252. Synergistic effect of covalent functionalization and intrinsic electric field on β-Ga2O3/graphene heterostructures.

Abstract

β-Ga2O3/graphene heterostructure engineering has been regarded as an effective method to improve the optoelectronic performance of the β-Ga2O3 device. Here, hydrogenation/fluorination covalent functionalized graphene (HC/FC) was employed, and the synergistic effect of covalent functionalization and intrinsic electric field (Ein) was introduced to further improve and understand the interfacial properties of the heterostructure. Under the covalent functionalization, type-II band alignment with UV-infrared dual-band absorption was found for β-Ga2O3/HC heterostructure, while reserved type-II band alignment with hole doping was realized for p-type β-Ga2O3/FC heterostructure. Upon introducing the synergistic effect of covalent functionalization and Ein for β-Ga2O3/hydro-fluorinated graphene (HCF) heterostructure, except for the above similar characters, both the band offsets and optical absorption are further enhanced in β-Ga2O3/HCF heterostructures. When the direction of intrinsic Ein points to the contact interface, the Fermi level of β-Ga2O3/F-HCF was much closer to the valence band of β-Ga2O3. It was thought that the synergistic effect of covalent functionalization and Ein was more beneficial to promote the application of p-type β-Ga2O3. These findings were deeply revealed by the band levels, electrostatic potential, and charge transfer introduced. Our results were expected to provide useful insight into the synergistic effect of covalent functionalization and intrinsic Ein as well as to enhance the application potential of β-Ga2O3/graphene-based optoelectronic devices. 253. Recent progress on the effects of impurities and defects on the properties of Ga2O3.

Abstract

Ga2O3 is attractive for power devices and solar-blind ultraviolet photodetectors due to its ultra-wide bandgap, large breakdown field, and favorable stability. However, it is difficult to prepare the ideal Ga2O3 since there are plenty of defects (e.g., vacancies and interstitial atoms) in the bulk and films which can affect the physical properties of Ga2O3. Besides, the deep level defects act as trapped centers and have influence on the sensitivity and responsivity of optoelectronic devices. It has been discovered that doping is an effective strategy to modulate the properties of Ga2O3. In this review, the effects of defects and impurities on the material properties of Ga2O3 are mainly discussed. Considering that β-Ga2O3 is the most stable and the most studied currently, it is the main focus of this review. Firstly, the intrinsic properties (e.g., electronic, absorption, thermal and mechanical properties) of β-Ga2O3 are introduced, and then the influence of impurities (e.g., dopants and passivators) and defects on the electronic properties of β-Ga2O3 is discussed emphatically. Besides, the other properties (e.g., luminescence, magnetic, and piezoelectric properties) of β-Ga2O3 modulated by defects and impurities are also briefly discussed. 254. Novel properties of vacancy-ordered perovskite-Cs2BCl6induced by d-orbital electrons

Abstract

The all-inorganic lead-free vacancy-ordered perovskite offers a promising avenue toward nontoxic and stable optoelectronic materials. Herein, we present a first-principles study of the structural stability, optical absorption, electronic structure, and mechanical behavior of Cs2BCl6compounds with B-site substitutions (BGe, Sn, Pb, Cr, Mo, W, Ti, Zr, and Hf). The structural analysis shows that the Cs2BCl6perovskite with face-centered cubes has a stable chemical environment, especially Cs2HfCl6, Cs2WCl6, and Cs2PbCl6. Hf4+and W4+with high-energy d-state external electron configurations can further lower the valence band maximum position of the Cs2BCl6structures and thus increase the band gap, assisting in tuning the optical absorption and emission properties of these structures in the optoelectronic application. For the light absorption properties of Cs2BCl6materials, the best light absorption properties have been concluded for Ti4+, Cr4+, and Pb4+-based perovskite in the visible range due to a suitable band gap. Therefore, the excellent optical absorption and electronic properties make these vacancy-ordered perovskites promising candidates for optoelectronic applications.

