Chemotherapy and radiotherapy often result in reduced fertility in cancer patients. With increasing survival rates, fertility is an important quality-of-life concern for many young cancer patients. Around 70-75% of young cancer survivors are interested in parenthood but the numbers of patients who access fertility preservation techniques prior to treatment are significantly lower. Moreover, despite existing guidelines, healthcare professionals do not address fertility preservation issues adequately. There is a critical need for improvements in clinical care to ensure patients are well informed about infertility risks and fertility preservation options and to support them in their reproductive decision-making prior to cancer treatment.

A recent re-operationalisation of grandiose narcissism has resulted in the distinction of two narcissistic strategies based on the cognitive, affective-motivational, and behavioural dynamics: admiration (assertive self-enhancement) and rivalry (antagonistic self-protection). The Narcissistic Admiration and Rivalry Questionnaire (NARQ) was developed to assess this model with two higher-order dimensions. However, cross-validations of the NARQ have not been extensively conducted across diverse population groups and languages. This study aimed to test the internal and external validity (through the relation with envy and self-esteem), reliability, and cross-cultural equivalence of the Spanish version of the NARQ. The psychometric properties were evaluated in a Spanish sample (N = 310), and cross-cultural equivalence was tested in participants from Chile (N = 234) and Colombia (N = 256). The results supported the reliability and validity of the Spanish NARQ, as well as the cross-cultural equivalence across Spanish-speaking countries. In addition, we discuss obtained differences across Spanish, Chilean, and Colombian sample within two narcissistic strategies. The work of Maria M. Patients with IgA nephropathy have elevated serum levels of polymeric IgA, probably due to an increase in their synthesis by peripheral blood mononuclear cells, and specific abnormalities in the immunoregulation of IgA. The existence of familial cases of IgA nephropathy, as well as the published association of this nephropathy with some antigens of the HLA system, decided us to test the hypothesis that some of these alterations might be genetically controlled. For this reason we studied some of these immunological assays in 25 first-degree relatives of 7 patients with IgA nephropathy and 22 control subjects matched for age and sex. An abnormal immunological assay was found in at least 1 relative of all families examined. Thus, 16 of 25 relatives had a significant increase in the percentage of polymeric IgA-producing cells after 7 days of culture in the presence of pokeweed mitogen. Some derangement in the concanavalin A generation of specific IgA suppressor cells was found in 11 out of 25 relatives. These results are, though in lower frequency, similar to those seen in patients and suggest that the IgA-immunological abnormalities observed are genetic markers, even if they cannot by themselves explain the pathogenesis of the IgA nephropathy. The absence of IgA immune complexes seen in relatives as well as their high prevalence in patients suggest that in predisposed subjects other factors (genetic or not) are required for the development of IgA nephropathy.

11073 Background: Immunosuppressive regulatory T lymphocytes (Tregs) have been proved to play a critical role in immune tolerance to tumor. In this study we have analyzed the expression of 11 genes related to Tregs in both tumor and stroma samples of resectable NSCLC patients. Methods: Primary tumor tissues of FFPE samples from 125 early-stage NSCLC patients were used in this retrospective study. The most representative areas of tumor cells and tumor stroma of each sample were carefully micro-dissected. RTqPCR using hydrolysis probes (TaqMan, Applied Biosystems) was performed to assess the expression of Treg markers such as: CD127, CD25, FOXP3, CTLA-4, IL-10, TGFB-1, LAG-3, GITR and TNF-a as well as CD4 and CD8. Relative gene expression was assessed using GAPDH and CDKN1B as endogenous controls and results were normalized against a human cDNA (Clontech) as a reference. All statistical analyses were considered significant at p< 0.05. Results: In both tumor and stroma, we found over-expression of CD25 (5.40X and 7.95X, respectively) and down-expression of CD127 (0.28X and 0.37X, respectively). There was a tendency toward higher expression of FOXP3 (1.67X and 2.01X, respectively) and CTLA-4 (1.92X and 1.76X, respectively) as well.
