Historical Media Memories of the Rwandan Genocide studies the construction, development and recreation of the transnational historical media memory of the genocde against the Tutsi i Rwanda. This comprehensive work traces the international media image and the creation of historical media memories of the Rwandan genocide, starting with the day-to-day television news reporting in 1994, and continues with analysing how the genocide has been used and reproduced in films and documentaries in a global scale as well in Rwanda, which has created its own images of the genocide in film and television production to support a new national identity.

However, he has gradually been forgotten, possibly because of his early death and the changing times and literary ideals, but mainly because only seven poems have been known to his name. During the 20th century, he did not receive attention.Due to a recent manuscript find in Karlstad in Värmland, 61 poems by Risell are now known. This volume presents a critical edition of his poems. Notwithstanding his death at the age of only 27, Risell is shown to have been a diligent and varied author, writing orations and occasional verse to further his career, but also excelling in satires and songs to entertain his friends. It is clear that he performed his orations and songs, and he appears as a Swedish example of an early modern singer-songwriter. The student setting of Uppsala was important. In many of his poems and songs he celebrates a joyful bohemian way of life, in others, he appears as a melancholic lover. His vivid imagination, emotional appeal and oral qualities are to be noted. The themes of love and war are prominent. His more than two dozen song-texts are particularly notable, as it is shown that many of these were widely spread during the 18th century, though without attribution. They appear in handwritten songbooks and a few were printed in chapbooks. Johan Risell was a vicar’s son from Värmland and Dalsland, who matriculated at Uppsala University 1717, but never received a degree. After working as a tutor for richer families, he finally was appointed »stadssekreterare« (a local administrative position calling for some training in law) in Köping. He died in Uppsala before he c, Vetenskaplig textkritisk utgåva. Critical edition.

Early Determination of Jurisdiction, which focuses on Article 8(1) of the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration, thoroughly examines the pivotal issue of whether national courts should (or could) conclusively settle jurisdictional disputes before or after the arbitrators have determined jurisdiction. In other words, the question of when a court should exercise its authority with conclusive effects. The interpretation and application of the competence-competence principle are not uniform across jurisdictions. Conflicting approaches – to the extent, effects, and consequences of permitting an arbitral tribunal to decide on its own jurisdiction and the proper timing for judicial involvement – rest upon significant theoretical and policy concerns that have practical implications. Die Studierenden besitzen die Fähigkeit, fachspezifische Probleme nach wissenschaftlichen Grundsätzen selbstständig zu bearbeiten. Lehrveranstaltung Die Lehrveranstaltung gliedert sich in eine Vor- lesungsreihe und daran anschließende, betreute Übungen. Drei Übungen werden jeweils betreut bearbeitet und mit einer Präsentation abgeschlossen. Zum Leistungsumfang zählen (je nach Übungsprinzip) konstruktive Überlegungen, Plandarstellungen und Modelle bis zum Maßstab 1:1. Die Lehrveranstaltung wird unter Nutzung des LMS Moodle durchgeführt. Die Moralisierung politischer Kultur wird im Kontext gegenwärtiger Transformationskonflikte als ein Krisensymptom demokratischer Gesellschaften analysiert. Eine These lautet: Das Schwinden liberaler Demokratie und die Transformation der Gesellschaft bewirken emotionale Kontrastverschärfungen, die in einen Vertrauensverlust staatlicher Institutionen münden können.

Mythische Anschauungen, die überwunden schienen, kehren im modernen Sport wieder. Hier lebt das Bedürfnis fort, der chaotisch erscheinenden Welt einen einheitsstiftenden Sinn abzuringen. Diesem Phänomen gehen die zwei Bände von Mythos Sport im Zusammenhang mit Subjektivierungsprozessen nach, die sich mittels sportlich-körperzentrierter Rituale, Praktiken und Übungen vollziehen. Im Anschluss an Adorno und Horkheimer wird deutlich, wie sehr die gesellschaftlichen »Körperverhältnisse« als verhinderte Aufklärung und daher verstrickt in Herrschaft zu begreifen sind. Der vorliegende Band I macht am Beispiel des mythischen Götterglaubens in der griechischen Adelsgesellschaft das für die Ausführungen zentrale subjektivierungstheoretische Motiv der inneren und äußeren Naturbeherrschung einsichtig und verfolgt dessen Transformation hin zum frühneuzeitlichen Selbstermächtigungsstreben. Sodann zeigt der Autor auf, wie in der neu entstehenden bürgerlichen Gesellschaft durch die Disziplinierung des Körpers dessen politische und ökonomische Nutzbarmachung erreicht wird.

