- Abstract
This study aims to determine the impact of foreign direct investments on renewable energy. To this end, Turkey's economy is analyzed. The Johansen cointegration method and Hacker - Hatemi (2006) bootstrap causality test are used in this study. According to the cointegration test results, there is no long-term relationship between foreign direct investments and renewable energy. Additionally, the causality relationship between foreign direct investments and renewable energy could not be determined. According to these findings, foreign direct investments will not affect renewable energy through technological diffusion or environmental pollution. Therefore, in this case, the increase in foreign direct investments will not positively or negatively impact renewable energy consumption. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

One of the important factors of both regional progress and economic development is energy issue. As the demand for energy increases with the growing population, countries are developing various policies about the supply, distribution and sustainability of energy in planning energy investments. At this point, investments for renewable energy (RE) sources that will cause the least damage to the environment and can be transferred to future generations are increasing considering the climate change and greenhouse gas emission risks. The aim of the study is to analyze RE resources in TR83 region from a multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) perspective by presenting an application for evaluating RE investments. For this purpose, using the CRITIC based Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) approach, it was provided that the RE sources in TR83 region were evaluated and ranked with respect to their performance. While the CRITIC method allows an objective weighting for the criteria, GRA provides to find out the best alternative for problems which include missing information or uncertainty. According to the result of the method, it is observed that the province which is the best in point of RE investments at the regional level is Samsun. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

CLEAN energy , *CLIMATE change , *ATMOSPHERIC models - Abstract
The European Green Deal has expanded the climate perspective of the European Union (EU) and put a sustainable and environmentally friendly energy strategy at the centre. For the first time in the history of the EU integration, the EU budget has been designed for prioritizing the climate strategy and conditioned in accordance with the climate targets. Within this context, in this study, the common budget priorities, Green Deal targets and internal/external challenges of the EU are addressed together, aiming to answer the questions to what extent the global climate change is perceived as an emergency by the EU and whether the EU's green transformation approach is sufficient and applicable. The study is conducted in the light of current literature and data on the EU's climate approach and financing instruments in order to answer these questions. The study concludes that although the climate model reflected in the EU's new budget is an important step in combating the climate crisis, difficulties could not be overcome due to the intra-EU dynamics/lack of consensus, and unless a systemic transition in a global sense takes place, the dramatic transformation targeted by the Green Deal would remain discursively assertive, but actionally ambiguous. ELECTRIC power distribution , *ELECTRICITY & the environment , *RENEWABLE energy sources , *COST effectiveness , *COST control - Abstract
Demand for energy, which is an indispensable element of daily life, increases in parallel with technological developments and world population. Quality and continuous supply of energy, which is considered an important development indicator for countries, is of great importance. The limited fossil-based energy resources in the world and their pressure on the environment encourage countries to utilize alternative energy resources. In this study, grid-connected and off-grid hybrid renewable energy systems were designed using the HOMER Pro program to meet the domestic electricity need, using the electricity consumption data of 2020 for a detached house. The installation and operating costs of the designed energy systems were calculated and the systems were compared. The total net present cost for the system independent of the grid was calculated as 75749,99 TL (9159,6 $), while the total net present cost for the system connected to the grid was calculated as 11304,57 TL (1366,9 $). It has been determined that the system connected to the grid is the most suitable system for the house. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Nowadays, “energy production” and “global climate change and mitigation”, which are in direct relation with each other, are the most important environmental problems waiting for a solution. Renewable and sustainable energy sources provide the most appropriate alternatives for the solution of this problem. In Turkey, one of the important raw material potential of renewable and sustainable energy sources is “Biomass energy”; it is used in biogas production, biofuel production such as biodiesel, bioethanol, biobuthanol and gasification-burning technology. In this study; the potential for agricultural wastes derived from agricultural activities and domestic wastes from Çukurkuyu town of Niğde where the main economic source are agriculture and livestock, were calculated by using incineration technology, which is one of the methods of production of renewable electric energy. In this study, a feasibility study was carried out for the production of renewable electricity from the wastes generated in the town and the potential of renewable electricity generation was determined by the obtained data. Moreover, in this study, fossil fuel balance of the electricity produced from biomass was determined and potential for greenhouse gas emission reduction was determined. Thus, as an alternative to fossil fuels, energy production from renewable sources has been determined both in agricultural waste management.

