205. Influence of saturation level on the acoustic emission characteristics of gas hydrate-bearing coal

Abstract

Abstract To study the effects of gas hydrates on the prevention and control of coal and gas protrusions, this paper reports the results of acoustic emission experiments on coal bodies containing gas hydrates with different saturation levels. The results showed that few acoustic emission events were generated in the elasticity stages of coal bodies containing gas hydrates, and the first sudden increase in the number of ringing counts generally occurred before and after the yielding point. Additionally, the acoustic emission events in the yielding stage were more active, and the cumulative number of ringing counts increased faster. The peak ringing counts appeared around the damage point, and a small number of acoustic emission events were still generated after destruction of the coal samples. The cumulative ringing counts decreased linearly with increasing saturation. The effect of saturation on the cumulative ringing counts in the elasticity stage of the gas hydrate-containing coal samples was small, but the difference between the cumulative ringing counts in the yielding stage and those in the destruction stage was larger. The total cumulative ringing counts and the cumulative ringing counts during each stage for the gas hydrate-containing coal samples decreased with increasing enclosure pressure. The energy and amplitude of the loading process were consistent with the trend for the ringing counts. The acoustic emission ringing counts of gas-containing coals were greater than those of gas hydrate-containing coals in the yielding and destructing stages.

Abstract

Abstract Kagome superconductors AV3Sb5 (A = K, Rb and Cs) have attracted much recent attention due to the coexistence of multiple exotic orders. Among them, the charge density wave (CDW) order has been shown to host various unconventional behaviors. Here, we investigate the CDW order by a combination of both bulk and surface doping methods. While element substitutions in bulk doping change both carriers and the crystal lattice, the surface doping primarily tunes the carrier concentration. As such, our results reveal a two-dimensional phase diagram of the CDW in doped CsV3Sb5. In the lightly bulk doped regime, the existence of CDW order is reversible by tuning the carrier concentration. But excessive bulk doping permanently destroys the CDW, regardless of the carrier doping level. These results provide insights to the origin of the CDW from both electronic and structural degrees of freedom. They also open an avenue for manipulating the exotic CDW order in Kagome superconductors.

Abstract

The high proportion of renewable energy and power electronic equipment is emerging as a significant trend and key characteristic of the power system development driven by the dual promotion of the energy transformation and scientific technological advancement. Major modifications have been made to the dynamic behavior of the new power system. The traditional small signal stability analysis approach is difficult to apply, and there are still urgent issues to be resolved for the quick change of operating conditions. In this paper, a Lyapunov direct analysis method of gradient dynamic deviation based on phasor measurement unit (PMU) data is proposed to analyze the small signal stability of the new power system. First, the PMU data matrix is used to reduce the dimension to obtain the low dimension matrix, which is substituted into the power system matrix model with a doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG). The diagonal matrix is obtained by solving the Lyapunov equation, and the positive definiteness of the matrix is determined to judge the system stability. Then, the dynamic deviation of corresponding state variable is calculated by solving the obtained diagonal matrix. The gradient descent method is applied to the corresponding state variable curve to iterate the extreme point value of curve. The time-weighted dynamic deviation of the whole oscillation process is calculated by time weighting, which provides guidance for the subsequent configuration position of damping stability controller, i.e., power system stabilizer (PSS). The method can improve the small interference stability of the system. The effectiveness of the fast stability analysis of the new power system is verified by simulations of the new England 10-machine 39-bus system with DFIG.

Abstract

The MQXFA Quadrupole magnets will be installed in High Luminosity LHC to form the Q1 and Q3 inner triplet optical elements in front of the interaction points 1 (ATLAS) and 5 (CMS). A pair of MQXFA units is assembled in a stainless steel helium vessel, including the end domes, to make the Q1 Cold Mass or the Q3 Cold Mass. The US HL LHC Accelerator Upgrade Project* is responsible for the design, manufacturing and test of the Q1/Q3 Cold Masses and the complete MQXFA magnets. CERN provides the cryostat components and is responsible for integration and installation in HL LHC. The MQXFA quadrupoles have 150 mm aperture, 4.2 m magnetic length, nominal gradient of 132.2 T/m, and coil peak field of 11.3 T. They use Nb_3Sn conductor and a support structure made of segmented aluminum shells pre-loaded by using bladders and keys. Abstract

In present work an experiment has been designed to measure the Rayleigh ratio directly at $405$ nm and $432$ nm for linear alkylbenzene which is a common solvent used in liquid scintillator detectors of neutrino experiments. The perpendicularly polarized Rayleigh ratio is determined to be $(4.52\pm 0.28)\times 10^{-6}$ m$^{-1}\cdot$ sr$^{-1}$ at $405$ nm and $(3.82\pm 0.24)\times 10^{-6}$ m$^{-1}\cdot$ sr$^{-1}$ at $432$ nm, and the corresponding Rayleigh scattering length is $L_{Ray} = 22.9\pm 0.3(\mathrm{stat.})\pm 1.7(\mathrm{sys.})$ m at $405$ nm and $L_{Ray}= 27.0\pm 0.9(\mathrm{stat.})\pm 1.8(\mathrm{sys.})$ m at $432$ nm., Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures

Abstract

A new Monte Carlo method has been implemented to describe the angular and polarization distributions of anisotropic liquids, like water and linear alkylbenzene, by considering orientational fluctuations of polarizability tensors. The scattered light of anisotropic liquids is depolarized with an angular distribution of $1+(1-\rho_v)/(1+3\rho_v)\cos^2\theta$, which is modified by the depolarization ratio $\rho_v$. A standalone experiment has validated the simulation results of LAB. The new method can provide more accurate knowledge on light propagation in large liquid detectors, which is beneficial to the developments of reconstruction for detectors., Comment: 13 pages, 5 figures

Abstract

This paper investigates the acoustic Luneburg Lens (ALL) as a design framework for guiding acoustic wave propagation. In this study, we propose to develop an acoustic waveguide based on the characteristics of both acoustic wave focusing and collimation of cascaded ALLs. The continuous variation of refractive index of the ALL is achieved by using lattice unit cells with a graded filling ratio. A cascaded ALL waveguide device is fabricated based on the additive manufacturing technique. Abstract

Construction safety accidents have become increasingly frequent in recent years, leading to numerous casualties and substantial property losses. These incidents are often attributed to inadequate supervision on construction sites and workers’ low safety awareness. Traditional manual management methods, which are labor-intensive and resource-consuming, are no longer effective. Therefore, this study proposes a novel single-stage model based on YOLOv8s, designed for two primary purposes: detecting workers’ personal protective equipment and monitoring and recognizing when workers enter hazardous areas. The model provides real-time feedback on detection results to reduce the incidence of construction accidents. Additionally, a brief design for distance calculation was introduced. The model was trained for 200 iterations on a Roboflow dataset comprising 103,500 annotated images. Experimental results showed that YOLOv8s outperformed YOLOv8n, YOLOv5s, and YOLOv5n in detection performance, achieving a mean average precision with the intersection over union (IoU) threshold set to 50% (mAP50) of 84.0%, precision of 85.0%, and recall of 60.5% across 9 detection classes. By leveraging artificial intelligence technology, this study aims to offer an effective method for enhancing construction site safety, which can be further improved with additional images and a more robust network architecture.

Abstract

This paper presents an IoT-based solution for detecting grouting voids in tunnel construction using the Raspberry Pi microcomputer. Voids between the primary and secondary tunnel linings can compromise structural integrity, and traditional methods like GPR lack continuous feedback. The proposed system uses embedded electrical wires in the secondary lining to measure conductivity, with disruptions indicating unfilled voids. The Raspberry Pi monitors this in real time, uploading data to a cloud platform for engineer access via smartphone. Field tests were conducted in a full-scale, 600 m long tunnel to evaluate the system’s effectiveness. The tests demonstrated the system’s accuracy in detecting voids in various tunnel geometries, including straight sections, curves, and intersections. Using only the proposed void detection system, the largest void detected post-grouting was 1.8 cm, which is within acceptable limits and does not compromise the tunnel’s structural integrity or safety. The system proved to be a cost-effective and scalable solution for real-time monitoring during the grouting process, eliminating the need for continuous manual inspections. This study highlights the potential of IoT-based solutions in smart construction, providing a reliable and practical method for improving tunnel safety and operational efficiency during grouting operations.

Abstract

We study damping signatures at the Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO), a medium-baseline reactor neutrino oscillation experiment. These damping signatures are motivated by various new physics models, including quantum decoherence, $\nu_3$ decay, neutrino absorption, and wave packet decoherence. The phenomenological effects of these models can be characterized by exponential damping factors at the probability level. We assess how well JUNO can constrain these damping parameters and how to disentangle these different damping signatures at JUNO. Compared to current experimental limits, JUNO can significantly improve the limits on $\tau_3/m_3$ in the $\nu_3$ decay model, the width of the neutrino wave packet $\sigma_x$, and the intrinsic relative dispersion of neutrino momentum $\sigma_{\rm rel}$., Comment: 17 pages, 2 figures, 4 tables. Abstract

In this paper, a novel gradient index (GRIN) acoustic metamaterial is proposed based on the concept of optical modified generalized Luneburg lens (MGLL). With the MGLL, double-foci and high energy density between the two foci can be achieved, which enables the realization of an ultra-long acoustic jet between the two foci. Compared to the generalized Luneburg lens with a single focus, which can only achieve short acoustic jet in the near field or ultra-long acoustic jet in the far field, the proposed MGLL can achieve an acoustic jet extending from the near field to the far field. This capability of the MGLL is theoretically and numerically demonstrated. Furthermore, acoustic metamaterial based MGLL is designed with lattice unit cells having a variable filling ratio. Numerical simulation results show that ultra-long acoustic jets can be achieved with a jet length of up to 30{\lambda} , covering both the near field and the far field., Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures
