The comments are given on the article authored by M.V. Mints and K.A. Dokukina – The Belomorian Eclogite Province (Eastern Fennoscandian Shield, Russia): Meso-Neoarchean or Late Paleoproterozoic? (Geodynamics & Tectonophysics 2020, 11 (1), 151–200). The Belomorian (White Sea) province of the Fennoscandia Shield is a key site for studying the tectonics of the early periods because numerous Precambrian eclogites have been found there. It was not anticipated, but the problem of age determinations of the eclogite metamorphism of gabbroids in the White Sea mobile belt has turned out to be extremely relevant not only for this region, but also for the Precambrian geology in general. The reason is that a number of authors determine the age of eclogites as Archean (2.7–2.8 Ga), which makes the White Sea mobile belt the only example of the Archean eclogite metamorphism in the world and, therefore, the only dated evidence in support of the plate tectonic model of the evolution of the Earth’s crust at the earliest stage of its formation. The article consistently provides a critical analysis of the arguments put forward by the supporters of the Archean age of the eclogites of the White Sea mobile belt. Special emphasis is made on the isotope geochronological and geochemical features of the composition of zircons from eclogite samples, as well as on the phase and chemical compositions and distribution patterns of mineral inclusions. Considering the age of eclogite metamorphism that led to the formation of eclogites in the White Sea mobile belt, we propose our interpretation based on a set of independent isotope geochemical dating methods, including the local U- Pb method for heterogeneous zircons with magmatic cores and eclogite rims, the Lu-Hf and Sm-Nd methods for the minerals of eclogite paragenesis (garnet and omphacite). And this age interpretation is fundamentally different from the one described in the commented article: all the three methods independently determine the eclogite metamorphism as Paleoproterozoic and yield the same age of circa 1.9 Ga. According to our data, the eclogites of the White Sea mobile belt are among the most ancient high-pressure rocks, their reliably established age of metamorphism is circa 1.9 Ga, and the age of the magmatic protolith is the range of 2.2–2.9 Ga.

In the course of the study, it was possible to identify the weighted average values of the burden of static-dynamic diseases among the female and male population of young age. A continuous study was carried out in 2020 on the basis of the Main Bureau of Medical and Social Expertise in the Rostov Region. In the course of the work, a database was compiled on the accumulated disability in the Rostov region for people aged 18–45 years (23,248 cases). In the course of the study, five age-sex groups were identified: 1) 18–25 years old, 2) 26–30 years old, 3) 31–35 years old, 4) 36–40 years old, 5) 41–45 years old. The study of indicators of a separate age group included the calculation of the frequency of accumulated disability, assessment of the structure of the contingent, taking into account the causes and severity of disability. Statistical processing of the data obtained was carried out by comparing the average values in the Statistica 10 application program. In the first studied age group, the incidence of accumulated disability is 87.9 cases per 10 thousand of the population, among them 17.7 cases per 10 thousand of the population are people with disabilities. statodynamic disturbances (20.1%). In the second group, the frequency of general disability is 70.9 cases per 10 thousand of the population, among them 17.0 cases per 10 thousand of the population are people with disabilities with staticdynamic disorders (24.0%). In the third group, the incidence of accumulated disability is 119.1 cases per 10 thousand of the population, among them 31.4 cases per 10 thousand of the population are disabled persons with static-dynamic disorders (26.4%). In the fourth group, the incidence of accumulated disability is 182.0 cases per 10 thousand of the population, among them 54.7 cases per 10 thousand of the population are people with disabilities with static-dynamic disorders (30.0 %). In the fifth group, the frequency of general disability is 276.2 cases per 10 thousand of the population, among them 82.9 cases per 10 thousand of the population are people with disabilities with static-dynamic disorders (30.0 %). Thus, the indicator of accumulated disability with statodynamic disorders is higher in the fifth age-sex group of the study (82.9 cases per 10 thousand population); in the structure of the severity of disability, the third group prevails.

Racial and ethnic segregation has been linked to a number of deleterious health outcomes, including violence. Previous studies of segregation and violence have focused on segregation between African Americans and Whites, used homicide as a measure of violence, and employed segregation measures that fail to take into account neighborhood level processes. We examined the relationship between neighborhood diversity and violent injury in Oakland, California. Violent injuries from the Alameda County Medical Center Trauma Registry that occurred between 1998 and 2002 were geocoded. A local measure of diversity among African American, White, Hispanic, and Asian populations that captured interactions across census block group boundaries was calculated from 2000 U.S. Census data and a Geographic Information System. The relationship between violent injuries and neighborhood level of diversity, adjusted for covariates, was analyzed with zero-inflated negative binomial regression. There was a significant and inverse association between level of racial and ethnic diversity and rate of violent injury (IRR 0.30; 95% CI: 0.13-0.69). There was a similar relationship between diversity and violent injury for predominantly African American block groups (IRR 0.23; 95% CI: 0.08-0.62) and predominantly Hispanic block groups (IRR 0.08; 95% CI: 0.01-0.76). Diversity was not significantly associated with violent injury in predominantly White or Asian block groups. Block group racial and ethnic diversity is associated with lower rates of violent injury, particularly for predominantly African American and Hispanic block groups.

