Abstract Certain microalgal species can grow under high CO2 concentrations providing potential for mitigating CO2 pollution in flue gas produced by power plants. Microalga Scenedesmus obliquus strain HTB1 was isolated from the Chesapeake Bay and grow rapidly in a high level of CO2. However, little is known about the molecular responses of HTB1 to high CO2 levels. Here, we investigated how HTB1 responds to 10% CO2 using the time‐resolved transcriptome analysis. Gene expression profiles indicated that HTB1 responds quickly (in 2 h) and becomes adaptive within 12 h when exposed to 10% CO2. Interestingly, certain genes of light‐harvesting, chlorophyll synthesis and carbon fixation (i.e. rbcS) were up‐regulated at 10% CO2, and these functional responses are consistent with the increased photosynthesis efficiency and algal biomass under 10% CO2. Nitrate assimilation was strongly enhanced, with amino acid biosynthesis and aminoacyl tRNA biosynthesis genes being markedly up‐regulated, indicating that HTB1 actively takes up nitrogen and accelerates protein synthesis at 10% CO2. Carbon metabolism including fatty acid biosynthesis and TCA cycle was enhanced at 10% CO2, supporting the earlier observation of increased lipid content of Scenedesmus sp. under high CO2 levels. Interestingly, key genes like RuBisCO (rbcL) and carbonic anhydrase in carboxysomes did not respond actively to 10% CO2, implying that exposure to 10% CO2 has little impact on the carbon concentrating mechanisms and CO2 fixation of the Calvin cycle. It appears that HTB1 can grow rapidly at 10% CO2 without significant metabolic changes in carbon fixation and ATP synthesis.

Three kinds of recycled aggregate concretes (RACs), with six different replacement rates at four ages, are subjected to the standard cube axial compression test to study mechanical properties. Failure modes, compressive strength, stress-strain curves, peak strain, and elastic modulus of RACs are systematically analysed. In addition, three equations are proposed for RACs to describe the relationship between the compressive strength and replacement rate. Comparison between various equations of elastic modulus and test results is presented, and then three most suitable equations are established for three kinds of RACs, including necessary modifications, especially for RAC with mixed recycled aggregates.

As previously demonstrated, serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin (β-hCG) is linked to identifying early gestational abnormalities. This research was aimed at investigating the correlation between serum β-hCG levels and thyroid metabolic function in pregnant women with hyperemesis gravidarum (HG). Ninety-one pregnant women with HG were selected as the study group and divided into early pregnancy (EP), mid-pregnancy (MP), and late pregnancy (LP) groups according to their gestational weeks, while 84 normal pregnant women were selected as the control group. Venous blood was collected from pregnant women in both groups and serum β-hCG levels were measured by chemiluminescent immunoassay. The levels of free thyroxine (FT4), free triiodothyronine (FT3), thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antibody (TRAb), and thyroglobulin antibody (TgAb) were tested by chemiluminescent microparticle immunoassay. Visual analog scale (VAS) scores were utilized to assess the degree of HG. Pearson analysis was implemented to measure the correlations between serum β-hCG levels and serum FT3, FT4, TSH, TPOAb, TRAb, TgAb, as well as VAS scores and the correlations between β-hCG, FT3, FT4, TSH, TPOAb, TRAb, TgAb, as well as VAS scores and gestation period. The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was plotted to analyze the diagnostic values of thyroid hormones, thyroid-related antibodies, and β-hCG levels for HG. Versus those in the control group, β-hCG, FT3, FT4, TPOAb, TRAb, TgAb levels, and VAS scores were higher and TSH levels were lower in the study group. Versus those in the EP group, β-hCG, FT3, FT4, TPOAb, TRAb, TgAb levels, and VAS scores of pregnant women in the MP and LP groups were decreased, and TSH levels were increased. Serum β-hCG levels of pregnant women with HG were positively correlated with FT3, FT4, TPOAb, TRAb, TgAb, and VAS scores and negatively correlated with TSH levels. Serum β-hCG, FT3, FT4, TPOAb, TRAb, TgAb levels, and VAS scores of pregnant women with HG had a negative correlation with the gestation period, while TSH levels had a positive correlation with the gestation period. The ROC curve analysis showed that β-hCG and thyroid function-related indicators were of high clinical values in the diagnosis of HG. Collectively, our article suggests that serum β-hCG expression of pregnant women with HG is abnormally elevated and closely related to the degree of HG and hyperthyroidism. In addition, β-hCG and thyroid function-related indicators have certain diagnostic efficacy for HG.

Background: Reprogramming of mitochondrial energy metabolism (MEM) is an important hallmark of tumorigenesis and cancer progression. Currently, there are no studies that have examined MEM in the tumor microenvironment (TME) of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), and relevant drug targets have not yet been identified. Methods: The ESCC single-cell transcriptome sequencing dataset, GSE145370, was analyzed, using the AUCell R package to screen for MEM-related genes in high-scoring cell populations. Monocle was used to infer cell differentiation and CellChat to analyze intercellular communication networks. Finally, transcription levels of prognostic genes were analyzed using a complementary DNA microarray from 15 patients with ESCC. Results: A total of 121 MEM-related genes were differentially expressed in seven cell populations in the TME, and four high-scoring cell populations were identified. As a result, the MEM state of T cells is significantly different from that of macrophages and epithelial cells, and signaling communication between T cells and macrophages is the strongest. These findings suggest that immunosuppression is related to metabolic reprogramming. Additionally, marker genes of high-scoring cells and the top10 receptor-ligand pairs may become new targets for rebuilding immune cell metabolism. Furthermore, the 4-MEM gene risk signature had good predictive power for overall survival and drug sensitivity. MAP1LC3A, APOE, APPL1, and NDUFA are novel potential immunotherapeutic targets for remodeling the TME. Finally, teal-time quantitative PCR was used to verify APOE and MAP1LC3A expression. Conclusion: MEM heterogeneity was observed in the immunosupressive TME of ESCC. Prognostic models based on MEM-related genes are helpful for screening early treatment patient groups and realizing personalized treatment. APOE and MAP1LC3A are potential target genes for the development of anti-ESCC drugs based on MEM-related genes.

