High Energy Physics - Experiment - Abstract
The asymmetry parameter P was measured for the elastic pion-proton scattering in the very backward angular region of theta_cm ~ 150-170^o at several pion beam energies in the invariant mass range containing most of the pion-proton resonances. The general goal of the experimental program was to provide new data for partial wave analyses in order to resolve their uncertainties in the baryon resonance region to allow the unambiguous baryon spectrum reconstructions. Until recently the parameter P was not measured in the examined domain that might be explained by the extremely low cross section. At the same time the predictions of various partial wave analyses are far from agreement in some kinematic areas and specifically those areas were chosen for the measurements where the disagreement is most pronouncing. The experiment was performed at the ITEP U-10 proton synchrotron, Moscow, by the ITEP-PNPI collaboration in the latest 5 years., Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures. to be submitted to the European Physical Journal

This paper aims at analysing the celebration of the Portuguese language verified in the Brazilian issue number 479 of Vogue magazine, published in July 2018. The analysis adresses to the cover of the magazine as well to the text Portuguese in the vein, written by Nizan Guanaes and also published in the referred issue. Taking into account the conception of monolingual discourse, as designed by Zolin-Vesz and Santos (2017), it portrays the monolingual placement suggested by the cover and the text above mentioned in relation to the construction of an essentialized Portuguese language, a monolithic institution that contributes to the notion of homeland and has to be injected in the veins of Brazilian people as the inherent part of the axis national territory-language-identity-literature. Results suggest that the monolingual discourse conducts the celebration of the Portuguese language in the issue of Vogue magazine as well as contributes to harden the conception of (national) language.

ABSTRACT The upper Teles Pires River basin is located in the Brazilian agriculture frontier in the north of Mato Grosso state and has experienced significant changes in land use and cover, which can cause major changes in its hydrological dynamics. Climatic and hydrologic data are scarce in the region, which poses uncertainties in the decision-making process aiming at the sustainable management of water resources in this strategic area. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of the Large-Scale Distributed Hydrological Model (MGB-IPH) to assess water availability of the upper Teles Pires basin and support water resource management in the Amazon-Cerrado ecotone. The MGB-IPH model was calibrated and validated using data from three streamflow stations available in the basin. In order to verify the model performance, the Nash-Sutcliffe (NS) and the PBIAS statistical parameters were applied. Our results show that, by using the MGB-IPH model with generally available data, the maximum and minimum flow regimes can be successfully assessed in the upper Teles Pires basin. The continuity curves of daily flow simulated by the model showed a good fit with the observed flow. Overall, the results demonstrated the applicability of the MGB-IPH model for water resource assessment and management in the basin.

BackgroundRespiratory failure after acute spinal cord injury (SCI) is well recognized, but data defining which patients need long-term ventilator support and criteria for weaning and extubation are lacking. We hypothesized that many patients with SCI, even those with cervical SCI, can be successfully managed without long-term mechanical ventilation and its associated morbidity.MethodsUnder the auspices of the Western Trauma Association Multi-Center Trials Group, a retrospective study of patients with SCI at 14 major trauma centers was conducted. Comprehensive injury, demographic, and outcome data on patients with acute SCI were compiled. The primary outcome variable was the need for mechanical ventilation at discharge. Secondary outcomes included the use of tracheostomy and development of acute lung injury and ventilator-associated pneumonia.ResultsA total of 360 patients had SCI requiring mechanical ventilation. Sixteen patients were excluded for death within the first 2 days of hospitalization. Of the 344 patients included, 222 (64.5%) had cervical SCI. Notably, 62.6% of the patients with cervical SCI were ventilator free by discharge. One hundred forty-nine patients (43.3%) underwent tracheostomy, and 53.7% of them were successfully weaned from the ventilator, compared with an 85.6% success rate among those with no tracheostomy (p < 0.05). Patients who underwent tracheostomy had significantly higher rates of ventilator-associated pneumonia (61.1% vs. 20.5%, p < 0.05) and acute lung injury (12.8% vs. 3.6%, p < 0.05) and fewer ventilator-free days (1 vs. 24 p < 0.05). When controlled for injury severity, thoracic injury, and respiratory comorbidities, tracheostomy after cervical SCI was an independent predictor of ventilator dependence with an associated 14-fold higher likelihood of prolonged mechanical ventilation (odds ratio, 14.1; 95% confidence interval, 2.78-71.67; p < 0.05).ConclusionWhile many patients with SCI require short-term mechanical ventilation, the majority can be successfully weaned before discharge. In patients with SCI, tracheostomy is associated with major morbidity, and its use, especially among patients with cervical SCI, deserves further study.Level of evidencePrognostic study, level III.

