216. Quantum Digital Signatures with Random Pairing

Abstract

Digital signatures can guarantee the unforgeability and transferability of the message. Different from classical digital signatures, whose security depends on computational complexity, quantum digital signatures (QDS) can provide information-theoretic security. We propose a general method of random pairing QDS (RP-QDS), which can drastically improve QDS efficiency. In a way, our random pairing method provide a tightened result of security level of QDS. In the method, the parity value of each pair is used for the outcome bit value. We present general formulas for fraction of untagged bits and error rates of the outcome bits. Random pairing can be applied as a fundamental method to improve the QDS efficiency for all existing quantum key distribution (QKD) protocols. We take sending-or-not-sending (SNS) QDS and side-channel-free (SCF) QDS as examples to demonstrate the advantage of random pairing through numerical simulation. Similar advantage with random pairing is also founded with decoy-state MDIQKD and also decoy-state BB84 protocol. We study the RP-SNS-QDS with finite data size through novel optimization. The numerical simulation results show that the signature rate can be increased by more than 100% under noisy channel using our random pairing method.

217. Solar system constraints of a polymer black hole in loop quantum gravity

Abstract

A new polymer black hole solution in loop quantum gravity was proposed recently. The difference between the polymer black hole and Schwarzschild black hole is captured by a quantum parameter $A$. In order to get the constraints on parameter $A$, we consider the observational constraints imposed on $A$ by using the Solar System experiments and calculate the deflection of light, Shapiro time delay, perihelion precession and obtain the effects associated with parameter $A$. Moreover, the parameterized post-Newtonian approach of this loop quantum gravity black hole was also carried out. It turns out the tightest constraint on $A$ can be improved to $0

Abstract

The coherent oscillation of ultralight dark matter in the mass regime around $10^{-23}$ eV induces changes in gravitational potential with the frequency in the nanohertz range. This effect is known to produce a monochromatic signal in the pulsar timing residuals. Here we discuss a multifield scenario that produces a wide spectrum of frequencies, such that the ultralight particle oscillation can mimic the pulsar timing signal of stochastic common spectrum process. We discuss how ultralight dark matter with various spins produces such a wide band spectrum on pulsar timing residuals and perform the Bayesian analysis to constrain the parameters. Abstract

The DArk Matter Particle Explorer (DAMPE) is well suitable for searching for monochromatic and sharp $\gamma$-ray structures in the GeV$-$TeV range thanks to its unprecedented high energy resolution. In this work, we search for $\gamma$-ray line structures using five years of DAMPE data. To improve the sensitivity, we develop two types of dedicated data sets (including the BgoOnly data which is the first time to be used in the data analysis for the calorimeter-based gamma-ray observatories) and adopt the signal-to-noise ratio optimized regions of interest (ROIs) for different DM density profiles. No line signals or candidates are found between 10 and 300 GeV in the Galaxy. The constraints on the velocity-averaged cross section for $\chi\chi \to \gamma\gamma$ and the decay lifetime for $\chi \to \gamma\nu$, both at 95% confidence level, have been calculated and the systematic uncertainties have been taken into account. Comparing to the previous Fermi-LAT results, though DAMPE has an acceptance smaller by a factor of $\sim 10$, similar constraints on the DM parameters are achieved and below 100 GeV the lower limits on the decay lifetime are even stronger by a factor of a few. Abstract

The elasticities of double-stranded (ds) DNA and RNA, which are critical to their biological functions and applications in materials science, can be significantly modulated by solution conditions such as ions and temperature. However, there is still a lack of a comprehensive understanding of the role of solvents in the elasticities of dsRNA and dsDNA in a comparative way. In this work, we explored the effect of ethanol solvent on the elasticities of dsRNA and dsDNA by magnetic tweezers and all-atom molecular dynamics simulations. We found that the bending persistence lengths and contour lengths of dsRNA and dsDNA decrease monotonically with the increase in ethanol concentration. Furthermore, the addition of ethanol weakens the positive twist–stretch coupling of dsRNA, while promotes the negative twist–stretch coupling of dsDNA. Counter-intuitively, the lower dielectric environment of ethanol causes a significant re-distribution of counterions and enhanced ion neutralization, which overwhelms the enhanced repulsion along dsRNA/dsDNA, ultimately leading to the softening in bending for dsRNA and dsDNA. Moreover, for dsRNA, ethanol causes slight ion-clamping across the major groove, which weakens the major groove-mediated twist–stretch coupling, while for dsDNA, ethanol promotes the stretch–radius correlation due to enhanced ion binding and consequently enhances the helical radius-mediated twist–stretch coupling. 225. A Weyl-$\mathrm{Z}_2$ semimetal from holography

Abstract

We present effective field theories for the weakly coupled Weyl-$\mathrm{Z}_2$ semimetal, as well as the holographic realization for the strongly coupled case. In both cases, the anomalous systems have both the chiral anomaly and the $\mathrm{Z}_2$ anomaly and possess topological quantum phase transitions from the Weyl-$\mathrm{Z}_2$ semimetal phases to partly or fully topological trivial phases. We find that the topological phase transition is characterized by the anomalous transport parameters, i.e. the anomalous Hall conductivity and the $\mathrm{Z}_2$ anomalous Hall conductivity. These two parameters are nonzero at the Weyl-$\mathrm{Z}_2$ semimetal phase and vanish at the topologically trivial phases. In the holographic case, the different behavior between the two anomalous transport coefficients is discussed.