Substantial experimental and theoretical efforts worldwide are devoted to explore the phase diagram of strongly interacting matter. At LHC and top RHIC energies, QCD matter is studied at very high temperatures and nearly vanishing net-baryon densities. There is evidence that a Quark-Gluon-Plasma (QGP) was created at experiments at RHIC and LHC. The transition from the QGP back to the hadron gas is found to be a smooth cross over. For larger net-baryon densities and lower temperatures, it is expected that the QCD phase diagram exhibits a rich structure, such as a first-order phase transition between hadronic and partonic matter which terminates in a critical point, or exotic phases like quarkyonic matter. The discovery of these landmarks would be a breakthrough in our understanding of the strong interaction and is therefore in the focus of various high-energy heavy-ion research programs. The Compressed Baryonic Matter (CBM) experiment at FAIR will play a unique role in the exploration of the QCD phase diagram in the region of high net-baryon densities, because it is designed to run at unprecedented interaction rates. High-rate operation is the key prerequisite for high-precision measurements of multi-differential observables and of rare diagnostic probes which are sensitive to the dense phase of the nuclear fireball. The goal of the CBM experiment at SIS100 (sNN= 2.7--4.9 GeV) is to discover fundamental properties of QCD matter: the phase structure at large baryon-chemical potentials (μB> 500 MeV), effects of chiral symmetry, and the equation of state at high density as it is expected to occur in the core of neutron stars. In this article, we review the motivation for and the physics programme of CBM, including activities before the start of data taking in 2024, in the context of the worldwide efforts to explore high-density QCD matter.

The Marun–Keu complex plays a significant role in our understanding of the geological evolution of the Ural orogen; however, it remains poorly understood. This study aims to provide insights into the complex's age, protolith composition, rock formation conditions, and its position in the geological history. The zircons from the host granitic gneiss are characterized by magmatic cores with an age of 473 Ma and metamorphic rims with an age of approximately 370 Ma. We suggest that the metamorphic rims were formed during eclogite metamorphism and that the metagranitoids hosting the eclogites experienced eclogite metamorphism simultaneously with the basic and ultrabasic rocks that are common in this area. Heterogeneous zircons were also isolated from the selvage of a pegmatite vein, in which four domains are distinguished, two to three of which can be identified within single grains, as follows: (1) igneous cores with an age of approximately 470 Ma and the geochemical characteristics of zircon crystallized in basic rocks; (2) zircons recrystallized during eclogite metamorphism with geochemical characteristics intermediate between those of the magmatic cores and true eclogitic zircon; (3) pegmatitic zircon, exhibiting the most sharply differentiated REE spectra of all four domains, characterized by a prominent positive Ce anomaly and a weakly expressed negative Eu anomaly; and (4) eclogitic zircon, observed in the form of veins and rims, superimposed in relation to the other three domains. The age of the latter three domains is within the error range and is estimated to be approximately 370 Ma. This indicates that the processes of eclogite metamorphism and the formation of pegmatites occurred at approximately the same time in the studied area. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Neuromodulation in the retina is crucial for effective processing of retinal signal at different levels of illuminance. Intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs), the neurons that drive nonimage-forming visual functions, express a variety of neuromodulatory receptors that tune intrinsic excitability as well as synaptic inputs. Past research has examined actions of neuromodulators on light responsiveness of ipRGCs, but less is known about how neuromodulation affects synaptic currents in ipRGCs. To better understand how neuromodulators affect synaptic processing in ipRGC, we examine actions of opioid and dopamine agonists have on inhibitory synaptic currents in ipRGCs. Although µ-opioid receptor (MOR) activation had no effect on γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) currents, dopamine [via the D1-type dopamine receptor (D1R)]) amplified GABAergic currents in a subset of ipRGCs. Furthermore, this D1R-mediated facilitation of the GABA conductance in ipRGCs was mediated by a cAMP/PKA-dependent mechanism. Taken together, these findings reinforce the idea that dopamine's modulatory role in retinal adaptation affects both nonimage-forming and image-forming visual functions. NEW & NOTEWORTHY: Neuromodulators such as dopamine are important regulators of retinal function. Here, we demonstrate that dopamine increases inhibitory inputs to intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs), in addition to its previously established effect on intrinsic light responsiveness. This indicates that dopamine, in addition to its ability to intrinsically modulate ipRGC activity, can also affect synaptic inputs to ipRGCs, thereby tuning retina circuits involved in nonimage-forming visual functions. Introduction: European guidelines recommend the implementation of lipidlowering therapies (LLTs) in adults (≥ 65 years) with established atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) and for risk-based primary prevention in older adults (≤ 75 years), yet their use in very-old adults (> 75 years) is controversial, discretionary, and oriented on the presence of risk factors. The aim of this retrospective study is to assess guideline-directed LLT implementation and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) target achievement in high-/very-high-risk older/very-old adults (65-74 and ≥ 75 years) at presentation for STsegment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and