Anomalies of the cosmic microwave background (CMB) maps have been widely acquainted nowadays from the Wilkinson Microwave Anisotropy Probe (WMAP) satellite to the Planck satellite. One of the anomalies is a multipole alignment from $l=2$ to $l=5$. In our work, we investigate the angular distribution of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) to find whether there is the same anomaly of GRB as CMB. We perform spherical harmonics expansion on GRB samples to derive coefficients of a few first terms of the expansion terms and find that there is rough multipole alignment from $l=2$ to $l=4$ while the dipole and $l=5$ multipole is in a distant direction, and that the quadrupole is obviously planar and the other ones are normal., Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures

According to the analysis of the $^{14}$C content of two Japanese trees over a period of approximately 3000 years at high time resolution, Miyake (2012) found a rapid increase at AD 774-775 and later on at AD 992-993 (Miyake 2013). This corresponds to a high-energy event happened within one year that input $\gamma$-ray energy about 7$\times{}$10$^{24}$erg to the Earth, leaving the origin a mystery. Such strong event should have an unusual optical counterpart, and have been recorded in historical literature. We searched Chinese historical materials around AD 744-775 and AD 992-993, but no remarkable event was found except a violent thunderstorm in AD 775. However, the possibility of a thunderstorm containing so much energy is still unlikely. We conclude the event caused the $^{14}$C increase is still unclear. This event most probably has no optical counterpart, and short gamma-ray burst, giant flare of a soft gamma-ray repeater and terrestrial $\gamma$-ray flash may all be the candidates., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures

The continued observations of Sw J1644+57 in X-ray and radio bands accumulated a rich data set to study the relativistic jet launched in this tidal disruption event. The X-ray light curve of Sw J1644+57 from 5-30 days presents two kinds of quasi-periodic variations: a 200 second quasi-periodic oscillation (QPO) and a 2.7-day quasi-periodic variation. The latter has been interpreted by a precessing jet launched near the Bardeen-Petterson radius of a warped disk. Here we suggest that the $\sim$ 200s QPO could be associated with a second, narrower jet sweeping the observer line-of-sight periodically, which is launched from a spinning black hole in the misaligned direction with respect to the black hole's angular momentum. In addition, we show that this two-component jet model can interpret the radio light curve of the event, especially the re-brightening feature starting $\sim 100$ days after the trigger. From the data we infer that inner jet may have a Lorentz factor of $\Gamma_{\rm j} \sim 5.5$ and a kinetic energy of $E_{\rm k,iso} \sim 3.0 \times 10^{52} {\rm erg}$, while the outer jet may have a Lorentz factor of $\Gamma_{\rm j} \sim 2.5$ and a kinetic energy of $E_{\rm k,iso} \sim 3.0 \times 10^{53} {\rm erg}$., Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in ApJ

We present a new representation of light curves, which is quite different from the binning method. Instead of choosing uniform bins, the reciprocal of interval between two successive photons is adopted to represent the counting rate. A primary application of this light curve is to compute the power density spectrum by means of Lomb Periodogram and to find possible periods. To verify this new representation, we apply this method to artificial periodic data and some known periodic celestial objects, and the periods are all correctly found. Compared with the traditional fast Fourier transform method, our method does not rely on the bin size and has a spontaneously high time resolution, guaranteeing a wide frequency range in power density spectrum, and is especially useful when the photons are rare for its little information losses. Gamma-ray bursts are most luminous explosions in the universe. Their ejecta are believed to move towards Earth with a relativistic speed. The interaction between this "relativistic jet" and a circum burst medium drives a pair of (forward and reverse) shocks. The electrons accelerated in these shocks radiate synchrotron emission to power the broad-band afterglow of GRBs. The external shock theory is an elegant theory, since it invokes a limit number of model parameters, and has well predicted spectral and temporal properties. On the other hand, depending on many factors (e.g. the energy content, ambient density profile, collimation of the ejecta, forward vs. reverse shock dynamics, and synchrotron spectral regimes), there is a wide variety of the models. These models have distinct predictions on the afterglow decaying indices, the spectral indices, and the relations between them (the so-called "closure relations"), which have been widely used to interpret the rich multi-wavelength afterglow observations. This review article provides a complete reference of all the analytical synchrotron external shock afterglow models by deriving the temporal and spectral indices of all the models in all spectral regimes, including some regimes that have not been published before. The review article is designated to serve as a useful tool for afterglow observers to quickly identify relevant models to interpret their data. We propose a two-component jet model consistent with the observations of several gamma ray bursts (GRBs) and active galactic nuclei (AGNs). The jet consists of inner and outer components, and they are supposed to be driven by the Blandford-Znajek (BZ) and Blandford-Payne (BP) processes, respectively. The baryons in the BP jet is accelerated centrifugally via the magnetic field anchored in the accretion disk. The BZ jet is assumed to be entrained a fraction of accreting matter leaving the inner edge of the accretion disk, and the baryons are accelerated in the conversion from electromagnetic energy to the kinetic energy. By fitting the Lorentz factors of some GRBs (GRB 030329, GRB 051221A, GRB 080413B) and AGNs (Cen A, Mkn 501 and Mkn 421) with this model, we constrain the physical parameters related to the accretion and outflow of these two kind of objects. The shallow decay phase of the early X-ray afterglow in gamma-ray bursts discovered by {\it Swift} is a widely discussed topic. As the spectral index does not change at the transferring of the shallow decay phase to a normal phase, it implies this transferring should be a dynamical change rather than a spectral evolution. We suggest both the shallow decay phase and the normal phase are from the external shock in a wind environment, while the transferring time is the deceleration time. We apply this model to GRBs 050319 and 081008, and find them can be well explained by choosing a proper set of parameters., Comment: 5 pages. Submitted to Chinese Physics Letters

