210. Factors associated with HIV and syphilis co-infection among men who have sex with men in seven Chinese cities.

Abstract

HIV-syphilis co-infection is often cited as a major reason behind recent resurgence in syphilis prevalence among men who have sex with men in China. Most published literatures explore factors associated with either HIV or syphilis, but not their co-infection. We analysed data from a cross-sectional survey on men who have sex with men in seven Chinese cities. Snowball sampling was used to recruit participants for the survey. Socio-demographic and behavioral predictors for HIV-syphilis mono/co-infection were examined using ordinal logistic regression. Factor scores were used to summarise (1) HIV-related knowledge and (2) access to HIV preventive services. Prevalence of HIV, syphilis, and their co-infection, among 2936 self-identified men who have sex with men, were 7.7%, 14.3%, and 2.6%, respectively. In the adjusted analysis, the significant positive correlates of poorer diagnoses (co-infection vs mono- and no infection or co- and mono-infection vs no infection) were -30 to 39 years and ≥40 years age, education up to senior high school, unprotected anal intercourse, recent sexually transmitted disease symptoms, incorrect knowledge about routes of transmission, and access to preventive or counselling/testing services for HIV. For effective control of this dual epidemic, integrated HIV and syphilis surveillance and targeted intervention strategies for Chinese men who have sex with men are need of the hour.

Abstract

Bifunctional phthalonitrile‐benzoxazine (PNBZ) usually suffers from slow‐curing characteristics. Recently, we unexpectedly observed a waste liquid containing PNBZ solution and excess ethylenediamine (EDA) had turned into a gel at room temperature. Since the report on the PNBZ gelling phenomenon below 150°C was rare, this accidental finding manifested the possible formation of PNBZ gel at low temperatures. By varying the EDA molar ratio, PNBZ gels with different microstructures were successfully realized at the low temperature of 50°C. Through the differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analyse (TGA), and Fourier transform infrared technique, the driving force behind the gel formation was found to be the low‐temperature copolymerization between the amino group of EDA and the BZ ring of PNBZ, resulting in the amine‐containing intermediate. PNBZ gel was thermally unstable, but was mechanically robust. The current method was also universal to realize polymer or composite gels for a class of slow‐curing PNBZ resin (i.e., allyl‐containing PNBZ gel and its carbon nanotube‐filled composite gel). This study not only expands our understanding of the low‐temperature polymerization behavior of PNBZ but also provides a versatile strategy for low‐temperature preparation of PNBZ‐based gels. 214. Clinicopathological Characteristics, Treatment and Prognosis in Duodenal Adenocarcinoma with Liver Metastasis: A SEER-Based Study.

Abstract

Objectives: Duodenal adenocarcinoma (DAC) is a rare tumor that is often accompanied by liver metastasis in advanced stages. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between clinicopathological characteristics and survival in DAC patients with liver metastasis, and to explore appropriate treatment options. Methods: 482 DAC patients with liver metastasis were retrospectively identified from the Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) database (2011– 2020). Univariate and multivariate Cox regression analyses were performed to explore the clinicopathological factors related to survival. The Kaplan-Meier method was used to identify the independent risk factors associated with survival. Results: The 1-year overall survival (OS) and cancer-specific survival (CSS) rates for the entire cohort were 25.4% and 28.3%, and the 5-year OS and CSS rates were 2.4% and 2.9% respectively. Univariable analysis and multivariate analysis identified chemotherapy and surgery as the independent risk factors for OS and CSS. Patients who underwent chemotherapy and surgery had better CSS and OS rates, whereas radiotherapy failed to improve outcomes. Conclusion: We identified several prognostic factors of DAC with liver metastasis. Chemotherapy and surgery can prolong the survival of DAC patients with liver metastasis, which lays the foundation for identifying the optimal treatment strategy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

