Bu çalışmada, Doğu Akdeniz Tarım Havzasında bazalt, serpantin ve kireçtaşı ana materyalleri üzerinde oluşmuş topraklarda gidya (% 0, 1, 2, 4) ve azot (0, 70, 140 ve 210 mg kg-1) uygulamalarının kırmızı biber bitkisi ve farklı toprak çeşitleri üzerine etkileri incelenmiştir. Araştırmada, vejetatif gelişim bakımından gidya uygulamalarında bitki ağırlıklarındaki artış istatistiksel olarak önemli bulunmuştur. Ancak, gidya uygulamalarının meyve verimi üzerine önemli bir etkisi gözlemlenmemiştir. Diğer yandan, 140 mg kg-1 ve 210 mg kg-1 azot dozlarında bitki ve meyve ağırlıklarında önemli oranda artışlar görülmüştür. Farklı topraklarda yetiştirilen kırmızı biber bitkilerindeki morfolojik değişimler bakımından en yüksek bitki boyu ve en yüksek bitki ağırlığı bazaltik topraklarda, en yüksek meyve ağırlığı serpantinli topraklarda ve en yüksek meyve sayısı kireçli topraklarda yetişen bitkilerde ölçülmüştür.

WOS: 000403522500005, The Eastern Mediterranean and Caucasus are located among the Eurasian, African and Arabian plates, and tectonic activities are very complex. In this paper, the kinematics and strain distribution in these regions are determined and investigated from dense GPS observations with over 1000 stations and longer observations. The elastic block model is used to constrain present-day plate motions and crustal deformation. The relative Euler vectors between the Nubian, Arabian, Caucasus, Anatolian and Central Iranian plates are estimated. The Arabian-Eurasia, Anatolian-Eurasia, Nubian-Eurasia, Caucasus-Eurasia and Central Iranian Euler vectors are 0.584 +/- 0.1 Myr(-1), 0.825 +/- 0.064 Myr(-1), 0.35 +/- 0.175 Myr(-1), 0.85 +/- 0.086 Myr(-1) and 0.126 +/- 0.016 Myr-1. The strain rate in the East Mediterranean and Caucasus has been estimated from the GPS velocity field. The results show that the thrust dominated areas, the eastern Mediterranean-Middle East-Caucasus and Zagros have negative dilatation and the western Anatolia region has positive 2D dilatation rate with significant rotation. The west Anatolian shows the extension in NW-SE with about 150-199 nstrain/yr in the W-E direction. The Central Anatolia shows compression rate below 50 nstrain/yr and extensional strain rate adjacent to East Anatolian Fault and Dead Sea Fault is about 0-100 nstrain/yr. The contraction strain rate is higher in Zagros and Caucasus between 100150 nstrain/yr and contraction orientation is along the NE-SW direction in Caucasus. The north part of Iran shows less contraction rate below 50 nstrain/yr but North-East Zagros Mountains, Tabriz fault and Chalderan fault show extensional rate between 50-110 nstrain/yr and principal axes rotation in the NS direction. The maximum contraction observed in the Kopek Dag is about 100-194 nstrain/yr and orientated in the NE-SW direction. East Zagros Mountain and Makran subduction zone have a large clockwise rotation with 70-85 nradian and principal axes remains mostly along the N-S direction. The observed extension is along N-S by about 0-100 nstrain/yr with counter clockwise rotation in Dead Sea Fault. The Sinai block shows shortening rate in the range of 0-100 nstrain/yr. Dissolved gaseous mercury (DGM) was studied in surface and deep waters of the Mediterranean Sea over the last 15 years during several oceanographic cruises on board the Italian research vessels Urania and Minerva Uno, covering the Western and Eastern Mediterranean Basins as well as Adriatic Sea as its northernmost part. DGM was measured together with other mercury species (RHg - reactive Hg, THg - total Hg, MeHg - monomethyl Hg and DMeHg - dimethylmercury), and with water quality parameters in coastal and open sea deep water profiles. DGM represents a considerable portion of THg (on average 20%) in Mediterranean waters. Spatial and seasonal variations of measured DGM concentrations were observed in different identified water masses. DGM was the highest in the northern Adriatic, the most polluted part of the Mediterranean Sea as a consequence of Hg mining in Idrija and heavy industry in northern Italy, and near the Gulf of Lion. Generally, average DGM concentration was higher in the West and East Mediterranean Deep Waters (WMDW and EMDW) and Levantine Intermediate Water (LIW) than in overlaying Modified Atlantic Water (MAW); however, it was the highest in N Adriatic Surface waters (NAdSW) and consequently in outflowing Adriatic Deep Waters (AdDW). In deep water profiles the portion of DGM typically increased at depths with oxygen minimum and then towards the bottom, especially in areas with strong tectonic activity (Alboran Sea, Strait of Sicily, Tyrrhenian Sea), indicating its bacterial and/or geotectonic origin. During oceanographic cruises in 2011 and 2015 in the Tyrrhenian Sea, novel methods for continuous DGM determination in surface waters (Wangberg and Gardfeldt, 2011, Begu et al., 2016) were applied and compared to the standard method, and showed good agreement.

An integrated approach to redirecting traffic from roads to more efficient and environmentally friendly forms of transport implies the definition of strategic guidelines for combining comparative advantages of intermodal transport and development of land, port, railroad and other traffic infrastructure. This concept of development of east-Mediterranean “motorways of the sea” enables the development of shipping and intermodality in the entire region. The European transport policy, in the context of affirmation of a sustainable and efficient traffic and particularly important potential of “motorways of the sea” in environment protection, enables the achievement of a sustainable economic development of the countries in the region. The aim of the paper is to study the influence of cargo flows on the sustainable development of the “motorways of the sea” in the east Mediterranean and the applicability of the general framework of MoS policy. The paper emphasises the advantages and significance of coastal traffic connections and the “motorways of the sea” and identifies the limitations. It analyses the corridors in the Mediterranean countries relevant for the tra c development of the region. Among other things, the aim of the paper is to provide support to decision makers in establishing a successful MoS network.

This study presents the diet composition of 43 of some of the most abundant fish species from the North Aegean Sea, Greece. According to the diet analysis and fractional trophic level previously reported in the literature, 20 of the studied species were omnivores with a preference for animals and the other half were carnivores (15 with preference for fish and Cephalopoda, and seven with preference for fish and Decapoda), whereas Parablennius gattorugine was the only recorded omnivore with a preference for plant material. Finally, according to the results of Schoener’s index, diet overlap between species was recorded in a small number of cases (33 out of the 903 pairs examined). Yet, competition among diet-overlapping species may be minimised by either morphological differentiations and/or habitat segregation.

