Education scholarship is unclear about what matters most to novice teachers' enactment of culturally responsive instructional practices. To better understand the factors that contribute to novice teachers' instructional decision-making, the authors used Role Theory as a framework for an in-depth analysis of three first-year urban teachers who completed the same teacher preparation program. Classroom observation data of the three teachers indicated that one of the teachers used culturally responsive instructional practices frequently, one used them occasionally, and one only rarely. To understand this range in use, surveys and interviews measured the school context and cognitive variables that influenced each teachers' perception of their professional role. Findings indicate that the key factor affecting use of culturally responsive pedagogy (CRP) was the degree to which each teacher experienced consistent or conflicting role demands between their school context and their personal beliefs about teaching. The role consensus experienced by one teacher supported her frequent use of CRP, while the role conflict experienced by the second teacher was attributed to her occasional use, and the role overload experienced by the third teacher explained her rare use of CRP. An essential characteristic of marketing practice and theory is the promotion of exchanges, many of which are funded by money. Marketing literature thus places great emphasis on determining what factors influence consumers to engage in the marketplace. Less understood, however, is how consumers allocate monetary resources to fund exchanges. Scholars have demonstrated that people employ earmarks to segregate money by source, meaning, or purpose. The ethnographic study of provisioning in the current research adds to prior scholarship with an explanation of how money, as a fungible resource, is transformed into moral and social resources by the behavioral process of ascribing earmarks and approaching provisioning. As part of this study, the author develops a typology that incorporates thrift provisioning and splurge provisioning approaches to categorize consumer goals derived from the use of prosaic and indexical earmarks. These goals are defined as economizing, sustaining, treating, and rewarding. The article closes with a discussion of implications for marketing managers and potential avenues for further research. Paphiopedilum is an ornamental orchid used mainly for interior decoration. As the division of plants is uneconomical, a fast method of propagation is needed. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of medium type (MS or VW), growth regulators, i.e. BA, KIN, TDZ used separately or in combinations and natural additives, i.e. coconut water, banana pulp, casein hydrolysate, on Paphiopedilum insigne plantlets grown in vitro. It was found out that BA in concentration of 0.5 mg·dm-3 allowed to obtain the highest multiplication rate (2.92), however the use of KIN in concentration of 1 mg·dm-3 resulted in formation of bigger and higher quality plantlets, It is possible to replace cytokinins with other biologically active substance, such as banana pulp. The 1/2 MS medium might be used for Paphiopedilum insigne tissue culture, as there was no difference in terms of multiplication rate and the obtained plantlets were of better quality, especially that it is cheaper and easier to prepare. We propose instance segmentation as a useful tool for image analysis in materials science. Instance segmentation is an advanced technique in computer vision which generates individual segmentation masks for every object of interest that is recognized in an image. Using an out-of-the-box implementation of Mask R-CNN, instance segmentation is applied to images of metal powder particles produced through gas atomization. Leveraging transfer learning allows for the analysis to be conducted with a very small training set of labeled images. As well as providing another method for measuring the particle size distribution, we demonstrate the first direct measurements of the satellite content in powder samples. After analyzing the results for the labeled data dataset, the trained model was used to generate measurements for a much larger set of unlabeled images. The resulting particle size measurements showed reasonable agreement with laser scattering measurements. The satellite measurements were self-consistent and showed good agreement with the expected trends for different samples. Finally, we present a small case study showing how instance segmentation can be used to measure spheroidite content in the UltraHigh Carbon Steel DataBase, demonstrating the flexibility of the technique. To