This article inquires into how rejected asylum seekers and returning migrants feel and make sense of their (im)mobility. Focusing on the emic concept of taqdeer (destiny), it explores how Pakistani migrants affectively experience and interpret restrictive mobility regimes. The article contextualises the value of destiny in the lives of irregularised migrants, (rejected) asylum seekers with an order to leave, as well as those who return under such circumstances. It explores how perspectives, narratives and feelings of destiny form an integral part of their lived experiences: How a shared understanding of taqdeer primarily serves as a means to communicate affective states but also serves as an important way to accept or contest diverse situations of (im)mobility, experiences of irregularisation and return. I argue that taqdeer is an integral part of the affective economy of (return) migration and often aids people in meaning-making and provides them with a way to engage with the vulnerabilities and gendered burdens of irregularised migration and return. The concept of destiny furthers ethnographic understanding of the intimate entanglement of the bureaucratic and divine dimensions of (im)mobility in the lives of irregularised Muslim migrants. Nanotechnology is imperative among the various scientific fields that encompass the contemporary science dealing with the manipulation of structures and particles in the range of 1–100 nm. Broad applications of nanoparticles are investigated by scientists, such as opto-electrical, chemical, medical, environmental, energy sector, etc. Plant-based molecules have been reported to enhance the significance of nanoparticles and their applications owing to the presence of diverse capping and reducing agents. Biogenic route or the Green nanotechnology is clean, nontoxic and eco-friendly, which deserves huge recognition. Three of the most commonly synthesized and reported nanoparticles are of gold, zinc, and copper oxide. This review article details the recent advances in the biogenically synthesized Au, Zn, and Cu oxide nanoparticles. Released in 1992, the Australian film Romper Stomper provoked a storm of controversy. Writer/director Geoffrey Wright’s portrayal of neo-Nazi skinheads targeting Vietnamese Australians in Melbourne created unease because it was unclear where the filmmaker’s sympathies lay. Did the film condemn its skinhead characters or, if inadvertently, justify their racist views and behaviour? This article unpacks the film’s ambivalent portrayal of its central protagonists by placing it in historical context, focusing particularly on the filmmaker’s insistence that Romper Stomper is a film about class. Building on scholarship on the history of working-class youth subcultures and the emerging field of global White nationalism, it examines Wright’s feature debut as (in his words) a kind of “proletarian tragedy” to argue that the film offers rare insight into a violent, bigoted, disenfranchised sector of the population and helps illuminate aspects of broader socioeconomic, political and cultural changes taking place in Australia in the 1980s and early 1990s. Objective: To evaluate the distribution of histological grades of breast cancer and its association with HER2/neu expression. Study Design: Cross-sectional study. Period: March 2024 to August 2024. Setting: Oncology, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Karachi, Pakistan. Methods: Patients diagnosed with breast carcinoma, with complete records for molecular subtype and hormone receptor status, and no history of recurrent, metastatic, or multiple cancers. Exclusion criteria were patients who refused participation, had benign lesions, or received neoadjuvant chemotherapy prior to presentation, were analyzed. Demographics, tumor site, histological grade, stage at diagnosis, and hormone profile of the patients were documented using a structured questionnaire. Results: In a total of 286 patients, 233 (81.5%) were over 40 years old, while 164 (57.3%) were overweight or obese. There were 257 (89.9%) patients who belonged rural areas of residence. The family history of breast cancer was noted among 42 (14.7%) women. A significant percentage of participants were HER2/neu positive, with expression varying across different tumor grades. Almost all patients with Grade I, Grade III, and Grade IV tumors were HER2/neu positive (100%, 99%, and 100%, respectively), while a slightly lower percentage was observed in Grade II tumors (95.9%). Conclusion: The nearly ubiquitous HER2/neu positivity observed across most tumor grades, with only a slight reduction in Grade II tumors, underscores the high prevalence of HER2/neu expression in this population. Routine HER2/neu testing in Pakistani breast cancer patients seems important, irrespective of tumor grade, for prognosis and treatment decisions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

In this study, we have synthesized facile Cu‐based CuO:Er2O3 nanoelectrode material for energy storage and generation. CuO:Er2O3 nanomaterial was synthesized employing phyto‐extract of Amaranthus viridis L. (AVL) as stabilizing and reducing agents. Spherical‐shaped CuO:Er2O3 nanomaterial was initially employed to study supercapacitor behavior. The specific capacitance of 82.25 F/g was found at 0.5 A/g by galvanostatic charge–discharge, whereas the value of 319 F/g was achieved at 2 mV/s by cyclic voltammetry (CV) measurements. Furthermore, CuO:Er2O3 electrode was investigated for water splitting energy generation potential and revealed an overpotential value of 323 mV at 10 mA/cm2 for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). However, for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER), an overpotential value of 370 mV was found. The electrochemical impedance analysis revealed the faster flow of electrons and ions, suggesting great conductivity and lower resistance of the fabricated electrode. Thus, current electrochemical results are proposing CuO:Er2O3 as an competent electrode for overall energy‐generating as well as storage applications. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Field-based tests of aerobic fitness that can be administered quickly and do not require maximal effort are desirable. The purpose was to develop and validate quarter-mile walk tests for 10–13-year-olds. Participants (N = 59) walked one mile on two different days. Walk times, heart rates, body mass, physical activity, and aerobic fitness were assessed. Multiple regression was used to develop models to estimate VO2max. Quarter-mile walk models provided estimates of aerobic fitness that were similar in accuracy to previously published walk tests. The recommended model that balances accuracy and ease of administration was: VO2max = 119.691–(13.744*quarter-mile walk time [min])–(0.168*heart rate), R=.73, SEE = 6.84 mL·kg−1·min−1. Walk times, heart rates, and estimated VO2max values were highly reliable. The walk tests developed provide valid estimates of VO2max, are easy to administer, and could be particularly useful for unmotivated or overweight children when this equation is confirmed with a larger sample in group testing conditions. Background: Tirzepatide is a novel dual glucose-dependent insulinotropic peptide (GIP)-glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist being evaluated for the treatment of various metabolic disorders. We performed a meta-analysis of randomized data on the effects of tirzepatide on serum lipid levels. Methods: We systematically searched the PubMed and ClinicalTrials.gov databases for relevant data from randomized controlled clinical trials. All articles were screened, reviewed, and extracted by at least two independent authors, with conflicts resolved by consensus. Four hundred and thirty-three records were identified in the initial literature search; 18 of them were identified for full-text review, and 14 of those were systematically reviewed and included in the analysis. The meta-analysis was performed using an inverse variance random-effects model. Results: Fourteen articles that reported data from 13 randomized controlled clinical trials were included in the review. Nine trials had a low risk of bias, two had a moderate risk, and two had a high risk of bias. The pooled analysis showed that tirzepatide was efficacious at improving all lipid markers, including cholesterol and triglycerides. Moreover, a clear dose response trend was visible across results from groups taking 5, 10, and 15 mg of tirzepatide. Conclusion: There is growing evidence to support the use of tirzepatide in patients with metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes mellitus, metabolic syndrome, and obesity. Our results demonstrate that tirzepatide significantly improves all aspects of patient metabolism and might be superior in this regard to conventional agents such as insulin formulations or traditional GLP-1 agonists. Objective: To assess the impact of four cycles of anthracycline chemotherapy on left ventricle ejection fraction in breast cancer patients. Study Design: Analytical Observational, Cohort study. Setting: Department of Oncology, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center, Karachi, Pakistan. Period: July 2023 to August 2024. Methods: A total of 56 patients with histologically confirmed BC cases of any age group were analyzed. A sample size of 56 was determined using OPENEPI, with a 95% confidence interval and 80% power. Data were collected through a predefined proforma, covering demographic information, breast cancer details, echocardiography findings (specifically left ventricular ejection fraction [LVEF]), and doxorubicin side effects. Treatment involved use of doxorubicin with LVEF measured at baseline and after four cycles of drug. Results: In a total of 56 