Lake Prespa beach ridges register climate-driven water-level fluctuations that contain a strong North Atlantic signal. This study examines the beach ridge complex that underlies the Koula isthmus (Lake Prespa, Greece) and contains a sedimentary archive of lake-level variations spanning >5 kyr. Past lake levels were reconstructed through the accurate height survey of selected beach sediment facies that form reliable stage indicators. Here, we present the first quantitative lake level recorded in the Balkans, covering ~1 kyr, based on sediment-stratigraphic analyses and supported by five radiocarbon and six optically stimulated luminescence (OSL) age estimates. All major low/high lake phases over the past millennium were identified and dated in the sediment record. Low lake levels (842–847 m) from AD 900–1000 to AD 1430 dominated the Medieval Climate Anomaly (MCA). Generally, high water levels (>847 m) are recorded after AD ~1430, corresponding to the regional start of the ‘Little Ice Age’ (LIA), up to AD 1987. This high lake phase was interspersed by a multi-decadal water-level fall to ~846.5 m ending AD ~1650. Low levels after AD 1987 (842–845 m) were mainly caused by water abstraction. Absolute water-level changes in Lake Prespa over the past millennium mirror the pattern of hydro-climatic changes in the west-central Mediterranean, indicating that the study region belonged to this hydro-climatic domain. The observed influence of the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO) on winter precipitation and lake level (1951–2004) is also relevant over the past ~1 kyr, as the NAO index was overall positive during the MCA and negative during the ‘LIA’.

This study investigated the technological aspects of the Roman wall painting schemes discovered in Caesarea. Remains of painted plaster were found in-situ, attached to their original support. In addition, thousands of loose fragments were excavated. These findings revealed invaluable information about materials and techniques that were in use in the Eastern Mediterranean coast during the Roman period. The diverse painting schemes provide an opportunity to investigate the technology prevalent from the early Roman period (1st century BCE) to the end of the Roman period in that region (3rd century CE). Located at the center of the eastern Mediterranean coast, Caesarea was an extremely important city in the Roman period. The research findings show a strong technological relation to other Roman sites and align well with other technical studies from the region. The study demonstrated the use of local painting materials together with materials that are not local and were therefore imported. All of the paintings were executed on lime-based renders. A range of 9 pigments was identified using optical microscopy and complementary analytical techniques (X-ray diffraction, Fourier Transform Infrared and Raman Spectroscopies, Scanning Electron Microscopy – Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy). The pigments that were identified are: lime white; yellow ochre; red ochre; hematite; cinnabar; red lake; green-earth; Egyptian blue; and carbon black. By mixing or layering these pigments, the artists achieved an extended range of coloristic effects. Importantly, the intensive use of the site showed remarkably frequent phases of extensive redecoration, as in the amphitheater and villa.

Saudi Arabia is a huge area with diverse climatic and topographical features. This diversity in climate is augmented by seasonal weather variations. The study discusses solar irradiance and sunshine duration in terms of seasonal weather systems. Sunshine duration and solar irradiance maps show that the East Mediterranean weather systems (such as Cyprus low) in winter affect the majority of the geographical regions in Saudi Arabia. In spring and autumn, Sudan low becomes more active than Cyprus low, especially in the west and central regions. Sunshine duration in April is 47% compared to 50% in January. Sunshine duration in the southwest region is affected by the rainy and wet summer monsoon which reduces sunshine duration to 33% in summer (July), while it is 43% in winter (January). In addition, the study uses the Angstrom equation to estimate solar irradiance. The absolute relative error between estimated and observed solar irradiance ranges between 2 and 10% in the majority of cases, with a few cases exceeding 13%.

Mihver devletler denen ittifak içinde yer alan İtalya'nın başarısız olması ise Balkanlar'da egemenlik kurmuş olan Almanya'nın devreye girmesine sebep olmuştur. Bu gelişmeye seyirci kalması mümkün olmayan İngiltere ise siyasi ve stratejik bir adım olarak kendi çıkarları adına, Yunanistan anakarasında gerçekleşecek yeni mücadele alanında Almanya karşısında askeri gücü ile yerini almıştır. Yunanistan'da yaşanan mücadele sonucunda başarısız olan İngiliz kuvvetlerinin Girit'e tahliye edilerek çekilmekten başka bir şansı kalmamıştır. Tarih 20 Mayıs 1941'i gösterdiğinde Almanya, Doğu Akdeniz'e egemen olmak ve sonraki operasyonları için askeri bir üs elde etmek adına, Merkür Operasyonu kod adı ile Girit'e yönelik bir harekât başlatmıştır. In the Second World War, Italy lost the war against Greece. Associated with Italy's failure in axis powers, brought about Germany to become a part of its sovereign established by Balkans. As a political and strategical step, the United Kingdom took its place in this new battle against Germany within its military power on the mainland of Greece. The British forces failed due to the struggle in Greece, and there was no choice to withdraw from Crete. On May 20, 1941, Germany launched an operation known as Operation Mercury to rule the Eastern Mediterranean to get a military base for its next operations. The United Kingdom had enough time to protect its interests in North Africa and the Middle East. German paratroopers captured an airport on the island and became more powerful with new reinforcements as days pass. While time was running out on Crete Island, English once more faced the inevitable retreating scenario. At that time, the United Kingdom was not as lucky as in Greece, England lost thousands of soldiers in Crete. It was understood that resist a powerful country such as Germany without any air support was a gamble. 170

Gravity data is processed and the problems of the earth are examined. The density of the data can be arranged to solve detail, semi-detail and regional problems. Here, the gravitational data obtained by processing the linearity of the 2D and 3D visuals in terms of plate size large wavelength structures are examined. 2D linearities determine important stress areas but they are affected at different rates with respect to the spatial distribution of source effect. Due to grid formation, these boundaries are affected at different rates from less dense and very dense structures. Different wavelengths in structure boundary analysis; derivative and phase elements and filters. Vertical change in 3D analysis can be made at the approach level with the analytical examination of 2D change. At this stage, the distribution of source effect and depth model structure parameters are calculated. When examining large wavelength structures, some of the buried structures appear due to cover removal. In search of solutions for tectonic structures that we may miss; The tectonic components that need to be confirmed in the Eastern Mediterranean have been tried to be elucidated in this study. 3D building solutions are important in this respect.

Pollution with copper (Cu), lead (Pb), zinc (Zn), chromium (Cr), and nickel (Ni) heavy metals of the surface sediments collected from three semi-closed East Mediterranean Gulfs, namely Kavala, Strymonikos, and Ierissos Gulfs, North Aegean Sea, Greece, was investigated to evaluate potential benthic ecological risks. The mean concentrations of the studied metals decrease according to the order: Zn > Pb > Cr > Ni > Cu (176.50, 166.23, 127.41, 43.12, and 33.64 mg kg−1 dry weight). Quality indicators and possible ecological risks for metals in surface sediments were evaluated at 60 sampling sites of these three gulfs using the contamination factor (CF), the contamination degree (CD), the pollution load index (PLI), the geoaccumulation index (Igeo), the potential risk factor (PRFi), and the potential ecological risk index (PERI). Based on Igeo, the Ierissos Gulf sampling sites IER 2, 3, 7, and 9 exhibit moderate Pb pollution, whereas the sampling sites IER 6 and 8 show moderate to strong and strong Pb pollution, respectively. Based on the PRFi and PERI, the studied heavy metals did not pose any significant environmental risks for most of the investigated sites except IER 6 and 8 sampling sites, which may pose considerable environmental risk for Pb. To evaluate potential sources for each metal, multivariate techniques including hierarchical cluster analysis and ANOVA were used.

Introduction/Objectives The characteristics of tree nuts (TNs) and peanut (PN) allergies vary in different regions of the world. We aim to identify the characteristics of TNs/PN allergies in Turkish children. Patients and Methods A total of 227 children [4.8 (3.2–6.8) years] with TN and/or PN allergies were included. The phenotypical features of TNs/PN allergic children and the risk factors for multiple TNs/PN allergies were evaluated. Results Allergy to TNs/PN developed at a median age of 12.0 (10.0–18.0) months. The most common TNs/PN responsible for food allergies were the hazelnut (63.9%) and the pistachio (54.6%). Of TNs/PN allergic children, 54.2% experienced reactions with at least two types of . Current ages 6–10 years [OR:2.455, 95% CI:1.255-4.852, p = 0.009] and family history of atopy [OR:2.156, 95% CI:1.182–3.932, p = 0.012] were the risk factors for multiple TNs/PN allergies. Most of the patients with cashew nut and pistachio allergies exhibited co-sensitization and co-allergy to both of these TNs/PN. Although the rarest TNs/PN allergy was seen with almond, the possibility of allergy to other TNs or PN was highly increased in the patients with almond allergy compared to other TNs/PN. Conclusions Children with TNs/PN allergy living in an East Mediterranean region differ from the counterparts living in Western countries by an earlier age of onset of the TNs/PN allergy symptoms, increasing possibility to have multiple TNs/PN allergy at older ages, and different spectrum of TN/PN allergies (hazelnut followed by pistachio/cashew) that all indicate the consumption habits which are important determinants of TN/PN allergy development.

The sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus) is the largest odontocete occurring in the Greek Seas. However, monitoring thespecies’ spatiotemporal distribution patterns is especially difficult during the winter months when unfavorable weather conditionsoften hinder survey efforts. In the Greek Seas, visual cetacean surveys are typically not conducted between November and March. In a first attempt to collect year-round baseline information on sperm whale occurrence patterns in Greek waters, two Passive Aquatic Listeners (PALs) were deployed for 19 months, at Pylos Station (36.8 N, 21.6ο E) in the Hellenic Trench, and at Athos Station (40.0 N, 24.7ο E) in the North Aegean Trough. Results revealed the year-round presence of sperm whales at Pylos Station with a higher number of detections observed during late spring and throughout the summer. No sperm whale vocalizations were detected at Athos Station. An ambient sound level analysis revealed higher winter and lower summer levels at both sites largely driven by local weather conditions. Results showed that marine life in the Hellenic Trench area was exposed to higher low frequency (< 1 kHz) sound levels (by up to 10 dB re 1 μPa2/Hz). Ambient noise below 1 kHz is frequently dominated by anthropogenic sources including shipping. Ship strikes and noise disturbance constitute major threats for the small, genetically isolated, endangeredsperm whale population. The results of this study are useful for sperm whale conservation efforts in the region and may helppolicymakers in prioritizing mitigation measures, including the establishment of speed limits and rerouting of ship traffic.

