The purpose of this study was to analyze tear cytokine and complement levels in patients diagnosed with acute ocular graft-versus-host disease (oGVHD) and examine the consistency of these levels with the severity of clinical manifestations.Ten patients with acute oGVHD (20 eyes) were enrolled for the assessment of tear cytokine levels and ocular surface parameters, and 18 healthy people (36 eyes) were selected as the control group. The tear cytokine and complement levels were measured using microsphere-based immunoassay analysis.The main clinical manifestations of acute oGVHD include eye redness, a large amount of purulent exudate, eye pain, and even false membranes. The levels of intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1, interleukin 6 (IL-6), interleukin 1 beta (IL-1β), interleukin 8, epidermal growth factor (EGF), interleukin 7 (IL-7), B-cell activating factor, granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), and complement in patients with acute oGVHD showed significant differences compared with those in normal people. Furthermore, the levels of IL-6, IL-1β, EGF, GM-CSF, IL-7, and C3a showed a stronger correlation with ocular surface parameters.Our study was the first to enroll patients with acute oGVHD to assess tear cytokine levels as a method contributing to the diagnosis of acute oGVHD. In addition, it has been demonstrated that certain tear cytokines, including intercellular cell adhesion molecule-1, IL-6, IL-1β, interleukin 8, B-cell activating factor, GM-CSF, IL-7, EGF, and complement, may be new diagnostic biomarkers for acute oGVHD.

Many believe that blood pressure management during cardiac surgery is associated with postoperative outcomes. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs) to determine the impact of high compared with low intraoperative blood pressure targets on postoperative morbidity and mortality in adults undergoing cardiac surgery on cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB). Our primary objective was to inform the design of a future large RCT.We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, Web of Science, CINAHL, and CENTRAL for RCTs comparing high with low intraoperative blood pressure targets in adult patients undergoing any cardiac surgical procedure on CPB. We screened reference lists, grey literature, and conference proceedings.We included eight RCTs (N =1,116 participants); all examined the effect of blood pressure management only during the CPB. Trial definitions of high compared with low blood pressure varied and, in some, there was a discrepancy between the target and achieved mean arterial pressure. We observed no difference in delirium, cognitive decline, stroke, acute kidney injury, or mortality between high and low blood pressure targets (very-low to low quality evidence). Higher blood pressure targets may have increased the risk of requiring a blood transfusion (three trials; n = 456 participants; relative risk, 1.4; 95% confidence interval, 1.1 to 1.9; P = 0.01; moderate quality evidence) but this finding was based on a small number of trials.Individual trial definitions of high and low blood pressure targets varied, limiting inferences. The effect of high (compared with low) blood pressure targets on other morbidity and mortality after cardiac surgery remains unclear because of limitations with the body of existing evidence. Electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution is an efficient and economical technology to address environmental contamination and energy crises, but the development of such a sustainable hydrogen production system with high-efficiency and energy-saving remains a great challenge. Here, we present a novel strategy to design a self-driven dual hydrogen production system for efficient hydrogen production based on highly dispersed Rh single atoms supported on oxygen-functionalized Ti3C2Ox MXene (Rh-SA/Ti3C2Ox) catalyst. The bifunctional Rh-SA/Ti3C2Ox catalyst exhibited remarkable catalytic activities towards both pH-universal hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) and hydrazine oxidation reaction (HzOR). Using Rh-SA/Ti3C2Ox as the electrode in the self-driven dual hydrogen production system by combing the Zn-H2 battery and overall hydrazine splitting units, an ultra-high H2 generation rate of 45.77 mmol h−1 can be achieved. Density functional theory calculations indicate that the atomically dispersed Rh single atoms can not only make the free energy of adsorbed H (ΔG*H) more thermoneutral for HER but also largely decrease the free-energy barrier of the dehydrogenation of adsorbed NHNH2 for HzOR.

