Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (HT) is the main cause of hypothyroidism. Here the authors develop a deep learning model for diagnosis of HT on a large multi-site dataset including image and video data.

With accumulating dysregulated circular RNAs (circRNAs) in pathological processes, the regulatory functions of circRNAs, especially circRNAs as microRNA (miRNA) sponges and their interactions with RNA-binding proteins (RBPs), have been widely validated. However, the collected information on experimentally validated circRNA–disease associations is only preliminary. Therefore, an updated CircR2Disease database providing a comprehensive resource and web tool to clarify the relationships between circRNAs and diseases in diverse species is necessary. Here, we present an updated CircR2Disease v2.0 with the increased number of circRNA–disease associations and novel characteristics. CircR2Disease v2.0 provides more than 5-fold experimentally validated circRNA–disease associations compared to its previous version. This version includes 4201 entries between 3077 circRNAs and 312 disease subtypes. Secondly, the information of circRNA–miRNA, circRNA–miRNA–target, and circRNA–RBP interactions has been manually collected for various diseases. Thirdly, the gene symbols of circRNAs and disease name IDs can be linked with various nomenclature databases. Detailed descriptions such as samples and journals have also been integrated into the updated version. Thus, CircR2Disease v2.0 can serve as a platform for users to systematically investigate the roles of dysregulated circRNAs in various diseases and further explore the posttranscriptional regulatory function in diseases. Finally, we propose a computational method named circDis based on the graph convolutional network (GCN) and gradient boosting decision tree (GBDT) to illustrate the applications of the CircR2Disease v2.0 database. Abstract Artificial intelligence is an advanced method to identify novel anticancer targets and discover novel drugs from biology networks because the networks can effectively preserve and quantify the interaction between components of cell systems underlying human diseases such as cancer. Here, we review and discuss how to employ artificial intelligence approaches to identify novel anticancer targets and discover drugs. First, we describe the scope of artificial intelligence biology analysis for novel anticancer target investigations. Second, we review and discuss the basic principles and theory of commonly used network-based and machine learning-based artificial intelligence algorithms. Finally, we showcase the applications of artificial intelligence approaches in cancer target identification and drug discovery. Taken together, the artificial intelligence models have provided us with a quantitative framework to study the relationship between network characteristics and cancer, thereby leading to the identification of potential anticancer targets and the discovery of novel drug candidates.

Objective: Large volume radiological text data have been accumulated since the incorporation of electronic health record (EHR) systems in clinical practice. We aimed to determine whether deep natural language processing algorithms could aid radiologists in improving thyroid cancer diagnosis. Methods: Sonographic EHR data were obtained from the EHR database. Pathological reports were used as the gold standard for diagnosing thyroid cancer. We developed thyroid cancer diagnosis based on natural language processing (THCaDxNLP) to interpret unstructured sonographic text reports for thyroid cancer diagnosis. We used the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC) as the primary metric to measure the performance of the THCaDxNLP. We compared the performance of thyroid ultrasound radiologists aided with THCaDxNLP vs. those without THCaDxNLP using 5 independent test sets. Results: We obtained a total number of 788,129 sonographic radiological reports. The number of thyroid sonographic data points was 132,277, 18,400 of which were thyroid cancer patients. Among the 5 test sets, the numbers of patients per set were 439, 186, 82, 343, and 171. THCaDxNLP achieved high performance in identifying thyroid cancer patients (the AUROC ranged from 0.857–0.932). Thyroid ultrasound radiologists aided with THCaDxNLP achieved significantly higher performances than those without THCaDxNLP in terms of accuracy (93.8% vs. 87.2%; one-sided t-test, adjusted P = 0.003), precision (92.5% vs. 86.0%; P = 0.018), and F1 metric (94.2% vs. 86.4%; P = 0.007). Conclusions: THCaDxNLP achieved a high AUROC for the identification of thyroid cancer, and improved the accuracy, sensitivity, and precision of thyroid ultrasound radiologists. This warrants further investigation of THCaDxNLP in prospective clinical trials.

