Questions: Maintaining forest species diversity, regenerative function and ecosystem resilience begins with successful seedling establishment. Despite their critical role, seedlings face the highest mortality risks among plant life‐history stages. Our research aims to answer the following questions: In a tropical forest disturbed by typhoons, what is the median survival time for seedlings, to what extent do light levels contribute to mortality risks and what are the crucial mortality risks across seedling age groups? Location: A tropical mountain zonal foothill evergreen broad‐leaved forest in Nanjenshan Nature Reserve, Taiwan, frequently visited by typhoons. Methods: We investigated woody seedlings in 75 quadrats (each 1 m × 1 m) every 3 months from October 2009 to January 2018, spanning 8.3 years with 34 censuses. We used the Kaplan–Meier method to estimate seedlings' median survival time and Generalized Linear Models to identify mortality risk factors for all seedlings and those that persisted beyond the median survival time. Results: The median survival time for all seedlings was 0.5 years, ranging from 0.25 years for shade‐intolerant species to 1.25 years for shade‐tolerant species. Seedlings germinated in high‐light microhabitats and high conspecific seedling density exhibited higher mortality probabilities, regardless of age. Conclusions: This study reveals the short survival time and key mortality risks of seedlings in a typhoon‐disturbed forest. Mediterranean lagoons face a significant threat due to the prevalent risks of eutrophication and dystrophy, particularly in sectors with limited water renewal. The El Mellah Lagoon in northeastern Algeria represents a crucial ecosystem. Our study focused on assessing its operational state by examining the seasonal variability of spatial patterns indicative of eutrophication. Our primary hypothesis posited that a lack of fluctuation in spatial pattern expression reflects ecosystem dysfunction in the face of eutrophication-related disturbances. Our objective was to establish that the El Mellah Lagoon maintains robust health, capable of recovering or sustaining dynamic equilibrium following periods of instability induced by external or internal disruptions. To achieve this, we employed a methodology combining multidimensional analysis (utilizing STATIS from the K-TABLE family) and spatial analysis (employing Moran's I and ordinary Kriging interpolation). Statistical analyses of physicochemical and biological measurements revealed seasonal variations in key eutrophication parameters. The first principal components derived from the STATIS analysis underwent spatial analysis techniques. Climate change is interacting with water resource pressures to alter the frequency, severity and spatial extent of drought, which can thus no longer be considered a purely natural hazard. Although particularly severe ecological impacts of drought have occurred in drylands, its effects on temperate ecosystems, including rivers, are also considerable. Extensive research spanning a diverse range of UK rivers offers an opportunity to place the effects of past drought in the context of intensifying climate change and to examine the likely effects of future drought in a typically cool, wet country. Here, drought manifests instream as deficits in surface water, modified flow velocities, and—increasingly—partial or complete drying of previously perennial and naturally non‐perennial reaches. As a result, drought causes declines in the taxonomic and functional biodiversity of freshwater communities including microorganisms, algae, plants, invertebrates and fish, altering ecological processes and associated benefits to people. Although freshwater communities have typically recovered quickly after previous UK droughts, an increase in drought extremity may compromise recovery following future events. The risk of droughts that push ecosystems beyond thresholds to persistent, species‐poor, functionally simplified states is increasing. Research and monitoring are needed to enable timely identification of rivers approaching such thresholds and thus to inform interventions that pull these ecosystems back from the brink. Management actions that support natural flow regimes and promote natural processes that diversify instream habitats, including drought refuges, are also crucial to support biodiversity within functional river ecosystems as they adapt to a changing world. Combining ecological resilience theory with a phenomenological epistemology, we explored experiential, social, and cultural factors mediating resilience‐building with participants from a village destroyed by the 2018 Fuego volcanic eruption in Guatemala. The purpose of the study is to find out what strategies displaced families and communities employ for living through the aftermath of a volcano eruption and for building psychological resilience. We conducted semistructured interviews with nine survivors of the Fuego eruption, now relocated and coping with the loss of community and family members killed in the disaster. Interpretive phenomenological analysis was used to analyze transcripts. The analysis produced four main themes: (i) individual and collective challenges, (ii) social support and protection, (iii) faith and culturally endorsed belief, and (iv) looking to the future. As well as learning more about how a community faced challenges presented by a volcano eruption, the current study has a degree of transferability, with implications for understanding how other communities experience and cope with such events. Aquaculture is the world's fastest growing food sector and accounts for more than 50% of the world's fish food supply. The significant growth in global aquaculture since the middle of the 20th century has been dubbed by the Blue Revolution. However, it is not the first Blue Revolution to take place in human history. While historically classified as low-ranking, seasonal, or starvation resources in the archaeological discourse, marine foods were vital resources that ancient communities developed and exploited using a vast array of strategies. Among these aquatic strategies was aquaculture. This first Blue Revolution was initiated during the Early Holocene, some 8,000 years ago in China, with archaeologists now documenting aquaculture across the globe. This review considers the commonalities between ancient aquacultural systems including evidence of ecosystem engineering and the development of domesticated landscapes as production systems. People of the past constructed agroecosystems to not only enhance and diversify aquatic resources, but to control the reliability of key subsistence foods and to meet the demands of ritual practice and conspicuous social stratification. These aquaculture systems were maintained for centuries, if not millennia. Ecosystem services (ES) in Mediterranean regions are critically affected by forest fires, which pose significant threats to human reliance on these services. This study delves into the post-fire dynamics of ES, emphasising the distinct recovery processes in seeders dominated and resprouters dominated systems. By integrating an ecosystem service capacity matrix with transition matrices, we analysed the temporal recovery patterns of ES after fire disturbances under conditions corresponding to southern France Mediterranean-Type Ecosystems. In seeders dominated environments, recovery is gradual, with services like carbon sequestration and soil quality taking up to 87 years to regain 90% of their capacity post-high-intensity fires. Conversely, resprouters dominated systems show rapid regrowth, with carbon sequestration recovering in as little as 23 years following similar disturbances. Our findings highlight the variable recovery timelines across different ES. Pollination and wild plants display remarkable resilience, with recovery times not exceeding 2 years regardless of fire severity. However, provisioning services such as game provision exhibit lower resilience, requiring up to 67 years for recovery. Cultural services, reflecting emblematic and symbolic values, demonstrate greater resilience, with recovery spanning 3 to 51 years. Demographic processes that ensure the recovery and resilience of marine populations are critical as climate change sends an increasing proportion on a trajectory of decline. Yet for some populations, recovery potential remains high. We conducted annual monitoring over 9 years (2012–2020) to assess the recovery of coral populations belonging to the genus Pocillopora. These populations experienced a catastrophic collapse following a severe typhoon in 2009. From the