221. Pharmacokinetics of oral ethanamizuril solution in chickens

Abstract

Ethanamizuril (EZL) is a novel triazine anticoccidial compound that has high anticoccidial activity in chickens. In order to treat coccidiosis rationally in poultry, a detection method was developed for ethanamizuril in broiler plasma, and then the pharmacokinetics studies were performed in broilers after oral administration of different dose levels. Ethanamizuril was administered as single oral doses at low (0.67 mg kg−1 BW), medium (1.33 mg kg−1 BW) and high (6.67 mg kg−1 BW) levels in which the medium dose was that recommended in clinics. Plasma concentrations of ethanamizuril were determined using ultra-high performance liquid chromatography and the data were analyzed with a non-compartmental model. Peak plasma concentrations of ethanamizuril were (2.16±0.57), (3.91±0.71), and (23.71±5.02) mg L−1 at (5.17±1.80), (4.60±2.12), and (4.60±2.12) h, respectively. The terminal elimination half-lives (t1/2λz) for ethanamizuril were (10.84±2.59), (10.66±2.47), and (13.34±3.10) h after oral administration at low, medium and high doses, respectively. The areas under the concentration-time curve (AUC0–t) were (37.68±6.87), (73.19±9.18), and (485.76±125.10) mg L−1 h with mean residence times (MRT0–t) of (14.79±3.03), (15.57±3.69), and (20.22±4.01) h at the 3 dosages, respectively. Ethanamizuril was absorbed rapidly and eliminated slowly. A comparison across the dose range indicated that the time to reach peak plasma concentration (Tmax) values were similar while peak plasma concentration (Cmax) and AUC0–t were positively correlated with increasing dosages. This study of the pharmacokinetics of an ethanamizuril solution in chickens provides a theoretical basis for the rational use in the clinic.

222. DAXX promotes ovarian cancer ascites cell proliferation and migration by activating the ERK signaling pathway

Abstract

Abstract Background The death-domain-associated protein (DAXX) was originally identified as a protein that binds to the transmembrane death receptor FAS and enhances both FAS-induced and transforming growth factor-β-dependent apoptosis. In a previous study, we found that nude mice injected with DAXX-overexpressing cells (ES-2-DAXX) accumulated large concentrations of first-generation ascites cells (I ascites cells). The role of DAXX in the development of ascites is unknown. The aim of this study was to analyze the effect of DAXX on proliferation and migration of ascites cells in ovarian cancer in vitro and in vivo. Methods Nude mice were housed in cages with a 14:10 h light:dark cycle; water and food were provided ad libitum. ES-2-DAXX cells (1×106) were injected intraperitoneally into athymic nude mice (8-week-old female mice). After 4 weeks, I ascites cells were collected. The I ascites cells were injected intraperitoneally into athymic nude mice (8-week-old female mice). After 4 weeks, II ascites cells were collected and cultured. Ascites cell survival, migration, and colony formation were measured using colony formation and cell growth assays. Immunofluorescent staining revealed the co-localization of DAXX and promyelocytic leukemia protein (PML) in ascites cell nuclei. Western blotting and immunohistochemistry showed that extracellular signal-related kinase (p-ERK) 1/2 and CEBP-β were highly expressed in tumor tissues formed by II ascites cells. Through immunoprecipitation, we also found that DAXX can interact with CEBP-β. Results DAXX enhanced ascites cell survival, migration, and colony formation. DAXX and PML nuclear foci dramatically increased in a passage-dependent manner in ascites cells, DAXX promoted the tumor growth of ascites cells in vivo, increased ascites cell proliferation in vivo, and enhanced ascites cell survival and migration by activating the ERK signalling pathway and integrating with CEBP-β. Conclusions DAXX can interact with CEBP-β. DAXX can induce ovarian cancer ascites formation by activating the ERK signal pathway and binding to CEBP-β.

Abstract

Strata erosion in northwest China has become an engineering concern as a result of overdevelopment of land. This issue is more distinct for loess soil than other soils since it is characterised by metastable microstructure, high porosity, and water sensitivity. This study explores the potential for the use of agricultural waste straw as a recycled reinforcement material to form the enhanced shearing behaviour towards preventing instability of the loess body. The stress-strain relation and the pore pressure behaviour of Lantian loess and reinforced Lantian loess were studied using the conventional triaxial compression (CTC) stress path for three different confining pressures. Comparison with Jingyang loess and Delhi silt of similar relative fraction of silt to clay, sheared under the reduced triaxial compression (RTC) stress path and the reduced triaxial extension (RTE) stress paths, respectively, was conducted, with emphasis on strength uniqueness and critical state behaviour, to shed light on the effect of waste straw inclusions. The results indicate that the stress path in undrained compression and extension tests had a pronounced effect on the stress-strain relation of the studied soils. Insertion of the waste straw in Lantian loess restrained the development of volumetric deformation, producing higher pore pressures than Lantian loess (unreinforced). This study explores an exciting potential for the use of agricultural waste straw to prevent instability of the loess body in hilly-gullied regions of northwest China when subjected to quick surface thick fills.