Paraphlomis yingdeensis (Lamiaceae), a new species from the limestone area in northern Guangdong Province, China, is described and illustrated. Phylogenetic analyses, based on two nuclear DNA regions (ITS and ETS) and three plastid DNA regions (rpl32-trnL, rps16 and trnL-trnF), suggest that P. yingdeensis represents a distinct species in Paraphlomis. Morphologically, P. yingdeensis is similar to P. foliata subsp. montigena and P. nana, but can be distinguished from the former by its densely villous lamina and calyx, not decurrent base of lamina and bristle-like-acuminate apex of calyx teeth, and distinguished from the latter by its significantly taller plant (15–20 cm vs. 1–5 cm) and larger lamina (6.2–16.5 × 4–11.5 vs. 2–7 × 1.5–4 cm), densely villous stem, lamina and calyx and yellow corolla.

We previously reported that microRNA (miR)23a and miR30b are selectively sorted into rickettsia-infected, endothelial cell-derived exosomes (R-ECExos). Yet, the mechanism remains unknown. The number of cases of spotted fever rickettsioses has been increasing in recent years, and infections with these bacteria cause life-threatening diseases by targeting brain and lung tissues. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to continue to dissect the molecular mechanism underlyingR-ECExos-induced barrier dysfunction of normal recipient microvascular endothelial cells (MECs), depending on their exosomal RNA cargos. Rickettsiae are transmitted to human hosts by the bite of an infected tick into the skin. In the present study we demonstrate that treatment withR-ECExos, which were derived from spotted fever groupR parkeriinfected human dermal MECs, induced disruptions of the paracellular adherens junctional protein VE-cadherin and breached the paracellular barrier function in recipient pulmonary MECs (PMECs) in an exosomal RNA-dependent manner. Similarly, we did not detect different levels of miRs in parent dermal MECs following rickettsial infections. However, we demonstrated that the microvasculopathy-relevant miR23a-27a-24 cluster and miR30b are selectively enriched inR-ECExos. Bioinformatic analysis revealed that common sequence motifs are shared exclusively among the exosomal, selectively-enriched miR23a cluster and miR30b at different levels. Taken together, these data warrant further functional identification and characterization of a single, bipartition, or tripartition among ACA, UCA, and CAG motifs that guide recognition of microvasculopathy-relevant miR23a-27a-24 and miR30b, and subsequently results in their selective enrichments inR-ECExos.

Liquid crystalline physical gels (LCPGs) have attracted increasing interest because of their mechanical properties and stimulus-response behaviors. However, due to their gelator properties such as thermal stability, gelation capability, and compatibility in liquid crystals, development of LCPGs with high performances still remains a huge challenging task. Herein, four novel gelators ((l)-PH, (d)-PH, (l)-P2H, and (d)-P2H) based on 1,4-benzenedicarboxamide phenylalanine derivatives containing one or two ethylene glycol groups have been designed and synthesized. It is found that the ethylene glycol group plays a significant role in improving the compatibility between the gelator and the liquid crystal. — Populations of Balanophora from southern China are often identified by local botanists as B. laxiflora based on their long cylindric male inflorescence, subsessile male flowers with slender rudimentary bracts, and subdiscoid synandria. In this study, we clarify the identity of seven such populations based on morphological characters and phylogenetic analysis using nuclear 18S and ITS ribosomal DNA sequences. We confirmed the occurrence of dioecious populations of B. yakushimensis and two previously unrecognized species, which we describe here as B. parajaponica and B. appressa. Phylogenetic analyses indicated that B. parajaponica, B. yakushimensis, B. appressa, B. laxiflora, and the agamospermic B. japonica, formed a well resolved clade, viz. the B. laxiflora clade. The four dioecious species, although highly similar in the morphology of male inflorescence and flowers, can be separated by leaf morphology and arrangement, ovary color, and arrangement of female flowers. The species limit of B. laxiflora, however, remains unresolved.