Abstract Background Lindera glauca with rich resource and fruit oil has emerged as novel source of biodiesel in China, but different germplasms show a variation for fruit oil content and FA profile. To develop L. glauca fruit oils as biodiesel, a concurrent exploration of oil content, FA composition, biodiesel yield, fuel property and prediction model construction was conducted on the fruits from 8 plus germplasms to select superior genotype for ideal biodiesel production. Another vital focus was to highlight mechanism that govern the differences in oil content and FA profile of different germplasms. The cross-accessions comparisons associated with oil-synthesized gene transcriptional level and oil accumulative amount led to the identification of potential determinants (enzymes, transporters or transcription factors) and regulatory mechanisms responsible for high-quality oil accumulation. Results To select superior germplasm and unravel regulatory mechanism of high oil production for developing L. glauca fruit oils as biodiesel, 8 plus trees (accession LG01/02/03/04/05/06/07/08) with high-yield fruits were selected to evaluate the differences in oil content, FA profile, biodiesel yield and fuel property, and to construct fuel property prediction model, revealing a variation in the levels of fruit oil (45.12–60.95%), monounsaturated FA (52.43–78.46%) and polyunsaturated FA (17.69–38.73%), and biodiesel yield (80.12–98.71%) across different accessions. Of note, LG06 had a maximum yield of oil (60.95%) and biodiesel (98.71%), and ideal proportions of C18:1 (77.89%), C18:2 (14.16%) and C18:3 (1.55%), indicating that fruit oils from accession LG06 was the most suitable for high-quality biodiesel production. To highlight molecular mechanism that govern such differences in oil content and FA composition of different accessions, the quantitative relationship between oil-synthesized gene transcription and oil accumulative amount were conducted on different accessions to identify some vital determinants (enzymes, transporters or transcription factors) with a model of carbon metabolic regulatory for high-quality oil accumulation by an integrated analysis of our recent transcriptome data and qRT-PCR detection. Our findings may present strategies for developing L. glauca fruit oils as biodiesel feedstock and engineering its oil accumulation. Conclusions This is the first report on the cross-accessions evaluations of L. glauca fruit oils to determine ideal accession for producing ideal biodiesel, and the associations of oil accumulative amount with oil-synthesized gene transcription was performed to identify some crucial determinants (enzymes, transporters or transcription factors) with metabolic regulation model established for governing high oil production. Our finding may provide molecular basis for new strategies of developing biodiesel resource and engineering oil accumulation.

[Introduction] With the development of Marine economy, more and more projects of offshore wind power transmission, offshore oil and gas platform power supply and island network power supply involve laying submarine cables. At present, the main laying protection method is direct burial laying, but the buried depth design without considering the economy is obviously unreasonable. In order to effectively protect the submarine cable and reasonably control the investment, it is necessary to determine the reasonable burial depth of the submarine cable in the project development stage. Therefore, in the absence of sufficient design input data, this paper proposes a simplified calculation method for the depth of anchor penetration, which provides a basis for determining the laying protection scheme in the early stage of the project. [Method] In this paper, the anchor penetration process was divided into three stages to establish mathematical models, and a series of boundary conditions were assumed for the anchor penetration process. On this basis, based on the energy method, we analyzed and deduced the mechanical model of the anchor movement process at each stage, and proposed a simplified calculation method of the anchor penetration depth considering the shear damage of the seabed substrate. By conducting a comparative analysis of the calculated values of the method and measured values under different situations, we explored the applicability and scope of the calculation method. [Result] The comparison between the calculated value of this simplified method and the measured result shows that this calculation method is suitable for calculating the depth of anchor penetration in the case of clay with shear strength greater than 20 kPa, and the calculation error of this method is within the acceptable range. [Conclusion] From the comparative analysis of the calculation results in this paper, it can be seen that the simplified calculation method has guiding significance for the application in engineering practice, but the method still needs to accumulate different measured data in practice for verification and fitting correction, and combine the empirical method and probabilistic method for further analyses, to provide design basis for submarine cable laying protection.

The blast furnace process is developed to produce Fe–Ni–Cr alloy (also called stainless steel master alloys) by smelting nickel laterite in China. However, how to achieve high recovery of chromium from nickel laterite become a challenge due to the limited smelting temperatures in a blast furnace. In this study, the behavior of chromium during the smelting of nickel laterite ore was thermodynamically and experimentally studied. The suitable slag composition was recommended according to the viscosity and flowing temperature of various slags. The smelting experiments indicated that when the basicity was 0.98, the distribution of Cr reaches a high level and the recovery rates of Cr, Fe, and Ni were 92.24%, 98.47%, and 98.59%, respectively. When the MgO content is about 8.37%, the good separation of iron from slag can be observed, while a small amount of metal entrapped in slag with the further increase of MgO content. The results of industrial production in a blast furnace showed that the chromium distribution ratio is a positive correlation with the slag basicity. The Cr2O3 content in slag decreases and the chromium distribution ratio increases with the increasing slag basicity.

Epigenome‐wide gene–gene (G × G) interactions associated with non‐small‐cell lung cancer (NSCLC) survival may provide insights into molecular mechanisms and therapeutic targets. Hence, we proposed a three‐step analytic strategy to identify significant and robust G × G interactions that are relevant to NSCLC survival. In the first step, among 49 billion pairs of DNA methylation probes, we identified 175 775 G × G interactions with PBonferroni ≤ 0.05 in the discovery phase of epigenomic analysis; among them, 15 534 were confirmed with P ≤ 0.05 in the validation phase. In the second step, we further performed a functional validation for these G × G interactions at the gene expression level by way of a two‐phase (discovery and validation) transcriptomic analysis, and confirmed 25 significant G × G interactions enriched in the 6p21.33 and 6p22.1 regions. In the third step, we identified two G × G interactions using the trans‐omics analysis, which had significant (P ≤ 0.05) epigenetic cis‐regulation of transcription and robust G × G interactions at both the epigenetic and transcriptional levels. These interactions were cg14391855 × cg23937960 (βinteraction = 0.018, P = 1.87 × 10−12), which mapped to RELA × HLA‐G (βinteraction = 0.218, P = 8.82 × 10−11) and cg08872738 × cg27077312 (βinteraction = −0.010, P = 1.16 × 10−11), which mapped to TUBA1B × TOMM40 (βinteraction =−0.250, P = 3.83 × 10−10). A trans‐omics mediation analysis revealed that 20.3% of epigenetic effects on NSCLC survival were significantly (P = 0.034) mediated through transcriptional expression. These statistically significant trans‐omics G × G interactions can also discriminate patients with high risk of mortality. In summary, we identified two G × G interactions at both the epigenetic and transcriptional levels, and our findings may provide potential clues for precision treatment of NSCLC.

β2-Microglobulin (β2M), a component of the major histocompatibility complex class I molecule, is associated with aging-related cognitive impairment and Alzheimer’s disease. Although upregulation of β2M is considered to be highly related to ischemic stroke, the specific role and underlying mechanistic action of β2M are poorly understood. In this study, we established a rat model of focal cerebral ischemia by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery. We found that β2M levels in the cerebral spinal fluid, serum, and brain tissue were significantly increased in the acute period but gradually decreased during the recovery period. RNA interference was used to inhibit β2M expression in the acute period of cerebral stroke. Tissue staining with 2,3,5-triphenyltetrazolium chloride and evaluation of cognitive function using the Morris water maze test demonstrated that decreased β2M expression in the ischemic penumbra reduced infarct volume and alleviated cognitive deficits, respectively. Notably, glial cell, caspase-1 (p20), and Nod-like receptor pyrin domain containing 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome activation as well as production of the inflammatory cytokines interleukin-1β, interleukin-6, and tumor necrosis factor-α were also effectively inhibited by β2M silencing. These findings suggest that β2M participates in brain injury and cognitive impairment in a rat model of ischemic stroke through activation of neuroinflammation associated with the NLRP3 inflammasome.