Objective. Determination of the effectiveness of final disinfection treatment of virological laboratory rooms (with the passageway room between two entries) in the isolated zone used for work with pathogenic agents, of the maximum containment laboratory by fumigation with formaldehyde vapors, including the assessment of the optimal amount of formalin. Experimental evaluation of the suitability of the aerosol generator “Ultrasprayer P-60” for the final disinfection of the premises of the “contagious” zone with the “dry steam” of hydrogen peroxide. Materials and methods. The effectiveness of the final disinfection of the surfaces in the premises of the “infectious” zone of the maximum containment laboratory was evaluated using cambric test objects contaminated by the spore-forming test-culture B. thuringiensis. Results and discussion. As a result of experimental studies, the required amount of formalin was determined that is sufficient to completely inactivate possible infectious contaminants that may be potentially located on the surfaces of equipment and rooms located in the “contagious” zone of the maximum containment laboratory, during fumigation with formaldehyde vapors. The amount of formalin specified experimentally turned out to be 1.4 times more than the recommended by regulatory documentation for unventilated rooms, but 2-2.5 times less than that used for final disinfection of maximum containment laboratory previously. Disinfection treatment of the premises and equipment located in the “contagious” zone of the laboratory with 6 % hydrogen peroxide “dry steam”, which is the active agent of Disargent drug, sprayed through the «Ultrasprayer р-60» aerosol generator, was more effective than spray irrigation with 6 % hydrogen peroxide aerosol generated using pneumatic aerosol nozzles. At the same time, it was possible to achieve sufficiently complete inactivation of the test microorganism located on test objects at a concentration of 1·106 cells/cm2, by increasing the concentration of hydrogen peroxide sprayed by the device up to 10 %. However, even in that case, viable test microorganisms remained in the hidden cavities of the equipment and office machinery, which makes further studies relevant to establish the optimal concentration of hydrogen peroxide during the final disinfection with an «Ultrasprayer р-60» aerosol generator or similar equipment from other manufacturers.

General Medicine - Abstract
The question of the reliability of the operation of the exhaust devices almost always remains relevant during the operation of vacuum deaeration plants, since incorrect operation of the exhaust device entails violations of the vacuum deaeration process. As devices for the removal of non-condensing corrosive gases from vacuum deaerators, jet exhaust devices-ejectors are used, in which the kinetic energy of one stream is transferred to another stream by direct contact (mixing). According to the working body, ejectors are divided into water-jet and steam-jet. In this paper, the current scheme of inclusion of a water-jet ejector in the operation cycle of the Ulyanovsk CHP-2 is considered, problems and shortcomings of the scheme are identified, technical devices and their characteristics are described. The results of tests to determine the temperature and flow rate of the source water supplied to the gas separator tank to ensure stable operation of the EV-340 ejector are presented, which showed that the actual flow rate of the source chemically purified water to the gas separator tank is 17 m3/h, and the water temperature in the gas separator tank reaches 37°C, which exceeds the permissible temperature of the working water of the ejector by 7°C. An improved arrangement for the inclusion of a water-jet ejector in the operation cycle of the CHP is proposed, which provides sufficient cooling of the working water of the water-jet ejector by mixing this water with the source water, which is further cooled in the cooling tower. It is estimated that the new improved arrangement gives an economic effect of 2,5 million rubles/year.