start of the monitoring period, high initial recruitment led to the establishment of a juvenile population that rapidly transitioned to sexually mature adults, which dominated the population within 6 years after the disturbance. As a result, coral cover increased from 1.1% to 20.2% during this time. To identify key demographic drivers of recovery and population growth rates (λ), we applied kernel‐resampled integral projection models (IPMs), constructing eight successive models to examine annual change. IPMs were able to capture reproductive traits as key demographic drivers over the initial 3 years, while individual growth was a continuous key demographic driver throughout the entire monitoring period. IPMs further detected a pulse of reproductive output subsequent to two further Category 5 typhoon events during the monitoring period, exemplifying key mechanisms of resilience for coral populations impacted by disturbance. Despite rapid recovery, (i.e., increased coral cover, individual colony growth, low mortality), IPMs estimated predominantly negative values of λ, indicating a declining population. Indeed, while λ translates to a change in the number of individuals, the recovery of coral populations can also be driven by an increase in the size of surviving colonies. Our results illustrate that accumulating long‐term data on historical dynamics and applying IPMs to extract demographic drivers are crucial for future predictions that are based on comprehensive and robust understandings of ecological change. Global ocean warming and extreme climate events pose a severe threat to marine biodiversity by inducing species redistribution and ecosystem reorganization. It is important to quantify the impacts of marine heatwaves (MHWs) on marine cetacean habitats to avoid rapid ecosystem shifts. Here we utilized detected breakpoints and early warning indicators derived from sightings data spanning from 2009 to 2021 to assess the distribution change of Indo-Pacific humpback dolphin (Sousa chinensis). We found that (1) during the 2014 MHWs, the encounter rates (number of on-effort sightings per 100 km) of humpback dolphins in Hong Kong waters significantly decreased, with the breakpoint occurring during the autumn of 2014; (2) Since 2014, Hong Kong waters have experienced more prolonged and frequent MHWs, with a significant reduction of core habitat by 26%; according to Granger causality analysis, changes in sea surface temperature drove shifts in dolphin distribution; (3) Our analysis revealed a co-existence of rapid annual increases in MHWs and high habitat usage, with the marine park located in Southwest Lantau being particularly at risk. This study on dolphin distribution shifts and their relationships with marine heatwaves in Southern China made a contribution to our understanding of the action of marine cetaceans' response to climate change. Coastal cities facing growing flood risks are increasingly focused on resilience. Academic and policy discourse present a resilience-based approach to governing hazards as more collaborative, better connecting threats, systems, and actors. Literature on governance networks, collaborative governance, and networks of plans suggests collaboration enhances resilience, but empirical studies of the relationship between governance networks, networks of plans, and resilience policies are limited. This study addresses this gap by examining collaboration patterns and plans in the context of flood resilience in four U.S. cities (Fort Lauderdale, Baltimore, Boston, and Seattle). We use surveys and social network analysis to assess collaboration within the cities' flood governance networks. We analyze cities' networks of plans using three approaches: (1) plan quality evaluation, (2) plan cross-referencing, and (3) the spatial distribution and flood resilience impact of policies. We find that higher quality plans and those that integrate flood information are more likely to have policies reducing flood risk. Plans that are more connected to other plans also have higher plan quality scores and more flood information. The impacts of climate change-related stressors are becoming more noticeable in the ocean, particularly in coastal marine ecosystems. Yet limited information still exists on the physiological state and ecological resilience of marine fish species, especially during their early life stages (i.e., larvae and juveniles). The present study investigated the effects of chronic exposure to seawater warming (OW; ΔT = +4 °C) and acidification (OA; ΔpH = −0.3 pH units, equivalent to pCO2~1000 µatm), acting alone or combined (OWA), on juvenile zebra seabream (Diplodus cervinus) physiological resilience, considering distinct levels of biological organization (i.e., biochemical, cell, organ and individual levels). After 60 days of exposure, both stressors, in isolation or combination, significantly decreased specific growth rate (−11% in OW, −42% in OA and −49% in OWA) and leukocyte counts (from −29% in OA and OWA up to −37% in OW) in relation to the control treatment. In addition, a decreased Fulton's condition index (K) was observed under warming and acidification in combination (−35% in OWA). At the cell level, OW, OA and OWA triggered different biomarker responses in D. cervinus (i.e., up-regulation, down-regulation, or absence of significant effect). In general, the results are suggestive of an antagonistic effect when warming and acidification are combined. OWA yielded the highest integrated biomarker response (IBR) index value in the whole organism, muscle, brain and gills of D. cervinus juveniles, therefore suggesting that the effects of these stressors are more severe when they act together. The distinct patterns observed in each stress scenario highlight the importance of carrying out further studies adjusted to the specificities of different regions, i.e., accounting not only for the type and degree of severity of environmental stressors already felt and/or projected for that specific area, but also the physiological plasticity of species that inhabit a particular ecosystem. Drought can cause significant disruption to forest ecosystems and may have long‐term impacts on the structure and function of ecosystems after the end of drought. This is the key to quantifying the ability of ecosystem to respond to disturbance events by comprehensively analyzing the impact of drought on vegetation, the lagged effect, and ecosystem resilience to drought. This article takes broad‐leaved forests and coniferous forests in multiple temperature zones of China as the object of study, using distributed lagged nonlinear model (DLNM) to construct a systematic method. Our results show that the main sensitive lagged time for coniferous forests and broad‐leaved forests is the first 3 months in various temperature zones, with the strongest lagged effect in the month when the drought incidents occur. Coping capacity represents ecosystems to remain stable during droughts, and we quantified the indicator by the ratio of the resistance (the difference between NDVI value before the drought and during the drought) to recovery (the difference between NDVI value after the drought and during the drought). When dealing with intensive drought events, the coping capacity of subtropical broad‐leaved forests (−0.67) and tropical broad‐leaved forests (−0.88) exhibit the strongest coping capacity (value tends to −1). Overall, vegetation growth in subtropical and tropical regions is less affected by drought compared to temperate and cold temperate zones. Rangeland restoration in southern Africa faces complex challenges that require the involvement of diverse social groups to ensure both ecological and social sustainability. This systematic review focuses on the role of social inclusion in rangeland restoration across multiple countries in the region, specifically examining the engagement of marginalized groups such as women, youth, and indigenous communities. We conducted a comprehensive search using the PRISMA approach, utilizing Scopus and other literature sources. Initially, we found 853 articles published between 2000 and 2024, which were subsequently screened down to 20 studies that met stringent inclusion criteria. This review identifies key strategies and outcomes associated with social inclusion in restoration efforts. Our findings reveal that participatory planning, gender-inclusive strategies, indigenous engagement, and capacity building are crucial for gaining community support, promoting social equity, and enhancing ecological resilience. However, challenges such as power dynamics, cultural norms, and resource