In conditions of the current development of society which is characterized by mounting social, economic and political crises, the problem of destructive behavior of an individual acquires special significance and topicality. The paper presents the results of a theoretical and methodological analysis of this problem in foreign and domestic literature in several areas: analysis of the attitude of society towards destructive behavior in its historical aspect; philosophical and theological approach; sociological and demographic areas in the study of destructive behavior, biological and biochemical; genetic approaches; psychological and sociopsychological aspects in the study of destructive behavior of a person. In view of the analysis of various approaches and areas in the study of destructive behavior, the conclusions have been drawn that destructive behavior is represented as a complex phenomenon, caused by biological factors (genetic predisposition, constitutional features of the body structure, the use of psychoactive substances, etc.), social (economic and social crises ), psychopathological (connection with mental disorders), psychological (especially the system of needs and motives of activity), socio-psychological (the impact of socio-psychological maladaptation and characteristics of the values and meaning sphere of an individual) plans. These factors are interconnected and each of them has its own specific role in the complex of destructive behavior, and therefore it is impossible to obtain a holistic view of the phenomenon under consideration taken separately from the entire system of interconnected components.

Limited research exists on special education teachers (SETs) of students with intellectual disability (ID), developmental delay (DD), and/or autism spectrum disorder (ASD), their intent to leave or stay in the teaching profession, and the working conditions impacting those decisions. Through an online survey, we investigated working conditions of SETs who teach students with ID, DD, and ASD and their career intent, with attention to teacher demographic characteristics. Our investigation (n = 564) found Black/African American, Asian, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander SETs of students with ID, DD, or ASD reported higher intent to leave, as well as male SETs, compared to White SETs. Other differences are reported between groups. Results emphasize a need to focus on ways to retain SETs from underrepresented groups. Implications for practice and research related to working conditions are discussed.

This study investigated the effect of teachers' length of time spent with students on teacher ratings on the Behavioral Intervention Monitoring and Assessment System (BIMAS; McDougal et al., 2011). The BIMAS is a comprehensive measure of behavioral concerns related to conduct, negative affect, and cognitive processing/attention domains as well as strengths in the areas of social and academic functioning. A multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) of the BIMAS normative database (N = 1938) which included both non-clinical (n = 1400) and clinical samples (n = 538) revealed significant differences in teacher ratings of students between the ages of 5 and 18 across groups of teachers having known their students for varying amounts of time on all five domains measured on the BIMAS, with small to medium effect sizes. Post hoc tests revealed that in general, teachers who had known their students longer reported fewer behavioral problems in relation to conduct, negative emotions, and cognitive processing/attention as well as more strengths related to social skills and learning. These significant differences across all five BIMAS scales remained even when student demographic variables such as gender, age, ethnicity, and clinical status were controlled for. For African American and Hispanic students, behavioral concerns and deficits in adaptive skills in teacher ratings were more pronounced for groups with the least time spent with the student, compared to ratings completed by teachers with the most time spent with students. Discussion addresses potential explanations for these findings as well as implications for universal screening and progress monitoring in a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSSs).

Even prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, online learning had become a fundamental part of post-secondary education. At the same time, empirical evidence from the last decade documents higher dropout online in comparison to face-to-face courses for some students. Thus, while online learning may provide students access to post-secondary education, concerns about academic momentum and degree attainment dominate the higher education online learning landscape. Because course completion is often used as a measure of effectiveness, there is a strong need for institutions to be able to predict the potential persistence of online students to direct efforts towards ameliorating dropout. Yet currently, a widely tested and validated archetypical predictive model of retention and success does not exist for undergraduate online learning. This integrative review of the literature examines evidence gathered over the last decade, organizing and summarizing major findings, to help identify potential undergraduate student characteristics for inclusion in such a model. The body of literature collected in this review suggests ten factors for consideration.

