Abstract

Electron drag between two two-dimensional electron gases in magnetic fields has been observed with a polarity opposite that for zero field. This negative drag requires that the electrons have a hole-like dispersion. Density dependence measurements in the integer quantum Hall regime show that drag is negative only when the upper Landau level of one layer is more than half filled while the other is less than half filled, indicating that hole-like dispersion is present in a half of each Landau level. Abstract

Electron drag measurements of electron-electron scattering rates performed close to the Fermi temperature are reported. While evidence of an enhancement due to plasmons, as was recently predicted [K. Flensberg and B. Y.-K. Hu, Phys. Rev. Lett. 73, 3572 (1994)], is found, important differences with the random-phase approximation based calculations are observed. Abstract

BACKGROUND: To evaluate whether circulating proteins are associated with survival after lung cancer diagnosis, and whether they can improve prediction of prognosis. METHODS: We measured up to 1159 proteins in blood samples from 708 participants in 6 cohorts. Samples were collected within 3 years prior to lung cancer diagnosis. We used Cox proportional hazards models to identify proteins associated with overall mortality after lung cancer diagnosis. To evaluate model performance, we used a round-robin approach in which models were fit in 5 cohorts and evaluated in the 6th cohort. Specifically, we fit a model including 5 proteins and clinical parameters and compared its performance with clinical parameters only. FINDINGS: There were 86 proteins nominally associated with mortality (p < 0.05), but only CDCP1 remained statistically significant after accounting for multiple testing (hazard ratio per standard deviation: 1.19, 95% CI: 1.10-1.30, unadjusted p = 0.00004). The external C-index for the protein-based model was 0.63 (95% CI: 0.61-0.66), compared with 0.62 (95% CI: 0.59-0.64) for the model with clinical parameters only. Inclusion of proteins did not provide a statistically significant improvement in discrimination (C-index difference: 0.015, 95% CI: -0.003 to 0.035). INTERPRETATION: Blood proteins measured within 3 years prior to lung cancer diagnosis were not strongly associated with lung cancer survival, nor did they importantly improve prediction of prognosis beyond clinical information. Abstract

Loss and/or deterioration of refuelling habitats have caused population declines in many migratory bird species but whether this results from unequal mortality among individuals varying in migration traits remains to be shown.Based on 13 years of body mass and size data of great knots (Calidris tenuirostris) at a stopover site of the Yellow Sea, combined with resightings of individuals marked at this stopover site along the East Asian-Australasian Flyway, we assessed year to year changes in annual apparent survival rates, and how apparent survival differed between migration phenotypes (i.e. migration timing and fuel stores). The measurements occurred over a period of habitat loss and/or deterioration in this flyway.We found that the annual apparent survival rates of great knots rapidly declined from 2006 to 2018, late-arriving individuals with small fuel stores exhibiting the lowest apparent survival rate. There was an advancement in mean arrival date and an increase in the mean fuel load of stopping birds over the study period.Our results suggest that late-arriving individuals with small fuel loads were selected against. Thus, habitat loss and/or deterioration at staging sites may cause changes in the composition of migratory phenotypes at the population-level.

Abstract

The water surface provides a highly effective platform for the synthesis of two-dimensional polymers (2DP). In this study, we present an efficient on-water surface synthesis of crystalline monolayer 2D polyimide (2DPI) through the imidization reaction between tetra (4-aminophenyl) porphyrin (M1) and perylenetracarboxylic dianhydride (M2), resulting in excellent stability and coverage over a large area (tens of cm2). We further fabricate innovative organic-inorganic hybrid van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) by combining with exfoliated few-layer molybdenum sulfide (MoS2). High-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) reveals face-to-face stacking between MoS2 and 2DPI within the vdWH. This stacking configuration facilitates remarkable charge transfer and noticeable n-type doping effects from monolayer 2DPI to MoS2, as corroborated by Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence measurements, and field-effect transistor (FET) characterizations. Notably, the 2DPI-MoS2 vdWH exhibits an impressive electron mobility of 50 cm2/V·s, signifying a substantial improvement over pristine MoS2 (8 cm2/V·s). This study unveils the immense potential of integrating 2D polymers to enhance semiconductor device functionality through tailored vdWHs, thereby opening up exciting new avenues for exploring unique interfacial physical phenomena.

