A method of cutting coal with three drums was advanced, a three-drum shearer was designed, and the free mode and restrained model under prestress of the third drum were analyzed in large mining with ANSYS Workbench 14.0 to solve the damage problem of the cutting blade in a large mining face. The vibration modes caused by its own structural characteristics are obtained, and the dynamic response of all parts of the shearer is studied with MATLAB R2016a software under given conditions and the change of the parameters. The overloads of the front drum give rise to larger vibration displacements that should be avoided in the operation of the shearer. The above approach is of importance to evolve the design concepts and improve cutting characteristics of the largeheight shearer, to provide theoretical backgrounds ensuring safe and reliable mining of superthick coal seams by the large-height shearer.

Injection molding is widely used in plastic product manufacturing process. The product quality and the cost-effectiveness highly depend on the cooling step in the molding process. Thanks to the development of additive manufacturing techniques, conformal cooling channel (CCC) becomes a promising alternative for channel design. In this paper, three CCCs with different profiles and the same aspect ratio are designed for cooling a plastic product in its manufacturing process. The thermal and mechanical performance is presented by ANSYS Workbench. The simulation results are validated by the experimental data. The cooling performance under different coolant flow rate and different inlet temperature are simulated and compared. The thermal results show that compared with conventional straight channel, the designed CCCs can shorten the cooling time ranging from 10% to 57.1% and the temperature distribution of the plastic product is uniform as well. The mechanical results show that the fatigue life and von Mises stress of the designed CCCs can meet the industrial operating requirement.

In recent years, the overriding purpose of Automobile Industries has transformed into altering the design features of an automobile regularly, for instance, the chassis, braking system, Air-bag Control Unit (ACU), and others. The predominant motive is to mitigate the probability of susceptible injuries during varying impacts of collision ascribed to increasing average Global Road Crash Rate of 3700 deaths per day. To initially alleviate the fatality rate, experimental and virtual analysis study the car dynamics, velocity, repercussions of a vehicle collision, crash sensors, and personal injuries. The empirical crash analysis utilizes the Anthropomorphic Test Device (ATD), a.k.a “dummies” to ensure the profound protection of design aspects in crashworthiness and crash compatibility for auto-mobiles. The dynamic analysis employs progressive soft-wares viz. Hyper-crash, LS-DYNA, ANSYS Workbench, and Radioss for simulation to contemplate real-world evaluation. This Literature review study serves as the guidance for future generations to scrutinize the significance of crash analysis on diverse testing circumstances and studies.

Front axle beam is a very important component of a vehicle, it carries about 35–40 per cent of the total load on the vehicle. It experiences fatigue loading due various factors such as engine vibrations, bumps on the road, etc. therefore it becomes very crucial to design and analyse the axle for its fatigue life. In this work, Siemens NX is used to perform the 3D modelling of front axle beam of a heavy-duty truck (TATA Tipper) and then analysis for fatigue life of the axle beam is done using ANSYS workbench. The analysis is done for 5 different materials which are, 50 steel, AISI 1045, AISI 4130, AISI 4140 and AISI 4150. These materials are suitable to design the axle beams as they have desired properties for better fatigue life of the axle. The analysis is first done without a crack and then with a crack. Finally, the materials are compared based upon their performance.

Rohacell foam and Honeycomb cores have been widely applied in aerospace engineering as the core materials of sandwich structures. This paper proposes a study to compare the flexural response between two types of sandwich structures, one with Rohacell 71-Hero foam core and the other with OX-Honeycomb core, both laminated with E-Glass Epoxy as face-sheet panels. Both sandwich structures were subjected to Four Point Bending Test to determine the flexural response in each case. The maximum failure load was recorded in each case along with the type of failure. Analytical model of the foregoing sandwich beam was developed on ANSYS Workbench, in which the Tsai-Wu failure criteria is used to predict failure under load in both sandwich structures with Rohacell and Honeycomb cores. The results of both sandwich structures obtained experimentally as well as analytically were compared to understand the nature of failure under load.

The essential of car wheel rim is to provide a firm base on which to fit the tyre. Its dimensions, shape should be suitable to adequately accommodate the particular tyre required for the vehicle. In this project a tyre of car wheel rim belonging to the disc wheel category is considered. The wheel rim is model by using SOLIDWORKS 2016. By using this software, the risk involved in the design and manufacturing process can be easily minimized. So the modeling of the wheel rim is made by using SOLIDWORKS. Later this wheel rim modal is imported to ANSYS WORKBENCH 16 for analysis work. ANSYS WORKBENCH 16 is the latest software used for simulating and also calculating the different properties and viewing the results. ANSYS WORKBENCH 16 static structural analysis work is carried out by considering four different aluminium alloys namely 6061 and 6066, their relative performances have been observed respectively. In addition to wheel rim is subjected to modal analysis, part of dynamic analysis is carried out its performance is observed. In this analysis by observing the results of both static and dynamic analysis obtained best material is suggested for making an effective rim structure.