patients, the mean age was 47.07±11.69 years. The baseline LVEF was 62.86±2.77%, which decreased to 60.50±5.32% after four treatment cycles. Comorbid conditions like hypertension, and a combination of hypertension and diabetes were noted in 32.1%, and 10.7% patients, respectively. All four drug cycles were administered to 92.9% of patients, with 14.3% requiring treatment discontinuation due to adverse events. Conclusion: Patients with elevated baseline LVEF levels tend to sustain higher LVEF levels after undergoing chemotherapy. These results emphasize the significance of vigilant LVEF monitoring in breast cancer patients treated with anthracycline chemotherapy, to enhance the management of potential cardiotoxicity. Background: The literature on fatigue in children and adolescents undergoing cancer treatment is highly variable, creating uncertainties about its prevalence and identifying those at higher risk. Objectives: The primary purpose was to describe the prevalence of fatigue among patients (< 21 years) undergoing cancer treatment across cancer types. Secondary outcomes included the prevalence of severe fatigue and factors associated with fatigue. Methods: Systematic searches of MEDLINE, Embase, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, CINAHL, and PsycINFO were conducted from inception to May 22, 2023. Two reviewers independently identified relevant citations and extracted data. Pooled prevalence estimates were derived using an inverse variance, random‐effects model. We used Joanna Briggs's critical appraisal checklist to assess study quality. (PROSPERO: CRD42020179307). Results: We included 47 studies: 26 for prevalence and 29 for factors associated with fatigue. The pooled prevalence of fatigue was 73% (95% [Confidence Interval, CI: 66%–79%; I2 96%; 26 studies; 2699 patients], and severe fatigue was 30% [95% CI 14%–46%, I2 98%; 8 studies; 1027 patients]). Subgroup analyses based on cancer type, study design, fatigue scale, fatigue reporting personnel, sample frame, and response rate did not reveal significant differences in fatigue prevalence. Fatigue prevalence significantly differed by treatment setting (inpatient [83%] vs. outpatient [55%] vs. inpatient and outpatient [69%]; p: 0.02). Due to considerable heterogeneity among studies, data on fatigue‐associated factors are presented descriptively. Conclusions: The prevalence of fatigue among children and adolescents undergoing cancer treatment is variable but notably high. Systematic evaluation of factors associated with fatigue is essential to understanding which children are at high risk of developing fatigue. Reverse osmosis and microfiltration are two membrane-based separation techniques that have gained popularity over the past few decades. A fundamental barrier to improving the overall efficiency of membrane separation is membrane fouling. The accumulation of foulants causes a reduction in permeate flux, a loss of selectivity and permeability, and a reduction in the membrane's lifespan. Numerous chemical and physical surface changes have been studied to enhance membrane antifouling properties. Additionally, research has concentrated on creating membranes that use cutting-edge materials to improve their antifouling capability. This paper focuses on a wide-ranging and thorough analyses of the different types of fouling during wastewater treatment based on current research results regarding fouling control strategy and the potential of new methods for wastewater treatment. Introduction Despite poor agreement, neighbourhood income is used as a proxy for household income, due to a lack of data availability. We quantified misclassification between household and neighbourhood income and demonstrate quantitative bias analysis (QBA) in scenarios where only neighbourhood income is available in assessing income inequalities on colorectal cancer mortality. Methods This was a retrospective study of adults with colorectal cancer diagnosed 2006–14 from Statistics Canada's Canadian Census Health and Environment Cohort. Neighbourhood income quintiles from Statistics Canada were used. Census household income quintiles were used to determine bias parameters and confirm results of the QBA. We calculated positive and negative predictive values using multinomial models, adjusting for age, sex and rural residence. Probabilistic QBA was conducted to explore the implication of exposure misclassification when estimating the effect of income on 5-year mortality. Results We found poor agreement between neighbourhood and household income: positive predictive values ranged from 21% to 37%. The bias-adjusted risk of neighbourhood income on 5-year mortality was similar to the risk of mortality by household income. The bias-adjusted relative risk of the lowest income quintile compared with the highest was 1.42 [95% simulation interval (SI) 1.32–1.53] compared with 1.46 [95% confidence interval (CI) 1.39–1.54] for household income and 1.18 (95% CI 1.12–1.24) for neighbourhood income. Conclusion QBA can be used to estimate adjusted effects of neighbourhood income on mortality which represent household income. The predictive values from our study can be applied to similar cohorts with only neighbourhood income to estimate the effects of household income on cancer mortality. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Circuit influences on the midbrain dopamine system are crucial to adaptive behavior and cognition. Recent developments in the study of neuropeptide systems have enabled high‐resolution investigations of the intersection of neuromodulatory signals with basal ganglia circuitry, identifying the nociceptin/orphanin FQ (N/OFQ) endogenous opioid peptide system as a prospective regulator of striatal dopamine signaling. Using a prepronociceptin‐Cre reporter mouse line, we characterized highly selective striosomal patterning of Pnoc mRNA expression in mouse dorsal striatum, reflecting the early developmental expression of Pnoc. In the ventral striatum, Pnoc expression in the nucleus accumbens core was grouped in clusters akin to the distribution found in striosomes. We found that PnoctdTomato reporter cells largely comprise a population of dopamine receptor D1 (Drd1) expressing medium spiny projection neurons localized in dorsal striosomes, known to be unique among striatal projection neurons for their direct innervation of midbrain dopamine neurons. These findings provide a new understanding of the intersection of the N/OFQ system among basal ganglia circuits with particular implications for developmental regulation or wiring of striato‐nigral circuits. The sustainable and ecofriendly synthesis of transition metal oxide‐based nanomaterials has always been a matter of concern. In this study, a bioinspired synthesis route was adopted to synthesize ZrO2‐Zr3Er4O12‐based mixed nanomaterial using leaf extract of medicinal plant Amaranthus viridis as reducing and stabilizing agent in replacement of the obnoxious chemicals which are a great threat to the sustainable environment. The synthesized material revealed the spherical shaped morphology through scanning electron microscopy, whereas crystal size of 15.7 nm was observed through Xray‐diffraction, and band gap value of 2.7 eV was acquired using Tauc plot. Newly synthesized ZrO2‐Zr3Er4O12 nanocomposite was then investigated for its role as electrocatalyst in a generation of energy through the hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen evolution reaction. The ZrO2‐Zr3Er4O12‐based electrocatalyst showed better potential for hydrogen evolution reaction measurements with the overpotential value of 242 mV. Furthermore, the notable capacitance value of 495.6 F/g was obtained through cyclic voltammetry for energy storage studies. The cyclic stability was also analyzed using linear sweep voltammetry and results showed promising stability for 2000 cycles. Consequently, the green and economical synthesis route as well as promising electrochemical behavior of ZrO2‐Zr3Er4O12‐based electrode make it feasible choice for large scale application. In September 2024, the Social Weather Stations (SWS) reported that 22.9 percent of Filipino households experienced involuntary hunger—being hungry and not having anything to eat—at least once in the past three months. This paper focuses on the surveys of Philippine hunger conducted by the SWS for over two decades. The SWS is a pioneering nonstock, nonprofit, and nonpartisan research organization that regularly surveys various aspects of human well-being in the Philippines, such as hunger and poverty. The methodology of SWS’ quarterly surveys has been standard and consistent over time. All original raw datasets are archived without permanent embargo period and are open to academic researchers. From 1998, there have been 107 statistically representative national surveys of hunger among Filipino families. The paper showed the trends in hunger rates quarterly from 1998 to 2024. It also compared hunger rates among the National Capital Region, Balance Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. Since SWS surveys include other topics on well-being, the paper analyzed hunger rates among the self-rated poor and nonpoor Filipino families, including those who are self-rated food poor and not food-poor. This story from the field describes the experiences of 11 early childhood education centers in Philadelphia that were part of a project to implement Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS). It tells of the many challenges they faced during the COVID-19 pandemic and calls for racial equity and social justice and how these events impacted early childhood education providers. The authors highlight the resilience and adaptability of these centers and of the PBIS external facilitator team in adapting to the new normal.