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The angular dependence of the tensor Ayy and vector Ay analyzing powers in the inelastic scattering of deuterons with a momentum of 9.0 GeV/c on hydrogen and carbon have been measured. The range of measurements corresponds to the baryonic resonance excitation with masses 2.2--2.6 GeV/c^2. The Ayy data being in good agreement with the previous results demonstrate an approximate $t$ scaling up to -1.5 (GeV/c)^2. The large values of A_y show a significant role of the spin-dependent part of the elementary amplitude of the NN->NN* reaction. The results of the experiment are compared with model predictions of the plane-wave impulse approximation., Comment: 7 pages, 7 figures. submitted to Yad.Fiz

The invariant differential cross section for inclusive electron production in $p + p$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 200$~GeV has been measured by the PHENIX experiment at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider over the transverse momentum range $0.4 \le p_T \le 5.0$~GeV/$c$ in the central rapidity region ($|\eta| \le 0.35$). The contribution to the inclusive electron spectrum from semileptonic decays of hadrons carrying heavy flavor, {\it i.e.} charm quarks or, at high $p_T$, bottom quarks, is determined via three independent methods. The resulting electron spectrum from heavy flavor decays is compared to recent leading and next-to-leading order perturbative QCD calculations. The total cross section of charm quark-antiquark pair production is determined to be $\sigma_{c\bar{c}} = 0.92 \pm 0.15 {\rm (stat.)} \pm 0.54 {\rm (sys.)}$~mb., Comment: 329 authors, 6 pages text, 3 figures. v2 is version accepted for publication in Phys. Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
New data on the tensor analyzing power Ayy of the ^9Be(d,p)X reaction at an initial deuteron momentum of 5 GeV/c and secondary particles (protons and deuterons) detection angle of 178 mr have been obtained at the JINR Synchrophasotron. The proton data obtained are analyzed within the framework of an approach based on the light-front dynamics using Karmanov's relativistic deuteron wave function. Contrary to the calculations with standard non-relativistic deuteron wave functions, we have managed to explain the new data within the framework of our approach without invoking degrees of freedom additional to nucleon ones. The ^9Be(d,d)X data are obtained in the vicinity of the excitation of baryonic resonances with masses up to 1.8 GeV/c^2. The Ayy data are in a good agreement with the previous data obtained at 4.5 and 5.5 GeV/c when they are plotted versus $t$. The results of the experiment are compared with the predictions of the plane wave impulse approximation and \omega-meson exchange models., Comment: Talk given at the XVII-th International Baldin Seminar on High Energy Physics Problems, ISHEPP XVII, 27 September- 2 October 2004, Dubna, Russia, 8 pages, 5 figures

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
An angular dependence of the tensor analyzing power of the breakup of polarized deuterons at 9 GeV/$c$ has been investigated. The measurements have been made on hydrogen and carbon targets at angles in the range from 85 to 160 mr. The data obtained are analyzed within the framework of the light-front dynamics using the deuteron wave functions for Paris and Bonn CD potentials, and the relativistic deuteron wave function by Karmanov et al. The experimental data are in rough agreement with calculations with the use of Karmanov's deuteron wave function., Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures, Talk given at the XVII-th International Baldin Seminar on High Energy Physics Problems, ISHEPP XVII, 27 September- 2 October 2004, Dubna, Russia

Nuclear Experiment - Abstract
The Ayy data for deuteron inclusive breakup off hydrogen and carbon at a deuteron momentum of 9.0 GeV/c and large Pt of emitted protons are presented. The large values of Ayy independent of the target mass reflect the sensitivity of the data to the deuteron spin structure. The data obtained at fixed $x$ and plotted versus Pt clearly demonstrate the dependence of the deuteron spin structure at short internucleonic distances on two variables. The data are compared with the calculations using Paris, CD-Bonn and Karmanov's deuteron wave functions., Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, talk given at the SPIN2004 Conf., 10-16 Oct. 2004, Triest, Italy