Emotion recognition using the electroencephalogram (EEG) has garnered significant attention within the realm of human–computer interaction due to the wealth of genuine emotional data stored in EEG signals. However, traditional emotion recognition methods are deficient in mining the connection between multi-domain features and fitting their advantages. In this paper, we propose a novel capsule Transformer network based on a multi-domain feature for EEG-based emotion recognition, referred to as MES-CTNet. The model’s core consists of a multichannel capsule neural network(CapsNet) embedded with ECA (Efficient Channel Attention) and SE (Squeeze and Excitation) blocks and a Transformer-based temporal coding layer. Firstly, a multi-domain feature map is constructed by combining the space–frequency–time characteristics of the multi-domain features as inputs to the model. Then, the local emotion features are extracted from the multi-domain feature maps by the improved CapsNet. Finally, the Transformer-based temporal coding layer is utilized to globally perceive the emotion feature information of the continuous time slices to obtain a final emotion state. The paper fully experimented on two standard datasets with different emotion labels, the DEAP and SEED datasets. On the DEAP dataset, MES-CTNet achieved an average accuracy of 98.31% in the valence dimension and 98.28% in the arousal dimension; it achieved 94.91% for the cross-session task on the SEED dataset, demonstrating superior performance compared to traditional EEG emotion recognition methods. The MES-CTNet method, utilizing a multi-domain feature map as proposed herein, offers a broader observation perspective for EEG-based emotion recognition. It significantly enhances the classification recognition rate, thereby holding considerable theoretical and practical value in the EEG emotion recognition domain.

Supervised classification algorithms for processing epileptic EEG signals rely heavily on the label information of the data, and existing supervised methods cannot effectively solve the problem of analyzing unlabeled epileptic EEG signals. In the traditional unsupervised clustering algorithm, the number of clusters and the global parameters must be predetermined, and the algorithm’s analytical results are combined with a huge number of subjective errors, which affects the detection accuracy. For this reason, this paper proposes an unsupervised multivariate feature adaptive clustering analysis algorithm based on epileptic EEG signals. First, CEEMDAN and CWT are introduced into the epileptic EEG signal after preprocessing for joint denoising to further improve the signal quality. Then, the multivariate feature set of the signal is extracted and constructed, which includes nonlinear, time, frequency, and time-frequency characteristics. To reveal the hidden structures and correlations in the high-dimensional feature data, t-SNE dimensionality reduction is introduced. Finally, the DBSCAN clustering algorithm is optimized using the SSA algorithm to achieve adaptive selection of cluster number and global parameters.It not only enhances the clustering performance and reliability of the clustering results, but also avoids subjective errors in the analysis results. It provides a pre-theoretical foundation for the successful development of future seizure prediction devices and has good application prospects in clinical diagnosis and daily monitoring of patients.

Over millions of years of evolution, arthropods have intricately developed and fine-tuned their highly sophisticated compound eye visual systems, serving as a valuable source of inspiration for human emulation and tracking. Femtosecond laser processing technology has attracted attention for its excellent precision, programmable design capabilities, and advanced three-dimensional processing characteristics, especially in the production of artificial bionic compound eye structures, showing unparalleled advantages. This comprehensive review initiates with a succinct introduction to the operational principles of biological compound eyes, providing essential context for the design of biomimetic counterparts. It subsequently offers a concise overview of crucial manufacturing methods for biomimetic compound eye structures. In addition, the application of femtosecond laser technology in the production of biomimetic compound eyes is also briefly introduced. The review concludes by highlighting the current challenges and presenting a forward-looking perspective on the future of this evolving field.

Fusarium crown rot (FCR), primarily caused by Fusarium pseudograminearum, has emerged as a new threat to wheat production and quality in North China. Genetic enhancement of wheat resistance to FCR remains the most effective approach for disease control. In this study, we phenotyped 435 Chinese wheat cultivars through FCR inoculation at the seedling stage in a greenhouse. Our findings revealed that only approximately 10.8% of the wheat germplasms displayed moderate or high resistance to FCR. A genome-wide association study (GWAS) using high-density 660K SNP led to the discovery of a novel quantitative trait locus on the long arm of chromosome 3B, designated as Qfcr.hebau-3BL. A total of 12 significantly associated SNPs were closely clustered within a 1.05 Mb physical interval. SNP-based molecular markers were developed to facilitate the practical application of Qfcr.hebau-3BL. Among the five candidate FCR resistance genes within the Qfcr.hebau-3BL, we focused on TraesCS3B02G307700, which encodes a protein kinase, due to its expression pattern. Functional validation revealed two transcripts, TaSTK1.1 and TaSTK1.2, with opposing roles in plant resistance to fungal disease. These findings provide insights into the genetic basis of FCR resistance in wheat and offer valuable resources for breeding resistant varieties.

Hydroxyapatite/polycaprolactone (HA/PCL) composites have been extensively explored in laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) for bone tissue engineering. However, conventional mechanical mixing methods for preparing composite powders often yield inhomogeneous compositions and suboptimal flowability. In this study, HA/PCL powders were prepared and optimized for L-PBF using the modified emulsion solvent evaporation method. The morphology, flowability and thermal and rheological properties of the powders were systematically investigated, along with the mechanical and biological properties of the fabricated specimens. The HA/PCL powders exhibited spherical morphologies with a homogeneous distribution of HA within the particles. The addition of small amounts of HA (5 wt% and 10 wt%) enhanced the processability and increased the maximum values of the elastic modulus and yield strength of the specimens from 129.8 MPa to 166.2 MPa and 20.2 MPa to 25.1 MPa, respectively, while also improving their biocompatibility. However, excessive addition resulted in compromised sinterability, thereby affecting both mechanical and biological properties.

In China, the water network project plays a pivotal role in optimizing water resources allocation, enhancing regional water resources carrying capacity, and bolstering high-quality economic development. This study is grounded in the spatial interconnection of water resources, serving as the foundation for constructing a spatial measurement model. Leveraging data from 558 panel samples encompassing 31 provinces (including municipalities and districts) in China between 2003 and 2020, this research unveils the inherent correlation between the establishment of the water network and economic as well as social development. The findings indicate the following: (1) Considering inputs, outputs, and nonconsensual outputs, regional disparities in the SBM (slacks-based measure) value of the water network exist, demonstrating an overall increasing trend annually. In 2020, the nationwide average benefit level of input–output in water network construction reached 0.603. (2) Moran’s I test, predicated on the weight matrix of spatial water transfer information, reveals a spatial positive autocorrelation. All tests pass the significance threshold of 5%, affirming the presence of spatial agglomeration due to project construction, operation, and the interconnectedness of water resources. (3) SDM (spatial Durbin model) regression analysis elucidates that per capita GDP, resource endowment, technological innovation level, consumption index, and average wage significantly influence the growth of water network efficiency. Specifically, per capita GDP and the consumption index exert negative influences. Moreover, aspects such as regional resource endowment, technological innovation level, industrial and agricultural water demand, average wage, and other spatial dependencies exhibit a notable positive spatial spillover effect. (4) The SDM model suggests that per capita GDP growth fails to yield a significant spatial spillover effect on neighboring regions. Instead, it highlights a substantial indirect effect and spatial dependence of government attention among regions. These analyses are instrumental in optimizing the water resources allocation network system and enhancing investment efficacy.

