Abstract

This paper studies the structure of the shielding device of DC device in the UHV converter station. Through simulation analysis, the electric field distribution on the surface of the shielding device is calculated to find the factors that affect the maximum field strength and the maximum electric field of the shielding device at different opening sizes and flange radius. By optimizing the structure and using a lantern-shaped shielding device, the maximum electric field strength on the surface of the shielding device of the same size can be reduced by more than 15%. The research of this project is of guiding significance for the design of shielding devices of UHV DC engineering in high altitude areas, and of great significance for promoting the progress and development of UHV DC transmission technology.

222. Identification of a novel homozygous nonsense mutation in EYS in a Chinese family with autosomal recessive retinitis pigmentosa

Abstract

Abstract Background Retinitis pigmentosa is the most important hereditary retinal degenerative disease, which has a high degree of clinical and genetic heterogeneity. More than half of all cases of retinitis pigmentosa are autosomal recessive (arRP), but the gene(s) causing arRP in most families has yet to be identified. The purpose of this study is to identify the genetic basis of severe arRP in a consanguineous Chinese family. Methods Linkage and haplotype analyses were used to define the chromosomal location of the pathogenic gene in the Chinese arRP family. Direct DNA sequence analysis of the entire coding region and exon-intron boundaries of EYS was used to determine the disease-causing mutation, and to demonstrate that the mutation co-segregates with the disease in the family. Results A single nucleotide substitution of G to T at nucleotide 5506 of EYS was identified in the Chinese arRP family. This change caused a substitution of a glutamic acid residue at codon 1,836 by a stop codon TAA (p.E1836X), and resulted in a premature truncated EYS protein with 1,835 amino acids. Three affected siblings in the family were homozygous for the p.E1836X mutation, while the other unaffected family members carried one mutant allele and one normal EYS allele. The nonsense mutation p.E1836X was not detected in 200 unrelated normal controls. Conclusions The EYS gene is a recently identified disease-causing gene for retinitis pigmentosa, and encodes the orthologue of Drosophila spacemaker. To date, there are only eight mutations in EYS that have been identified to cause arRP. Here we report one novel homozygous nonsense mutation of EYS in a consanguineous Chinese arRP family. Our study represents the first independent confirmation that mutations in EYS cause arRP. Additionally, this is the first EYS mutation identified in the Chinese population.

Abstract

From my eighteen years of work at China's Ministry of Commerce, of which over a dozen years on China WTO cases, from the first-ever U.S.-Steel Safeguards to most of the important cases, I try to provide in this article a general understanding in China: WTO dispute settlement system is a peaceful and an effective way to solve trade issues between China and other WTO members, and China is becoming more and more confident in this system as it is experiencing more and more cases. The 'evidence' is found in training courses and seminars on the WTO in the early days, its first 'exciting' case, the first five 'quiet' years, the second five 'noisy' years, and the subsequent 'normal' years. It concludes by introducing the group of people working in this area, pointing out the significance of these cases, i.e., the rule of law in China, and expecting a better future for both China and the WTO with academic research and school teaching.

Abstract

This paper focuses on consensus analysis of fractional‐order singular multi‐agent systems (FOSMASs) with uncertainties under fixed topology. The definition of admissible consensus or robust admissible consensus of FOSMASs is proposed and the communication network topology is assumed to be an undirected or a directed graph. Through a coordinate transformation, the admissible consensus of FOSMASs is converted into two parts, one is regularity and impulse‐free of single fractional‐order singular (FOS) linear system, another one is admissibility of multiple FOS linear systems. The consensus conditions are expressed by linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) via SVD technique. Some simulation examples are given to show how to solve LMIs to get the control gain. 226. Electrochemical Fixation of Nitrogen by Promoting N2Adsorption and N–N Triple Bond Cleavage on the CoS2/MoS2Nanocomposite

Abstract

An electrochemical N2reduction reaction (NRR), as an environmentally benign method to produce NH3, is a suitable alternative to substitute the energy-intensive Haber–Bosch technology. Unfortunately, to date, it is obstructed by the lack of efficient electrocatalysts. Here, a CoS2/MoS2nanocomposite with CoS2nanoparticles decorated on MoS2nanosheets is fabricated and adapted as a catalyst for the NRR. As unveiled by experimental and theoretical results, the strong interaction between CoS2and MoS2modulates interfacial charge distribution with electrons transferring from CoS2to MoS2. Consequently, a local electrophilic region is formed near the CoS2side, which enables effective N2absorption. On the other hand, the nucleophilic area formed near the MoS2side is in favor of breaking stable N≡N, the potential-determining step (*N2→ *N2H) which brings about a much decreased energy barrier than that on pure MoS2. As a result, this catalyst exhibits an excellent NRR performance, NH3yield and Faradaic efficiency of 54.7 μg·h–1·mg–1and 20.8%, respectively, far better than most MoS2-based catalysts.

227. Trends of the Flow-Field Deflection and Asymmetric Combustion in a 600 MWeSupercritical Down-Fired Boiler with Respect to the Furnace Arch’s Burner Span

Abstract

The asymmetric upper furnace configuration effect (mainly relied on the short upper furnace) and unreasonable burner designs (mainly related to the burner location and burner span on furnace arches) are taken as potential major factors favoring the asymmetric combustion formation in down-fired boilers. To confirm the burner span’s role in this aspect, numerical simulations on coal combustion in a 600 MWesupercritical down-fired boiler that suffered from severe flow-field deflection and asymmetric combustion were carried out at three burner span settings (i.e., CS= 0.387, 0.441, and 0.495), plus full-load industrial-size measurements at the boiler’s design setup CS= 0.441. The boiler’s design setup shows a badly asymmetric combustion performance with poor burnout and high NOxemissions, corresponding to its severely deflected gas/particle flow field. Shortening the burner span to CS= 0.387 greatly improves the flow-field deflection and asymmetric combustion, resulting in a burnout increase and NOxreduction. In contrast, expanding the burner span to CS= 0.495 aggravates asymmetric combustion to gain a worsened furnace performance, with burnout loss and NOxemissions increased. These changes thus confirm the burner span as a major factor favoring asymmetric combustion. With a short upper furnace equipped to aggravate the asymmetric upper furnace configuration effect, a relatively smaller burner span such as CS= 0.387 should be used for alleviating the flow-field deflection and asymmetric combustion if a high air-box pressure can be allowed in long-term operations.

