Acid dissociation constants of acetoacetanilide (AAAH); acetoacet-o-toluidide (AATH); 2,4-acetoacetxylidide (AAXH); acetoacet-o-chloroacetanilide (CAAAH); acetoacet-o-anisidide (OAAAH); benzoylacetanilide (BAAH) and benzoyl-m-nitroacetanilide (NBAAH) have been determined potentiometrically in 50 per cent ethanolic media and at a fixed ionic strength (0·1) over the temperature range 12 to 42°C. From these results, the values of the free energy change (ΔG), enthalpy change (ΔH) and entropy change (ΔS) have been calculated for the ionization process. The values of pKm (minimum pKa values at temperature θ°C) have also been calculated.