This work aimed to identify the chemical compounds of Cinnamomum burmannii leaf essential oil (CBLEO) and to unravel the antibacterial mechanism of CBLEO at the molecular level for developing antimicrobials. CBLEO had 37 volatile compounds with abundant borneol (28.40%) and showed good potential to control foodborne pathogens, of which Staphylococcus aureus had the greatest inhibition zone diameter (28.72 mm) with the lowest values of minimum inhibitory concentration (1.0 μg/mL) and bactericidal concentration (2.0 μg/mL). To unravel the antibacterial action of CBLEO on S. aureus, a dynamic exploration of antibacterial growth, material leakage, ROS formation, protein oxidation, cell morphology, and interaction with genome DNA was conducted on S. aureus exposed to CBLEO at different doses (1/2–2×MIC) and times (0–24 h), indicating that CBLEO acts as an inducer for ROS production and the oxidative stress of S. aureus. To highlight the antibacterial action of CBLEO on S. aureus at the molecular level, we performed a comparative association of ROS accumulation with some key virulence-related gene (sigB/agrA/sarA/icaA/cidA/rsbU) transcription, protease production, and biofilm formation in S. aureus subjected to CBLEO at different levels and times, revealing that CBLEO-induced oxidative stress caused transcript suppression of virulence regulators (RsbU and SigB) and its targeted genes, causing a protease level increase destined for the biofilm formation and growth inhibition of S. aureus, which may be a key bactericidal action. Our findings provide valuable information for studying the antibacterial mechanism of essential oil against pathogens.

The daylily (Hemerocallis citrina Baroni) flower is a traditional raw food material that is rich in a variety of nutrients. In particular, the content of polysaccharides in daylily is abundant and has been widely used as a functional component in food, cosmetics, medicine, and other industries. However, studies on the structure-effective relationship of daylily flower polysaccharides are still lacking. In view of this, daylily flower polysaccharides were isolated and purified, and their physical and chemical properties, structure, antioxidant activity, and adhesion-promoting effect on probiotics were evaluated. The results showed that a novel water-soluble polysaccharide (DPW) with an average molecular weight (Mw) of 2.224 kDa could be successfully isolated using column chromatography. Monosaccharide composition analysis showed that DPW only comprised glucose and fructose, with a molar ratio of 0.242:0.758. Through methylation and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analysis, it was inferred that DPW belonged to the fructans group with a structure of α-D-Glcp-1→2-β-D-Fruf-1→(2-β-D-Fruf-1)n→. Antioxidant analysis showed that DPW showed strong 2-Phenyl-4,4,5,5-tetramethylimidazoline-1-oxyl-3-Oxide (PTIO-scavenging activity with IC50 of 1.54 mg/mL. DPW of 1.25 to 5 mg/mL could significantly increase the adhesion rate of Lactobacillus acidophilu, Lactobacillus casei, Bifidobacterium adolescentis, and Lactobacillus plantarum on Caco-2 cells. Considering the above results, the present study provides a theoretical basis and practical support for the development and application of daylily polysaccharides as a functional active ingredient.

Lilium is a genus of important ornamental plants with many colouring pattern variations. Lilium auratum is the parent of Oriental hybrid lilies. A typical feature of L. auratum is the presence of red-orange special raised spots named papillae on the interior tepals. Unlike the usual raised spots, the papillae are slightly rounded or connected into sheets and usually have hairy tips. To elucidate the potential genes regulating papillae development in L. auratum, we performed high-throughput sequencing of its tepals at different stages. Genes involved in the flavonoid biosynthesis pathway were significantly enriched during the colouration of the papillae, and CHS, F3H, F3′H, FLS, DFR, ANS, and UFGT were significantly upregulated. To identify the key genes involved in the papillae development of L. auratum, we performed weighted gene coexpression network analysis (WGCNA) and further analysed four modules. In total, 51, 24, 1, and 6 hub genes were identified in four WGCNA modules, MEbrown, MEyellow, MEpurple, and MEred, respectively. Then, the coexpression networks were constructed, and important genes involved in trichome development and coexpressed with anthocyanin biosynthesis genes, such as TT8, TTG1, and GEM, were identified. These results indicated that the papillae are essentially trichomes that accumulate anthocyanins. Finally, we randomly selected 12 hub genes for qRT-PCR analysis to verify the accuracy of our RNA-Seq analysis. Our results provide new insights into the papillae development in L. auratum flowers.

To increase the effectiveness of using typical biomass waste as a resource, iridoids, chlorogenic acid, and flavonoids from the waste biomass of Eucommia ulmoides leaves (EULs) were extracted by deep eutectic solvents (DESs) in conjunction with macroporous resin. To optimize the extract conditions, the experiment of response surface was employed with the single-factor of DES composition molar ratio, liquid–solid ratio, water percentage, extraction temperature, and extraction time. The findings demonstrated that the theoretical simulated extraction yield of chlorogenic acid (CGA), geniposidic acid (GPA), aucubin (AU), geniposide (GP), rutin (RU), and isoquercetin (IQU) were 42.8, 137.2, 156.7, 5.4, 13.5, and 12.8 mg/g, respectively, under optimal conditions (hydrogen bond donor–hydrogen bond acceptor molar ratio of 1.96, liquid–solid ratio of 28.89 mL/g, water percentage of 38.44%, temperature of 317.36 K, and time of 55.59 min). Then, 12 resins were evaluated for their adsorption and desorption capabilities for the target components, and the HPD950 resin was found to operate at its optimum. Additionally, the HPD950 resin demonstrated significant sustainability and considerable potential in the recyclability test. Finally, the hypoglycemic in vitro, hypolipidemic in vitro, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory effects of EUL extract were evaluated, and the correlation analysis of six active components with biological activity and physicochemical characteristics of DESs by heatmap were discussed. The findings of this study can offer a theoretical foundation for the extraction of valuable components by DESs from waste biomass, as well as specific utility benefits for the creation and development of natural products.

In order to solve such as difficulties in backfilling narrow foundation trenches in engineering, it was proposed to use alkali-activated slag cement (AASC) instead of traditional Portland cement to solidify silt and form AASC fluidized solidified soil. The effect of the content of AASC and the curing period on fluidized solidified soil has been studied by unconfined compression strength test, SEM and EDS. Moreover, the root cause for the improvement of the strength by the microstructure was explored. The results showed that: The fluidity increased first and then decreased with the increase of the content of AASC; 40% was the optimal content; in the same curing period, the unconfined compression strength increased with the increase of the content; 40% was the optimal content; the soil with different contents could reach the most of the 28d strength on Day 7; AASC generated a lot of low-Ca/Si C-S-H gel that consolidated soil particles into a denser structure. These results provide a theoretical basis for the application of AASC in fluidized solidified soil engineering.