ANIMAL waste , *BIOGAS production , *ENERGY development , *LIVESTOCK , *ALTERNATIVE fuels , *ANAEROBIC digestion - Abstract
In many developing countries, including Turkey, the implementation of waste to energy technology is known as one of the most effective approaches to reach sustainable energy development targets. Although, Turkey with a large number of farm animals has a significant potential, but this potential unrealized for biogas production so far. This study aims to highlight the potential implementation of waste to energy technology via the production of biogas from animal waste as an alternative energy generation in Turkey. Anaerobic digestion of renewable feed stocks such as animal waste has been known as a promising technology for the production of clean energy in the form of biogas. In this study, the energy potential of Erzincan province animal waste was calculated. Findings show that approximately 15.5 million m³year-1 biogas potential can be produced from animal waste in Erzincan. Accordingly, considering the distances, waste capacities and economic efficiency of Erzincan and its districts, 3 different biogas power plant scenarios with 0.5 MW, 1.2 MW and 2.4 MW installed power have been prepared. Appropriate facility capacities, investment costs of these facilities and payback times of the investment required for each facility were calculated. Based on the investigation, numerous opportunities could be explored in terms of turning animal waste to energy by biogas production in Erzincan. It is also possible to establish more biogas plants in the region, in smaller sizes, than the number recommended. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Energy is one of the basic building blocks in the economic system of countries. Major environmental problems such as fluctuations in energy prices, insufficient energy resources, global warming and climate change have steered countries towards alternative energy sources like modern biomass energy. As a result, countries have been compelled to revise the structure of the basic macroeconomic indicators that constitute the trajectory of the economic system, such as foreign direct investments (FDI) and economic growth (EG) with regard to alternative energy sources. The causality relationship between biomass energy consumption (BEC) and FDI inflows in the country groups classified as lower-middle, upper-middle and high-income by the World Bank for the period 1970-2017 has been examined in the study. According to the findings obtained, it is understood that causality from BEC to FDI in all three countries, whereas causality from FDI to BEC disappears as the income levels of the countries increase. This findings put forward that there is a transition from growth hypothesis to feedback hypothesis as income level decreases. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

- Abstract
Increasing energy demand, oil, coal, natural gas, etc. As a result of being supplied from fossil fuels, natural resources are being depleted rapidly. Renewable energy sources, which are alternative to these resources, are increasing their importance. Moreover, global energy demand is estimated to be approximately 30 or 46 TW by 2050 and 2100. Renewable energy sources constitute an alternative at the energy point with the rapid depletion of fossil fuel energy sources. The use and importance of renewable energy is increasing day by day. In this study, the potential of Adıyaman province in terms of renewable energy sources such as solar energy, wind energy, geothermal energy, biomass energy, hydroelectric energy, wave and hydrogen energy were investigated. In the study Bepa (Biomass Energy Potential Atlas) Software Program, TÜİK (Turkey Statistics Institute) data, the Solar Med software program is used. As result of this study, it has been determined that the potential of renewable energy resources of Adıyaman city is 251,252 MW/year from solar, wind, hydroelectric energy, and annual electricity energy that can be produced theoretically from biogas energy potential is 1,330 MW / year. As a result, it has been found that the city of Adıyaman can generate 252,582 MW/year of electricity per year from renewable energy. It has been determined that geothermal, hydrogen and wave energies are not available. The amount of renewable energy potential found in Adıyaman province and the electrical energy obtained from this amount can be evaluated with the investments and projects to be made. At this point, it is aimed to contribute to the economy by using renewable energy sources. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

WASTE heat , *ENERGY consumption , *HEAT , *ENERGY conversion , *ELECTRICAL energy , *THERMOELECTRIC generators - Abstract
Industrial Thermoelectric Generators (TEGs) with up to 10% energy conversion efficiency contribute to energy efficiency by using electrical energy to obtain heat from waste heat. The TEG internal resistance and the unequal load resistance considerably reduce the efficiency. Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) algorithms are used to eliminate or minimize the imbalance between internal resistance and load resistance. In this study, the MPPT algorithm was modeled with MATLAB/Simulink by using the buck-boost converter to ensure the matching between internal resistance and load resistance based on Perturb and Observe (P&O). First, a TEG modeling was performed based on the Seebeck constant and temperature difference. In this modeling, after determining the TEGs to be connected in series and parallel, the variable load resistance was directly connected to the output of the TEG model. The output power of the TEG is calculated for the load resistance and the temperature difference values. In this case, it was determined that TEG without MPPT was highly affected by the load changes. The efficiency value is therefore continuously oscillating. Subsequently, this temperature difference change and the variable load were applied to the TEG system buck-boost converter with P&O MPPT. The TEG system with P&O MPPT algorithm was observed to track the Maximum Power Point (MPP) with an accuracy of 98.72% despite load and temperature changes. Thanks to the developed TEG system modeling of the P&O MPPT buck-boost converter, a simulation study is provided for the designers who will design the TEG system only to enter the Seebeck constant, series- parallel connected TEG numbers. RENEWABLE energy sources , *POWER resources , *ENERGY security , *BIOMASS , *HYDRAULICS - Abstract
Turkey growing energy needs, depending on the technological developments and increasing population does not meet the existing reserves of fossil origin. As a result, we are a country that is highly dependent on foreign resources in terms of energy resources, and renewable energy sources. Increased environmental awareness and energy supply security make renewable energy sources very important. The aim of this study is to identify the most suitable renewable energy source alternative for Turkey using MCDM methods. Based on the information obtained from the evaluation forms filled with the opinions of experts in the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, criterion weighting with the AHP method and weighting of sources alternative with the COPRAS, MULTIMOORA method were calculated. In the study, 4 main criteria, 17 sub criteria and 5 alternative energy sources (Wind, Solar, Geothermal, Biomass, Hydraulics) were determined. As a result of the analysis, it was determined that hydroelectric, solar, wind, geothermal and biomass are respectively the most suitable renewable energy sources in both methods. Public policy analysis basically provides researchers and other relevant actors with comprehensive output to comprehend the effectiveness and the efficiency of the policies. Renewable energy sources are highly crucial especially for the maintenance of sustainable development. Therefore, most of the countries like Turkey, attempt and even struggle to have a functional renewable energy policy with the aim of having diverse energy sources and infrastructure. International actors such as the European Union (EU) have huge and practical impacts on the public policy making process of many countries. In this fashion, the renewable energy policy of Turkey is mostly shaped or formulated according to the EU acquis. The study is a significant effort to scrutinize the renewable energy policy of Turkey by benefiting from the energy chapter of regular progress reports (country reports) published by the European Commission which is the executive body of the EU. The fundamental aim of the study is to put forth the determinations and the expectations of the EU on renewable energy policy to conduct an extensive analysis. In this manner, various policy suggestions regarding renewable energy policy of Turkey is proposed and presented in order to make encouraging contributions. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

