Abstract

Olefin/paraffin separations are among the most energy-intensive processes in the petrochemical industry, with ethylene being the most widely consumed chemical feedstock. Adsorptive separation utilizing molecular sieving adsorbents can optimize energy efficiency, whereas the size-exclusive mechanism alone cannot achieve multiple olefin/paraffin sieving in a single adsorbent. Herein, an unprecedented sieving adsorbent, BFFOUR-Cu-dpds (BFFOUR = BF4-, dpds = 4,4'-bipyridinedisulfide), is reported for simultaneous sieving of C2-C4 olefins from their corresponding paraffins. The interlayer spaces can be selectively opened through stronger guest-host interactions induced by unsaturated C = C bonds in olefins, as opposed to saturated paraffins. In equimolar six-component breakthrough experiments (C2H4/C2H6/C3H6/C3H8/n-C4H8/n-C4H10), BFFOUR-Cu-dpds can simultaneously divide olefins from paraffins in the first column, while high-purity ethylene (> 99.99%) can be directly obtained through the subsequent column using granular porous carbons. Moreover, gas-loaded single-crystal analysis, in-situ infrared spectroscopy measurements, and computational simulations demonstrate the accommodation patterns, interaction bonds, and energy pathways for olefin/paraffin separations. Olefin/paraffin separations are challenging in chemical industry. Here, authors report a sieving adsorbent for separating C2-C4 olefins from counterpart paraffins. Abstract

The sluggish ion transport kinetics and poor interface compatibility are the major challenges for developing high‐performance solid‐state zinc metal batteries. Here, using the densified polyacrylonitrile/silicon dioxide (PAN‐SiO2) nanofiber membrane as a unique multifunctional mediator, a novel mediator‐bridged type of ultrathin (28.6 µm) polymer electrolyte that is rationally designed. The PAN/SiO2 /polyethylene oxide/Zn(OTf)2(PSPZ) polymer electrolyte is demonstrated to significantly enhance multiple kinetics. In addition to superior mechanical properties, the efficient thermal conductive effect endows it with good high‐temperature structural stability. Interestingly, a unique PAN skeleton‐locking‐anion‐enabled fast ion transport mechanism is uncovered to achieve a high Zn2+ migration number (0.71). Moreover, an efficient dendrite‐free Zn deposition guided by a flat dense SEI is demonstrated. In this case, highly reversible Zn metal anodes can be realized in the temperature range extending to −25–80 °C, as well as an impressive 4800 h‐cycle lifespan at the condition of 0.1 mA cm−2. Beyond that, wide‐temperature, high‐rate, durable PSPZ‐based solid‐state Zn/VO2 batteries are also successfully verified. This brand‐new concept of multiple‐kinetics‐enhanced polymer electrolyte design can provide a new perspective for developing all‐climate fast‐charging solid‐state batteries, including but not limited to zinc metal batteries. Abstract

Acute graft-versus-host disease (aGvHD) is a life-threatening complication typically occurring within 100 days after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT). This hypothesis-generating, phase II, prospective, open-label, randomized study (clinicaltrials gov. Identifier: NCT03339297) compared defibrotide added to standard-of-care (SOC) GvHD prophylaxis (defibrotide prophylaxis arm) versus SOC alone (SOC arm) to prevent aGvHD post-transplant. This study estimated incidences of aGvHD and was not statistically powered to assess differences among treatment arms. Patients were randomized 1:1 to defibrotide prophylaxis arm (n=79; median age 57 years; range, 2-69 years) or SOC arm (n=73; median age 56 years; range, 2-72 years). Patient demographics in the two arms were similar except for conditioning regimen type (myeloablative: defibrotide, 76% vs. SOC, 61%) and stem cell source for allo-HCT (bone marrow: defibrotide, 34% vs. SOC, 26%). In the intent-to-treat primary endpoint analysis, the cumulative incidence of grade B-D aGvHD at day 100 post-transplant was 38.4% in the defibrotide prophylaxis arm versus 47.1% in the SOC arm (difference: -8.8%, 90% confidence interval [CI]: -22.5 to 4.9). The difference noted at day 100 became more pronounced in a subgroup analysis of patients who received antithymocyte globulin (defibrotide: 30.4%, SOC: 47.6%; difference: -17.2%; 90% CI: -41.8 to 7.5). Overall survival rates at day 180 post-transplant were similar between arms, as were the rates of serious treatment-emergent adverse events (defibrotide: 42%, SOC: 44%). While the observed differences in endpoints between the two arms were not substantial, these results suggest defibrotide prophylaxis may add a benefit to currently available SOC to prevent aGvHD following allo-HCT without adding significant toxicities.

233. Built-In Electric Field Generated by the Piezoelectric Effect Facilitates a High Li+Diffusion Rate for Li-Ion Batteries

Abstract

Silicon (Si), which is a promising anode for lithium-ion batteries (LIBs), has attracted widespread concern on account of its high theoretical capacity. Unfortunately, the Si volume expansion during cycling leads to serious capacity fading, which greatly impedes the application prospect of Si electrodes. In this work, BaTiO3(BTO) was introduced to prepare one Si/BaTiO3@Carbon nanofiber material (Si/BTO@CNF). The volume expansion of Si inevitably induces the piezoelectric potential of BTO during cycling. Such a beneficial built-in electric field greatly facilitates the diffusion rate of LIBs. The assembled Si/BTO@CNF|Li asymmetric battery maintained a reversible capacity of 1428 mAh·g–1after 200 cycles at 500 mA·g–1. Meanwhile, the Li+diffusion rate and reaction kinetics were significantly improved. This in situ construction of a built-in electric field strategy based on BTO is expected to accelerate the practical application of high-performance Si-based LIBs.

235. Parallel Doubly Fed Symbol Timing Recovery Algorithm and FPGA Implementation for Burst Broadband Satellite Access

Abstract

Existing symbol timing recovery (STR) cannot simultaneously meet the performance requirements of broadband satellite internet for throughput, convergence speed, convergence accuracy, and implementation complexity. Focusing on burst single-carrier communications widely used in broadband satellite systems, we proposed a parallel doubly fed STR algorithm combining feedforward and feedback loop, in which the frequency-domain (FD) prefilter is also used to improve the algorithm’s anti-self-noise capability. The corresponding field programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation with low complexity and highly parallel architecture is then accomplished. Simulation results show that the performance degradation caused by the proposed algorithm is less than 0.03 dB compared with the ideal performance when uncoded bit error rate (BER) equals 1e-4 and 64 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) modulation is considered. FPGA verification based on the XC7VX690T chip also shows that with 64 parallel inputs and 64-QAM modulation, the throughput rate of information bit can reach 19.2 Gb/s for our design with utilization of 17% look-up tables (LUTs) and 20% digital signal processing (DSP), respectively.