(1) Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the fermentation quality, chemical composition, aerobic stability, in vitro digestibility, and rumen degradation characteristics of silage mixtures with different ratios of sweet sorghum (SS) and aerial parts of licorice (LC). (2) Methods: Five mixtures were produced on a dry matter (DM) basis: (i) 0%SS + 100%LC (0%SS); (ii) 25%SS + 75%LC (25%SS); (iii) 50%SS + 50%LC (50%SS); (iv) 75%SS + 25%LC (75%SS); and (v) 100%SS + 0%LC (100%SS). First, the chemical composition of the silages was measured before and after fermentation. Next, the aerobic stability, dynamic microbial colonization and dynamic volatile fatty acids of the mixed silage after fermentation were determined for 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, and 25 days. Finally, the parameters related to gas production and the characteristics of the gas production were determined. At the same time, the rate of degradation of the chemical composition of the mixed silage in the rumen was studied. (3) Results: (a) As the proportion of SS increased, pH, ammonia, butyric acid, acetate, and aerobic stability showed a decreasing trend, but lactic acid content gradually increased. (b) The content of the fermentation and gas production parameters were significantly higher in 100%SS and 50%SS than others (p < 0.05). (c) The rate of degradation of DE, ME, Neg, DM, CP, ADF, NDF, and ADL of 50%SS in the rumen of sheep was significantly higher than others (p < 0.05). (4) Conclusions: In conclusion, ensiling SS and LC mixtures can improve silage quality, especially if the SS and LC are ensiled together at a ratio of 50:50.

In the rapidly evolving electric vehicle industry, the reliability of electronic systems is critical to ensuring vehicle safety and performance. Printed circuit boards (PCBs), serving as a cornerstone in these systems, necessitate efficient and accurate surface defect detection. Traditional PCB surface defect detection methods, like basic image processing and manual inspection, are inefficient and error-prone, especially for complex, minute, or irregular defects. Addressing this issue, this study introduces a technology based on the YOLOv5 network structure. By integrating the Convolutional Block Attention Module (CBAM), the model’s capability in recognizing intricate and small defects is enhanced. Further, partial convolution (PConv) replaces traditional convolution for more effective spatial feature extraction and reduced redundant computation. In the network’s final stage, multi-scale defect detection is implemented. Additionally, the normalized Wasserstein distance (NWD) loss function is introduced, considering relationships between different categories, thereby effectively solving class imbalance and multi-scale defect detection issues. Training and validation on a public PCB dataset showed the model’s superior detection accuracy and reduced false detection rate compared to traditional methods. Real-time monitoring results confirm the model’s ability to accurately detect various types and sizes of PCB surface defects, satisfying the real-time detection needs of electric vehicle production lines and providing crucial technical support for electric vehicle reliability.

Mycoplasma hominis, Ureaplasma parvum, and Ureaplasma urealyticum commonly colonize the human urogenital tract, which may cause urogenital infections. However, infection by M. hominis, U. parvum, or U. urealyticum is rarely reported in patients with peritoneal dialysis (PD)-associated peritonitis. Herein, we reported four cases of PD-associated peritonitis caused by these pathogens, along with a review of the literature.The four cases were female patients with recurrent “culture-negative” PD-associated peritonitis and were related to menstruation. M. hominis, U. parvum, or U. urealyticum was detected in the PD fluid of the patients by metagenomic next-generation sequencing. All four patients were cured by intraperitoneal tigecycline combined with oral azithromycin or minocycline.M. hominis, U. parvum, and U. urealyticum should be paid more attention in female patients with recurrent culture-negative PD-associated peritonitis, especially when the peritonitis is related to menstruation, sexual intercourse, or urogenital tract operation. Moreover, metagenomic next-generation sequencing can provide a reasonable method to identify the pathogen for culture-negative PD-associated peritonitis.

Femtosecond (Fs) laser micro-/nano-fabrication technology allows direct definition of on-demand nanostructures with three-dimensional (3D) geometric features and tailored photonic functionalities in a facile manner. In addition, such a strategy is widely applicable to various material families, including dielectrics, semiconductors, and metals. Based on diverse dielectric crystals, fs-laser direct writing of optical waveguides with flexible geometries and functional waveguide-based photonic devices have been well-developed. Beyond waveguide architectures, the combination of 3D nanofabrication of fs lasers and the multi-functionalities of dielectric crystals has also lighted up the future development of novel photonic structures with features even beyond the optical diffraction limit. In this article, promising research topics on domain engineering for nonlinear optics, color centers and waveguides for integrated quantum photonics, and surface processing for integrated photonics enabled by fs laser micro-/nano-fabrication in dielectric crystals are briefly overviewed. We highlight recent progress on these research topics and stress the importance of optical aberration correction during laser fabrication, followed by a discussion of challenges and foreseeing the future development of fs laser defined nanostructures in dielectric crystals toward multi-functional photonics.

Lily is a popular flower worldwide due to its elegant appearance and pleasant fragrance. Floral volatiles of lily are predominated by monoterpenes and benzenoids. While a number of genes for monoterpene biosynthesis have been characterized, the molecular mechanism underlying floral benzenoid formation in lily remains unclear. Here, we report on the identification and characterization of a novel BAHD acyltransferase gene that contributes to the biosynthesis of two related floral scent benzoate esters, ethyl benzoate and methyl benzoate, in the scented Lilium oriental hybrid ‘Siberia’. The emission of both methyl benzoate and ethyl benzoate in L. ‘Siberia’ was found to be tepal-specific, floral development-regulated and rhythmic. Through transcriptome profiling and bioinformatic analysis, a BAHD acyltransferase gene designated LoAAT1 was identified as the top candidate gene for the production of ethyl benzoate. In vitro enzyme assays and substrate feeding assays provide substantial evidence that LoAAT1 is responsible for the biosynthesis of ethyl benzoate. It was interesting to note that in in vitro enzyme assay, LoAAT1 can also catalyze the formation of methyl benzoate, which is typically formed by the action of benzoic acid methyltransferase (BAMT). The lack of an expressed putative BAMT gene in the flower transcriptome of L. ‘Siberia’, together with biochemical and expression evidence, led us to conclude that LoAAT1 is also responsible for, or at least contributes to, the biosynthesis of the floral scent compound methyl benzoate. This is the first report that a member of the plant BAHD acyltransferase family contributes to the production of both ethyl benzoate and methyl benzoate, presenting a new mechanism for the biosynthesis of benzoate esters.

Empoasca onukii is a major pest that attacks tea plants. To seek effective and sustainable methods to control the pest, it is necessary to assess its host preference among different species of tea and understand the critical factors behind this behavior. In this study, the behavioral preference of E. onukii for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) of three potted tea species was evaluated. The VOCs released by the three tea species were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, and the major components were used to test the pest’s preference. Transcriptome analysis was used to infer the key genes that affect the biosyntheses of the VOCs. The results showed that the tendency of E. onukii toward the VOCs of the three tea species was the strongest in green tea, followed by white tea, and the weakest in red tea. This behavioral preference was significantly and positively correlated with the relative levels of hexanol, linalool, and geraniol in tea volatiles. Relative hexanol was significantly and positively correlated with the expression of genes TEA009423 (LOX2.1), TEA009596 (LOX1.5), TEA008699 (HPL), TEA018669 (CYPADH), and TEA015686 (ADHIII). Relative linalool was significantly and positively correlated with the expression of genes TEA001435 (CAD) and Camellia_sinensis_newGene_22126 (TPS). Relative geraniol was significantly and positively correlated with the expression of genes TEA001435 (CAD), TEA002658 (CYP76B6), TEA025455 (CYP76T24), and Camellia_sinensis_newGene_22126 (TPS). The above findings suggested that three volatiles (hexanol, linalool, and geraniol) determined the behavioral preference of E. onukii toward tea plants, and their biosynthesis was mainly affected by nine genes (TEA009423, TEA009596, TEA008699, TEA018669, TEA015686, TEA001435, TEA002658, TEA025455, and Camellia_sinensis_newGene_22126).

Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) is the gold-standard classical method for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). In minimally invasive surgery, holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) is considered an alternative option. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we aimed to comprehensively evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of TURP and HoLEP the treating BPH. We comprehensively searched PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and Web of Science databases for all randomized controlled trials published before 1 December 2022 comparing HoLEP and TURP. The study protocol is registered on INPLASY (DOI: 10.37766/inplasy2023.5.0065). Compared with TURP, HoLEP required longer operation time but shorter catheter duration, hospital stay, and bladder irrigation time, as well as less postoperative irrigation. With HoLEP, maximum urinary flow rate at 12 and 24 months after surgery; post-void residual volume at 1, 6, and 12 months; and International Prostate Symptom Score at 12 months after surgery were superior to those with TURP. HoLEP was associated with significantly lower risk of hyponatremia, blood transfusion, and urethral stricture but greater risk of postoperative dysuria. Compared with TURP, HoLEP had better curative efficacy at 6, 12, and 24 months after operation and lower incidence of adverse events in patients with BPH.

Summary: The process of metabolic liver zonation is spontaneously established by assigning distributed tasks to hepatocytes along the porto-central blood flow. Hepatocytes fulfil critical metabolic functions, while also maintaining hepatocyte mass by replication when needed. Recent technological advances have enabled us to fine-tune our understanding of hepatocyte identity during homeostasis and regeneration. Subsets of hepatocytes have been identified to be more regenerative and some have even been proposed to function like stem cells, challenging the long-standing view that all hepatocytes are similarly capable of regeneration. The latest data show that hepatocyte renewal during homeostasis and regeneration after liver injury is not limited to rare hepatocytes; however, hepatocytes are not exactly the same. Herein, we review the known differences that give individual hepatocytes distinct identities, recent findings demonstrating how these distinct identities correspond to differences in hepatocyte regenerative capacity, and how the plasticity of hepatocyte identity allows for division of labour among hepatocytes. We further discuss how these distinct hepatocyte identities may play a role during liver disease.

Graphene Quantum Dots (GQDs) has garnered a significant deal of interest in environmental remediation, particularly for reducing hexavalent chromium [Cr (VI)] to trivalent chromium [Cr (III)]. This study focused on the photocatalytic process of Cr (VI) degradation using GQDs and Formic Acid (FA) under Uv-vis light. Batch experiments were conducted to observe the photocatalytic process of Cr (VI) degradation under Uv-vis light irradiation at varying concentrations of GQDs, FA, and Cr (VI) and different pH levels. The characterization of GQDs includes PL, XPS, XRD, and Raman Spectroscopy. This research revealed that combining GQDs and FA for the photocatalytic process of Cr (VI) reduction is possible. As expected, this system is more effective with lower concentrations of Cr (VI). When FA was introduced, the Cr (VI) degradation efficiency ratio increased. The GQDs/FA/Uv-vis system gave the highest degradation rate at 91.1% within 30 minutes. It was also observed that the optimum pH of the solution was 5.42, where the GQDs were quickly dissoluble. The photocatalytic reduction matched first-order reaction kinetics with a rate constant (k) of 0.1085 min−1 and R2 of 0.985. The primary radical in the degradation of Cr (VI) in the GQDs/FA/Uv-vis system was CO2•−. These findings highlight the potential of GQDs and FA as efficient catalysts for the photocatalytic reduction of Cr (VI) under Uv-vis light.

IntroductionSepsis-induced acute lung injury (SALI) is a critical illness with high mortality, and pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMECs) barrier dysfunction is a well-documented pathogenesis of SALI. The current study aimed to investigate the underlying mechanism of Reduning (RDN) in the treatment of SALI.MethodsNetwork pharmacology and molecular dynamics simulation (MDS) were used to confirm the possibility of key active components of RDN combining with AKT1. Hematoxylin-eosin staining (HE) and immunohistochemistry (IHC) were used to investigate the effect of RDN in vivo. Immunofluorescence (IF) and co-immunoprecipitation (CoIP) were used to investigate the relationship between mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and Bax in PMECs. ELISA was used to test the level of TNF-α. Flow cytometry was used to detect apoptosis. JC-1 and electron microscopy were used to evaluate mitochondrial damage. The results showed that RDN likely alleviated SALI via targeting AKT1.ResultsIn vivo, RDN could evidently decrease the expression levels of apoptosis-related proteins, alleviate mitochondrial damage, reduce lung tissue edema, down-regulate the level of TNF-α in the serum, and improve the mortality of sepsis in mice. In vitro, RDN had a significant effect on reducing the level of apoptosis-related proteins and cell apoptosis rate, while also mitigated mitochondrial damage. Furthermore, RDN could effectively lower the level of Bax in PMECs and increase the level of mTOR both in vivo and in vitro. Notably, mTOR has the ability to directly bind to Bax, and RDN can enhance this binding capability.DiscussionRDN could attenuate SALI through reducing apoptosis of PMECs, which is a promising therapeutic strategy for SALI prevention.

Diagnosis of fluids is extremely significant at high temperatures and high pressures. As an advanced imaging technique, high-energy proton radiography has great potential for application to the diagnosis of high-density fluids. In high-energy proton radiography, an angular collimator can control the proton flux and thus enable material diagnosis and reconstruction of density. In this paper, we propose a multi-material diagnostic method using angular collimators. The method is verified by reconstructing the density distribution from the proton flux obtained via theoretical calculations and numerical simulations. We simulate a 20 GeV proton imaging system using the Geant4 software toolkit and obtain the characteristic parameters of single-material objects. We design several concentric spherical objects to verify the method. We discuss its application to detonation tests. The results show that this method can determine the material and boundary information about each component of a multi-material object. Thus, it can be used to diagnose a mixed material and reconstruct densities in a detonation.

Abstract 2D transitional metal dichalcogenide (TMDC) materials have potential applications in image arrays for electronic eyes that mimick the human visual system. However, as a crucial requirement of the electronic eye, color discrimination is hard to achieve due to the broad absorption band of the TMDCs in the visible region. Here, a red‐sensitive photodetector based on the defect‐engineered WSe2‐Graphene heterostructure covered by PBDB‐T polymers is proposed. The WSe2‐Graphene heterostructure is partially modified by defects generated by the focused ion beam, forming a photovoltaic diode at the boundary of the engineered region. Then, PBDB‐T with optical absorption centered at the wavelength of 624 nm is coated onto the surface of the heterostructure, enhancing the photoresponse of the defect‐engineered WSe2‐Graphene to the red light (633 nm) ten times. Furthermore, a red‐sensitive image array with 6 × 10 pixels is constructed. This work paves a novel avenue for developing the 2D color‐resolvable photodetector array.