One of the emerging flexible forming technologies in the sheet metal engineering is the incremental sheet forming, it uses universal tooling that is mostly part independent. Hence this process provide higher flexibility reducing the product development greatly and making it useful for low volume production. Single Point Incremental forming is drawing attention of the researchers & scientist all over the world because of the attractive characteristics. Like: improved formability, elimination of die & conventional press and ease of operation on general purpose Vertical Machining Centre. As this way of creating sheet metal formed products is in development stage, the factors affecting this needs comprehensive investigations. In this paper experimental and numerical investigation of formability of Aluminium 8011 alloy are presented and compared by preparing a conical frustum shape using SPIF process. The complete process is simulated using CATIA manufacturing simulation model to generate the path of Hemispherical end tool tip. Numeric Control (NC) part program is generated with the help of this simulated path to form the sheet into conical frustum shape on CNC mill machine. Four process parameters viz. vertical step depth, feed rate, spindle speed and angle of cone are chosen for the experimental investigations keeping height of the cone and material sheet thickness constant. Temperature, thickness reduction, strain and machining time are selected as a response variable. Optimizations are performed using TAGUCHI and ANOVA while the numerical study of the process is performed through ANSYS workbench software to predict stress, strain, temperature and thickness Results of experiments and numerical study are in close accord.

Among the various metal forming forms ECAP is one method in which nano crystalline and ultrafine grain metal and amalgams are formed. This method is used for high strain super plasticity in the material by grain refinement to the nano or submicron level, without changing the dimensions of work piece. In this process metal is forced to pass repeatedly through the specially designed channel die with intersectional channel for different angels. The modeling of the die and the billet was done through SOLIDWORKs 2017 and quantitative analysis was done through ANSYS workbench 15.0 software. The result was compared with practical results for different channel angle and it was observed that the ideal parameters for most extreme homogeneity in strain can be accomplished with channel angle Φ = 90 0 , corner angle Ψ = 15 0 and coefficient of friction μ = 0.25.

This work presents the Static and Dynamic Analysis of Smart Functionally Graded Beams. Analysis has been performed by the finite element (FE) method for separate boundary conditions and loading. The effectiveness of piezoelectric material integrated onto the functionally graded (FG) beams is evaluated. The functionally graded beam is understood to be graded all along its thickness following power law distribution technique. Simulation models are developed in the ANSYS Workbench environment. Discretisation of the model is performed using an appropriate 20 node quadratic element (SOLID 226). The constitutive relation of piezoelectric material depends on coupling among elasticity and electric effect. Various static and dynamic analyses are carried out using different power law constants and boundary conditions. The observations are validated with the values reported in papers published by earlier researchers. Effects of boundary conditions as well as material properties are studied. The results are also compared among those for functionally graded beams and smart functionally graded beams for both static and dynamic analyses

Increasing demand for automobiles is one of the major trends witnessed in the global market. To meet the needs of a customer and to provide customer satisfaction research is going on to modify the existing products or replacing old products with new and advanced material products. Many modifications have taken place to improve the suspension system of a vehicle. In the automobile industry, the suspension system is one of the major research areas and especially leaf springs design play a crucial role in providing suspension to the vehicle. Leaf Spring absorb shocks and bump loads and takes vertical loading to give comfortable experience to the passengers travelling in the wheeled vehicle. In this work, a new leaf spring modelled, a static and transient analysis performed. This leaf spring developed by introducing EPDM rubber in between the steel leaves, which is a synthetic rubber and exhibits hyperelastic nature. Hyperelastic materials are widely used for diverse structural applications in a variety of industries. Femur bone is the longest and strongest bone in the human body which is also known as thigh bone. The femur is responsible to bear the largest percentage of body weight during normal weight its length is 25% of the person’s total height. In this, a normal femur bone is reconstructed from DICOM files from CT scan using software 3D slicer and Blender. Meshing and Analysis are carried out in Ansys Workbench environment. Based on the weak zone areas that are obtained after a sudden a load is applied are taken as our zone of interest. Considering the zone of interest prosthetic plates and screws are modelled using Unigraphics NX 11.0 version and are assembled in the assembly module of the same software. This paper focuses on improving the seismic behavior of step back building by incorporating fibers at beam column joints. The beam column joints at the step back buildings are the critical positions which suffer more damage when acted upon by earthquake forces. In this paper, an analytical study is carried out by using modified concrete at the beam column joints alone. The modified concrete is prepared by adding steel fibers and PV fibers in varying percentages. A step back building is selected and is modeled in ANSYS Workbench, a transient analysis is carried out using the accelerogram of El – Centro earthquake as the loading. The dynamic responses of the building with modified concrete at beam column joints are compared with a conventional building to study the effectiveness of fiber incorporation in improving the seismic performance. The material properties of the modified concrete required for carrying out the analysis are obtained by carrying out experiments. Hysteresis loops are generated using ANSYS for comparing the energy dissipation capacity of fiber incorporated concrete with various percentages of fibers. The study shows that incorporating fibers into concrete has improved the seismic performance of the building by prolonging the time which it can withstand a particular earthquake.

Isolation of vibrations from the building during a seismic event is a proven practice to reduce damage to buildings. This paper studies the effectiveness of a new technique of vibration isolation. A modified concrete layer with damping characteristics is provided around the footing to isolate the building from the vibrations during an earthquake. The modified concrete is prepared by using varying percentages of crumb rubber and steel slag as a replacement to fine aggregates. Apart from providing the modified concrete as a confining layer, modification is done to the structural material in footing itself and is investigated for its effectiveness in improving the seismic performance. A multi-storeyed building is selected, modeled in ANSYS Workbench, modified concrete is incorporated in two different ways in and around footing and the seismic responses are compared with that of a conventional building without any modifications. Accelerogram from El – Centro Earthquake is used as the input loading. The material properties required for the analysis is obtained by conducting experiments. The energy dissipation capacity of the modified concrete with various percentages of fibres is studied using the hysteresis loops generated in ANSYS. Both the techniques showed a improvement in the seismic performance, providing the modified concrete as a structural material exhibited better results. Sleel slag modified concrete has better energy dissipation capacity than crumb rubber.

