As the areca nut market is expanding, there is a growing concern regarding areca nut toxicity. Areca nut alkaloids are the major risky components in betel nuts, and their toxic effects are not fully understood. Here, we investigated the parental and transgenerational toxicity of varied doses of areca nut alkaloids in Caenorhabditis elegans. The results showed that the minimal effective concentration of arecoline is 0.2–0.4 mM. First, arecoline exhibited transgenerational toxicity on the worms' longevity, oviposition, and reproduction. Second, the redox homeostasis of C. elegans was markedly altered under exposure to 0.2–0.4 mM arecoline. The mitochondrial membrane potential was thereafter impaired, which was also associated with the induction of apoptosis. Moreover, antioxidant treatments such as lycopene could significantly ameliorate the toxic effects caused by arecoline. In conclusion, arecoline enhances the ROS levels, inducing neurotoxicity, developmental toxicity, and reproductive toxicity in C. elegans through dysregulated oxidative stress, cell apoptosis, and DNA damage-related gene expression. Dirigent (DIR) genes play a pivotal role in plant development and stress adaptation. Manihot esculenta Crantz, commonly known as cassava, is a drought-resistant plant thriving in tropical and subtropical areas. It is extensively utilized for starch production, bioethanol, and animal feed. However, a comprehensive analysis of the DIR family genes remains unexplored in cassava, a crucial cash and forage crop in tropical and subtropical regions. In this study, we characterize a total of 26 cassava DIRs (MeDIRs) within the cassava genome, revealing their uneven distribution across 13 of the 18 chromosomes. Phylogenetic analysis classified these genes into four subfamilies: DIR-a, DIR-b/d, DIR-c, and DIR-e. Comparative synteny analysis with cassava and seven other plant species (Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana), poplar (Populus trichocarpa), soybean (Glycine max), tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), rice (Oryza sativa), maize (Zea mays), and wheat (Triticum aestivum)) provided insights into their likely evolution. We also predict protein interaction networks and identify cis-acting elements, elucidating the functional differences in MeDIR genes. Notably, MeDIR genes exhibited specific expression patterns across different tissues and in response to various abiotic and biotic stressors, such as pathogenic bacteria, cadmium chloride (CdCl2), and atrazine. Further validation through quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) confirmed the response of DIR genes to osmotic and salt stress. These findings offer a comprehensive resource for understanding the characteristics and biological functions of MeDIR genes in cassava, enhancing our knowledge of plant stress adaptation mechanisms. Single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT)-based flexible thermoelectric films exhibit potential application in wearable electronics due to their good electrical conductivity (σ) and high flexibility. Nevertheless, the low Seebeck coefficient (S) greatly limits their thermoelectric application. The high S of inorganic boron nitride nanosheets is expected to make up for the low S of SWCNT. In this work, exfoliated boron nitride nanosheets (EBNS) are first prepared by solvothermal exfoliation of hexagonal boron nitride (h-BN), which are composited with SWCNT through a simple mixing and filtration method to prepare self-supporting EBNS/SWCNT films with improved thermoelectric properties. Here, the energy filtering effect at the EBNS/SWCNT interface significantly improves the S values of the films. The results show that the maximum S of the EBNS/SWCNT at room temperature is 50.6 μV K–1 and the maximum power factor (PF) is 116.1 μW m–1 K–2 at the EBNS/SWCNT mass ratio of 7.5%. Finally, six pairs of p-type EBNS/SWCNT films and n-type copper sheets are connected in series to assemble a self-powered thermoelectric device, which demonstrates an open-circuit voltage of 8.1 mV and an output power of 550 nW under a temperature difference of 60 K. In recent years, the progressively escalating incidence and exceptionally high fatality rate of cutaneous melanoma have drawn the attention of numerous scholars. Magnetic induction hyperthermia, as an efficacious tumor treatment modality, has been promoted and applied in the therapy of some tumors. In this paper, the melanoma atop the mice's heads was chosen as the research subject, and a magnetic induction hyperthermia approach based on Helmholtz coils as the magnetic field excitation was investigated and designed. The influence of the electromagnetic field and thermal field on organisms was addressed through modeling by COMSOL simulation software. The results showed that the maximum values of induced electric field and magnetic induction strength in mouse tumor tissues were 63.1 V/m and 8.5621 mT, respectively, which reached the threshold value of magnetic field strength required for magnetic induction hyperthermia. The maxima of the induced electric field and magnetic induction intensity in brain tissues are, respectively, 35.828 V/m and 8.57 mT. Approximately 93% of the tumor tissue can reach 42 °C, and the maximum temperature is 44.2 °C. Within this temperature range, a large quantity of tumor cells can be successfully induced to undergo apoptosis without harming normal cells, and the therapeutic effect is favorable. A self-powered photoelectrochemical (PEC) aptamer sensor based on ZnIn2S4 as the photoanode and Cu2O@Ag@Ag3PO4 as the sensing cathode is designed for the detection of Hg2+. An indium tin oxide (ITO) electrode modified with ZnIn2S4 was used instead of a platinum (Pt) counter electrode to provide an obviously stable photocurrent signal. The suitable band gap width of ZnIn2S4 can generate photogenerated electrons well. The unique hydrangea structure of ZnIn2S4 can enhance light absorption and accelerate the separation and transfer of photocarriers. At the same time, Cu2O@Ag@Ag3PO4 with excellent electrical conductivity further enhances the photocurrent provided by the ZnIn2S4 photoanode. Because the reducing substances in the biological medium can change the photoanode characteristics of the photoanode interface, the separation of the photoanode and the sensing bicathode is beneficial to improve the anti-interference ability of the sensor. Under optimized conditions, the PEC aptamer sensor realizes the detection of Hg2+ (1 mM–1 fM), and the detection limit is 0.4 fM. In addition, the constructed self-powered PEC sensor has good selectivity, repeatability, and stability, which provides a new idea for the design of the PEC aptamer sensor platform.