Abstract

Currently, most reported 2D conjugated metal-organic frameworks (2D c-MOFs) are based on planar polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) with symmetrical functional groups, limiting the possibility of introducing additional substituents to fine-tune the crystallinity and electrical properties. Herein, a novel class of wavy 2D c-MOFs with highly substituted, core-twisted hexahydroxy-hexa-cata-benzocoronenes (HH-cHBCs) as ligands is reported. By tailoring the substitution of the c-HBC ligands with electron-withdrawing groups (EWGs), such as fluorine, chlorine, and bromine, it is demonstrated that the crystallinity and electrical conductivity at the molecular level can be tuned. The theoretical calculations demonstrate that F-substitution leads to a more reversible coordination bonding between HH-cHBCs and copper metal center, due to smaller atomic size and stronger electron-withdrawing effect. As a result, the achieved F-substituted 2D c-MOF exhibits superior crystallinity, comprising ribbon-like single crystals up to tens of micrometers in length. Moreover, the F-substituted 2D c-MOF displays higher electrical conductivity (two orders of magnitude) and higher charge carrier mobility (almost three times) than the Cl-substituted one. This work provides a new molecular design strategy for the development of wavy 2D c-MOFs and opens a new route for tailoring the coordination reversibility by ligand substitution toward increased crystallinity and superior electric conductivity.

Abstract

The anion-intercalation chemistries of graphite have the potential to construct batteries with promising energy and power breakthroughs. Here, we report the use of an ultrathin, positively charged two-dimensional poly(pyridinium salt) membrane (C2DP) as the graphite electrode skin to overcome the critical durability problem. Large-area C2DP enables the conformal coating on the graphite electrode, remarkably alleviating the electrolyte. Meanwhile, the dense face-on oriented single crystals with ultrathin thickness and cationic backbones allow C2DP with high anion-transport capability and selectivity. Such desirable anion-transport properties of C2DP prevent the cation/solvent co-intercalation into the graphite electrode and suppress the consequent structure collapse. An impressive PF6−-intercalation durability is demonstrated for the C2DP-covered graphite electrode, with capacity retention of 92.8% after 1000 cycles at 1 C and Coulombic efficiencies of > 99%. The feasibility of constructing artificial ion-regulating electrode skins with precisely customized two-dimensional polymers offers viable means to promote problematic battery chemistries.

Abstract

The strategic combination of redox-active triazine- or quinoxaline-based lithium-ion battery (LIB) mechanisms with the polysulfide ring-mediated lithium-sulfur battery (Li-SB) mechanism enabled the configuration of covalent organic-framework (COF)-derived lithium-organosulfide (Li-OrSB) battery systems. Two vinylene-linked frameworks were designed by enclosing polysulfide rings via postsynthetic framework sulfurization, allowing for the separate construction of triazine-polysulfide and quinoxaline-polysulfide redox couples that can readily interact with Li ions. The inverse vulcanization of the vinylene linking followed by the sulfurization-induced nucleophilic aromatic substitution reaction (SNAr) on the perfluorinated aromatic center of the COFs enabled the covalent trapping of cyclic-polysulfides. The experimentally observed reversible Li-interaction mechanism of these highly conjugated frameworks was computationally verified and supported by in situ Raman studies, demonstrating a significant reduction of polysulfide shuttle in a conventional Li-SB and opening the door for a COF-derived high-performing Li-OrSB.

Abstract

The chelating ability of quinoxaline cores and the redox activity of organosulfide bridges in layered covalent organic frameworks (COFs) offer dual active sites for reversible lithium (Li)-storage. The designed COFs combining these properties feature disulfide and polysulfide-bridged networks showcasing an intriguing Li-storage mechanism, which can be considered as a lithium–organosulfide (Li–OrS) battery. The experimental–computational elucidation of three quinoxaline COFs containing systematically enhanced sulfur atoms in sulfide bridging demonstrates fast kinetics during Li interactions with the quinoxaline core. Meanwhile, bilateral covalent bonding of sulfide bridges to the quinoxaline core enables a redox-mediated reversible cleavage of the sulfursulfur bond and the formation of covalently anchored lithium–sulfide chains or clusters during Li-interactions, accompanied by a marked reduction of Li–polysulfide (Li–PS) dissolution into the electrolyte, a frequent drawback of lithium–sulfur (Li–S) batteries. The electrochemical behavior of model compounds mimicking the sulfide linkages of the COFs and operando Raman studies on the framework structure unravels the reversibility of the profound Li-ion–organosulfide interactions. Thus, integrating redox-active organic-framework materials with covalently anchored sulfides enables a stable Li–OrS battery mechanism which shows benefits over a typical Li–S battery.