Damages that happen to any structure during any seismic event can be reduced by imparting inherent damping properties to building elements. Researches have proven that natural fibres exhibit inherent damping capacity. Incorporating the natural fibres to building elements is one way in which damping can be imparted to any building. In building with shear walls, shear walls serve as a major lateral load resisting element when subjected to earthquake loading. This paper studies the effectiveness of incorporating natural fibres to a shear wall in improving the seismic performance. The fibres selected for the study are flax fibre and coconut fibre. These fibres in various percentages are used to modify the shear wall. Hysteresis loops are generated using ANSYS for various percentages of these fibres to study about the energy dissipation capacity of the modified concrete. A building with shear wall is selected, modelled in ANSYS Workbench incorporating the fibres in shear wall alone. A transient analysis is done with El - Centro Earthquake data as the external loading and the responses are compared with that of a building without any modified concrete. The material properties which are required for the analysis in ANSYS Workbench are obtained by conducting experiments. Incorporating the fibres showed a better seismic response than a conventional building without any fibre inclusion, Coir fibre performing better than flax fibre.

The Free vibration response of the Railway Bogie is an important area in the design of the Rail coach and to improve the ride comfort of the passengers. In this study, the railway Bogie considered is Fabric Italina de Automobil Torino, Switzerland (FIAT) Bogie of Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) AC 3 Tier coach. This paper aims at the study of the vibration response of a FIAT Bogie of coach subjected to free vibration and to find the Natural frequencies of vibration and mode shapes. The geometric model FIAT Bogie and other related components is modelled using Solid works 2016 package and analyzed using numerical simulation package ANSYS 19.1 Workbench. The Primary and Secondary suspension systems and various dampers used in FE analysis are modelled as spring and damper elements respectively. In this work, free vibration analysis or modal analysis of the FIAT railway bogie is carried out to extract the first few modes of vibration. The Natural frequencies obtained along with the corresponding mode shapes of the bogie show that they are within the permissible range specified by the standards of railway department also for better ride comfort of the passenger.

Survival of industries has become more critical in the present global competitive business environment unless they produce their projected production levels. The accomplishment of this can be possible only by maintaining the men and machinery in an efficient and effective manner. Hence, it is more essential to estimate the performance of utilized equipment for reaching/achieving future goals. The present study focuses on the estimation of underground mining machinery such as the load–haul–dump machine performance characteristics using ‘Isograph Reliability Workbench 13.0’ software. The allocation of best-fit/goodness-of-fit distribution was made by utilizing the Kolmogorov–Smirnov test (K–S) test. The parameters were recorded based on the best-fitted results using the maximum likelihood estimate test. Further, a feed-forward-back-propagation artificial neural network (ANN) tool has been used to develop the models of reliability, availability and preventive maintenance time intervals. The number of neurons was selected with the Levenberg–Marquardt learning algorithm in the hidden layer as the optimal value. The output responses were predicted corresponding to the optimal values. Further, an attempt has been made to validate the computed results with ANN predicted responses. The recommendations are suggested to the industry based on the results for the improvement of system performance.

The Crane is one of the heavy equipment in an industry. In the LAPAN Garut office, Crane is used for the rocket assembly process. The study examines the fatigue life prediction of Crane structures using the finite element method. Crane structure design uses Autodesk Inventor Professional 2017, while finite element analysis uses Ansys Workbench 2019 R1. Crane structure is subjected to a load of 10 tons with a fully-reserved type of loading. Fatigue life prediction using Gerber's mean stress theory. Crane structure material is Aluminum alloy. Simulation results show that the Crane structure has a minimum fatigue life of up to 1,971 x 10 6 cycles with a minimum safety factor of 1,106.

Purpose This paper aims to reveal the authors’ conceptual and experimental work on an innovative avionics paradigm for small unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Design/methodology/approach This novel approach stipulates that, rather than being centralized at the autopilot, control of avionics devices is instead distributed among controllers – spread over the airframe span, in response to avionics devices’ natural location requirements. The latter controllers are herein referred to as edge controllers by the first author. Findings The edge controller manifests increased efficiency in a number of functions, some of which are unburdened from the autopilot. The edge controller establishes a new paradigm of structure and design of small UAVs avionics such that any functionality related to the periphery of the airframe is implemented in the controller. Research limitations/implications The research encompasses a workbench prototype testing on a breadboard, as the presented idea is a novel concept. Further, another test has been conducted with four controllers mounted on a quadcopter; results from the vertical attitude sustenance are disclosed herein. Practical implications The motivation behind developing this paradigm was the need to position certain avionics devices at different locations on the airframe. Due to their inherent functional requirements, most of these devices have hitherto been placed at the periphery of the aircraft construction. Originality/value The current paper describes the novel avionics paradigm, compares it to the standard approach and further reveals two experimental setups with testing results.