also to assess evidencebased care delivery to older adults in our region. Methods: All STEMI patients with available LDL-C and total cholesterol presenting for treatment at a large tertiary center in Salzburg, Austria, 2018-2020, were screened (n = 910). High-risk/very-high-risk patients (n = 369) were classified according to European guidelines criteria and divided into cohorts by age: < 65 years (n = 152), 65-74 years (n = 104), and ≥ 75 years (n = 113). Results: Despite being at high-/very-high-risk, prior LLT use was < 40% in the total cohort, with no significant difference by age. Statin monotherapy predominated; 20%-23% of older/very-old adults in the entire cohort were using low-/moderate-intensity stains, 11%-13% were using high-intensity statins, 4% were on ezetimibe therapy, and none were taking proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) inhibitors. In the secondary prevention cohort, 53% of older/very-old patients used prior LLTs. Significantly higher percentages of older/oldest ASCVD patients (43% and 49%) met LDL-C targets < 70 mg/dL compared to patients < 65 years (29%; p = 0.033), although just 22% and 30% of these older groups attained stricter LDL-C targets of < 55 mg/dL. Low LLT uptake (16%) among older adults aged 64-74 years for primary prevention resulted in 17% and 10% attainment of risk-based LDL-C targets < 70 mg/dL and < 55 mg/dL, respectively. Oldest adults (≥ 75 years) in both primary and secondary prevention groups more often met risk-based targets than older and younger adults, despite predominantly receiving low-/moderate-intensity statin monotherapy. Conclusion: Secondary prevention was sub-optimal in our region. Less than half of older/very-old adults with established ASCVD met LDL-C targets at the time of STEMI, suggesting severe care-delivery deficits in LLT implementation. Shortcomings in initiation of risk-based LLTs were also observed among high-/very-high-risk primary prevention patients < 75 years, with the achievement of riskbased LDL-C targets in 10%-48% of these patients. Organophosphate esters (OPEs) used as flame retardants and plasticizers are additives in building and construction materials, decorations, furniture, electronic equipment, among other applications. The presence of materials containing these substances in construction and demolition waste (CDW) from weak waste management practices can result in environmental contamination. In this study, OPEs' presence in soil samples collected from a CDW landfill in Brazil was evaluated. Soil samples were collected in areas adjacent to CDW from an inert landfill, and the samples were analysed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry. The OPEs were detected in all soil samples at quantifiable concentrations ranging from 21 to 251 ng g−1, and detected compounds were tris(phenyl) phosphate, tris(2-butoxyethyl) phosphate, tris(1,3-dichloroisopropyl) phosphate, tris(2-chloroisopropyl) phosphate and 2-ethylhexyl diphenyl phosphate. The presence of these compounds in a CDW landfill is probably due to the lack of control of the materials sent to and deposited in the landfill, which, results in part from the lack of sampling and screening systems that can help identify the presence of contaminants in the CDW waste stream. This is partially due to OPEs not being considered controlled compounds under current regulations, thus screening or separation for handling of OPEs at construction and demolition work sites is rare to non-existent. Group-living animals engage in coordinated vocalizations to depart from a location as a group, and often, to come to a consensus about the direction of movement. Here, we document for the first time, the use of coordinated vocalizations, the "let's go" rumble, in wild male African elephant group departures from a waterhole. We recorded vocalizations and collected behavioral data as known individuals engaged in these vocal bouts during June-July field seasons in 2005, 2007, 2011, and 2017 at Mushara waterhole within Etosha National Park, Namibia. During departure events, we documented which individuals were involved in the calls, the signature structure of each individual's calls, as well as the ordering of callers, the social status of the callers, and those who initiated departure. The "let's go" rumble was previously described in tight-knit family groups to keep the family together during coordinated departures. Male elephants are described as living in loose social groups, making this finding particularly striking. We found that this vocal coordination occurs in groups of closely associated, highly bonded individuals and rarely occurs between looser associates. The three individuals most likely to initiate the "let's go" rumble bouts were all highly socially integrated, and one of these individuals was also the most dominant overall. This finding suggests that more socially integrated individuals might be more likely to initiate, or lead, a close group of associates in the context of leaving the waterhole, just as a high-ranking female would do in a family group. The fact that many individuals were involved in the vocal bouts, and that departure periods could be shorter, longer, or the same amount of time as pre-departure periods, all suggest that there is consensus with regard to the act of leaving, even though the event was triggered by a lead individual. New methylsulfate complex (Bu4N)2[Мо6I8(O3SOCH3)6] (I) is synthesized by the reaction of (Bu4N)2[Mo6I8(C≡C–C(O)OCH3)6] with dimethyl sulfate (CH3)2SO4. According to the XRD data, the molybdenum atoms are coordinated by the monodentate methylsulfate ligands. In a DMSO solution, the complex undergoes solvolysis accompanied by the complete substitution of the methylsulfate ligands by the solvent molecules. A powder sample of cluster I luminesces (phosphorescence) with the emission maximum at a wavelength of 620 nm (77 K). Increasing temperature to 300 K results in the shift of the emission maximum to 650 nm and a decrease in the integral intensity by 1.6 times. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