The bulk Lorentz factor of the gamma-ray burst (GRB) ejecta (Gamma_0) is a key parameter to understand the GRB physics. Liang et al. have discovered a correlation between Gamma_0 and isotropic gamma-ray energy: Gamma_0\proptoE_{gamma,iso,52}^{0.25}. By including more GRBs with updated data and more methods to derive Gamma_0, we confirm this correlation and obtain Gamma_0~91E_{gamma,iso,52}^{0.29}. Evaluating the mean isotropic gamma-ray luminosities L_{gamma,iso} of the GRBs in the same sample, we discover an even tighter correlation Gamma_0~249 L_{gamma,iso,52}^{0.30}. We propose an interpretation to this later correlation. Invoking a neutrino-cooled hyperaccretion disk around a stellar mass black hole as the central engine of GRBs, we derive jet luminosity powered by neutrino annihilation and baryon loading from a neutrino-driven wind. Applying beaming correction, we finally derive Gamma_0\proptoL_{gamma,iso}^{0.22}, which is well consistent with the data. We compile 23 Gamma-ray Bursts (GRBs) and 21 blazars with estimated Doppler factors, and the Doppler factors of GRBs are estimated from their Lorentz factors by assuming their jet viewing angles \theta->0 degree. Using the conventional assumption that the prompt emission of GRBs is dominated by the synchrotron radiation, we calculate the synchrotron luminosity of GRBs from their total isotropic energy and burst duration. Intriguingly, we discover a uniform correlation between the synchrotron luminosity and Doppler factor, L_syn \propto D^3.1, for GRBs and blazars, which suggests that they may share some similar jet physics. One possible reason is that GRBs and blazars have, more or less, similar intrinsic synchrotron luminosities and both of them are strongly enhanced by the beaming effect. After Doppler and redshift-correction, we find that the intrinsic peak energy of the GRBs ranges from 0.1 to 3 keV with a typical value of 1 keV. We further correct the beaming effect for the observed luminosity of GRBs and find that there exists a positive correlation between the intrinsic synchrotron luminosity and peak energy for GRBs, which is similar to that of blazars. Our results suggest that both the intrinsic positive correlation and the beaming effect may be responsible for the observed tight correlation between the isotropic energy and the peak energy in GRBs (so called "Amati" relation)., Comment: Accepted by ApJ Letter, part of discussion is improved and main conclusion is unchanged

Fermi observations of GeV emission from GRBs have suggested that the Lorentz factor of some GRBs is around a thousand or even higher. At the same time the same Fermi observations have shown an extended GeV emission indicating that this higher energy emission might be a part of the afterglow and it does not come from the same region as the lower energy prompt emission. If this interpretation is correct than we should reconsider the opacity limits on the Loretnz factor of the emitting regions which are based on a one-zone model. We describe here a two-zone model in which the GeV photons are emitted in a larger radius than the MeV photons and we calculate the optical depth for pair creation of a GeV photon passing the lower energy photons shell. We find that, as expected, the new two-zone limits on the Lorentz factor are significantly lower. The corresponding limits for the Fermi bursts are lower by a factor of five compared to the one-zone model and it is possible that both the MeV and GeV regions have relatively modest Lorentz factors (~200 - 400)., Comment: 15 pages 4 figuers

In the fireball model, it is more physically realistic that gamma-ray burst (GRB) ejecta have a range of bulk Lorentz factors (assuming $M\propto \Gamma^{-s}$). The low Lorentz factor part of the ejecta will catch up with the high Lorentz factor part when the latter is decelerated by the surrounding medium to a comparable Lorentz factor. Such a process will develop a long-lasting weak reverse shock until the whole ejecta are shocked. Meanwhile, the forward shocked materials are gradually supplied with energy from the ejecta that are catching-up, and thus the temporal decay of the forward shock emission will be slower than that without an energy supply. However, the reverse shock may be strong. Here, we extend the standard reverse-forward shock model to the case of radially nonuniform ejecta. We show that this process can be classified into two cases: the thick shell case and the thin shell case. In the thin shell case, the reverse shock is weak and the temporal scaling law of the afterglow is the same as that in Sari & Mesz (2000). However, in the thick shell case, the reverse shock is strong and thus its emission dominates the afterglow in the high energy band. Our results also show slower decaying behavior of the afterglow due to the energy supply by low Lorentz factor materials, which may help the understanding of the plateau observed in the early optical and X-ray afterglows.

While it is generally agreed that the emitting regions in Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) move ultra relativistically towards the observer, different estimates of the initial Lorentz factors, $\Gamma_0$, lead to different, at times conflicting estimates. We show here that the quiet periods in which the signals goes down below the instrumental thresholds, put strong upper limits on the values of $\Gamma_0$. According to the standard internal-external shocks model an external shock should develop during the prompt stage. This external shock radiates in the hard X-rays to soft gamma-rays bands and this emission should be seen as a smooth background signal. The observed deep minima indicate that this contribution is negligible. This limits, in turn, $\Gamma_0$. We obtain upper limits on $\Gamma_0$ for several bursts with typical values around hundreds. We compare these values with those obtained by the other methods, which typically yield lower limits. The results are marginally consistent leaving only a narrow range of allowed values for $\Gamma_0$., Comment: 9 pages, 2 figures. Submitted to MNRAS