The diversity of Asian horned toads is considered highly underestimated and to contain a large number of undescribed cryptic species. In this work, we describe three new species of Boulenophrys from south China, namely, Boulenophrys yaoshanensis sp. nov. from central Guangxi, Boulenophrys yingdeensis sp. nov. from northern Guangdong, and Boulenophrys yunkaiensis sp. nov. from western Guangdong. These three new species can be distinguished from all recognized congeners by a combination of morphological characteristics and significant genetic divergences. These descriptions increase the number of recognized species of Boulenophrys to 61. In addition, an updated checklist of the Asian horned toads of the subfamily Megophryinae is provided in this study.

Objectives A specific and sensitive automated chemiluminescent immunoassay (CLIA) was developed to detect neutralizing antibody (NAb) levels. This assay can be used for the diagnosis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, treatment and vaccine evaluation. Methods The SARS-CoV-2 receptor-binding domain (RBD) and a stabilized version of the spike ectodomain as antigens were detected by CLIA. Sera NAb titers and concentrations from 860 SARS-CoV-2 vaccinees, 232 SARS-CoV-2 convalescent patients and 675 healthy individuals were tested by microneutralization test (MNT) and CLIA, respectively. Mathematical models were established to evaluate the relationship between two variables in different groups. Conclusions With the RBD-based CLIA protocol, CLIA can be used to replace MNT to test SARS-CoV-2 NAb. Vaccine effectiveness, protectiveness and durability can be evaluated effectively by mathematical models. It is Results Analysing the relationship between NAb titers and concentrations, R2 for the decision-making tree was 0.870 and that of progressive linear fitting was 0.821. The receiver operating characteristic curve indicated specificity of 78.1%, sensitivity of 87.4%, cut-off value of 6.43 AU/mL and borderline range of 5.79–7.07 AU/mL for CLIA. Three-quarters (75.4%) of vaccinees were found to be NAb positive, and 5.35% vaccinees had NAb protective capability. Background Hypoxia is a major contributor to global kidney diseases. Targeting hypoxia is a promising therapeutic option against both acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease; however, an effective strategy that can achieve simultaneous targeted kidney hypoxia imaging and therapy has yet to be established. Herein, we fabricated a unique nano-sized hypoxia-sensitive coassembly (Pc/C5A@EVs) via molecular recognition and self-assembly, which is composed of the macrocyclic amphiphile C5A, the commercial dye sulfonated aluminum phthalocyanine (Pc) and mesenchymal stem cell-excreted extracellular vesicles (MSC-EVs). Results In murine models of unilateral or bilateral ischemia/reperfusion injury, MSC-EVs protected the Pc/C5A complex from immune metabolism, prolonged the circulation time of the complex, and specifically led Pc/C5A to hypoxic kidneys via surface integrin receptor α4β1 and αLβ2, where Pc/C5A released the near-infrared fluorescence of Pc and achieved enhanced hypoxia-sensitive imaging. Meanwhile, the coassembly significantly recovered kidney function by attenuating cell apoptosis, inhibiting the progression of renal fibrosis and reducing tubulointerstitial inflammation. Mechanistically, the Pc/C5A coassembly induced M1-to-M2 macrophage transition by inhibiting the HIF-1α expression in hypoxic renal tubular epithelial cells (TECs) and downstream NF-κB signaling pathway to exert their regenerative effects. Conclusion This synergetic nanoscale coassembly with great translational potential provides a novel strategy for precise kidney hypoxia diagnosis and efficient kidney injury treatment. Furthermore, our strategy of coassembling exogenous macrocyclic receptors with endogenous cell-derived membranous structures may offer a functional platform to address multiple clinical needs. CD8+CD103+ tissue-resident memory T cells (TRMs) are involved in tumor immune response and linked to favorable clinical outcome in human cancer. However, the distribution, phenotype, functional properties and clinical relevance of these cells in gastric cancer (GC) remain elusive. Here, our data show that, in comparison to non-tumor tissues, the percentages of CD8+CD103+ TRMs in tumors are significantly decreased. Most tumor-infiltrating CD8+CD103+ TRMs are CD45RA−CCR7− effector-memory cells with higher PD-1 and 4-1BB expression than those from non-tumor tissues. Further, tumor-infiltrating CD8+CD103+ TRMs show impaired cytolytic capacity due to decreased granzyme B and perforin expression. Moreover, ex vivo PD-1 blockade could restore the cytolytic capacity of tumor-infiltrating CD8+CD103+ TRMs, and such anti-PD-1-mediated reinvigoration of CD8+CD103+ TRMs could be further enhanced by 4-1BB co-stimulation. Finally, lower levels of Tumor-infiltrating CD8+CD103+ TRMs are positively correlated with GC progression and poor patients’ survival. Our data suggest that restoring CD8+CD103+ TRM function by combining PD-1 blockade and 4-1BB co-stimulation may be a promising strategy for treating GC.

Vapor deposition of perovskite solar cells (PSCs) has attracted considerable interest for its dry processing characteristics. However, a two-step sequential vapor deposition method suffers from ineffective conversion of PbI2 to perovskite with reasons still unclear. In this report, we carefully investigated the crystallization orientation of PbI2 films deposited by physical vapor deposition via synchrotron grazing-incidence wide-angle X-ray scattering (GIWAXS) and observed an asymmetric scattering pattern with respect to the qz-axis. The observed oriented morphology and texture hinder the diffusion of MAI molecules in the PbI2 films synthesized by vapor deposition, resulting in over 15% PbI2 remaining at the buried interface after reaction with MAI vapor. As a result, the MAPbI3 synthesized in this way was also highly oriented, especially in the surface layers. Surface fumigation (SF) step was introduced to decrease the orientational anisotropy of PbI2, which successfully breaks the diffusion barriers of MAI molecules by forming a complex layer on the PbI2 surface with polar solvent vapors, like dimethyl sulfoxide or 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone. We infer that the SF treatment changes the vapor-solid reaction mechanism from reaction-crystallization to dissolution-recrystallization, which largely promotes the conversion of PbI2 to perovskite. Defects were reduced in perovskite synthesized in this way, and a p-i-n device with 19.56% efficiency was fabricated, which is among the highest efficiencies reported for sequential-vapor-deposited PSCs. Notably, this method enables the fabrication of conformal perovskite layers on uneven substrates. An exemplary PSC showing efficiency of 8.93% was fabricated on a precurved substrate. We believe that the method is applicable to the fabrication of tandem or curved PSCs that are compatible with wearable or building/autocar-integrated photovoltaics in the future.

In this paper, the first principle method based on density functional theory is adopted to establish the interface model of WC/WC-Co through the software Materials Studio (MS). On the basis of this interface structure, rare earth element Y is doped, and then the energy of WC/WC-Co before and after doping is calculated respectively. The electronic structure is analyzed, and the calculation results of the two structures are compared. Finally, the grain growth is simulated by cellular automata of matlab to verify our calculation and analysis results. The results show that the interfacial adhesion work increases and the interface structure is more stable after doping Y element. The interface energy decreases and plays a role in grain refinement.

Lignin degradation represents a significant challenge in biological valorization, but it is suffering from insufficiency, putting barriers to efficient lignin conversion. Herein, the study first develops a highly efficient laccase secretion apparatus, enabling high enzyme activity of 184 U/mL, complementing the biochemical limits on lignin depolymerization well in Halomonas sp. Y3. Further engineering of PHA biosynthesis produces a significantly high PHA titer of 286, 742, and 868 mg/L from alkaline lignin, catechol, and protocatechuate, respectively. The integration of laccase-secretion and PHA production modules enables a record titer of 693 and 1209 mg/L in converting lignin and lignin-containing stream to PHA, respectively. The titer is improved furtherly to 740 and 1314 mg/L by developing a non-sterilized fermentation. This study advances a cheaper and greener production of valuable chemicals from lignin by constructing a biosynthetic platform for PHA production and provides novel insight into the lignin conversion by extremophilic microbes.