Avrupa Topluluklarının kuruluş süreci 9 Mayıs 1950'de başlamıştır. 18 Nisan 1951 tarihli Paris Antlaşması ile Avrupa Kömür ve Çelik Topluluğu'nun kurulmasıyla resmen hayata geçmiştir. Devam eden süreçte 1957 yılında Roma Antlaşması ile Avrupa Ekonomik Topluluğu ve Avrupa Atom Enerjisi Topluluğu kurulmuştur. Kurulma sürecinde enerji kaynaklarını uluslarüstü bir komisyona taşıma felsefesi ile Avrupa barışını sağlamaya çalışan üye ülkeler bugün artan enerji ihtiyacı karşısında yine bir takım ekonomik ve politik kararlar alma noktasında görüş birliği içerisindedirler. Bu sebeple Avrupa Komisyonu Enerji Birliği'ne ilişkin eylem planı olan `Enerji Birliği Paketi` raporunu 25 Şubat 2015'te hazırlamıştır. Küresel enerji piyasaları açısından Güney Gaz Koridoru olarak nitelendirilen Trans-Anadolu Doğal Gaz Boru Hattı Projesi, Güney Kafkasya Boru Hattı ve Trans-Adriyatik Boru Hattı Projesi Avrupa Birliği için alternatif enerji tedarik yolları olarak öne çıkmaktadır. Ayrıca Doğu Akdeniz enerji kaynakları da Avrupa Birliği ülkelerinin ekonomik istikrarının devam etmesinde ve Türkiye'nin enerji probleminin çözülmesinde stratejik bir öneme sahiptir. Bu konuda bir diğer tartışma konusu ülkelerin münhasır ekonomik bölge açılımları olmuştur. Bu bağlamda Güney Kıbrıs Rum Yönetimi'nin tek taraflı olarak ilan ettiği münhasır ekonomik bölge kararı, 1982 Birleşmiş Milletler Deniz Hukuku Sözleşmesi'ne aykırıdır. Türkiye bu konuda Birleşmiş Milletler'e mektup yoluyla itirazda bulunmuştur. Bununla birlikte Türkiye Doğu Akdeniz sahası içerisinde bulunun (32˚16′18″D Boylamı Batısı ve 33˚40′K Enlemi Kuzeyi) alanın uluslararası hukuktan kaynaklanan meşru hak ve menfaatleri olduğunu belirtmiştir. Hatta bu alanın kendi deniz yetki alanı olduğunu çeşitli şekillerle ifade etmiş olması Kıbrıs'ı Doğu Akdeniz enerji sahası konusunda siyasi bir kriz merkezi haline getirmiştir.Çalışmanın son bölümünde 26 Avrupa Birliği ülkesini kapsayan ülkelerin panel veri analizi yapılmıştır. Seriler arasındaki durağanlığı test etmek amacıyla Levin Lin Chu birim kök testi uygulanmış ve bütün serilerin düzeyde [I(0)] durağan oldukları görülmüştür. Bu durumda seriler arasındaki etkileşimin boyutu, En Küçük Kareler yöntemlerinden biri ile tahmin edilmiştir. Açıklayıcı değişkenlerle bireysel etkilerin ilişkili olup olmadığı yani içsellik problemi, Hausman yöntemi ile test edilmiştir. Hausman test sonucunda belirlenen çift yönlü sabit etki modeli ile tahmin yapılmış ve her iki modelde elde edilen sonuçların pozitif ve istatistiki olarak anlamlı oldukları görülmüştür. Buna göre enerji tüketimi %1 arttığında ekonomik büyüme %0.52 artarken, doğal gaz hariç enerji tüketimi %1 arttığında ekonomik büyüme %0.67 oranında arttığı sonucuna varılmıştır. Bu doğrultuda çalışma Avrupa Birliği'nin enerji politikasındaki köklü değişimini ve Türkiye, Rusya, Azerbaycan ve Doğu Akdeniz'i kapsayan enerji denkleminin ülkelerin enerji politikalarına etkilerini ve bunlarla ilişkili faktörleri ortaya koymayı, Avrupa Birliği'nin toplam enerji tüketiminin ve doğal gaz hariç toplam enerji tüketiminin ekonomik büyüme üzerindeki etkisini karşılaştırarak araştırmayı amaçlamaktadır. The establishment of the European Communities began on 9 May 1950. With the Paris Treaty of 18 April 1951, the European Coal and Steel Community was established. The European Economic Community and the European Atomic Energy Community were established in 1957 by the Treaty of Rome. In the process of establishment, the member countries, which try to achieve European peace with the philosophy of transferring energy resources to a supranational commission, are in agreement today on the point of making economic and political decisions in the face of increasing energy needs. For this reason, the European Commission has prepared its action plan for the Energy Union on 25 February 2015.The Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline Project, the South Caucasus Pipeline and the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline Project, which are described as the Southern Gas Corridor in terms of global energy markets, stand out as alternative energy supply ways for the European Union. . In addition, in resolving the continuation of economic stability in the Eastern Mediterranean energy sources in European Union countries and Turkey's energy problem it has a strategic importance. Another topic of discussion on this issue has been the countries' exclusive economic zone expansions. In this context, the unilaterally declared economic zone decision of the Greek Cypriot Administration is in contradiction with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. Turkey has been appealed by letter to the United Nations in this regard. What's more, Turkey is located in the Eastern Mediterranean area (32˚16'18 `East Longitude's west and latitude of northern 33˚40'N) arising from the fields of international law stated that the legitimate rights and interests. The fact that this area has been expressed in various ways as its naval jurisdiction has made Cyprus a center of political crisis in the Eastern Mediterranean energy field.In the last part of the study, panel data analysis of 26 European Union countries was performed. Levin Lin Chu unit root test was applied to test the stasis between the series and all series were found to be stationary at the level [I(0)]. In this case, the extent of the interaction between the series was estimated by one of the Least Squares methods. Whether internal effects were related to explanatory variables or internality problem was tested with Hausman method. The Hausman test was estimated by using a bidirectional fixed effect model and the results obtained in both models were found to be positive and statistically significant. Accordingly, when energy consumption increased by 1%, economic growth increased by 0.52%, whereas when energy consumption excluding natural gas increased by 1%, economic growth increased by 0.67%.Investigate fundamental change in this direction in the study of European Union energy policy, Turkey, Russia, Azerbaijan and the Eastern Mediterranean, covering the impact of energy policies countries of the energy equation and to reveal the factors associated with them, the aim of the study is investigate the effect of total energy consumption of European Union and total energy consumption excluding natural gas and compare the impact on economic growth. 149

Oynadıkları birçok önemli rollere rağmen, bakteriler deniz biyojeokimyasal döngülerinin en az bilinen bileşenlerinden biridir. Tür kompozisyonunun zamansal dinamiklerini ve aktif metabolizmalarını tespit etmek için yeni genetik analizlerin gücü kullanılmış ve biyokimyasal ölçümler ile birleştirilmiştir. Topluluk dinamikleri, 16S rRNA amplikon dizileme yaklaşımı kullanılarak çalışılmıştır. Kuzey Doğu Akdeniz'deki izleme istasyonun (dip derinliği 200 m) farklı derinliklerinden bir yıl boyunca aylık aralıklarla örnekler toplanmıştır. Azot döngüsünden sorumlu olan genlerin mRNA ifadeleri metatranscriptomics yaklaşım kullanılarak mevsimsel olarak incelenmiştir. Toplamda, 2213 dizi varyantı gözlenmiştir ve bunların arasında Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes ve Cyanobacteria en fazla gözlenen filumlardır. En yüksek taksonomi seviyesinde, Pelagibacteriaceae familyasına ait SAR 11 kladının örneklerimizde oldukça baskındı olduğu ve ekotiplerinin dağılımının derinliklerinde farklılık gösterdiği görülmüştür. Clade Ia yüzey sularında daha baskın iken, Clade Ib daha derin sularda bulunmaktadır. Mevsimsellik bakteri topluğunun dinamiklerini en iyi açıklayan güç olarak görülmektedir. Prochlorococcus MIT 9313, sonbaharda yüzeyde Synechococcus CC9902'den dahabaskındır. Prochlorococcus MIT 9313 bölgemizde Derin Klorofil Maksimum oluşumuna daha fazla katkıda bulunmaktadır. Ek olarak, metatranskriptomiks sonuçları, çalışma bölgesinde azot fiksasyonunun baskın süreç olmadığını göstermiştir. Nitrospinae cinsi, derin sulardaki yüksek nitrat konsantrasyonlarından sorumludur. Bu çalışmada, bakterilerin Kuzey Doğu Akdeniz'in karbon ve azot döngüsünde oynadıkları önemli rolleri göstermiş bulunmaktayız. Despite the many important roles, they play, bacteria are one of the least known components of the marine biogeochemical cycles. In order to determine the temporal dynamics of the species composition, and active metabolisms playing significant roles in the nitrogen cycling we used the power of novel genetic analyses and integrate biochemical measurements. Community dynamics were studied using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing approach. Samples were collected with monthly intervals for one year from different depths of monitoring station (bottom depth 200 m) in the NE Mediterranean. mRNA expressions of genes that are responsible for nitrogen cycling were investigated seasonally using metatranscriptomics. In total, 2213 sequence variants were observed among which Proteobacteria, Bacteroidetes and Cyanobacteria were the mostly observed phylum. In the higher taxonomic level, SAR 11 clade belonging to Pelagibacteriaceae was highly dominant in our samples and its ecotypes show variation with depth. While Clade Ia more dominant in the surface waters, Clade Ib was abundant in the deeper waters. Seasonality found to be the main driver for patterns in bacterial communities. Prochlorococcus MIT 9313 was more abundant than Synechococcus CC9902 in the surface during fall. Prochlorococcus MIT 9313 contributes more to the formation of DCM in our region. Additionally, metatranscriptomics results showed that the nitrogen fixation is not the dominant process in the study region. Genus Nitrospinae are responsible for the high concentrations of nitrate in the deeper waters. We showed the importance of bacteria in the carbon and nitrogen cycling in the NE Mediterranean. 220