constraints often impede the full realization of these inclusive practices. Despite these barriers, integrating local and indigenous knowledge and empowering marginalized groups significantly strengthens governance structures and leads to more sustainable restoration outcomes. Our review highlights the necessity of adopting holistic and inclusive approaches in rangeland restoration where social inclusion is not just a component but a central pillar of successful ecological management. It emphasizes the importance of social inclusion in the restoration of communal rangelands in southern Africa and provides insights into the approaches used, challenges faced, and outcomes achieved in incorporating social inclusion in rangeland restoration efforts. In the era of the digital economy (DE), the traditional economic growth paradigm is no longer applicable. To explore whether the DE can improve the urban ecological problems left behind by rough economic growth, this study examines the effects of land resource mismatch (LRM) on urban ecological resilience (UER) and evaluates the mitigating influence of the DE. This analysis utilizes data from 280 prefectural-level cities in China over the period from 2007 to 2021 and reveals that LRM significantly undermines UER, with this conclusion remaining robust across a series of tests. Additionally, the detrimental impact of LRM on UER is more pronounced in megacities, cities with high levels of economic development, and those with a lower degree of advanced industrial structure. In further analysis, this study finds that the digital economy can optimize the allocation of land resources, thereby enhancing urban ecological resilience, which has the effect of "treating the root causes". In addition, digital government and digital infrastructure, as key elements of the digital economy, also mitigate the negative impacts of land resource misallocation on urban ecological resilience, having the effect of "treating the symptoms". Finally, this study proposes policy suggestions such as optimizing ecological layout, deepening land reform, and promoting digital government and infrastructure construction to provide a theoretical basis and practical guidance for local governments to enhance UER and help build a new model of greener, more resilient, and sustainable urban development. Along with the rapid development of urbanization and industrialization, the carrying capacity of territorial space has been confronted with a serious crisis. Faced with many uncertain risks and unknown disruptions, it is important to proactively address the uncertainty of future developments in planning and to improve territorial spatial resilience (TSR). Based on the connotation of TSR, we build an assessment framework for TSR containing urban, agricultural and ecological space from three dimensions, including element, structure and function. Using a variety of methods such as the source-sink landscape index, land suitability assessment, and cropland pressure index, we assessed the TSR of the Yangtze River Economic Belt (YREB) from 2000 to 2020 and comprehensively analysed its spatial and temporal evolutionary characteristics. Through data analysis, we observe that the urban spatial resilience (RU) decreases and then increases, while the agricultural spatial resilience (RA) and the ecological spatial resilience (RE) show an increasing trend. The spatial clustering in TSR is apparent, and the distribution of hot and cold spots in RA and RE is reversed in the east–west direction. The changes in TSR are influenced by a combination of RU, RA and RE, which show unique geographical characteristics. Climate change poses significant challenges to ecosystems globally, demanding innovative methods for environmental conservation and restoration. Restoration initiatives require significant amounts of appropriate vegetation that is both adaptive and tolerant to the specific environmental factors. This study introduces an adaptive-vegetation model designed to support ecosystem resilience in the face of climate change. Traditional restoration methods often neglect dynamic environmental conditions and ecosystem interactions, but the model employs real-time data and predictive analytics to adapt strategies to evolving climate variables. The model takes a comprehensive approach, incorporating climate projections, soil health metrics, species adaptability, and hydrological patterns to inform restoration practices. By using a mix of adaptable native species, the model promotes biodiversity. In conclusion, according to the findings of our review, paludiculture and agroforestry could be implemented as models for improving climate resilience, particularly in tropical degraded peat swamp forests. These two models could improve the environment, the economy, and social functions. Finally, improving all three of these factors improves ecological stability. This adaptive-vegetation model represents a significant shift from static, uniform restoration approaches to dynamic, data-driven strategies tailored to specific environments. Migratory species have the potential to strongly mediate stability of resident communities. However, the seasonal nature of their interactions has limited integration into ecological theory likely due to the large temporal variability and spatial scales involved. Here, we develop a novel framework to partition community dynamics which have migrating species. We extend classical notions of resilience, which measure the rate of convergence to equilibrium, to seasonal systems switching between multiple equilibria using (hybrid) Lyapunov stability theory to capture "far from equilibrium" dynamics. Each transition to a new season consists of perturbation, with a stock imbalance inherited from the previous season. Our new resilience metric is defined from the recovery time following this transition required for the community to approach the new seasonal equilibrium. We apply our method to an Arctic tundra food web with distinct summer and winter dynamics and assess the resilience of the community to longer summer season lengths predicted by climate change scenarios. This simulation scenario emphasizes the relative importance of distinct food web topologies between seasons due to migration. Our study demonstrates the feasibility of developing a theory of species interactions in seasonal environments, with deep ramifications for central ecological concepts such as resilience. The wild service tree (Sorbus torminalis (L.) Crantz) is a rare and endangered species. The species is appreciated for its ecological value, drought resistance, wood parameters and ornamental value. In this study, we describe two common garden experiments of wild service tree established in Poland in spring 2012. The aim of the trials was to investigate the most valuable Polish provenances and, at the same time, to create such limited seed sources for this rare tree species. The survival rates between the trials, the provenances and the open-pollinated families during the first ten years of growth were analysed. The results showed that mortality in the first two growing seasons is most important and can be influenced by both environmental and genetic factors. The obtained results clearly showed how important are the first years after planting and how they influence the survival rate in the trials after 10 years of growth. The selection of suitable origins and families can improve the survival and adaptability of wild service tree seedlings, especially in the era of climate change. We also highlight the need to create seed sources for the species to support a broader integration of wild service tree into European forests, which will increase biodiversity and ecosystem resilience. Salt marshes have ecological and economic value, but shoreline development, the increasing rate of sea-level rise, and other human impacts have caused significant loss of salt marshes. As a result, restoration of these ecosystems is widespread. For restoration and management to be effective, it is imperative to improve our understanding of marsh-building plants that serve as the ecological foundation of these habitats. Given the observed differences in characteristics between populations of smooth cordgrass, Spartina alterniflora, restoration plantings may impact the biodiversity and resilience of restored ecosystems. Understanding differences in the structural and functional outcomes of active planting of restoration sites will enable the long-term success of restoration efforts to be improved. Natural and restored salt marshes in Long Island Sound were studied in 2021–2022 for