modified photochemical reflectance indices ,PRI ,water shortage ,soil drought ,short-term heat ,photosynthetic changes ,Botany ,QK1-989 - Abstract
In environmental conditions, plants can be affected by the action of numerous abiotic stressors. These stressors can induce both damage of physiological processes and adaptive changes including signaling-based changes. Development of optical methods of revealing influence of stressors on plants is an important task for plant investigations. The photochemical reflectance index (PRI) based on plant reflectance at 531 nm (measuring wavelength) and 570 nm (reference wavelength) can be effective tool of revealing plant stress changes (mainly, photosynthetic changes); however, its efficiency is strongly varied at different conditions. Earlier, we proposed series of modified PRIs with moderate shifts of the measuring wavelength and showed that these indices can be effective for revealing photosynthetic changes under fluctuations in light intensity. The current work was devoted to the analysis of sensitivity of these modified PRIs to action of drought and short-term heat stress. Investigation of spatially-fixed leaves of pea plants showed that the modified PRI with the shorter measuring wavelength (515 nm) was increased under response of drought and heat; by contrast, the modified PRI with the longer wavelength (555 nm) was decreased under response to these stressors. Changes of investigated indices could be related to parameters of photosynthetic light reactions; however, these relations were stronger for the modified PRI with the 555 nm measuring wavelength. Investigation of canopy of pea (vegetation room) and wheat (vegetation room and open-ground) supported these results. Thus, moderate changes in the measuring wavelengths of PRI can strongly modify the efficiency of their use for the estimation of plant physiological changes (mainly photosynthetic changes) under action of stressors. It is probable that the modified PRI with the 555 nm measuring wavelength (or similar indices) can be an effective tool for revealing photosynthetic changes induced by stressors.

General Medicine - Abstract
The reliable and economical operation of equipment for thermal power plants, heat supply systems and boiler houses has been a relevant problem in the field of thermal power engineering for many years. In many industries, industrial steam is often used, for which steam boilers are used at thermal power plants. The water consumed by the boilers undergoes pre-treatment, which, in addition to its softening, includes thermal deaeration — the removal of aggressive gases that lead to equipment corrosion. Atmospheric deaerators are often used for this purpose. They are easy to use, quite effective, but have a disadvantage — a considerable amount of heat is lost with the removed flash steam. The article is dedicated to evaluating the cost-effectiveness of the technology for additional heating of return system water using deaerator steam and considering a method for improving the efficiency of atmospheric deaeration by partial closure of flash steam output in boiler plants. The paper presents a calculation of the scheme of operation of a deaeration plant, which makes it possible to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the boiler house of the AB InBev Efes brewery in Ulyanovsk due to additional heating of return system water with atmospheric deaerator flash steam. The article also discusses the scheme of operation of an atmospheric deaerator, in which the flash steam will be discharged into the atmosphere only if it is necessary to remove aggressive gases. Thanks to the developed scheme, when the deaerator operates with a closed flash steam removal pipeline and without being fed with chemically purified water, the consumption of industrial steam is reduced, especially with a significant return of condensate, which increases the efficiency of the entire boiler room as a whole. According to preliminary calculations, assuming the average return of condensate from production per day of about 300 m3, the production steam savings will be 0.8 tons.

General Works - Abstract
The use of mobile shelters to raise calves has been a practical alternative to farmers, taking into account their importance in reducing the spread of diseases as well as thermal stress. Despite the fact that individual shelters are widely employed in the country, there is little information on the thermal efficiency of materials that are normally used to build them (Barnabé et al, 2014), as well as the high cost involved in their construction. The aim of this study was to evaluate the following variables: temperature, relative humidity and temperature-humidity index (THI), and the cost-benefit ratio of the recyclable materials used to cover the shelters. Bottle PET (T2), tires (T3), milk packaging (Tetrapack™) (T4) and one sensor as baseline left in full sun. During a 40 days period, the temperature and relative humidity data were recorded hourly, to obtain daily averages. There was no statistical difference (p> 0.05) between materials related to temperature, relative humidity and ITU averages. Even the critical temperature and humidity do not presented significant variation between the treatments (p> 0.05). Considering the results, there is no significant differences among the materials used related to the thermal efficiency based on the above mentioned variables . Therefore, it can be concluded that thereplacement of the conventional roof (Eternit®) by these alternative materials becomes feasible, based on the lower costs and the ecological appeal for recycle materials.

This paper aims at suggesting possibilities to consider Me llamo Rigoberta Menchú y así me nació la conciencia, which was published in 1985, as an opportunity to a non canonical literature teaching in high school. In accordance with Grosfoguel’s proposition (2008) to move the positioning from the European man to American indigenous women, such as Rigoberta Menchú, and seeking to embrace those literatures that are still hardly studied in high school, it is suggested to build perspectives to discuss social life aspects, in particular those exclusion and social injustice situations that are perpetuated by the process of coloniality.