The Southeast (SE) Asian tin belt is a major tin producer globally, with a prolonged mineralization history from the Permian to Paleogene (ca. 285-45 Ma). Tin deposits in this region are typically associated with tectonic settings that involve subduction and collision of the Paleo-, Meso-, and Neo-Tethys slabs. Ca. 40 Ma, a notable transition occurred in the tectonic regime of SE Tibet, with the Neo-Tethys subduction giving way to lateral extrusion of the Indochina block along major strike-slip faults. Previously, it was believed that this shift had brought tin mineralization to a halt. In this study, we present in situ laser ablation-inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry U-Pb cassiterite ages of 21-19 Ma from the Yunling tin deposit located in western Yunnan, China. Yunling produces gem-quality cassiterite that is transparent but contains low U contents, which renders usual U-Pb dating techniques unusable. To address this, a customized dating protocol involving cathodoluminescence (CL) imaging and testing of U distribution on crystallographically welldefined cassiterite crystals was applied. The study revealed two types of primary microstructures in cassiterite: volumetrically dominant concentric oscillatory growth zones and subordinate CL-dark sector zones. The U content shows a preferential enrichment in the CL-dark sector zones, typically tens of parts per million (ppm), which is two orders of magnitude greater than the U content in the concentric zone. This is significant, as the dating results (21-19 Ma) obtained through the targeted selection of CL-dark sector zones represent the youngest tin mineralization event in the SE Asian tin belt. Additionally, these results challenge the established belief that the ore-hosting Indosinian granite, dated to ca. 215 Ma, was related to Sn mineralization in the Yunling area. We suggest that emplacement of the early Neogene Sn mineralization at Yunling may be genetically connected to extensive delamination of the lithosphere in southeastern Tibet. The lithospheric delamination led to the upwelling and decompression partial melting of the asthenosphere, which provides a plausible explanation for the high temperature required for the release of Sn from biotite-dehydration melting of sedimentary protolith. The study also highlights the potential of Oligocene-Miocene-aged granites situated in the Sanjiang Tethys and adjacent areas of western Yunnan as prospective exploration targets for tin mineralization. Polymer flooding, one of the main methods for improving crude oil recovery using chemical flooding technology in China, is widely used for actual oil displacement. Partially hydrolyzed polyacrylamide (HPAM) is a commonly used linear polymer in polymer flooding, but it exhibits poor temperature and salt resistance due to its molecular structure. Therefore, branched polymers have been studied. This article provides a review of the specific synthetic methods and current practical applications in the petrochemical field of dendritic polymers and hyperbranched macromolecules. The advantages and disadvantages of each synthetic method for branched polymers are also elaborated. Finally, the application prospects of branched polymers are discussed. The feasibility of branched polymers in large quantities should be further verified through additional field tests, which should address concerns such as synthesis costs and reaction efficiency.

In recent years, with the rapid growth in the number of electric vehicles (EVs), the large-scale grid connection of EVs has had a profound impact on the power grid. As a flexible energy storage resource, EVs can participate in auxiliary services of the power grid via vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology. Due to the uncertainty of EVs accessing the grid, it is difficult to accurately control their charging and charging behaviors at both the day-ahead and real-time stages. Aiming at this problem, this paper proposes a two-stage scheduling strategy framework for EVs. In the presented framework, according to historical driving data, a day-ahead scheduling model based on distributionally robust optimization (DRO) is first established to determine the total power plan. In the real-time scheduling stage, a real-time scheduling model based on model predictive control (MPC) is established to track the day-ahead power plan. It can reduce the impact of EVs’ uncertainties. This strategy can ensure the charging demand of users is under the control of the charging and discharging behaviors of EVs, which can improve the accuracy of controlling EVs. The case study shows that the scheduling strategy can achieve accurate and fast control of charging and discharging. At the same time, it can effectively contribute to the security and stability of grid operations.

The requirements for drilling bentonites are tightening due to ever-increasing demands for petroleum resources, coupled with cost and reaction technology constraints. In addition to raising the risk of drilling, bentonite’s poor performance also raises the possibility of safety incidents and significant financial losses. Organically modified bentonites effectively reduce the consumption of drilling fluids, conserve resources, and lessen environmental effects. This paper aims to provide an overview of the several organic modification methods of bentonite for drilling fluids. It also evaluates the characteristics and application impacts of bentonite. We primarily describe the three popular modification methods represented by intercalation, coupling, and grafting. Also, this review provides the effect of molecular simulation on the investigation of structure in microconfined conditions. Through microlearning, organically modified bentonite with exceptional performance is to be further developed.

