205. Dissolution Behavior of Pt Alloy Catalysts in Sulfuric Acid Solution

Abstract

The dissolution behavior of platinum alloy has been investigated for application in polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell catalyst. Pt alloys (Pt-Co, Pt-Ni, Pt-Fe) were prepared by arc melting. The electrochemical behavior was studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV) in 0.5M H2SO4 at 298 K. The test solutions were analyzed by using ICP to determine the amount of dissolved ions. The results of CV of Pt-Co, Pt-Ni and Pt-Fe alloy electrodes indicated that the current density of Pt-Co, Pt-Ni was much smaller than that of Pt-Fe alloy and close to that of Pt electrode. The ICP results revealed that amount of dissolution for Pt-Co and Pt-Ni alloys were much lower than that for Pt-Fe alloy.

Abstract

A real-time surface observation system with a channel flow double electrode was developed for analysis of initiation of corrosion pits on copper during anodic polarization. In this system, a video of the surface morphology of a working electrode (WE) is taken by an optical microscope combined with a charge-coupled device camera, and the metallic ions dissolved from the WE can be detected by arranging a detecting electrode (DE) downstream of the WE. It was confirmed that the initiation of micrometer-size pits on copper corresponded to the oscillation of dissolution current of cuprous ions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Abstract

A fuel-free, magneticallyd riven nickel-algal flagella nanomotor was developed. The nanomotor was readily prepared using a streptavidin-coated Au/Ni/Au nanowire and biotinylated-isolated flagella obtained from Chlamydomonas reinhardtii. The nanomotor exhibited defined locomotion parallel to the magnetic field axis, with a speed of 14 µms-1 . A highly regular dendrite pattern surface was fabricated using a dot-pattern zinc sheet by electrodeposition. The relationship between pretreatment conditions and morphology of the dendrite pattern was investigated. Abstract

Wavelet transformation was applied as a noise elimination method of an amperometric algal biosensor. The drift of the baseline current was clearly removed by using the wavelet transformation. The S/N ratio, calculated by the power spectrum density, is about 3-times larger than that calculated by the current response. The response to a herbicide, atrazine, calculated from the power spectrum density in high-noise circumstance, was the same as that calculated from the current response in a low-noise circumstance.
