Abstract

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is characterized by the selective loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra and the accumulation of α-synuclein (α-Syn) aggregates. However, the molecular mechanisms regulating α-Syn aggregation and neuronal degeneration remain poorly understood. The peptidase M20 domain containing 1(PM20D1) gene lies within the PARK16locus genetically linked to PD. Single nucleotide polymorphisms regulating PM20D1expression are associated with changed risk of PD. Dopamine (DA) metabolism and DA metabolites have been reported to regulate α-Syn pathology. Here we report that PM20D1 catalyzes the conversion of DA to N-arachidonoyl dopamine (NADA), which interacts with α-Syn and inhibits its aggregation. Simultaneously, NADA competes with α-Syn fibrils to regulate TRPV4-mediated calcium influx and downstream phosphatases, thus alleviating α-Syn phosphorylation. The expression of PM20D1 decreases during aging. Overexpression of PM20D1 or the administration of NADA in a mouse model of synucleinopathy alleviated α-Syn pathology, dopaminergic neurodegeneration, and motor impairments. These observations support the protective effect of the PM20D1-NADA pathway against the progression of α-Syn pathology in PD.

Abstract

The copolymer of the mixed polyether modified polysiloxane was prepared by hydrogen-containing silicone oil and three types of allyl polyoxyethylene polyoxyel ether. The solution with xylene mass fraction of 20% was prepared and used for demulsification and dehydration of heavy oil in Bohai oilfield. Compared with the demulsifier in use on the platform, the color of the effluent was slightly worse when the self-made homemade demulsifier was used, but the dehydration speed was faster. When the demulsifier was used in 100 mL oil with water content of 10% and 60%, the dehydration volume in 40 minutes is not less than 8 mL and 53 mL, and the dehydration interface is smooth. The new demulsifier is expected to be used as a new demulsifier in Bohai heavy oil field, and worth further study. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

The present study numerically investigates the aerodynamic performance of the morphing airfoil and wing with leading edge (LE) and trailing edge (TE) parabolic flaps. Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) equations coupled with the Spalart-Allmaras (S-A) turbulence model are employed to simulate the flow fields. Firstly, the parameterization method for the morphing airfoil with LE and TE parabolic flaps is proposed. Secondly, the influence of several design parameters, namely, LE droop angle, LE droop position, TE deflection angle, and TE deflection position, on the airfoil aerodynamics are further explored. Moreover, the aspect ratio (AR) effect for the wing based on the morphing airfoil is also investigated. Simulation results demonstrate that the parabolic flaps outperform the articulated flaps in lift generation, drag reduction, and aerodynamic efficiency enhancement, with an improvement in CL and L/D by 39.2% and 108.4% at α=4° , respectively. A larger LE droop angle can increase the stall margin, whereas the LE droop position barely influences airfoil aerodynamics at small angles of attack. The increment of the TE deflection angle significantly augments the lift. As the TE deflection position moves downstream, the suction peaks at the LE and TE are decreased and flow separation is also delayed. Furthermore, a larger AR can achieve higher efficiency, whereas a smaller AR is more beneficial for flow separation suppression. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

Limited by the disadvantages of low theoretical capacity, sluggish lithium ion deintercalation kinetics as well as inferior energy density, traditional graphite anode material has failed to meet the ever-increasing specific energy demand for lithium-ion battery technologies. Therefore, constructing high-efficiency and stable anodes is of great significance for the practical application of lithium-ion batteries. In response, graphene-based composite anodes have recently achieved much-enhanced electrochemical performance due to their unique two-dimensional cellular lattice structure, excellent electrical conductivity, high specific surface area and superior physicochemical stability. In this review, we start with the geometric and electronic properties of graphene, and then summarize the recent progresses of graphene preparation in terms of both methods and characteristics. Subsequently, we focus on the applications of various graphene based lithium-ion battery anodes and their inherent structure-activity relationships. Finally, the challenges and advisory guidelines for graphene composites are discussed. This review aims to provide a fresh perspective on structure optimization and performance modulation of graphene-based composites as lithium-ion battery anodes.