Stiffened and unstiffened fillet-welded tube-to-transverse plate connection details are widely used for mast-arm and base-plate connections for highway sign structures. However, due to repetitive wind loads, cyclic fatigue stresses are induced and they are the primary source of failure in welded connections at these locations. The resistance of fatigue critical details has been an on-going research topic because of limited experimental results and the variability in existing fatigue testing results. The main objective of this study is to evaluate fatigue resistance of fillet-welded tube connection details by utilizing the advanced fatigue tool in ANSYS Workbench platform. Finite Element (FE) models development and model validation using existing test data was presented. The resulting fatigue resistance from FE analysis was expressed in terms of fatigue life, fatigue damage, and fatigue safety factor to determine the fatigue performance of fillet-welded connections. Existing fatigue test data was grouped to perform a synthetic analysis and then analysis results were provided to determine input data and fatigue limit for the fatigue module. The local stress level at fatigue critical locations was evaluated using a static FE model for different number of stiffeners and boundary conditions. The results of this investigation provides fatigue resistance of fillet-welded connection details in the form of fatigue life, fatigue damage and safety factor for various connection parameters and structural conditions.

At present, the task of industrial growing of diamond single crystals of instrumental purpose using six-punch cubic-type high-pressure apparatuses has been actively studied. Experimental determination of the temperature distribution in the growth volume takes a lot of time and effort, so it is rational to use computer modeling. Using the ANSYS Workbench software package, a three-dimensional numerical simulation of the resistance heating processes of a six-punch HPA was developed and its testing was carried out using the example of spontaneous synthesis of diamond crystals in such an apparatus. The temperature fields of the growth cell of a six-punch high-pressure apparatus were calculated for growing diamond single crystals by the temperature gradient method, on the basis of which an optimal scheme for heating the growth volume was developed. Experiments were carried out on the growth of diamond single crystals in a six-punch HPA with a cycle time from 48 to 96 hours and the characteristics of the obtained crystals are given.

The edge-curved ice spoon is a wooden tool to eat ice cream, and the machine tool adopted to chamfer and deburr the unformed curved edge ice spoon is called surface-taking machine (chamfering machine). In the course of cutting, the results are primarily dependent on the speed of cutter shaft. In order to guarantee the quality of the spoon, scraping-edge device of the surface-taking machine is anatomized and designed, and the working principle of the surface picking machine is introduced. The cutting force is analyzed from theoretical and experiential perspectives. The device is modeled in the SolidWorks and simulated by ADAMS to attain time-varying curves of scraping-edge device displacement and contact force of the cam and wheel. The modal analysis of the cutter shaft is carried out on ANSYS Workbench, the vibration frequency and vibration mode of the former six steps are attained, and the critical speed of the cutter shaft is calculated to determine the rotational speed of the cutter shaft, which effectively avoids the resonance zone and ensures the effective operation of device. Additionally, the actual production and processing are able to lay a theoretical basis.

Straightening by transverse bending followed by hardening by surface plastic deformation based on transverse spinning of cylindrical parts by flat plates is suggested to restore the shape of distorted low-rigidity cylindrical parts, such as shafts and axles. The Ansys Workbench software package is used to estimate the state of stress in a cylindrical part during transverse straightening. The distributions of the working and residual stresses over the cross section of a cylinder are obtained as a function of the relative reduction.

In this paper, a shock absorber is designed and analyzed which is useful for damping shock impulse and dissipating kinetic energy. Shock absorber is a critical part of the suspension system, which is used to connect the vehicle to the wheels. The purpose of the work is to model a shock absorber which will be able to improve the ride quality by reducing the amplitude of disturbances caused by a bump road. Shock absorber is designed in CREO software. Analysis of shock absorber was performed by using ANSYS software and this analysis helps to predict the shock absorber failure when an external load acts on it.

This work is focused on the topical problem of developing efficient software tools to design intelligent systems, in particular, integrated expert systems (IESs), which have powerful functionality and scalable architecture. Automated planning methods are employed to facilitate IES development at the design and requirement analysis stages. General problems of developing a modern software tool base for IES design are discussed. In this context, the intelligent software environment of the AT-TECHNOLOGY workbench for IES development based on the problem-oriented methodology is described. The problem of planning the IES prototyping process is investigated, which forms the basis for implementing the basic components of the intelligent software environment (intelligent planner and technological knowledge base). An automation method based on heuristic search is proposed. The use of the intelligent software environment is illustrated by the development of a dynamic IES prototype for controlling and planning medical resources in serious road traffic accidents.

This study focuses on the drop foot case related to hyperthyroidism of the ankle joint resulting in the relaxation of the toes during walking. This condition requires treatment using an ankle–foot orthosis. Traditional orthosis techniques lack precision and depend on the skill of the fabricator. This research aims to make a bias in ankle–foot orthosis design and analysis methods, where a complete methodology of numerical design and testing has been proposed using advanced engineering software. A numerical model of the patient’s foot was generated and used to design an ankle–foot orthosis model using SolidWorks. The designed model was mechanically analyzed by the finite element method using ANSYS Workbench 16.1 under different static and dynamic loading conditions. The ankle–foot orthosis model was numerically designed and analyzed before the manufacturing process. This is believed to reduce time and material loss and foster the use of numerical models in biomedical applications. This study suggests focusing on the design and analysis of orthoses according to the patient’s measurements. This is expected to increase the comfort and raise the level of treatment. Numerical design methods also enable precise manufacturing using computerized devices such as three-dimensional printers.