S. alterniflora genetics, biomass, stem morphology, and faunal community composition. The average genotypic diversity of S. alterniflora was more than 4 times higher in restored than in natural marshes, and differentiation between each restored site and natural sites decreased with time. No difference was observed in live S. alterniflora belowground biomass; however, mean dead belowground biomass in natural marshes was more than 3 times greater than in restored marshes. Marsh platform invertebrates differed between the restored and natural sites, with natural marsh edge habitats having 9 times higher density of Geukensia demissa and 3 times as many crab burrows than in restored marshes, but there was no detected difference in species richness or abundance of nekton at high tide. With restoration practitioners seeking resilient, self-sustaining ecosystems, it is important to evaluate whether restored marsh characteristics are consistent with those goals and modify restoration planning accordingly to incorporate genetics, structure, and function. An increased interest in the resilience of complex socio-ecological and socio-technical systems has led to a variety of metrics being proposed. An overview of these metrics and their underlying concepts would support identifying useful metrics for applications in science and engineering. This study undertakes a scoping review of resilience metrics for systems straddling the societal, ecological, and technical domains to determine how resilience has been measured, the conceptual differences between the proposed approaches, and how they align with the domains of their case studies. We find that a wide variety of resilience metrics have been proposed in the literature. Conceptually, ten different quantification approaches were identified. Four different disturbance types were observed, including sudden, continuous, multiple, and abruptly ending disturbances. Surprisingly, there is no strong pattern regarding socio-ecological systems being studied using the "ecological resilience" concept and socio-technical systems being studied using the "engineering resilience" concept. As a result, we recommend that researchers use multiple resilience metrics in the same study, ideally following different conceptual approaches, and compare the resulting insights. Informal science learning centers (ISLCs) like zoos, aquariums and botanic gardens are trusted community assets and perceived as critical sites for learning outside the classroom for multigenerational learners. Moreover, their role in engaging the public in critical topics, such as climate change is widely recognized. As extreme weather events grow more frequent, building climate resilient social and ecological systems will be necessary. However, how ISLCs facilitate climate resilience is understudied. This paper presents findings from two qualitative case studies of climate resilience projects, through partnerships between community organizations and ISLCs. The results demonstrated the need to prioritize relationship building so that organizations with distinct approaches authentically appreciate each other's work and foster power symmetries. Diverse definitions of 'resilience' emerged, where ecological and social resilience held unique meaning for residents most vulnerable to climate events. Consumers can play critical roles in ecosystem resilience by modifying community resistance and recovery rates. In coral reefs, grazers can increase reef resilience by controlling algae and maintaining open space for coral recruitment, but can also erode the reef framework critical for coral recovery. Here we examine the context‐dependent effects of herbivores on reef persistence in Caribbean Panamá. Using a series of lab and field experiments, we found that the erosional effects of the herbivorous reef urchin (Echinometra viridis) were 2 orders of magnitude greater on dead corals than live corals, and surveys across multiple similarly overfished reefs revealed a positive relationship between urchin densities and percent cover of bare dead coral with urchin densities exceeding 150 m−2 in some reefs. However, we observed that a mat‐forming zoanthid (Zoanthus pulchellus), found exclusively on dead corals, had an inverse spatial relationship with urchins. Through a series of field experiments, we found that zoanthid overgrowth repelled urchins, increased dead coral persistence, and decreased erosion of dead corals making up the reef framework by more than 50% over a 22‐month period. Our findings reveal that zoanthids can provide associational refuge to dead corals by enhancing their persistence under high urchin grazing pressure. We suggest that secondary space‐holders, such as zoanthids, may play increasingly important functional roles in degraded reef systems by shielding coral skeletons from external bioeroders. Predicting forest cover change (FCC) and screening development scenarios are crucial for ecological resilience. However, quantitative evaluations of prioritizing forest change scenarios are limited. Here, we took five shared socio-economic pathways (SSPs) representing potential global changes, namely SSP1: sustainability, SSP2: middle of the road, SSP3: regional rivalry, SSP4: inequality, and SSP5: fossil-fueled development, which were constructed by integrated assessment and climate models. We modeled them with the patch-generating land use simulation (PLUS) and constructed a multi-dimensional landscape connectivity index (MLCI) employing forest landscape connectivity (FLC) indices to assess forest development in Fujian Province, Southeast China. The MLCI visualized by radar charts was based on five metrics, including forest patch size (class area (CA), number (patch density (PD), isolation (landscape division index (DIVISION), aggregation (mean nearest-neighbor index (ENN_MN), and connectance index, (CONNECT). The results indicate that FC will remain above 61.4% until 2030, with growth observed in SSP1 and SSP4. Particularly, FC in SSP4 substantially increased, converted from cropland (1140.809 km2) and grassland (645.741 km2). SSP4 has the largest MLCI values and demonstrates significant enhancements in forest landscape integrity, with CA, ENN_MN and CONNECT increasing greatly. This study examines how GDP, renewable energy, population, and industrialization affect ecological footprints in six Balkan nations from 1990 to 2022. The six Balkan countries are Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, Croatia, Romania, and Slovenia. The research applied the normality test, unit roots, and cointegration tests to conduct stationary testing. The study used three econometric tools: Pooled-OLS, Fixed-OLS, and D-GMM methods to get robust results. Findings show that GDP and squared coefficients support EKC. This means that the ecological footprint initially rises because of the rise in GDP; after specific points, the ecological footprint declines. Balkan countries fit the reversed U-shaped EKC hypothesis after achieving economic development. Surprisingly, renewable energy shows a positive coefficient, challenging the anticipated positive environmental impact. This underscores the necessity for comprehensive assessments of renewable technologies to minimize unintended consequences. Similarly, fossil fuel consumption exhibits a positive coefficient, affirming its detrimental impact on ecological resilience. While contributing to economic growth, industrialization demonstrates a positive coefficient on environmental resilience, suggesting the need for sustainable industrial practices. This study examines the relationship between the reclamation method (with topsoil and with bare rock), individual species, and land cover (woodland, grassland, and forbsland) on micro‐climate and retention properties, that is, volumetric water content (vwc) and water storage capacity (S). The large overburden dump "Sośnica" in Upper Silesia served as a research site, which makes it possible to investigate the planned experimental variants with relatively homogeneous properties of the deposited rock. The study uses statistical analysis and multilinear regressions to investigate the correlation between reclamation method, species, and land cover with parameters such as atmospheric temperature, relative humidity, vwc, soil temperature (st), and S. The experiments were carried out both in the field and in the laboratory. The results of this study indicate that the parameters related to retention properties were higher in the recultivated areas than in the areas left to natural succession. "S" was significantly higher in grassland and forbsland (15.67–16.52%) than in