Abstract

Interfacial synthetic Cu-phthalocyanine-based two-dimensional conjugated metal-organic framework (CuPc-CuO4 2D c-MOF) films were transferred to graphite electrodes and analyzed via electrochemical resonance Raman spectroscopy. Comparison of CuPc-CuO4 with the corresponding monomer, combined with Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations allowed a detailed assignment of the vibrational bands. CuPc-CuO4 films attached to graphite electrodes via an Nickel-Nitrilo Triaacetic Acid (Ni-NTA) linker exhibited excellent bifunctional catalytic activity towards oxygen reduction (ORR) and oxygen evolution (OER) reaction. Potential dependent Raman spectroscopy yielded three different species in the respective potential window that could be assigned to an ORR active CuI/CuI state, an inactive CuII/CuI state and an CuII/CuII state that could be activated for OER. From the spectroelectrochemical data, the redox potentials of Cu in the CuPc moieties and the Cu-catecholate nodes could be determined to be ECuPc = -0.04 V and ECuO4 = 0.33 V vs. Ag|AgCl, respectively. Furthermore, DFT calculations of bandagps and density of states showed the smalest bandgap and highest -conjugation for the CuI/CuI state and the largest bandgap and lower conjugation for the mixed CuII/CuI state state, agreeing very well with the experimental activity of the species. Our results suggest that the coupling between metal oxidation changes and long range electron transfer of the 2D c-MOF is a key parameter to achieve the high electrocatalytic activity.

The pendulum wave apparatus exhibits cyclic pendulum patterns, including wave-like motion and pendulums alignments. This work presents a complete analytical solution to the times and numbers of pendulum alignment, which is shown to be a subset of Thomae's function. Based on the properties of this function and basic number theory, a comprehensive analysis of pendulum patterns is presented.

278. Towards Key Principles for the Design and Implementation of Nature Prescription Programs

Abstract

The health benefits of nature are well recognised. However, nature prescriptions (nature-based health interventions) are not routine in many health systems. We interviewed health stakeholders (n = 13) who prescribe and provide nature prescriptions, to identify enablers and barriers surrounding nature prescriptions in Australia. Participants emphasised the importance of collaboration between health disciplines, community, government and industry sectors, alongside appropriate infrastructure. Patient-centred, accessible care supporting behavioural change and social wellbeing was enabling. Participants identified a need for increased awareness, accessible local resources and responsiveness regarding climate change. The findings reveal key considerations to inform effective implementation of nature prescribing for enhanced community health.

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: "Nature prescriptions" are increasingly being adopted by health sectors as an adjunct to standard care to attend to health and social needs. We investigated levels of need and interest in nature prescriptions in adults with cardiovascular diseases, psychological distress and concomitants (e.g. physical inactivity, sedentary behaviour, obesity, loneliness, burn-out). METHODS: A nationally-representative survey of 3,319 adults across all states and territories of Australia was completed in February 2021 (response 84.0%). Participants were classified across 15 target groups using validated health indicators and surveyed on (1) time and frequency of visits to green and blue spaces (nature spaces), (2) interest in a nature prescription, and (3) potential confounders (e.g. age, income). Analyses were done using weighted logistic regressions. RESULTS: The sample was 50.5% female, 52.0% were aged ≥45 years, 15.2% were living alone and 19.3% were born overseas in non-English-speaking countries. Two-thirds of the sample spent 2 hours or more a week in nature, but these levels were generally lower in target groups (e.g. 57.7% in adults with type 2 diabetes). Most participants (81.9%) were interested in a nature prescription, even among those spending fewer than 2 hours a week in nature (76.4%). For example, 2 hours a week or more in nature was lowest among sedentary adults (36.9%) yet interest in nature prescriptions in this group was still high (74.0%). Lower levels of nature contact in target groups was not explained by differences in access to or preference for local nature spaces. CONCLUSIONS: High levels of interest in nature prescriptions amid low levels of nature contact in many target health groups provides impetus for developing randomised trials of interventions that enable people to spend more time in nature. Abstract

