Reactions to decisions are shaped by both outcome and procedural fairness. Moreover, outcome and procedural fairness interact to influence beliefs and behaviors. However, different types of “process/outcome” interaction effects have emerged. Many studies have shown that people react particularly negatively when they receive unfair or unfavorable outcomes accompanied by unfair procedures (the “low-low” interactive pattern). However, others find that people react especially positively when they receive fair or favorable outcomes accompanied by fair procedures (the “high-high” interactive pattern). We propose that trust in decision-making authorities dictates the form of the process/outcome interaction. Across three studies, when trust was high, the “low-low” interactive pattern emerged. When trust was low, the “high-high” interactive pattern emerged. The findings suggest that when people’s experience of outcome and procedural fairness diverged from how they expected to be treated, they reacted in the direction of their experiences; otherwise, their reactions were consistent with their expectations.

Recent research has shown that ethical behavior can be influenced by features of the immediate environment such as the presence of a cheater or the characteristics of a room. We suggest ethical behavior is similarly shaped by a more diffuse and enduring situational feature: the state of the economy. Building on work showing that prosperity fuels overconfidence, risk-taking, and greed, we argue that ethical behavior improves when the economy falters. Five studies spanning diverse populations and different types of misconduct find support for this hypothesis. During prosperous economic times, companies were more likely to submit regulatory filings that would later be restated for fraud (Study 1), academics were more likely to publish papers that later would be retracted (Study 2), Major League Baseball pitchers were more likely to try to harm opposing batters (Study 3), and students were more likely to steal, damage property, shoplift, and submit plagiarized work (Studies 4 and 5). While a large body of research has shown that proximal situational variables can influence ethical impulses, our findings suggest that more diffuse macroeconomic factors can similarly shape unethical behavior.

International audience; We wish to constrain the possible contribution of a magnetohydrodynamic disk wind (DW) to the HH212 molecular jet. We mapped the flow base with ALMA Cycle 4 at 0.̋13 ~ 60 au resolution and compared these observations with synthetic DW predictions. We identified, in SO/SO2, a rotating flow that is wider and slower than the axial SiO jet. The broad outflow cavity seen in C34S is not carved by a fast wide-angle wind but by this slower agent. Rotation signatures may be fitted by a DW of a moderate lever arm launched out to ~40 au with SiO tracing dust-free streamlines from 0.05−0.3 au. Such a DW could limit the core-to-star efficiency to ≤50%.

We studied the endocrine status of SJL/J mice. Light and electron microscopy revealed that the adenohypophyses of both sexes became progressively infiltrated with an abnormal number of gonadotropinproducing cells that probably secreted large amounts of luteotropic hormone. The ovaries had numerous large corpora lutea even in animals over 1 year of age with reticulum cell neoplasms. The adrenal cortexes of female mice showed no regression of the reticular zone. In accordance with the anomalous condition of the adenohypophysis and ovary, females had abnormal estrous cycles, with prolonged diestrus and consequent reduction in fertility. These data were discussed in the context of hormone environment versus onset of systemic neoplastic disease and the relationship between hormone dependence and leukemic virus expression

Deuterated molecules have been detected towards the early stages of Sun-like star formation (prestellar cores, Class 0 objects) as well as towards the Solar System; they are a powerful diagnostic tool for studying physical conditions at the moment of the organics formation. However, observations in intermediate stages (Class I/II objects) are still missing. In the framework of the ASAI-IRAM Large Program, we report here the formaldehyde and methanol deuteration as measured in the Class I object SVS13-A. The deuterium fractionation is found to be 9 × 10-2 for HDCO, 5 × 10-3 For D2CO, and 4 × 10-3 for CH_2DOH, up to one order of magnitude lower than the value measured in Class 0 sources. The present measurements of organics deuteration towards the Class I object SVS13-A contribute to fill in the gap between prestellar cores and protoplanetary disks in the context of deuterium fractionation measurements (see \citet{bia17}).