Die vorliegende Masterthesis befasst sich mit der genderspezifischen Sprache in Stellenanzeigen, die am Beispiel der Anwendung „Scan Neutral“ untersucht wird. Zahlreiche Studien haben bestätigt, dass ein ungünstig gewähltes, genderunsensibles Wording in den Stellenanzeigen zur Verringerung des Interesses an der ausgeschriebenen Stelle sowie zur Reduktion der Anzahl an Bewerbenden führen kann. Aus diesem Grund legen viele Unternehmen beim Akquirieren von neuen Mitarbeitenden einen besonderen Wert auf geschickt formulierte Stelleninserate. So ist dies auch bei CGI – einem globalen Dienstleister für IT- und Geschäftsprozesse – der Fall. Um die Stellenausschreibungen für jede und jeden attraktiver und ansprechender zu gestalten und somit die Vielfalt in der IT-Branche zu stärken, wurde von einem CGI-Team am Standort München die Anwendung „Scan Neutral“ entwickelt. Das Tool überprüft Stellenanzeigen in Bezug auf den geschlechtergerechten Sprachgebrauch und schlägt anschließend gendergerechte Alternativen zu den identifizierten genderspezifischen Wörtern vor. Dabei ist es den Nutzenden überlassen, ob die Vorschläge angenommen und eingearbeitet werden. Somit stellt „Scan Neutral“ ein Tool dar, das eine Hilfestellung bei der Optimierung des Sprachgebrauchs leistet und die Arbeit an den geschlechtergerechten Formulierungen unterstützt. Die Anwendung verfolgt darüber hinaus das Ziel, das Bewusstsein für einen genderfairen Sprachgebrauch zu schaffen und zu schärfen. Das Hauptziel der Masterthesis besteht darin, ein zuverlässiges linguistisch motiviertes Regelwerk für die deutschsprachige Version des Tools „Scan Neutral“ zu erstellen, das aus (gender)linguistischer Sicht begründet ist. Dafür wird ein theoretischer Rahmen erstellt, in dem zwei Kategorien der genderspezifischen Sprache – gegenderte sowie geschlechterstereotype Wörter – definiert sowie ihre Verwendung in Stellenanzeigen und ihre Wirkung auf das Zielpublikum analysiert werden. Diese Arbeit steht im Kontext der Entwicklung von Druckbehältern mit thermoplastischer Matrix nach der sogenannten Darmstädter Bauweise. Konkret thematisiert werden Konstruktionsparameter adhäsiver Laminatstirnverankerungen und Prozessparameter für die Herstellung endlosfaserverstärkter Thermoplast-Rohre aus Bandhalbzeug im Schleuderverfahren. In eine Bohrung eingeklebte Anker ermöglichen eine punktuelle Krafteinleitung in die Stirnseite von Faser-Kunststoff-Laminaten. Die Untersuchung dieses Krafteinleitungskonzepts ist der Themenschwerpunkt dieser Arbeit. Die grundlegenden Einflüsse auf die Leichtbaueigenschaften werden beschrieben. Das mechanische Verhalten wird numerisch analysiert. Es werden Verfahren für eine zuverlässige Herstellung der Verankerung aufgezeigt. Den Kern der Arbeit stellt die experimentelle Untersuchung zum Einfluss des Laminataufbaus und der Geometrie auf das Tragverhalten einschließlich dem Vergleich zur T-Bolzenverbindung dar. Die Belastbarkeit der Klebschicht wird für verschiedene Adhäsive und Anker untersucht. Abschließend werden die wesentlichen Ergebnisse zu Konstruktionshinweisen zusammengefasst. Die Verankerung bewirkt eine niedrige Zwischenfaserbruch-Anstrengung im Laminat: Bereits kleine Querschnitte genügen, um Lasten bis zum Erreichen der Mindestbruchkraft hochfester Gewindestangen einzuleiten. Im Schleuderverfahren wird durch die Fliehkraft und das Aufschmelzen der thermoplastischen Matrix das Bandhalbzeug konsolidiert. Dieses Verfahren wird in einer Prozessanalyse untersucht und die Auswirkung der Drehzahl, der Prozesstemperatur und der Heizdauer auf den Porengehalt von CFK- und GFK-Polyamid6-Rohren diskutiert. Für beide Werkstoffe werden geringe Porengehalte erreicht. In einer Machbarkeitsstudie zeigt sich ein alternatives Fertigungsverfahren mit anionischer in-situ-Polymerisation von Polyamid6 ebenfalls für den Schleuderprozess geeignet.

During the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns, children’s media use increased (Mesce et al. 2021) while a decrease in print-book reading was observed (Nolan et al. 2022). An increase in tablet use suggests that when children were reading, it was mostly online in the form of ePub3 pdf files for illustrated works and prescribed school texts, while smartphone use was linked to apps and games. (Susilowati et al. 2021) For many years now, children’s publishers have experimented with digital picture-book formats but have regarded the genre as not suitable for digitisation. This book documents the findings of a one-year research project engaging the children’s publishing sector for feedback on reading trends and digital publishing in picture-book genres. The research assesses the plight of picture books in the current climate and considers how picture-book publishers cater to diverse readerships and new reading platforms post Covid-19 lockdowns and into the digital age. Written by an academic and editor with over 15 years industry experience, this book offers a nuanced response to children’s picture book publishing and reception for librarians, teachers, publishers and international scholars in the fields of publishing studies, library studies, early childhood studies, early education and childhood psychology.