Due to the boom of Internet of Things (IoT) in recent years, various IoT devices are connected to the Internet and communicate with each other through network protocols such as the Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP). These protocols are typically defined and described in specification documents, such as Request for Comments (RFC), which are written in natural or semi-formal languages. Since developers largely follow the specification documents when implementing web protocols, they have become the de facto protocol specifications. Therefore, it must be ensured that the descriptions in them are consistent to avoid technological issues, incompatibility, security risks, or even legal concerns. In this work, we propose Neural RFC Knowledge Graph (NRFCKG), a neural network-generated knowledge graph based contradictions detection tool for IoT protocol specification documents. Our approach can automatically parse the specification documents and construct knowledge graphs from them through entity extraction, relation extraction, and rule extraction with large language models. It then conducts an intra-entity and inter-entity contradiction detection over the generated knowledge graph. We implement NRFCKG and apply it to the most extensively used messaging protocols in IoT, including the main RFC (RFC7252) of CoAP, the specification document of MQTT, and the specification document of AMQP. Our evaluation shows that NRFCKG generalizes well to other specification documents and it manages to detect contradictions from these IoT protocol specification documents.

Abstract

Accurate delineation of plant cell organelles from electron microscope images is essential for understanding subcellular behaviour and function. Here we develop a deep-learning pipeline, called the organelle segmentation network (OrgSegNet), for pixel-wise segmentation to identify chloroplasts, mitochondria, nuclei and vacuoles. OrgSegNet was evaluated on a large manually annotated dataset collected from 19 plant species and achieved state-of-the-art segmentation performance. We defined three digital traits (shape complexity, electron density and cross-sectional area) to track the quantitative features of individual organelles in 2D images and released an open-source web tool called Plantorganelle Hunter for quantitatively profiling subcellular morphology. In addition, the automatic segmentation method was successfully applied to a serial-sectioning scanning microscope technique to create a 3D cell model that offers unique views of the morphology and distribution of these organelles. The functionalities of Plantorganelle Hunter can be easily operated, which will increase efficiency and productivity for the plant science community, and enhance understanding of subcellular biology.

282. Interfacial Coordination Bonding-Assisted Redox Mechanism-Driven Highly Selective Precious Metal Recovery on Covalent-Functionalized Ultrathin 1T-MoS2.

Abstract

Rational design of functional material interfaces with well-defined physico-chemical-driven forces is crucial for achieving highly efficient interfacial chemical reaction dynamics for resource recovery. Herein, via an interfacial structure engineering strategy, precious metal (PM) coordination-active pyridine groups have been successfully covalently integrated into ultrathin 1T-MoS2 (Py-MoS2). The constructed Py-MoS2 shows highly selective interfacial coordination bonding-assisted redox (ICBAR) functionality toward PM recycling. Py-MoS2 shows state-of-the-art high recovery selectivity toward Au3+ and Pd4+ within 13 metal cation mixture solutions. The related recycling capacity reaches up to 3343.00 and 2330.74 mg/g for Au3+ and Pd4+, respectively. More importantly, above 90% recovery efficiencies have been achieved in representative PMs containing electronic solid waste leachate, such as computer processing units (CPU) and spent catalysts. The ICBAR mechanism developed here paves the way for interface engineering of the well-documented functional materials toward highly efficient PM recovery.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes, particularly type 1 diabetes, at younger ages can be a largely preventable cause of death with the correct health care and services. We aimed to evaluate diabetes mortality and trends at ages younger than 25 years globally using data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study (GBD) 2019. Methods: We used estimates of GBD 2019 to calculate international diabetes mortality at ages younger than 25 years in 1990 and 2019. Data sources for causes of death were obtained from vital registration systems, verbal autopsies, and other surveillance systems for 1990–2019. We estimated death rates for each location using the GBD Cause of Death Ensemble model. We analysed the association of age-standardised death rates per 100 000 population with the Socio-demographic Index (SDI) and a measure of universal health coverage (UHC) and described the variability within SDI quintiles. We present estimates with their 95% uncertainty intervals. Findings: In 2019, 16 300 (95% uncertainty interval 14 200 to 18 900) global deaths due to diabetes (type 1 and 2 combined) occurred in people younger than 25 years and 73·7% (68·3 to 77·4) were classified as due to type 1 diabetes. The age-standardised death rate was 0·50 (0·44 to 0·58) per 100 000 population, and 15 900 (97·5%) of these deaths occurred in low to high-middle SDI countries. The rate was 0·13 (0·12 to 0·14) per 100 000 population in the high SDI quintile, 0·60 (0·51 to 0·70) per 100 000 population in the low-middle SDI quintile, and 0·71 (0·60 to 0·86) per 100 000 population in the low SDI quintile. Within SDI quintiles, we observed large variability in rates across countries, in part explained by the extent of UHC (r2=0·62). From 1990 to 2019, age-standardised death rates decreased globally by 17·0% (−28·4 to −2·9) for all diabetes, and by 21·0% (–33·0 to −5·9) when considering only type 1 diabetes. Abstract