ObjectiveThe aim of this study was to examine the factors influencing the prognosis of patients diagnosed with acute basilar artery occlusion (BAO) who receive endovascular treatment. Our particular emphasis was on the predictive implications of the time window for treatment (from symptom onset to femoral artery puncture) and preoperative symptoms for prognosis.MethodsA retrospective analysis of data collected from 51 BAO patients who received endovascular treatment at the Neurosurgery Department of Jinhua Central Hospital from April 2018 to October 2021 was undertaken. The data included immediate post-interventional recanalization rates and the 90-day clinical prognoses of the patients. We used the Modified Rankin Scale (mRs) to categorize patients into two prognosis groups: a favorable prognosis group (mRs score ≤2) and an unfavorable prognosis group (mRs score >2). Preoperative symptoms were gauged using the Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS) and National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) scores. A logistic regression analysis was conducted to identify risk factors affecting the prognosis of BAO patients following endovascular treatment.ResultsThe procedure resulted in complete recanalization in all patients (100%). However, four patients (7.8%) passed away during the postoperative hospitalization period. The remaining 47 patients were followed up for 3 months. It was found that 15 patients (31.91%) had a favorable prognosis, while 32 (68.09%) had an unfavorable prognosis. It was generally observed that patients with an unfavorable prognosis had notably higher preoperative GCS and NIHSS scores (p < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis revealed that preoperative symptom severity, as indicated by NIHSS score, and treatment time window were significant prognostic risk factors for patients undergoing endovascular treatment for BAO (p < 0.05).ConclusionEndovascular intervention for BAO appears to be safe and effective, with greater likelihood of a favorable prognosis in patients treated within ≤6 h. The chances of favorable prognosis could potentially be linked to the severity of the patient's preoperative symptoms.

BackgroundThe correlation between gut microbiota and Alzheimer's disease (AD) is increasingly being recognized by clinicians. However, knowledge about the gut–brain–cognition interaction remains largely unknown.MethodsOne hundred and twenty-seven participants, including 35 normal controls (NCs), 62 with subjective cognitive decline (SCD), and 30 with cognitive impairment (CI), were included in this study. The participants underwent neuropsychological assessments and fecal microbiota analysis through 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) Illumina Miseq sequencing technique. Structural MRI data were analyzed for cortical anatomical features, including thickness, sulcus depth, fractal dimension, and Toro's gyrification index using the SBM method. The association of altered gut microbiota among the three groups with structural MRI metrics and cognitive function was evaluated. Furthermore, co-expression network analysis was conducted to investigate the gut–brain–cognition interactions.ResultsThe abundance of Lachnospiraceae, Lachnospiracea_incertae_sedis, Fusicatenibacter, and Anaerobutyricum decreased with cognitive ability. Rikenellaceae, Odoribacteraceae, and Alistipes were specifically enriched in the CI group. Mediterraneibacter abundance was correlated with changes in brain gray matter and cerebrospinal fluid volume (p = 0.0214, p = 0.0162) and significantly with changes in cortical structures in brain regions, such as the internal olfactory area and the parahippocampal gyrus. The three colonies enriched in the CI group were positively correlated with cognitive function and significantly associated with changes in cortical structure related to cognitive function, such as the precuneus and syrinx gyrus.ConclusionThis study provided evidence that there was an inner relationship among the altered gut microbiota, brain atrophy, and cognitive decline. Targeting the gut microbiota may be a novel therapeutic strategy for early AD.

BackgroundDisordered gut microbiota (GM) structure and function may contribute to osteoporosis (OP). This study explores how traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) intervention affects the structure and function of the GM in patients with OP.MethodIn a 3-month clinical study, 43 patients were randomly divided into two groups receiving conventional treatment and combined TCM (Yigu decoction, YGD) treatment. The correlation between the intestinal flora and its metabolites was analyzed using 16S rDNA and untargeted metabolomics and the combination of the two.ResultsAfter three months of treatment, patients in the treatment group had better bone mineral density (BMD) than those in the control group (P < 0.05). Patients in the treatment group had obvious abundance changes in GM microbes, such as Bacteroides, Escherichia-Shigella, Faecalibacterium, Megamonas, Blautia, Klebsiella, Romboutsia, Akkermansia, and Prevotella_9. The functional changes observed in the GM mainly involved changes in metabolic function, genetic information processing and cellular processes. The metabolites for which major changes were observed were capsazepine, Phe-Tyr, dichlorprop, D-pyroglutamic acid and tamsulosin. These metabolites may act through metabolic pathways, the citrate cycle (TCA cycle) and beta alanine metabolism. Combined analysis showed that the main acting metabolites were dichlorprop, capsazepine, D-pyroglutamic acid and tamsulosin.ConclusionThis study showed that TCM influenced the structure and function of the GM in patients with OP, which may be one mechanism by which TCM promotes the rehabilitation of patients with OP through the GM.

Microcystins (MCs), a group of most widespread freshwater cyanotoxins that possess strong neurotoxicity, can adversely affect brain structures and functions and are linked to neurodegenerative diseases. Despite the essential role of lipids in brain structures and functions, the brain lipidome profile of mammals exposed to MCs remains unexplored, hindering a clear understanding of the neurotoxic effects of MCs and underlying mechanisms. In this study, we performed untargeted lipidomic profiling using ultra-performance liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS) on the prefrontal cortex and hippocampus of mice orally exposed to 30 and 300 μg/kg body mass/day of microcystin-leucine arginine (MC-LR) for 180 days to evaluate the impacts of MC-LR on the brain lipidome profile and functions. Our results show that MC-LR resulted in a decline in cognitive parameters, as assessed by the Morris water maze test. Interestingly, apparent neurodegenerative changes were observed in the prefrontal cortex, but not in the hippocampus. Comprehensive lipidomic analyses uncovered profound, region-specific changes in the phospholipid and sphingolipid profile at the levels of lipid subclasses, lipid species, and fatty acyl composition. These changes showed overall decrease trends of lipid content in the prefrontal cortex yet increasing trends in the hippocampus. We identified distinct transcriptional regulations of lipid metabolism and apoptosis by MC-LR in the two regions, which appeared to underlie the neurodegenerative changes. Collectively, this study uncovers region-specific changes in the brain lipidome profile and functions induced by MCs, shedding light on the role of lipid dysfunction in neurotoxicity mechanism of MCs.

Summary: Marine biofouling causes huge economic losses to the marine industry every year. Albofungin is a potential antifoulant showing strong anti-macrofouling activities against larval settlement of major fouling organisms. In the present study, directed RNA-seq and proteomic analyses were used to investigate changes in the transcriptome and proteome of a major fouling barnacle Amphibalanus amphitrite cyprids in response to albofungin treatment. Results showed that albofungin treatment remarkably upregulated the metabolism of xenobiotics by the cytochrome P450 pathway to discharge the compound and downregulated energy metabolic processes. Intriguingly, immunostaining and whole-mount in situ hybridization (WISH) revealed the spatial expression patterns of selected differentially expressed genes (glutathione S-transferase [GST], nitric oxide synthase [NOS], and calmodulin [CaM]) distributed in the thorax and antennule of A. amphitrite. Our study provides new insights into the mechanism of albofungin in interrupting the larval settlement of A. amphitrite and suggests its potential application as an antifouling agent in marine environments.