241. Joint adjustment for large-area, multi-source vertical data: method, validation and application

Abstract

In order to reveal the residual distribution pattern and obtain a wide range of high-accurate vertical movement field, we systematically analyzed the joint geodetic adjustment with vertical rate parameters (denoted as joint adjustment) issues based on the simulated and actual multi-source vertical data. First of all, 1000 sets of simulated leveling data containing rand noise were constructed and processed. The corresponding adjustment results show that network shape and observation interval are two main factors affecting the reliability of the vertical rates. Particularly, vertical rates of the small loops, internal points and loops with longer intervals are prior to those of large loops, edge points and loops with short intervals, respectively. Subsequently, we developed a Helmert adjustment program, which can jointly process leveling data and space geodetic data. Compared with the single leveling data adjustment (SLDA), the joint adjustment results of leveling data and 500 geodetic observations (including 2–4 mm/yr errors) demonstrate that the Helmert adjustment can reduce the residual distribution range by roughly 46%. Finally, both SLDA and Helmert methods are applied to actual survey data in eastern China. We find that the error of the latter approach is decreased by about 48% compared with the former. In summary, the Helmert adjustment method can significantly improve the reliability and accuracy of vertical movement in large area.

242. Clinical diagnostic performance of a fully automated TSI immunoassay vs. that of an automated anti-TSHR immunoassay for Graves’ disease: a Chinese multicenter study

Abstract

Background: Both thyroid-stimulating immunoglobulins immunoassay (TSI IA) and thyrotrophin receptor antibody immunoassay (TRAb IA) are commonly used for the diagnosis of Graves’ disease (GD). The aim of the present study was to compare the clinical diagnostic performance of these two methods. Methods: Sera were obtained from 1103 subjects presenting a variety of clinical conditions from three centers: 100 subjects with untreated GD, 200 with treated GD, 62 with autoimmune thyroid disease(AIT), 216 with other thyroid diseases (OTHER-T), 214 with non-thyroid autoimmune diseases (NTAD), 191 with other diseases (OD), and 120 healthy subjects (HS). Both TSI and TRAb IAs were performed for all 1013 serum samples. Bioassay was performed for 86 samples whose TSI results were inconsistent the TRAb assay results. Results: Comparing untreated GD patients with the control groups (AIT, NTAD, OTHER-T, OD, and HS) resulted in an area under the curve (AUC) of 0.992 for the TSI IA and 0.989 for the TRAb IA with no statistically significant difference observed between these AUC values (P?=?0.2733). The best TSI CDP (clinical decision point) value was 0.42?IU/L. The differences in sensitivity (100% vs. 95%, P?=?0.7991) and specificity (97.1% vs. 97.6%, P?=?0.9426) between the TSI and TRAb IA were not statistically significant. TSI IA had a higher agreement with the TSI bioassay than TRAb IA. Conclusion: The clinical diagnostic performance of the TSI IA for diagnosing Graves’ disease was very similar to that of the TRAb IA. TSI IA can be used to diagnose GD in the Chinese.

Abstract

Trace element levels are associated with the incidence of osteoporotic fractures, but related mechanisms remain unknown. Trace elements may interfere with growth, development and maintenance of bones. Therefore, we investigated whether plasma trace element levels are associated with bone mineral density in elderly males in Beijing. After epidemiologically investigating 91 elderly males with age ranging from 50 years to 80 years, we obtained a total of 30 healthy (group 1), 31 osteopoenic (group 2) and 30 osteoporotic (group 3) subjects. Blood was collected, and serum concentrations of trace elements were detected. Elderly males in the three groups were carefully matched in terms of body mass index. Iron, manganese, zinc, copper, selenium, cadmium and lead were analysed by inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. Bone mineral density (BMD) was measured by QDR-2000 dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. Correlation between BMD and serum element contents was analysed using SPSS16.0. Abstract

Some crustal-deformation data related to the Ms8.0 Wenchuan in 2008, was described and a model that is capable of explaining the observed deformation features is presented. The data include: pre-earthquake uplift in an area south of the epicenter obtained by repeated-leveling measurements; pre-earthquake horizontal deformation by GPS observation during two periods in Sichuan-Yunnan area; vertical deformation along a short cross-fault leveling line in the epicenter area; and co-seismic near-field vertical and horizontal crustal-movement data by GPS. The model is basically “elastic-rebound”, but involves a zone between two local faults that was squeezed out at the time of earthquake.

Abstract

There exists many kinds of calculation models of plane and spherical strain fields, but the results of these models are different. The representative models was analyzed, and got some useful conclusions, in which some models are unbiased, some have deviations that can be corrected, some can only be used to compute strain in a uniform medium and can not be extended, and some can be used in the calculation and analysis of continuous strain field as well. Meanwhile, the correction relationship for spherical difference movement (displacement) computed from strain results was given, and the meaning of the non – differential term in spherical strain model was demonstrated.