Neutrophil elastase (NE) is an important regulator of immune response and is widely regarded as a biomarker for inflammatory diseases. To date, all the NE probe is designed by linking pentafluoropropionyl and amino-containing fluorophores through amide bond. This method is limited by the fluorophores, which must contain amino functional groups. To overcome this problem, we use the self-immolative group to convert hydroxyl groups to fluorophores HFC (4-trifluoromethyl-7-hydroxyl coumarin) into amino groups, and to connect recognition groups (pentafluoropropionyl) to construct a novel NE fluorescent probe HFC-NE. Predictably, HFC-NE can detect NE activity selectively and sensitively with many advantages, such as good water solubility and biocompatibility, high fluorescence enhancement and high affinity. Besides, HFC-NE is successfully applied to real-time and specific detection of NE activity in living cells and zebrafish models. These excellent outcomes confirmed that this strategy based on self-immolative group is a useful method to design more NE fluorescent probes.

Manufacturing cost is a major concern for electrochromic device (ECD) applications in smart windows for energy saving and low-carbon economy. Fully printing instead of a vacuum-based chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process is favored for large-scale fabrication of ECDs. To adapt to the screen printing process, a UV curable solid-state electrolyte based on lithium bis(trifluoromethane-sulfonyl) imide (LiTFSI) was specially formulated. It contains poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate (PEG-DA), LiTFSI, water, and ethyl acetate. The optimized ECDs have achieved a 0.6 s bleaching time at 0.6 V and a 1.4 s coloring time at -0.5 V. The ECDs also exhibited excellent stability, which could endure 100 000 cycles of color switching while still maintaining 35% of transmittance change at a 550 nm wavelength. A demo ECD has been fabricated with a screen printed electrolyte, exhibiting stable switching between the clear state and patterned color state.

Reliable battery model and identified model parameter are the preconditions for Power battery state estimation with high precision. Aiming at the disadvantage of existing integer order impedance modeling in characterizing the dynamic characteristics of Lithium-ion ferrous phosphate (LFP) batteries, a simplified fractional order (FO) impedance model including constant phase element and Warburg element is proposed based on the analysis of simplified electrochemical impedance spectroscopy curve. With the Grunwald–Letnikov definition based factional order numerical calculation, the FO Kalman filter (FO-KF) method based on the derived model is designed to identify the FO impedance model parameter and terminal voltage. The proposed FO impedance model can better represent the nonlinear dynamic performances of LFP batteries, and the Grunwald–Letnikov definition based FO-KF algorithm can maintain good accuracy in the numerical calculation of FO parameter identification. The experimental validation results show that the combination of simplified FO impedance model and FO-KF method can improve the modeling precision and parameter identification performance compared with the common integer order impedance model under two different test conditions.

Central Asia (CA) is among the most vulnerable regions to climate change due to the fragile ecosystems, frequent natural hazards, strained water resources, and accelerated glacier melting, which underscores the need to achieve robust projection of regional climate change. In this study, we applied three bias-corrected global climate models (GCMs) to conduct 9 km-resolution regional climate simulations in CA for the reference (1986–2005) and future (2031–2050) periods. The regional climate model (RCM) and GCM simulated daily temperature and precipitation are evaluated and the results show that both the bias-correction technique and dynamical downscaling method obtain numerous added values in reproducing the historical climate in CA, respect to the original GCMs. The former contributes more to reducing the biases of the climatology and the latter contributes more to capturing the spatial pattern. The RCM simulations indicate significant warming over CA in the near-term future, with the regional mean increase of annual mean temperature in a range of 1.63–2.01 ℃, relative to the reference period. Pronounced warming is detected north of ~ 45° N in CA from autumn to spring, which can be explained by the snow-albedo feedback. Enhanced warming projected in many mountains in the world is not found in CA, which is consistent with the study based on the reanalysis datasets during the past. Heatwave day frequency, number and maximum duration are expected to become more severe by 2031–2050. Changes in precipitation and Standard Precipitation Index (SPI) shows a wetter condition in CA in the coming decades. However, a fairer assessment of the wet/dry change with Standard Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI) which takes into account of both precipitation and potential evapotranspiration reveals a drier condition. The climate change projections presented here serve as a robust scientific basis for assessment of future risk from climate change in CA.