Abstract Breast cancer is the most common malignancy among women across the globe. Recent studies have revealed that many long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) regulate the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway in several types of cancer. Hyperactivation of the Wnt/β-catenin pathway has been extensively presented in breast cancer and is involved in breast cancer progression. However, the underlying molecular mechanism remains elusive. In the current study, we found lncRNA RBM5-AS1 was remarkably upregulated in breast cancer cells and tissues. Overexpression of RBM5-AS1 facilitated proliferation, migration, invasion, EMT, and stemness maintenance of breast cancer cells in vitro and in vivo. Mechanism studies suggested that RBM5-AS1 could be transcriptionally activated by hypoxia-induced RUNX2. Upregulated RBM5-AS1 further activated the Wnt/β-catenin signaling by preventing β-catenin degradation and by helping organize β-catenin-TCF4 transcriptional complex. These findings suggested that RBM5-AS1, a regulator of Wnt/β-catenin signaling, plays a vital role in breast cancer initiation and progression, implicating its potential as a new target for breast cancer treatment.

BackgroundAs a common disease causing human health impairment and disability, deafness has a leading morbidity among all the disabling diseases. Many factors could lead to deafness, among which genetic factors account for about 60%. Gene screening and pedigree analysis can be used to determine whether one has hereditary deafness, so as to provide corresponding genetic counseling services for hereditary deafness patients to stop the transmission of deafness from one generation to the next.ObjectiveTo investigate the hearing loss status and prevalence of mutations in genes associated with deafness in deafness patients from Shandong, to identify pathogenic causes of hearing impairment.MethodsOur study included a total of 5 664 hearing-impaired patients with a hearing disability certificate or a diagnosis of hearing loss, who participated in the genetic testing program for hereditary hearing loss in Shandong Province from 2016 to 2020. Hearing loss was tested by pure-tone audiometry. Genetic testing was carried out with DNA microarray to detect mutations at 15 loci in four common hereditary deafness-related genes.ResultsAmong the 5 664 cases, 3 891 had grade 1 (mild) hearing disability, 1 463 had grade 2 (moderate) hearing disability, 188 had grade 3 (severe) hearing disability, 73 had grade 4 (profound) hearing disability, and the remaining 49 consisting of 38 cases of microtia and 11 cases of external auditory canal closure. In terms of deafness-related gene mutations, 2 503 cases were detected with mutations, 1 227 of them (21.66%) carrying GJB2 gene mutations, 975 (17.21%) carrying SLC26A4 gene mutations, 97 (1.71%) carrying mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene mutations, 158 (2.79%) carrying GJB3 gene mutations, and 46 (0.81%) carrying double heterozygous mutations. Both GJB2 and SLC26A4 gene mutations were hotspot mutations in patients with grades 1-4 hearing disability. Background: T cell exhaustion (TEX) heterogeneity leads to unfavorable immunotherapeutic responses in patients with cancer. Classification of TEX molecular phenotypes is pivotal to overcoming TEX and improving immunotherapies in the clinical setting. Cuproptosis is a novel form of programmed cell death associated with tumor progression. However, the relation between cuproptosis-related genes (CuRGs) and the different TEX phenotypes has not been investigated in lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD).Methods: Unsupervised hierarchical clustering and principal component analysis (PCA) algorithm were performed to determine CuRGs-related molecular subtypes and scores for patients with LUAD. The tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) landscape in these molecular subtypes and scores was estimated using ESTIMATE and ssGSEA algorithms. Furthermore, TEX characteristics and phenotypes were evaluated in distinct molecular subtypes and scores through GSVA and Spearman correlation analysis. Finally, TIDE scores, immunophenoscore, pRRophetic, GSE78220, and IMvigor210 datasets were employed to appraise the distinguishing capacity of CuRGscore in immunotherapy and pharmacotherapy effectiveness.Results: We identified three CuRGclusters, three geneClusters, and CuRGscore based on 1012 LUAD transcriptional profiles from five datasets. Compared with other molecular subtypes, CuRGcluster B, geneCluster C, and low-CuRGscore group with good prognosis presented fewer TEX characteristics, including immunosuppressive cells infiltration and TEX-associated gene signatures, signal pathways, checkpoint genes, transcription and inflammatory factors. These molecular subtypes were also responsive in distinguishing TEX phenotype in the terminal, GZMK+, and OXPHOS- TEX subtypes, but not the TCF7+ TEX subtype. Notably, copper importer and exporter, SLC31A1 and ATP7B, were remarkably associated with four TEX phenotypes and nine checkpoint genes such as PDCD1, CTLA4, HAVCR2, TIGIT, LAG3, IDO1, SIGLEC7, CD274, PDCD1LG2, indicating that cuproptosis was involved in the development of TEX and immunosuppressive environment in patients with LUAD. Moreover, CuRGscore was significantly related to the TIDE score, immunophenoscore, and terminal TEX score (Spearman R = 0.62, p < 0.001) to effectively predict immunotherapy and drug sensitivity in both training and external validation cohorts.Conclusion: Our study demonstrated the extensive effect of cuproptosis on TEX. CuRGs-related molecular subtypes and scores could illuminate the heterogeneity of TEX phenotype as reliable tools in predicting prognosis and directing more effective immunotherapeutic and chemotherapeutic strategies for patients with LUAD.

BackgroundThis study explored the effectiveness and safety of low-volume polyethylene glycol electrolyte lavage solution (PEG-ELS) combined with ascorbic acid tablets (PEG-ELS/Asc) in bowel preparation for a colonoscopy.MethodsA total of 240 hospitalized patients who underwent a colonoscopy in Wenzhou People’s Hospital, Wenzhou Third Clinical College of Wenzhou Medical University from July 2020 to June 2022 were randomly divided into two groups, with 120 patients each. All of the participants were given a low-residue or residue-free diet one day before the examination and fasted after dinner (completed before 18:00) the day before the examination. The 2-L PEG-ELS/Asc group took 2-L PEG-ELS plus 10 g ascorbic acid tablets once orally, while the 3-L PEG-ELS group took 3-L PEG orally on several occasions. The primary endpoint was the achievement of preparation adequacy and an overall colon cleansing score of ≥6, both assessed by blinded investigators using the Boston Bowel Preparation Scale (BBPS). The bowel cleansing effect, polyp detection rate, adverse reaction rate, oral drug tolerance rate, renal function, and electrolyte level changes were also compared between the two patient groups.ResultsThere were no significant differences in the success rate of bowel preparation, the detection rate of polyps, or the adverse reaction rate between the two groups (P > 0.05). The tolerance rate of bowel preparation in the 2-L PEG-ELS/Asc group was significantly higher than that in the 3-L PEG-ELS group (93.3% vs. 80.23%) (P < 0.05). The levels of creatinine, serum potassium, serum sodium, and serum chlorine of the two groups before and after bowel preparation were within the normal range. In addition, the intestinal cleaning effect of the two preparation schemes for the hospitalized patients with diabetes and constipation is worse than that of those without these conditions (P < 0.05).ConclusionThe effectiveness and safety of using 2-L PEG-ELS/Asc in bowel preparation for a colonoscopy in hospitalized patients were not inferior to using 3-L PEG-ELS. For patients with diabetes and constipation, the cleansing effect of the two bowel preparation options was not very satisfactory, and further clinical research is needed in this regard.

Abstract Stimuli‐responsive structural coloration allows the color change of soft substrates in response to environmental stimuli such as heat, humidity, and solvents. Such color‐changing systems enable smart soft devices, such as the camouflageable skin of soft robots or chromatic sensors in wearable devices. However, individually and independently programmable stimuli‐responsive color pixels remain significant challenges among the existing color‐changing soft materials and devices, which are crucial for dynamic display. Inspired by the dual‐color concavities on butterfly wings, a morphable concavity array to pixelate the structural color of two‐dimensional photonic crystal elastomer and achieve individually and independently addressable stimuli‐responsive color pixels is designed. The morphable concavity can convert its surface between concave and flat upon changes in the solvent and temperature, accompanied by angle‐dependent color‐shifting. Through multichannel microfluidics, the color of each concavity can be controllably switched. Based on the system, the dynamic display by forming reversibly editable letters and patterns for anti‐counterfeiting and encryption are demonstrated. It is believed that the strategy of pixelating optical properties through locally altering surface topography can inspire the design of new transformable optical devices, such as artificial compound eyes or crystalline lenses for biomimetic and robotic applications.