An E-band (60–90 GHz) multi-channel Doppler backscattering (DBS) system with X-mode polarization has been installed on the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST), which can measure the turbulence at five different radial locations simultaneously. This system can launch 31 fixed microwave frequencies in the range of 60–90 GHz with a 1 GHz interval into the plasma, and five probing signals are selected by employing a reference signal and multiple filters. During experiments, the frequency of the reference signal is tunable in the E-band, and the selected probing signals can be changed as needed without any other adjustments, which can be performed in one shot or between shots. Furthermore, the incident angle can be adjusted from −10° to 20°, and the wavenumber range is 4–25 cm−1 with a wavenumber resolution of Δk/k ≤ 0.35. Ray tracing simulations are employed to calculate the scattering locations and the perpendicular wavenumber. Abstract

Geometrically frustrated kagome lattices are raising as novel platforms to engineer correlated topological electron flat bands that are prominent to electronic instabilities. Here, we demonstrate a phonon softening at the kz = π plane in ScV6Sn6. The low energy longitudinal phonon collapses at ~98 K and q = 1 3 1 3 1 2 due to the electron-phonon interaction, without the emergence of long-range charge order which sets in at a different propagation vector qCDW = 1 3 1 3 1 3 . Theoretical calculations corroborate the experimental finding to indicate that the leading instability is located at 1 3 1 3 1 2 of a rather flat mode. We relate the phonon renormalization to the orbital-resolved susceptibility of the trigonal Sn atoms and explain the approximately flat phonon dispersion. Our data report the first example of the collapse of a kagome bosonic mode and promote the 166 compounds of kagomes as primary candidates to explore correlated flat phonon-topological flat electron physics. The recently discovered charge density wave in ScV6Sn6 kagome metal is under intense debate. By using a combination of experimental and theoretical techniques, the authors point to the role of flat phonon mode softening and momentum-dependent electron-phonon coupling in the formation of the charge density wave. Abstract

Spurred by the world's attention to pollution emissions from commercial aeroengines, the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has made more stringent emission regulations for civil aircraft engines, especially the NOx emission. This paper develops a Five-Point lean direct injection (LDI) combustor with three swirler schemes to reduce the emissions of commercial aircraft engines. The flowfield of the combustor is studied numerically. Moreover, the combustion efficiency and gaseous emissions in different inlet conditions and fuel ratios of the main stage (α) are studied experimentally. The corresponding results reveal that, under a fuel-air ratio (FAR) between 0.0130 and 0.0283 and an a value between 30% and 60%, the combustion efficiency is 99.18%, 98.83%, and 99.03% when the pilot stage works alone, and 99.69%, 99.23%, and 99.75% when the pilot and main stage work simultaneously. Furthermore, the experimental results suggest that the NOx emission decreases as α increases, demonstrating that the convergent swirler has a tremendous advantage in reducing NOx emissions over Venturi. Abstract

An international, multiple-code benchmark test (BMT) study is being conducted within the international DECOVALEX project to analyse coupled thermal, hydrological, mechanical and chemical (THMC) processes in the excavation disturbed zone (EDZ) around emplacement drifts of a nuclear waste repository. This BMT focuses on mechanical responses and long-term chemo-mechanical effects that may lead to changes in mechanical and hydrological properties in the EDZ. This includes time-de-pendent processes such as creep, and subcritical crack, or healing of fractures that might cause "weakening" or "hardening" of the rock over the long term. Five research teams are studying this BMT using a wide range of model approaches, including boundary element, finite element, and finite difference, particle mechanics, and elasto-plastic cellular automata methods. This paper describes the definition of the problem and preliminary simulation results for the initial model inception part, in which time dependent effects are not yet included.

