Comcast filed a lawsuit against Starz Encore Group in an attempt to get Starz to follow an affiliation agreement it had made with Comcast, instead of a contract it had made with AT and T Broadband, which is presently part of Comcast. Comcast alleges that Starz's programming should be now distributed according to Comcast's terms.

An arbitration panel has ordered Ontario Hydro to pay Denison Mines Ltd. $30 million in severance costs. The amount, however, is nowhere near the $400 million that Denison sought for its uranium-supply contract loss. The payment is also not enough to repay Denison's debt obligation of about $95 million or to cover the $65-million environmental cost of decommissioning its uranium mines. Denison has also been told to pay Ontario Hydro's legal costs.

A lower court decision in Dubai, United Arab Emirates involving a controversial termination of an insurance agency by a foreign insurance company was upheld by the Dubai Court of Appeal on April 30, 1997. The Dubai Court of Appeal argues that upholding the lower court's decision was based on a reason that a foreign insurance company has the right to terminate a contract with a local insurance agency if that agent acts on behalf of the foreign company's interest without its consent.