Abstract

Microbial communities from rhizosphere (rhizomicrobiomes) have been significantly impacted by domestication as evidenced by a comparison of the rhizomicrobiomes of wild and related cultivated rice accessions. While there have been many published studies focusing on the structure of the rhizomicrobiome, studies comparing the functional traits of the microbial communities in the rhizospheres of wild rice and cultivated rice accessions are not yet available. In this study, we used metagenomic data from experimental rice plots to analyze the potential functional traits of the microbial communities in the rhizospheres of wild rice accessions originated from Africa and Asia in comparison with their related cultivated rice accessions. The functional potential of rhizosphere microbial communities involved in alanine, aspartate and glutamate metabolism, methane metabolism, carbon fixation pathways, citrate cycle (TCA cycle), pyruvate metabolism and lipopolysaccharide biosynthesis pathways were found to be enriched in the rhizomicrobiomes of wild rice accessions. Notably, methane metabolism in the rhizomicrobiomes of wild and cultivated rice accessions clearly differed. Key enzymes involved in methane production and utilization were overrepresented in the rhizomicrobiome samples obtained from wild rice accessions, suggesting that the rhizomicrobiomes of wild rice maintain a different ecological balance for methane production and utilization compared with those of the related cultivated rice accessions. A novel assessment of the impact of rice domestication on the primary metabolic pathways associated with microbial taxa in the rhizomicrobiomes was performed. Results indicated a strong impact of rice domestication on methane metabolism; a process that represents a critical function of the rhizosphere microbial community of rice. The findings of this study provide important information for future breeding of rice varieties with reduced methane emission during cultivation for sustainable agriculture.

Abstract

With the continuous development of solar cells, the perovskite solar cells (PSCs), whose hole transport layer plays a vital part in collection of photogenerated carriers, have been studied by many researchers. Interface transport layers are important for efficiency and stability enhancement. In this paper, we demonstrated that lithium (Li) and cobalt (Co) codoped in the novel inorganic hole transport layer named NiOx, which were deposited onto ITO substrates via solution methods at room temperature, can greatly enhance performance based on inverted structures of planar heterojunction PSCs. Compared to the pristine NiOx films, doping a certain amount of Li and Co can increase optical transparency, work function, electrical conductivity and hole mobility of NiOx film. Furthermore, experimental results certified that coating CH3NH3 PbI xCl3&minus, x perovskite films on Li and Co- NiOx electrode interlayer film can improve chemical stability and absorbing ability of sunlight than the pristine NiOx. Consequently, the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of PSCs has a great improvement from 14.1% to 18.7% when codoped with 10% Li and 5% Co in NiOx. Moreover, the short-circuit current density (Jsc) was increased from 20.09 mA/cm 2 to 21.7 mA/cm 2 and the fill factor (FF) was enhanced from 0.70 to 0.75 for the PSCs. The experiment results demonstrated that the Li and Co codoped NiOx can be a effective dopant to improve the performance of the PSCs.

Abstract

The rhizosphere fungal community affects the ability of crops to acquire nutrients and their susceptibility to pathogen invasion. However, the effects of rice domestication on the diversity and interactions of rhizosphere fungal community still remain largely unknown. Here, internal transcribed spacer amplicon sequencing was used to systematically analyze the structure of rhizosphere fungal communities of wild and domesticated rice. The results showed that domestication increased the alpha diversity indices of the rice rhizosphere fungal community. The changes of alpha diversity index may be associated with the enrichment of Acremonium, Lecythophora, and other specific rare taxa in the rhizosphere of domesticated rice. The co-occurrence network showed that the complexity of wild rice rhizosphere fungal community was higher than that of the domesticated rice rhizosphere fungal community. Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and soilborne fungi were positively and negatively correlated with more fungi in the wild rice rhizosphere, respectively. For restructuring the rhizomicrobial community of domesticated crops, we hypothesize that microbes that hold positive connections with AMF and negative connections with soilborne fungi can be used as potential sources for bio-inoculation. Our findings provide a scientific basis for reshaping the structure of rhizomicrobial community and furthermore create potential for novel intelligent and sustainable agricultural solutions.