The technique of modeling the cutting process when sharpening structural steel (steel 45) is presented. The 3D finite element simulations of machining are conducted using commercial code ANSYS Workbench. For the simulation of plastic deformation and failure of the materials, a Johnson-Cook model is used as constitutive equation to describe behavior of material during cutting process. This model takes into account the effects of the kinematic hardening and adiabatic heating of the deformable material. To model separation of chip from the workpiece, the Johnson–Cook (J–C) damage criterion is used. In the suggested model, the value of feed is taken into account as the width of the strip of the workpiece for modeling workpiece. As a result of modeling, the stress and strain fields for both the workpiece and the tool are presented, as well as the thermal field of the chip and the machined piece. The results are compared and evaluated with the experimental results; they are similar and do not contradict the traditional theory of the metal cutting. The proposed method of modeling allows to study the stress-strain state and thermal distributions of the cutting process, chip formation conditions and prediction of the quality of finished surface.

Sasis merupakan bagian penting dari sebuah kendaraan, yang membentuk kerangka dari sebuah kendaraan. Sasis harus cukup kaku untuk menahan kejutan, twist, getaran dan tekanan lainnya. Pertimbangan penting dalam desain sasis adalah memiliki kekakuan lentur yang memadai disertai kekuatan untuk karakteristik handling yang lebih baik. Oleh karena itu tegangan maksimum, dan defleksi merupakan kriteria penting untuk desain sasis. Tujuan kajian ini untuk menentukan desain paling optimal dari ketiga desain sasis tipe C, I dan Rectangular Box (Hollow). Mendapatkan ketebalan sasis paling minimum pada sasis bus tipe Rectangular Box (Hollow) dari metode optimasi ASO dan MOGA. Serta membandingkan hasil optimasi yang didapatkan dari kedua metode optimasi tersebut. Pada kajian ini digunakan 2 jenis software yaitu software CAD (SOLIDWORKS 2015) untuk pembuatan model sasis bus dan software Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS Workbench v.16) untuk melakukan simulasi pembebanan static structural dan optimasi. Hasil pada kajian ini menunjukan bahwa tegangan maksimum terjadi pada cross section C besar tegangan 73,235 Mpa, dan defleksi sebesar 1,5455 mm. Hasil analisis pembebanan statik menunjukan bahwa desain tipe Rectangular Box (Hollow) jauh lebih optimal daripada tipe C ataupun I. Berdasarkan optimasi pada sasis bus tipe Rectangular Box (Hollow) dengan dua metode tersebut, hasil terbaik menggunakan metode ASO dengan nilai massa optimum sebesar 682,57 kg (persentase penurunan massa sebesar 1,224 %) dengan equivalent (von-misses) stress sebesar 53,557 MPa dan total deformasi sebesar 1,1847 mm. Sedangkan hasil optimasi metode MOGA, massa hasil optimasi sebesar 686,83 kg dengan equivalent (von-misses) stress 53,517 MPa dan total deformasi sebesar 1,1809 mm. Terjadi penurunan massa sebesar 0,608%.

Personalized multipeptide vaccines are currently being discussed intensively for tumor immunotherapy. In order to identify epitopes-short, immunogenic peptides-suitable for eliciting a tumor-specific immune response, human leukocyte antigen-presented peptides are isolated by immunoaffinity purification from cancer tissue samples and analyzed by liquid chromatography-coupled tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Here, we present MHCquant, a fully automated, portable computational pipeline able to process LC-MS/MS data automatically and generate annotated, false discovery rate-controlled lists of (neo-)epitopes with associated relative quantification information. We could show that MHCquant achieves higher sensitivity than established methods. While obtaining the highest number of unique peptides, the rate of predicted MHC binders remains still comparable to other tools. Reprocessing of the data from a previously published study resulted in the identification of several neoepitopes not detected by previously applied methods. MHCquant integrates tailor-made pipeline components with existing open-source software into a coherent processing workflow. Container-based virtualization permits execution of this workflow without complex software installation, execution on cluster/cloud infrastructures, and full reproducibility of the results. Integration with the data analysis workbench KNIME enables easy mining of large-scale immunopeptidomics data sets. MHCquant is available as open-source software along with accompanying documentation on our website at https://www.openms.de/mhcquant/ .

Time-critical applications, such as early warning systems or live event broadcasting, present particular challenges. They have hard limits on Quality of Service constraints that must be maintained, despite network fluctuations and varying peaks of load. Consequently, such applications must adapt elastically on-demand, and so must be capable of reconfiguring themselves, along with the underlying cloud infrastructure, to satisfy their constraints. Software engineering tools and methodologies currently do not support such a paradigm. In this paper, we describe a framework that has been designed to meet these objectives, as part of the EU SWITCH project. SWITCH offers a flexible co-programming architecture that provides an abstraction layer and an underlying infrastructure environment, which can help to both specify and support the life cycle of time-critical cloud native applications. We describe the architecture, design and implementation of the SWITCH components and describe how such tools are applied to three time-critical real-world use cases.

Studies on improving the performance of clean and renewable energy, such as those focusing on concentrated solar energy, have intensified in recent years. This research paper studies the effect of the cylindrical cavity thermal receiver shape on the performance of a small scale solar Brayton cycle application. Moreover, it determines the optimum shape of the studied receiver configuration. Following on from the previous studies conducted by the research group, which outlined the importance of decreasing the overall heat losses, the current study specifically deals with the optimization of a small scale cylindrical shape. With the aim of minimizing the convective mode of heat loss, the receiver shape was developed using CFD analysis and surface optimization techniques were applied and analysed using the ANSYS Workbench software package. Results showed that the most influential parameter on the value of the heat transfer coefficient is the internal height and the two edges located on the bottom width of the receiver. The outcomes of this study showed a significant improvement in the thermal performance of the investigated shape, through decreasing the heat transfer coefficient by up to 23%.