Photo-responsive cholesteric liquid crystals (CLCs) have attracted much attention in recent years due to their wide applications in filters, tunable optical lasers, dynamic display devices, etc. However, UV light is usually used as the external stimulus source, which is not environment-friendly enough. On the other hand, the mechanical properties of CLCs are not strong enough for these practical applications. Therefore, it still remains a challenge to endow the CLCs with visible light response and high mechanical properties at the same time. Herein, an axially chiral tetra-fluorinated binaphthyl azobenzene gelator ( S-4F-AG ) is synthesized. Upon 550 and 450 nm light irradiations, S-4F-AG exhibits excellent photo-switchable behaviors. Notably, the maximum content of cis-isomer and its half-life are as high as 35% and 89 h in acetonitrile, respectively. A self-supporting CLC physical gel with a storage modulus around 104 Pa can be obtained when 3wt% S-4F-AG and 12wt% binaphthyl azobenzene derivative (dopant 2 ) are co-doped into a nematic LC host P0616A. This CLC physical gel exhibits a temperature-driven blue, green, and red reflection colors reversibly. Importantly, such three primary RGB colors can also be realized by adjusting the exposure time of 550 nm green light. This work lays a solid foundation for the applications ranging from information storage to high-tech anticounterfeit.

We compared short-term perioperative outcomes after single-incision plus one-port laparoscopic gastrectomy (SILG+1) and conventional multi-port laparoscopy-assisted gastrectomy (C-LAG) for gastric cancer. The work was conducted between August 2017 and October 2019. A total of 90 patients with early or advanced gastric cancer were retrospectively analyzed: 43 patients of which underwent SILG+1, and 47 of which underwent C-LAG, respectively. These were divided into two groups: the total gastrectomy group (SILT+1 and C-LATG) and the distal gastrectomy group (SILD + 1 and C-LADG). The demographics, tumor characteristics, postoperative outcomes, and short-term complications of all enrolled patients were summarized and statistically analyzed. Background: COVID-19–related acute illness is associated with an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Objective: These evidence-based guidelines from the American Society of Hematology (ASH) are intended to support patients, clinicians, and other health care professionals in making decisions about the use of anticoagulation in patients with COVID-19. Methods: ASH formed a multidisciplinary guideline panel that included patient representatives and applied strategies to minimize potential bias from conflicts of interest. The McMaster University GRADE Centre supported the guideline development process and performed systematic evidence reviews (through November 2021). The panel prioritized clinical questions and outcomes according to their importance for clinicians and patients. The panel used the Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) approach to assess evidence and make recommendations, which were subject to public comment. This is an update to guidelines published in February 2021 as part of the living phase of these guidelines. Results: The panel made one additional recommendation. The panel issued a conditional recommendation in favor of therapeutic-intensity over prophylactic-intensity anticoagulation in patients with COVID-19–related acute illness who do not have suspected or confirmed VTE. The panel emphasized the need for an individualized assessment of risk of thrombosis and bleeding. The panel also noted that heparin (unfractionated or low molecular weight) may be preferred because of a preponderance of evidence with this class of anticoagulants. Conclusion: This conditional recommendation was based on very low certainty in the evidence, underscoring the need for additional, high-quality, randomized controlled trials comparing different intensities of anticoagulation in patients with COVID-19–related acute illness.