After years of steady growth and a pandemic-related explosion, online learning has become a common format for college courses. This shift has helped institutions by keeping the virtual door open during emergencies, broadening their pool of potential students, and decreasing brick-and-mortar operating costs. We know less, however, about how online learning affects student learning. While prior research has found negative or mixed effects, these are based on self-selected groups of students. College students typically choose their institution and course of study, including whether they take some or all of their classes online. This study is the exception, studying the United States Military Academy West Point, a unique institution established to educate future Army officers, where students have little control over their class schedules. More than 80 percent of the academic program is standard across all majors, and coursework is identical across instructors, who follow a unified curriculum with the same materials and graded events. These unique attributes allowed the authors to conduct a randomized controlled experiment during the fall 2020 semester, when West Point brought students back to campus but also used online instruction to limit class sizes, maintain social distancing, and slow the spread of COVID-19. The study compares coursework, grades, and results of a post-course survey among 551 students who were randomly assigned to online and in-person sections of Principles of Economics, a required class that most students take their sophomore year. The study finds that student learning, focus, and engagement suffer when instruction moves online. When the ways that West Point differs from traditional colleges and universities are considered, the findings are concerning. If online learning has negative effects at West Point, where students are among the nation's most disciplined young people, what does that mean for the typical student?

Using the Theory of Social Representations as a theoretical and methodological framework, the purpose of this study was to describe children's representations of music, musical identities, and musical engagement across middle childhood. Participants were primary students aged 8 to 11 (N = 132) from four schools in a large city in the Southeastern United States. Previous studies have documented that projective techniques (linguistic associations with textual stimuli) can access latent dimensions of thinking. Accordingly, linguistic associations with the textual stimuli "music," "music and me," music at school," and "music outside school" were used to gain insight into children's representations of music, musical identities, and musical engagement. Participants were also asked to provide socio-demographic data that might influence their responses. The Correspondences Analysis technique was used to reconstruct representational fields associated with the stimuli. For each stimulus, a three-factor extraction identified hidden dimensions in children's linguistic responses and summarized the links between contextual variables and children's representations. Major findings suggest that children at increasingly younger ages express preferences and construct their own representations of music and musical identities.

In this article, we report on a typology of the demands of statistical and mathematical products (StaMPs) embedded in media items related to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic. The typology emerged from a content analysis of a large purposive sample of diverse media items selected from digital news sources based in four countries. The findings encompass nine categories of StaMPs: (1) descriptive quantitative information; (2) models, predictions, causality and risk; (3) representations and displays; (4) data quality and strength of evidence; (5) demographics and comparative thinking; (6) heterogeneity and contextual factors; (7) literacy and language demands; (8) multiple information sources; and (9) critical demands. We illustrate these categories via selected media items, substantiate them through relevant research literature, and point to categories that encompass new or enhanced types of demands. Our findings offer insights into the rich set of capabilities that citizens (including both young people and adults) must possess in order to engage these mass media demands, critically analyze statistical and mathematical information in the media, evaluate the meaning and credibility of news reports, understand public policies, and make evidenced-informed judgments. Our conclusions point to the need to revise current curricular frameworks and conceptual models (e.g., regarding statistical and probability literacy, adult numeracy), to better incorporate notions such as blended knowledge, vagueness, risk, strength of evidence, and criticality. Furthermore, more attention is needed to the literacy and language demands of media items involving statistical and mathematical information. Implications for further research and educational practice are discussed.

Retention and persistence to graduation have been concerns for colleges and universities across the country. Research has pointed to sociodemographic and economic factors that affect persistence. Our analyses isolate the relationship between advising appointments and the likelihood of persistence controlling for the possibility of an endogenous relationship and while controlling for sociodemographic and academic performance covariates. Using data from one college in a large, public university, we found that students enrolled in Spring 2018 who met with an advisor one or more times in January through August 2018 were 9% more likely to persist and enroll in Fall 2018 than otherwise similar students who did not visit an advisor at all during that period.

Autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder are neurodevelopmental disorders with high rates of co-occurrence. However, there is a dearth of large, nationally representative studies examining the prevalence of co-occurring autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder among children. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence of parent-reported co-occurring autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder in the United States and examine correlates of co-occurring autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder by sociodemographic and household factors. Data were analyzed from the 2016-2018 National Survey of Children's Health. A total of 88,051 children aged 3-17 years were included in the analysis. Bivariate and multivariable analyses were conducted to assess the associations between sociodemographic and household characteristics and current co-occurrence of autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. An estimated 1.2% of children (740,816) aged 3-17 years had co-occurring autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Sex, age, race/ethnicity, health status, and health insurance were associated with having co-occurring autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder. Children who were Black, non-Hispanic (adjusted odds ratio = 0.63; 95% confidence interval [0.40, 0.99]) or multi-racial/other, non-Hispanic (adjusted odds ratio = 0.58; 95% confidence interval [0.42, 0.80]) had significantly lower odds of co-occurring autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder than White non-Hispanics. Findings suggest implementing early developmental screening and surveillance for co-occurring autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder and coordinating strategies that optimize early identification and intervention for all children suspected of having co-occurring autism spectrum disorder and attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, particularly those from underrepresented groups.

The Early College Initiative (ECI) high schools in New York City provide opportunities to take college-credit courses up to the equivalent of an associate's degree while in high school. In this study, we measure the association between attending an ECI high school and college persistence. Our sample is the 3,271 students who graduated from New York City public high schools in the ECI network between Fall 2006 and Fall 2013 and enrolled in college. We use survival analysis to measure the relationship between demographic, academic, and behavioral risk factors and persistence of ECI graduates. We find that Black and Latinx students are as likely as White students to persist, when both high school achievement and behavioral factors, such as attendance, are taken into account. Differences in persistence do exist by gender with young women more likely to persist when compared with young men. This study provides empirical evidence that attending early college high schools has the potential to narrow racial and ethnic gaps in postsecondary outcomes.

Objective: Seasonal influenza is a preventable disease that may cause high morbidity and mortality. In the USA, the 2020 influenza season overlapped with the first wave of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. There is a dearth of research on understanding influenza vaccination uptake and attitudes towards the vaccine among marginalised communities in the USA. The aim of this study was to examine general knowledge, misconceptions about, and barriers to influenza vaccination and determine if flu education delivered via trusted messengers improved knowledge among Asian Americans. Design: Quantitative prospective pre- and post-test design. Setting: Asian American communities in Metro Detroit area, Hamtramck, and Kent County in Michigan. Method: The study started with a training event in which 26 community leaders were trained to become trusted messengers to disseminate flu education. A total of 260 Asian American participants subsequently completed pre- and post-education surveys. Results: Asian Americans in the study reported low flu vaccination rate (48.5%). Reasons varied but included access-related issues (e.g. no access and no insurance) and health literacy (did not know they needed it). After education by trusted messengers, the paired "t" tests measuring improvement between pre- and post-survey scores showed a significant improvement (p < 0.05) for all of the knowledge items. Conclusion: Educational campaigns using targeted messages to address specific barriers and acknowledge individuals' concerns regarding misconceptions while providing equitable vaccine access can be key for the successful implementation of vaccination programmes.

There is a widely variable breadth of coverage of skeletal muscle content across both undergraduate human anatomy and undergraduate anatomy and physiology (A&P) courses. In response to the need for a more global understanding of the content taught in undergraduate anatomy courses, we developed an online survey (administered through Qualtrics) where both human anatomy and A&P faculty could report skeletal muscle coverage in their courses. The survey also collected comparative demographic institutional data such as the type of institution (community college vs. 4 year), course format, and geographic location of the undergraduate institution. Skeletal muscles surveyed included those listed and described in a typical undergraduate human anatomy text (McKinley MP, O'Loughlin VD, Pennefather O. "Human Anatomy" (5th ed.), 2017, p. 960). The data indicated some interesting instructional trends regarding muscular system coverage. First, both the "identification" and "action" of specific muscles are taught at a higher frequency than the teaching of either "attachments or innervation." Innervation of specific skeletal muscles is the least taught concept. In each body region, certain muscles were taught with higher frequency than others. This research shows there is a global trend in teaching identification of specific skeletal muscles within each body region and often this is accompanied by teaching actions of said muscles. These general instructional trends may increase our understanding of the anatomical and physiological education our undergraduate students are receiving and will lead to further critical conversations about content development and curriculum.

