abnormal event rates of serum phosphate and potassium. Secondary outcomes were frequency of electrolyte replacement and incidence of cardiac arrhythmias. Individual CV and abnormal event rates for each electrolyte were analyzed using the Wilcoxon rank-sum test and Chi-square test with Yates’ continuity correction.ResultsA total of 1,448 patients was included. Both serum phosphate and potassium were higher in the protocol group. The CVs of serum phosphate (pre-protocol vs. protocol, 0.275 [0.207–0.358] vs. 0.229 [0.169–0.304], p < 0.01) and potassium (0.104 [0.081–0.135] vs. 0.085 [0.064–0.110], p < 0.01) were significantly lower in the protocol group. The abnormal event rates of serum phosphate (rate [95% CI], 0.410 [0.400–0.415] vs. 0.280 [0.273–0.286], p < 0.01) and potassium (0.205 [0.199–0.211] vs. 0.083 [0.079–0.087], p < 0.01) were also significantly lower in the protocol group.ConclusionThe protocolized management of fluid in CRRT effectively prevented hypophosphatemia and hypokalemia by inducing excellent stability of serum phosphate and potassium levels.

Using fluid-structure interaction algorithms to simulate the human circulatory system is an innovative approach that can provide valuable insights into cardiovascular dynamics. Fluid-structure interaction algorithms enable us to couple simulations of blood flow and mechanical responses of the blood vessels while taking into account interactions between fluid dynamics and structural behaviors of vessel walls, heart walls, or valves. In the context of the human circulatory system, these algorithms offer a more comprehensive representation by considering the complex interplay between blood flow and the elasticity of blood vessels. Algorithms that simulate fluid flow dynamics and the resulting forces exerted on vessel walls can capture phenomena such as wall deformation, arterial compliance, and the propagation of pressure waves throughout the cardiovascular system. These models enhance the understanding of vasculature properties in human anatomy. The utilization of fluid-structure interaction methods in combination with medical imaging can generate patient-specific models for individual patients to facilitate the process of devising treatment plans. This review evaluates current applications and implications of fluid-structure interaction algorithms with respect to the vasculature, while considering their potential role as a guidance tool for intervention procedures.

Aqueous fluids are regarded as the crucial origin of high conductivity and low velocity anomalies observed by magnetotelluric and seismic surveys in the middle to lower continental crust. Integration of field geophysical methods with experimental conductivity data is essential to accurately constrain the fluid fraction and salinity. Studies of fluid content and salinity in the crust from the experimental or theoretically calculated conductivity of fluid–minerals systems and saline-bearing fluid have demonstrated that crustal constituent minerals play a prominent role in the conductivity of fluid–mineral systems. We performed systematic measurements on electrical conductivity of dry and hydrous plagioclase solid solutions at high temperature and pressure. A positive dependence of electrical conductivity on Na contents is observed in dry samples, and discontinuous variation in conductivity is associated with the degree of Al/Si order–disorder. For hydrous samples, trace amounts of water considerably enhance the electrical conductivity. The dominant charge carriers in dry and hydrous plagioclase are Na ions and hydrogen, respectively, both of which migrate via the Frenkel mechanism. If there are no free fluids present in minerals, the crustal major constituent minerals containing structure water cannot account for the high-conductivity anomalies in the middle to lower crust based on our model of the rock conductivity–depth profiles in the continental crust. The calculated bulk conductivities of fluid–rock systems further suggest that at least 1 vol% of fluid with seawater salinity (3.5 wt%) is necessary in the middle to lower crust to interpret the high conductivity anomalies. The problem of unsteady rotational motion of electrically conducting viscous incompressible fluid, contained within two asxially concentric cylinders of finite length in the presence of an axial symmetric magnetic field of constant strength, has been solved exactly using finite Hankel transform in combination with a technique presented in this paper. This paper presents a complete of the problem under consideration, which has been of interest for many years; moreover the Pneuman-Lykoudis solution in Magnetohydrodynamics and Childyat solution in hydrodynamics appears as a special case of this study. Microwave is a form of electromagnetic radiation that has high penetration and heating efficiency in food processing. Uneven heating is the main problem of microwave processing, especially in solid foods. Fluid and semifluid media, which are good carriers in microwave processing, have uniform dielectric properties and good material fluidity. Herein, we review the development, application prospects, and limitations of microwave in fluid and semifluid food processing and the research progress in microwave heating with steam as carrier. The mixture of generated steam and tiny micro droplets from food material under the action of microwave can absorb microwave and transfer heat evenly, which effectively improves the uniformity of microwave heating. Due to the relatively uniform dielectric properties and consistent texture of fluid and semifluid food materials, uneven heating phenomenon during their microwave processing can be significantly inhibited. Based on the development of microwave heating technology and equipment design, the microbial inactivation and enzyme inhibition in fluid and semifluid food were improved and food product with better retention of nutrients and sensory profile were produced. Also, microwave radiation can be used to prepare the printing material or process the printed product for 3D food printing, which enhances the added value of 3D printed products and the personalization of food manufacturing. In future research, intelligent control technology can be applied in the microwave processing of fluid and semifluid food materials for various applications. Background: The growing prevalence of depression has become a major public health problem. There is limited evidence regarding the relationship between dietary behaviors and depression. The present study was designed to evaluate the association between dietary behaviors and depression score.Methods: A total of 933 Iranian adolescent girls aged 12 to 18 