The subgenus Cerasus, one of the most important groups in the genus Prunus sensu lato, comprises over 100 species; however, the taxonomic classification and phylogenetic relationships of Cerasus remain controversial. Therefore, it is necessary to reconstruct the phylogenetic tree for known Cerasus species. Here, we report the chloroplast (cp) genome sequences of 11 Cerasus species to provide insight into evolution of the plastome. The cp genomes of the 11 Cerasus species (157,571–158,830 bp) displayed a typical quadripartite circular structure. The plastomes contain 115 unique genes, including 80 protein-coding genes, four ribosomal RNAs, and 31 transfer RNAs. Twenty genes were found to be duplicated in inverted repeats as well as at the boundary. The conserved non-coding sequences showed significant divergence compared with the coding regions. We found 12 genes and 14 intergenic regions with higher nucleotide diversity and more polymorphic sites, including matK, rps16, rbcL, rps16-trnQ, petN-psbM, and trnL-trnF. During cp plastome evolution, the codon profile has been strongly biased toward the use of A/T at the third base, and leucine and isoleucine codons appear the most frequently. We identified strong purifying selection on the rpoA, cemA, atpA, and petB genes; whereas ccsA, rps19, matK, rpoC2, ycf2 and ndhI showed a signature of possible positive selection during the course of Cerasus evolution. In addition, we further analyzed the phylogenetic relationships of these species with 57 other congenic related species.Through reconstructing the Cerasus phylogeny tree, we found that true cherry is similar to the flora of China forming a distinct group, from which P. mahaleb was separated as an independent subclade. Microcerasus was genetically closer to Amygdalus, Armeniaca, and Prunus (sensu stricto) than to members of true cherry, whereas P. japonica and P. tomentosa were most closely related to P. triloba and P. pedunculata. However, P. tianshanica formed a clade with P. cerasus, P. fruticosa, P. cerasus × P. canescens ‘Gisela 6’, and P. avium as a true cherry group. These results provide new insights into the plastome evolution of Cerasus, along with potential molecular markers and candidate DNA barcodes for further phylogenetic and phylogeographic analyses of Cerasus species.

This paper investigates the impact of increasing maximum wind speed of tropical cyclones on the return periods of water levels in the sea area of the Yangtze River Delta. To conduct this study, a series of numerical experiments are performed using historical tropical cyclones that impacted the Yangtze River Delta from 1949 to 2019. The aim is to analyze the effects of global climate change on extreme water levels and the corresponding return periods. To obtain the historical water levels in the sea areas of the Yangtze River Delta, a storm surge model is driven by the selected tropical cyclones. The simulated astronomical tidal levels during the same period are also used. The extreme water levels of different return periods are then calculated. The maximum wind speeds of the selected tropical cyclones are increased by 11% according to the expected amount of increase under global climate change. The extreme water levels of different return periods under this scenario are calculated with the same procedure. The results of the study show that the impact of increasing maximum wind speed of tropical cyclones on the increases of extreme water levels and the decrease of return periods is more significant in the inner area of the estuaries than in the outer areas. Moreover, the responses of the extreme water levels and the corresponding return periods in the Yangtze River Estuary and the Hangzhou Bay show different characteristics. The results of this study provide significant reference value for the management of future coastal disaster prevention and mitigation in the Yangtze River Delta. Furthermore, the methodology used in this study can be applied in other estuaries to investigate the potential impacts of changes in climate and hydrology factors on extreme water levels and the corresponding return periods.

Alternaria alternata is a necrotrophic fungal pathogen with a broad host range that causes widespread and devastating disease in sweet cherry (Prunus avium). We selected a resistant cultivar (RC) and a susceptible cultivar (SC) of cherry and used a combined physiological, transcriptomic, and metabolomic approach to investigate the molecular mechanisms underlying the plant’s resistance to A. alternata, of which little is known. We found that A. alternata infection stimulated the outbreak of reactive oxygen species (ROS) in cherry. The responses of the antioxidant enzymes and chitinase to disease were observed earlier in the RC than in the SC. Moreover, cell wall defense ability was stronger in the RC. Differential genes and metabolites involved in defense responses and secondary metabolism were primarily enriched in the biosynthesis of phenylpropanoids, tropane, piperidine and pyridine alkaloids, flavonoids, amino acids, and α-linolenic acid. Reprogramming the phenylpropanoid pathway and the α-linolenic acid metabolic pathway led to lignin accumulation and early induction of jasmonic acid signaling, respectively, in the RC, which consequently enhanced antifungal and ROS scavenging activity. The RC contained a high level of coumarin, and in vitro tests showed that coumarin significantly inhibited A. alternata growth and development and had antifungal effect on cherry leaves. In addition, differentially expressed genes encoding transcription factors from the MYB, NAC, WRKY, ERF, and bHLH families were highly expressed, they could be the key responsive factor in the response of cherry to infection by A. alternata. Overall, this study provides molecular clues and a multifaceted understanding of the specific response of cherry to A. alternata.