Background: Performing regular muscle-strengthening activity has numerous health benefits, including improvements in blood pressure, hemoglobin A1c, and lean body mass. Despite the disproportionate prevalence of lifestyle-related chronic disease in Latinas (diabetes, hypertension, obesity), most do not report meeting the national guidelines for muscle-strengthening activity. Existing physical activity (PA) research in Latinas has focused almost exclusively on aerobic PA. Our study examined Latinas' sociodemographic and psychosocial correlates of meeting muscle-strengthening PA guidelines that can inform future PA interventions. Method: A cross-sectional study of participants (N = 436) enrolled in a randomized controlled trial promoting PA and cancer screening in Latinas was conducted, and t tests examined the associations between sociodemographic and psychosocial factors with self-reported muscle-strengthening activities. Hierarchical regression was conducted in separate blocks guided by the socioecological model (sociodemographic, individual, and interpersonal factors) to examine the independent contribution of each block to the outcome of meeting national guidelines for muscle-strengthening PA. Results: Participants who met the national PA guidelines of [greater than or equal to]2 days/week of muscle-strengthening activities reported significantly higher social support for PA (p < 0.001), greater use of behavioral strategies for PA (p < 0.001), and lower barriers to PA (p < 0.03) than those who did not meet the guidelines. Hierarchical binary logistic regression indicated behavioral strategies for PA was the only significant correlate of meeting the national guidelines for muscle-strengthening PA (odds ratio = 1.39, 95% confidence interval [1.18, 1.65], p < 0.001). Discussion/Conclusion: Results support a hypothesis that instructing Latinas to use behavior change strategies could help them increase muscle-strengthening PA.

Studies document inequitable tobacco retailer density by neighborhood sociodemographics, but these findings may not be robust to different density measures. Policies to reduce density may be less equitable depending on how the presence of store types differs by neighborhood characteristics. We built a 2018 list of probable tobacco retailers in the United States and calculated four measures of density for all census tracts (N = 71,495), including total count, and number of retailers per 1,000 people, square mile, and kilometers of roadway. We fit multivariable regression models testing associations between each density measure and tract-level sociodemographics. We fit logistic regression models testing associations between sociodemographics and the presence of a tobacco-selling pharmacy or tobacco shop. Across all measures, tracts with a greater percentage of residents living below 150% of the federal poverty level (FPL) had higher density. A higher percentage of Black residents, Hispanic or Latino residents, and vacant housing was inconsistently associated with density across measures. Neighborhoods with a greater percentage of Black residents had a lower odds of having a pharmacy (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] = 0.96, 95% confidence interval [CI; 0.95, 0.97]) and tobacco shop (aOR = 0.87, CI [0.86, 0.89]), while those with a greater percentage of residents living below 150% FPL had greater odds of having a tobacco shop (aOR = 1.18, CI [1.16, 1.20]). Researchers and policymakers should consider how various measures of retailer density may capture different aspects of the environment. Furthermore, there may be an inequitable impact of retailer-specific policies on tobacco availability.

The majority of U.S. adults believe that smoking is a cause of lung cancer, but research suggests that the percentage of adults who believe smoking causes other types of cancers and chronic disease is lower. This study examines the correlates of beliefs about several established health effects of smoking in a nationally representative sample of U.S. adults. Data for this study come from Wave 4 of the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health Study conducted from December 2016 to January 2018. Participants responded to questions assessing their beliefs about the health effects of smoking. Logistic regression models were used to examine the relationship between beliefs about the health effects of smoking and sociodemographic characteristics (smoker status, age, sex, education, race/ethnicity), exposure to antitobacco campaigns, smokers' health, and nicotine dependence. The percentage of U.S. adults who endorsed a health effect can be caused from smoking ranged from 56.4% for blindness to 97.4% for lung disease. Respondents who were older, less educated, current or former smokers, and had less exposure to antitobacco campaigns were generally less likely (p < 0.05) to endorse that an established health effect was caused by smoking. Smokers with lower nicotine dependence and worse health were generally more likely (p < 0.05) to endorse that an established health effect was caused by smoking. In summary, knowledge about the health effects of smoking varies across health conditions. Public health would benefit from campaigns targeting segments of the population with less knowledge about the health effects of smoking.