years were included in this cross-sectional study. Depression severity score was assessed using a validated Persian version of Beck's depression inventory. Dietary behaviors were pre-defined and assessed in ten domains using a standard questionnaire. To investigate the association between dietary behaviors and depression score, the linear regression analysis in crude and adjusted models was used.Results: 67.7% of participants had no or minimal depression symptoms and 32.3% of participants were categorized with mild-to-severe depression symptoms. There were significant inverse relationships between main meal consumption (Beta: -0.141; 95% CI: - 3.644 to - 1.000; P = 0.001), snack consumption (Beta: -0.100; 95% CI: - 2.400 to - 0.317; P = 0.002), regular meal consumption (Beta: 0.23; 95% CI: 0.13-0.42; P = 0.001) and food chewing (Beta: -0.152; 95% CI: - 2.279 to - 0.753; P = 0.03) with depression score. These associations remained significant after adjustment for confounding variables. In addition, frequency of intra-meal fluid intake (Beta: 0.096; 95% CI: 0.288 to 1.535; P = 0.004) and spicy foods consumption (Beta: 0.076; 95% CI: 0.098 to 1.508; P = 0.02) were directly associated with depression score in the crude model. These significant relations were disappeared in full adjusted model. No significant association was found between breakfast consumption, intake of fried foods, chewing ability, and tooth loss with depression score (P > 0.05).Conclusions: Significant associations were observed between specific eating behaviors with depression score. This study combines field structural analysis with thin‐section petrography, U‐Pb dating, and strontium, carbon and oxygen isotopic analysis of calcite fracture fills to constrain the evolution of the 2‐5 km scale paleofluid system around the faulted, plunging fold nose comprising the southern termination of the Gypsum Valley salt wall in the Paradox Basin, U.S.A. Brittle deformation in this region began with the formation of a down‐to‐the‐northeast, counter‐regional fault and then progressed into jointing and faulting in a radial pattern, followed by jointing in a concentric pattern. Coupled with increases in fracture abundance toward the faults, multiple stages of mineralization suggest that the faults served as efficient and long‐lived conduits for vertical fluid migration. Although fracture cement textures and calcite colour are variable throughout the area, the distribution of these characteristics does not correlate with fracture orientation, relative age, stratigraphic or structural position. Irrespective of the type of calcite comprising the fracture cements, δ13C values average near −7‰ (VPDB), whereas δ18O values cluster into groups whose averages are roughly 6‰ apart, with the more negative grouping stratigraphically restricted to fracture cements in Jurassic rocks. The stratigraphic segregation of δ18O values suggests the paleofluid system contained two distinct paleofluids, a more recent one comprised of meteoric waters and an older one comprising brine that originated in Pennsylvanian strata. 87Sr/86Sr ratios in fracture‐filling calcite cements indicate that the older fluid underwent fluid‐rock interaction with Permian strata and that this evolved fluid migrated upwards along the faults until the Triassic or Jurassic. Thereafter, fluid migrating along the faults was more meteoric and appears to have migrated downward along the faults, where it interacted with Permian strata. Consistent U‐Pb dates from carbonates precipitated from the older fluid suggest this stage of the paleofluid system was active around 240 Ma. Local burial history models and published temperatures for fracture cements elsewhere in the basin suggest the younger stage of the paleofluid system occurred during the Latest Cretaceous to Oligocene. This study highlights the spatial and temporal complexity of fluid systems in the vicinity of salt structures and emphasises the need to interpret them through careful integration of high resolution stratigraphic and structural data in the context of evolving salt tectonics. Hypertension characterized by low circulating renin activity accounts for roughly 25%-30% of primary hypertension in humans and can be modeled experimentally via deoxycorticosterone acetate (DOCA)-salt treatment. In this model, phenotypes develop in progressive phases, although the timelines and relative contributions of various mechanisms to phenotype development can be distinct between laboratories. To explore interactions among environmental influences such as diet formulation and dietary sodium (Na) content on phenotype development in the DOCA-salt paradigm, we examined an array of cardiometabolic endpoints in young adult male C57BL/6J mice during sham or DOCA-salt treatments when mice were maintained on several common, commercially available laboratory rodent "chow" diets including PicoLab 5L0D (0.39% Na), Envigo 7913 (0.31% Na), Envigo 2920x (0.15% Na), or a customized version of Envigo 2920x (0.4% Na). Energy balance (weight gain, food intake, digestive efficiency, and energy efficiency), fluid and electrolyte homeostasis (fluid intake, Na intake, fecal Na content, hydration, and fluid compartmentalization), renal functions (urine production rate, glomerular filtration rate, urine Na excretion, renal expression of renin, vasopressin receptors, aquaporin-2 and relationships among markers of vasopressin release, aquaporin-2 shedding, and urine osmolality), and blood pressure, all exhibited changes that were subject to interactions between diet and DOCA-salt. Interestingly, some of these phenotypes, including blood pressure and hydration, were dependent on nonsodium dietary components, as Na-matched diets resulted in distinct phenotype development. These findings provide a broad and robust illustration of an environment × treatment interaction that impacts the use and interpretation of a common rodent model of low-renin hypertension. This result exhibits that without any critical superlinear exponent restriction on f, persistent Dirac-type singularities can be ruled out in our model. Intravenous fluids are one of the most commonly prescribed medical therapies, with widespread effects on patient outcome, morbidity and mortality. They are often poorly understood and overseen by the most junior members of the healthcare team. Better knowledge of the appropriate choice, rate and volume of fluid, alongside the consequences of any prescription can therefore have a significant impact on patient care. This article reviews some of the basic concepts underpinning the use of fluid therapy, associated physiology, clinical application and evidence base in the perioperative setting.