Tyrosinase is widely regarded as an important biomarker for melanocytic and liver cancer. However, most currently reported tyrosinase probes have been focused on malignant melanoma study, and few tyrosinase probe have been applied for liver cancer investigation. Herein, we developed a novel probe HFC-TYR for sensitive and selective tracking of tyrosinase activity at enzyme and cellular level, and investigated its application for liver cancer diagnosis. As expected, HFC-TYR has excellent response ability for tyrosinase sensing at enzyme level, such as large Stokes shift (170 nm), high fluorescence enhancement (178-fold), low detection limit (0.12 U/mL), which indicates its potential for efficient identification of endogenous tyrosinase activity at cellular levels. Unsurprisingly, HFC-TYR is proved to be able detect endogenous tyrosinase levels in various living cells. More importantly, HFC-TYR is successfully used to distinguish HepG2 cells from other cells (SKOV3, HeLa and 293T), indicating that tyrosinase is overexpressed in HepG2 cells and HFC-TYR can specifically identify HepG2 cells at cellular level. Meanwhile, HFC-TYR is able to further monitor the endogenous tyrosinase activity in zebrafish models. Therefore, all the findings confirm that HFC-TYR has the application potential of liver cancer diagnosis.

Lignin-derived compounds (LDCs) biological funneling for polyhydroxyalkanoate (PHA) synthesis has been attractive but elusive. Herein, the Halomonas sp. Y3 is isolated and developed for PHA production from LDCs. Of the tested 13 LDCs, 4-hydroxybenzoic acid (4-HBA), protocatechuate (PA), catechol (CAT), and vanillic acid (VA) exhibit a hyper-degradation and production with 87.2 %, 85.8 %, 84.7 %, and 83.4 % TOC removal rate and 535.2 mg/L, 506.5 mg/L, 435.6 mg/L, and 440.8 mg/L PHA concentration, respectively. The Halomonas sp. Y3 genome is sequenced by identifying numerous genes responsible for LDCs funneling, stress response, and PHA biosynthesis. An open unsterilized fermentation with optimal conditions of pH 9.0 and NaCl 60 g/L is investigated, achieving a completely aseptic effect and significantly improved PHA production from LDCs. Overall, the results indicate that the Halomonas sp. Y3 is an ideal candidate for LDC bioconversion and exhibits a great potential to realize black liquor valorization.

Background Rectal cancer (RC) is one of the most common malignant tumors. Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of cell death, which plays an important role in various cancers. However, the correlation between ferroptosis-related genes (FRGs) and prognosis in RC remains unclear. Methods Gene expression data from The Cancer Genome Atlas Rectum adenocarcinoma (TCGA-READ) and GSE87211 were downloaded. Clustering and functional enrichment were evaluated. A FRGs risk score was established based on the univariate Cox analysis and the Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) analysis. K-M analysis and ROC analysis were conducted to determine prognostic values. qRT-PCR was performed to validate levels of mRNA expression. Multivariate Cox analysis was used to build a prognostic prediction model based on the risk score. Results Based on FRGs, RC patients were grouped into two clusters. In the functional enrichment of differentially expressed genes between the two clusters, immune-related pathways dominated. A novel FRGs signature with 14 genes related to the overall survival (OS) of RC was established. qRT-PCR of the 14 genes identified TP63, ISCU, PLIN4, MAP3K5, OXSR, FANCD2 and ATM were overexpressed in RC tissue; HSPB1, MAPK1, ABCC1, PANX1, MAPK9 and ATG7 were underexpressed; TUBE1 had no difference. The high-risk group had a significantly lower OS than the low-risk group (P < 0.001), and ROC curve analysis confirmed the signature’s predictive capacity. Multivariate analysis demonstrated that the risk score and age were independent prognostic factors. Conclusion A novel FRGs model can be used to predict the prognosis in RC, as well as to guide individual treatment.