The use of FRP composites as external confinement has recently become a very important system to consider when reinforcing concrete and steel structures. Many constitutive models have been proposed to design such structures. However, the emergence of artificial neural network offers a better alternative with a strong prediction capability. In this research, an artificial neural network (ANN) based model is used to estimate the compressive strength, maximum stresses and strains of AFRP strengthened circular hollow section steel tubes under axial compression. A database of 129 cases of finite element model (FEM) was analyzed using ANSYS Workbench 19.0 and ACP Tool. The FEM was validated with a previously done experimental test. Different geometric criteria have been taken into account to better address the complexity of the problem. Using this FEM database, ANNs have been trained using two approaches. The first approach was using the neural network toolbox in MATLAB. The second approach was using a built-in neural network tool in ANSYS Workbench. The successfully trained ANN is further used to predict the new cases, as an alternative to FE Analysis. Following, a parametric study and a sensitivity analysis were also carried out to investigate the effect of different parameters on the load capacity. The predicted results of the ANN models show a good correlation with the experimental and FEM results. Moreover, comparative analysis of performance result reveals that the ANSYS-ANN had better accuracy in terms of mean squared error and regression value (R2) compared to MATLAB-ANN. The ANN is quite an efficient tool in determining the strength of the AFRP strengthening steel tubes. Such a technique can be used to reduce computation time and labor.

The intended form of relatively flexible cylindrical parts (shafts and axles) may be restored by straightening by flexure under a distributed load, with subsequent strengthening of the workpiece by surface plastic deformation based on transverse rolling between flat plates. It is well known that the nonequilibrium stresses are generated in the whole workpiece after straightening by transverse flexure, and the part is eventually deformed again. Therefore, the workpieces should be additionally straightened with surface plastic deformation after straightening by flexure. We use transverse rolling by flat plates for that purpose. The aim in the present work is to determine the capture conditions and the stress state of the workpiece in transverse rolling of cylindrical parts between flat plates. The mathematical analysis is based on the theory of an elastoplastic solid; ANSYS Workbench software is employed. A new method is proposed for control of stress state in straightening of cylinderical workpieces. The limiting capture angle α ranging 2–8 degrees and the maximum absolute reduction depending on friction coefficient and on the diameter of workpiece are obtained. The optimum reduction varies ΔH = 0.07–0.15 mm. The calculation data show that the stress state of uniform extension occurs at the center in the workpiece cross section after transverse rolling, and the stress state of reduction is formed at the peripheral areas of the workpiece. The straightening method of transverse rolling between flat plates eliminates crack formation and destruction of the material in the central area of the cylindrical parts.

This work presents modeling, driving and classical speed control techniques for the switched reluctance motor. The aim is to improve the computational model, the control response and the machine efficiency. A parametric regression model was used to find the inductance profile of the switched reluctance motor and from the new inductance profile model. The drive and control techniques are shown: (i) with speed control acting on the excitation voltage and fixed switching angles, (ii) with speed control acting on the switching angles and fixed excitation voltage and (iii) with speed control acting on the excitation voltage, in this case, with dynamic switching angles and controller parameters. The inductance profile is represented by expression and inserted into the machine computer model, allowing greater precision and low computational cost. The speed control acting on the excitation voltage with dynamic controller parameters and dynamic switching angles allowed: (i) shorter response time for a wide range of control, (ii) higher efficiency, (iii) low computational cost and (iv) simplified implementation and maintenance. The techniques proposed in this work obtained precision of the computational model with respect to the system (in workbench) and optimized parameters in a wide range of the speed control, allowing an improvement of switched reluctance motor efficiency.

Empirical work on English historical corpus linguistics is plentiful but fragmented, and some of it is hard to come by. This paper proposes a solution for making it more accessible and reusable for meta-analysis. We present an online Language Change Database (LCD), which provides comparative, real-time baseline data from earlier corpus-based studies. LCD entries summarize the findings and include numerical data from the articles. We discuss the LCD from the perspective of database design and linked data management. Furthermore, we illustrate the reuse of LCD data through a meta-analysis of the history of English connectives. For this purpose, we have developed an application called the LCD Aggregated Data Analysis workbench (LADA). We show how researchers can use LADA to filter, refine and visualize LCD data. Thus we are paving the way for a future where both research results and research data are regularly available for verification, validation and re-use.