The netted melon requires special growing conditions, including a protected environment, an adequate staking system and proper water and nutrient management. This study aimed to assess the effect of irrigation levels and silicon doses on the yield and quality of Sunrise hybrid melons, in a greenhouse. A randomized block design was used, with a 5 x 3 factorial scheme and four replications. The first factor consisted of five silicon doses (0 kg ha-1, 50 kg ha-1, 100 kg ha-1, 150 kg ha-1 and 200 kg ha-1) and the second of three irrigation levels (40 %, 70 % and 100 % of the ETc). The results demonstrated that the applied irrigation levels and silicon doses have no influence on the yield traits of melon plants. The irrigation level corresponding to 100 % of the ETc promotes higher values for soluble solids (9.86 ºBrix) and maturation index (114.9) on fruits. The increase of silicon doses up to 200 kg ha-1 also increases the maturation index in the treatment with the greatest irrigation level and reduces this index at the shallowest level applied.

ABSTRACT The upper Teles Pires River basin is a key hydrological resource for the state of Mato Grosso, but has suffered rapid land use and cover change. The basin includes areas of Cerrado biome, as well as transitional areas between the Amazon and Cerrado vegetation types, with intensive large-scale agriculture widely-spread throughout the region. The objective of this study was to explore the spatial and temporal dynamics of land use and cover change from 1986 to 2014 in the upper Teles Pires basin using remote sensing and GIS techniques. TM (Thematic Mapper) and TIRS (Thermal Infrared Sensor) sensor images aboard the Landsat 5 and Landsat 8, respectively, were employed for supervised classification using the “Classification Workflow” in ENVI 5.0. To evaluate classification accuracy, an error matrix was generated, and the Kappa, overall accuracy, errors of omission and commission, user accuracy and producer accuracy indexes calculated. The classes showing greatest variation across the study period were “Agriculture” and “Rainforest”. Results indicated that deforested areas are often replaced by pasture and then by agriculture, while direct conversion of forest to agriculture occured less frequently. The indices with satisfactory accuracy levels included the Kappa and Global indices, which showed accuracy levels above 80% for all study years. In addition, the producer and user accuracy indices ranged from 59-100% and 68-100%, while the errors of omission and commission ranged from 0-32% and 0-40.6%, respectively.

Bell pepper is a vegetable-fruit of great economic importance in Brazil. Crop production demands adequate water supply, nutrients, and light. The objective of this study was to evaluate gas exchange (net photosynthesis, stomatal conductance, transpiration, internal carbon concentration and instantaneous carboxylation efficiency) and dry mass accumulation in leaves and roots under fertigation with nitrogen and potassium. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design in a factorial scheme (4 × 4) with four replications and a total of 64 experimental units. Treatments consisted of a combination of four nitrogen doses (0; 73.4; 146.8 and 293.6 kg ha-1 of N) with four doses of potassium (0; 53.3; 106.7 and 213.4 kg ha-1 of K). An infrared gas analyzer (IRGA) coupled with a light source (irradiation of 600 µmol m-2 s-1) was used for the evaluation of gas exchange. There was a significant interactive effect of N and K on net photosynthesis and leaf and root dry mass. Root dry mass was the variable that best expressed this interaction. Physiological variables measured were more responsive to nitrogen fertilization than to K fertilization. The optimum values of stomatal conductance, transpiration, internal carbon concentration and carboxylation efficiency were obtained with the application of nitrogen doses between 147 and 294 kg ha-1.

Fertilization is important for the optimization of plant growth and yield, which are necessary for agronomic activities. Soil fertilization should increase net earnings that depend on nutrient use efficiency. The aim of this study was to evaluate the agronomic efficiency of eggplant under different doses of potassium (K) and nitrogen (N). Four levels of K (0, 54, 108, and 216 kg ha-1) and four levels of N (0, 67, 134, and 268 kg ha-1) were applied weekly by fertigation. The highest plant and the largest stem diameter were found with 165-175 kg ha-1 of N. Leaf area was more influenced by N than by K. Isolated application of different K doses did not statistically influence height plant, stem diameter, or leaf dry matter. The agronomic efficiency of nitrogen is reduced with increasing levels of N and K.