Der Ackerschlepper wird in der Landwirtschaft, auf dem Bau, im Forst und im Kommunalbereich als Universalmaschine eingesetzt. Dazu wird er wechselnd mit einer Vielzahl von Maschinen gekoppelt, um diese zu betreiben. Es ergeben sich wechselnde Bedienszenarien mit unterschiedlichen Anforderungen an die Bedienung der gekoppelten Maschinen. Heutige Bediensysteme sind statisch und müssen daher als Kompromisslösung für diese unterschiedlichen Anforderungen an die Bedienung eingeordnet werden. Adaptive Bediensysteme können sich hingegen an wechselnde Bedienszenarien anpassen. Diese Arbeit beleuchtet den Stand der Technik der Bediensysteme in Ackerschleppern allgemein und explizit an drei ausgewählten Beispielen. Ferner werden zwei Methoden beschrieben, mit denen ein adaptives Bediensystem spezifiziert werden kann. Für die Bewertung der kognitiven und physischen Ergonomie von Bediensystemen allgemein werden zwei weitere Methoden vorgestellt. Alle Methoden sind für einen auf dem V-Modell basierenden Entwicklungsprozess geeignet. Die beschriebenen Ergebnisse einer theoretischen und praktischen Potentialanalyse motivieren den Einsatz adaptiver Bediensysteme im Ackerschlepper. Die theoretische Potentialanalyse stützt sich auf die Grundlagen der Ergonomie und auf die Art und Weise wie die Funktionen in einem Ackerschlepper genutzt werden. Die praktische Potentialanalyse stützt sich auf die Auswertung und Analyse von Messdaten aus dem Feld mit fast 500 Arbeitsstunden aus 14 Bedienszenarien. Ferner beschreibt diese Arbeit die Anwendung der Methoden zur Spezifikation, das entwickelte und funktionsfähige adaptive Bediensystem und die Anwendung der Bewertungsmethoden, die für das adaptive Bediensystem eine signifikante Verbesserungen der physischen und kognitiven Ergonomie zeigen.

This Element provides a pedagogical overview of the history of knowledge, including its main currents, distinguishing ideas, and key concepts. However, it is not primarily a state-of-the-art overview but rather an argumentative contribution that seeks to push the field in a certain direction – towards studying knowledge in society and knowledge in people's lives. Hence, the history of knowledge envisioned by the authors is not a rebranding of the history of science and intellectual history, but rather a reinvigoration of social and cultural history. This implies that many different forms of knowledge should be objects of study. By drawing on ongoing research from all across the world dealing with different time periods and problems, the authors demonstrate that the history of knowledge can enrich our understanding of past societies. In The Geography of Injustice, Barak Kushner argues that the war crimes tribunals in East Asia formed and cemented national divides that persist into the present day. In 1946 the Allies convened the Tokyo Trial to prosecute Japanese wartime atrocities and Japan's empire. At its conclusion one of the judges voiced dissent, claiming that the justice found at Tokyo was only "the sham employment of a legal process for the satisfaction of a thirst for revenge. War crimes tribunals, Kushner shows, allow for the history of the defeated to be heard. In contemporary East Asia a fierce battle between memory and history has consolidated political camps across this debate. The Tokyo Trial courtroom, as well as the thousands of other war crimes tribunals opened in about fifty venues across Asia, were legal stages where prosecution and defense curated facts and evidence to craft their story about World War Two. These narratives and counter narratives form the basis of postwar memory concerning Japan's imperial aims across the region. The archival record and the interpretation of court testimony together shape a competing set of histories for public consumption. The Geography of Injustice offers compelling evidence that despite the passage of seven decades since the end of the war, East Asia is more divided than united by history.

Keine andere Institution steht für die Wissensgesellschaft so wie die Universität: Sie ist ihr gesellschaftsprägender Dreh- und Angelpunkt, stellt doch Hochschulbildung mittlerweile in vielen Ländern den Normalbildungsstandard dar. Die Universität erbringt für Politik, Wirtschaft, Recht und alle anderen Felder Leistungen, ohne die diese nicht mehr auskommen: wissenschaftliche Expertise, Innovationen, gerichtsfestes Wissen und vieles mehr. Auf diese Weise wirkt sie in diesen Feldern mit und wird von ihnen sozialisiert. Damit geht einher, dass sie in wachsendem Maße kritisiert und zunehmend grundsätzlich angegriffen wird: Die Geltung und Nützlichkeit wissenschaftlichen Wissens wird bestritten und Hochschulbildung als „Elitenprojekt“ skandalisiert. Dies mag verstörend sein, aber auch darin beweist sich die immens gestiegene gesellschaftliche Bedeutsamkeit der Universität.

In this book, nine authors explore the DesignBuild learning method within the postcolonial context. Using concrete examples, the hands-on approach is critically examined and evaluated.