Faculty perceptions about online instruction were explored using data from a 32-item Quality Distance Education Survey (QDES) administered in 2002 (N = 120) and 2016 (N = 120) to U.S. higher education instructors with online teaching experience. Descriptive and ANOVA procedures were used to compare 2002 and 2016 group faculty perceptions about online instruction. Compared to the 2002 faculty group, the 2016 faculty gave significantly lower instruction importance ratings. Significant main effects for instruction items were noted for faculty group, age, sex, and tenure status. Significant interaction effects were noted for faculty group by sex, age, tenure status, and course level.

This paper investigates the degree to which different variables affect the completion of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC). Data on those variables, such as age, gender, English proficiency, education level, and motivation for course enrollment were first collected through a pre-course survey. Next, course completion records were collected via the Coursera database. Finally, multiple binomial logistic regression models were used to identify factors related to MOOC completion. Although students were grouped according to their preferences, working in groups did not affect students' likelihood for MOOC completion. Also, other variables such as age, the institution hosting the MOOC, academic program alignment with students' needs, and students' intention to complete the course all affected their probability of MOOC completion. This study contributes to the literature by indicating the factors that influence the probability of MOOC completion. Results show that older participants (age > 50 years old) have higher probability of completing the MOOC. Students' MOOC completion also increases when the MOOC provides experiences that add to students' current academic backgrounds and when they are hosted by institutions with a strong academic reputation. Based on these factors, this study contributes to research methods in MOOCs by proposing a model that is aligned with the most important factors predicting completion as recommended by the current MOOC literature. For the next phase of assigning learners to work in groups, findings from this study also suggest that MOOC instructors should provide assistance for group work and monitor students' collaborative processes.

The present study aims to determine special curiosity in sports among students who study at different university departments. The population of the study consists of students studying at different departments at Yozgat Bozok University during 2018-2019 academic year. The sample of the study consists of 397 students who study at different departments at Yozgat Bozok University during 2018-2019 academic year and voluntarily participated in the online survey sent them by e-mail. Survey was used as a data collection method in the study. Students' demographic features were obtained using a "personal information form". In order to identify students' specific curiosity in sports, "Sport Fan Specific Curiosity Scale" adapted to Turkish context and tested for reliability and validity by Korur and Dever (2018) was used. The obtained data were statistically analyzed using SPSS 18 software program. Frequency analysis, percentage analysis, arithmetic means, t test and ANOVA were used for data analysis. The findings of the analysis demonstrate that statistically significant differences were found among students' levels of specific curiosity in sports in terms of their gender, department, family participation in sports and monthly expenses (p<0.05). On the other hand, no statistically significant differences were observed among students in terms of place of residence and family level of income (p>0.05).

The aim of this study is to examine the loneliness and Internet addiction levels of college students in terms of demographic variables and to determine the variables that predict their Internet addiction level. Data were collected from college students studying at a public university in Turkey. The UCLA Loneliness Scale Version3 and Internet Addiction Test (IAT) were used as the data collection tools. College students were delivered an online survey and at the end 489 college students were voluntarily participated in the study. This survey study employed independent sample t-tests, ANOVA tests, correlation and multiple regression tests for data analysis. The results show that younger participants felt significantly more loneliness than older participants; similarly, students in lower classes felt more alone than those in upper classes. In terms of addiction, it is seen that the frequent use of computers, smartphones and social media increases the Internet addiction level of students. The study suggests a significant correlation between loneliness, Internet addiction, age, and Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). Additionally, loneliness and CGPA significantly predict Internet addiction. This study may be important in terms of determining the psychological variables affecting today's increasing technology addiction (internet, smart phone, etc.). Thus, determining the effect of the level of loneliness of young people on internet addiction may be effective in terms of preventing this addiction.

Transnational education is a rapidly evolving and constantly changing field. The Internet has enabled virtually global access to distance education opportunities, however transnational distance students in particular have often been miscategorized, oversimplified, or overlooked in prior research. This literature review synthesizes research and publications over a ten-year period focusing on the emerging phenomenon of transnational distance students. Contrary to the allure of flexible, any time, any place learning often ascribed to distance education, diverse and complex situations are highlighted that paint a more nuanced picture of student circumstances and motivations, counterintuitive and underrepresented conditions that may influence students in their decisions to enroll in transnational distance education programs.