investigate the suitable medium for in vitro shoot regeneration and plantlet growth of Dendrobium crumenatum Sw., individual protocorm-like bodies (PLBs) (about 4 - 5 mm in diameter) of Dendrobium crumenatum Sw. derived from MS medium supplemented with 0.5 mg/L TDZ for 60 days of culture were cultured on 6 culture media; Murashige and Skoog (MS) medium, MS medium supplemented with 15 % (v/v) CW, MS medium supplemented with 15 % (v/v) CW and 0.2 % (w/v) AC, Vacin and Went (VW) medium, VW medium supplemented with 15 % (v/v) CW, VW medium supplemented with 15 % (v/v) CW and 0.2 % (w/v) AC. After 4 months of culture, MS medium containing 15 % coconut water (CW) gave the highest percentage of shooting and number of shoots per explant of 96.0 and 9.5, respectively with a significant difference from other media. The addition of 0.2 % (w/v) activated charcoal (AC) significantly increased the number of leaves and roots. PLBs developed into complete plantlets. MS medium supplemented with 15 % (v/v) CW and 0.2 % (w/v) AC and VW medium supplemented with 15 % (v/v) CW and 0.2 % (w/v) AC gave the highest number of roots per plantlet and root length at 5.3 roots and 34.9 mm, respectively. After the transfer of rooted shoots to the greenhouse, 95 % of the regenerated plantlets survived and grew vigorously. In this study we report a cost-effective and reproducible protocol for large-scale multiplication of an important medicinal orchid, Satyrium nepalense through a four-step protocol, involving asymbiotic seed germination, multiplication of protocorm-like bodies (PLBs), development and multiplication of shoots, and finally in vitro rooting of the developed shoots. Out of various media tested for seed germination, Mitra's medium supplemented with 0.1 % peptone (BM) supported the highest (79.19 %) seed germination. Eight-weekold protocorms were sub-cultured on BM alone and supplemented with different concentrations (1-8 μM) of BAP, KN, or TDZ. The highest number of shoots was developed on the medium containing 4 μM KN. Here we also observed that the highest number of shoots were produced from protocorms cultured on a 2 % isubgol gelled medium out of the seven different low-cost gelling agents used. Further, optimal elongation of shoots was observed on BM alone and 2 % guar gum, among the tested gelling agents. Elongated shoots were transferred for rooting on BM containing 0-2 μM of IAA, IBA, or NAA. The best rhizogenic response was observed on BM fortified with 0.5 μM IBA and isubgol (3 %). The rooted plantlets showed a 76 % survival rate on acclimatization after transfer to the potting mixture of sand and vermiculite (1:1). HPLC analysis of therapeutically important phenolic acids of leaves and tubers of in vitro regenerated and in vivo plants revealed the presence of higher levels of selected phenolic acids in in vitro tissues than those from their native habitat. Dendrobium fimbriatum is an ornamental and medicinal orchid listed in the Red data book of IUCN. Phytohormones' effect on the in vitro regeneration of the orchid was studied using Mitra medium supplemented with different growth regulators. KN produced effective shoot formation when present alone or in combination with IBA or NAA. The shooting was gradually increased when KN concentration was increased from 0.8 to 4.8 mg L−1, but the opposite response was observed with BAP at higher concentration (4.8 mg L−1). IBA either in combination with BAP or KN promoted effective root development and multiplication. Micropropagated orchids grown in the basal medium devoid of any phytohormone showed 100% monomorphism, while low genetic polymorphism of 1.52% (RAPD—Random Amplification of Polymorphic DNA), 1.19% (ISSR-Inter Simple Sequence Repeat) and 3.97% (SCoT—Start Codon Targeted) was exhibited among the regenerants propagated in the hormone enriched medium. UPGMA (Unweighted pair group method using arithmetic averages) dendrograms showed the grouping of mother plant (MP) with the in vitro regenerants. The principal coordinate analysis (PCoA) further confirmed the clustering patterns as determined by the cluster analysis. Sub-Saharan Africa faces high rates of maternal mortality and there is an urgent need to reduce this. Shortfalls in access to safe surgery and anaesthetic care result in avoidable maternal death. Providing quality training to anaesthesia providers is of key importance to reduce mortality. This mixed-methods prospective study incorporated workplace observations of anaesthesia for Caesarean section, a paper-based questionnaire and semi-structured, face-to-face interviews in Felege Hiwot Referral Hospital in Ethiopia. A total of 67 Caesarean section cases under spinal anaesthesia