Net flow, suspended sediments and turbidity in the Caiabi River microbasin, in the Cerrado-Amazon ecotono ABSTRACT: The objective was to determine the liquid flows, the suspended sediment concentrations and the turbidity in a fluviometric section, in the central region of the Caiabi River microbasin (MBHRC), located in the transition between the Amazon forest and the Cerrado. Key curves were established for liquid and solid flows, in addition to turbidity estimates. Field monitoring took place between December 2020 and December 2021, with monthly measurement of liquid flows and collection of water and sediment samples. The acquired results made it possible to adjust the net key curve with a Nash-Sutcliffe index (NSE) of 0.9928, coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.9964 and absolute mean deviation (D%) of 3.7264. By adjusting the relationships between the variables evaluated, it was observed that the net discharge can explain about 80% of the sediment discharge in the MBHRC, while the concentration of suspended sediments can explain about 70% of the total discharge. of sediment. The turbidity values measured by Turbidimeter were correlated with the concentration of suspended sediments and with the total solid discharges, resulting in R² values up to 0.8807 (NTU X Qss) and R² values up to 0.7185 (NTU x Css). General Medicine - Abstract
Reliable and economical operation of the equipment of thermal heat supply systems and boiler installations is an important and challenging task. High-quality water treatment directly affects the efficiency of boiler installations. The main stages of water treatment at thermal power plants are pretreatment, desalination and thermal deaeration — removal of aggressive gases that lead to corrosion of equipment. Currently, there are a significant number of manufacturing enterprises that are equipped with their own boiler plants. In boiler houses used for steam generation, as well as heating boilers serving heating system, water deaeration is a mandatory process. The article is dedicated to the development of a technology to make the boiler installations more economical and efficient due to additional heating of the return system water with deaerator flash steam. In this paper, the process of water deaeration is considered on the example of the boiler room of the AB InBev Efes brewery in Ulyanovsk, where the heating station is equipped with automation systems, and the regulation of steam supply for heating is carried out automatically depending on the temperature of the return system water. Due to the designed arrangement and depending on the amount of flash steam of the atmospheric deaerator, the return water of the heating system can be heated by 3 - 10°C. Besides, during periods of warm winters at the Ulyanovsk-based brewery of AB InBev Efes, with minimal loads of the boiler plant, heating of the return system water in the heat exchanger with the flash steam of the atmospheric deaerator may be used as the main or additional stage of heating.

Fires have taken a central role in the discussions on environmental conservation in Brazil and worldwide. In this study, we investigated the temporal evolution of soil cover and the restoration of vegetation in a burned area (BA) and another unburned area (UBA) in a Cerrado stricto sensu, using aerial images and the ImageJ® software. Soil cover changed little over time and there was no difference between the areas regarding restoration of vegetation. Otherwise, the ImageJ® software proved useful in evaluating the evolution of soil cover and, due to its simplicity and free access, it can be used in the processing of individual images for the calculation of exposed soil area.

Patient-reported outcome measures for parathyroid and thyroid disease (PROMPT) is a 30-question, previously validated, survey assessing symptoms on a scale from 0 to 100. Using PROMPT, we aimed to assess symptom improvement for patients undergoing thyroidectomy and parathyroidectomy.Single-center prospective study in which PROMPT was used to assess symptom improvement in patients undergoing parathyroidectomy or thyroidectomy. A postoperative assessment was performed approximately 6 months after surgery and compared to its baseline preoperative assessment.A total of 144 patients completed both assessments (71 parathyroidectomy, 73 thyroidectomy). Parathyroidectomy patients demonstrated significant improvements in all hyperparathyroidism domains (38.2-28.3, p 0.001) regardless of preoperative calcium and parathyroid hormone levels. Thyroidectomy patients experienced improvement in their compressive symptoms (25.6-16.5, p 0.001).PROMPT objectively demonstrates the clinical effectiveness of parathyroidectomy and thyroidectomy in alleviating subjective patient symptoms. PROMPT offers promising use as a standardized metric to assess quality of life improvement within endocrine surgery.