The objective of the present study was to investigate prosocial behaviour, aggression types and moral and social rule knowledge perceptions of 4-5 year old preschool children. The study sample included 310 children (154 female and 156 male), who were attending a pre-school education institution during the 2017-2018 academic year. A personal information form, Pre-School Social Behavior Scale-Teacher Form and Moral and Social Rule Knowledge Perception Scale were used as data collection instruments. The data were analysed with descriptive analysis, Pearson product-moment correlation coefficient and stepwise regression analysis. In the study, it was determined that there were moderate significant correlations between prosocial behaviour, aggression types and moral and social rule knowledge perceptions of 4-5 year old preschool children. It was also determined that prosocial behaviour and aggression types scores of the children significantly predicted their moral and social rule knowledge perception scores.

Predicting school dropout rates is an important issue for the smooth execution of an educational system. This problem is solved by classifying students into two classes using educational activities related statistical datasets. One of the classes must identify the students who have the tendency to persist. The other class must identify the students who have the tendency to dropout. This problem often encounters a phenomenon that masks out the obtained results. This study delves into this phenomenon and provides a reliable educational data mining technique that accurately predicts the dropout rates. In particular, the three data classifying techniques, namely, decision tree, neural networks and Balanced Bagging, are used. The performances of these classifies are tested with and without the use of a downsample, SMOTE and ADASYN data balancing. It is found that among other parameters geometric mean and UAR provides reliable results while predicting the dropout rates using Balanced Bagging classifying techniques.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the general self-efficacy beliefs of licensed swimming referees who actively serve in Turkish Swimming Federation in terms of variables age, gender, educational status, level of referee, the reason to become a referee, professional experience and satisfaction level. The population of the study is composed of a total of 450 swimming referees participating to the Swimming Referee Development Seminar in Antalya in 2016. In addition, the research sample is randomly selected by 212 swimming referees (6 FINA, 74 National and 132 Provincial referees) including 95 females and 117 males were selected in this seminar. A five-point likert-scale "General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSES)", which was developed by Sherer et al. (1982), presented by Magaletta and Oliver (1999) as 17 items and adapted into Turkish culture by Yildirim and Ilhan (2010), was used in the study as data collection tool. Necessary formal permissions were obtained from Turkish Swimming Federation for the scale applied to the referees. Descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, factor analysis, an independent samples t test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Post-Hoc test (Tukey HSD) were applied to data by using SPSS Statistics. An analysis with p<0.05 is considered statistically significant. Cronbach Alpha value was calculated as .949 for the scale. As a result of factorial analysis, two factors with an eigenvalue greater than one were obtained, and it was observed that these two factorial structures revealed 62.63% of the total variance. In addition, according to Bartlett's test, this test was considered significant (p<0.05). As a result of the study, it was found that the swimming referees showed significant differences in terms of the variables of general self-efficacy beliefs such as level of referee, the reason to become a referee, professional experience and satisfaction level and it can be said that these variables are the determinants of the self-efficacy beliefs of swimming referees.

This paper explores the process of the origination and development of the school education system in Vologda Governorate in the period 1725-1917. This part of the set is focused on the development of the region's public education system in the period 1860-1900. The authors draw upon a set of works covering prerevolutionary pedagogy, as well as a pool of contemporary Russian scholarly literature. In conducting the research reported in this paper, the authors employed both general methods of research, including concretization and summarization, and traditional methods of historical analysis. In addition, use was made of the historical-situational method, with a focus on exploring particular historical facts within the context of the given period in conjunction with various "neighboring" events and facts. The authors conclude by noting that from 1860 to 1900 Vologda Governorate enjoyed a period of dynamic development in its public education sector, which can be illustrated by the following figures: (1) an increase in the number of educational facilities from 154 to 1,046; (2) an improved girls-to-boys ratio (1 to 4 in 1900, as opposed to 1 to 6 in 1860). The region witnessed a major change in its system of secondary education, with almost similar numbers of boys and girls achieved by the 1900s. The governorate entered the 20th century with a literate population of a little over 30% (exclusive of children under nine). Given the extensive experience gained in the course of its work on enhancing the system of public education, the governorate's leadership had come to realize that putting an effective system of education in place was possible only provided there was steady and sufficient funding available. And that is testimony that the 1860s experience had, actually, been taken into account.