provided by 12 non-physician anaesthetists were observed and a 92% (n = 11) response rate to questionnaires obtained. Deficiencies were observed in communication, pre-operative assessment, spinal height evaluation and application of lateral tilt, while interviews revealed anaesthesia provider perceptions of hierarchy within the surgical team and deficiency in anticipation of potential complications. Paphiopedilum is a very original orchid, which labellum resembles a slipper. It is cultivated as a cut flower or a pot plant. The aim of the presented work was to estimate the influence of a disinfection method and addition of a liquid media on germination of Paphiopedilum insigne seeds in vitro. The whole seed capsules were disinfected with the use of 0.5% of AgNO3 for 20 min, 0.1% of HgCl2 for 5 s, 1% NaOCl for 30 min or immersed in a 96% ethanol and burned in a direct flame. The disinfected seeds were placed on a 1/4 MS (Murashige and Skoog) solidified media on top of which a liquid phase containing 1/4 MS elements, GA3 in concentration of 400 mg·dm-3 or distilled sterile water were added. The media without the liquid phase was also tested. It was noted that all methods of disinfection used effectively reduced contaminations of Paphiopedilum insigne seeds. The highest germination rate was observed when capsules were direct flamed and the liquid phase was added on top of the solidified media. The influence of growth regulators (BA, TDZ, KIN and 2,4-D) and casein hydrolysate added to the media on the morphological features of the obtained plants was also tested. It was observed that the most regenerated protocorms of the best quality were obtained when the media was supplemented with 1 mg·dm-3 of BA + 2 mg·dm-3 of TDZ or 5 mg·dm-3 of KIN + 1 mg·dm-3 of BA. Dendrobiums are one of the most popular orchids genus that produces a wide range of beautiful blossoms. Cut flowers and potted plants of Dendrobium are in high demand in both domestic and foreign markets. A well-established orchid industry has boosted the economies of several countries. The Western Himalayan range in India is abundant in orchid genetic resources. However, the country's natural orchid riches, as well as that of this region, has yet to be wisely harnessed and managed in order to reap economic benefits. Furthermore, unless scientific conservation and effective utilisation methods are followed, the majority of the valuable orchid wealth will be lost. It is important to use tissue culture technologies for mass production and conservation of valuable orchid varieties in this scenario. The conditions are ideal for orchid production in Uttarakhand, and efforts should be made to establish an orchid centre in the state. Once work on mass multiplication is undertaken on a broad scale and women's participation in orchid production is promoted, this will serve as a source of revenue and job prospects for poverty reduction. The tissue culture systems will ensure a large quantity of high-quality orchid plant material, which can then be sent to farmers for cultivation, along with proper technical support and the development of effective marketing linkages. With the fast growth of renewable energy sources (RES), more and more uncertainties are involved and influencing the stable operation of power systems. Controlled islanding is the last measure to prevent power system blackouts, thus this paper aims to propose a novel model of system separation based on Online Coherency Identification and Adjustable Robust Optimization Programming (OCI-AROP) for minimizing load shedding considering the uncertainties of RES. First, Fuzzy C-Means (FCM) clustering method with F-statistics is utilized to identify the coherent generator groups with the frequency data measured by Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). Then, the OCI-AROP model considering coherent group constraints, connectivity constraints and robustness constraints about RES are presented. Finally, the case studies on IEEE-39 bus system and WECC-179 bus system are employed to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed OCI-AROP model, and comparisons among the OCI-AROP model and the other models are also given to show its superiority. This paper explores how feminist and indigenous archaeologies can ally to produce decolonizing heritage practice through intersubjective methods. Intersectional feminisms, particularly Native feminisms, suggest that focusing on local gender contexts in indigenous community research can subvert settler colonial systems, under which sexism and racism conspire to oppress Native people. I apply these insights about the decolonizing potential of localized gender research to a