BackgroundThe tumor microenvironment (TME) of pancreatic cancer is complex. which forms forms a microenvironment with high immunosuppression, ischemia and hypoxia, which promotes tumor proliferation and migration, inhibit the anti-tumor immune response. NOX4 plays an important role in tumor microenvironment and has a significant relationship with the occurrence, development and drug resistance of tumor.MethodsFirstly, NOX4 expression in pancreatic cancer tissues under different pathological conditions was detected by applying immunohistochemical staining of tissue microarray (TMA). Transcriptome RNA sequencing data and clinical data of 182 pancreatic cancer samples were downloaded and collated from the UCSC xena database. 986 NOX4-related lncRNAs were filtered by Spearman correlation analysis. prognosis-related NOX4-related lncRNAs and NRlncSig Score were finally obtained by univariate and multivariate Cox regression with Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator (Lasso) analysis in pancreatic cancer patients. we plotted Kaplan -Meier and time-dependent ROC curves (ROC) to assess the validity in predicting the prognosis of pancreatic cancer. The ssGSEA analysis was applied to explore the immune microenvironment of pancreatic cancer patients as well as to discuss the immune cells and immune status separately.ResultsWe found that a mature tumor marker, NOX4, play different roles in different clinical subgroups by immunohistochemical analysis and clinical data. Finally, 2 NOX4-related lncRNAs were determined by least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) analysis, univariate Cox analysis and multivariate COX analysis. The ROC curve and DCA curve showed that NRS Score had better predictive ability than independent prognosis-related lncRNA and other clinicopathologic indicators. We obtained the relative abundance of 28 infiltrating immune cells by ssGSEA analysis and found a significant positive correlation between the abundance of anti-tumor immune cells and tumor-promoting immune cells in the risk-classified microenvironment. No matter NRS Score or AC092667.2, RP11-349A8.3 was significantly correlated with immune infiltrating cells. Meanwhile, the IC50 of conventional chemotherapeutic agents in high-score group were significantly lower than those in low-score group. ConclusionAs a mature tumor marker, NOX4-related lncRNAs provide new research strategies for prognostic evaluation, molecular mechanism and clinical treatment of pancreatic cancer.

Summary: Leukemic-stem-cell-specific targeting may improve the survival of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) by avoiding the ablative effects of standard regimens on normal hematopoiesis. Herein, we perform an unbiased screening of compounds targeting cell surface proteins and identify clinically used DPP4 inhibitors as strong suppressors of AML development in both murine AML models and primary human AML cells xenograft model. We find in retrovirus-induced AML mouse models that DPP4-deficient AML cell-transplanted mice exhibit delay and reversal of AML development, whereas deletion of DPP4 has no significant effect on normal hematopoiesis. DPP4 activates and sustains survival of AML stem cells that are critical for AML development in both human and animal models via binding with Src kinase and activation of nuclear factor κB (NF-κB) signaling. Thus, inhibition of DPP4 is a potential therapeutic strategy against AML development through suppression of survival and stemness of AML cells.

Abstract The sub‐nanometer‐diameter transitional‐metal chalcogenides (M6X6) molecular wires are ideal 1D quantum systems. The electronic properties of such system are very sensitive to the interface interaction and local imperfection. Here, the atomic structure and local electronic structure of van der Waals (vdW) stacking Mo6Te6 nanowires fabricated by using molecular beam epitaxy are reported. Atomic‐resolution scanning tunneling microscopy measurement shows that the vdW interface distance varies from 0.71 to 1.05 nm when Mo6Te6 wires stacked on graphite, MoTe2, and Mo6Te6 surfaces. Scanning tunneling spectroscopy confirmed the 1D quantum effect of van Hove singularity and Tomonaga–Luttinger liquid behavior at 77.8 K. Single Te vacancies and their effect to the local structure distortion are observed as well. These observations shed light on the local structure and quantum effects of the M6X6 nanowire materials, which may find applications in future electronic devices.