The following analysis provides evidence from the comparative levels of anxiety towards mathematics of the variables from the categories presented by the AMARS and sociodemographic variables as well. A sample of 381 economics students in Mexico answered the survey. For data analysis, descriptive statistics (x, Sd.) was carried out and to identify if there are significant differences of means in the sociodemographic variables, the ANOVA analysis was carried out. Although in general the anxiety towards mathematics presented in Mexican economics students is "very little", in the dimension of mathematical evaluation the results of the descriptive analysis show that economics students from the south of Mexico have more anxiety than students from other regions. Regarding gender, women feel more anxiety than men towards mathematics evaluation. Likewise, students from public institutions show greater anxiety towards mathematics in the evaluation processes than those belonging to private. Finally, ANOVA test showed that the variable Region showed values less than 0.05 in two of three dimensions (ANXTASK and ANXCOUR). The ANXEVAL dimension showed values < 0.05 in the variable Gender as the ANXEVAL and ANXCOUR showed values < 0.05 in the variable University, this because there is a difference in means.

We conduct descriptive and inferential analyses of publicly available Common Core of Data (CCD) to examine segregation at the local, state, and national levels. Nationally, we find that higher percentages of charter students of every race attend intensely segregated schools. The highest levels of racial isolation are at the primary level for public and middle level for charters. We find that double segregation by race and class is higher in charter schools. Charters are more likely to be segregated, even when controlling for local ethno-racial demographics. A majority of states have at least half of Blacks and a third of Latinx in intensely segregated charters. At the city level, we find that higher percentages of urban charter students were attending intensely segregated schools.

The Great Recession was the most severe economic downturn in the United States since the Great Depression. Using data from the Stanford Education Data Archive (SEDA), we describe the patterns of math and English language arts (ELA) achievement for students attending schools in communities differentially affected by recession-induced employment shocks. Employing a difference-in-differences strategy that leverages both cross-county variation in the economic shock of the recession and within-county, cross-cohort variation in school-age years of exposure to the recession, we find that declines in student math and ELA achievement were greater for cohorts of students attending school during the Great Recession in communities most adversely affected by recession-induced employment shocks, relative to cohorts of students that entered school after the recession had officially ended. Moreover, declines in student achievement were larger in school districts serving more economically disadvantaged and minority students. We conclude by discussing potential policy responses.

The character strengths and virtues approach is a classification system to examine the characteristics of good character in terms of twenty-four strengths and six virtues. This study was designed to investigate the psychometric properties regarding the reliability and validity of the Turkish version of the VIA-Youth. A tool developed to evaluate the character strengths of youth. In addition, character strengths were examined in terms of life satisfaction, values and demographic characteristics. 1963 high school students between 14-19 years participated in this study by completing VIA-Youth and the Human Values and Life Satisfaction inventories. The results confirm the six-factor model in the theoretical framework. It has also been concluded that character strengths affect life satisfaction and values and that socio demographic features are related to strengths. The adaptation of this inventory into Turkish culture contributes to the current understanding of the universal aspects of character strengths for studies within the context of positive youth development. Besides the adaptation, the relationships between character strengths, values, demographic characteristics and life satisfaction were discussed and suggestions were made.

This study identified subgroups of elementary students based on similar patterns of participation in four different types of extended education in Korea. The study also investigated relationships between student patterns of extended education participation and their various demographic and socioeconomic characteristics, including residential location, parental education, and family income level. To achieve these aims, the study used latent profile analysis and logistic regression on a dataset of 18,186 students from 786 elementary schools provided by Statistics Korea. Results reveal five distinctive subgroups of students in terms of extended education participation: afterschool academic program users, shadow education users, moderate afterschool academic program users, ordinary users, and talent development seekers. Results also show that student socioeconomic and demographic characteristics are strongly associated with their classification into the above-mentioned subgroups. These findings signal the possibility that "educational stratification" based on student socioeconomic background may be occurring in the area of extended education.