control plots where 10.23% was found, and in areas where an additional soil layer was applied (14.72%). Maximum vwc (22.17%) was on plots with topsoil than on bare rock (14.89%). Vwc were highest in the areas designated as grassland (28.54%), in comparison with woodlands and forblands (the control without vegetation cover had the worst thermal and retention properties). This study sheds light on the effects of reclamation method, species, and land cover on various parameters and helps to understand the importance of appropriate reclamation techniques for soil and water conservation. Diverse and complex microbiomes are found in virtually every environment on Earth. Bacteria and fungi often co-dominate environmental microbiomes, and there is growing recognition that bacterial-fungal interactions (BFI) have significant impacts on the functioning of their associated microbiomes, environments, and hosts. Investigating BFI in vitro remains a challenge, particularly when attempting to examine interactions at multiple scales of system complexity. Fabricated devices can provide control over both biotic composition and abiotic factors within an experiment to enable the characterization of diverse BFI phenotypes such as modulation of growth rate, production of biomolecules, and alterations to physical movements. Engineered devices ranging from microfluidic chips to simulated rhizosphere systems have been and will continue to be invaluable to BFI research, and it is anticipated that such devices will continue to be developed for diverse applications in the field. This will allow researchers to address specific questions regarding the nature of BFI and how they impact larger microbiome and environmental processes such as biogeochemical cycles, plant productivity, and overall ecosystem resilience. Efficiency and resilience are two central issues in sustainability research. It is unclear whether prioritizing resilience comes at the expense of efficiency, or whether both goals can be promoted simultaneously. This article evaluates the eco-efficiency (EE) and ecological resilience (ER) of the Yangtze River Delta (YRD) region by constructing indicator systems, and comprehensively measures spatial-temporal evolution, dynamic coordinated, and interactive effects relationships by using the multi-index comprehensive evaluation method, Super-SBM model, gray correlation analysis, and P-VAR model. The interdisciplinary community of ocean and coastal observers and modelers in Europe is driven by national observing needs for prediction and management of intricate processes shaping Europe's Seas. Not all observing needs can be addressed by nations alone and various coordination activities exist to overcome fragmentation and create cross benefit within the European Ocean Observing Community (EOOC). This way critical insights into impacts of climate change on European Waters and cross border marine resources management can be achieved. Based on a large number of published material, this article is identifying and addressing the current state of activities of the EOOC and states gaps that potentially prevent efficacy. Key challenges include spatial and temporal coverage in observations, data integration, accessibility, uncertainties in projections, technological hurdles, and engagement and communication gaps. Detailed recommendations are provided for identified gaps, offering valuable insights for stakeholders, funders, and supporters of the EOOC. Rural social-ecological systems have been significantly impacted by the development of rural tourism, creating substantial challenges for the synergistic development of rural ecological restoration and agricultural workers' household livelihoods. In alignment with the United Nations Decade on Ecosystem Restoration action plan, it is crucial to understand the ecological resilience of tourism villages from the perspective of farmers to achieve sustainable development. Questionnaires and semi-structured interviews were conducted in this study to gather livelihood data from farmers in tourism villages in Xiangxi, China, a region primarily inhabited by ethnic minorities. A measurement index system for the ecological resilience of rural tourism was constructed based on the three dimensions: pressure, state, and response. A comprehensive index method was employed for quantitative evaluation, and influencing factors were analyzed using an obstacle model. The results show that farmers' livelihoods can be divided into four types: tourism-led, labor-led, agriculture-led, and part-time tourism-based. Their ecological resilience indices are 0.4516, 0.4177, 0.4001, and 0.4590, respectively, representing an overall intermediate level. There are differences in various indices for different livelihood types, with the highest stress index observed in labor-led farmers (0.1655), the highest state index in agriculture-led farming households (0.1585), and the highest response index in tourism-led farming households (0.1766). Common obstacles to the ecological resilience of farmers and their villages include the number of family members engaged in tourism work, the area of forest land, and the farmers' understanding of ecological policies affecting them. Additionally, core family members' education levels and the area of homesteads emerged as important obstacle factors. Based on these research findings, recommendations are proposed to enhance the ecological resilience of rural farmer households in the tourism villages of ethnic minority areas. Riparian taxa are subject to dynamic, intense, flood‐related stressors, and have evolved traits to persist in this environment. Climate change‐induced intensification of flood regimes pose a threat to these ecosystems, and little is understood about their resilience to this intensification. Following two consecutive major floods (the first flood record‐breaking) along the subtropical coast of eastern Australia in March 2022, we used methods based on persistence (resprouting, seedling recruitment), and floristic structure (height, DBH) and assemblage, to assess the resilience of an old growth riparian rainforest to severe flooding in the 12‐month post‐flooding window. Smallerwoody plants (stems <10 m tall, <30 cm DBH) were the most impacted and were significantly impacted by flooding. Native species richness and plant density (plants/m−2) significantly decreased between before and 3 months post‐flooding, after which they continued to significantly increase to surpass pre‐flood values. Overall, ~35% of taxa exhibited resprouting, ~28% of taxa exhibited seedling recruitment, and ~11% exhibited both resprouting and recruitment. An additional ~21% native taxa were introduced to the site via seedling recruitment, along with 65 invasive species. Model‐based multivariate analysis showed flooding significantly altered community floristics (p = 0.026) at 3 months. At 12 months post‐flooding the community was recovering, becoming more floristically similar to its pre‐flood composition. The riparian rainforest exhibited high resilience to intense flooding. Impact, persistence, and resilience varied amongplots, and the community took 12 months to move into recovery. We found that persistence, and floristic structure and composition weighted against impact were effective measures of ecosystem resilience. In the absence of further consecutive events, mature‐phase riparian rainforests are likely to be structurally and floristically resilient to climate change‐induced amplification of flood regimes. In this study, a multilevel drought-induced resistance and resilience analysis (MDRRA) approach was developed to investigate the stability of vegetation in the Yellow River Basin (YRB). MDRRA was quantified by utilizing the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). It was applied to YRB to assess vegetation resistance and resilience to various levels of drought by utilizing precipitation and NDVI data from 2000 to 2019. The results reveal that vegetation resistance and resilience in YRB are affected by drought severity. Monthly and annual changes in SPI over the warm–temperate humid zone of the YRB show a decreasing trend, with rates of 0.001 per decade and 0.034 per decade, respectively; however, the other climatic subregions exhibit an increasing trend, with rates ranging from 0.002 per decade to 0.82 per decade. Over 77.56% of the downstream areas show increases in the annual SPI averages. Drought severity differs across subregions in the YRB. More severe drought events occur in its upper and middle reaches, while less severe ones happen in its lower reaches. As the drought severity increases, the