Orta Demir Çağı'nda Yakın Doğu'nun en etkin siyasal aktörü Assur İmparatorluğu Basra Körfezi'nden Mısır sınırına kadar geniş bir coğrafyaya hükmetmiştir. Bu dönemde Assur kralları yönünü batıya çevirmiş ve en yoğun politik ve kültürel ilişkiler Doğu Akdeniz coğrafyası ile yaşanmıştır. Bu bölgeye başta ekonomik nedenlerle sürekli askeri seferler düzenleyen krallar bunları yazılı olarak kayıt altına almışlardır. In the Middle Iron Age, the most influential political actor Assyrian empire of the Near East ruled a vast geography from the Persian Gulf to the Egyptian border. In this period, the Assyrian kings turned their direction to the west and the most intense political and cultural relations were experienced with the Eastern Mediterranean geography. The Assyrian kings were constructed to reflect the splendor of these written documents and created a visual record space that decorated the palaces with reliefs. International audience; We revisit the nature, structure, and evolution of the Ionian Basin and its surrounding passive margins (Apulia, Eastern Sicily/Malta, and Cyrenaica margins). Relying on geological observations (wells, dredges, and dives) and seismic calibrations from the surrounding platforms and escarpments, we present age correlations for the deepest sedimentary sequences of the Ionian Basin. Two-ship deep refraction seismic data combined with reprocessed reflection seismic data enable us to identify, characterize, and map these thick sedimentary sequences and to present a consistent seismic stratigraphy across the basin. At a larger scale, we present new geological transects illustrating the tectonostratigraphic relationships between the Ionian Basin and its surrounding rifted margins. On this basis, we suggest that a Late Triassic-Early Jurassic rifting preceded the late Early Jurassic to Middle Jurassic formation of the Ionian Basin. The combination of geophysical and geological arguments suggests that the entire deep basin is floored with oceanic crust of normal thickness, but with high seismic velocity in the upper part. Upscaling our results in the framework of the eastern Mediterranean, we propose that the Ionian Basin represents the remnant of a short-lived oceanic basin resulting from the interaction between two propagating oceans: the Central Atlantic and the Neo-Tethys.

Bu çalışma, İkinci Dünya Savaşı sonrasından günümüze kadar geçen zaman diliminde Sovyet Sosyalist Cumhuriyetler Birliği ve Rusya Federasyonu dönemlerinin Doğu Akdeniz'deki Rus dış politikalarını incelemektedir.Çalışmada öncelikle Doğu Akdeniz Bölgesi'nin jeopolitik ve jeostratejik konumu ele alınmış, enerji kaynakları konusunda açıklamalar getirilmiştir. Rus politikalarının temelini oluşturan doktrinlerin içeriklerinden bahsedilmiş ve karşılaştırmalar yapılmıştır. İncelenen bölge hakkında bilgi sahibi olunmuş ve politik hareketlerin dayanak noktası da ortaya konulduktan sonra, Doğu Akdeniz'deki Rus politikaları ve bölge krizleri hakkında incelemeler yapılmıştır. Tüm bu incelemelerin yol göstericiliğinde Rus siyasetinde Doğu Akdeniz'in geçmişten günümüze artan önemi ortaya konmuştur.Sovyetler Birliği döneminde Arap-İsrail savaşları bölgeye damgasını vurmuş ve iki kutuplu dünya düzeninin aktörlerini bölgede karşı karşıya getirmişti. Bu bağlamda söz konusu savaşların Doğu Akdeniz'e etkileri ve Rus politikalarını nasıl yönlerdirdiği incelenmiştir. Rusya Federasyonu döneminde ise Rusya'nın fiili olarak Suriye İç Savaşı'na müdahalesi ve beraberinde getirdiği sonuçlar inceleme konuları arasında yer almıştır.Soğuk Savaş Dönemi'nde Sovyetler Birliği'nin Doğu Akdeniz ülkelerindeki komünist parti aktiviteleri de önem arz ettiği için çalışmada bu konuya da değinilmiştir. This study examines the Russian foreign policy in the Eastern Mediterranean in the period of the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation since the end of the Second World War to the present.Firstly, the geopolitical and geostrategic position of the Eastern Mediterranean Region has been mentioned and energy sources are explained. The contents of the doctrines that form the basis of Russian policies were mentioned and doctrinal comparisons were made. After explaining the basic point of political movements, Russian policies and regional crises in the Eastern Mediterranean were examined. In the guidance of all these studies, the increasing importance of the Eastern Mediterranean from the past to the present in Russian politics has been demonstrated.During the Soviet Union, the Arab-Israeli wars marked the region and carried the actors of the bipolar world order into conflict in the region. The impacts of these wars on the Eastern Mediterranean and how it orientates Russian policies are examined. In the period of the Russian Federation, Russia's intervention in the Syrian Civil War and its results were perused in the study.During the Cold War, communist party activities on the Eastern Mediterranean countries of the Soviet Union were also important. The intelligence reports which are used in these studies also increase the value of the review.This study examined the post-World War II Russian Foreign Policy in three main chapters including subheadings. 199