For straightening of low-rigid cylindrical details like shaft and axes different types of loadings are considered which form tension different in size and in distribution. As the perspective direction, it is possible to consider correction by a bend at the influence of the distributed loading with the subsequent hardening of a billet by superficial plastic deformation based on a cross cheesing of it by flat plates. Purpose of the work was to define tension of the billet at cross correction for the choice of more effective type of loading and processing rational modes. The mathematical apparatus was used based on laws of the theory of an elastoplastic solid and Ansys Workbench software package. Novelty is the research of effective methods of loading at cross correction of cylindrical details. As a result of analytical calculations, value of the residual tension providing correction of cylindrical details was determined. Residual tension necessary for correction of cylindrical details depends on an initial deflection, material and preparation rate. Tension of cylindrical details was defined depending on a type of the application of cross loadings. Bend tension for correction of a shaft at distributed loading is less, than tension from action of cross force. For correction of a shaft with a diameter of 10 mm, 200 mm long and an initial deflection of 0.5 mm it is necessary to create bend tension equal to about 370 MPa. An effective method of loading at cross correction of cylindrical details is the bend at influence of the distributed loading. The received extreme values of bend coefficients are from 5.3 to 5.5 for all cases of shaft rigidity at correction by cross bend at distributed loading with l/L relation equal to 0.8. The developed mathematical model gives quite reliable values of the residual tension providing correction of cylindrical details. The analytical dependence for determination of the size of general deflections and definition of an effective loading type can be recommended for practical use in production for achievement of precision accuracy of low-rigid details like shaft.

Panel Level Packaging (PLP) is a next-generation semiconductor packaging technology which has productivity and cost competitiveness. However, warpage issue is needed to be solved for successful product which occurs during packaging process. Warpage is occurred by a coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) difference between each material, and this warpage should be minimized. In this study, warpage issue of the PLP induced by molding process and detaching process is investigated. Warpage simulation and optimization are carried out by the ANSYS Workbench. In order to figure out which constituent material critically affects warpage problem, single element is adjusted in the range of properties. After then, the selected influential elements are adjusted to figure out optimized values for meeting the process requirement of warpage.

Background. Monolithic zirconia is an emerging material for crowns and bridges. The possibility of full digital design has made it an attractive alternative material for implant-supported prostheses. A proper design is vital in the success of such a prosthesis like any other. This study, in the shortage of scientific evidence, has tried to assess the stress distribution of occlusal forces inside the implant-prosthesis system of a 3-unit bridge made of monolithic zirconia. Methods. A 3-unit monolithic zirconia bridge supported by two implant fixtures placed on the teeth #13 and #15 was digitalized. It was converted to a mesh of 59000 nodes and 34000 elements. Five types of occlusal forces (one as vertical centric, two at 15º and 30º simulating canine pattern of lateral movement, and two at 15º and 30º simulating group function pattern) were applied. The stress distribution among all the components of the implant-bridge system was assessed using Ansys Workbench 14 software and finite element analysis. Results. The maximum stress was between 286 and 546 MPa, which were found in either the fixture‒abutment screw area or in the upper part of the pontic connector between the canine and first premolar. The maximum pressure increased with an increase in the angle of occlusal force. Significantly higher stress was recorded in the group function occlusal pattern. Conclusion. Monolithic zirconia can be promising in designing bridges in the canine‒premolar area. However, proper design is necessary with more attention to the connectors and types of occlusal forces.

The present work has been carried out to study the effect of the varying the load at different materials (Aluminium Alloy 7075-T6, stainless steel 305 and Structural Steel 345w) on deflection. The simply supported beam has been subjected to varying load 5000N - 10000N and cantilever beam has been subjected to varying load 500N-1000N. The result obtained is in form of Directional Deflection and Equivalent Stresses. This analysis is done by the ANSYS Workbench 15.0 software under the static structural analysis further this result has been optimized using TAGUCHI METHOD using MINITAB17.

Relatively flexible cylindrical parts (shafts and axles) may be straightened by loads produced by different stresses in different distributions. A promising method is straightening by flexure under a distributed load, with subsequent strengthening of the workpiece by surface plastic deformation based on transverse rolling between flat plates. The goal in the present work is to determine the stress state of the workpiece in transverse straightening so as to select the best type of load and treatment conditions. The mathematical analysis is based on the theory of an elastoplastic solid; ANSYS Workbench software is employed. Effective methods of loading in the transverse straightening of cylindrical parts are determined. Analytical calculations yield the residual stress corresponding to straightening of the cylindrical parts. The residual stress required for straightening depends on the initial flexure, the material in the workpiece, and its size. The stress state of cylindrical parts is determined for different types of transverse loading. The flexural stress for straightening of a shaft under a distributed load is less than the stress due to a transverse force. To straighten a rod (diameter 10 mm, length 200 mm) with initial flexure 0.5 mm, flexural stress of about 370 MPa must be created. In the transverse straightening of cylindrical parts, flexure under the action of a distributed load is an effective loading method. Limiting flexural coefficients of 5.3–5.5 are obtained for all values of the shaft rigidity in straightening by transverse flexure under a distributed load when l/L = 0.8. The proposed mathematical model correctly determines the residual stress corresponding to straightening of the cylindrical parts. The formula derived for calculating the total flexure and determining the effective load may be recommended for practical use in production conditions so as a ensure precise straightening of relatively flexible parts such as shafts.

In this paper, a novel approach for online design of optimal control systems applied to the bulk resumption process by bucket wheel reclaimer (BWR) is presented. This approach is based on reinforcement learning paradigms, more specifically Action Dependent Heuristic Dynamic Programming (ADHDP), that learn online in real-time the Discrete Linear Quadratic Regulator (DLQR) optimal control solution with integral action. Due to the geometric irregularities of the storage yard stacks and variation in physical and chemical characteristics of the stacked material, the flow control of solid bulks by bucket wheel reclaimer requires methods that are suitable with the high degree of imprecision of process variables and environment uncertainties. The resumption of bulk solids is carried out by dividing the stack into layers, each layer is approximately 4 m high, and the layers are divided into workbenches up to 12 m in length. To take up a workbench several translation steps are required (penetration in the stack), with the translation step varying from 0 to 1 m. In order to maintain the desired ore flow throughout the process, the BWR lance speed must be periodically adjusted. The main advantage of the proposed control method is that besides the decision rule is fully independent of plant model, the gains of the resulting controller are self-adjustable. The control system was designed in such a way that the ADHDP-based DLQR controller with integral action would act in real-time in the plant control, using only the input and output signals and states measured along the system trajectory.