However, precisely embedding the uniform nanopores into graphene nanoribbons (GNRs) at the atomic level remains underdeveloped especially for in-solution synthesis due to the lack of efficient synthetic strategies. Herein we report the first case of solution-synthesized porous GNR (pGNR) with a fully conjugated backbone via the efficient Scholl reaction of tailor-made polyphenylene precursor (P1) bearing pre-installed hexagonal nanopores. The resultant pGNR features periodic subnanometer pores with a uniform diameter of 0.6 nm and an adjacent-pores-distance of 1.7 nm. To solidify our design strategy, two porous model compounds (1a, 1b) containing the same pore size as the shortcuts of pGNR, are successfully synthesized. The chemical structure and photophysical properties of pGNR are investigated by various spectroscopic analyses. Notably, the embedded periodic nanopores largely reduce the π-conjugation degree and alleviate the inter-ribbon π-π interactions, compared to the nonporous GNRs with similar widths, affording pGNR with a notably enlarged bandgap and enhanced liquid-phase processability.

297. Piezo-Phototronic In2Se3 Nanosheets as a Material Platform for Printable Electronics toward Multifunctional Sensing Applications

Abstract

A facile, ultralow-cost, and up-scalable printable manufacturing process of flexible, multifunctional sensors that respond to more than one external stimulus could have a pivotal role in low-cost wearables and portable systems for Industry 4.0. Herein, using a low capex, in-house spray coating system, the fabrication of a low-cost photodetector that is tuneable by mechanical strain exploiting the piezo-phototronic nature of defect-free 2D In2Se3 nanosheets is reported. Moreover, force sensors that respond to different levels of applied force are spray-coated by using In2Se3 nanosheets. Regarding the photodetector, a nonmonotonic and asymmetric effect of strain on photocurrent response is shown exhibiting a local maximum at the 23°–32° compressive angle range and a slight hysteresis. Forward compressive bending leads to a photocurrent enhancement by 27% at 32° and reverse by 31% at 23°, while tensile strain leads to a current suppression by 8–10% at 23°–32° angle. The resulting force sensor repeatably demonstrates discrete piezoelectric voltages in the millivolt scale upon different mass loads, opening the path for force and tactile sensing applications. Applying industrially compatible materials for the underlying flexible substrate and electrodes, combined with spray coating, removes manufacturing complexities that engage costly and energy intensive fabrication.

Abstract

Two-dimensional van der Waals heterostructures (2D vdWHs) have recently gained widespread attention because of their abundant and exotic properties, which open up many new possibilities for next-generation nanoelectronics. However, practical applications remain challenging due to the lack of high-throughput techniques for fabricating high-quality vdWHs. Here, we demonstrate a general electrochemical strategy to prepare solution-processable high-quality vdWHs, in which electrostatic forces drive the stacking of electrochemically exfoliated individual assemblies with intact structures and clean interfaces into vdWHs with strong interlayer interactions. Thanks to the excellent combination of strong light absorption, interfacial charge transfer, and decent charge transport properties in individual layers, thin-film photodetectors based on graphene/In2Se3 vdWHs exhibit great promise for near-infrared (NIR) photodetection, owing to a high responsivity (267 mA W−1), fast rise (72 ms) and decay (426 ms) times under NIR illumination. This approach enables various hybrid systems, including graphene/In2Se3, graphene/MoS2 and graphene/MoSe2 vdWHs, providing a broad avenue for exploring emerging electronic, photonic, and exotic quantum phenomena.

Abstract

Up to one million antiprotons from a single LEAR spill have been captured in a large Penning trap. Surprisingly, when the antiprotons are cooled to energies significantly below 1 eV, the annihilation rate falls below background. Thus, very long storage times for antiprotons have been demonstrated in the trap, even at the compromised vacuum conditions imposed by the experimental set up.