arid and semiarid regions of the mesothermal zone exhibit a decrease in the resistance and resilience indices. The stability, diversity, and biomass of grassland plant communities directly impact the functionality and resilience of ecosystems, making them a focal point for ecological research. This three-year study (2021–2023) in the Habahe pastoral area of Xinjiang, China, aimed to investigate the long-term effects of grazing on grassland vegetation structure, community stability, species diversity, and productivity. The results indicate the following. (1) The Habahe pastoral area hosts a relatively rich plant species diversity, with 40 species distributed across 17 families and 37 genera, predominantly comprising perennial and annual herbs. (2) Grazing significantly affected grassland structure and function, resulting in a 4.35% decrease in plant community stability, a 40.74% decrease in species richness, a 21.55% decrease in species dominance, a 5.08% decrease in species diversity, a 46.79% decrease in aboveground biomass, a 61.86% decrease in coverage, and a 72.12% decrease in height. (3) Grazing alters the relationship between species diversity and community stability, shifting it from a positive correlation to a negative one (p < 0.01) or rendering it non-significant after grazing. (4) Grazing affects the correlation between aboveground biomass and both species diversity and community stability. While the positive correlation between aboveground biomass and species diversity persists, it is not statistically significant (p > 0.05) after grazing. Conversely, the correlation between aboveground biomass and community stability shifts from positive to negative (p < 0.01). Resilient ecological systems are more likely to persist and function in the Anthropocene. Current methods for estimating an ecosystem's resilience rely on accurately parameterized ecosystem models, which is a significant empirical challenge. In this paper, we adapt tools from biochemical kinetics to identify ecological networks that exhibit 'structural resilience', a strong form of resilience that is solely a property of the network structure and is independent of model parameters. We undertake an exhaustive search for structural resilience across all three‐species ecological networks, under a generalized Lotka‐Volterra modelling framework. Out of 20,000 possible network structures, approximately 2% display structural resilience. The properties of these networks provide important insights into the mechanisms that could promote resilience in ecosystems, provide new theoretical avenues for qualitative modelling approaches and provide a foundation for identifying robust forms of ecological resilience in large, realistic ecological networks. In February 2023, a severe cold snap took place in Atlantic Canada and was followed by the mass loss of mussels at mid-to-high intertidal elevations on the southeastern Nova Scotia coast. This loss was concerning because mussels sustain upper trophic levels in coastal food webs and because mussel stands enhance local biodiversity by sheltering many small invertebrate species. Using photographs taken in the second summer after that cold snap (July 2024), this article provides visual evidence of active ongoing recolonization of intertidal mussels on this coast, including the incipient formation of new stands. These are encouraging signs of ecological resilience. Global change is a multifaceted, unprecedented crisis hitting the life support system of our planet. Among global changes, climate change is regarded as one of the most grave threats to biodiversity because of its direct impacts on species and ecosystems integrity and because of its indirect consequences through synergistic effects with other global change factors such as biological invasions. The challenges presented to either reduce or mitigate this biodiversity crisis derived from climate change require novel synthesis and innovation in ecological and evolutionary theory. Positive species interactions within and between trophic levels can play a key role in the resilience of ecological communities. Depending on the tolerance of nurse species to different aspects of climate change, communities can be more or less resilient to those changes. This knowledge has important implications for both natural communities and agroecosystems. Further, our fundamental understanding of the role of positive interactions can also enable both effective conservation and restoration levers in space and time. This special issue includes studies addressing the role of facilitative interactions on the response of ecological systems to climate change. Key concepts examined included stress, gradients, nurse species, spatial scale, translocation, phylogenetics alongside physiochemicals, and variation in the capacity of species to buffer changes. Alpine, tundra, drylands and temperate forests were directly tested, but salient principles were relevant to all ecosystems including a contribution on soil biota and also a call to more open data and collaborative science. Irruptive or boom-and-bust population dynamics, also known as 'outbreaks', are an important phenomenon that has been noted in biological invasions at least since Charles Elton's classic book was published in 1958. Community-level consequences of irruptive dynamics are poorly documented and invasive species provide excellent systems for their study. African Jewelfish (Rubricatochromis letourneuxi, "jewelfish") are omnivores that demonstrate opportunistic carnivory, first reported in Florida in the 1960s and in Everglades National Park (ENP) in 2000. Twelve years after invasion in ENP, jewelfish underwent a 25-fold increase in density in one year. By 2016, jewelfish represented 25–50% of fish biomass. Using a 43-year fish community dataset at two sites (1978–2021), and a 25-year dataset of fish and invertebrate communities from the same drainage (1996–2021), with additional spatial coverage, we quantified differences in fish and invertebrate communities during different phases of invasion. During jewelfish boom, abundant, native cyprinodontiform fishes decreased in density and drove changes in community structure as measured by similarity of relativized abundance. Density of two species declined by > 70%, while four declined by 50–62%. Following the jewelfish bust, some species recovered to pre-boom densities while others did not. Diversity of recovery times produced altered community structure that lagged for at least four years after the jewelfish population declined. Community structure is an index of ecological functions such as resilience, productivity, and species interaction webs; therefore, these results demonstrate that irruptive population dynamics can alter ecological functions of ecosystems mediated by community structure for years following that population's decline. Climate change will disrupt biological processes at every scale. Ecosystem functions and services vital to ecological resilience are set to shift, with consequences for how we manage land, natural resources, and food systems. Increasing temperatures cause morphological shifts, with concomitant implications for biomechanical performance metrics crucial to trophic interactions. Biomechanical performance, such as maximum bite force or running speed, determines the breadth of resources accessible to consumers, the outcome of interspecific interactions, and thus the structure of ecological networks. Climate change-induced impacts to ecosystem services and resilience are therefore on the horizon, mediated by disruptions of biomechanical performance and, consequently, trophic interactions across whole ecosystems. Here, we argue that there is an urgent need to investigate the complex interactions between climate change, biomechanical traits, and foraging ecology to help predict changes to ecological networks and ecosystem functioning. We discuss how these seemingly disparate disciplines can be connected through network science. Using an ant-plant network as an example, we illustrate how different data types could be integrated to investigate the interaction between warming, bite force, and trophic interactions, and discuss what such an integration will achieve. It is our hope that this integrative framework will help to identify a viable means to elucidate previously intractable impacts of climate change, with effective predictive potential to guide management and mitigation. Terrestrial ecosystems are experiencing notable changes due to global change, making it crucial to determine their future responses under different climate scenarios. In previous