RENEWABLE energy sources , *ENERGY consumption , *RURAL geography , *COST analysis ,DEVELOPED countries - Abstract
In terms of renewable energy sources, our country has a much bigger energy potential compared to many developed countries. Especially in terms of solar energy, our country is among the countries with the greatest solar energy potential among other countries. The base stations of GSM operators bring a significant cost to our country in terms of energy transport line and energy consumption in rural and mountainous areas. For this reason, especially in rural areas away from the center, GSM base stations can be supplied with solar energy to meet their economic needs. In this study, a sample base station system which is fed with solar energy in Isparta province is designed. Battery capacity and number of panels were determined and cost analysis was performed. In case of using PV with solar energy in base stations, system cost is high. However, it was observed that the use of PV saved 41% of the energy costs of the base station during the sun-drenched summer months. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]

Başka bir deyişle, Demokles'in kılıcı altında duran "karakter" ele alınmıştır. Bu kişi "politika yapıcı" mı, "araştırmacı" mı yoksa "firma sahibi" midir? Yoksa bunlar birbirinden ayrılamaz olduğu için aynı korkuyu mu hissediyorlar?, Health biotechnology (HEB) and renewable energy (RES) are emerging and promising research areas for developing countries and Turkey. Science and Technology (S&T) policies can potentially be exploited to eradicate the unbalances in S&T capacity building for developed and developing countries. Nonetheless, policy-making in these sectors is seen as ambiguous and unsettled in Turkey due to the developing nature of the technologies, the dynamic environment in which technologies are used and changing circumstances depending on the actors’ problems and needs. Policies in HEB are loose compared to policies in RES. Nonetheless, these two sectors are distinct and unique in their peculiarities; responses to the policy problems are converging due to the common motivation of political intervention, namely uncertainty in decision-making. This joint structural response makes them search for illegal or auxiliary solutions for their sectoral problems and needs. Therefore, here the main examination unit is the ‘uncertainty’ in policy-makers' actions that make the actors behave in parallel despite structural differences. In this context, we discuss the socioeconomic impacts of the political intervention of the Turkish policy-makers in HEB and RES. For this purpose, two qualitative data sets are elaborated, and the joint and separate patterns behind the policy-making were examined with interview data from HEB and RES. In other words, we discussed the "character" sitting under the sword of Damocles. Is it a "policy-maker", "researcher", or the "firm owner"? Or are they inseparable, and so are they feeling the same fear?

- Abstract
The demand for energy as a basic input in production is increasing every day. Fossil fuels, which make up the bulk of the primary energy supply, will eventually run out, even though new reserves are being discovered. Political instability in countries with significant reserves of these fuels leads to price volatility, which tends to be upward. For these reasons, energy economics has been studied by economists in a variety of ways, especially since the late 1970s, when the oil crises occurred. The role of energy in economic growth and development, efficient use of energy, secure, continuous and sufficient supply of energy, energy efficiency, volatility of energy prices, energy policy and environmental impact of energy are the main areas of study in energy economics. Numerous academic studies have contributed to the growing breadth and depth of the field. This book brings together theoretical and empirical studies on new trends in energy economics and aims to provide a new and holistic contribution to the field, as well as policy recommendations to decision makers. With the contributions of scholars from different universities in Turkey, the multidimensional nature of energy economics has been evaluated from different perspectives. The book consists of nine chapters, each of which represents original research., Üretimde temel girdi olarak kullanılan enerjinin talebi her geçen gün artmaktadır.

- Abstract
Today, most of the energy consumed is obtained from the systems that produce energy by using fossil fuel.As a result of increasing use of fossil fuels, CO2 emissions to the atmosphere increase and this leads to global warming and climate change.Considering that our resources are limited, meeting the energy demand shows that the existing resources should be used more efficiently. It is necessary to meet the energy need from renewable energy sources with available technology and available facilities and to minimize the environmental impact of renewable energy sources with short life cycles. In our country where more than 60% of the energy requirement is provided from imported sources, significant contributions can be made to the national economy with thermal energy storage systems that enable it to benefit from its own natural resources. In addition, it will make significant contributions to energy reliability and sustainability with TES systems.