Enerji ihtiyacını tetikleyen en temel tarihsel gelişme olan sanayi devriminden bu yana enerjinin her zaman çatışmaya yol açan yapısı günümüzde de devam etmektedir. Türkiye gibi ithal fosil enerji kaynaklarına bağımlı ülkelerde enerji güvenliğinin çatışmalara müsait yapısı daha çok hissedilmektedir. Enerjinin böylesi yüksek bir değer taşıdığı, enerji güvenliğinin ise devletler için kilit konumda bulunduğu bir ortamda Türkiye'nin de parçası olduğu Doğu Akdeniz'deki hidrokarbon rezervleri ve bunların Türkiye enerji güvenliğine etkileri tez çalışmamızın temelini oluşturmuştur.Tez çalışmamızın üzerine kurulduğu esaslardan birincisi, güncel olarak kapitalist sistemin uygulandığı küreselleşme süreci içinde güvenlik olgusunun, uluslararası güvenlik yaklaşımları çerçevesinde anlaşılmasıdır. İkincisi, uluslararası güvenlik olgusunun enerji güvenliği boyutu üzerinden, Türkiye'nin enerji güvenliğinin incelenmesidir. Temel alınan üçüncü esas ise, Doğu Akdeniz'de keşfedilen hidrokarbonların Türkiye'nin enerji güvenliğine herhangi bir etkisinin olup olmadığının incelenmesidir. Bahsettiğimiz bu 3 temel esas üzerine kurguladığımız tezimizin ilk bölümünde güvenlik, küreselleşme, uluslararası güvenlik, uluslararası iş birliği kurumları gibi konular uluslararası güvenlik yaklaşımları üzerinden kavramsal olarak tartışılmıştır. İkinci bölümünde, enerji güvenliği konusu, tarihsel gelişim sürecinden bu yana kavramsal olarak tartışılmış ve Türkiye'nin mevcut enerji görünümü, güncel veriler esas alınarak somut bağlamda ele alınmıştır. Since the industrial revolution that is the most basic historical development causing energy demand, always conflict making structure of energy is still going on. Suitable structure of energy security for conflicts are more pronounced on imported fossil energy resource dependent countries like Turkey. Where an Energy carries such a high value, and has been in essential point, east Mediterranean hydrocarbon reserves and effect of these over Turkey's energy security has been the basis of our thesis.First of the principles on which our thesis was founded, is to understand the concept of security within the framework of the globalization process in which the capitalist system is currently applied under the international security approaches. Second is an examination of Turkey's energy security through energy security dimension of international security cases. The third basis is to examine whether there is an effect on Turkey's energy security of the discovery of hydrocarbons in the eastern Mediterranean.Our thesis is based on these three basic principles. In the first part, issues such as security, globalization, international security, international cooperation institutions are discussed conceptually through international security approaches. In the second part of the thesis, the issue of energy security has been conceptually discussed since the historical development process, Turkey's current energy outlook are discussed with current data in the present context basis. In the last chapter, the current development of the conflict in the Eastern Mediterranean, which is exacerbated by energy discoveries, has been described, Turkey's position in this conflict have tried to be observed and finally, with the recent data obtained through Turkey's future natural gas consumption projection, the effect of Eastern Mediterranean hydrocarbon reserves on the Turkey's energy security were discussed.As a result of this study, the conceptual dimension and the current conditions are connected and indicated some steps that Turkey must be taken in the context of energy security. Tarihsel süreç açısından bakıldığında enerji kaynakları ülkeler arasında ekonomilerin temelini oluşturmaktadır. Dünya ekonomisini temel alan enerji kaynakları tarihte pek çok savaşa da sebep olan başrol konumunu üstlenmektedir. Dünya'daki enerji kaynaklarının giderek azalması da bunun göstergesi olarak ortaya çıkmaktadır. Enerji kaynakları insan yaşamında temel gereksinimlerin başında gelmektedir. Bu açıdan bakıldığında böyle bir temel gereksinimin giderek azalması da aslına bakıldığında çok şaşırtıcı bir durum değildir. Üretim sürecinin devamlılığı bir ülkenin enerji üretimine bağlıdır. Ülkelerin gücü elinde bulundurması alternatif enerji kaynaklarının kullanımına yönelmesi olağan sonuçlar arasında yer alır. Stratejik ve Jeopolitik konumu açısından büyük öneme sahip ülkeler dünya ülkeleri arasında her iki tarafın işini kolaylaştırmak adına değerlendirilmektedir. Those countries which have great importance in terms of strategic and geopolitic location are evaluated to facilitate the work of both sides in the global World. Doğu Akdeniz'de önemli bir yere sahip olan ve Osmanlı'nın fethinden sonra da bu önemini koruyan Kıbrıs'ta, Osmanlı hâkimiyetinin sağlanması, adanın şenlendirilmesi ve ekonomik yönden geliştirilmesi için gerekli tedbirler alınmıştır. Osmanlılar bir yörede, ilk fethin hemen ardından çeşitli vesileler ile tahrir yaparlardı. Osmanlı belgelerinde tahririn amacı, bölgedeki reayanın oturduğu yerler ve işlerinin özelliklerini, mallarının ve ürünlerinin kaynaklarını hükümdarın yani devletin bilmesi olarak belirtilir. Osmanlılar fetihten hemen sonra 1572 yılında Kıbrıs'ta bir tahrir gerçekleştirdiler. İlgili tahrir sonrasında oluşturulan defter, bugün Kuyud-ı Kadime (Tapu ve Kadastro Genel Müdürlüğü) Arşivi'nde saklanan 64 Numaralı Kıbrıs Tahrir Defteri'dir. Çalışmamızda adı geçen bu defter transkibe edilmiştir ve söz konusu defterdeki verilere dayanarak Mesarya nahiyesinin sosyal ve ekonomik hayatı anlatılmaya çalışılmıştır. Cyprus had an important position in the Eastern Mediterranean and it maintained its importance after the Ottoman conquest. The Ottomans took measures, so that Cyprus economy could improve and firstly, they wrote whole income sources of Cyprus. This implementation was called as tahrir system. The Cyprus Tahrir Register numbered 64 was made in 1572. Now it has been saved in Kuyud-ı Kadime Archives in Ankara. The Cyprus Tahrir Register has contained social and economic data of Cyprus in 1572. In this study, the mentioned register's data was translated and the social and economic life of Mesarya district was tried to be evaluated. 121

Stratejik önemi ve tartışmalı statüsü ile Doğu Akdeniz jeopolitiğinde ciddi bir gündem maddesi teşkil eden Kıbrıs, bölge ülkelerinin Ada civarında keşfedilen hidrokarbon kaynaklarına yönelik politikaları çerçevesinde yoğunluğu gittikçe artan tartışmalara konu olmaktadır. Bölge devletlerinin Ada çevresindeki hidrokarbon enerji kaynaklarına yönelik jeopolitik yaklaşımları, Doğu Akdeniz'in deniz yetki alanlarının paylaşımında belirsizliğe neden olmakta ve kritik hassasiyetler üzerine kurulu barışı ve güvenliği tehdit ederek gerek bölgesel gerekse küresel anlamda riskler arz etmektedir. Yapıcı ve barışçıl siyasi yaklaşımların göz ardı edilmesi durumunda, Doğu Akdeniz'deki söz konusu gerginliğin bölge ile sınırlı kalmayıp küresel boyuta ulaşabilecek nitelikte kriz ve çatışmalara sahne olabileceğini söylemek mümkündür. Bu ortamda Kıbrıs'ın tartışmalı statüsü ve Ada'nın Münhasır Ekonomik Bölgesi'nde (MEB) Güney Kıbrıs Rum Yönetimi'nin (GKRY) tek taraflı doğalgaz arama ve işletim ruhsatı vermesi, bölge ülkeleri arasında sorunlar yaşanmasına ve hâlihazırdaki ihtilafların gittikçe karmaşıklaşmasına sebep olmaktadır. Kıbrıs'ın statüsünün, Doğu Akdeniz'deki MEB ilan ve antlaşmalarının, Kıbrıs Adası MEB'indeki doğalgaz rezervlerinin ve verilen doğalgaz işletim ruhsatlarının, Doğu Akdeniz'de Kıbrıs özelinde doğalgaz sorunu yaşanmasına sebebiyet vermesi bu çalışmanın hipotezini teşkil etmektedir. Bu çerçevede, Doğu Akdeniz Devletlerinin Kıbrıs özelindeki doğalgaz varlığına yönelik siyasi yaklaşımlarının bir taraftan çıkar odaklı geleneksel güvenlik yaklaşımıyla analiz edilmesi diğer taraftan da uluslararası hukuk kuralları paralelinde Normatif bir yaklaşım çerçevesinde değerlendirilmesiyle literatürdeki önemli bir eksikliğin giderilmesi hedeflenmektedir. Her geçen gün artan enerji ihtiyacı, bir yandan bölge devletlerinin birbirleriyle deniz yetki alanlarında işbirliği yapmasına ve enerji ihalelerinin çok uluslu şirketlerin oluşturduğu konsorsiyumlara verilmesiyle küresel işbirliği ortamının şekillenmesine imkân sağlamaktadır. Diğer taraftan ise, gerek bölge devletlerinin gerekse küresel güçlerin izlediği güç maksimizasyonu temelli politikalar, Doğu Akdeniz'in barış ortamına istikrarsızlaştırıcı yönde bir etkide bulunmaktadır. Sonuç olarak; Kıbrıs özelindeki doğalgaz varlığına yönelik olarak bölgede yer alan devletler ile küresel güçlerin ya Normatif bir yaklaşımla dünya barışına katkı sağlayacağı, ya da Realist bir yaklaşım çerçevesinde daha fazla güç arayışı ile bölgede çatışma riskini artırabileceğini söylemek mümkündür. With its strategic importance and controversial status, Cyprus is a serious agenda item in the Eastern Mediterranean geopolitics and is increasingly subject to controversy over its policies towards hydrocarbon resources discovered around the island. The geopolitical approaches of the regional states towards hydrocarbon energy sources around the island cause uncertainty in the sharing of the maritime jurisdictions of the Eastern Mediterranean and pose risks both regionally and globally by threatening the peace and security established on critical sensitivities. It is possible to say that if the constructive and peaceful political approaches are ignored, the tension in the Eastern Mediterranean may be the scene of crisis and conflicts that are not limited to the region but which can reach the global dimension. The controversial status of Cyprus in this environment and the unilateral natural gas exploration and operation license of the Greek Cypriot in the Island's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) cause problems between the countries in the region and the current conflicts become increasingly complex.This study's hypothesis is that the status of Cyprus, the EEZ proclamations and treaties in the Eastern Mediterranean, the natural gas reserves of the Cyprus' EEZ and the natural gas operating licenses issued in the Eastern Mediterranean, lead to a natural gas problem in the Eastern Mediterranean. In this context, it is aimed to analyze the political approaches of the Eastern Mediterranean States towards the natural gas presence in Cyprus with an interest-oriented traditional security approach and to eliminate a significant deficiency in the literature with a normative approach in line with the rules of international law.The ever-increasing energy need enables the regional states to cooperate with each other in maritime jurisdictions and to form a global cooperation environment by granting energy tenders to multinational consortia. On the other hand, the policies based on power maximization followed by both the regional states and the global powers have a destabilizing effect on the peace environment of the Eastern Mediterranean. Hatay İli Asi Deltası ve Samandağ Körfezi yakınlarındaki sahil şeridinde MÖ 8. yüzyılda aktif olarak kullanıldığı düşünülen Al Mina Limanı 1936-1937 yılında gerçekleştirilen kazılar sonucunda özellikle arkeolojik envanter açısından değerlendirilebilmiştir. Yine bu coğrafyada gerçekleştirilen arkeolojik kazılar limanın Geç Tunç Çağı’nda da ticarî faaliyetlerde kullanıldığı iddiasını desteklemiştir. Buradan ele geçen arkeolojik bulgular arasında yer alan lüks tüketime özel mallar ve ithal eşyalardaki çeşitlilik Al Mina’nın limanlar arasında önemli bir ticaret ağının merkez istasyonu olabileceği yönünde yorumlanmıştır. Al Mina’nın lokalizasyon çalışmalarını olanaklı kılan kısıtlı filolojik kayıtlar, bölgenin Mitanni, Asur, Babil ve Pers egemenliğinin ardından Hellenistik Dönemde de işlevsel bir liman olarak kullanıldığını belgelemiştir. Bu çalışmada, Anadolu, Batı Anadolu kıyıları, Mısır, Doğu Akdeniz kent devletleri, Suriye ve kıta Yunanistan arasındaki ticarete ve ticaretle gelişen kültürel etkileşime tanıklık etmiş Al Mina Limanı’nın yazılı ve arkeolojik verilerle değerlendirilmesi amaçlanmıştır., Al Mina Port, which near the coastline Hatay Province Asi Delta and Samandağ Gulf was thought to be actively used in the 8th century BCE, could be evaluated especially in terms of archaeological inventory as a result of the excavations carried out in 1936-1937. Archaeological excavations in this region also supported the claim that the harbor was used for commercial activities in the Late Bronze Age. Among the archaeological findings uncovered here, the diversity in luxury goods and imported goods was interpreted to suggest that Al Mina could be the central station of an important trade network between ports. The limited philological records that enable the localization studies of Al Mina have documented that the region was used as a functional port in the Hellenistic period after the reign of Mitanni, Assyria, Babylon and Persia. In this paper, it is aimed to evaluate the port of Al Mina which has witnessed the trade and cultural interaction between Anatolia, Western Anatolia coasts, Egypt, Eastern Mediterranean city states, Syria and continental Greece with written and archaeological data.