Abstract

Abstract Background The repair and reconstruction of maxillary and mandibular extensive defects have put huge challenges to surgeons. The fibular free flap (FFF) is one of the standard treatment choices for reconstruction. The conventional FFF has deficiencies, such as forming poor oral mucosa, limited flap tissue, and perforator vessel variation. To improve the use of FFF, we add the flexor hallucis longus (FHL) in the flap (FHL-FFF). In this paper, we described the advantage and indication of FHL-FFF and conducted a retrospective study to compare FHL-FFF and FFF without FHL. Methods Fifty-four patients who underwent FFF were enrolled and divided into two groups: nFHL group (using FFF without FHL, 38 patients) and FHL group (using FHL-FFF, 16 patients). The perioperative clinical data of patients was collected and analyzed. Results The flaps all survived in two groups. We mainly used FHL to fill dead space, and the donor-site morbidity was slight. In FHL group, flap harvesting time was shorter (118.63 ± 11.76 vs 125.74 ± 11.33 min, P = 0.042), the size of flap’s skin paddle was smaller (16.5 (0–96) vs 21.0(10–104) cm2, P = 0.027) than nFHL group. There were no significant differences (P > 0.05) in hospital days, hospitalization expense, rate of perioperative complications, etc. between the two groups. Compared with FFF without FHL, FHL-FFF will neither affect the use of flap nor bring more problems. Conclusion The FHL-FFF simplifies the flap harvesting operation. The FHL can form good mucosa and make FFF rely less on skin paddle. It can be used for adding flap tissue and dealing with perforator vessel variation in reconstruction of maxillary and mandibular extensive defects.

Abstract

The optimization design for solving trapped-oil pressure relief of gear pump under higher speed is studied,taking the modulus,tooth number and modification coefficient as optimization variable,by the analysis of the maximum trapped-oil volume and maximum relief area,the two objective functions of are established releasing the trapped-oil pressure. Combining with the current requirements of the flow pulsation rate and the pump volume per unit rated flow and the radial force corresponding of external gear pump,the optimization model is built by using the SUMT technology that full name is sequential unconstrained minimization technique.Aiming at the result before optimization and after,the simulation analysis and verification of trapped oil pressures are respectively carried out. The results indicate that,the larger the modulus is and the smaller the tooth number and the modification coefficient are,the larger the maximum relief area is and the better the relief effect of trapped-oil pressure is. The smaller the tooth number and the modification coefficient are,the larger the maximum trapped-oil flow is and the worse the relief effect of trapped-oil pressure is,so an optimization problem is existed. The simulation result of an example is consistent with the experimental results provided by the literature before the optimization design,and the error between the experimental results and the simulation results is controlled in near 4. 9%,the reliability of the trapped-oil model is validated. After the optimization design,the value of the maximum trapped-oil pressure is reduced by 65. 41%,the relief effect of trapped-oil pressure is obvious.

238. Bearing Fault Diagnosis Based on Local Manifold Discriminant Domain Adaptation

Abstract

Transfer learning (TL) has been widely applied in bearing defect diagnosis across various working conditions. However, some existing methods overlook the local and discriminative manifold structures hidden in samples with different distributions, which may degrade model diagnostic performance. In this study, a local manifold discriminant domain adaptation (LMDDA) TL method is proposed for bearing fault diagnosis. The source and target domains are first converted in manifold feature subspace to obtain robust feature representations. Then, an intermediate domain with a similar distribution to the target domain is generated from the source domain in the potential common subspace to reduce the distribution difference between source and target domains. Meanwhile, the local generated discrepancy metric is used to evaluate the discriminability of data, preserve the local manifold structure of the generated data, and align the local data. The intermediate and target domains are aligned by the maximum mean discrepancy metric to enhance the consistency of the local and global structures of data. On this basis, the low-rank constraint is introduced to guarantee the correlation between source and target data in virtue of the block diagonal property, which can improve the generalization ability and performance stability of the model. Finally, the least-squares method is utilized to achieve bearing fault diagnosis. A series of cross-domain fault diagnosis experiments was carried out to verify the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method, and the results illustrate that LMDDA can accurately detect diverse fault types and handle intricate cross-domain adaptive scenarios.