Abstract Background Pulmonary chronic graft-versus-host disease (cGVHD) after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT) is a devastating complication and often diagnosed at a late stage when lung dysfunction is irreversible. Identifying patients before transplant who are at risk may offer improved strategies to decrease the mortality. Bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) is the typical manifestation of pulmonary cGVHD, which is clinically diagnosed by pulmonary function test (PFT). This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of PFT pre-HSCT for BOS. Methods A single center cohort of 923 allo-HSCT recipients was analyzed, including 15 patients who developed pulmonary cGVHD. Kaplan–Meier method was used to analyze the 3 year progression free survival and 3 year overall survival (OS). A Cox regression model was applied for univariate and multivariate models. Results The 3 year cumulative incidence of pulmonary cGVHD was 2.04% (95% CI 1.00–3.08%). Abstract Objective This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of perampanel (PER) therapy and to optimize a specific plasma reference range for PER in children. Another major aim was to evaluate the potential determinators of PER concentration. Methods Concentrations obtained from 80 children were analyzed for routine therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) between 2021 and 2022. We retrospectively reviewed the clinical data of these patients and assessed the efficacy at 3 months after treatment initiation. Trough concentration‐to‐dose ratio (C0/Dose ratio) of PER was compared among patients on various potential influencing factors. Results A 3‐month PER therapy produced a ≥50% reduction in seizure frequency in 58.8% of patients. Twelve patients reported at least one adverse effect (AE), mainly dizziness. Abstract CircRNAs have been reported to play crucial roles in tumor progression and recurrence, showing potential as biomarkers in cancer. However, the global abundance of circRNA and their involvement in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) development have not been fully explored. Whole transcriptome sequencing was performed on tumor and peritumor from 60 patients with HCC to quantify the expression of circRNAs, and the global circRNA abundance was calculated by circRNA index (CRI). Gene‐set enrichment analysis and weighted gene co‐expression network analysis were used to reveal the biological signaling pathways associated with the global circRNA abundance. The correlation between the global circRNA abundance and the infiltration level of CD8+ T cells was explored by immunohistochemical assays. Small interfering RNA was used to knock down the pre–messenger RNA spliceosome in HCC cell lines to verify the regulation of spliceosome in global circRNA abundance. We found that dysregulation of global circRNA abundance in both tumor and peritumor could lead to worse prognosis. The immunohistochemical assay further revealed that the dysregulation of global circRNA abundance in both tumor and peritumor would obstruct the CD8+ T cells from invading into the tumor, which might explain its correlation with HCC prognosis. We also demonstrated that the spliceosome genes were the main factors to regulate the global circRNA abundance in HCC, and these results were also confirmed by knockdown experiments. Conclusion: This study revealed the association between the global circRNA abundance and patients' prognosis and its underlying mechanism.

For formulate an effective maintenance scheme of submarine pipeline and effectively ensure the safe operation of submarine pipeline, a strength evaluation and reliability technology of energy pipeline based on Fuzzy depth learning network algorithm is proposed. Firstly, the influence factors of marine environment on submarine pipeline corrosion are described. Secondly, the reliability model of corroded submarine pipeline is established. Given the uncertainty of the relevant parameters of the corrosion defect, the equation of state of the corrosion protection pipe shall be determined on the basis of the corrosion pressure analysis of the corrosion protection pipe. A vague in-depth networking algorithm is used to calculate the probability of a rusty pipeline failure. The results show that the probability of corrosion of the pipeline increases rapidly over time. When the time is 22 years, the failure probability is 2 × 10−4. When the time is 30a, the failure probability is 3.1 × 10−3. The feasibility of fuzzy deep learning network algorithm is verified.

Abstract Acute liver failure caused by drug overdose is a significant clinical problem in developed countries. Acetaminophen (APAP), a widely used analgesic and antipyretic drug, but its overdose can cause acute liver failure. In addition to APAP-induced direct hepatotoxicity, the intracellular signaling mechanisms of APAP-induced liver injury (AILI) including metabolic activation, mitochondrial oxidant stress and proinflammatory response further affect progression and severity of AILI. Liver inflammation is a result of multiple interactions of cell death molecules, immune cell-derived cytokines and chemokines, as well as damaged cell-released signals which orchestrate hepatic immune cell infiltration. The immunoregulatory interplay of these inflammatory mediators and switching of immune responses during AILI lead to different fate of liver pathology. Thus, better understanding the complex interplay of immune cell subsets in experimental models and defining their functional involvement in disease progression are essential to identify novel therapeutic targets for the treatment of AILI. Here, this present review aims to systematically elaborate on the underlying immunological mechanisms of AILI, its relevance to immune cells and their effector molecules, and briefly discuss great therapeutic potential based on inflammatory mediators.

Abstract Background Wax gourd [Benincasa hispida (Thunb) Cogn. (2n = 2x = 24)] is an economically important vegetable crop of genus Benincasa in the Cucurbitaceae family. Fruit is the main consumption organ of wax gourd. The mature fruit cuticular wax (MFCW) is an important trait in breeding programs, which is also of evolutionary significance in wax gourd. However, the genetic architecture of this valuable trait remains unrevealed. Results In this study, genetic analysis revealed that the inheritance of MFCW was controlled by a single gene, with MFCW dominant over non-MFCW, and the gene was primarily named as BhWAX. Genome-wide association study (GWAS) highlighted a 1.1 Mb interval on chromosome 9 associated with MFCW in wax gourd germplasm resources. Traditional fine genetic mapping delimited BhWAX to a 0.5 Mb region containing 12 genes. Based on the gene annotation, expression analysis and co-segregation analysis, Bhi09G001428 that encodes a membrane bound O-acyltransferase (MBOAT) was proposed as the candidate gene for BhWAX. Moreover, it was demonstrated that the efficiency of a cleaved amplified polymorphic sequences (CAPS) marker in the determination of MFCW in wax gourd reached 80%. Conclusions In closing, the study identified the candidate gene controlling MFCW and provided an efficient molecular marker for the trait in wax gourd for the first time, which will not only be beneficial for functional validation of the gene and marker-assisted breeding of wax gourd, but also lay a foundation for analysis of its evolutionary meaning among cucurbits.

Abstract Purpose This study was designed to analyze the liver tissue changes among the CHB patients who received treatment for at least 6 months and follow-up for at least 1 year, together with the correlation between the different disease condition and serum markers. Methods One-hundred and eighty-five CHB patients underwent antiviral therapy for at least 6 months were enrolled. In the 12-month follow-up, ultrasonography-guided biopsy was performed. The patients were grouped based on the serum markers and pathological changes in liver tissues. Then we determined the serum markers, virological tests and Tim-3 expression among these groups. Results Antiviral therapy significantly reduced liver inflammation indicators and serum Tim-3 level. However, the fibrosis process of liver tissue was not changed, and there are still disputes on the serum marker and hepatic lesion outcomes. Under normal liver function or negative hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg) of CHB patients, there might be consensus between Tim-3 change and liver pathological outcome. According to the liver tissue inflammation and fibrosis conditions, Tim-3 was positively correlated with liver function indices. Besides, it was also related to fibrosis stage and inflammation grade. Conclusion There were inconsistent changes between serum markers and liver tissue conditions after anti-viral therapy. Tim-3 expression was more suitable to indicate the changes of liver inflammatory and fibrosis response to some extent than ALT and AST. It may serve as a certain indicator to predict the CHB prognosis, which could be used as one of the monitoring indicators in liver pathological changes of chronic HBV infection, especially in monitoring liver tissue inflammation.