theories, it has been proposed that resilience, which reflects the ability of ecosystems to withstand disturbances such as drought and wildfires, can serve as an indicator of the ecosystem structure and function. In this study, we applied ecosystem resilience as a metric to assess the state of terrestrial ecosystems. Our analysis revealed a positive trend in vegetation growth across different climate scenarios. Additionally, SSP5-8.5 having the least masked areas exhibits the smallest uncertainties among the considered scenarios. We further examined the theoretical recovery rates based on variance and lag-1 auto-correlation (AC1) to quantify resilience, considering three future periods (near-term, mid-term, and long-term). The theoretical recovery rates decrease from the near-term to the long-term, while larger uncertainties are observed in the long-term compared to the near-term. Notably, equatorial regions experience a significant degradation in resilience, despite the anticipated increase in vegetation growth. Our study highlights the complex dynamics between vegetation growth and ecosystem resilience, disentangling the resilience change of terrestrial ecosystems in the face of global change. Enhancing ecological resilience stands as a crucial pillar in ensuring the ecological security of the Yellow River Basin and advancing the modernization of harmonious coexistence between humanity and nature. Utilizing the emergy ecological footprint model, this study assessed and mapped the ecological resilience levels across the Yellow River Basin from 2007 to 2021, spanning various spatial scales including basin sections, provinces, urban agglomerations, and municipal areas. Through a combination of exploratory spatial data analysis, kernel density estimation, and Markov chain analysis, the study uncovered the spatio-temporal patterns and dynamic evolution characteristics of ecological resilience in the basin. The findings unveiled several key insights: (1) Over the examined period, the overall ecological resilience in the Yellow River Basin exhibited a fluctuating downward trend, with significant disparities observed in temporal changes across different spatial scales. (2) Spatially, the basin's ecological resilience generally followed a ' high in the west, low in the east' distribution pattern, with high-value zones situated in ecologically sound cities with lower demands for ecological resources, and low-value areas concentrated in provincial capitals, economically developed regions, and resource-based cities. The spatial distribution of ecological resilience in the Yellow River Basin was predicted to remain relatively stable in 2028 and 2035, showing a distribution trend of 'high in the west and low in the east.' (3) Spatial correlation analysis showed that the ecological resilience of the Yellow River Basin had a significant positive spatial correlation, forming a trend of high and high agglomeration and low and low convergence. (4) The kernel density estimation showed that the ecological resilience of the Yellow River Basin had the characteristics of unbalanced development, the multi-polarization phenomenon was obvious, and the absolute difference between the upper reaches and the middle and lower reaches was widened. (5) Markov chain analysis showed that the ecological resilience of the Yellow River Basin was stable under different periods, and there was a club convergence characteristic of ' low-level trap' and ' high-level monopoly,' and the mobility gradually increased with the increase of period, but there was no leapfrog development of ecological resilience. When considering the spatial effect, club convergence was neither controlled nor alleviated, and the probability of upward and downward transfer of the neighborhood ecological resilience level to surrounding cities was asymmetrical. Biological soil crusts (biocrusts) can thrive under environmental conditions that are stressful for vascular plants such as high temperatures and/or extremely low moisture availability. In these settings, and in the absence of disturbance, cover of biocrusts commonly exceeds cover of vascular plants. Arid landscapes are also typically slow to recover from disturbance and prone to altered vegetation and invasion by exotic species. In the sagebrush ecosystems, cover of annual, exotic, invasive grasses are lower where cover of biocrusts and vascular plants are greater, suggesting that biocrusts play a role in helping arid sites avoid conversion to dominance by invasive grasses. The conceptual framework for assessing ecological resistance and resilience (R&R) is used across the region to estimate the risk of invasion by annual grasses and the likelihood of recovery of native plants following disturbance. However, this framework does not currently account for biocrusts. We used data collected by the Bureau of Land Management Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring program to relate biocrusts, specifically the presence of lichens and mosses, to the R&R framework. Lichens frequently occur on warm, dry sites, classified as lower R&R. Mosses frequently occur on sites classified as moderate or moderately low R&R. Without management practices that favor biocrusts in low‐moderate R&R, these areas may be more vulnerable to transitioning from being dominated by shrubs to annual grasses. Under climate change scenarios, the area occupied by lower R&R sites is likely to increase, suggesting that the role of biocrusts in maintaining site resistance to invasion may also increase. Seasonally Dry Tropical Forests (SDTFs) have long suffered from chronic, intensive and extensive landscape transformations due to human activities, challenging biodiversity conservation in this biome. The Caatinga is the largest Neotropical SDTF, serving as an excellent model to understand how land use changes modulate ecological communities. In this study, we assessed the effects of landscape configuration and composition on the abundance and diversity of Chrysomeloidea in a region of Caatinga. We sampled beetles in 10 landscape units, in which we measured landscape configuration (patch size, edge density) and composition (landscape diversity, patch richness). Hill numbers (q0, q1, q2) were used to analyze the diversities of Chrysomeloidea. A total of 484 individuals belonging to 82 species were collected. Landscape configuration affected Chrysomeloidea assemblages with a positive correlation between edge density and Chrysomeloidea diversity. We provide a new perspective regarding the spatial distribution of Chrysomeloidea in Caatinga and conclude that landscape configuration, but not composition, directly affects Chrysomeloidea assemblages. In this study, we examined the relationship between sea surface temperature (SST) and phytoplankton abundance in coastal regions of the Brazilian South Atlantic: São Paulo, Paraná, and Santa Catarina, and the Protection Area of Southern right whales (Eubalaena australis) in Santa Catarina (APA), a conservation zone established along 130 km of coastline. Using SST and chlorophyll‐a (Chl‐a) data from 2002 to 2023, we found significant differences in SST between the regions, with São Paulo having the highest SST, followed by Paraná and Santa Catarina. All locations showed a consistent increase in SST over the years, with North Santa Catarina, APA and São Paulo experiencing the lowest rate of increase. Correlation analyses between SST and Chl‐a revealed a stronger inverse relationship in North Santa Catarina and APA, indicating an increased response of Chl‐a to SST variations in this region. The presence of protected area appears to play an essential role in reducing the negative impacts of increasing SST. Specifically, while there is a wealth of research on the consequences of global warming on diverse coastal and oceanic areas, heterogeneity among different settings persists and the causes for this necessitating attention. Allopolyploidy in plants involves the merging of two or more distinct parental genomes into a single nucleus, a significant evolutionary process in the plant kingdom. Transcriptomic analysis provides invaluable insights into allopolyploid plants by elucidating the fate of duplicated genes, revealing evolutionary novelties and uncovering their environmental adaptations. By examining gene expression profiles, scientists can discern how duplicated genes have evolved to acquire new functions or regulatory roles. This process often leads to the development of novel traits and adaptive strategies that allopolyploid plants leverage to thrive in diverse ecological niches. Understanding these molecular