We report the first measurement of the absolute branching fraction for Lambda(+)(c) -> Lambda mu(+)nu(mu).This measurement is based on a sample of e+e(-) annihilation data produced at a center-of-mass energy root s = 4.6 GeV, collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage rings. The sample corresponds to an integrated luminosity of 567 pb(-1). The branching fraction is determined to be B( Lambda(+)(c) -> Lambda mu(+)nu(mu)) = (3.49 +/- 0.46( stat) +/- 0.27( syst))%. In addition, we calculate the ratio B( Lambda(+)(c) -> Lambda mu(+)nu(mu))/B(Lambda(+)(c) -> Lambda e(+)nu(e) to be 0.96 +/- 0.16( stat) +/- 0.04( syst).

We examine whether prosperous economic times have both immediate and lasting implications for corporate misconduct among CEOs. Drawing on research suggesting that prosperous times are associated with excessive risk-taking, overconfidence, and more opportunities to cheat, we first propose that CEOs will be more likely to engage in corporate misconduct during good economic times. Next, we propose that CEOs who begin their careers in prosperous times will be more likely to engage in self-serving corporate misconduct later in their careers. We tested these hypotheses by assembling a large dataset of American CEOs and following their stock option reporting patterns between 1996 and 2005. We found that in good economic times, CEOs were more likely to backdate their stock options grants. Moreover, CEOs who began their careers in prosperous times were more likely to backdate stock option grants later in their careers. These findings suggest that the state of the economy can influence current ethical behavior and leave a lasting imprint on the moral proclivities of new workforce entrants.

Transport properties of 3D scaffolds under fluid flow are critical for tissue development. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models can resolve 3D flows and nutrient concentrations in bioreactors at the scaffold-pore scale with high resolution. However, CFD models can be formulated based on assumptions and simplifications. μ-Particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements should be performed to improve the reliability and predictive power of such models. Nevertheless, measuring fluid flow velocities within 3D scaffolds is challenging. The aim of this study was to develop a μPIV approach to allow the extraction of velocity fields from a 3D additive manufacturing scaffold using a conventional 2D μPIV system. The μ-computed tomography scaffold geometry was included in a CFD model where perfusion conditions were simulated. Good agreement was found between velocity profiles from measurements and computational results. Maximum velocities were found at the centre of the pore using both techniques with a difference of 12% which was expected according to the accuracy of the μPIV system. However, significant differences in terms of velocity magnitude were found near scaffold substrate due to scaffold brightness which affected the μPIV measurements. As a result, the limitations of the μPIV system only permits a partial validation of the CFD model. Nevertheless, the combination of both techniques allowed a detailed description of velocity maps within a 3D scaffold which is crucial to determine the optimal cell and nutrient transport properties.

here has been a great advance in the grinding process by the development of dressing, lubri-refrigeration and other methods. Nevertheless, all of these advances were gained only for continuous cutting; in other words, the ground workpiece profile remains unchanged. Hence, it becomes necessary to study grinding process using intermittent cutting (grooved workpiece – discontinuous cutting), as little or no knowledge and studies have been developed for this purpose, since there is nothing found in formal literature, except for grooved grinding wheels. During the grinding process, heat generated in the cutting zone is extremely high. Therefore, plenty of cutting fluids are essential to cool not only the workpiece but also the grinding wheel, improving the grinding process. In this paper, grinding trials were performed using a conventional aluminum oxide grinding wheel, testing samples made of AISI 4340 steel quenched and tempered with 2, 6, and 12 grooves. The cylindrical plunge grinding was performed by rotating the workpiece on the grinding wheel. This plunge movement was made at three different speeds. From the obtained results, it can be observed that roughness tended to increase for testing sample with the same number of grooves, as rotation speed increased. Roundness error also tended to increase as the speed rotation process got higher for testing the sample with the same number of grooves. Grinding wheel wear enhanced as rotation speed and number of grooves increased. Power consumed by the grinding machine was inversely proportional to the number of grooves. Subsuperficial microhardness had no significant change. Micrographs reveal an optimal machining operation as there was no significant damage on the machined surface.