Abstract

Aims Specific soil bacteria can sense and respond to the selective rhizosphere recruitment of root exudates using unique systems of chemotaxis that mediate plant-microbe and microbe-microbe interactions. This study investigates how the bacterial chemotaxis systems have been impacted by selection during the domestication of rice (Oryza species). Methods Shotgun metagenomic sequencing and 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing were performed to investigate the bacterial chemotaxis systems and chemotactic bacteria in the rhizospheres of wild and cultivated rice. Metabolomics analysis was performed to examine the root metabolites of different accessions of rice. Results The bacterial chemotaxis genes exhibited a higher abundance in the rhizospheres of wild rice than cultivated rice, and that the compositional profile of chemotaxis genes was distinctly different between types of rice. Differential selection of chemotaxis systems was at least partially driven by changes in the metabolite profiles of rice roots that were affected by domestication. A core group of chemotactic bacteria was also identified, and specific chemotactic bacteria were found to function as hub taxa in the rhizosphere bacterial community. Conclusion The present study provides novel insights into the composition and function of the bacterial chemotaxis systems in the rhizospheres of wild and domesticated rice. It also provides a new perspective on the impact of rice domestication on the assembly of rhizomicrobiome.

Abstract

Background The soil microbiome drives soil ecosystem function, and soil microbial functionality is directly linked to interactions between microbes and the soil environment. However, the context-dependent interactions in the soil microbiome remain largely unknown. Results Using latent variable models (LVMs), we disentangle the biotic and abiotic interactions of soil bacteria, fungi and environmental factors using the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau soil ecosystem as a model. Our results show that soil bacteria and fungi not only interact with each other but also shift from competition to facilitation or vice versa depending on environmental variation; that is, the nature of their interactions is context-dependent. Conclusions Overall, elevation is the environmental gradient that most promotes facilitative interactions among microbes but is not a major driver of soil microbial community composition, as evidenced by variance partitioning. The larger the tolerance of a microbe to a specific environmental gradient, the lesser likely it is to interact with other soil microbes, which suggests that facilitation does not necessarily lead to niche expansion.

Abstract

Background: In the absence of practical and reliable predictors for whether the endocervical curettage (ECC) procedure should be performed, decisions regarding patient selection are usually based on the colposcopists' clinical judgment instead of evidence. We aimed to develop and validate a practical prediction model that uses available information to reliably estimate the need to perform ECC in patients suspected of having cervical lesions.Methods: In this retrospective study, 2088 patients who underwent colposcopy, colposcopically directed biopsy (CDB) and ECC procedures between September 2019 and September 2020 at the Second Hospital of Shanxi Medical University were included. The data were analyzed with univariate and multivariable logistic regression. Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) was used to select predictors for ECC positivity. The ECC prediction model was presented as a nomogram and evaluated in terms of discrimination and calibration. Furthermore, this model was validated internally with cross-validation and bootstrapping.Results: Significant trends were found for ECC positivity with increasing age (P = 0.001), menopause (P = 0.003), Human papillomavirus (HPV) status (P < 0.001), severity of ThinPrep Cytological Test (TCT) (P < 0.001), original squamous epithelium ectopia (P = 0.037) and colposcopy impression (P < 0.001) by multivariable logistic regression analysis. The ECC prediction model was developed based on the following predictors: age, menopause, symptom of contact bleeding, severity of TCT, HPV status, cervix visibility, original squamous epithelium ectopia, acetowhite changes and colposcopic impression. This model had satisfactory calibration and good discrimination, with an area under the receiver operator characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.869 (95% confidence interval 0.849 to 0.889).Conclusions: A readily applicable clinical prediction model was constructed to reliably estimate the probability of ECC positivity in patients suspicious of having cervical lesions, which may help clinicians make decisions regarding the ECC procedure and possibly prevent adverse effects.
