Pre-trained language models (LMs) have shown remarkable reasoning performance using explanations (or ``chain-of-thought'' (CoT)) for in-context learning. On the other hand, these reasoning tasks are usually presumed to be more approachable for symbolic programming. To make progress towards understanding in-context learning, we curate synthetic datasets containing equivalent (natural, symbolic) data pairs, where symbolic examples contain first-order logic rules and predicates from knowledge bases (KBs). Then we revisit neuro-symbolic approaches and use Language Models as Logic Programmer (LMLP) that learns from demonstrations containing logic rules and corresponding examples to iteratively reason over KBs, recovering Prolog's backward chaining algorithm. Comprehensive experiments are included to systematically compare LMLP with CoT in deductive reasoning settings, showing that LMLP enjoys more than 25% higher accuracy than CoT on length generalization benchmarks even with fewer parameters., NeurIPS Neuro Causal and Symbolic AI Workshop, 2022

In this work, SiBNC ceramic aerogels were prepared by the hydrosilylation reaction between precursor polyborosilazane and a cross-linking agent divinylbenzene in a highly diluted solvent, with the presence of Karstedt catalyst. The obtained SiBNC ceramic aerogels possess the characteristics of light weight, high porosity, and relatively wide pore size distribution (3–140 nm). The electromagnetic wave (EMW) absorption of the SiBNC aerogels was studied by a vector network analyzer. When the solvent fraction was 90%, the sample thickness was 3.0 mm, and the SiBNC aerogel had good absorption properties with a reflection loss of 25.05dB@16.07 GHz. These SiBNC ceramic aerogels also showed excellent temperature resistance and a unique three-dimensional network structure. They are thus expected to find application in the high-temperature absorption field.

A fundamental challenge for machine learning models is generalizing to out-of-distribution (OOD) data, in part due to spurious correlations. To tackle this challenge, we first formalize the OOD generalization problem as constrained optimization, called Disentanglement-constrained Domain Generalization (DDG). We relax this non-trivial constrained optimization problem to a tractable form with finite-dimensional parameterization and empirical approximation. Then a theoretical analysis of the extent to which the above transformations deviates from the original problem is provided. Based on the transformation, we propose a primal-dual algorithm for joint representation disentanglement and domain generalization. In contrast to traditional approaches based on domain adversarial training and domain labels, DDG jointly learns semantic and variation encoders for disentanglement, enabling flexible manipulation and augmentation on training data. DDG aims to learn intrinsic representations of semantic concepts that are invariant to nuisance factors and generalizable across domains. Previous works on Treatment Effect Estimation (TEE) are not in widespread use because they are predominantly theoretical, where strong parametric assumptions are made but untractable for practical application. Recent work uses multilayer perceptron (MLP) for modeling casual relationships, however, MLPs lag far behind recent advances in ML methodology, which limits their applicability and generalizability. To extend beyond the single domain formulation and towards more realistic learning scenarios, we explore model design spaces beyond MLPs, i.e., transformer backbones, which provide flexibility where attention layers govern interactions among treatments and covariates to exploit structural similarities of potential outcomes for confounding control. Through careful model design, Transformers as Treatment Effect Estimators (TransTEE) is proposed. We show empirically that TransTEE can: (1) serve as a general purpose treatment effect estimator that significantly outperforms competitive baselines in a variety of challenging TEE problems (e.g., discrete, continuous, structured, or dosage-associated treatments) and is applicable to both when covariates are tabular and when they consist of structural data (e.g., texts, graphs); (2) yield multiple advantages: compatibility with propensity score modeling, parameter efficiency, robustness to continuous treatment value distribution shifts, explainable in covariate adjustment, and real-world utility in auditing pre-trained language models

This paper presents a comprehensive survey of vision-language (VL) intelligence from the perspective of time. This survey is inspired by the remarkable progress in both computer vision and natural language processing, and recent trends shifting from single modality processing to multiple modality comprehension. We summarize the development in this field into three time periods, namely task-specific methods, vision-language pre-training (VLP) methods, and larger models empowered by large-scale weakly-labeled data. We first take some common VL tasks as examples to introduce the development of task-specific methods. Then we focus on VLP methods and comprehensively review key components of the model structures and training methods. After that, we show how recent work utilizes large-scale raw image-text data to learn language-aligned visual representations that generalize better on zero or few shot learning tasks. Finally, we discuss some potential future trends towards modality cooperation, unified representation, and knowledge incorporation. We believe that this review will be of help for researchers and practitioners of AI and ML, especially those interested in computer vision and natural language processing.

With the promotion of Remote Medical Treatment, the sharing of big telemedicine data becomes more and more popular. Telemedicine based on wireless sensor networks collects blood pressure, pH value, pulse, and other medical information from the telemedicine healthcare terminal. The medical information is sent to the hospital or medical server for processing. The security protection of patient medical data, such as confidentiality and authenticity, has gradually become a critical problem to be solved in the development of cloud medical service platform. A provably secure identity-based designated-verifier proxy signature scheme with information recovery for cloud medical diagnosis network is proposed. The scheme is on the basis of computational Diffie-Hellman difficult problem and existential unforgeable against adaptive chosen message attacks in the random oracle model. The performance analysis shows that the scheme is appropriate to the remote medical diagnosis system.