community‐centered project at Nunalleq, a Thule‐era site near the Yup'ik village of Quinhagak, Alaska. Here, stakeholder perspectives on gender suggest that framing site interpretations through concepts of family and teaching/learning would align with community values in potentially powerful ways. Background: Typical experimental design advice for expression analyses using RNA-seq generally assumes that single-end reads provide robust gene-level expression estimates in a cost-effective manner, and that the additional benefits obtained from paired-end sequencing are not worth the additional cost. However, in many cases (e.g., with Illumina NextSeq and NovaSeq instruments), shorter paired-end reads and longer single-end reads can be generated for the same cost, and it is not obvious which strategy should be preferred. Using publicly available data, we test whether short-paired end reads can achieve more robust expression estimates and differential expression results than single-end reads of approximately the same total number of sequenced bases. Results: At both the transcript and gene levels, 2 × 40 paired-end reads unequivocally provide expression estimates that are more highly correlated with 2 × 125 than 1 × 75 reads; in nearly all cases, those correlations are also greater than for 1 × 125, despite the greater total number of sequenced bases for the latter. Across an array of metrics, differential expression tests based upon 2 × 40 consistently outperform those using 1 × 75. Conclusion: Researchers seeking a cost-effective approach for gene-level expression analysis should prefer short paired-end reads over a longer single-end strategy. Billboard charts are curators of popular music culture. As Will Straw observes, Billboard charts bring order to otherwise chaotic consumption behaviors, by processing, archiving and transmitting a musical product's commercial activity to radio programmers, streaming services and record labels, thus creating a cyclic relationship between Billboard and these actors. Through this process, charts document and shape a genre's culture. Theories of social remembering offer a critical framework for considering the credibility of such record keeping within a culture that disadvantages and systematically ignores women. Influenced by the work of Catherine Strong, this article explores the role of Billboard charts in the process of 'remembering' and 'forgetting' in country music culture. In this context, Billboard charts function as curatorial instruments that systematically 'remember' some artists, while 'casting away' others. Drawing on the results of a data-driven analysis of the Hot Country Songs (HCS) chart, this article argues that Billboard's new methodology has contributed to the radical extinction of variety and erasure of women's narrative voices within country music culture. The limited number of independent β-Sn grain orientations resulting from the difficulty in nucleating β-Sn during solidification of Sn-based solders has a large effect on the resulting β-Sn grain size and, hence, on overall solder joint performance and reliability. This study analyzes the efficacy of Ge as a heterogeneous nucleation agent for β-Sn by observing the morphologies and orientation relationships of as-deposited, solid-state annealed, and liquid-state annealed pure Sn films on single crystal Ge (100), (110), and (111) substrates. Results from scanning electron microscopy and electron backscatter diffraction showed that the as-deposited Sn films all deposited with a Sn (001)|| z-axis texture, regardless of the underlying Ge substrate orientation. Solid-state annealing at 150 °C for 5 min did not result in significant dewetting of the Sn films, and the films maintained their as-deposited texture of Sn (001)|| z-axis, regardless of the underlying Ge substrate orientation. Liquid-state annealing at 235 °C for 1 min resulted is large-scale dewetting of the Sn films and re-orientation of the Sn films on the various Ge substrates. After solidification, the Ge (100) and (110) single crystal substrates produced patches of dewetted grains of the same orientation but there were no consistent Sn grain textures after liquid-state annealing, suggesting no single orientation relationship. In contrast, solidification on Ge (111) single crystal substrates resulted in isolated grains with a single Sn film texture and an orientation relationship of 100 Sn ‖ 111 Ge and 100 Sn ‖ 110 Ge . Density Functional Theory simulations of the experimentally observed Ge (111) sample orientation relationship and the Ge/Sn cube-on-cube orientation relationship suggest favorable relative interfacial binding energies for both interface orientations.