“Democracy in Crisis,” the title of the 2018 Freedom house data warns against the declining political rights and civil liberties in the world politics. Following the global pattern the countries of the East Mediterranean region has the average score of 41.5 out of 100 (see the Fig. 1 below for regional and country specific scores). What distinguishes the region from others, however, is the incredibly uneven scores and the concerning decline. On the one hand, the current situation in Syria introduced a rare rating of negative one, on the other hand the relatively high scores of Israel and Greece and designation as “free,” do not eliminate the concerns regarding declining some liberties and freedom. For instance, Israel’s civil liberties score declined because of new legislation aimed at tightening restrictions on critical nongovernmental organizations and denying them access to international support.

Doğu Akdeniz ( Levant) hem coğrafi konumu hem de elverişli toprakları sebebiyle talihin en eski dönemlerinden beri mühim bir ticaret merkezi olmuştur. Bu sebeple talihin her döneminde birçok medeniyet tarafından ilgi odağı olmuştur. XI. yüzyılın sonlarına doğru Doğu'ya yapılan Haçlı Seferleri ile birlikte Doğu-Batı arasındaki ticari faaliyetler gelişmiştir. Latinler ( Venedikliler, Cenovalılar, Pisalılar ve Amalfıliler) iaşe ve asker naklederek Haçlılara yardım etmişlerdir. Karşılığında ise Haçlıların ele geçirdikleri bölgelerde ticari faaliyetleri yürütmüşlerdir. Bölgeye hâkim olan Selçuklular, Eyyûbîler ve Memlûkler İle Haçlılar arasında yapılan savaş ticaret engel olmamıştır. Söz konusu İslâm devletleri ile Haçlılar arasında birçok ticaret anlaşması yapılmıştır. Bununla birlikte iki asır aynı coğrafyayı paylaşan Haçlılar ve Müslümanlar arasında kültürel etkileşim meydana gelmiştir. Ticaret, Latinler, Kültürel Etkileşim The Eastern Mediterranean ( Levant) has been a commercial center since the most ancient yimes of history due to both itsgeographical locationand convenient lands.That is why it has been the focus of attention by many civilizations in every period of history. Towards the end of the 11 th century, with the Crusades to the East, commercial activities between East and West have developed. The Latins ( Venetians, Genoese, Pisans and Amalfıans ) helped the Crusaders by transporting subsistence and soldiers. In return, they carried out commercial activities in the areas conquered by the Crusaders. The war between the Seljuks, the Ayyubs, the Mamluks who dominated the region, and the Crusaders did not hinder the commercial activities. Many trade agreements have been made the Islamic stats and the Crusaders. At the same time, cultural interaction has occurred betvveen the Crusaders and Muslims due to the sharingof the same area. XIX. yüzyıl Osmanlı İmparatorluğu için pek çok açıdan değişimler yüzyılıdır. Endüstri Devrimi'nden sonra Avrupa'da gerçekleştirilen buharlı gemi ve demiryolu taşımacılığı gibi teknolojik gelişmeler, Osmanlı topraklarını ve elbette Doğu Akdeniz limanlarını Avrupalı tüccar ve girişimciler için bir cazibe merkezine dönüştürmüştür. Dahası, 1838 Balta Limanı Antlaşması ile benimsenen gümrük politikası, Avrupa ile ticaret hacmini neredeyse altı katına çıkarmıştır. Artan ticaret hacmini karşılayamayan Doğu Akdeniz limanları 1860'larda yabancı sermaye veya Levantenler tarafından revize edilmiş ve özelleştirilmiştir. Beyrut Limanı da modernleştirilen ve özelleştirilen limanlardan biridir. 1860 yılında Cebel-i Lübnan olaylarından sonra çatışmalardan ve gerçekleştirilen bombardımanlardan etkilenen şehir için yeni bir rıhtım inşası zorunlu bir hal almıştır. Nihayet Nafia Nezareti tarafından düzenlenen bir ihale neticesinde Beyrutlu bir Maruni olan Yusuf Matran Efendi, yeni rıhtım ve antrepolar tesis edilmesi ve bir anonim şirket kurulması şartıyla ihaleyi kazanmış ve 3 Temmuz 1887 tarihinde imzalanan şartname ile yeni bir limanın inşasına başlanmıştır. Bu sayede Beyrut'ta liman ticareti ve denetim mekanizmasın anonim bir teşebbüsün eline geçmiştir. Bunun akabinde Beyrut Limanı'nda yeni depo ve antrepolar inşa edilmiş ve ticaret hacmi daha da artmıştır. Özellikle Avrupa ile olan deniz ticaretinde kent, Doğu Akdeniz'in en önemli limanı haline gelmiştir. In many respects, the Ottoman Empire experienced significant changes in the nineteenth century. Especially, after the Industrial Revolution, and its technological breakthroughs such as steamships and railway transportation, the Ottoman lands and the Eastern Mediterranean ports become center of attraction for European merchants and entrepreneurs. Furthermore, as a result of the Treaty of Balta Liman (the 1838 Anglo-Turkish Trade Agreement) and its principles of customs duty, trading volume between the Ottoman Empire and Europe increased almost six times. For this reason, in the 1860s, the Eastern Mediterranean ports which were still insufficient for this volume were revised and privatized by foreign capital and Levantines. The Port of Beirut was also one of the ports which was modernised and privatized. After the 1860 Mount Lebanon civil war, there was huge necessity to built new quays for the city that were badly affected by conflicts and several bombards. Eventually, by Nafia Nezareti (Ministry on Public Works), Yusuf Matran Efendi who was a Maronite-Ottoman from Beirut was awarded the contract for building new quays and establishing a join-stock company. In this manner, maritime trade and its control mechanism was taken over by a private enterprise. On 3 July 1887, Yusuf Matran and his shareholders began construction and after the end of the construction, the port of Beirut become the most important port of the Eastern Mediterranean with its new quays and warehouses. 142

Summary During the last decade, the exploration targets offshore Egypt have moved subsalt. Messinian salt is a complex interval that changes its character going from West to East Mediterranean. Existing seismic data was not able to properly capture the pre-Messinian targets. We have used the available seismic and the non-seismic data to build the representative 3D Earth model, incorporating typical challenges offshore Egypt. 3D Finite Difference modeling was used to simulate different acquisition approaches. Based on the modeling results, further in this abstract we will show the best acquisition approaches to illuminate subsalt. Moreover we will examine the impact of the broadband seismic data as well as the impact of surface and internal multiples, inaccurate velocity models and absorption on the image below the salt.

The genus Trichactia Stein, 1924 (Diptera: Tachinidae) is newly recorded from Iran and its Palaearctic species are reviewed. The new species Trichactia meridiana Ziegler & Gilasian, sp. nov. is described from Iran and the East Mediterranean. An identification key to the three known Palaearctic species of Trichactia, photographs of all species and illustrations of their male terminalia are provided. Intraspecific variation between different geographical populations of T. meridiana sp. nov. is discussed.