In this paper, the authors describe an approach for sharing sensitive medical data with the consent of the data owner. The framework builds on the advantages of the Semantic Web technologies and makes it secure and robust for sharing sensitive information in a controlled environment. The framework uses a combination of Role-Based and Rule-Based Access Policies to provide security to a medical data repository as per the FAIR guidelines. A lightweight ontologywas developed, to collect consent from the users indicating which part of their data they want to share with another user having a particular role. Here, the authors have considered the scenario of sharing the medical data by the owner of data, say the patient, with relevant persons such as physicians, researchers, pharmacist, etc. To prove this concept, the authors developed a prototype and validated using the Sesame OpenRDF Workbench with 202,908 triples and a consent graph stating consents per patient.

This paper presents an unsupervised method for recognizing assembly work done by factory workers by using wearable sensor data. Such assembly work is a common part of line production systems and typically involves the factory workers performing a repetitive work process made up of a sequence of manual operations, such as setting a board on a workbench and screwing parts onto the board. This study aims to recognize the starting and ending times for individual operations in such work processes through analysis of sensor data collected from the workers along with analysis of the process instructions that detail and describe the flow of operations for each work process. We propose a particle-filter-based factory activity recognition method that leverages (i) trend changes in the sensor data detected by a nonparametric Bayesian hidden Markov model, (ii) semantic similarities between operations discovered in the process instructions, (iii) sensor-data similarities between consecutive repetitions of individual operations, and (iv) frequent sensor-data patterns (motifs) discovered in the overall assembly work processes. We evaluated the proposed method using sensor data from six workers collected in actual factories, achieving a recognition accuracy of 80% (macro-averaged F-measure).

In order to improve the cutting rigidity of hydrostatic oil pad on large vertical lathes’ vertical rail of hydrostatic ram, on the basis of a single-chamber oil pad, this paper proposed a new type of the double-chamber oil pad. Pressure field distribution law of the single-chamber and the double-chamber oil pad was obtained by the finite element volume method. Then, using the fluid–structure coupling method and Workbench software the deformation law of ram was obtained under different working conditions. Finally, oil film’s prediction model of the single-chamber and the double-chamber oil pad was solved under different working conditions. Oil film’s prediction model of the single-chamber oil pad and the double-chamber oil pad was obtained under various working conditions. The results show that the maximum deformation of the single-chamber of upper oil pad ranges from 0.079 to 0.92 µm, while the double-chamber oil pad ranges from 0.07 to 0.68 µm. The maximum deformation of the single chamber of lower oil pad ranges from 0.91 to 9.21 µm, while the double-chamber oil pad ranges from 0.74 to 9.14 µm, and the maximum deformation of the double-chamber oil pad is less than that of the single chamber, which shows that the rigidity of the double-chamber oil pad is better than that of the single chamber. The results are helpful to improve the bearing performance and service life of bearings.

This newsletter affords a new analytic calculation for the shovel–dumper combination in open cast limestone mine evolution of the only and two galaxy probability density function (PDF). To broaden a nonparametric PDF for a combination of shovel and dumper in an open cast limestone mine, the ancient failure statistics which includes time between failure (TBF) of a shovel and dumpers had been accumulated from the mine. Primarily based on the collected TBF, Weibull parameters which include the shape parameter (β), scale parameter (η), and location parameter (γ) have been calculated under the K–S test (Kolmogorov–Smirnov test) using Isograph Reliability Workbench (RWB). In addition, the artificial neural network (ANN) version has been developed to predict the PDF for the same shovel–dumper system and compared with the real acquired fee of RWB. It was found that the values of RMSC and R2 had been 5.96e−5 and 0.999 for PDF. The statistical effects showed that the proposed Reliability Isograph Workbench and PDF version correctly predicts PDF for the shovel–dumper system.

Background Due to the restriction of display mode, in most of the virtual reality systems with multiple people in the same physical space, the program renders the scene based on the position and perspective of the one user, so that other users just see the same scene, resulting in vision disorder. Methods To improve experience of multi-user co-located collaboration, in this study, we propose a fire drill system supporting co-located collaboration, in which three co-located users can collaborate to complete the virtual firefighting mission. Firstly, with multi-view stereoscopic projective display technology and ultra wideband (UWB) technology, co-located users can roam independently and watch virtual scenes through the correct perspective view based on their own position by wearing dedicated shutter glasses, thus carrying out different virtual tasks, which improves the flexibility of co-located collaboration. Secondly, we design simulated firefighting water-gun using the micro-electromechanical system sensor, through which users can interact with virtual environment, and thus provide a better interactive experience. Finally, we develop a workbench including a holographic display module and multi-touch operation module for virtual scene assembly and virtual environment control. Results The controller can use the workbench to adjust the virtual layout in real time, and control the virtual task process to increase the flexibility and playability of system. Conclusions Our work can be employed in a wide range of related virtual reality applications.