mechanisms not only enhances our appreciation of the genetic complexity underlying allopolyploidy but also underscores their importance in agriculture and ecosystem resilience. However, transcriptome profiling is challenging due to genomic redundancy, which is further complicated by the presence of multiple chromosomes sets and the variations among homoeologs and allelic genes. Prior to transcriptome analysis, sub-genome phasing and homoeology inference are essential for obtaining a comprehensive view of gene expression. This review aims to clarify the terminology in this field, identify the most challenging aspects of transcriptome analysis, explain their inherent difficulties, and suggest reliable analytic strategies. Furthermore, bulk RNA-seq is highlighted as a primary method for studying allopolyploid gene expression, focusing on critical steps like read mapping and normalization in differential gene expression analysis. In this work, we carry out an analytical and numerical investigation of travelling waves representing arced vegetation patterns on sloped terrains. These patterns are reported to appear also in ecosystems which are not water deprived; therefore, we study the hypothesis that their appearance is due to plant–soil negative feedback, namely due to biomass-(auto)toxicity interactions. To this aim, we introduce a reaction-diffusion-advection model describing the dynamics of vegetation biomass and toxicity which includes the effect of sloped terrains on the spatial distribution of these variables. Our analytical investigation shows the absence of Turing patterns, whereas travelling waves (moving uphill in the slope direction) emerge. Investigating the corresponding dispersion relation, we provide an analytic expression for the asymptotic speed of the wave. Numerical simulations not only just confirm this analytical quantity but also reveal the impact of toxicity on the structure of the emerging travelling pattern. Our analysis represents a further step in understanding the mechanisms behind relevant plants' spatial distributions observed in real life. In the context of high-quality development, scientifically and objectively assessing regional ecosystem health (EH) is important for ecological civilization. However, the commonly used EH assessment framework typically neglects intrinsic connections, mutual adaptability, and coordination among interrelated indicators. The coupling coordination model was utilized to improve the classic pressure–state–response assessment (PSR) model. The carbon footprint, water footprint, landscape pattern, and response status of the Manas River Basin were used to construct a medium-scale regional EH assessment framework linking natural ecosystems with human socioeconomic elements. A quantitative assessment was conducted on the EH conditions of the Manas River Basin from 2000 to 2020. Over the past 21 years, the EH conditions of the Manas River Basin have fluctuated upward. The ecosystem health index (EHI) increased from 0.18 to 0.37. Compared with the conventional PSR model, the coupling coordination pressure–state–response model (CC–PSR) better reflected the fluctuations in EH conditions caused by "pressure", "state", and "response" level changes. In the early stage (2000–2006), increasing human activity strongly pressured the regional ecosystem, limiting EH improvements. The increase in "pressure" was reflected in the increasing trends of the water footprint, carbon footprint, and ecological footprint. During the middle to late period (2009–2020), as the "response" level improved, the regional EH condition continued to increase, and the EHI stabilized between 0.29 and 0.38. Ecosystem resilience improvements and human afforestation projects enhanced the "response" level, but their impacts were noticeably delayed. Over the past 21 years, regional landscape diversity, landscape connectance, and landscape contagion have remained high. The well-maintained landscape pattern has laid the foundation for consolidating and improving the regional EH. The EHI is increasing; its fluctuations stem from periodic fluctuations in the regional water yield and carbon sequestration capacity, which are constrained by the basin climate and vegetation coverage. Payments for ecosystem services have recently been introduced into the ecosystem management landscape to counter ecosystem degradation. This study examines the experiences of sustainable use and management of watersheds using a compensation for ecosystem service model in the Koga watershed, Northern Ethiopia. The study primarily employed qualitative methods. Thirteen informants, chosen from a group of project implementers, were contacted for telephone interviews, and a document analysis was also conducted. Thematic approaches were employed to analysis the data. The study findings revealed that a project had been introduced to implement an innovative payment/compensation for ecosystem services (CES) scheme to manage watersheds and to alleviate poverty in the watershed. The scheme connected upstream and downstream communities and cooperatives through CES, earning praise for its effectiveness in combating dam siltation and watershed degradation. The initiative also established various enabling conditions, such as capacity building, bylaw formulation, and payment procedures for beneficiary communities. However, the CES scheme still has a long way to go to deliver the anticipated positive impacts on local livelihoods and watershed management. It is believed that a comprehensive legal framework, a stable political and social environment, and sustainable financing mechanisms are crucial for the success of any CES project. This study evaluates the new urbanization (NU) quality and the ecological resilience (ER) of 33 districts and counties in the Urban Agglomeration of Central Guizhou from 2010 to 2020. For this purpose, we used a modified coupled coordination degree (CCD) model, spatial autocorrelation analysis, and trend surface analysis to analyze the spatiotemporal evolutionary characteristics of the CCD of NU and ER. Meanwhile, we used a modified gravity model and social network analysis to investigate the spatial connection network (SCN) characteristics of the CCD of NU and ER. The results show that (1) the general NU quality has increased significantly in the Urban Agglomeration of Central Guizhou. There is, however, a downward trend in ER. (2) For the CCD of NU and ER in the Urban Agglomeration of Central Guizhou, there is coupling dissonance, with a double U-shaped arc, characterized by west > north > south > east > central. (3) The network density increases and then decreases. Network connectivity is 1, and network efficiency decreases and then increases. Ecosystem resilience, the ability of an ecosystem to recover from disturbances, is a critical indicator of environmental health and stability, particularly under the impacts of climate change and anthropogenic pressures. This study focuses on the Three-River Headwater Region (TRHR), a critical ecological area for East and Southeast Asia, often referred to as the "Water Tower of China". We used the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) as a proxy for vegetation growth and productivity and calculated Critical Slowing Down (CSD) indicators to assess the spatiotemporal dynamics of grassland ecosystem resilience in the TRHR from 1984 to 2021. Our research revealed a sustained improvement in ecosystem resilience in the TRHR starting in the late 1990s, with a reversal in this trend observed after 2011. Spatially, ecosystem resilience was higher in areas with greater precipitation and higher vegetation productivity. Temporally, changes in grazing intensity were most strongly correlated with resilience dynamics, with explanatory power far exceeding that of NDVI, temperature, and precipitation. Our study underscores the importance of incorporating ecosystem resilience into assessments of ecosystem function changes and the effectiveness of ecological conservation measures, providing valuable insights for similar research in other regions of the world. The sustainability of grazed rangelands can be improved by adopting innovative management practices that enhance the ecological resilience, productivity, and long-term viability of rangeland ecosystems. This study applied a bivariate Multiple Indicator–Multiple Causation model to examine how landowner characteristics are associated with their perceptions concerning patch-burn grazing (PBG) and mixed-species grazing (MSG). Data were collected through a mail survey of landowners in the Southern Great Plains who own at least 100 acres.
